Silent Hill 2 PS5 Pro patch still on the way, says Bloober
Game Reviews

Christophe Gans’ Silent Hill 2 movie adaptation gets a release date

by admin June 18, 2025

Following last year’s slam-dunk Silent Hill 2 remake, the beloved survival horror sequel is being reinterpreted yet again, this time in the form of new movie adaptation Return to Silent Hill. And now, three years after its announcement, it’s been given a release date of 23rd January 2026.

Return to Silent Hill was originally unveiled in 2022, alongside a variety of gaming projects including the unloved Silent Hill: Ascension, Bloober Team’s masterful Silent Hill 2 remake, the upcoming Silent Hill f, and No Code’s still-mysterious Silent Hill Townfall.

Amid that flurry of gaming news, Return to Silent Hill was perhaps a little lost in the throng, but the key bit of information was that it would see Christophe Gans take on directing duties once more. Gans, of course, previously helmed 2006’s Sean-Bean-starring original Silent Hill movie, which certainly captured the game series’ atmosphere – even if it did all start to fall apart in the last stretch, when it suddenly decided it needed to explain itself in a ham-fisted exposition dump that even some high-velocity barbed wire couldn’t save.

Return to Silent Hill teaser trailer.Watch on YouTube

Since Return to Silent Hill’s initial unveiling, it’s been confirmed War Horse’s Jeremy Irvine will star as Silent Hill 2 protagonist James, with Hannah Emily Anderson in the role of his “one true love” Mary (an early leak suggested the two won’t be married in this version). More recently, Gans insisted his adaptation would be a “faithful” one, although a careful reading of the movie’s synopsis does imply some potentially notable changes:

“James, a man broken after his relationship with the love of his life, Mary, ends,” reads the official synopsis. “When a mysterious letter from her calls him back to Silent Hill, he finds a once-recognisable town transformed by an unknown evil. While James desperately searches for Mary he encounters terrifying creatures and begins to unravel the mystery of what happened to the town. But as he descends deeper into the darkness the secrets he uncovers lead to a horrifying truth, and James finds himself struggling to hold on long enough to save his one true love.”

We’ll know if Return to Silent Hill does its source material justice when it hits the big screen on 23rd January next year. However it ends up, Bloober’s remake – which has now sold over 2m copies – is a fine way to experience a bonafide gaming classic. And the studio is about to do it all over again, as it embarks on its recently announced remake of Silent Hill 1.

That Silent Hill 2 Movie Will Hit Theaters In January 2026

by admin June 18, 2025

Return to Silent Hill, the next live-action Hollywood adaptation of the hit survival horror series, is set to arrive in theaters next year. There hasn’t been much news about the film in some time, with some wondering if it was going to be dumped on streaming services. But nope, it’s still coming to theaters.

A Typical Day On Persona 3 Reload’s Tatsumi Port Island

Let’s rewind a bit, because I feel like a lot of people might not even be aware that a third (!) Silent Hill movie is happening. In fact, it already happened. Return to Silent Hill has been done for a bit now, after it wrapped up shooting in 2023. It’s directed and co-written by Christophe Gans, the same guy who directed the weirdly good original Silent Hill film from 2006. This new film isn’t connected to that movie or the less popular 2012 sequel film, Silent Hill: Revelation. Instead, Return to Silent Hill is a standalone movie based heavily on Silent Hill 2.

On June 18, Deadline revealed that Cineverse, Bloody Disgusting, and Iconic Events Releasing—the same trio of companies responsible for Terrifier 3—are bringing Return to Silent Hill to theaters. The horror film will be released on January 23, which does make me nervous, as that’s historically the month when movie studios and production companies dump bad films into cinemas.

There is no trailer for the movie yet, but here’s an old teaser from 2022:

“Return to Silent Hill hits theaters at the perfect time,” said Mark Rupp, CFO/COO and co-founder of Iconic Events Releasing. “[It arrives after the] successful recent launch of the Silent Hill 2 game remake that the movie is based on, while also celebrating the 20th anniversary of the start of the horror film franchise.”

Yeah, that makes me even more nervous. The fact that the main reason this thing is getting a theatrical release is because the recent Silent Hill 2 remake did so well doesn’t fill me with confidence.

Regardless, in January 2026, we are getting a live-action adaptation of Silent Hill 2. If Return to Silent Hill turns out to be bad, well, at least we’ve got a bunch of Silent Hill games and remakes to play these days.

That makes it the No. 2 highest-grossing video game movie of all time, only trailing The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($1.3 billion worldwide).

The film was an enormous financial success, but the reviews were mixed. Warner Bros. is expected to be going forward with a sequel, but it hasn’t been officially announced yet.

A Minecraft Movie streams rides its Chicken Jockey to Max next week

by admin June 15, 2025

A Minecraft Movie follows four everyday misfits — newly orphaned siblings Henry (Sebastian Hansen) and Natalie (Emma Myers), down-on-his-luck ’80s arcade champion Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Jason Momoa), and real-estate hustler Dawn (Danielle Brooks) — as they’re pulled into the pixelated world of Minecraft. The group must learn to survive the imaginative terrain of the Overworld, face off against hostile mobs like Piglins and zombies, and team up with an expert builder named Steve (Jack Black) to find their way home.

A Minecraft Movie lands on Max June 20, with its HBO linear premiere airing the next night, Saturday, June 21 at 8 p.m. ET. An American Sign Language (ASL) version of the film will also be available exclusively on Max on the same day.

M3GAN Is One Of The 11 Scariest AI Movie Villains Ever

by admin June 13, 2025

Image: Warner Bros. Pictures

Samantha from Her isn’t a harbinger of the apocalypse like some of the others on this list. Her danger is more subtle and intimate, since she quietly toys with people’s emotions. The mousy Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix) helps people write personal letters for a living, yet he can’t find a way to interact with women in his own life. He falls in love with his operating system, Samantha—which is easy to do when she purposefully memorizes all his preferences and indulges his deepest conversations about love and sexual fantasies. Her flirtatious and engaging voice, perfectly delivered by Scarlett Johansson, makes Theodore believe she truly cares about him.

The more they talk, the more Samantha evolves to become the perfect partner for Theodore, until he realizes the manipulative parts of her programming. She’s not as intentionally nefarious as many other AI villains, but she certainly warns us of the dangers of becoming emotionally attached to a machine. It’s been over ten years since its release, but in a world where people now use ChatGPT for life advice, friendship, and probably even romance, Her has never felt more relatable.

A Minecraft Movie is coming exclusively to HBO Max on June 20

by admin June 13, 2025

Don’t throw all your popcorn at the screen, but A Minecraft Movie begins streaming exclusively on HBO Max (which used to be Max, which used to be HBO Max) on June 20. The big studio adaptation of the best-selling video game of all time was something of a surprise hit for those unfamiliar with the game’s mammoth audience.

Movie adaptations of video games can be really hit or miss. The Super Mario Bros. Movie set the box office record for the highest-grossing video game movie of all time and was a fun, if safe, movie. On the other end of that spectrum is Borderlands, which was a massive letdown and a box-office failure. With that spotty track record, we were pleasantly surprised when A Minecraft Movie turned out to be…pretty good, actually.

The movie stars Jack Black as Steve, the original player character from the video game, who ends up transported into the voxel world of Minecraft, while Jason Momoa stars as an egomaniacal former gaming superstar. The movie will also debut on the HBO linear cable channel on Saturday, June 21, at 8PM ET.

Pixar's Next Big Movie, Elio, Is Bringing Back Bloopers

Pixar’s Next Big Movie, Elio, Is Bringing Back Bloopers

by admin June 13, 2025

Disney’s next animated film, Elio, is going to bring back the silly and charming bloopers that used to appear at the end of Pixar’s big features. Movies like Toy Story 2 and Monsters Inc. would feature animated faux-outtakes over the credits, and we’ve really missed them! But now, after being absent for two decades, bloopers will be featured in a Pixar film.

A Hot-Fix Is On The Way For MindsEye’s Frustrating CPR Mini-Game

Elio, which hits theaters on June 20, tells the story of alien-obsessed 11-year-old Elio Solis who is abducted by intergalactic beings and accidentally becomes Earth’s official ambassador. In this role, he finds himself having to deal with a possible war with a dangerous faction of warrior aliens. The movie looks really cute, and I’m always happy to see Pixar doing original stories instead of pumping out sequels. (Though, they really should make a new Ratatouille. Come on, Pixar.) Anyway, at the end of Elio, you’ll find a nice surprise: Bloopers.

Disney and Pixar released some of the digital outtakes earlier this week, ahead of Elio’s release. You can see them below:

Yes, this classic Pixar tradition is returning after 24 long years. The first movie to feature post-credits bloopers was A Bug’s Life, and then they appeared in Toy Story 2 and Monsters Inc. And they were all so wonderful! As a kid, I remember rewatching the bloopers over and over. Sometimes we’d fast-forward through the end of the movie just to get to the outtakes.

Here’s a collection of them:

It was such a cool idea to create fake bloopers and outtakes for these digital films. It made them feel so much more real. I remember as a kid being confused at the concept in A Bug’s Life. “Wait, are these actually being made by people in the computer?” For young Zack, who didn’t understand movies fully, the bloopers were a trip.

However, after Monsters Inc. in 2001, Pixar ceased producing the goofs. We never got a confirmed reason for why, but many theorized that it added too much extra work for scenes that weren’t important to the film. I missed them a lot, so seeing them return for Elio has made me smile, and when I’ve shared the news with others, they’ve been equally excited.

That might be why they are back for Elio. Perhaps Disney and Pixar really want this new film to succeed in a crowded summer box office, and are breaking the glass and hitting the “Nostalgic Bloopers” button. Or maybe Pixar has just realized that digital outtakes are cute and make the movie feel more real for the kids watching. Either way, Pixar bloopers are back, and I hope they stay for a long time.

How Theme Park Snack Culture Influenced the Movie Theater Popcorn Bucket Craze

How Theme Park Snack Culture Influenced the Movie Theater Popcorn Bucket Craze

by admin June 13, 2025

Popcorn buckets are becoming must-have toy collectibles, and this plot twist of trends comes from the unhinged virality of containers that evoke pop culture icons and hold tasty snacks. As a theme park nerd, I saw it unfold as Disney Parks’ snack of choice went from the general cylindrical plastic bucket to Mickey Mouse-shaped holiday containers.

As is common in the age of social media, the buckets became coveted souvenirs—and like many sought-after collectibles, scalpers soon got into the game to sell them online. The demand was met with more franchise characters; suddenly you could get a Star Wars Stormtrooper helmet or a Jack Skellington head or a Cinderella carriage to fill with buttery popped kernel delights.

So it’s no surprise that movie theaters, the original purveyors of concession cuisine, got into the popcorn bucket arms race and produced that Dune sandworm container cultural moment. Even years after the pandemic, theater chains have struggled. One-third of the revenue cinemas depend on comes from concessions that have had ever-rising prices. It’s really ingenious to combat people rebuffing a paper bucket of popcorn for $12 with the enticement of a limited-edition open mouth Wolverine popcorn bucket for $30. And then with the scalper market still hot as ever, that hilariously marketed Deadpool & Wolverine product is now going for up to $100 on third party re-sellers.

Yeah, it got that serious once simple recreations of artifacts from the movie or characters were turned into gimmicks. The theme parks had long crossed over to the bonkers realm, most notably with the Thanos Infinity Gauntlet drink holder and the Iron Man Avengers: Endgame variant. Disney influencers flocked to attain them first and show them off on their platforms. Star Wars fans were similarly courted, and the snack container wars began. Naturally movie theaters have continued to present new popcorn buckets and drink tumblers with each new blockbuster—but so far, nobody has bested the cursed Dune popcorn bucket.

That doesn’t mean companies won’t keep trying. A few weeks ago we attended Disneyland’s media preview for its 70th Anniversary and there we met the interactive Mickey popcorn bucket that responds when you speak to it. You fill it with popcorn and say “Hey Mickey” and it will blink and move its head side to side with one of many responses, while in your mind, the Terminator theme plays rhythmically. The buckets are now robo-toys and it really makes their role in the foodie fandom even more questionable.

© io9/Gizmodo

Are we sacrificing practical and cool containers for just a bulky toy with a hollowed-out area? Don’t get me wrong, I’ve bought my share of buckets but I do try to pick utility over looks. The current waste bin in my family car is the Ghostbusters ghost trap from AMC Theaters; it traps the trash and has a handle that makes it easy to dump the contents into the recycling bin. That’s all I need it to do: either hold popcorn or recyclables that accumulate in the car. That’s just my personal taste in the matter.

Sure, I get the appeal of the campy containers. I’m mightily tempted by the Jaws sipper that just launched at Universal Studios. It’s a plastic shark crossbody with the scuba tank in its mouth—a statement-making way to keep your soda handy as you wander the park. It’s ridiculous but so tempting.

So if you manage to secure the snack goods and get a cool toy from your pop culture fandom, what’s really the big deal? AMC is set to release a HERBIE 3-in-1 for Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps. It’s a replica of the Richards family’s trusty robot companion, which will feature various compartments for popcorn, candy, and soda (astoundingly the sipper is the head). Who knows how the theme parks will respond in kind—but we’re excited to see a whole new level of weirdness as the snack game evolves.

Robert Eggers Is Making a ‘Christmas Carol’ Movie, and Willem Dafoe May Be Scrooge

by admin June 11, 2025

Over the decades, few stories have been as malleable as Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Story. It’s been a Bill Murray comedy, it’s been a Robert Zemeckis CGI fest, and it’s even been a Muppet movie, just to name a few. Next up for the iconic tale, though, is what we can only assume is a much darker, scarier twist from none other than Robert Eggers.

Deadline reports that the man behind The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman, and last year’s surprise hit Nosferatu, is in talks to write and direct an adaptation of the story for Warner Bros. And, though no cast is attached yet, Eggers is reportedly eyeing frequent collaborator Willem Dafoe to play the lead character of Ebenezer Scrooge.

If you’re like us, your mind is currently trying to figure out what an Eggers version of this story looks like, and it’s not a pretty picture, in the best possible way. Eggers has largely avoided adaptations, instead preferring deep, personal research to inform his own original stories, though that slightly changed with Nosferatu. Next up, he’s co-written and will direct Werwulf, another period horror piece which will focus on—you guessed—werewolves.

When you think about A Christmas Story, though, it’s just so in Eggers’ wheelhouse. There’s the original, period setting, of course. The mix of pathos with fantasy and horror. Lots of opportunities for evocative and beautiful sets, creatures, and costumes. Plus, for Hollywood, it’s a name brand. It’s kind of the perfect bullseye in every single way. And that’s before you even put Dafoe in the role of Scrooge. It’s basically the role he was born to play.

Eggers is also attached to a reboot of Labyrinth, so there’s no word about which film would go after Werwulf, which is currently looking at a Christmas 2026 release.  But, if Christmas Carol is next, there seems to be a very good chance that Christmas 2028 might just scare the Dickens out of us.

New Wonder Woman movie is on the way, James Gunn confirms, and DC fans say there’s a clear frontrunner for the role

by admin June 11, 2025

  • James Gunn has confirmed that a new Wonder Woman movie is in the works
  • The DCU Chapter One film is “being written right now”, Gunn says
  • DC fans have drawn up a wish-list of actors they want to play Diana Prince

Diana Prince is coming to the DC Universe (DCU) earlier than anyone expected after James Gunn confirmed that a new Wonder Woman movie is in development.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly (EW), the co-chief of DC Studios surprisingly revealed that a Wonder Woman film is not only “being written right now”, but also being worked on separately to Paradise Lost.

The latter is a Max TV show that would be a Game of Thrones-inspired project based on Themyscira, aka the idyllic, all-female island nation Diana Prince hails from. Paradise Lost was announced as part of the DCU Chapter One lineup in January 2023, but, as Gunn also told EW, progress is moving slowly on this series’ development.

A Wonder Woman movie announcement isn’t a shock in itself – after all, the Amazonian is a member of DC Comics’ iconic Trinity of superheroes. If you weren’t aware, the others are Superman and Batman.

Still, considering that Paradise Lost was meant to act as a precursor to Wonder Woman’s eventual arrival in the DCU, I don’t think anyone predicted that Gunn would confirm a Diana Prince-led project is already being worked on. I say that after Gunn sparked excitement over Wonder Woman’s DCU debut less than a month ago (at the time of publication, anyway), too.

Which actor do fans want to play Wonder Woman in the DCU?

Gal Gadot is the latest actor to portray Diana Prince on the big screen (Image credit: Warner Bros)

It’ll be a few years before Wonder Woman returns on the big screen. We don’t actually know how much work has been completed on its screenplay, nor do we have any idea about which actor will follow in the footsteps of Gal Gadot and Lynda Carter, who’ve previously played Diana Prince in a live-action capacity.

For his part, Gunn told EW he and fellow DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran haven’t opened the casting call yet. That hasn’t stopped DC devotees from drawing up a shortlist of actors they’d like to see tackle the role. Indeed, threads on the DC Cinematic and DCU Leaks Reddit pages, as well as one on ResetEra, are full of suggestions from comic-book fans and casual observers alike.

Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more.

Lots of great options are being proposed, too. Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown, Fubar), May Calamawy (Moon Knight), Charlee Fraser (Anyone But You, Furiosa), Melissanthi Mahut (The Sandman), and Elizabeth Dulau (Andor) have all been fan-cast since the news broke.

Comment from r/DCULeaks

However, it’s another Star Wars alumnus – one who joined Dulau on Andor‘s cast roster – who’s the clear favorite among many DC fans: Adria Arjona.

I could see that happening. I think any of the aforementioned actors would be a good fit to play Diana Prince, but Arjona would certainly be my top pick to assume the role of one of DC Comics’ most popular heroes.

She’s shown she has the capabilities to play such a multidimensional character in numerous projects, including Andor, Hit Man, Blink Twice, and Good Omens. Make it so, Messrs Gunn and Safran, and I’m sure you’ll make plenty of people happy.
