“Hotline Miami meets Diablo” in Slaughter Void’s ultraviolent psychedelia

by admin June 22, 2025

Nothing is more powerful, Hotline Miami and its -likes teach us, than a good corner from which to lurk and swing sharp objects at conga lines of investigating idiots, each somehow convinced that although he just watched four mates get blade-battered in that exact spot by some murdercrazed invisible entity, he will personally be the one that overcomes the unassailable instant death corner with all his favourite bits intact.

Perhaps this is the Slaughter Void this lethal arcade action game speaks of, although, hang on: it’s got its own creation myth, in which a betrayed deity unleashes her anguish and makes everything at least 60% more violent and shit than it was previously. The claret-spattered cosmic psychedelia was enough to sucker me in alone, but there’s some nicely written fiction here too. It’s the kind that just pokes its horns through the walls occasionally, giving you enough of a sense of the entire beast to feel like you’re entering somewhere with history, without bogging down all that good good corner slaughter.

Watch on YouTube

Where the stated Diablo influences start to creep in is through a few neat combat twists that transform Hotline Miami’s crests and lulls of situational disempowerment into a sort of weaving tactical bloodlust. You’ll still get squished instantly if you slip up, but you get temporary armour and speed boosts for kill streaks, and you can access both ranged and melee at the same time. There’s also a fat area-of-effect super for dealing with groups. Features ahoy:

Fast paced, brutal action: Combat in SLAUGHTER VOID is quick and merciless. A single hit will kill you, but the same goes for (most of) your enemies- agility and aggression are essential.

Be your own harbinger of destruction: Through a deluge of hand-crafted levels, carve your own bloody path with unique combinations of weapons and relics to achieve maximum slaughter.

Dynamic Dismemberment: Quick death is not enough. The faster you kill, the more havoc you wreak upon your foes, severing and splattering them into multiple pieces. The more you slaughter, the more you reap, harvesting valuable loot from their corpses to spend on upgrades, items, and more.

To the Victor the Spoils: Compete to be the fastest on the leaderboards as you decimate enemies from this gore-soaked void to the next.

You can find a demo on Steam here. More importantly, you can switch out your axe for a very large hammer.

Wisconsin sues Miami for tampering with football transfer

The University of Wisconsin filed a lawsuit Friday claiming Miami’s football team broke the law by tampering with a Badgers player, a first-of-its-kind legal attempt to enforce the terms of a financial contract between a football player and his school.

The lawsuit refers to the athlete in question as “Student Athlete A,” but details from the complaint line up with the offseason transfer of freshman defensive back Xavier Lucas. Lucas left Wisconsin and enrolled at Miami in January after saying the Badgers staff refused to enter his name in the transfer portal last December.

In the complaint filed Friday, Wisconsin claims that a Miami staff member and a prominent alumnus met with Lucas and his family at a relative’s home in Florida and offered him money to transfer shortly after Lucas signed a two-year contract last December. The lawsuit states that Miami committed tortious interference by knowingly compelling a player to break the terms of his deal with the Badgers.

“While we reluctantly bring this case, we stand by our position that respecting and enforcing contractual obligations is essential to maintaining a level playing field,” the school said in a statement provided to ESPN on Friday.

According to the complaint, Wisconsin decided to file suit in hopes that “during this watershed time for college athletics, this case will advance the overall integrity of the game by holding programs legally accountable when they wrongfully interfere with contractual commitments.”

Representatives from the University of Miami did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The pending case promises to be an interesting test of whether schools can use name, image and likeness (NIL) deals to keep athletes from transferring even though the players aren’t technically employees. Starting July 1, schools will being paying their athletes directly via NIL deals.

The contracts between Wisconsin and their athletes gives the school the non-exclusive rights to use a player’s NIL in promotions. Part of the deal, according to the lawsuit, prohibits an athlete from making any commitments to enroll or play sports at other schools. The lawsuit says Wisconsin had a reasonable expectation that Lucas would “continue to participate as a member of its football program” until the deal ended.

However, according to several contracts between Big Ten schools and their players that ESPN has previously reviewed, these deals explicitly state that athletes are not being paid to play football for the university. Since the school is technically only paying to use the player’s NIL rights, it’s not clear if a judge will consider it fair to enforce a part of the contract that dictates where the player attends school.

The Big Ten said in a statement Friday that it supports Wisconsin’s decision to file the lawsuit and that Miami’s alleged actions “are irreconcilable with a sustainable college sports framework.”

Darren Heitner, a Florida-based attorney who represents Xavier Lucas, told ESPN that Wisconsin did not file any legal claims against Lucas and declined to comment further.

Lionel Messi fit, Jordi Alba returning as Miami faces Porto

by admin June 19, 2025

Inter Miami CF head coach Javier Mascherano said Jordi Alba and Lionel Messi will both be available for selection tomorrow in the team’s second Club World Cup group stage match against FC Porto at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Alba returns to the squad almost three weeks after suffering a hamstring injury on May 28 in an MLS match against Montreal. He came off the pitch in the 24th minute, watching Inter Miami from the sidelines for the last few weeks before finally joining the team for training earlier this week.

“The only one who will be available for us that wasn’t in the last match is Jordi Alba,” said Mascherano. “The rest are still not available. Jordi, today, three weeks ago suffered a hamstring injury so we will evaluate what is better if he starts or comes on as a substitute. We know, but I won’t tell you.”

Mascherano said that Messi trained well after the inaugural Club World Cup match against Al Ahly, which finished 0-0, and will feature on Thursday, before adding that Yannick Bright, Gonzalo Luján and David Ruiz remain out.

Despite the litany of injuries, Mascherano hopes to prove that the club can compete even with the European sides at the tournament.

“The reality is that we’re focused on tomorrow’s match,” Mascherano said. “It’s a match that every player on our team wants to play because you’re facing and testing yourself against an opponent that plays in Europe, plays in the Champions League, that plays in important competitions.

“Well, we’re doing it with the hope of being able to prove what we’re really worth, too.”

Mascherano cited the results of South American teams and the 1-1 draw between Inter Milan and Monterrey on Tuesday as inspiration and proof any team can get results in the competition.

“Except for two or three games, like Paris [Saint-Germain] vs. Atlético [de Madrid] and Bayern [Munich] vs. Auckland City, the rest are very close matches,” Mascherano said. “We even saw it yesterday in Dortmund’s match against Fluminense. I mean, maybe there was a lot of expectation that there would be a big difference between the European teams, and I’m not even talking about the South American ones, because yesterday Monterrey played a very, very good game against Inter Milan, the European runner-up.

“I mean, I think that shows us, perhaps to teams that aren’t used to competing at this level and in this type of championship that football is 11 against 11 and there’s one ball, and when you have enthusiasm, determination, desire, and confidence in what you do, you can compete against opponents at the highest level.

“Well, it’s one more example to go to this match tomorrow and trust in what we do and above all to prove ourselves. I think that’s what sport is about.”

Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Al Hilal on Wednesday afternoon at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami added some credence to Mascherano’s sentiment.

After the match with Porto on Thursday, Miami concludes the group stage of the tournament against Palmeiras on Monday in Miami.

The inaugural 32-team FIFA Club World Cup gets underway on Saturday with soccer legend Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami teammates taking on Africa’s most successful club, Al Ahly.

Below, we’ll outline the best live TV streaming services to use to watch every match of the tournament as it happens, wherever you are in the world, and how to use a VPN if the match isn’t available where you are, along with a full fixture list.

Eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi is fit to start today’s game, alongside fellow big guns Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets however Spanish star Jordi Alba is set to miss out because of a hamstring injury. The Floridians form hasn’t been great coming into today’s game, with Javier Mascherano’s team currently sitting third in the MLS Eastern Conference after a run of just four wins from their last 12 games across all competitions.

Al Ahly, meanwhile, secured a record-extending 45th Egyptian Premier League title last month and come into this tournament opener having won their last six competitive matches. The prolific Wessam Abou Ali is the Red Devils’ key man, with the Palestinian striker having scored eight goals in Al Ahly’s last six matches.

Al Ahly take on Inter Miami on Saturday, June 14, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, with kickoff set for 8 p.m. ET or 5 p.m. PT. That makes it a 1 a.m. BST start in the UK and a 10 a.m. AEST kickoff in Australia on Sunday.

With Cristiano Ronaldo not appearing in this summer’s tournament, Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi has the chance to surpass the Portuguese star’s record for most FIFA Club World Cup goals. Messi has scored five goals in five Club World Cup appearances — just two behind Ronaldo’s tally.

It encrypts your traffic and prevents your internet service provider from throttling your speeds and can also be helpful when connecting to public Wi-Fi networks while traveling, adding an extra layer of protection for your devices and logins. VPNs are legal in many countries, including the US and Canada, and can be used for legitimate purposes such as improving online privacy and security.

However, some streaming services may have policies restricting VPN use to access region-specific content. If you’re considering a VPN for streaming, check the platform’s terms of service to ensure compliance.

If you choose to use a VPN, follow the provider’s installation instructions, ensuring you’re connected securely and in compliance with applicable laws and service agreements. Some streaming platforms may block access when a VPN is detected, so verifying if your streaming subscription allows VPN use is crucial.

Quick tips for streaming FIFA Club World Cup 2025 soccer using a VPN

  • With four variables at play — your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN — your experience and success when streaming soccer may vary.
  • If you don’t see your desired location as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the “search for city or country” option.
  • If you’re having trouble getting the game after you’ve turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs — like Roku — don’t have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you’ll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you’re using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network’s sports app, you’ll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, because both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
  • And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you’re using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend Brave.
