Minecraft Server Guide – Best Minecraft Servers, Hosting, And How To Create

by admin June 23, 2025

There are literally thousands of Minecraft servers to join right now. Whether you want a friendly community playing the vanilla Minecraft experience, a modded server with hundreds of new discoveries to be made, or even a themed server like Pixelmon, which has cute Pokémon additions, there’s something out there for everyone. It’s not always the most straightforward process to find the right server for you, though, so we’ve got you covered. Whether you play on Java or Bedrock, and no matter your platform of choice, our list of the best Minecraft servers will send you in the right direction.

If none of the below are your style, keep scrolling to discover how to make your own Minecraft server, as well as information on all of the best Minecraft hosting providers and a transparent view at each of their costs.

Best Minecraft servers in 2025

Complex Gaming server entrance

Complex Gaming

  • Java IP address: hub.mc-complex.com
  • Bedrock port: 19132

The Complex Gaming server is one of the most popular to join right now thanks to its vast array of modes including survival, PvP, skyblock, prison, and Pixelmon versions. Some of the modes rely on installing Minecraft mods, but these are helpfully bundled into Complex’s own modpack meaning they can be added in just a few clicks.

CraftersHQ entrance

CraftersHQ

  • Java IP address: craftershq.net
  • Bedrock port: 25565

Crafters features lifesteal and survival modes, and is best experienced by accepting the prompt to install the custom resource pack when you first join the game. PvP is enabled if your inventory is empty, meaning no one can come along and steal your hard-earned loot. Joining the server at first might seem overwhelming due to the number of options in front of you, but once you’ve selected a role and claimed your land using the golden shovel, the community is very welcoming and happy to help.

OPLegends’ mining areas

OPLegends

  • Java IP address: play.oplegends.com

OPLegends is one of the few crossplay Minecraft servers out there, meaning you can link up with friends on different platforms for a custom experience. It also works across both Java and Bedrock editions as an added bonus. The server highlight is easily its prison mode, with new maps added often, themed events and activities, and even a prison in space.

Ranch n’ Craft’s main hub

Ranch n’ Craft

  • Java IP address: mc.ranchncraft.com

This equestrian-themed survival server focuses on, well, horses. Unlike in the vanilla game, horses in Ranch n’ Craft have skills that can be leveled up. You’ll also become accustomed with horses’ traits and personalities, breeding, foals, rescuing, competing in shows and events, and even visiting the vet. You’ll need to install the custom plugin to access all of the new horse abilities, but the satisfaction of training and selling a prize equine is worth the extra step.

Hypixel

Hypixel

  • Java IP address: mc.hypixel.net

The Hypixel server is easily the biggest and most famous Minecraft server out there. It’s even been awarded Guinness World Records for being the most popular Minecraft server as well as hosting the most games. Hypixel contains a vast array of modes, minigames, and receives regular updates and content drops. If you’re looking for one Minecraft server that can do it all, Hypixel is your best option.

DonutSMP

Donut SMP

  • Java IP address: donutsmp.net
  • Bedrock port: 19132

On the Donut SMP server, the focus is on becoming the player with the most money, but that’s about the only rule in existence. You can kill, grief, and steal from other players–in fact, it’s almost necessary. If you fall victim to another player or die to any of the world’s mobs, there’s a countdown timer before you can rejoin. The few rules in existence are there to ensure it remains a fair experience for everyone involved–no hacking, basically. It’s more aligned to the vanilla Minecraft experience, with emphasis on survival mechanics especially against other players. Watch your back.

Entering the Mystic server

Mystic

  • Java IP address: join.mysticmc.co
  • Bedrock port: 19132

Mystic is a semi-vanilla Minecraft server with three realms to choose from–Arcane, Cosmic, and Elysium. You’ll start your adventure equipped with starter armor and tools, food, and a claim stick and shovel. Here, you can find a suitable place for your new home and claim the land, meaning other players won’t be able to harvest anything or take things from your chests. The server primarily focuses on economy, and you can earn money, claim blocks, and more from just playing the game as normal. The best part of all? You won’t lose your inventory on death.

The blossom trees and water wheel of Blossomcraft

Blossomcraft

  • Java IP address: play.BlossomCraft.org
  • Bedrock port: 19132

If you prefer your Minecraft chilled, pretty, and focused on economy, try Blossomcraft. This cute server has four worlds you can join–Cherry, Spirit, Lotus, and Tulip. Each one has its own map, and you can claim an area of the map for your own build as soon as you join. There are new, extremely difficult dungeons being added to the game, which grant high rewards but come at a huge risk if you like a challenge.

The Mineville server entry area

Mineville

Mineville is one of the rare servers on our list that isn’t available in Java Edition. Instead, it’s one of the five featured servers on Bedrock, and you can access it directly through the in-game menu. It features a regularly rotated selection of game modes, including dungeons, cities, prisons, and even high school settings. It follows an RPG-like storyline with quests and ample opportunities for socializing. If you’re not into the RPG elements, you can still use their other modes like Skyblock, which drops you on a small island in the sky with limited resources, where you’ll have to figure out how to expand and thrive.

Sandlot server hub area

The Sandlot

  • Java IP: server.sandlotminecraft.com
  • Bedrock port: 19132

This Minecraft server was set up by a parent and former teacher way back in 2011 to create a safe space for children to play Minecraft. The rules reflect this, strictly forbidding the sharing of personal information including your real name, school, address, telephone number, and more. It warns against the potential dangers of Minecraft Realms and parents’ inability to ensure these are safe spaces for children. No other servers can be mentioned, nor can usernames, gamertags, or any outside information at all. The strict chat filter ensures no accidental profanities can slip through, too. Outside of the safety features, the game modes include survival, a modified “easy” survival mode with jobs and shopping, creative, PvP, and loads of minigames.

Badwolf server entry

Badwolf MC

  • Java IP: play.badwolfmc.com
  • Bedrock port: 19132

On the opposite side of the spectrum, Badwolf MC is only permitted for over 18s. The usual server rules apply, and there’s certainly not any form of adult content despite the 18-plus rule. It’s just a server for adults to play and form connections without children around. Badwolf aims to be a “laid back and drama-free place to unwind” and from our time in the server, it certainly achieves that. Head here if you want a no frills, fun experience.

The Advancius server logo

Advancius Network

  • Java IP: mc.advancius.net
  • Bedrock port: 19132

The Advancius Network is one of the rarer servers in that it is absolutely free to play, without purchasable ranks, items, chest keys, or other content. The only way to rank up and earn rewards is by playing the game, earning XP, and doing it well. Advancius is a larger server, holding up to 400 players, but it holds regular events to welcome new players which are well worth joining in on.

How to host a Minecraft server

Hosting a Minecraft server requires altering the configuration of your home network. We’d recommend that you’re very comfortable with this before proceeding. If you want to host a smaller server for friends only, we’d recommend the Minecraft Realms feature, which comes at a small monthly cost.

To host your own Minecraft server:

  • Download the Java server from the official Minecraft website
  • Make a folder on your desktop to keep server files in
  • Copy and paste the “minecraft_server.1.XX.X.jar” file into the folder (The Xs will refer to the current game version number)
  • With the file browser open, open command prompt via the Start menu
  • Type “java -version” and execute the command to check if Java is installed there properly
  • Change the directory to the location of your server folder and the .jar file
  • You can find this by clicking the browser directory in the file browser
  • Copy that to your clipboard and type “cd” then a space and then paste the address of the folder location
  • Type “Java -jar “name of your jar”.jar” and execute the command
  • You should notice a failed to load properties and failed to load eula error
  • In the server folder, open the “eula.txt” file that has been created
  • Set eula=false to eula=true and save it
  • Open the “server.properties” file in your text editor software
  • Note the “query.port” setting
  • Set the “gamemode” setting to the Minecraft game mode you want for the server
  • Set your preferences for “allow-nether,” “difficulty,” “pvp,” “max-players,” and “level seed”
  • “Motd” sets the message in the Minecraft server browser that other players see when adding it to their server lists
  • Rerun the launch command in the command prompt and the server will be live

You will also need to forward the port you noted down earlier. By default, it is 25565, so you will need to enter your router settings to specify that port to forward. This will differ depending on the router you use, and if further help is needed you will need to consult your router manufacturer’s help site or manual.

If you didn’t specify anything in the “server-ip” setting, the IP will be your own public IP. Other players will need this to connect to the server. You can find this by searching “What is my public IP?” on any search engine, and noting down the IP address that is IPv4. It will have three decimal points and only contain numbers.

We’d recommend not sharing this with the public, and only giving it to people you trust. Giving out your public IP can pose a security risk to your home network.

There are other, easier ways to host Minecraft servers using providers such as Shockbyte, ScalaCube, Minefort, and more. It’s personal preference which of these you use, and they have varying pricing models.

Now that you know which are the best Minecraft servers to join, and how to host your own server, check out our Minecraft guides hub for more helpful tips.

Minecraft Lodestones Guide - How To Craft And Use Lodestones

Minecraft Lodestones Guide – How To Craft And Use Lodestones

by admin June 23, 2025

Easily one of the most useful items in Minecraft is the compass. Crafting one will point to your world spawn point, helping out if you find yourself lost during your adventures in the survival game.

However, compasses become obsolete if your base isn’t anywhere near the world spawn point. Sure, you can use Minecraft console commands to change the spawn point if you’re the Minecraft server owner, or have admin permissions, but if that does not apply to you, you’ll want to learn about how lodestones can alter the direction a compass points. That’s where we come in.

A lodestone in the overworld

Lodestones alter the place that your compass points to. It can also be used in the Nether, the End, and the overworld, whereas compasses only usually work in the overworld. Lodestones in the real world are naturally-occurring magnets, and rare to find.

How to find a lodestone

You can find lodestones in chests in bastion remnants, but you can also craft them. To create your own, place one iron ingot in the center of your crafting table, surrounded by chiseled stone bricks. It used to be more expensive to craft a lodestone, as instead of one iron ingot, a netherite ingot was required.

How to use a lodestone

Once you have your lodestone block, place it on the ground where you want the compass to point towards, take out your compass, and use it on the block. The compass will get the same sheen as enchanted armor gets, so you’ll know whether it’s worked or not.

If the lodestone is broken or in a different dimension than the compass, the compass will randomly spin. If the lodestone is destroyed while its paired compass is in a chest or storage item, then the compass will not register that the lodestone is destroyed until it is retrieved. Placing a lodestone back in the exact place as the original lodestone will prevent unpairing in this situation.

How To Allocate More RAM To Minecraft

How To Allocate More RAM To Minecraft

by admin June 23, 2025

If you’re regularly playing Minecraft on PC, you’ve probably amassed a pretty huge base with a lot going on, you might be using Minecraft mods, or perhaps you’re on a server with lots of others. All of these things can contribute to slowdown issues, especially when you’re traversing the world and new chunks are being loaded. To fix that, you’ll want to know how to allocate more RAM to Minecraft.

It’s important to note initially that, thanks to the many Minecraft Java vs Bedrock differences, this only applies to the Java edition of the game. You can’t allocate more RAM in Bedrock.

Why allocate more RAM

Allocating more RAM to Minecraft will improve your game’s performance, especially when using mods or playing on a large server. The bigger the world, the more memory your PC needs to run it smoothly. If you don’t do it properly, allocating more RAM can slow down your PC overall, as it needs to maintain enough to run your other programs at the same time.

How much RAM?

The amount of memory your PC needs to smoothly run Minecraft depends on the way you play, and how much RAM your PC has overall. If you’re playing vanilla, the sweet spot is usually 3-5GB. If you’re playing with mods, it’s more like 5-7GB, depending on how many mods you’re using. The more mods you have, the more memory your PC uses.

Your game could run smoother with more RAM allocated.

How to check how much RAM is allocated to Minecraft

When in-game, press F3 to open the overlay, which shows all of your details, including your Minecraft coordinates. In the top corner on the right, you’ll see the “Mem:” section. Ideally, you want the percentage that follows this to fluctuate from 20% to 40%. The number that follows it shows how much RAM is currently allocated to Minecraft.

How to allocate more RAM to Minecraft

You will need to know the total amount of RAM in your PC. When you’ve got that, open the Minecraft Launcher and select Java edition. Then select the Installations tab on the top menu bar. Find the release you’re playing in the list and click the “…” button, and then choose “Edit.”

On the Edit Installation page, press “More Options” and then locate the JVM arguments text box. Click the area that begins “-Xm2G-” and change the “2” to the amount of RAM you want to allocate in GB. Take into account how much RAM your PC has and don’t allocate too much here.

If you’re playing with mods, you’ll need to use the appropriate mod launcher to adjust this value. In Curseforge, this can be found in the Minecraft menu under Java Settings, where you can change the allocated memory using a slider.

Now that you know how to allocate more RAM to Minecraft, check out our Minecraft guides hub for more helpful tips.

Minecraft players warned of mods stealing passwords & personal data

by admin June 20, 2025

A new Minecraft report has highlighted a “malicious” campaign that targets mods to steal all sorts of personal information.

There’s a reason why the Minecraft community is still thriving nowadays, despite the game being over a decade old. With creative freedom, there’s just so much you can do. Not to mention, installing mods can help make the experience even more exciting as they provide more depth to the gameplay.

While that’s the case, however, players should take extra caution when it comes to downloading mods. As investigated by Check Point Research, there’s been a large-scale, malicious campaign that targets Minecraft mods, which can lead to whoever installs these getting their Windows devices infected.

Article continues after ad

Once that happens, they could risk getting their credentials, authentication tokens, cryptocurrency wallets, and other important data stolen.

Minecraft players risk getting their personal data stolen from fake mods

Check Point Research’s discovery highlights “malicious repositories distributing malware” conducted by the Stargazers Ghost Network, which uses the Minecraft modding system as well as GitHub to reach a large audience of victims.

Article continues after ad

According to the report, the malware distributed impersonated “Oringo and Taunahi”, which are scripts or cheats. Both the first and second stages are developed in Java and can only be executed if the Minecraft runtime is installed on the host machine,” they explained.

Article continues after ad

MojangMods let you be creative with your builds in-game, but they can also be dangerous.

These files would then pull off a “multi-stage attack” to compromise systems and steal personal data from victims.

Check Point Research has also been working since March 2025 to track these “malicious GitHub repositories.” These would not only appear “legitimate,” but they would also be “undetected by all antivirus engines across VirusTotal, as it is highly targeted for Minecraft users.”

So, what happens in the worst-case scenario, assuming that these end up running in one’s system? Their report provided a long list of all the data that could be stolen ranging from browser logins, cryptocurrency wallets, private messages through Discord, and so much more.

Minecraft now has a photo mode with Vibrant Memories

Minecraft now has a photo mode with Vibrant Memories

by admin June 18, 2025

Photo modes are a pretty common feature for video games where players go bounding around an interesting open world. Today, Minecraft joined their ranks, making an in-game camera available in the Minecraft Marketplace as a free add-on called Vibrant Memories. The feature requires a copy of Minecraft’s Bedrock Edition on any platform; the Java version doesn’t appear to support the camera.

As well as capturing the moment as-is and saving particular camera angles to reuse later, Vibrant Memories will let a player decide whether or not to appear in the image. It will also let them set whether the weather is sunny or rainy and if the time is sunrise, sunset, day or night.

That’s a pared-back take on photo mode, but then in many ways, Minecraft is a pared-back game. Sure, it’s gotten loads of new features and creatures over the past 15 years, but at heart, it’s just about mining and crafting.

A Minecraft Movie streams rides its Chicken Jockey to Max next week

by admin June 15, 2025

A Minecraft Movie follows four everyday misfits — newly orphaned siblings Henry (Sebastian Hansen) and Natalie (Emma Myers), down-on-his-luck ’80s arcade champion Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Jason Momoa), and real-estate hustler Dawn (Danielle Brooks) — as they’re pulled into the pixelated world of Minecraft. The group must learn to survive the imaginative terrain of the Overworld, face off against hostile mobs like Piglins and zombies, and team up with an expert builder named Steve (Jack Black) to find their way home.

A Minecraft Movie lands on Max June 20, with its HBO linear premiere airing the next night, Saturday, June 21 at 8 p.m. ET. An American Sign Language (ASL) version of the film will also be available exclusively on Max on the same day.

A Minecraft Movie is coming exclusively to HBO Max on June 20

by admin June 13, 2025

Don’t throw all your popcorn at the screen, but A Minecraft Movie begins streaming exclusively on HBO Max (which used to be Max, which used to be HBO Max) on June 20. The big studio adaptation of the best-selling video game of all time was something of a surprise hit for those unfamiliar with the game’s mammoth audience.

Movie adaptations of video games can be really hit or miss. The Super Mario Bros. Movie set the box office record for the highest-grossing video game movie of all time and was a fun, if safe, movie. On the other end of that spectrum is Borderlands, which was a massive letdown and a box-office failure. With that spotty track record, we were pleasantly surprised when A Minecraft Movie turned out to be…pretty good, actually.

The movie stars Jack Black as Steve, the original player character from the video game, who ends up transported into the voxel world of Minecraft, while Jason Momoa stars as an egomaniacal former gaming superstar. The movie will also debut on the HBO linear cable channel on Saturday, June 21, at 8PM ET.

Minecraft Trading Card Boxes With Exclusive Inserts Are Up For Grabs At Amazon

Minecraft Trading Card Boxes With Exclusive Inserts Are Up For Grabs At Amazon

by admin June 1, 2025

Trading card manufacturer Panini has been making official card sets for Minecraft for a few years now, but its latest collection is garnering more attention from Minecraft fans than earlier releases. Most major retailers are either sold out of 2024 Minecraft Trading Card products or limit sales to brick-and-mortar stores. But you don’t need to browse the trading card sections at Walmart or GameStop, because Amazon just stocked Panini’s two major Minecraft card boxes sold in retail stores. These might not be available for very long once more people find them, but as of May 30, you can get Minecraft Blaster Boxes for $15 and Minecraft Trading Card Mega Boxes for $35.

The 2024 Minecraft Trading Card set features over 200 cards, including rare inserts celebrating the franchise’s 15th anniversary, and foil cards that are exclusive to the Blaster and Mega Boxes that Amazon just stocked.

$15

The Blaster Box comes with six booster packs containing six cards each, so you’re getting 36 Minecraft cards for 15 bucks. Panini says the average Blaster Box comes with one Cubic Parallel card per pack. Parallel cards are exclusive to the Blaster and Mega Boxes, which are only sold at select retailers.

Beyond the Cubic Parallel exclusives, you can find Stone Parallels (matte or glossy) and an assortment of increasingly rare numbered pulls: Iron Foil (475), Silver Foil (149), Gold Foil (99), Gold Prizm (49), Opti-Chrome (10), and a numbered 1/1 card if you’re really, really lucky.

In total, the 2024 set includes 221 base cards. The cards feature character art as well as mobs and noteworthy items from the video game. There are 25 bonus cards described as “rare inserts,” including 15 Milestone cards commemorating Minecraft’s 15th anniversary (which was in 2024) and 10 Color Blast cards with flashy art.

$35

Panini’s 2024 Minecraft Mega Box contains 12 booster packs with six cards each. Just like the Blaster Boxes, Mega Boxes have exclusive Cubic Parallel cards. On average, you’ll find 12 Parallel cards, and Panini says one of those cards is likely to be numbered. This fact has likely contributed to stock shortages at retailers.

Booster packs in Mega Boxes are the same as the ones in the Blaster Boxes. The key difference is that your odds of getting a numbered card seem to be better with the Mega versus buying two Blaster Boxes, which would net you the same number of cards overall.

Important Note: Amazon’s product listing has the correct name, but the image is for one of Panini’s older Minecraft Trading Card boxes. It’s highly unlikely that you will get the box shown in Amazon’s picture, as it was originally printed in 2022 and is no longer manufactured.

The Mega Box is shipped and sold by Amazon. It’s worth emphasizing that while Amazon doesn’t accept returns for collectible trading card boxes, if the store page has incorrect information, we suspect that would be the exception. That said, we can’t 100% guarantee Amazon would accept your return (if you wanted one). We’d recommend taking a screenshot of the store page if you decide to order the Mega Box.

Minecraft Trading Cards are sold out at other retailers

Panini – 2024 Minecraft Trading Cards

GameStop and Walmart also carry Minecraft Trading Cards, but you’ll only find them at the retail chains’ brick-and-mortar locations. Walmart shoppers can technically buy card boxes online, but you’ll typically pay extra since the boxes are being listed by third-party resellers. Target and Best Buy have listings for the 2024 set, but both retailers are sold out.

Shortages at major retailers doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t be able to find Minecraft Trading Cards at other places beyond Amazon. If you have a local card shop, we’d recommend calling to see if cards are in stock or can be ordered.

Panini’s Minecraft products are trading cards–not a trading card game–so they are just for collecting purposes. Minecraft fans looking for something to play beyond the video game should check out our roundup of Minecraft board and card games. It includes a wide variety of genres, including an upcoming pen-and-paper RPG called Minecraft: Roll for Adventure – The Temple of the Charged Creeper. The Dungeons & Dragons-inspired adventure book releases July 8 and is available to preorder for $16 (was $20) at Amazon.

It’s very possible that the success of the Minecraft film adaptation has contributed to the increased interest around Panini’s Minecraft newest card set. If you haven’t secured your preorder for one of the soon-to-be released physical editions, check out our Minecraft Movie preorder guide for a list of options. Most notably, you can still preorder A Minecraft Movie’s Limited Edition Steelbook on 4K Blu-ray ahead of its June 24 release. If you don’t mind standard Blu-ray, Walmart has a unique exclusive edition. The Collector’s Crafting Table Edition includes packaging that can be folded into a replica of the in-game (and in-movie) Crafting Table.

How to make a Bow in Minecraft

Want to make a Bow in Minecraft? We’ll help you out.

Published: May 29, 2025 09:32 am

Minecraft gives you a huge world to play around with, and having a Bow is essential to protect you against monsters and other hostile creatures, as it allows you to pick them off from a distance.

Thankfully, you can craft Bows quite early in the game. Here’s how you can make one in Minecraft.

Crafting recipe for a Bow in Minecraft

The crafting recipe for a Bow in Minecraft is quite simple, and you can find it in the image below.

Bows are easy to make. Screenshot by Dot Esports

Here are the materials you need and how to get them :

  1. Stick: You need three of these. You can craft sticks using wooden planks. Additionally, you can craft four wooden planks using one wood log, so get your axe out and start chopping down trees.
  2. String: You’ll need three pieces of this material as well. You can get it in the following ways:
  • Mining Tripwire (you can find five pieces of string in a Jungle Temple)
  • Breaking a cobweb with a sword or a piston
  • Fishing
  • Killing a Spider or Cave Spider
  • Killing Striders
  • Killing Cats, or getting it as a gift from one
  • Looting chests in Dungeons, Pillager Outposts, Bastion Remnants, Trail Ruins, Woodland Mansions, or Desert Temples
  • Bartering with Piglins

How to use the Bow

Firing a bow is even easier than crafting it, as all you need to do is hold and release the right-click button on your mouse to use it. However, you’ll need arrows as ammunition. Here’s how you can get them:

Crafting recipe for arrows

There are several types of arrows. Screenshot by Dot Esports

Like the Bow, you can create Arrows easily. You’ll need feathers, sticks, and flint. One of each of these materials will give you four arrows.

You can get feathers as drops from Chickens, Parrots, and sometimes, Foxes. You can also obtain them from chests inside Shipwrecks and Villages, as a gift from cats, and by trading with Fletchers. Flint can be mined from Gravel blocks, looted in Ruined  Portal or Village chests, or obtained by trading with Fletchers.

How to upgrade your Bow

While the Bow in Minecraft doesn’t have any higher-tier variants like Swords, Axes, and other tools do, you can enchant it. Enchanting is done at an enchanting table, and imbues your gear with special abilities that make it stronger, faster, and more efficient.

Best enchantments for the Bow

There are several enchantments that you can use to make your Bow stronger. Here are five of the best ones, in no particular order:

  1. Punch: Increases the knockback value on each arrow.
  2. Power: Increases the damage dealt by each arrow.
  3. Flame: Makes all arrows flaming arrows, dealing burning damage. You can also use this to acquire cooked meat directly from sheep, pigs, cows, and similar animals.
  4. Infinity: Gives you infinite arrows as long as you have at least one in your inventory.
  5. Unbreaking: Increases the durability of your Bow.
