Voila! Nintendo quietly shares new details on Samus’s motorbike in Metroid Prime 4

by admin October 8, 2025

Nintendo has revealed more details of how Samus’s motorbike will work in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

At Nintendo’s Direct in September, the game’s release date was finally revealed, along with the new mode of transportation, which proved controversial for some.

Now, the game’s Japanese website has been updated with new details. The motorbike is called “Vi-O-La” and is used to explore expanses across the planet Byrus (spotted by VGC).

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – Nintendo Direct 9.12.2025Watch on YouTube

It seems the motorbike can only be ridden in specific areas, with players returning to Samus’s point of view afterwards – we saw this in the release date trailer.

While riding the motorbike, Samus can boost and power slide to deflect enemies and crush ores, as well as increase speed.

She can also fire projectiles, locking on to up to five enemies. The projectiles return to Samus akin to a boomerang.

The motorbike will also be available as an amiibo.

It’s not much to go on yet, but Metroid fans are keen to glean more information ahead of the game’s release on 4th December.

The motorbike section of the trailer certainly stood out for providing something novel among otherwise standard Metroid Prime gameplay, but also feels particularly flashy and un-Metroid. The games are known for their slow exploration, so the inclusion of a motorbike is certainly a surprise.

Samus will also have psychic powers, used to operate mechanisms, open doors, and control the trajectory of beams. Thrilling.

Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective Has Clothbound Cover With Metallic Art

by admin September 25, 2025

Ahead of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond’s release this December, fans of the iconic Nintendo series can revisit the original Prime Trilogy in written form. On October 28, an official Metroid Prime Trilogy retrospective will be published by Piggyback, the strategy guide publisher best known for its excellent Legend of Zelda guidebooks. Preorders for Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective are available now at Amazon for $46.49 (was $50).

With Amazon’s preorder price guarantee, you’ll automatically get any price cuts offered between the time you order and launch.

$46.49 (was $50) | Releases October 28

The book’s full title is Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective: The Official Art and Making of Metroid Prime 1-3.

The 212-page clothbound hardcover with a stitched binding and etched metallic foil cover art featuring Samus Aran wearing the Varia Suit. Piggyback is using high-quality, sheet-fed art paper to showcase the concept art and sketches from the development of the original Metroid Prime (2002), Prime 2: Echoes (2004), Prime 3: Corruption (2007), and Metroid Prime Remastered (2023).

Along with the artwork, the book contains commentary from Retro Studios developers. The foreword was written by Metroid Prime series producer Kensuke Tanabe, and each of the four sections are introduced by a developer from Retro Studios.

Preorder Metroid Prime 4: Beyond + Amiibo

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond launches December 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch. The Switch 2 version is available to preorder at Amazon, Walmart, and other major retailers for $70. The original Switch version is up for preorder for $60. If you want to upgrade to Switch 2 to play Metroid Prime 4 in 4K resolution, Amazon finally has Nintendo’s new console in stock. The upcoming Pokemon Legends: Z-A Bundle has sold out a couple of times, but the Mario Kart World Switch 2 Bundle is available for $499.

Nintendo is also releasing three new Amiibo for Metroid Prime 4. Two different Samus Amiibo figures launch November 6, while Sylux releases December 4. Amazon is sold out of two of the Amiibo, while Walmart is sold out of the one Amiibo Amazon has in stock. You can also still get the Metroid Dread Amiibo 2-Pack featuring Samus and E.M.M.I. for $28.73 at Amazon.

More Metroid Games

Metroid Prime Remastered

If you haven’t played Metroid Prime Remastered, we’d highly recommend checking it out ahead of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. It’s one of the very best games for Nintendo Switch and will serve as a good primer (sorry) for Beyond. For classic side-scrolling Metroid, check out Metroid Dread for Switch and Metroid: Samus Returns on 3DS. The latter is a great remake of Metroid II that flew a bit under the radar because it launched in 2017 after the Switch hit the market. Dread and Samus Returns were developed by MercurySteam.

Nintendo Switch Online members can play the first five Metroid games on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Metroid, Metroid II, and Super Metroid are available with the Switch Online Individual membership ($20/year). To get the Game Boy Advance games–Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission–you need the Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership ($50/year).

And if you want to play all of these Metroid games with a controller themed around the franchise, PowerA recently launched an officially licensed wireless controller featuring Samus Aran and a galactic background. You can also grab a pair of wired Metroid-themed earbuds packaged in a drawstring bag with Metroid artwork.

Amazon has deals on the hardcover editions of Piggyback’s other recent Nintendo books. We’ve included a list of those below. And if you’re looking for more official Nintendo art and lore books, you should check out Dark Horse’s series of Zelda and Super Mario books.

Metroid Prime 4 Game And Samus Amiibo Preorders Available Now

by admin September 15, 2025

Metroid fans have been beyond ready for the fourth entry in the Metroid Prime series, and now we know when the more than 18-year wait comes to an end. Announced during September’s jam-packed Nintendo Direct, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond launches December 4 on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and preorders are now open for both versions at major retailers. Metroid enthusiasts can also preorder three new Amiibo figures: A new Samus Amiibo and Samus on her Vi-O-La motorcycle launch November 6, and a Sylux Amiibo releases the same day as the game.

Check out all of the Metroid Prime 4 preorder details you need to know below. We’ve also included a look at the upcoming Metroid Prime Trilogy retrospective book and two recently released official Metroid gaming accessories, including a brand-new wireless controller for Switch 1/2.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Preorder Bonuses

Nintendo rarely offers preorder bonuses with its exclusives, but it’s fairly common for retailers to have exclusive bonuses for Nintendo games. No retailer has announced any bonuses just yet, but we’ll update this story if anything changes. It took over a month for Walmart and Best Buy to reveal Pokemon Legends: Z-A exclusive bonuses. Retailers typically add the bonus to your order if you preorder before it was announced.

$70 | Releases December 4

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond for Nintendo Switch 2 includes the base Switch game and the Switch 2 Upgrade Pack for $70. Like other first-party Switch 2 games and select third-party titles, the full game is stored on the cartridge, so you won’t need to download any data beyond patches.

The Switch 2 version of Metroid Prime 4 has better visuals, enhanced resolutions in handheld and docked modes, and higher frame rates. Two different graphics modes will be available at launch. When the Switch 2 is docked, Quality mode renders Samus’ latest adventure in 4K at 60fps. Performance mode offers 1080p resolution at 120fps. Metroid Prime 4’s handheld experience offers 1080p resolution at 60fps in Quality mode and 720p at 120fps in Performance mode. High Dynamic Range is supported at all times.

Switch 2 players also have the option to use mouse controls with the Joy-Con 2 to aim Samus’ arm canon. Players can swap freely between dual stick, mouse, and gyro motion controls at any time.

$60 | Releases December 4

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond retails for 10 bucks less on original Switch hardware. Like other games with versions for both generations of Switch hardware, you can upgrade to the Switch 2 edition for $10. The upgrade is available for digital and physical owners of Prime 4 on Switch.

Metroid Prime 4 Amiibo Figures

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was initially revealed back at E3 2017, just a few months after the Nintendo Switch launched. Preorders actually opened at the same time. Many fans had an Amazon preorder for nearly eight years before the retailer finally canceled all existing orders earlier this year. Prime 4 was originally being developed by Bandai Namco, but the project was scrapped and restarted in 2019 by Retro Studios. The Nintendo subsidiary developed the previous three Prime games, and Beyond is led by the original producer Kensuke Tanabe. Gameplay footage shown so far has looked very promising.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond takes place after the events of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, though how far after remains unclear. What we do know is that it will see Samus explore an all-new planet, Viewros, populated by a new musical alien race called____ who have called on Samus to save the planet from an unknown threa. To aid in her adventure, the ____ imbue Samus with all-new psychic powers that will allow her to interface with the strange ruins and artifacts on Viewros and defend herself against the deadly creatures that live there.

As confirmed in an earlier gameplay trailer, Samus’ enigmatic rival, Sylux, will also appear and likely play a pivotable role in the storyline. Gameplay footage shown so far has looked very promising, and fans don’t have to wait much longer to explore the planet of Viewros through Samus’ iconic visor.

If you’re looking to play earlier Metroid Prime games before the Beyond arrives, unfortunately, the long-rumored Metroid Prime Trilogy for Switch never materialized. But you can at least play the gorgeous 2023 remaster of the original GameCube hit. Metroid Prime Remastered is a brilliant modernization of the 2002 classic. You can snag the physical edition for Nintendo Switch for $40 at Amazon. Samus’ 2021 side-scrolling adventure Metroid Dread is also well-worth playing.

In August, PowerA launched a pair of Metroid Prime-themed accessories. After initially selling out, the new PowerA Enhanced Wireless Controller and wired gaming earbuds are back in stock at Amazon. Take a look at both of the stylish pieces of gear below.

$70

PowerA’s new Metroid-themed wireless controller is compatible with Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 via Bluetooth. The controller is officially licensed and has a traditional form factor similar to Nintendo’s Pro Controllers.

It has anti-friction joystick rings, motion controls, dual rumble motors, and two back buttons that can be remapped on the fly. The eye-catching design features Samus Aran wearing her Varia Suit and a space-themed background on the right. The Metroid Prime logo is on the left grip.

The controller can run for up to 30 hours between charges and comes with a 10-foot USB-C cable.

$25

PowerA’s Metroid Prime-themed gaming earbuds look pretty cool, but it’s worth noting upfront that the controller doesn’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Switch 2 console, however, does support wired earbuds.

The $25 earbuds feature Metroid iconography on each side and three swappable silicone tips. It has an inline microphone for voice chat, 8mm dynamic audio drivers, and an adjustable slider to prevent the wires from becoming tangled.

Honestly, though, the coolest feature might be the drawstring storage bag, as it features three pieces of key art depicting Samus based on her appearances in the original trilogy.

$46.49 (was $50) | Releases October 28

Speaking of the Metroid Prime Trilogy, the highly anticipated, official visual retrospective is slated to release October 28. Made by the team behind the beautiful Legend of Zelda strategy guides, Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective is a 208-page cloth hardcover that sounds like a must-read book for fans.

The book includes concept art, sketches, and illustrations as well as commentary from Retro Studios developers and other behind-the-scenes materials such as producer’s notes from Nintendo’s archives. The book covers Metroid Prime, Prime 2: Echoes, Prime 3: Corruption, and Metroid Prime Remastered.

Series producer Kensuke Tanabe wrote the foreword for the book, and each game’s section is introduced by a developer from Retro Studios.

We have yet to see any of the pages, but the etched metallic-foil illustration of Samus on the cover looks awesome. Publisher Piggyback printed the book on premium art paper and stitched the pages to the binding. The hardcover is wrapped in cloth, which adds to the collectible-quality aesthetic.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Hits Nintendo Switch 2 And Switch This December

by admin September 14, 2025

Nintendo has revealed that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will launch this December. More specifically, it hits Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch on December 4, and that same day, a Sylux amiibo will hit stores, too. Before that, though, you can pick up a Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Samus amiibo and a Samus + Vi-0-La (motorcycle) amiibo on November 6.

Nintendo announced this news during today’s Nintendo Direct with a new gameplay trailer showcasing Samus in a desert biome, utilizing a new tool in her arsenal: a motorbike. Its official name is Vi-0-La, and it’s the bike featured in the aforementioned amiibo. The trailer also gives us a new cinematic look at Sylux, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond’s first-person gameplay, and more.

Check it out for yourself in the Metroid Prime 4: Beyond release date trailer below:

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond finally gets release date, plus Samus on a motorbike

by admin September 13, 2025

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has finally received a release date from Nintendo, following months of speculation.

As revealed at today’s Nintendo Direct livestream, Metroid Prime 4 will release on 4th December across both Switch and Switch 2.

The announcement came with a fresh look at the game, including Samus on a motorbike. Yes, you read that correctly.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – Nintendo Direct 9.12.2025Watch on YouTube

Back in June, an advertisement for the game was seen on the London Underground stating the game was “out now”, though this was swiftly debunked by Nintendo.

Still, while the game officially had a 2025 launch window, rumours of a delay intensified over the summer, though Nintendo remained committed to a release this year.

In July the game popped up on the Korean ratings board and then, a month later, was rated by the ESRB. As such, a proper release date has been hotly anticipated.

Metroid Prime 4 is the long-awaited latest entry in Nintendo’s sci-fi series, that once again follows bounty hunter Samus Aran in first-person. This time, though, she’s got psychic powers.

I went hands-on with Metroid Prime 4 at Nintendo’s Switch 2 launch event, but wasn’t completely convinced by its mouse controls.

Metroid Prime 4 Gets A Cool Motorcycle Instead Of Another Delay

by admin September 12, 2025

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond finally has a release date. The sci-fi shooter arrives on December 4, more than eight years after it was first announced at E3 in the original Switch’s launch year. Also Samus has a motorcycle. What?!

The latest trailer opened with the bounty hunter tearing across the dunes of an alien planet on a Tron-like speeder. Will these be isolated parts of Metroid Prime 4 or is the sequel going more open world just like all of Nintendo’s other big franchises?

Samus is also getting new Metroid Prime 4 amiibo, including one with her on her motorcycle, on November 6, followed by a Sylux amiibo on release date.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond officially ESRB rated, sparking hope for release date news

by admin August 21, 2025

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has received its official ESRB rating, sparking hope that release date news is on the way soon.

Now updated on the US eShop, Metroid Prime 4 has received a Teen rating, with animated blood and violence. In the UK, it has a provisional PEGI 12. These ratings are the same as Metroid Prime Remastered.

Back in July the game popped up on the Korean ratings board, but still we don’t have a release date beyond 2025.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – Nintendo Direct 3.27.2025Watch on YouTube

Earlier this month, Nintendo reiterated the latest in its beloved sci-fi series would still launch this year, despite rumours of a delay.

That followed a poster for the game appearing on the London Underground stating, incorrectly, that it was “out now”.

Metroid Prime 4 will be released across both Switch and Switch 2, with the latter being a prime example of the console’s varied control capabilities – including mouse mode.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.
