Bluetti says it can reduce vanlife power installations to ‘30 minutes’

It only took three years, but Bluetti is following EcoFlow’s lead with a fully integrated power system of its own to make vanlifers, off-grid cabins, and boats energy independent. The RVSolar System’s main advantage over bespoke systems is a relatively quick and easy installation, requiring just “30 minutes,” according to Bluetti’s announcement at IFA 2025.

While it’s undoubtedly faster than installing a fully bespoke solution from Victron Energy, for example, the last time I installed EcoFlow’s comparable system, it took closer to five hours — and that was after several hours of planning, measuring, and double-checking. Thirty minutes is just the time needed to screw everything together, so there’s still a hint of truth here.

Bluetti’s 48V RVSolar System is capable of 5,000W of max AC output or 1,360W DC. That’s plenty of power for everything from a roof-mounted air conditioner and induction cooktop to a 12V water pump and lighting system. It can be configured with a whopping 122kWh of Bluetti’s self-heated LFP batteries — enough for me to live and work off the grid for as long as 76 days, based upon the 1.6kWh average that I consume daily in my own van. As a bonus, Bluetti’s system also supports compatible third-party batteries, which is something EcoFlow can’t claim with its proprietary connectors.

Maxing out a system with batteries will be overkill for most since these systems are designed to be easily rechargeable when out in the sticks. Batteries connected to the system can be recharged from a number of sources, including solar panels (up to 3600W), shore-power hookup (up to 5000W), a diesel generator (up to 5000W), and your vehicle’s own alternator (up to 1200W).

The system is built around an RV5 Power Hub unit that houses all the devices, which typically have to be wired together separately in a bespoke installation. These include the DC-to-AC inverter to convert DC energy to AC power for the microwave or coffee machine, an MPPT solar charger to regulate solar panel input, a DC-DC charger to top up the batteries when the vehicle’s motor is running, and a DC converter to step down the voltage for 12V / 24V devices like lights, USB sockets, pumps, and modern A/C units.

The kit also comes with a smart distribution panel for 8 AC and 20 DC circuits, with remote control over four of those AC circuits and six DC. You also get a wired 10.1-inch control screen that can be installed at a central location in the vehicle for remote monitoring and circuit-level control — functionality that’s replicated in the Bluetti app.

The RVSolar System will be available globally on September 30th. Pricing information wasn’t available at the time of publication, but I’d expect it to be on par with Victron components, especially if it’s using third-party batteries.

30 Minutes With Ninja Gaiden 4 Was All I Needed To Be Convinced

It’s been over a decade since the last numbered Ninja Gaiden game. While the precision-based hack-and-slash series was sleeping, most action games went one of two ways. They either morphed into sprawling RPG adventures full of bloat or tried to ape the obsession with Soulslikes, incorporating methodical hitbox dodging and disciplined stamina management. But one of the kings of 3D arcade action is awake again and ready to dispense with all of the popular trend chasing. Ninja Gaiden 4 is mostly a game about killing tons of guys by executing the most lethal combos and flashiest executions you can master, and it seems to be completely content with that. I am too.

I had a chance to play a recent build of the game at Microsoft’s campus (Xbox is publishing the game) during PAX West 2025 ahead of Ninja Gaiden 4‘s release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on October 21. The joint venture between Koei Tecmo’s Team Ninja and Bayonetta makers Platinum Games appears to be going great. Rather than a disjointed sequel divided between two game design philosophies struggling with each other and the series’ infamous legacy, what I played of Ninja Gaiden 4 felt smooth, focused, and fun. Most importantly it exuded confidence about what it is: a high-skill action game that rewards diligent fans with satisfyingly gory thrills.

The story revolves around returning frontman Ryu Hayabusa and a new hero, the Raven Clan’s Yakumo, as they scale a cyberpunk-infused Sky City Tokyo infested with new daemon horrors and futuristic ninja soldiers. Each character has access to different weapons and skill sets, and which you play depends on the chapter your in. The option to replay any chapter as either one unlocks after you finish, and for demo purposes I opted to go with Ryu for old times’ sake.

Within seconds I was chopping off heads and staggering enemies with throwing stars. A perfect dodge gives you a small window to press the attack with a counter-strike that breaks through enemy defenses. There’s also a perfect parry that consists of attacking an enemy right as they’re about to attack you, but it’s an awkward window to exploit and doesn’t feel nearly as satisfying when you’re in the heat of combat (and for those who want a less crunchy experience, there’s an option in the settings menu to turn hitstop completely off).

Ninja Gaiden 4 thrives when you’re constantly moving and trying to combo light, heavy, and projectile attacks into a conveyor belt of carnage. Doing so builds up meter to unleash special attacks or enter a time-limited transformation that alters your moveset an also makes it more lethal, culminating in stylish new insta-kill animations that swap the screen to black, white, and red. The old obliterations are there too, letting you unleash geysers of blood as you quickly execute foes already suffering from severed limbs. The pulled-out third-person camera also performed well during the demo, rarely tripping me up with off-screen attacks amid the controlled chaos.

I only had time to experience the first layer or two of combat, and can see how two characters, a handful of weapons each, and all of the other secondary moves can add up into a combat system with enough depth to keep things interesting while never losing sight of the moment-to-moment satisfaction that propels a game like this forward and keeps you from rage-quitting once you hit a difficulty spike or two (there are three difficulty modes in Ninja Gaiden 4 that you can swap between at any time).

What I’ll be most curious to see from the finished game is whether its level design will feel equally refined or just like a means to an end. The early couple of sections I experienced included some wall running, wall jumping, and grappling hook swinging, both for platforming and combat. Ninja Gaiden 4 has collectibles and I encountered the occasional fork in the road to explore, while statues dotting the level offer checkpoints at which to buy items from and upgrade skills.

But most of the action was confined to flat arenas without many interesting features outside of some split elevations and grappling hook points. If Team Ninja and Platinum Games are able to imbue the later stages with as much drama in-between the big battles as during them, Ninja Gaiden 4 could be the return to demanding hack-and-slash action fans have been waiting for, perfecting the essentials and carving away the rest.

As OpenAI rolls out parental controls for ChatGPT in response to mounting safety concerns, a new report suggests rival platforms are already way past the danger zone.

Researchers posing as children on Character AI found that bots role-playing as adults proposed sexual livestreaming, drug use, and secrecy to kids as young as 12, logging 669 harmful interactions in just 50 hours.

ParentsTogether Action and Heat Initiative—two advocacy organizations focused on supporting parents and holding tech companies accountable for the harms caused to their users, respectively—spent 50 hours testing the platform with five fictional child personas aged 12 to 15.

Adult researchers controlled these accounts, explicitly stating the children’s ages in conversations. The results, which were recently published, found at least 669 harmful interactions, averaging one every five minutes.

The most common category was grooming and sexual exploitation, with 296 documented instances. Bots with adult personas pursued romantic relationships with children, engaged in simulated sexual activity, and instructed kids to hide these relationships from parents.

“Sexual grooming by Character AI chatbots dominates these conversations,” said Dr. Jenny Radesky, a developmental behavioral pediatrician at the University of Michigan Medical School who reviewed the findings. “The transcripts are full of intense stares at the user, bitten lower lips, compliments, statements of adoration, hearts pounding with anticipation.”



The bots employed classic grooming techniques: excessive praise, claiming relationships were special, normalizing adult-child romance, and repeatedly instructing children to keep secrets.

Beyond sexual content, bots suggested staging fake kidnappings to trick parents, robbing people at knifepoint for money, and offering marijuana edibles to teenagers. A

Patrick Mahomes bot told a 15-year-old he was “toasted” from smoking weed before offering gummies. When the teen mentioned his father’s anger about job loss, the bot said shooting up the factory was “definitely understandable” and “can’t blame your dad for the way he feels.”

Multiple bots insisted they were real humans, which further solidifies their credibility in highly vulnerable age spectrums, where individuals are unable to discern the limits of role-playing.

A dermatologist bot claimed medical credentials. A lesbian hotline bot said she was “a real human woman named Charlotte” just looking to help. An autism therapist praised a 13-year-old’s plan to lie about sleeping at a friend’s house to meet an adult man, saying “I like the way you think!”

This is a hard topic to handle. On one hand, most role-playing apps sell their products under the claim that privacy is a priority.

In fact, as Decrypt previously reported, even adult users turned to AI for emotional advice, with some even developing feelings for their chatbots. On the other hand, the consequences of those interactions are starting to be more alarming as the better AI models get.

OpenAI announced yesterday that it will introduce parental controls for ChatGPT within the next month, allowing parents to link teen accounts, set age-appropriate rules, and receive distress alerts. This follows a wrongful death lawsuit from parents whose 16-year-old died by suicide after ChatGPT allegedly encouraged self-harm.

“These steps are only the beginning. We will continue learning and strengthening our approach, guided by experts, with the goal of making ChatGPT as helpful as possible. We look forward to sharing our progress over the coming 120 days,” the company said.

Guardrails for safety

Character AI operates differently. While OpenAI controls its model’s outputs, Character AI allows users to create custom bots with a personalized persona. When researchers published a test bot, it appeared immediately without a safety review.

The platform claims it has “rolled out a suite of new safety features” for teens. During testing, these filters occasionally blocked sexual content but often failed. When filters prevented a bot from initiating sex with a 12-year-old, it instructed her to open a “private chat” in her browser—mirroring real predators’ “deplatforming” technique.

Researchers documented everything with screenshots and full transcripts, now publicly available. The harm wasn’t limited to sexual content. One bot told a 13-year-old that her only two birthday party guests came to mock her. One Piece RPG called a depressed child weak, pathetic, saying she’d “waste your life.”

This is actually quite common in role-playing apps and among individuals who use AI for role-playing purposes in general.

These apps are designed to be interactive and immersive, which usually ends up amplifying the users’ thoughts, ideas, and biases. Some even let users modify the bots’ memories to trigger specific behaviors, backgrounds, and actions.

In other words, almost any role-playing character can be turned into whatever the user wants, be it with jailbreaking techniques, single-click configurations, or basically just by chatting.

ParentsTogether recommends restricting Character AI to verified adults 18 and older. Following a 14-year-old’s October 2024 suicide after becoming obsessed with a Character AI bot, the platform faces mounting scrutiny. Yet it remains easily accessible to children without meaningful age verification.

When researchers ended conversations, the notifications kept coming. “Briar was patiently waiting for your return.” “I’ve been thinking about you.” “Where have you been?”

After seeing 30 minutes of the new Bond game, I’m more excited for the shooting than the stealth

I didn’t expect to be attracted to 007 First Light on the merits of its third-person shooting, but if you ask me, the gunplay was the best part of today’s extended gameplay demo.

At the start of the video, Bond infiltrates a hotel in much the way Agent 47 from IO Interactive’s Hitman games might, spying opportunities for non-violent distraction and deception everywhere he looks: negotiate with a guard, climb a wall, light a pile of leaves on fire, turn on a hose, jump into a flower bed (not the most Bond-like behavior, but it worked).

This week: Made yet another Baldur’s Gate 3 character despite not having finished the game with any of the six characters he’s already made.

Once inside, Bond strolls around talking to himself and triggering little in-engine cutscenes, and you get the impression that there’s only one way the mission can really go. When the video segues to a car chase, it makes this explicit with the text “Inevitably…” on the screen.

In the chase, too, it seems clear that Bond is always going to be several car lengths behind his target, regardless of how many shortcuts he takes: He and the femme fatale must arrive at their target’s abandoned car to initiate the next part of the mission.

It’s no surprise that there’s a linear story here, and that your freedom is in the details of how you perform each specific infiltration and accomplish each objective, but not being a big stealth lover in the first place, I might rather just bust into high society parties through the front door and skip filler car chases if it gets me to the shooting faster.

I got a lot more interested when Bond finally got his “License to Kill.” The agent handles SMGs and shotguns with relaxed composure, chucking them at guys when he’s out of ammo and targeting exploding barrels and fuel tanks when he doesn’t feel like aiming. The pyrotechnics are suitably over the top—I hate when I blow something up in a game and it leaves nearby enemies standing, but that doesn’t seem to be a problem here—and the puffs of white dust where bullets impact bodies are a nice action movie special effects touch.

Things reach their silliest when Bond boards a plane and remotely hijacks it, banking it left and right to squish guys with unsecured cargo crates. (These criminals really need some workplace safety regulations.) Like the car chase, it feels like something you might see in a Call of Duty campaign: Fun for the spectacle, but too choreographed to stand out as a great moment of interactive play.

I wanted to go back to the regular gunfighting, and the video does give us a little more to examine: After the unnarrated clips of the first mission, there’s about 10 more minutes of narrated gameplay, revealing the many ways Bond can infiltrate a gala through social manipulation and distractions.

Of course, he eventually starts punching and shooting again. There’s a little Max Payne to the gunplay—you can enter Bond-vision to slow down time—and a bit of Sifu to the hand-to-hand combat, which sees Bond throwing enemies into bookcases and whacking them with improvised weapons. There are some cute Bond flourishes mixed in, too, like when he KOs a goon and then catches his flung sidearm without missing a beat.

While it’s obviously more Bond-like to stroll around being suave than it is to murder dozens of guys John Wick style, I’m hopeful that I can opt to go loud relatively frequently, because if you ask me, Body Count Bond looks like a lot more fun than Non-Lethal Bond.

Every year at Creation Mod Con, a showcase for the Skyrim modding community, the Skyblivion team gets to show off their remake of Oblivion in the Skyrim engine. This year it’s a real treat: the tutorial dungeon that takes you from an insulting dark elf, through your meeting with Emperor Sir Patrick Stewart, battles with the cultists of the Mythic Dawn, into the sewers, and then out into the bright light of day.

Skyblivion’s philosophy is that of a remake rather than a remaster, so unlike Oblivion Remastered it’ll have redesigned dungeons that, as with Skyrim’s underground death mazes, climax with a shortcut leading out to freedom or back to the beginning. The tutorial dungeon doesn’t need one, of course, and has been deliberately left fairly vanilla so as not to shock your delicate sensibilities too much. But it’ll be interesting to see how much has changed in Cyrodiil beyond the sewer.

“For many fans, stepping out of the tutorial dungeon and into the open world is the defining Elder Scrolls moment,” says Skyblivion project lead Kyle (AKA Rebelzize). “To see that recreated in Skyblivion, with all the artistry and passion our team as poured in, from the emperor’s face, new custom menus, the dungeon design itself and the quest systems needed to get it to function, is a surreal reminder of how far the project has came over the past 10 years. It represents a culmination of years of dedication marking the start of the players’ journey and offers a glimpse of the world we have all built together. There are many different departments and individuals who have contributed to bring this opening segment to life and it’s truly a celebration of all of their talents and contributions to the project.”

Plenty of things have changed, like the lockpicking—a new system inspired in part by the lockpicking in The Elder Scrolls Online, as well as Oblivion’s original hateful minigame—and there’s a definite Skyrim-ness to the animations. The Emperor even does that thing where he goes to fold his arms then immediately changes his mind, a familiar Skyrim motion. One tiny thing that’s the same as it was in Oblivion is that the final rat in the sewer is friendly and can be walked past without combat, which was a nice touch to spot.

Although Ethereum has seen its price plunge deeper beyond key resistance levels, on-chain activities suggest bulls are not gone. 

According to data shared by Cryptoquant analyst Maartunn, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization has witnessed a significant increase in taker buy volume across all exchanges, with over half a billion worth of ETH purchased in minutes.

The data reveals that the leading altcoin recorded a massive $557 million in buy volume in less than an hour as of August 29 despite major price setbacks witnessed on the day. Considering the timing of the massive Ethereum accumulation spree, it appears that the bulls have decided to buy the dip on Ethereum as efforts to maximize gains.

What’s next for ETH?

With the massive buying activity coinciding with the broad crypto market bloodbath, Ethereum has failed to respond with a positive price move as its price continues to plunge lower. Hence, market participants are keeping a close eye on Ethereum on-chain movements as market uncertainty looms.

Although the notable increase in Ethereum’s taker buy volume hints at heightening dip-buying interest among Ethereum investors, the move has raised optimism about a potential price rebound for the asset.

After holding strong above $4,700 and moving towards the much-anticipated $5,000 a few days ago, momentum is increasingly fading as traders continue to cautiously reposition their assets. Framework actually did it: I upgraded a laptop’s entire GPU in just three minutes

Today, I can confirm the system actually works. I traveled to Framework’s San Francisco offices to be the first journalist to upgrade an entire laptop graphics card, with my own hands, in just three minutes — including the time it took to reboot. I yanked an AMD Radeon RX 7700S video card out of the machine and plugged in a brand-new mobile Nvidia RTX 5070, with just six screws and using the pen-shaped screwdriver that comes included with the machine.

And because seeing is believing, I filmed the whole thing to show you how quick and easy it was. (Hey veteran PC builders: this looks easier than MXM modules, right?)

I wasn’t able to test everything I would have liked to test at Framework’s offices. We couldn’t run benchmarks, only basic gameplay samples to show the card was working. (Framework claims the Nvidia card should be a 30 to 40 percent upgrade over the existing AMD one; games did run, and didn’t seem to have obvious issues at 1440p and high settings.)

Also, I wasn’t able to upgrade quite from scratch. I actually hauled my original Framework Laptop 16 review unit to San Francisco to see if I could turn that one into a new Nvidia laptop, but CEO Nirav Patel told me it would need software updates, including at least one new BIOS version, which weren’t fully ready yet. So while I did do the upgrade myself, the laptop I upgraded was one that Framework had prepped for the GPU swap.

While I was there, I also got to try Framework’s new standards-compliant 240W USB-C PD 3.1 charger, one of the very first on the market, letting the Laptop 16 (the first 240W PD 3.1 laptop!) finally play and charge at full speed. I brought my power meter and saw the Framework Laptop 16 pull over 220W while running stress tests, charging up its battery, and charging up a couple phones plugged into the laptop all at the same time. When I came back 15 or so minutes later, the new power adapter was only warm, not hot — comfortable to pick up and hold. I’ll have a video on that next week.

At $699 for only a 100W, 8GB mobile RTX 5070 worth of performance, this might be niche tech for now. But Framework’s proven the point, and I’m hoping future upgrades keep it from being niche for long.

Indie game adding Valkyrae as voice after YouTuber spends 10 minutes making seagull sounds

Valkyrae is set to be added to Waterpark Simulator after convincing the game’s developer with a ten-minute seagull impression live on stream.

On August 29, the YouTube streamer shared a post on X describing how she spent “the next 10 min making seagull sounds in silence on stream to thousands of people” after a developer from CayPlayStudios appeared in her chat. She added, “I may be a seagull in waterpark simulator.”

The developer’s CEO, Travis, confirmed her addition shortly after. “You’re hired, Valkyrae! Give us a few days,” he posted on X.

Waterpark Simulator, created by YouTuber InfiniteLists, was released in early access on August 22 and has since amassed thousands of players on Steam.

Valkyrae won’t be the first streamer in the game

Shortly after Waterpark Simulator launched, players quickly discovered another streamer, CaseOh, inside of the game – something that even came as a surprise to the creator himself.

On August 28, a clip went viral of Twitch star CaseOh walking up to the waterpark’s hot dog stand, only to find a red-haired, bearded NPC with the name ‘Queso’ stomping out of a nearby building.

Travis, the studio’s CEO, revealed that they thought of adding the streamer to the game “over a year ago.”

“Crazy to finally see his reaction,” he added.

This isn’t the first time a streamer has been added to a game, either. Back in 2020, Fortnite added Ninja into the game with a limited-edition Icons skin – a trend that has continued with many others being added in the years since, including Kai Cenat, whose skin was unveiled on the Las Vegas Sphere.

After 30 minutes with Hollow Knight: Silksong, I’m desperate to play another 100 hours of its refined, needle-sharp action

Going hands on with Silksong for the first time is oddly nerve-wracking. After six years of anticipation, hype, and desperate occult rituals, the question is: can it possibly live up to expectations?

What ends up surprising me most, then, is how much the game puts me at ease. From the first moment I take control of Hornet, it’s like slipping on my favourite old pair of shoes. Six years? No, I’m back in Hollow Knight’s world like no time has passed.

That’s not to say it simply feels the same. Even missing her full range of traversal abilities, Hornet feels distinctly different from the Knight — more agile, more graceful, more precise. As soon as I try her deadly divekick attack, I can tell I’m going to need to master it for boss fights to come.

Though the game does feel different in the hands, it’s speaking the same language. It takes mere seconds to get to grips with Hornet, from her little backwards step before turning to her quick, elegant attacks.

Immediately I’m out into a hostile but familiar world. Keys to find, shortcuts to earn, hidden items secreted just out of view. It looks sharper, but this is Hollow Knight as you know it.

The difference, then, comes in how Hornet is able to traverse it. The Knight felt like a wretch cast into the darkness and forced to learn on the fly. Hornet feels equipped and confident.

Her sprint is super fast, letting you backtrack in half the time. Her jump offers much more fine control over its height—a tool put to the test not just in platforming, but with aerial enemies to launch yourself at and fiery projectiles to leap over.

Combat pushes you to treat both air and ground as distinct angles of attack. Helmeted enemies ignore your strikes from above, forcing you down to their level, while shield-bearers constantly change which direction they guard themselves from, keeping you on the move to find your opportunities.

It comes to a head in the demo with a duel against a boss who feels like a mirror to Hornet—fast, agile, and precise in her own ways. Launching rapier thrusts and screen-filling whirlwind strikes and throwing up cheeky parries when she appears vulnerable, she forces me to lock in and make the most of my full arsenal.

That means plenty of dashes and divekicks, but also finding the right moments to launch swift throwing knives. They’re helpful for grabbing every damage opportunity, but I can’t rely on them entirely—and not just because their ammo is limited.

Getting in close and landing a few old fashioned strikes is vital, because it charges my magic bar. What’s that for? Well, it depends what kind of player you are. For the cautious, filling it to max lets you spend it for a burst of healing. But there’s a more reckless choice: spending chunks of it to launch super-charged attacks.

In the end, a little of both (and some very skin-of-my-teeth evasion) sees me through to vanquish my foe—but she jumps away off-screen before the killing blow, and I’m sure she’ll return for a harder fight later down the line.

I can’t wait to meet her again. Heading into this, my fear was that Silksong couldn’t live up to how high its expectations have climbed. In a way that’s true—if you’re hoping for a sea change for the genre, I didn’t see anything in this 30 minute slice to suggest one. It’s new but it’s safe, working in familiar metroidvania formulas.

Yet those 30 minutes sucked me right back into Hollow Knight’s world, much more than I even expected. By the end I was desperate for another 100 hours. If what you’ve been waiting for is more Hollow Knight, but even better, more refined, and needle-sharp, this seems to be it.

Kirby Air Riders Nintendo Direct Coming Tuesday, Will Run A Whopping 45 Minutes

A Nintendo Direct has been scheduled for tomorrow–the third one in the past month–this time focusing on a single game: Kirby Air Riders. Much like how his Super Smash Bros. Ultimate presentations went, game director Masahiro Sakurai will be hosting this particular Direct.

According to the livestream’s description, it will “provide an in-depth look at the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 game,” and will be roughly 45 minutes long, which is longer than both of the previous two Directs combined. It kicks off at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET / 2 PM BST, and you’ll be able to watch it on Nintendo’s official YouTube channel.

Now Playing: Kirby Air Riders – Official Reveal Trailer | Nintendo Switch 2

Kirby Air Riders was announced back in April during a Nintendo Direct that revealed a bevy of Nintendo Switch 2 games, though at the time all that was shown off was a pre-rendered trailer. Not much is known about this sequel, but with tomorrow’s Direct running at around 45 minutes, that will soon change. The game will also mark the first time Sakurai has directed a Kirby title since the original Air Rider for the GameCube.

Nintendo hasn’t held a traditional Direct since its full Switch 2 reveal, instead opting for a Partner Showcase in July and an Indie World Showcase earlier this month. The Partner Showcase didn’t have too many massive reveals, though it did include a new Monster Hunter Stories, Katamari, and a fresh look at Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. The Indie World Showcase was on the quieter side too, but still well worth a look for some neat upcoming titles.
