Unlocking Mirror Mode in Mario Kart World is so obtuse, even Nintendo got the details wrong

Nintendo emailed a correction round to Switch 2 users yesterday after providing the wrong details on how to unlock Mario Kart World’s Mirror Mode.

The email, a thank you to players of the Switch 2 launch game, included tips on how to play, as well as instructions for more experienced players to unlock the iconic mode.

In a follow-up email, Nintendo then apologised for providing incorrect instructions. Yes, the method to unlock Mirror Mode is so obtuse even Nintendo itself got it wrong.

“Nintendo’s newsletter, sent to you on 12/06/2025, contained an error regarding the criteria required to unlock Mirror mode in Mario Kart World,” the email read. “The information shared was incomplete, and additional steps are required before the mode can be accessed.”

Mirror Mode is a staple of the Mario Kart series and is usually unlocked as endgame content after completing the grand prix cups. In Mario Kart World, however, it’s tied to the game’s Free Roam mode.

As per Nintendo’s email, Mirror Mode can be unlocked in the following way:

“Discover a new way to race! In Free Roam, you’ll need ten ? Panels, Peach Medallions and successful P Switch missions, plus every 150cc Cup and Rally completed to unlock this.”

Mario Kart World is the flagship launch title for Nintendo’s Switch 2, though it’s soon to be joined by Donkey Kong Bananza.

Nintendo Switch 2 Supports These Discounted Marvel Controllers In Handheld Mode

It’s only a matter of time before an accessory manufacturer releases an alternative handheld controller designed for Nintendo Switch 2. Controllers like Hori’s officially licensed Split Pad Pro/Compact and CRKD’s Nitro Deck became popular choices for those seeking better ergonomics and customization features. But you actually don’t have to wait to ditch the Joy-Con 2. I’ve spent the past few days playing the Switch 2 in handheld mode with the versatile GameSir G8 Plus Galileo Bluetooth Controller.

The G8 Plus has an extendable cradle like the Backbone Pro, Razer Kishi V3 Pro, and many other mobile controllers. Where it differs from most is that it offers Nintendo Switch support in addition to iOS and Android. Store pages haven’t been updated to mention Switch 2, but I’ve spent the past few days using the G8 Plus and can confirm it offers the same functionality on Nintendo’s new console.

So far, I’ve found that the G8 Plus works well on Switch 2 and has several features beyond improved ergonomics that make it a compelling alternative: back buttons, Hall Effect sticks, swappable components, a traditional D-pad, and Marvel-themed designs.

GameSir collaborated with Marvel to create officially licensed models themed around Hulk and Thanos. Both Marvel editions are currently on sale for $80 at Walmart. If you don’t like Marvel, the standard black version is available for the same price at Amazon.

The standard black version of the G8 Plus uses a similar shade of black as the Switch 2 console. The $80 deal is sold by the manufacturer and ships from Amazon. The G8 Plus previously retailed for $80, but it now carries a $100 MSRP.

The officially licensed Incredible Hulk Edition is also available for $80 (was $100) at Walmart. The controller is sold by GameSir and ships from Walmart.

The Hulk Edition uses a vibrant green color accented by a few pieces of purple artwork. It’s a more subdued design than many themed controllers, since the artwork was designed to blend in with the base colors.

All five sticks and the D-pad match the darker green found on the back of the controller. The face buttons are purple (A and B) and green (X and Y). Hulk’s name is outlined in purple across the back and punctuated by his fist.

If you’d rather have a controller themed around The Mad Titan, the Thanos Edition is officially licensed by Marvel and available for $80 (was $100) at Walmart. Like the Hulk model, it ships from Walmart and is sold by GameSir.

The Thanos Edition has a gold and purple color scheme. The front is accented by glossy gold artwork, and the back is purple with “Thanos” written in large block letters across the center.

The face buttons are purple and gold (two of each), and the D-pad and triggers match the glossy gold accents. It comes with one purple stick and four gold sticks.

The G8 Plus is equipped with Hall Effect sticks that feel smooth and precise. Hall Effect sensors are considered “anti-drift,” so they should hold up well over time. The Joy-Con 2 Controllers have ALPS sticks, and some users have already started experiencing problems with drift.

As mentioned, there are several other features that make it a compelling option for Switch 2. It has a pair of remappable back buttons, one on each side, and a traditional D-pad. The back buttons can be remapped on the controller itself or in GameSir’s mobile app.

It also has a 6-axis gyroscope for motion controls and rumble motors on each side. With a more traditional controller form factor, the G8 Plus has better ergonomics than the Joy-Con 2.

The face buttons have the Xbox Controller layout, so A/B and X/Y are flipped. By default, Nintendo consoles will register the buttons as they are labeled, which may confuse some players. But there are two solutions to this problem. The G8 Plus has hot-swappable face buttons and sticks, allowing users to remove the faceplate, pop off the button caps, and switch their positions. If you don’t want to do this every time you switch between playing on mobile and Switch 2, you can enable “Switch mode” by holding the program button (M) and A. In this mode, the Switch registers A/B and X/Y as opposites.

Inside the box, you’ll find three additional stick caps that can replace the traditional sticks that come preinstalled. The trio of alternatives includes a domed model, a tall stick for FPS games, and a short stick with a smaller cap. Speaking of FPS games, you can enable hair trigger mode, which actuates the right and left triggers with shorter pulls.

There are a couple potential downsides to keep in mind when using the G8 Plus with the Switch 2. While the grip holds the Switch 2 securely in place and has a rubberized bridge and pads on each side to help prevent scratches, it doesn’t connect to the console like the Joy-Con controllers. When carrying the console around, you probably want to make sure you are holding the Switch 2 itself, not just the grip. Due to the Switch 2’s size, the edges extend beyond the top and bottom of the grips, leaving them exposed. You may want to add a protective shell to the Switch 2 when using the controller. Additionally, keep in mind that you will need to remove the Switch 2 from the cradle to dock it.

I often use the G8 Plus when gaming on iPhone. Platform versatility is a major perk here. It’s inevitable that manufacturers will release handheld Switch 2 controllers, but it’s unlikely many of them will work with other devices. So even if you wind up purchasing a different controller or adding an ergonomic grip to the console, the G8 Plus doesn’t need to collect dust. You can even use it as a wireless controller on Switch 2 (or Switch) when playing on your TV.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake Reveals Surprise Multiplayer Mode

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater isn’t just a 4K remake of the original PlayStation 2 game, it turns out. The Unreal Engine 5 upgrade of MSG 3 is also getting some entirely new content, including a multiplayer mode called Fox Hunt.

Revealed during a Konami Press Start showcase on Thursday, Fox Hunt takes place online in the same world as the single-player story but with different gameplay. Mode director Yu Sahara, who’s worked on Metal Gear in the past, distinguished it from Metal Gear Online, a multiplayer spin-off of Metal Gear Solid 4 that featured tactical stealth takes on traditional scenarios like team deathmatch and capture the flag.

“The landscape of multiplayer games has changed a lot,” he said during the livestream. Indeed it has, but the most appealing about Metal Gear getting multiplayer again is how old-school it might end up feeling compared to the current glut of extraction shooters, battle royales,and battle passes. Here’s a quick teaser from the showcase:

Instead of bringing that back, Sahara and the team at Konami worked on updating what Metal Gear Online might look like decades later. The focus will still be on camouflage and staying hidden before choosing the right time to go after an objective or surprise an opponent, and footage in a brief teaser showed characters getting into what look like small D-Walker-type mechs on the battlefield. Also lots of operatives crawling around in leaf shrouds.

Konami didn’t have anything else to reveal about the mode other than it will be arriving with the rest of Metal Gear Solid Delta at launch on August 28. In addition to Fox Hunt, the remake also features a Snake vs. Bomberman mode and one where he has to round-up monkeys from Ape Escape. Despite the new content, however, much of the base game appears to be an exceedingly faithful retread of the 2000s-era stealth thriller, just with modern controls and other tweaks to make it more approachable for new audiences. The original is still available to play as part of the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection released back in 2023.

Nobody Predicted Israel Would Strike Iran, But Bitcoin Is Still Not in Panic Mode: Analysis

The Middle East is again at war, with rising tensions between Israel and Iran spooking markets and sending prices for both traditional and crypto assets, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, tumbling to weekly lows. Is it time to panic for Bitcoin investors? The data currently doesn’t support that view.

Bitcoin dropped 4.5% in the past 24 hours to trade at $104,343, while Ethereum crashed 8.2% to $2,552 as escalating Middle East tensions sparked a massive risk-off move across cryptocurrency markets. The selloff, which began during Asia trading hours on June 13, wiped out over $420 billion from the total crypto market cap and triggered $1.2 billion in leveraged liquidations.

Following news that Israel had launched a major military operation against Iran, digital assets indeed tumbled sharply. The pre-dawn airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear and military facilities sent shockwaves through global financial markets, with cryptocurrencies bearing the brunt of the selling pressure as investors fled to traditional safe havens.

The odds of such dramatic escalation seemed remote just days ago. The probability of Israel attacking Iran was trading at less than 20% throughout the week on the prediction market Polymarket, dipping as low as 11% at various points. And this is something markets don’t like—not war, but uncertainty. Currently, on Myriad Markets—a prediction market developed by Decrypt’s parent company Dastan—the odds of a US-Iran nuclear deal before the end of the week has dropped to just 4.7%.

Meanwhile, the S&P 500 dropped 0.66% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.17% as investors fled to traditional safe havens. Gold surged 1.8% to $3,445 per ounce, approaching its record high of $3,500.05, while Brent crude oil prices jumped as much as 9.21% during Asia hours before settling around 7% higher at $72.6 per barrel.

The sharp moves in commodities reflected genuine supply concerns. Iran, as OPEC’s third-largest producer, controls critical oil infrastructure, and any prolonged conflict could severely disrupt global energy markets. Defense stocks predictably surged. Just for context, Lockheed Martin and Palantir jumped about 3% as investors positioned for potential military escalation

The crypto Fear & Greed Index, which measures investors’ appetite for these risk assets, retreated from 65 to 54, moving from “greed” to “neutral”—an arguably healthy reset rather than the extreme fear readings typically associated with major market bottoms. This measured shift in sentiment, combined with continued ETF inflows of $86.31 million into Bitcoin despite the price decline, suggests institutional conviction remains intact.

Against this backdrop of panic in traditional markets, Bitcoin’s 2.4% decline to $104,343 appears remarkably contained. Yes, the leading cryptocurrency triggered $1.2 billion in leveraged liquidations as it broke below the psychologically important $106,000 level. But considering the magnitude of the geopolitical shock, the selloff lacks the hallmarks of genuine panic.

The technical picture supports this thesis. Bitcoin’s Relative Strength Index, or RSI, on the daily chart sits at 47—down from overbought levels near 80 last week but still firmly in neutral territory. This suggests profit-taking rather than capitulation. The Average Directional Index (ADX), which measures the strength of a trend regardless of direction, is now at 17, which indicates weak directional momentum. That means the current move lacks the conviction typically seen during crisis-driven crashes, which tracks with the coin’s recent lateralization.

Bitcoin’s Exponential Moving Average, or EMA, is even more telling. EMA measures the average price of an asset, in this case Bitcoin, over a given period of time. Bitcoin’s 50-day EMA at $102,513 provided initial resistance on the bounce attempt, suggesting technical levels still matter—a sign that algorithmic trading rather than emotional panic is driving price action. The 200-day EMA sits much lower at $92,687, showing the longer-term uptrend remains intact.

For Bitcoin, the immediate test lies at reclaiming the $105,757 level (50/200-day EMA confluence). Failure to break back above this level would target: $100,000 as psychological support, and $95,000 as visible support, based on the charts.

Upside resistance stands at $110,000, with the recent all-time high near $111,891 remaining the key level for bulls to reconquer.

Ethereum and altcoins bear the brunt

Ethereum’s steeper 7% drop to a daily low of $2,439 before bouncing to its current $2,552.30 reflects the typical risk-off rotation from altcoins to Bitcoin during market stress. Despite recording 19 consecutive days of ETF inflows, ETH couldn’t maintain support above $2,700 as traders de-risked portfolios.

The second-largest cryptocurrency’s technical indicators paint a more bearish picture than Bitcoin’s. With RSI at 50.6 and the ADX at 22 showing that the bullish bounce is now very, very weak, and the longer bearish trend is still in play, Ethereum shows stronger directional movement to the downside. The price is currently hovering near the 200-day EMA ($2,473), having broken below it during the selloff. The 50-day EMA sits at $2,417, and a break below would signal a more significant trend change.

Ethereum bulls, then, must defend the current $2,552 level to avoid a deeper correction. The key levels to watch are the resistances at $2,738 and an immediate support hear the psychological levels of $2,417.

Meme coins suffered disproportionate losses, with Fartcoin—this week’s epitome of meme coin bullishness for absolutely no meaningful reason—plummeting 12% to $1.1968. The token’s breakdown from its ascending wedge pattern, combined with strong selling pressure, exemplifies how speculative positions unwind rapidly during times of uncertainty. The RSI at 50 shows neutral momentum after falling from overbought conditions, while the ADX at 22 confirms the switch from bullish to neutral move.

And even with all that said, the chart still paints an overall bullish picture for Fartcoin, and meme coins tend to do weird things. As a general rule, though, you can expect meme coins and other altcoins to mirror Bitcoin’s moves, but with a lot more volatility.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater taking “hide-and-go-seek to the next level” with original multiplayer mode

Konami has announced Fox Hunt mode for its upcoming release, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

Fox Hunt is a “completely original” online multiplayer mode, which while sharing the world with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will have “completely different” gameplay. It is not, the developer has said, Metal Gear Online (they knew you would ask that).

Fox Hunt is “its own, new type of mode,” the team explained during the reveal. “We very much appreciate all the long time fans of MGO, who have always wanted to see it make a comeback. But, the landscape of multiplayer games has changed a lot since MGO.”

A lot of thought was put into coming up with its new online mode, Konami said, and Fox Hunt will have a focus on stealth and survival. “We’re taking camouflage and hide-and-go-seek to the next level,” the studio said, promising “more than just a shoot out”.

Grounded 2 will have an arachnophobia mode, even for its rideable spiders

I used to think arachnophobia was overblown. Okay, you’re scared of spiders, whatever, get over it. Then one day, many years ago, I saw what happened when my boss at the time—a genuine arachnophobe—came within inches of touching a small spider as he was walking through a doorway. It was as if someone had mashed up an Olympic 100 meter dash, John Travolta’s most frenetic disco moves, and the inhuman noises of a mutant demon from the fifth dimension tearing through the fabric of reality as it crawled into our own world, and then stuffed it all down the throat of my very surprised, very distressed pal—all of it over a spider you could barely see without squinting. And on that day, I was convinced: Okay, maybe there is something to this arachnophobia thing.

Respect for arachnophobia has also taken on greater importance in videogames in recent years, as a growing number of games either launch with or add arachnophobia modes, accommodating players who simply cannot tolerate being in the presence of spiders. Grounded was one of them, and speaking to Polygon, game director Chris Parker confirmed that Grounded 2 will have an arachnophobia mode as well.

The arachnophobia mode in Grounded 2 will be based on the one established in the first game, which according to PC Gamer’s favorite spider-hater Mollie Taylor is quite good: It actually offers a slider that lets players adjust how spider-like they want the in-game critters to be, to the point that they can be turned into near-literal balloon animals.

Grounded 2 has “more challenges,” because spiders can be used as mounts. Parker said applying an effective arachnophobia mode to a rideable spider is “tricky,” but probably not as bad as you might think—and it sounds like the team is largely sticking with what worked in the first game.

“We really just go onto the skeleton and put cute-looking spheres where claws and eyeballs and abdomens used to be,” Parker said. “And as long as we take it far enough away from that eight-legged insect, that seems to work for people. So yeah, it’s not all that crazy.”

For the benefit of players who aren’t full-on arachnophobes but still get a little creeped out by the hairiest, hissy-est eight-legged crawlers, Parker also said developers at Obsidian are careful not to go too hog-wild with its in-game creations. “I think in general, we try to just push that as hard as we can, and at some point we go, ‘Oh, I think we pushed this too far.’ And we do bump into certain assets that we’ve created where we’re like, ‘Well… I don’t really know. Let’s take that out.’ Or, ‘Let’s put it in there, and see what user research has to say about it.’

“Now that we’re finally able to talk about the game and we’re going into early access, we can talk to the community about it. But those are the kind of conversations that we want to have with the community out there, see what they have to say about it too.”

Grounded 2 is set to launch into early access on July 29 and is available for wishlisting now on Steam.

Despite its new easy mode, Lies of P will get a ‘difficulty reduction’ in a future update because too many players are getting wrecked by the DLC

The Pinocchio soulslike Lies of P got an easy mode alongside the release of Overture DLC last week, an entirely uncontroversial move that riled up absolutely no one. But the DLC also apparently introduced a major difficulty spike in the Legendary Stalker mode—previously the game’s default—and it’s bad enough that game director Ji Won Choi says developer Neowiz is going to make some adjustments.

Soulslikes are supposed to be tough, yes, but as you can see in this newly formed megathread on the Lies of P subreddit (via Kotaku), Lies of P felt a little too tough for quite a few players following the launch of Overture. The problem seems particularly bad in NG+ modes. Naturally, there are a few who proclaim the game is actually very easy—there always is—but the bulk of posts seem to feel that the DLC has thrown things out of whack.

“The base game was basically pitch perfect. There were a few stupid things, but nothing was super egregious,” redditor Lord_Nightraven wrote. “DLC? The devs overdid things. And it shows. The stat numbers alone feel like NG+1 end game/early NG+2. That’s on NG+0. That’s a massive spike all things considered on intended difficulty, aka Legendary Stalker.”

“I’m NG+1 getting two-shot by everything even on easiest difficulty and I’m stuck on the predator boss,” tylxr567 complained. “I’m bad but seriously I can complete the main game on hardest difficulty just fine, this DLC is crazy.”

RJE808 was somewhat more to the point about it: “Markiona is about to make me drop this shit. Holy fuck.”

Well, good news, Overture-sufferers: Your plaintive wailing has been heard.

“We want to thank you for all the feedback and suggestions our community has sent us since the launch,” Choi said in a video posted today. “We’re reviewing all of it carefully and are already looking into when to implement some of your suggestions.

“Among all the feedback, we are paying the closest attention to the combat experience. We identified areas that did not turn out quite as we intended. Therefore, we are reviewing various adjustments, including difficulty reduction.”

Don’t expect Neowiz to start waving the nerfhammer around immediately, though. “Combat is one of the most fundamental experiences in Lies of P, so any modifications or changes require meticulous work and thorough testing,” Choi said. Developers are still digging into what exactly needs to be done, but Choi added that he wanted to put the word out now so fans know “why it’s taking our team some time, and the general direction we’re heading.”

It says something, I think, that the reaction to the announcement of the difficulty reduction seems mostly welcoming. Again, the git gud crowd is there to say it’s not actually hard at all, but the broader feeling is that the DLC introduced serious issues with difficulty scaling. The adjustment, whenever it happens, will no doubt lead to a fresh round of “I beat it pre-patch” jokes, but if it also means the majority of players can properly enjoy it again, I’d call that a fair trade.

Top analyst Axel Adler shared a key insight from CryptoQuant data: average spot trading volume on centralized exchanges has dropped to its lowest level since October 2020. According to Adler, this suggests that market participants are not selling into strength, nor are they aggressively buying. Coins are being held tightly, with minimal movement on-chain or in spot markets.

This “HODL mode” points to growing long-term conviction among investors, but also reflects uncertainty. The lack of spot activity makes it harder for prices to break out decisively without fresh capital entering the market. Still, if Bitcoin can flip $112K into support, it could trigger a surge of momentum-driven buying.

BTC Approaches Key Resistance

Bitcoin is trading at $107,200 after gaining 1.33% on the day, continuing its rebound from the $103,600 support level. The daily chart shows BTC climbing steadily, reclaiming the 34-day EMA at $103,683 and holding well above the 50-day and 100-day SMAs, currently at $101,906 and $93,053, respectively. This clean reclaim of key moving averages is a bullish technical signal, showing that momentum is gradually shifting back in favor of the bulls.

Price is now approaching the $109,300 resistance level — the final barrier before retesting the all-time high near $112,000. This zone has acted as a ceiling since late May and is now the key level to watch. A daily close above $109,300 would likely trigger a breakout and send BTC into price discovery territory.

Volume remains relatively low compared to earlier surges, suggesting the move is driven more by steady spot demand than aggressive buying. However, the structure remains constructive, with higher lows forming since the early June bounce.

As long as Bitcoin holds above $103,600 and continues to push toward resistance, the broader trend remains intact. A rejection at $109,300, however, could send BTC back into consolidation. The next few sessions will be critical.

A Hitman co-op mode with Stone and Knight is in the works at IO Interactive

Developer IO Interactive is developing a co-op mode for Hitman: World of Assassination.

Announced last night, this mode is still relatively under wraps, but does feature two names you may recognise: Stone and Knight. These two popped up in the Hitman Sniper mode.

On this co-op mode’s release, players will be able to pop into “exciting missions” from the Hitman world with their pal by their side. These missions will “challenge” players to rethink how they approach things now they are going in as one of a pair. Someone once said to me a good friend will always help you hide the bodies, so I guess that is very fitting for this story.

IO noted it was “early days” for its upcoming Hitman co-op mode, but it would share more news about it all with us “soon”, so stay tuned.

In addition to this little nugget, IO has also announced that Hitman: World of Assassination has now reached the 25m units sold milestone. The developer added the game has registered 80 million players, which takes into account players from World of Assassination, as well as its Free Starter Pack.

“Agent 47 continues to resonate with audiences around the world, proving the enduring appeal of the franchise as it approaches its 25th anniversary,” said IO head Hakan Abrak.

Elsewhere in Hitman news, players can now assassinate Le Chiffre from Casino Royale, with actor Mads Mikkelsen reprising his role from the 2006 film.

IO also recently lifted the lid on its upcoming Bond game. Earlier this week, we got a reveal trailer which introduced us to the young Bond at the start of his life as an agent. But, while it may be an origin story, 007: First Light already has plenty of nods to the Bond books and films that came before.

Belkin BoostCharge Pro 2-in-1 Wireless Charging Dock with MagSafe review

The Belkin BoostCharge Pro 2-in-1 Wireless Charging Dock with MagSafe is a weighty charging stand that can wirelessly charge an Apple Watch along with a compatible phone or earbuds case. It has a list price of $119.99 / £109.99 on the Belkin website, and can also be found at Amazon, with occasional offers appearing from both retailers in the form of discounts or purchase incentives.

At that price, it’s clear the Belkin BoostCharge Pro 2-in-1 Wireless Charging Dock with MagSafe isn’t a budget option. But that doesn’t stop it offering a sturdy yet space-saving wireless charging solution that’ll happily charge three Apple devices, albeit not at the same time.

The 2-in-1 Wireless Charging Dock with MagSafe comes in two colorways: Charcoal or Sand. The charger I’ve tested is the Charcoal model, which is composed of a super-soft-to-the-touch silicone-like outer material, with metallic accents on the charging pad hinge and the Apple Watch charging puck holder that’s fixed to the back of the charging stand. It became clear that dust could pose a problem straight out of the box, as the silicone material acted like a dust and lint magnet, so it took a bit of effort to keep it looking its best.

I was pleased to find that a 30W USB-C power supply comes as standard, as one should expect for the price, and the USB-C power cable is braided, giving it a more premium feel. This detail is something I don’t see all that often, even amongst the best wireless chargers, but very much appreciate when it comes along, as I did when I reviewed the ESR Qi2 Mini Wireless Charger, too. This is not simply because it looks good, but because it can often withstand more action than standard flexible plastic coverings that can split over time. The cable isn’t removable, which I’m usually not a fan of, but I’m not fussed in this instance, as this charging dock clearly isn’t designed to be relocated regularly, plus it reduces the chance of someone else in your household pinching the cable to power something else.

As the 2-in-1 Wireless Charging Dock with MagSafe had dimensions of 4.1 x 2.8 x 3.1 inches / 105 x 71 x 78 mm, it was nice that I could charge all of my devices without taking up a load of desktop or nightstand space. And I really appreciated the adjustable viewing angles that the charging dock offered, as I could keep the pad flat to charge my earbuds, or angle it up to 70 degrees to watch content on my iPhone, or toggle StandBy Mode. I found the non-slip base, strong MagSafe grip, and 1 lb / 450g weight of the charging dock to be reliable for the entirity of my testing, standing its ground and keeping a firm hold of my phone despite my poking and prodding.
