How many roguelikes can you identify in two minutes? Our latest quiz is harder than a no-hit run

by admin October 4, 2025

The roguelike genre is one of my favourite ever. I love that it’s like a special sauce you can mix with countless other genres to create bold new flavours—from card games, to bullet hell, to survival, to RTS, and more.

That’s why I’ve put together a quiz testing my fellow fans on their knowledge of roguelikes. All you have to do is check out the screenshots, and type in the name of the game for each one—within a two minute time limit, naturally.

I had to make it difficult, of course—that’s only being faithful to the genre, right? Don’t worry, if you lose, you can always start again.

Before anyone rushes to the comments with a “Well, actually” in hand—we’re going by the broad, modern definition of roguelikes here. We don’t need to get into a debate about roguelikes vs roguelites, and we’re definitely taking it as read that the genre includes more than just decades-old turn-based dungeon crawlers. So be prepared for a wide variety of very different games below, testing your knowledge across the whole roguelike spectrum.

But do rush to the comments to let us know your scores! We want to know how you did—and which of the 20 games below is your favourite.

AI voice clones created in minutes now sound so real that your ears may never trust another voice again

by admin September 29, 2025

  • AI-generated voices now mimic humans so convincingly that detection is nearly impossible
  • Creating a convincing voice clone now takes minutes and minimal expertise
  • Some synthetic voices were actually rated more trustworthy than real human recordings

For years, many people assumed that AI-generated speech could always be identified by its slightly “fake” qualities.

New research from Queen Mary University of London challenges this assumption, showing current AI voice technology has reached a level where “voice clones” and deepfakes are nearly indistinguishable from real recordings.

In the study, participants compared human voices with two forms of synthetic audio: cloned voices designed to imitate real speakers and voices generated from an LLM system without specific counterparts.

Beyond realism and into dominance

Listeners frequently struggled to distinguish between the two, suggesting the technology has entered a phase where human-like realism is no longer an aspiration, but a reality.

The research team investigated not only whether participants could distinguish between synthetic and real voices, but also how they perceived them.

Surprisingly, both types of AI-generated voices were evaluated as more dominant than human ones, and in some cases, they were judged more trustworthy.

Dr. Nadine Lavan, Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Queen Mary University of London, stressed how easily and cheaply her team created these voice clones.

“AI-generated voices are all around us now, it was only a matter of time until AI technology began to produce naturalistic, human-sounding speech, the process required minimal expertise, only a few minutes of voice recordings, and almost no money,” she said.

She said that the ease of use shows how far the technology has advanced in a short time.

Such accessibility creates opportunities in fields such as education, communication, and accessibility, where bespoke synthetic voices could enhance engagement and reach.

Just as AI writers raise questions about originality, copyright, and misuse, AI voice generation prompts debates over ownership of identity and consent.

If realistic audio can be created from just a short sample, the risks of unauthorized cloning become difficult to ignore.

As AI tools continue to expand in capability and accessibility, the challenge will be ensuring that benefits are realized without opening new avenues for deception.

Understanding how people respond to these voices is only the first step in addressing the ethical, legal, and social implications of a technology that is no longer futuristic, but firmly present.

A screenshot from OD showing a scared person
Product Reviews

Kojima’s OD just got 3 minutes worth of in-engine footage, and it’s definitely following in the footsteps of P.T.

by admin September 23, 2025

OD – KNOCK Teaser Trailer – [ESRB] 4K – YouTube

Watch On

A new trailer for OD, embedded above, was shown today during a livestream celebrating the 10th anniversary of Kojima Productions. Xbox head Phil Spencer joined Hideo Kojima on stage to present the video, which shows in-engine footage from Unreal Engine 5.

The footage shows what could be the protagonist, played by Sophia Lillis, entering a morbid-looking room, and approaching a maudlin little table with an elaborate candle display. As they start to light the candles, weird, scary stuff starts to happen.

Kojima reiterated how the game will blur games and film, without going into any specifics on exactly how. Spencer’s comments were similarly unhelpful: he said that OD was innovating “in gameplay, story and player engagement”. Microsoft is offering technical support on the project.

Related articles

It certainly looks a lot like P.T. The sound design is deliciously oppressive, and the footage is mostly first-person. Kojima wouldn’t be drawn on how far into development the game is, so that’s completely up in the air for now.

OD will bear the subtitle Knock, which Kojima explained has everything to do with his fear of knocking (and I think P.T. bears that out). Despite the video’s focus on lighting candles, Kojima also insisted—via a translator—that it’s “not a game about lighting candles” and that “you’ll probably poo in your pants or whatever.”

Announced in 2023, OD will feature Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer and Udo Kier.

US XRP ETF Launch Rockets to $24 Million in First 90 Minutes

by admin September 18, 2025

Trading has officially opened for the first U.S. exchange-traded fund offering direct exposure to XRP. Listed on the CBOE under the ticker XRPR, the Osprey REX fund began trading at $25.80 against a net asset value of $25, starting small in scale but setting an important precedent.

With initial assets of $625,000 and 25,000 shares outstanding, the fund provides regulated exposure to one of the world’s most widely traded digital assets via a standard brokerage account.

SEMI-SHOCK: Rex XRP ETF $XRPP is already at $24m in volume. That is way more than I would have thought. For context it’s 5x more than any of the XRP futures ETFs did on Day One and it’s only been 90min. pic.twitter.com/DKIDD6noZF

— Eric Balchunas (@EricBalchunas) September 18, 2025

XRPR holdings are split between CME’s CF XRP-Dollar Reference Rate (59%), CoinShares’ Physical XRP product (39%) and a small cash balance. This means that shares trade in the $25-$26 range rather than reflecting XRP’s price of $3.11 directly on crypto exchanges.

While the design did not surprise many on launch day, the volume did. Within just 90 minutes of trading, XRPR cleared $24 million in turnover, a figure five times higher than that achieved by any XRP futures-based ETF on its entire first day.

What’s up with Dogecoin ETF DOJE?

Also sharing the stage is DOJE, the first U.S. Dogecoin ETF, which has also outperformed expectations. Bloomberg’s Eric Balchunas reported nearly $6 million in volume in the first hour, an extraordinary figure given that most ETFs struggle to exceed $1 million on day one.

Prices fluctuated between $27.11 and $26.43, while spot DOGE was trading at $0.282 on Binance.

The message from day one is clear: even without the support of Wall Street giants such as BlackRock, Osprey’s crypto ETFs have found buyers. XRP now has its first U.S. ETF representation, and Dogecoin has jumped from meme status to that of a regulated product — both achieving this with more force than anyone predicted.

Here’s a game where you have to end parallel worlds that only takes 10 minutes to beat for “busy working adults”

by admin September 18, 2025

There is nothing inherently awful in a game being obscenely long, in fact it can be quite pleasurable to get to know a digital world so intimately. The issue is that I am an “adult” who has to “work” to pay my “bills” and “taxes,” so I don’t always have time for such things. How some of you manage to fit in multiple playthroughs of Persona games will always be an enigma to me. But, as I sit here in my despair, along comes 34EVERLAST, a game designed to be beaten in “as little as 10 minutes,” expressly designed for “busy working adults.”

34EVERLAST, according to its Steam page description, is an action puzzle game about the world ending, which I’m going to be incredibly real with you all for the moment, sounds like a very heavy topic for a game where you can beat it in 10 minutes. However! The way you apparently survive this is by ending the “‘worlds that refuse to die’ that are parallel to this world.” Not any lighter or smaller a concept, potentially compelling though.

Watch on YouTube

Gameplay works twofold. In the first instance, it’s a 3D action game, looking a little bit PlatinumGamesy in nature. You run, fall, and fight through various worlds on the brink of collapse, with what looks like some visual novel stroke manga elements mixed in for the story. There are also some puzzle elements, though how these manifest isn’t quite as clear.

As condensed as it is, conceptually I quite like some of the design choices it claims to make. The Steam page says that if you make it rain in one world, a desert in another might turn into a forest. You can die in boss fights on purpose too, to potentially “gain an advantage against another.” A smally, flashy package, yet one that, if successful, may have a good bit of substance to it.

While I am intrigued by the concept, it does also raise a bigger, perhaps more personally existential question about life. What are the reasons that we have so little time for hobbies we so greatly enjoy? I could probably name a few, but that’d be going into feature territory. I somewhat hope 34EVERLAST takes such a question into consideration in its story, rather than the 10 minute thing just being a bit of a gimmick.

There’s no exact release date for 34EVERLAST just yet, but it was confirmed by publisher Playism that it’s due out sometime in 2026. You can wishlist it on Steam now.

Montage of three wireless video doorbells
Gaming Gear

I’m a smart home tech editor, and these are the 3 best wireless video doorbells that you can install in minutes

by admin September 15, 2025

Wireless video doorbells have come a long way in recent years, and many of the latest models offer super-high resolution footage, smart object detection, and extra-long battery life. They’re incredibly easy to install as well; just screw the mount to your doorframe (or stick it up using 3M tape in some cases), clip on the doorbell, and you’re ready to get going.

Not all wireless doorbells are made equal, though. Some are trickier than others to set up, some suffer from significant lag when you’re talking to a caller, and some have their best features locked behind an expensive paywall. That’s why I’ve put together this list of the three best wireless doorbells that deliver great performance and offer good value for money.

If you live in the UK, I also recommend checking out the Philips 7000 Series Video Doorbell, which can be used wirelessly and has a huge 8GB internal storage for your clips, and the super accessible Doro Hemma, which is ideal for anyone who wants to keep home security as simple as possible. Both of these are superb wireless doorbells, but aren’t currently available in the US or Australia.

If I was looking for a new wireless video doorbell for my own home, this is the one I’d choose. Not only does it capture crisp 2K video, it has dual lenses that allow it to capture great images of packages left at your door, as well as visitors calling. No more worrying about falling victim to a porch pirate.

Speaking of deliveries, the EZVIZ EP3x Pro can detect and identify both packages and people, and give you specific alerts – an extremely handy feature that with most other brands would only be available for a monthly fee, but is included free here. There’s also 32GB built-in storage, which means you don’t have to pay to store your clips online, and you’re always in control of them. During testing we really appreciated the way your clips are listed in the app, which makes it simple to find and replay a specific moment.

If all that’s not enough, the EP3x Pro also comes with an angled solar panel that dramatically extends its battery life, so it’ll keep running for longer without recharging.

There are a few limitations. It’s pretty chunky for a video doorbell, and we found that its app wasn’t always the easiest to use, but its feature set is hard to beat and it’s dropped in price significantly since its launch, making it a bargain.

Swann makes some of the best home security cameras we’ve tested here at TechRadar, and its video doorbells are superb too. The SwannBuddy4K is a particularly good example. Not only can it be used wirelessly, it also has one of the best cameras of any doorbell on the market, so you’ll never miss a detail.

When it first launched, one feature that particularly piqued my interest was the SwannBuddy4K’s ability to use AI to generate custom responses to visitors, with different tones of voice depending on how friendly (or not) you want it to be. In practice though, it was the super-sharp video quality that really impressed us here.

The ability to use the SwannBuddy4K subscription-free is also a real boon. Your videos are stored on an internal SD card, so you don’t have to pay a monthly fee to save them in the cloud for access later.

When we first reviewed this doorbell we thought it was a little on the expensive side, but its price has dropped significantly since then. When you factor in the lack of subscription fees, it becomes great value.

Ring Battery Doorbell Plus

Image 1 of 3

(Image credit: Future)(Image credit: Future)(Image credit: Future)

Ring is the biggest name in video doorbells, and it’s easy to see why – its devices are easy to install, simple to use, and work seamlessly with Amazon Alexa devices. The Ring Battery Doorbell Plus is one of its best models, with an impressive field of view (150 x 150 degrees) that allows you to see visitors from head to foot, plus any packages they leave at your door, plus a higher video resolution than your typical Ring doorbell.

It’s a piece of cake to install, and like the two models above, it can run from a rechargeable battery or be connected to existing doorbell wiring. The battery is removable, so unlike some other wireless doorbells, you don’t need to take down the whole unit when it needs more power.

During our tests we found the customizable motion-detection zones particularly useful, and appreciated the ability to set privacy areas so we wouldn’t be notified of movement on a neighbor’s property or a sidewalk.

The biggest downside of this doorbell (and any other Ring doorbell) is that you’ll need a Ring Home subscription to get the most out of it. The membership plan isn’t, strictly speaking, mandatory, but without it you’ll only be able to watch video live from your doorbell’s camera – it won’t be saved anywhere so you can watch it back later. You also won’t be able to receive doorbell alerts as calls to your phone, or get specific person, package, and vehicle alerts. For more details, see our complete guide to Ring subscriptions.

Monero’s ‘Largest’ Reorg Yet Erases 36 Minutes of Transaction History

by admin September 15, 2025

In brief

  • The network reorganized 18 blocks and invalidated 118 transfers in its deepest rollback yet.
  • Observers linked the event to Qubic’s withheld mining and potential majority hash control.
  • The incident follows Qubic’s attempts last month to do a 51% attack on the network.

Monero has shrugged off its biggest chain rollback in its 12-year history.

The network reorganized 18 blocks, erasing 36 minutes of transaction history and invalidating 118 transfers, according to independent monitors disclosing the incident Saturday.

The native token belonging to the Monero blockchain, XMR, has been little impacted, with it rising more than 5% on the day. It is up nearly 12% on the week to $302.54, CoinGecko data shows.

Recently, an 18-block re-org occurred on Monero’s mainnet. You can check this by inputting alt_chain_info into your monerod console if your node was operating during the re-org:

18 blocks long, from height 3499659 (437 deep), diff 510191663980291508:…

— Monero Research Lab (Unofficial) (@MoneroResearchL) September 14, 2025

“This is the largest reorg Monero has ever seen,” an XMR community podcaster known as Xenu wrote on X, adding that the event shattered the old rule of thumb that ten confirmations were enough to consider a transaction final.

The rollback occurred between September 14 and 15 at block height 3,499,659, when mining pool Qubic released a hidden chain that overtook the main network. Xenu later claimed that Qubic had mined in isolation “because of selfish mining, even after all their reorgs.”

Representatives for Monero’s open-sourcing project and Qubic did not immediately return Decrypt’s request for comment.

Selfish mining is when a miner withholds blocks they find and later publishes a longer chain that rewrites recent transactions. The tactic takes advantage of proof-of-work rules that reward cumulative work without distinguishing between steady contributions and privately hoarded blocks.

Under Monero’s proof-of-work rules, the longest valid chain is considered the “real” history, so nodes immediately switch over.

In the latest case, Qubic’s withheld chain grew longer than the public one. When it was released, nodes automatically accepted it as the valid history, forcing the network to discard the previous 18 blocks and the 118 transactions they contained.

The move effectively erased more than half an hour of Monero’s recent activity, even though other miners had already confirmed those payments. The reorg also demonstrated that ten confirmations did not provide adequate assurance, leading exchanges to extend their requirements.

Last month, Qubic attempteda 51% attack on Monero as it developed ways to “experiment” and “help” guard the network against future attacks.

A 51% attack happens when someone controls more than half of a blockchain’s computer power and can change how new transactions are recorded, block or reverse them, and potentially spend coins twice (double-spend).

While that attempt was questioned, some community estimates at the time suggested it may have briefly reached majority control.

Payments once considered final were erased, pointing to how concentrated mining power threatens the network. Some users said they would stop accepting Monero until stability returns, while others urged miners to move to smaller pools.

$1.2 Billion in Solana Moved in Mere Minutes, What’s Happening?

by admin September 12, 2025

Solana has seen dramatic moves among whales in the last hour as the token continues to trend upwards today.

As enthusiasm appears to be returning to the crypto market, on-chain tracking firm Whale Alert has spotted Solana whales pulling large amounts of SOL from the leading U.S. crypto exchange on September 11.

According to data provided by the source, Solana has recorded a series of high-volume transfers in the last hour, seeing over $1.2 billion worth of Solana being moved among large holders.

More specifically, the transfers happened in a series of 7 separate transactions, each seeing hundreds of thousands of SOL tokens move between Coinbase Institutional and different unknown wallets.

Solana whales resurge with billion dollar moves

Among the pack of high-volume SOL transfers witnessed during the period, the largest of them all involved 1,756,934 SOL worth $398.84 million being mysteriously exchanged among two unknown wallets.

While the transaction did not involve the service of any crypto exchange, it is difficult to tell if the move was an attempt to buy or sell the tokens, pointing to a possible internal reshuffling of assets by large holders.

On the other hand, the smallest of the moves happened in two repeated identical transfers of 439,233 SOL worth $99.2 million each. Each of these transfers was pulled from the leading U.S. crypto exchange, signaling major buy activities from high-profile investors or institutions.

Other transactions involved 999,999 SOL worth $225.68 million moved from an unknown wallet to Coinbase Institutional, 755,934 SOL worth $171.20 million transferred back from an unknown wallet to Coinbase Institutional, and 505,935 SOL worth $114.70 million moved among two unknown wallets.

While the move appears bullish for the Solana ecosystem, the repeated major activities which happened in dramatic consecutive order signal heightening interest from institutional investors or high-profile entities holding large amounts of SOL.

With these bullish moves coinciding with the broad crypto market rebound, market watchers are keeping a close eye on SOL price action as they remain optimistic that the large whale transfers could sustain the ongoing rally, pushing Solana’s price beyond expected highs.

While we’re struggling with Hollow Knight: Silksong, speedrunners are beating it in under 90 minutes

by admin September 11, 2025

There’s plenty of debate online around the difficulty of Hollow Knight: Silksong, but while most of us are struggling, speedrunners have already beaten the game in under 90 minutes mere days after release.

The record is moving fast, literally! Yesterday, YouTuber Onaku managed a Silksong any% speedrun in 1:46:47, but hours later YouTuber BlueSR managed a run in 1:26:20. What’s more, the speedrunner will be aiming for an even quicker World Record time today.

I’ve linked to the runs of both speedrunners above, but of course these will be full of spoilers for anyone still back in the early game. Or perhaps you’re keen to check out some expert strategies.

Hollow Knight: Silksong – Release TrailerWatch on YouTube

The official speedrunning leaderboard won’t open until 1st October, at which point we’ll have a firm idea of the World Record time and the official rules. Until then, speedrunners will be rapidly sharing their times on social media.

Judging by the game’s achievements, it’s possible to achieve 100 percent game completion in under 30 hours, but there’s also an achievement for completing the game in under five hours (aptly named “Speedrunner”). So even if a run of just over an hour isn’t achievable for you, those looking to gain all achievements will still need to complete an exceptionally fast run.

For comparison, the current World Record for the original Hollow Knight sits at just over 30 minutes!

If, like the rest of us, you’re struggling with Silksong, check out our Hollow Knight: Silksong walkthrough to help get you through.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.
