Shooty Shooty Robot Invasion looks like a boomer shooter for the Newgrounds generation, and it’s out next month

by admin June 13, 2025

I feel like every time I write about shooters, I always have to add a caveat along the lines of, “I don’t really like shooters… but!” There often is a but, because occasionally one of ’em rolls around that feels like it just gets me, you know? This week, it’s a shooter that feels like it was born to be a Flash game on Newgrounds in the mid-2000s that you’ll sometimes bring up to your friends saying “man, remember that one game?” It’s called Shooty Shooty Robot Invasion, and as simple as its title is, there’s a lot going for it.

For one, it’s being made by Bubby Darkstar, the same developer behind 2021’s Subway Midnight, a game I’m always surprised by insofar that it doesn’t have as far reaching an obsessive fan base as I thought it would get. Subway Midnight is already a visually surreal delight, but Shooty Shooty Robot Invasion really looks like it’s amping up the balls to the walls zaniness factor. It apparently has over 200 NPCs to “interact and have terrible conversations with,” all of which are hand-drawn, a kind of ridiculous feat for what I think might be a dev team of not much more than one.

Watch on YouTube

You’ve also got more than 50 unique robots to take on, dozens of bosses, “a guy named ‘Donnie’ who’s a real freak” and six levels to wade through. Gameplay wise it looks like your classic boomer shooter by way of Adventure Time, plenty of regular guns to find and use, alongside a few weirder ones. This thing just looks worth playing through if you’re an animation lover alone, the colours are so vibrant and some of the designs on display feel like they were born to be turned into Twitter profile pictures (but like, when Twitter wasn’t what it is now, when it was sometimes ok and not a constant hellfire).

The trailer also clearly points out that not a drop of generative AI was used to make it, a disclaimer that I wish didn’t have to exist, but one I’m glad to see all the same. It’s not too far away from release either – currently it’s slated to be released next month, July 10th. In the meantime, you can wishlist it on Steam here.

Obsidian’s Dungeons & Dragons RPG Neverwinter Nights 2 gets an Enhanced Edition next month

by admin June 10, 2025

Neverwinter Nights 2 – the 2006 RPG from Obsidian based on D&D 3.5 – is getting an Enhanced Edition, and it’s out next month. ‘Enhanced’ in this case means nicer textures, camera improvements, Steam Deck and controller compatibility, and Steam Workshop mod integration. It’s out next month, July 15th.

Watch on YouTube

It also includes three story expansions. If that’s simply not enough Neverwinter Nights for you, there’s a bundle on Steam currently where you can buy both this and the original NN – also in Enhanced Edition form – for 10% off. This would require pre-ordering, however. It’s like I always say: if someone has to bribe you into doing something, it’s surely a brilliant idea. Here’s Steam on the matter of the affairs of the particulars of the videogame at hand:

Return to the city of Neverwinter in Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition. A dark force sweeps over Faerûn, ravaging everything in its path as though searching for something – something that you now find in your possession. As the Shard-Bearer, only you can stop the King of Shadows and his army from desecrating the land you call home. Will you save Faerûn, or fall victim to the temptation of absolute power? When your actions dictate the fate of the Realms, there are no small choices.

I bet there are some small choices, really. That’s just good writing. How do you make the big choices seem big otherwise? Please, consider your hyperbole for one second, advertising blurb.

The previous Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition was handled by Beamdog. They’ve since been gobbled up by Aspyr, themselves a gobbling appendage of chief gobblers Embracer, and it’s Aspyr on both enhancing and publishing duties this time around. Being long in the tooth by now, the Neverwinter Nights games have built up a decent modding community over the years, and the minimal amount of research I’ve done suggests that mods for the original NN worked fine with the 2018 EE. Assuming that’s the case for this new one, it means you’ll be able do things like play the entire Baldur’s Gate 1 campaign inside of it.

Here’s John’s (RPS in peace) diary series A Bastard In Neverwinter if you’re curious to learn how Neverwinter Nights 2 reacts to proto-Dark Urge shenanigans, and also just find the word ‘bastard’ inherently funny enough to force at least once into most articles you write, like some sort of marauding crambastard.

Memecoin SPX6900 Price Hits $1.20 After 127% Jump This Month

by admin June 4, 2025

SPX6900 is grabbing attention once again. The memecoin has shot up 123% over the past month and is currently priced at $1.20. In just the last seven days, it’s gained 21.1%, and it’s up another 10.4% in the last 24 hours, all without any obvious reason.

Its market value has climbed to $1.12 billion, placing it at the 68th spot on CoinMarketCap. The 24-hour trading volume is $71.16 million, slightly up from the previous day. Still, there have been no announcements, no updates, and no community activity.

Usually, when a token rallies like this, it’s driven by listings, partnerships, or at least developer updates. But SPX6900 has none of that. No social media posts. No roadmap. No tweet. Not even basic project communication.

Despite that, the price keeps climbing. SPX6900 has appeared among the top gainers more than once in recent weeks. Some traders think it’s a low supply movement. Others suspect whales or even internal activity. But the reason remains unclear.

The token has a circulating supply of 930 million, with a max supply of 1 billion. There’s no visible utility, no product update, and no transparency about the team behind it.

Right now, SPX6900 is rising, but without fundamentals, there’s no telling how long this will last. The crypto world is watching, but many are still skeptical.

Tron: Catalyst gets a short but sweet surprise demo ahead of its release later this month

by admin June 4, 2025

Tron is a world that I feel constantly surprised by its perseverance in just flat out still being a thing all these years later. And yet, I never feel upset about it given that the vibes of Tron just absolutely rule no matter the context in which they’re being delivered, the upcoming Jared Leto led film notwithstanding because of that guy’s whole vibe. In terms of what’s actually next for the fictitious video game world, there’s Tron: Catalyst from the folks over Bithell Games, and as it so happens, there’s a demo out for it today!

The demo, available on Steam, apparently makes up the first hour of the game, which certainly sounds like a healthy amount of time to suss out its vibes. In case you missed the announcement on this one, Tron: Catalyst is a top-down, sort of but not quite isometric action game where you play as Exo, a courier whose life gets shaken up by a mysterious package exploding leaving him with unusual abilities.

It’s set in the Arq Grid, a location previously established in Bithell Games’ Tron: Identity, a visual novel set in the Disney-owned universe. Storywise, the Arq Grid is a bit unstable, with glitches causing time to loop, and only Exo can see them. Lots of good stuff to latch onto here, and yes, you do have a Disc to fight with and a Light Cycle to ride around on, everything you’d want from a Tron game is here.

If you’re not the demo type, one, did you never buy a copy of Official PlayStation Magazine in the 2000s, and, two, that’s fine, because it’s due out on June 17th, just a couple of weeks away. I’m sure that’s enough time to get some distance from the launch of the Switch 2, and Summer Game Fest, and tomorrow’s PlayStation showcase, and the millions of other showcases happening in way too short of a timespan.

Phasmophobia will be getting a sound recorder, evidence revamp, and more with its Chronicle update next month

by admin June 1, 2025

The next Phasmophobia update, Chronicle, is due out next month with a newly revealed June 24th release date, and developer Kinetic Games have offered up some details on what it calls one of the game’s “biggest updates” so far. So, let’s have a look at what that entails! The key addition with this update is the arrival of sound evidence, which as you can probably guess is a new haunting paranormal proof type that you’ll acquire by using the newly added sound recorder.

In turn, the journal has been completely redesigned. The photos tab will now be the media tab, which organises evidence into photos, videos, and those aforementioned sound recordings. You’ll need to fill your book up with unique media to achieve a perfect investigation, and there’s some new events like EMF spikes, interactions like rocking chairs, and different ghost forms to help you do this.

The media quality system has been revamped too. Now whenever you capture your first bit of evidence of any media type, it’ll be marked as unique, so you’ll get some bonus dosh and experience once you’ve wrapped up a contract. Plus, there are some bug fixes coming with this update too.

Following the release of Chronicle, a rework of Grafton Farmhouse will be coming too. Kinetic explained in a blog post that the whole map has been overhauled, namely some re-themed rooms, certain spaces increasing or decreasing in size, and there’s a new “crowded attic, complete with sheet covered old furniture.”

Earlier this year Kinetic outlined the future of Phasmophobia, promising more (but not big) maps, more map reworks, and Horror 2.0, the long awaited full release of the, uh, horror game.

Solana's 18 Month Long Bull Run Against Ether is Over; XRP Ends Mini-Uptrend

by admin May 29, 2025

This is a daily technical analysis by CoinDesk analyst and Chartered Market Technician Omkar Godbole.

Programmable blockchain Solana is on course to flip its rival and leading smart contract blockchain Ethereum in terms of market capitalization, several observers have said it in recent months.

However, for now, Ethereum's native token ether ETH seems to have an upper hand over Solana's SOL SOL , according to technical analysis.

The SOL/ETH ratio has dived out of an upward sloping trendline connecting lows in September 2023, June 2024 and December 2024, per data source TradingView. In other words, tables have turned in ETH's favor and the token could outperform SOL in the near-term.

Additionally, the weekly chart MACD histogram is printing red, indicating a strengthening of the downside momentum.

The immediate support is seen at 0.055 (the Feb. 25 low). The pair needs to move back above the Ichimoku cloud to negate the SOL bearish outlook.

XRP loses uptrend

Another coin showing a shift in market trend is XRP, the cryptocurrency designed for cross-border payments.

XRP has dived out of a bullish ascending channel, marking the recovery from the early April lows near $1.6.

The breakdown has exposed support at $2, which acted as floor several times early this year. Should the buyers fail to defend that, a deeper slide to $1.60 could be seen.

On the higher side, the recent high of $2.65 is the level to beat for the bulls.

Lightyear Frontier will be getting a much bigger world, a narrative rework, hazards, and more in an update next month

by admin May 25, 2025

Lightyear Frontier launched into early access a little over a year ago, and it generally seems to have trudged along reasonably well since then. It’s not quite ready for 1.0 just yet, but a new update was announced by developers Frame Break and Amplifier Studios earlier this week that sounds like it’ll be bringing in some much needed changes.

Appropriately titled the Shifting Gears Update, there’s two big things it’s changing. For one, the world itself is about to get a lot bigger. The devs explained that while a lot of people liked the “lush nature of the game world,” it was also just a bit too small. So, the map is increasing in size for “large-scale farming”, with the main progression system receiving a rework for “higher emphasis on farming.”

Hazards like tornadoes have been added in too to make getting around this bigger world a bit more challenging (but you can also just turn that off if you’re just in it to relax).

Plus, as previously mentioned by the devs, the narrative is getting reworked, namely mostly cutting out the character PIP-3R as a constant voice in your ear. Jay Castello called this one quite accurately in their early access review of the farming sim last year.

The narrative isn’t going away completely, and PIP-3R may appear again further down the line. But for now the way you’ll learn about the story is through Inspection Points, which are just bits of flavour text that appear in certain areas, and Artifacts Findings, which are also just bits of flavour text from artifacts you find.

On top of all of that, there’s a lot more features coming like a new mod chip system to upgrade your mech, automated drone watering, and a lot more. You can check out the full list of additions over on Steam.

The Shifting Gears update isn’t too far away either, as it’s currently due out June 4th, just under a couple of weeks away.

Zenless Zone Zero version 2.0 is coming next month with a new city, 3D platforming and management minigames, and more

by admin May 25, 2025

Almost a year on from its initial release, Zenless Zone Zero version 2.0 has been announced, slated for release next month on June 6th. There’s a lot coming in this new update, namely a new area to head to, the Waifei Peninsula, a “remote yet vibrant district of New Eridu.” The story follows on from where the Sacrifice crisis was left off in previous chapters, seeing you “uncover the hidden secrets of Phaethon and experience new Hollow exploration gameplay that harnesses the forces of Ether.”

You’ll be able to wander around a new city, Failume Heights, which is filled with things like dessert stalls, tea houses, and pawnshops. Getting around this new city, and the original map, should be a bit easier too, as the 3D navigation system will be receiving an overhaul, with an added mini-map to help you keep track of where you are. Exploring Hollows will work slightly differently too, as there are new perception techniques that let you do things like finding clues to follow the flow of Ether.

Watch on YouTube

What essentially looks like a 3D platformer minigame has been added in too where you play as Eous through different levels to gather up Star Anchor Data. An entire management minigame has been added in too where you get to run your own Suibian Temple. Here you send Bangboo out to explore to find different goods to sell.

On top of all of this, you’ll also be able to change your Proxies’ outfit, take part in a mech-battle event, take part in a new agent story, unlock new W-Engines, and a lot more. You can take a look at the teaser trailer above for more specifics.

There will, as is typical of many gacha games, be anniversary benefits like free pulls and a free standard S-Rank agent, plus some giveaways too. Seems a bit overwhelming to be honest, but in a roguelike like this with the kind of character designs that it has, being overwhelmed almost seems like the whole point.

Zenless Zone Zero Season 2, Where Clouds Embrace The Dawn, launches next month

by admin May 25, 2025

Zenless Zone Zero Season 2, entitled Where Clouds Embrace The Dawn, will launch on 6th June.

Calling it “a significant update and milestone moment” – the gacha game will also release on the same day for Xbox – HoYoverse teased that in Version 2, players will “embark on a brand-new and exciting journey to Waifei Peninsula, alongside Yixuan from Yunkui Summit”.

“In this expansive update, Proxies will venture into the all-new Waifei Peninsula alongside trusted allies such as Yixuan from Yunkui Summit, revitalize the Suibian Temple nestled within the bustling Failume Heights, and take on more challenging Hollow combat in a more open and spacious environment. To commemorate the game’s first anniversary, Version 2.0 will bring a wide array of celebration rewards including a free S-Rank Agent, a free S-Rank W-Engine, 1,600 Polychromes and 20 Encrypted Master Tapes,” the developer added.

Version 2.0 Teaser “Where Clouds Embrace the Dawn” | Zenless Zone Zero.Watch on YouTube

Following the resolution of the Sacrifice crisis in previous chapters, Season 2 sees Proxies further uncover the hidden secrets of Phaethon and experience new Hollow exploration gameplay that harnesses the forces of Ether.

“The region’s main city Failume Heights thrives near the Lemnian Hollow, renowned for the rare resource Porcelume. It offers distinctive tea houses, pawnshops, and dessert stalls, inviting Proxies to immerse themselves in the local atmosphere,” HoYo added. “Meanwhile, Proxies will take on management of their very own Suibian Temple, upgrade the temple’s facilities and earn in-game rewards by dispatching Bangboos, completing commissions, and collecting resources from the Hollows.”

Several new allies will join the roster: Yixuan, also known as the Grandmaster, will join the combat as an S-Rank Agent, Ju Fufu, the senior disciple of Yunkui Summit, who will debut as an S-Rank Fire Stun Agent, and Pan Yinhu, Yunkui Summit’s A-Rank Physical Defense Agent.

The S-Rank Ether Support Astra Yao and the S-Rank Physical Defense Caesar will return to the Version 2.0 banners.

Players can also expect Hollow Zero: Lost Void to be updated with “new commissions and the possibility to equip multiple Gears to different Agents, adding more strategic options to battles”, plus a brand-new 3D map with enhanced navigation features.

“In Version 2.0, Proxies will be able to enter the cinema in Lumina Square to enjoy movies with different characters during the Gravitational Attraction event and obtain exclusive rewards by completing certain tasks, including an A-Rank W-Engine Reel Projector,” we’re told. “In the Soul of Steel: Golden Bond event, Proxies can pilot sleek mechs into the Hollows, take on a variety of challenges, and earn abundant rewards.”

In March, two voice actors working on Zenless Zone Zero were suddenly recast due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike over AI abuse, and discovered the change alongside the publication of the game’s patch notes. In a statement subsequently shared on social media, the studio said its contracts offer “explicit AI protections, regardless of union status” and it will continue to work on its clients’ projects “in the most human way possible”.
