The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Hits Theaters In April

by admin September 15, 2025

Nintendo has announced The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie that hit theaters in 2023, and it’s coming to the silver screen in April and will also be made by Illumination.

Shigeru Miyamoto opened today’s Nintendo Direct with a look at Super Mario Bros. for its 40th anniversary, and he revealed The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be the main attraction of the celebration. Alongside this news, we learned that Brian Taylor will be returning to compose the score, and that various actors, including Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Charlie Day, Keegan-Michael Key, and Kevin Michael Richardson, are returning to play Mario, Princess Peach, Bowser, Luigi, Toad, and Kamek, respectively.

We didn’t receive any new casting updates, but considering this movie is taking Mario to space, we’ll likely be hear about casting for characters like Rosalina and a Luma, perhaps.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hits theaters in April 2026.

In the meantime, read Game Informer’s review of The Super Mario Bros. movie, and then read Game Informer’s interview with Shigeru Miyamoto and Koji Kondo about the film.

The Latest ‘Demon Slayer’ Movie is Another Record-Breaking Hit

by admin September 14, 2025

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle came to the United States this weekend, and it’s doing numbers well ahead of projections.

Per the Hollywood Reporter, the film—the first of a trilogy meant to bring the shonen fantasy series to a close—made an estimated $70 million domestic, double the $35-40 million predicted by analysts. But Sony’s been aggressive with marketing it, not to mention the anime itself is pretty popular on its own. It’s the biggest opening ever for an anime film in North America, the biggest-ever animated debut for a September film, and with an additional $30 million from international audiences, brings Infinity’s box office to an estimated $468 million worldwide.

Being a money maker isn’t new for Demon Slayer: in 2022, Sony released the film adaptation of the Mugen Train arc, which was the most succssful opening for a foreign film at the time. While it wasn’t the top movie that weekend, it helped reinvigorate U.S. theaters in the aftermath of the early COVID-19 pandemic and was 2020’s highest-grossing film.

Meanwhile, The Conjuring: Last Rites from September 5 fell by 69% domestically and came in behind Infinity Castle. With a new domestic total of $131.1 million and an extra $60.5 million overseas, its latest total is $332.9 million. It’s now the second highes-grossing movie in the franchise behind the first Nun movie ($366 million) and ahead of The Conjuring 2 ($322.8 million).

As for The Long Walk, the weekend’s other big genre release, it made an estimated $11.5 million domestic. Based on Stephen King’s 1979 novel, the Francis Lawrence-directed film stars Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, and Mark Hamill, and has had eavy marketing in recent weeks. Compared to other adaptations of King’s work, that domestic open is below The Monkey and Doctor Sleep, according to Deadline. But at time of writing, its international numbers aren’t out, and we’ll update when they’re disclosed.

Update (9/13/2025 @ 4:23 PM ET): This story has been updated with more recent numbers for Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle.

‘Scary Movie 6’ Will Make Everyone the Butt of The Joke

by admin September 14, 2025

Marlon Wayans has been talking up what’s in store for Scary Movie 6, and according to him, the series’ trademark crass humor will target any and everyone.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, he hyped up the upcoming horror-comedy flick as a “no holds barred and equal opportunity offender. We just want to make everybody laugh, and we don’t care if you’re sensitive. Even sensitive people need to laugh at themselves.” While skewering well-known movies like The Exorcist and War of the Worlds, earlier installments had jokes you probably felt bad about laughing at back then (if you did laugh). This is, after all, how the Wayans got popular back in the day, something he noted by highlighting White Chicks making fun of “Black people, white people, [and] Hispanic people. That’s just what we do.”

If that has your hackles raised, don’t worry: Wayans insisted it’s all the jabs have been done with love, and hoped the jokes in Scary Movie 6 reflect how comedy has evolved in the time since the movies first came out, and acknowledged not every joke is going to totally land. Still, he argued “you have to acknowledge how comedy has changed. Not just horror, but films have changed, the audience has changed, the world has shifted,” he explains. “I think the way to do that is to make the generational gap part of the conversation. […] Just know that we’re not just laughing at you, you get the chance to laugh at others.”

Mainstream goofy comedies got a resurgence with the success of The Naked Gun back in August, and Wayans is hopeful Scary Movie 6 can continue that trend while working as “a great conversation piece that [lets us] sit down and laugh together, over three generations of people who haven’t had great comedy in a long time.”

Scary Movie 6 hits theaters on June 12, 2026.

Here’s your first look at the Mario movie sequel

by admin September 13, 2025

As part of it latest Direct showcase, Nintendo has had a bit of a Mario moment to celebrate the iconic plumber’s 40th anniversary. Alongside other bits of moustache-adjacent news we got a very first look at the second Mario movie, officially titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Animation studio Illumination’s breezy but entertaining first movie adaptation – officially (and unimaginatively) titled The Super Mario Bros. Movie – proved to be an huge hit when it released in 2023, grossing over $1bn world-wide. So a sequel was almost inevitable.

To date, details on the follow-up have been limited, although Toad voice actor Keegan-Michael Key did last year tease it would feature an “intriguing” setting alongside “old favourite” characters and “really deep cuts”. Then, this May, it looked like NBCUniversal had inadvertently revealed the sequel’s title: Super Mario World.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie trailer.Watch on YouTube

That, it turns out, was wrong. Instead, it’s called The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and we got a very first trailer as part of Nintendo’s latest Direct. Cue the internet leaning in for careful scrutiny in a bid to reveal its many Mario-themed secrets.

The Mario movie sequel, as previously confirmed by Nintendo, releases on 3rd April 2026 in the US, with a Japanese release scheduled for 24th April. Expect it to arrive for most other territories somewhere in-between.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.

The BioShock movie is still in the works, but scheduling conflicts mean it likely can’t come out before 2027, maybe even later

by admin September 13, 2025

The screen adaptation of BioShock is still in the works at Netflix, but it sounds like we’re going to have a long wait before its release date. The delay is due to director Francis Lawrence’s busy schedule, according to an interview with The Direct. Producer Roy Lee didn’t reveal much about the film, but hinted at a potentially lengthy wait:

“Well, ‘The Long Walk’ became a reality because ‘BioShock’ was delayed for a little bit where we had to do some more script work. And so as the script work is being done, we shot ‘The Long Walk,’ and [Francis Lawrence] was already committed to doing the next ‘Hunger Games’ movie. And so it’s just waiting for him whenever the ‘Hunger Games’ is completed, and the script is just being worked on right now.”

Lee was referring to Sunrise on the Reaping, a Hunger Games prequel focusing on Haymitch Abernathy’s Games. It began filming this summer and is set to release on November 20, 2026. Francis Lawrence directed all four of the previous Hunger Games films, so it’s no surprise he returned for this one. Unfortunately for BioShock fans, that means Lawrence has his hands full for the time being.

Filming for a movie like Sunrise on the Reaping can take several months, followed by months of post-production work afterward. As the director, Lawrence will be involved in every step of the creative process through the film’s final edit. So, it’s possible he might not be able to return to BioShock until late next year.

Based on Roy Lee’s comments to The Direct, it sounds like the BioShock movie has a script ready for Francis Lawrence to look at, but there’s still a mountain of work to be done, from casting to filming to editing.

It’s likely the BioShock movie won’t arrive on Netflix for at least a couple more years. However, we also know from Lee’s interview that it sounds like the film will be based on the first BioShock game, so at least the long wait will probably mean we get to see the filmmakers’ take on Rapture.

Nintendo Drops Surprise Trailer for New ‘Super Mario Galaxy Movie’

by admin September 12, 2025

Mario is returning to the big screen. Following the massive success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which made more than $1.3 billion worldwide in 2023, animation studio Illumination and Nintendo are releasing a sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, in April 2026. Nintendo dropped a teaser trailer during its Direct presentation on Friday.

The teaser doesn’t offer much about the movie, which takes its name from the 2007 platformer. Mario dozes in a field before title credits appear, that’s about it. But the trailer still signifies that Nintendo will continue to churn out films aimed at turning Mario into a megafranchise.

It’s no coincidence that the trailer and accompanying announcement come just one day before the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. video game. In the four decades since that game’s release, Mario—and Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, and other assorted characters—have become cultural icons.

In 1993, Super Mario Bros. became one of the earliest videogame film adaptations. It was panned by critics and fans, but in the years since, games ranging from Mortal Kombat to Tomb Raider have been turned into movies. Now, as superhero fatigue sets in and ’90s nostalgia peaks, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which will include nods to the entire Mario series, stands poised to continue Mario’s domination.

Considered the most successful video game adaptation ever made, The Super Mario Bros. Movie was the second highest-grossing movie of 2023, second only to Barbie. The original cast, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, and Jack Black as Bowser, will return for the sequel.

Alongside the news, Nintendo also announced it will release remastered versions of Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel on October 2.

Mario Movie 2 Title Leaks Point To Super Mario Galaxy And Odyssey

by admin September 11, 2025

The next Mario Bros. movie is out April 2026 and it still doesn’t have an official title. Unofficially, however, the titles has seemingly leaked thanks to recently registered domain names, and all signs point to a riff on Super Mario Galaxy.

Per Wario64, the domain name supermariogalaxy.movie was registered by NBCUniversal earlier this month, followed by supermariogalaxy-lefilm.com and supermariogalaxy-lapelicula.com on September 10. They redirect to Universal’s homepage and match up with the conventions used for the domains for the original Super Mario Bros. movie.

https://t.co/EHknBYD082 (Super Mario Galaxy film) domain also registered by NBC Universal on Sept 3rd.

For the first movie, Universal used https://t.co/kT7oaJCDzS for the movie’s website (now points to VOD/Disc links since it’s been out for years) https://t.co/q0zVL2LsAI pic.twitter.com/2uvjPnIwJQ

— Wario64 (@Wario64) September 11, 2025

This backs up a leak from months ago when a photo of labels featuring the title The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Old Spice deodorant started making the rounds online. It wasn’t clear at the time if it was an elaborate fake or not, though the renders showing Yoshi and Luigi looked authentic. The latest information about the domain names suggests it was legit.

“Can’t believe that the Mario movie sequence was leaked by an Old Spice merch, of all things,” the YouTube account NintendoFan posted on X. “What a crazy timeline! I loved Yoshi’s look on that little can. Now it’s just a matter of waiting to see it in 4K.”

The Super Mario Bros. Movie ended with Bowser defeated and Mario and Luigi returning to their lives in Brooklyn while a post-credits sequent revealed a hatching Yoshi egg somewhere in the sewers. There weren’t any other strong leads on where the second movie would take things, but the apparent title suggests at the very least the gang is headed into space. Maybe to try and find a home for Yoshi?

2007’s Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii sees the plumber hopping from planet to planet in order to free magical stars for Rosalina’s ship, called the Comet Observatory, which got messed up by Bowser. The game features a star character, Lumalee, who already appeared in the first movie. At the same time, The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a reimagining of the series lore more than a remix of it, so The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will likely have its own twist on the elements of the game, if it borrows directly from them at all.

One last thing worth noting is that the Old Spice art showed a Tostarenan from Super Mario Odyssey hanging behind Luigi. So whatever Nintendo and Minions studio Illumination Entertainment are planning, it’s likely much bigger than any one Mario game. The second movie hits theaters on April 3, 2026.

Don’t expect that Netflix BioShock movie any time soon – three years on it still doesn’t have a finished script

by admin September 11, 2025

Three years after Netflix announced it was turning Irrational Games’ acclaimed underwater shooter BioShock into a live-action film, its producer has suggested its still some way off, confirming that work continues on its script.

The streaming service first publicly discussed a BioShock movie back in February 2022, when it was accompanied by grandiose talk of developing a whole cinematic universe around the BioShock games. After a lengthy silence, producer Roy Lee last year confirmed plans had changed and that budget cuts at Netflix meant it would now be a “much smaller” film told from a “more personal point of view, as opposed to a grander, big project.”

Another year on, and Lee is chattering again, this time offering an update on the project’s progress in conversation with The Direct. As to why it’s taking so long, he explained in part that’s down to the BioShock movie having been delayed a “little bit” so the team could do “some more script work”. Amid all this, director Francis Lawrence has been busy with the movie adaptation of Stephen King’s The Long Walk, and he’ll remain occupied helming the upcoming The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. “So it’s just waiting for him whenever the Hunger Games is completed,” Lee added.

Additionally, Lee confirmed the BioShock movie’s script is still “being worked on right now”. But the hope seems to be it’ll be ready by the time Sunrise on the Reaping is done. As to what the movie will focus on, Lee remains cagey, saying, “Netflix wants us to keep everything under wraps”. He did, however, reveal it’ll definitely be based on Irrational’s first BioShock game.

Netflix isn’t the first company to attempt a BioShock movie. Back in 2008, Universal announced its own adaptation with Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski onboard – but it never came to fruition. Explaining the project’s demise in 2013, BioShock creator Ken Levine revealed publisher 2K had given him the option to cancel it after Verbinski’s departure – and so he did.

A fourth BioSchock game, originally announced in 2019, is currently in the works at developer Cloud Chamber, but 2K recently confirmed it was “reducing the size of the development team” as it looks to “rework certain aspects” of the purportedly troubled project.

Upcoming Bioshock Movie Adaptation Based On The First Game

by admin September 10, 2025

Now that the film and TV industries have finally cracked the code to making decent, sometimes great, live-action adaptations of video games, there’s actually good reason to pay attention to the developments of these works. To be excited about them, even. One of the latest games to get the treatment is none other than Xbox 360-era darling BioShock. The first one (not Infinite, thank god).

As reported by The Direct, producer Roy Lee (A Minecraft Movie, Weapons, The Long Walk) said that while everything else about the movie must be kept secret, “it’s definitely going to be based on the first BioShock game.” The deep sea adaptation hit a snag after some necessary script work, but it looks like it’s on track; now it just awaits director Francis Lawrence (Constantine, The Hunger Games, The Long Walk) who first has to wrap work on The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

While I’ve been something of a hater of the non-stop barrage of live-action video game adaptations, I find the idea of bringing the first BioShock “to life” as a big-budget movie a neat proposition. Sure, the story is the most obvious expression of why Atlas Shrugged’s themes are stupid, but the setting, the underwater city of Rapture, was a real treat to explore, and seeing it reproduced on the big screen should be a treat.

As a thematic device, Rapture is a pretty straightforward tool for skewering libertarian-minded politics, but as a setting, it’s dreamy and atmospheric, with tremendous potential for some seriously cool set and prop design. And if Francis Lawrence’s work on 2007’s I Am Legend is anything to go by, the man knows how to work well with evocative settings. Who knows, maybe we’ll take some better lessons away from this trip down to the doomed ocean floor city than we did the first time.

Netflix has just dropped a shocking new movie you need to stream after Unknown Number for one simple reason

by admin September 9, 2025

Let’s face it: Unknown Number might just be one of the most memorable Netflix documentaries of all time. When Lauryn and her boyfriend Oliver started getting texts from anonymous numbers that quickly became explicitly threatening, they’d never expected the culprit to be Lauryn’s mom, Kendra. My jaw is still on the floor after the perfectly executed twist two-thirds of the way through the new movie.

Frankly, I’ve been looking for the same documentary-binging high ever since. I didn’t expect to get it so soon, but out of everything new on Netflix in September 2025, another new movie released today (September 8) just might do the trick. In fact, I was already seated purely after reading the synopsis.

Behold: Stolen: Heist of the Century. If you think we’re getting the same whodunnit in the form of Unknown Number’s reveal, you’d be mistaken – if anything, Netflix is now subverting the surprise of its mystery by not only withholding who did it, but how the heist was even pulled off in the first place.

Stolen: Heist of the Century is our next big Netflix documentary movie after Unknown Number

Stolen: Heist of the Century | Official Trailer | Netflix – YouTube

Watch On

Let’s set the scene: it’s 2003 in Antwerp, Belgium. The target is the Antwerp World Diamond Centre, housing in the city’s so-called Diamond District with tons of well… you get the idea. Between February 15-16, 2003 a gang of thieves stole loose diamonds, gold, silver and other types of jewelry valued at more than $100 million, with the heist still considered one of “the greatest of the century” to this day.

In true Mission: Impossible style, here’s what our robbers had to get through. The vault that stored the precious gemstones and metals was located two floors below the main floor of the building, protected by multiple security mechanisms. These included a lock with 100 million possible combinations, infrared heat detectors, a seismic sensor, Doppler radar, and a magnetic field. The building itself had a private security force, with the district already heavily guarded and monitored.

Piece of cake, right? Well, although arrests were made in connection with the case, the stolen diamonds themselves have still never been recovered to this day. As Stolen: Heist of the Century explains, head gang honcho Leonardo Notarbartolo was arrested the Friday following the heist, because nearby garbage had connected him to the scene thanks to DNA found on a salami sandwich.

I’m not going to tell you exactly how our gang pulled off the heist – that’s literally the whole fun in watching the documentary – but what the team manages to do is nothing short of mind-blowing. It’s equally incredible that such a genius team could be so equally idiotic by leaving behind incriminating evidence.

Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more.

Even so, Stolen: Heist of the Century is easily up there as one of the best Netflix documentaries for me, and I’ve seen just about everything in its back catalog.
