Black Ops 7 brings back wallrunning, and introduces an unusual endgame mode to the campaign

by admin August 20, 2025

We’ve been expecting today’s reveal, of course, ever since Activision confirmed back in July that Black Ops 7 would be part of Opening Night Live’s line-up this year. This is technically the game’s second “reveal”, because its first outing was at the very end of the Xbox Showcase back in June.

Today’s showcase was a lot more detailed, offering a look at gameplay that went beyond just a simple teaser of the game’s setting.

First things first, the leaked November release date turned out to be accurate. Black Ops 7 is set for launch on November 14. As for today’s reveal, its focus was mainly on the larger systems, features, and new mechanics arriving with the game. As previously announced, the co-op campaign (four-player) returns, but Treyarch is adding a pretty unusual twist to that.

The campaign’s final mission is what the developer calls Endgame, and it’s essentially a replayable, open-world section with some RPG and extraction elements. You get to customise your loadout and take on missions and other challenges within runs, where you can also level up and earn new abilities.

We also got a look at some of the futuristic weaponry we’ll be able to wield, and a few of the locations we’re going to be visiting. There’s a big emphasis on movement in Black Ops 7, which builds on Black Ops 6’s Omnimovement system with new possibilities, including the return of wallrunning.

Round-based Zombies is a core feature of the game, of course. This year, you can look forward to vehicle-based gameplay, as well as the return of Survival maps. Multiplayer was touched on, but the full reveal won’t arrive until Call of Duty: Next on September 30. There’s going to be a beta following that, too, taking place October 2-8.

Black Ops 7’s story takes place in the near future, a decade after the events of Black Ops 2. The game is the first consecutive Black Ops release in Call of Duty history, following last year’s Black Ops 6.

As beloved as the Black Ops name is, however, this year’s game faces tough competition in the form of Battlefield 6, a game whose beta has been breaking records throughout the month, overtaking even the most popular Call of Duty release on Steam.

There’s still a lot yet to be revealed for Black Ops 7, but community sentiment so far has been a lot more in favour of Battlefield 6 over it. Call of Duty rarely misses, though, and even with it does, it still manages to be the best-selling game in the year of its release.

Ghost Of Tsushima’s Underrated Multiplayer Mode Comes Back For Yotei

by admin August 20, 2025

Ghost of Yōtei Legends will bring multiplayer to Sony’s fall blockbuster, though not until next year. The cooperative online mode will arrive as free DLC sometime in 2026.

For anyone unfamiliar with the mode from the original game, Legends was a multiplayer spin-off for Ghost of Tsushima that had players team up online to take down mythical challenges in a new series of story missions, fight off waves of enemies in a horde-like survival mode, or compete with other players to see who could rack up the highest score. There were character classes, difficulty ranks, and unlockable cosmetics. It was one of those multiplayer add-ons to a single-player adventure that was way better than it had any right to be.

A PlayStation Blog post suggests things will work pretty much the same in Ghost of Yotei Legends, though this time the story missions will revolve around teaming up to take down members of the Yōtei Six, the main antagonists of the single-player campaign. They’ll be accompanied by new enemies, however, and presumably have other, more challenging tricks up their sleeves. The return of the survival mode is also confirmed, though it’s currently unclear if that will include the 2v2 contest option as well. It sounds like Sucker Punch will reveal more details once Ghost of Yotei is out on October 2.

The original Ghost of Tsushima multiplayer mode was one of Sony’s more successful first-party forays into live-service content. Its popularity among fans made it seem like a slam dunk impressive enough to justify a full-blown standalone spin-off game. But despite the literal billions Sony has poured into trying to get a fleet of live-service games off the ground, Legends hasn’t been among the projects released or canceled, at least that we know of. If anything, the success of Elden Ring Nightreign proves there’s definitely players out there who want innovative co-op riffs on traditional single-player games. We’ll see if Ghost of Yotei Legends can satisfy some of that pent-up demand when it arrives next year.

All BTC Wallet Cohorts Now in Distribution Mode

by admin August 19, 2025

Sentiment in the crypto industry can shift quickly.

According to Glassnode data, all bitcoin

wallet cohorts are currently in some form of distribution. The Accumulation Trend Score (ATS), broken down by wallet cohort, helps measure the relative strength of accumulation or distribution across entity sizes.

This metric evaluates accumulation strength by considering both the size of the entities and the amount of bitcoin acquired over the past 15 days.

  • A score closer to 1 indicates accumulation.
  • A score closer to 0 indicates distribution.
Exchanges, miners, and certain other entities are excluded from the calculation.

At present, from large holders with more than 10,000 BTC to small wallets holding less than 1 BTC, all cohorts appear to be in distribution. This marks a sharp reversal from just over a week ago, when all groups were in accumulation mode as bitcoin reached new all time highs above $124,000.

The current phase of distribution reflects profit taking. Historically, bitcoin tends to correct shortly after setting new record highs. The aggregate Accumulation Trend Score has printed 0.26, remaining below 0.5 for the past several days.

Bitcoin has posted four consecutive green months from April through July. However, August is often characterized by quieter trading activity and reduced volume. In fact, the last three Augusts each saw corrections in the double-digit percentage range.

Mafia: The Old Country will get a proper open world mode via game update “in the coming months”

by admin August 19, 2025

Mafia: The Old Country may be an offer you can probably refuse, but it does have a lush-looking open world – “clearly designed with care and a sharp eye for capturing the beauty of a fairytale landscape that alternates between serene and rugged,” as Mark “Ice Pick” Warren wrote in our review.

The game’s focus on shootybangs and stabfights does the backdrop a disservice, as does its rather barren and easy-to-miss Exploration mode, which I hear is basically a chance to snaffle up some collectibles. Devs Hangar 13 and their godfathers at 2K Games aim to fix all that with a forthcoming Free Ride mode, which will “add some new activities and gameplay, arriving free for all players in the coming months,” according to a developer update.

Hangar 13’s previous Mafia: Definitive Edition also had a Free Ride mode, which let you roam Lost Heaven taking on new missions and races and even tussling with alien invaders. I would assume The Old Country’s version will be similar in both content and direction. Can’t wait to see what flying saucers look like in 1900s Sicily.

I’m always happy when blockbuster devs add modes that encourage you to revisit and savour the texture of the world. Projects such as Mafia: The Old Country typically pour tens of millions into the creation of art assets that are doomed to be appreciated for around five seconds while players zip fecklessly from cover to cover.

I guess that mingled decadence and disposability is part of the triple-A thrill, like burning 100 dollar bills to light a cigar. Have you ever done that? I once set a five pound note on fire for a dare, but I extinguished it immediately and, I think, bought a coffee with it. This is why I will never run 2K Games.

Again, there’s no hard launch date yet for Free Ride in Mafia: The Old Country. In the shorter term, Mark has dug up a first-person driving mod, which allows you to savour the period detail at the modest expense of occasionally seeing your own eyeballs floating in front of your face.

WNBA players to play alongside NBA stars in NBA 2K26 MyTeam for the first time with new game mode announced

by admin August 17, 2025

Women’s NBA players are set to take the court alongside their male NBA counterparts in NBA 2K26’s MyTeam mode for the first time. WNBA players will appear in all MyTeam game modes, including the new Breakout: Gauntlet mode where players complete a series of matches where the difficulty gets harder and harder, but they can only use each card in the collection once.

WNBA players have been part of the dominant 2K franchise since the introduction of 12 WNBA teams in NBA 2K20. But it took another two years until NBA 2K22 for Candace Parker to become the first female cover star.

In-game, the Attributes and Badges for both NBA and WNBA players’ cards will “function identically”, which 2K hopes will give a “balanced, consistent gameplay experience no matter who is on the court”.

Watch on YouTube

This news comes after EA’s flagship sports game, EA Sports FC 26, announced four new female Icons joining its roster of legendary players in Ultimate Team. Male and female players have shared the pitch in FC Ultimate Team for the last couple of years in a move that’s been largely successful, if not without its difficulties.

Comparing the two sports franchises, it will be interesting to see how WNBA stars are balanced within the meta of 2K26 MyTeam, where EA Sports FC has struggled to keep all but very top-tier women’s players competitive – with some notable exceptions.

As well as new player cards there will also be a dedicated WNBA Domination tier, and you will be able to customize your team with every WNBA uniform and the entire league’s court floors.

NBA 2K26 will launch on September 5th, with Early Access starting on August 29th, for PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo consoles and PC.

Battlefield 6 beta's rush mode gets a balancing tweak with EA monitoring the situation, amid player complaints about battle bigness

Battlefield 6 beta’s rush mode gets a balancing tweak with EA monitoring the situation, amid player complaints about battle bigness

by admin August 17, 2025

Update: EA have made some more balancing changes, this time affecting both the Battlefield 6 beta’s rush and breakthrough modes. “In breakthrough, it now takes fewer players on an objective to speed up capture. Also, defender respawn timers in both breakthrough and rush are now fixed at 12 seconds instead of the previous 6-12 second range,” the publishers wrote.

Original article follows:

EA have made a tweak to the Battlefield 6 open beta’s rush, and are keeping tabs on the situation in case it needs more balancing changes. This comes as some FPS folks and Battlefield vets have voiced their displeasure with the version of the mode that’s debuted in this second weekend of beta action.

The biggest moans are related to size. Namely the amount of players on each side in these revamped rush battles and the relatively small maps they’re being contested on. As you might imagine, those two elements being a bit titchier in scale than previous Battlefields has also had knock on effects for other aspects of the mode.

“We’ve just made a change to Rush: the MCOM timer is now reduced from 45 to 30 seconds to better the balance between attacking and defending players,” the Battlefield Comms account bugled out across the socials this morning. “We’ll continue to monitor and are ready and able to make further balance adjustments.” As of writing, no more tweaks have yet been forthcoming.

For those who don’t speak field battler, M-COMs are the military communications stations that serve as rush’s objectives, with the key being to blow them up or stop the other team from doing so, depending on whether you’re attacking or defending. The timer’s the amount of tick-tocking it takes any bombs you plant on these stations to go kaboom.

MCOM Timer Changes to Rush

We’ve just made a change to Rush: the MCOM timer is now reduced from 45 to 30 seconds to better the balance between attacking and defending players.

We’ll continue to monitor and are ready and able to make further balance adjustments.

We’ll see how much difference that makes, but the two aspects of the beta’s rush matches drawing the most ire from players who aren’t merrily shooting away are the 12 vs 12 squad size limit and the smaller maps, which can’t be easily fixed on the fly. The result’s an experience that’s not quite as expansive and vehicle-friendly in its chaos. At least in terms of the maps, Battlefield 6’s devs have moved to reassure folks that larger ones do exist, with lead producer David Sirland tweeting that folks complaining about the frenetic speed of beta matches will see that “tempo scales accordingly”.

This is just a beta, so there’s plenty of time for further changes to be made if EA reckon the unhappy voices represent a majority. Insert joke here about them probably being best of not rushing to judgement.

Mario Kart World updates Random online selection, but what fans really want is a classic mode

by admin June 26, 2025

Mario Kart World has received another update, which along with some general fixes also makes changes to courses selected in Random during an online VS Race.

While the update notes for Ver. 1.1.2, as it is known, simply state the Mario Kart World team has “adjusted courses selected in ‘Random’ when selecting next course in a wireless ‘VS Race'”, there is more to it than it may first appear.

Mario Kart World Is A TERRIFYING Influencer-Ridden Dystopian NIGHTMARE | Lore Deep Dive. Watch on YouTube

Prior to this update going live, if a player selected Randon during course selection while racing online, it would always result in a more traditional three lap race, rather than Mario Kart World’s community dubbed “intermission tracks”. These are the tracks that essentially run in one long and almost linear layout, and connect Mario Kart World’s, well, world.

Now, however, these intermission tracks have been added to the online Random fray, which means playing Mario Kart World in a more ‘traditional’ way with consistent three-lapped courses is not guaranteed.

Some online are rather unhappy with this development. “Nintendo has basically stepped in and said ‘no, you’re supposed to play this way’,” reads one comment on ResetEra. “They saw players clamoring for a more traditional online mode and did… the exact opposite of what they wanted.”

“There’s gotta be a classic mode coming. They have to understand WHY everyone is choosing random right? …..right?” another comment on reddit adds.

“Nintendo has ‘KILLED’ Online Versus in Mario Kart World,” also reads a post on X.

so you just cant avoid intermission online now 🙃 and what’s worse is that they choose from the 3 tracks already available. this is so annoying i might not even play online anymore

You can check out the full Mario Kart World update notes, as shared by Nintendo, below:

General

  • Adjusted courses selected in “Random” when selecting next course in a wireless “VS Race.”

Fixed Issues

  • Made readjustments to fix an issue where rate fluctuations were sometimes displayed incorrectly in “Online Play” and “Knockout Tour.”
  • Fixed an issue where you sometimes can’t recover quickly after falling off the course in “Dino Dino Jungle”.
  • Fixed an issue where you continually hit the wall near the finish line of “Boo Cinema” when transformed into Bullet Bill.

If you are still on the fence about giving Mario Kart World a spin, be sure to check out Eurogamer’s review, where our Tom said how the game “offers neat twists on the classic Mario Kart formula”, calling it all “entertaining, snackable, fun”.

Or, if you are already familiar with the bones of Mario Kart World, but need a little hand to get a bit more out of it (like unlocking that infamous Mirror Mode, for example), you can check out our guides. Here is one on the Dash Food locations in Mario Kart World to get you started.

The Enhanced edition of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 now has a release date across PS5 and existing platforms.

As revealed in May, the Hellblade sequel will arrive on PS5 this summer. That’s now confirmed to be 12th August.

This Enhanced version will be available as a free update on the same day across Xbox Series X/S and PC (Windows, Steam).

This version of the game will finally include a Performance Mode, optimised for 60 fps. On its original release, the game only ran at 30fps.

Other new features include: a return of the Dark Rot permadeath mode from Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, which sees the Dark Rot growing each time Senua fails; an expanded toolset for the Photo Mode; and behind the scenes developer commentary.

As previously reported, the PS5 version will include haptic feedback using Sony’s DualSense controllers.

This Enhanced version of Hellblade 2 will arrive in two editions. The Standard Edition, available at £49.99, includes the base game with these new Enhanced features.

The Deluxe Edition, priced at £69.99, will additionally include previous game Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice optimised for PS5, as well as the soundtrack.

Those who bought Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice on PS4 on its original release will be able to upgrade to the PS5 version for free.

Further details can be found on Xbox Wire.

“Hellblade 2 continues Senua’s story with grace, confidence, surprising brutality and thundering conviction,” reads our Eurogamer Senua’s Saga review.

It was the most-nominated game at this year’s BAFTA Game Awards, and won the award for Technical Achievement.

Assassin's Creed Shadows' latest update brings in a nightmare difficulty mode and another weird collab

Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ latest update brings in a nightmare difficulty mode and another weird collab

by admin June 25, 2025

Another month, another Assassin’s Creed Shadows update, again one that comes with a list of quality of life changes, but also one that comes with another surprising collaboration. Let’s start with that one, which is, weirdly, a new story pack made in collaboration with Critical Role, the wildly popular actual play series. For some context, Critical Role did an official Assassin’s Creed themed oneshot a little while back. In said oneshot, Hi-Fi Rush’s Robbie Daymond played a character called Rufino, who’s being added into the game through this new mission in update 1.0.6.

“Rufino, an old friend of Tomiko and Heiji, calls in a life debt after uncovering a deadly conspiracy,” Ubisoft explains. “While working as a translator, he discovered evidence that a secretive organization has been hiring assassins to eliminate influential commoners. Now, he turns to Naoe and Yasuke for help in stopping these killers.” Completing this quest nets you Rufino as a new ally, and you’ll get the Critical Role logo as a banner.

Right, now the regular update stuff. A new nightmare difficult setting is now available with this update, which does a few different things. Defensive options are less effective in this mode, and you need to pull off perfect parries for them to deflect the hit fully. Enemy AI is “smarter, faster, and more aggressive in a variety of circumstances, including detection.” And combat resources are harder to find too.

For those of you oddly desperate to wear your headgear during cutscenes, that’ll be an option now too, and there’s toggles for specific types of VFX that you can turn off and on as well. The regional alert system available in castles has been expanded to the whole province on top of that, meaning that when you repeatedly attack “Civilians or Military units outside Castles, the alarm can be triggered, and a group of Guardians will hunt you in the world.” There’s also three different camera presets when on a horse, for your riding pleasure.

Lastly, for us here in PC land, there’s an Ultra Low visual quality level – you can read about the exact specs that’s catered to over on the post about the update, alongside the list of fixes and tweaks that you mostly don’t need to worry about.

Battlefield 6 rumoured to get a battle royale mode as leaker finds footage of an exploding dam

Battlefield 6 rumoured to get a battle royale mode as leaker finds footage of an exploding dam

by admin June 22, 2025

Some raw footage has leaked of a cinematic moment in Battlefield 6 (or Battlefield Now, or Battlefield Big War, or whatever Electronic Arts are planning to call their next western military interventionism sim). The video sees the player escaping from a collapsing dam at the last minute as bomber jets launch a payload at the big concrete waterstopper. The footage is silent, but you can insert the manly yells of “Go! Go! Go!” easily enough yourself. Perhaps more interestingly, the same leaker also provides evidence of a battle royale mode.

The footage was posted on social media by data miner “temporyal”, who has been going through the files of the Battlefield Labs playtest client, uncovering various details. It’s a very early block-out of what may become a more detailed escapade during a campaign mission, or perhaps the early workings of a trailer – who knows. Either way, there’s lots of greybox geometry, placeholder props, and unfinished animations. Kind of like watching theatre actors perform a rehearsal wearing their jogger bottoms, script in hand. But it does give you a sense of scale, and it’s a reminder that EA remain obsessed with big chunks of world infrastructure falling on top of people.

It’s not the only thing the leaker claims to have uncovered in their spelunk down the data mines. They’ve also posted images and blurbs which suggest there will be a battle royale mode. Battlefield V had a battle royale mode called “Firestorm” and Battlefield 2042 had a not-quite-battle-royale mode called “Hazard Zone”. I’m curious to see if they go trad royale with this one or add some sort of battlespice, if this mode does materialise.

There are also lore tidbits that could mean maps set in New York and Turkmenistan. As for the campaign, the miner is convinced we’ll see missions taking place in various countries “including Egypt, Tajikistan, the USA, and Gibraltar”.

But of course, all this comes deep from the guts of the game’s current playtesting client. There’s no guarantee such things will surface in the finished game. Bits of lore and other narrative text can be easily misinterpreted, and none of it is officially confirmed by EA, who have yet to reveal more details about the game. They are planning to show off a no doubt explodey trailer with more information sometime this summer, according to EA comms director Andy McNamara.

This isn’t the first leak of footage from the shooter. Following a call for playtesters early this year, some nine minutes of multiplayer footage showing the series’ long-running conquest mode were leaked from those playtests. There are tanks and drones and medics, oh my.

It is looking traditionally shooty so far. Battlefield 2042, the last game of the series, was not particularly well-received among fans of bigwar, many of whom complained that it was not fully polished on release, full of bugs and instabilities. In his review, our Ed called it “an FPS that doesn’t feel ready yet”. That’ll be why EA is going so hard on playtesting this one then.
