Jake Paul, Gervonta Davis book Nov. 14 boxing match in Atlanta

Andreas Hale is a combat sports reporter at ESPN. Andreas covers MMA, boxing and pro wrestling. In Andreas’ free time, he plays video games, obsesses over music and is a White Sox and 49ers fan. He is also a host for Sirius XM’s Fight Nation. He is also an NAACP Image Award-nominated filmmaker as a producer for the animated short film “Bridges” in 2024.

Two of the biggest names in boxing will clash on Nov. 14 when Jake Paul faces Gervonta “Tank” Davis at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, the two sides confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday.

The contracted weight for the fight and number of rounds has yet to be determined. The fight will be promoted by Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions and streamed live globally on Netflix.

Talks between both parties have been ongoing since the beginning of the year, and there were initially plans to move forward with the fight after Davis’ WBA lightweight title defense against Lamont Roach Jr. However, those plans were put on hold after Roach and Davis battled to a shocking majority draw in March. Rumors of a rematch taking place in August never came to fruition, and the two sides picked up on their earlier negotiations, finalizing a deal for the fight to happen in November.

“The original timeline assumed that ‘Tank’ would be fighting Jake [Paul] after he fought Roach,” Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian told ESPN. “The outcome didn’t necessarily change anything per se, but our timeline of waiting around to see what Davis was going to do resulted in Jake fighting Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.”

Although initial reports suggested that Paul secured a fight with Davis after discussions for a heavyweight tilt with former unified champion Anthony Joshua fell apart, Bidarian told ESPN that the Joshua fight is still on the table and was never planned to take place in 2025.

“I think it’s just a matter of hitting ‘Go,'” Bidarian said about the ongoing negotiations for Paul-Joshua in 2026. “Jake is looking at it like he wants to show the world that he’s going to fight David and then he plans to take on Goliath.”

As for the upcoming fight, with such a significant disparity in weight with Paul tipping the scales at 199.4 pounds for his fight with Chavez at cruiserweight and Davis weighing 133.8 pounds when he faced Roach, there are ongoing conversations about what weight the fight will be contested at.

“We’re still figuring that out,” Bidarian said, while not committing to the fight being an exhibition as reported by other outlets. “Jake will definitely have to come down below his 200-pound weight that he’s been fighting at. I can tell you that we’re going to have a fight that will have a definitive outcome, whether by way of knockout or decision.”

The weight disparity draws striking similarities to the exhibition fight between Paul’s older brother, Logan, and Floyd Mayweather in June 2021. Mayweather, who spent much of his career at 147 pounds, weighed in at 155 pounds while Paul weighed 189.5 pounds. No winner was declared in the eight-round exhibition that reportedly sold over 1 million pay-per-view buys and generated over $80 million in revenue.

Paul-Davis will be shown to a much larger audience on Netflix with higher stakes as Paul continues to prove himself as a full-time boxer.

Jake Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) has been campaigning as a cruiserweight and is ranked 14th by the WBA following his one-sided decision over Chavez in June. His plans to be a world champion will be put on hold for a massive cultural event against Davis, whom he has targeted for a fight as early as August 2021 when he revealed a wish list of opponents on social media that included Nate Diaz, Tyron Woodley, Tommy Fury, KSI and Canelo Alvarez.

“Gervonta is an angry little elf who has been disrespecting my name for too long,” Paul said in a statement to ESPN. “His nickname might be Tank, but I’m an FPV drone and I’m about to disable his ass. Yes, he is one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world, but my motto is anyone, anytime, anyplace, against all odds. And I like my odds. First, I am going to kill David, then I will go on to slaughter Goliath, and you are all going watch me do it, breaking viewership records again. Atlanta. Friday, Nov 14th. The worst night of Gervonta’s career, live only on Netflix.”

Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) is one of the biggest attractions in boxing but has never competed in a weight class higher than 140 pounds. He has fought at lightweight (135 pounds) in his past six fights, dating back to December 2021. His April 2023 fight with Ryan Garcia at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas was a massive success at the box office with a reported $1.2 million PPV buys and a gate of $22.8 million, fifth-highest gate in U.S. boxing history. He has been engaging in a war of words with Paul on social media for several years and will look to put an end to their rivalry in November.

Davis, 30, was dealing with legal issues over the summer with a misdemeanor battery charge stemming from an alleged domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend on Father’s Day. Those charges were dropped last week. Davis will resume his boxing career against a former YouTuber who has also become one of the biggest names in boxing.

“This is a fight between the biggest fighters in the world for Gen Z and Gen Alpha audiences,” Bidarian said. “It’s really about who is the true face of American boxing and I view it as The Disruptor [Paul] versus The Destroyer [Davis].”

Can Kamaru Usman match up with the new generation welterweights

by admin June 14, 2025

  • Brett OkamotoJun 13, 2025, 07:52 AM ET

Brett Okamoto has reported on mixed martial arts and boxing at ESPN since 2010. He has covered all of the biggest events in combat sports during that time, including in-depth interviews and features with names such as Dana White, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Conor McGregor, Nate Diaz, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and Georges St-Pierre. He was also a producer on the 30 for 30 film: “Chuck and Tito,” which looked back at the careers and rivalry of Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz. He lives in Las Vegas, and is an avid, below-average golfer in his spare time.

When Kamaru Usman and Joaquin Buckley first squared off this week, ahead of their welterweight clash at UFC Fight Night inside Atlanta’s State Farm Arena (10 p.m. ET on ESPN/ESPN+; prelims at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+), the 31-year-old contender had a question for the 38-year-old former champion.

“How’s it feel going up against the new gen?” Buckley asked.

Buckley’s job is to fight, of course, but in that moment, he directly addressed the most pressing topic of this entire event to the only person holding the answer.

Nearing 40 and more than three years removed from his last win, what does Usman have left? Can he still be a factor in the 170-pound title picture? Or is he about to become cannon fodder for someone like Buckley, who enters the weekend on a six-fight winning streak and who publicly called for this specific matchup at the end of last year?

Usman, who hasn’t fought since October 2023, declined to respond to Buckley’s probe. When asked about it later, he said, “I’m just f—ing tired. Why do I need to be talking? On Saturday, we’re going to be locked in [the Octagon], and that’s when I’m going to do the talking.”

Three years ago, Usman was a UFC champion and widely considered the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world. He suffered a Hail Mary, head kick knockout in the final minute of a five-round title fight against Leon Edwards on Aug. 20, 2022, and has struggled to find his footing since. He lost to Edwards in an immediate rematch in March 2023 then came up short in a short notice fight against Khamzat Chimaev that October.

He has been sidelined since, saying he took time to focus on nonfighting aspects of his life and “little injuries that were nagging” while he was an active champion. He also was waiting for the right opportunity. More short notice fights were thrown his way — which he entertained, because he says he loves saving the day for the UFC — but ultimately he opted to hold out for a situation that puts him in what he believes is the best position to win.

“We want to finish this the right way,” Usman told ESPN of his fighting career. “Rather than just jump in there on a week’s notice.”

If Usman upsets Buckley — as of Friday he is a +230 betting underdog, according to ESPN BET — his aspirations are still those of a fighter very much in his prime. He wants to face the winner of an expected but unconfirmed title fight between welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena and former lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. And if he were to get the fight and reclaim the belt, he would do something he never came seriously close to doing during his first title reign: move up to challenge for a second belt.

“I’ll lay out the plan right here,” Usman said. “Finish Buckley this weekend, then wait for the winner of Islam and [Della Maddalena]. Who wouldn’t buy a ticket to the former pound-for-pound [Usman] against the current pound-for-pound [Makhachev]? I think that’s something Islam and I would both remember forever.

“Win that, probably vacate and go put myself against [middleweight champion] Dricus Du Plessis or Khamzat Chimaev.”

It’s the exact mindset you want to see from a returning former champion who was quiet about his fighting future during his layoff. There will likely be skepticism about how realistic Usman’s plan is, but if he looks like the champion he once was Saturday, there will be new questions.

For now, there’s only one: How does he feel going up against the new gen?

Lenovo Legion Go S (SteamOS) Review: Sky-high performance with a price tag to match

by admin June 12, 2025

Why you can trust Tom’s Hardware

Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test.

Earlier this year, the Lenovo Legion Go S, as a cost-optimized follow-up to the original Legion Go, launched. While the console had a more ergonomic design, I wasn’t impressed with the system’s gaming performance or its high price tag ($729 as configured).

At the time, I suggested anyone eyeing the Legion Go S hardware should hold off for the cheaper SteamOS version instead. Well, we now have a SteamOS version of the device for review, but our configuration is even more expensive than the Windows version. But as you’ll see in the benchmarks section, it’s a powerhouse among the current crop of the best PC gaming handhelds.

Design of the Lenovo Legion Go S (SteamOS)

From the outside, the SteamOS version of the Legion Go S shares an identical design with the Windows 11 version. The only difference is that our previous Windows version was finished in white, while our new SteamOS review unit features a deep purplish color, which Lenovo calls Nebula.

Although it’s a personal preference, I was more drawn to Nebula. There’s also the side benefit that the darker color does a better job of masking dirt and grime than white.

The Legion Go S’s chassis is an all-plastic affair, unlike the original aluminum-clad Legion Go. I expect the chassis to withstand abuse and even a few light drops without issue, but I wasn’t brave enough to test my hypothesis with a loaned review unit.

The Legion Go S features two thumbsticks, a D-pad, and four game buttons (X, A, B, Y) on its front face and four system buttons (including a dedicated Steam button). The thumbsticks are offset, similar to what you’d find on an Xbox controller. The top of the handheld is home to two shoulder buttons and two triggers. That is also where you’ll find the power button, volume up/down buttons, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and two USB-C ports. A microSD port resides on the bottom panel. Finally, the back panel is home to two sliders to adjust the travel distance of each trigger and two additional buttons (Y2 and Y1).

The Legion Go S measures 11.77 x 5.02 x 0.89 inches and weighs 1.61 pounds. For comparison, the original Legion Go with detachable controllers is 11.76 x 5.16 x 1.60 and weighs 1.88 pounds. The original Steam Deck is 11.73 x 4.6 x 1.93 inches and 1.47 pounds, while the Steam Deck OLED is 11.73 x 4.6 x 1.97 inches and 1.41 pounds.

Gaming Performance on the Legion Go S (SteamOS)

Our Legion Go S (SteamOS) review unit is the flagship model, meaning that it is powered by the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, the same chip used in the original Legion Go gaming handheld. I also have the standard, Windows-based Legion Go S on hand, equipped with the less powerful Ryzen Z2 Go. Although the processors differ, all other hardware is identical, including the 32GB LPDDR5X-6400MHz memory and the 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. Both systems also have an 8-inch IPS display with a native resolution of 1920 x 1200 and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

SteamOS systems used the Performance power profile at all times, while the Legion Go S running Windows 11 used the Performance power profile on battery and the Custom (40-watt) profile when connected to AC power.

To make things interesting, I installed a fresh copy of SteamOS on the Legion Go S (Ryzen Z2 Go) to measure the performance differential between Windows 11 and SteamOS. It should come as a shock to no one that the Legion Go S (Ryzen Z1 Extreme, SteamOS) ran the table in the gaming benchmarks, and it wasn’t even close.

Image 1 of 5

(Image credit: Tom’s Hardware)(Image credit: Tom’s Hardware)(Image credit: Tom’s Hardware)(Image credit: Tom’s Hardware)(Image credit: Tom’s Hardware)

On the Shadow of the Tomb Raider benchmark (Medium settings), the Legion Go S (Ryzen Z1 Extreme, SteamOS) opened a significant lead of 8 frames per second (fps) at 800p over the less powerful Legion Go S (Ryzen Z2 Go, SteamOS). At 1200p, the lead shrank to 4 fps.

The thorough thrashing continued with Cyberpunk 2077 (Steam Deck Preset); the Z1 Extreme held an 11-fps advantage at 800p and a 5-fps advantage at 1200p. It was a similar story with Far Cry 6 (Medium settings) and Red Dead Redemption 2 (Lowest settings) – the Z1 Extreme held a 14-fps advantage in both games at 800p.

The most significant performance delta, however, was in Borderlands 3 (Medium settings). The Legion Go S with Z1 Extreme maintained an 18-fps advantage over the second-place competitor at 800p.

While the Legion Go S (Z1 Extreme, SteamOS) was the obvious star of the benchmark extravaganza, the co-star was no doubt the battle brewing between the Legion Go S with the Z2 Go running on Windows 11 versus SteamOS. There’s no question that SteamOS is a more lightweight operating system with fewer unnecessary processes running in the background to rob CPU cycles and RAM.

The SteamOS version of the system consistently outperformed its Windows 11 counterpart, and most of the time, the difference was substantial. The margin of victory was anywhere from 4 to 15 fps, depending on resolution. What makes the performance advantage even more notable is that the Legion Go S, running SteamOS, achieved equal performance on battery and AC power, and still dominated the Windows 11 version, which was running a maxed-out power profile (40 watts on AC power).

SteamOS on the Legion Go S (SteamOS)

We’ve already discussed the obvious performance advantages of running SteamOS versus Windows 11, but there’s also another benefit: the user interface. There’s no getting around the fact that Windows 11 was designed first and foremost as a desktop operating system. While you can run Windows 11 on a portable device with an 8-inch screen, various UI touchpoints can be hard to navigate with your finger.

Image 1 of 3

SteamOS, on the other hand, is easily navigated using your fingers. Buttons, menus, and UI elements are perfectly sized to respond appropriately to touch. From switching Steam profiles to changing Wi-Fi networks to configuring various system settings, it’s painless. Of course, you can also just navigate using the physical controls and buttons if you prefer. Either way, the UI experience is light years ahead of Windows 11, and makes sense for an operating system that was designed first and foremost for gaming.

Games load faster, the UI is faster, and you still have access to the underlying Linux operating system. By pressing and holding the power button, you can bring up a menu that allows you to switch to Desktop mode. In this instance, you have access to the KDE Plasma desktop.

Display on the Legion Go S ( SteamOS)

The Legion Go S features an 8-inch, 1920 x 1200 IPS display with a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz. Not surprisingly, our instrumented tests showed that our SteamOS-powered review unit didn’t stray too far from the results we obtained with our earlier Windows 11 sample.

All numbers were within a few percentage points of each other, except for brightness. We measured 82.4 percent coverage of DCI-P3 and 116.3 percent of sRGB. The most significant discrepancy was with maximum brightness, which measured 441 nits compared to 455.4 nits in our earlier review unit.

Even at 50 percent brightness (my preferred setting for personal gaming sessions), the IPS display was sufficiently bright and colorful. For example, the sunlight reflecting off muddy water on horse trails in Red Dead Redemption 2 stood out, as did the neon glow and smoke-filled environments of Cyberpunk 2077.

Audio on the Legion Go S (Ryzen Z1 Extreme, SteamOS)

I played a variety of games on the Legion Go S, including Red Dead Redemption 2, BeamNG, and older classics like Half-Life 2. The quality of the speakers didn’t bowl me over, but they worked well enough for gunfire and voices in Cyberpunk 2077, while engine sounds and gnarly crashes seemed realistic enough in BeamNG.

My biggest issue with the speakers is that the system fans often interfere with sound output. So, for the bulk of my gaming sessions, I used a pair of Bluetooth headphones. However, for the ultimate audio experience, I recommend opting for some of the best gaming headsets.

Upgradeability of the Legion Go S (Ryzen Z1 Extreme, SteamOS)

Just like the Windows 11 version of the Legion Go S, the SteamOS variant also features limited upgradeability. Accessing the inside requires removing three screws on the bottom edge of the device. You’ll then need to remove the plastic panel that surrounds the power and volume buttons. From there, one more screw must be removed, and then there’s the tricky process of taking off the triggers (which are held by two tiny screws). If you’ve managed to make it through this process without breaking any retaining clips, consider yourself lucky. But if you’ve made it this far, you can then remove the back panel, revealing the inside of the chassis.

The only hardware that’s upgradeable is the internal storage. Although our review unit came with a 1TB SSD already installed, you can upgrade to a larger 2242 or 2280 SSD.

Heat on the Lenovo Legion Go S (Ryzen Z1 Extreme, SteamOS)

While the fans on the Legion Go S were always audible when playing games (particularly in Performance mode), they were definitely doing their job. The console never felt hot to the touch and remained comfortable through all of my gaming sessions. All of the hot air was forcefully ejected through the exhaust vents at the top of the console.

The hottest part of the console was at the back, just right of center. Here, I measured 91 degrees Fahrenheit. However, it’s important to note that because of the way the hand grips are designed on the Legion Go S, you don’t actually touch this hot spot.

Battery Life on the Lenovo Legion Go S (Ryzen Z1 Extreme, SteamOS)

The Legion Go S features a 55.5 WHr battery, so I wasn’t expecting any miracles regarding endurance. However, I routinely achieved over 2 hours of battery life while running games with 50 percent brightness and maximum details at 800p resolution in Performance mode. For example, I played Red Dead Redemption 2 story mode for 2 hours and 5 minutes before the console conked out, while BeamNG gave up after 2 hours and 30 minutes.

If I’m being honest, two hours is about my limit for gaming sessions anyway. Between the rigors of work and dad-life, it’s hard to steal time away for some leisurely playtime. However, if you want to extend your play sessions, just plug in the included 65-watt power adapter. Still, you want a battery that will last a flight or a train ride.

For comparison, the last Legion Go S that I tested with the slower Ryzen Z2 Go processor and Windows 11 wouldn’t last longer than about an hour and 45 minutes in Performance mode. Only when dialing back to the Power Saving profile could I muster just over two hours of runtime.

Legion Go S (Ryzen Z1 Extreme, SteamOS) Configurations

The Steam-powered Legion Go S with the Ryzen Z2 Go processor starts at $599. At that price, you get 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and a 512GB SSD. However, our review unit came with the Ryzen Z1 Extreme, 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM, and a 1TB SSD, and it carries an eye-watering price tag of $829.

The Windows 11 version of the Legion Go S, featuring a Ryzen Z2 Go processor, 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM, and a 1TB SSD, is priced at $729.99.

Bottom Line

The last Legion Go S that I tested featured a Ryzen Z2 Go chip and ran Windows 11. While I praised its bright display and more ergonomic design over the original Legion Go, I lamented the pokey performance and poor value.

Our latest Legion Go S review unit, featuring the Ryzen Z1 Extreme and running SteamOS, most definitely addresses one of those concerns. Without a doubt, this machine ripped through our gaming benchmark suite and left all the other competitors in the dust. Not only does the Z1 Extreme offer higher performance levels (twice the number of CPU cores, a higher CPU boost clock, and a more stout GPU), but SteamOS also offers tangible performance benefits over Windows 11.

However, those performance benefits come with an even higher price tag. While the last Legion Go S (Windows 11) that we tested costs $729.99, our review unit stickers for $829.99. That’s a considerable sum of money for a gaming handheld. However, if there’s any consolation, the base SteamOS-powered Legion Go S with the Ryzen Z2 Go costs just $599. While you only get 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, gaming performance should be similar or better than the more expensive Windows 11 version of the handheld.

There’s no doubt that with its hardware performance, the Legion Go S running SteamOS and the Ryzen Z1 Extreme is among the best PC gaming handhelds. However, if it were money, I’d opt for the $599 Legion Go S with SteamOS, and add my own 2TB SSD to boost internal storage for games.

What is Match Masters?

Match Masters is a competitive matching game where you have five rounds to get the most matches, and the person with the highest score wins. You and your opponent will take turns matching shapes and colors on the board, and you’ll each get two matches per round.

You can use boosters to help clear shapes to add more points to your score, re-shuffle the board to help you find a match, or use the hammer to destroy a shape that may be blocking an epic match move.

And if you love mobile games, we regularly update our code pages for Brawlhalla, PUBG Mobile, and Pokémon Go.

OG Fortnite may have as many as 92 bots per match

by admin May 24, 2025

Has your competition in Fortnite ever felt a bit… off? If so, Epic’s minimum real player counts may be to blame. A leaker with a proven track record claims (via Polygon) that the game’s OG version can sometimes be populated with over 90 percent bots.

The leaker AllyJax used a Discord bot called The Dub to find the number. (Among its other features, the tool lets you count the number of real players in a lobby.) “The minimum real player count has been reduced from 25 to as low as 8 in Fortnite OG,” AllyJax wrote. “There is a probable chance you can have matches with 92 bots.”

AllyJax says this only applies to Fortnite OG. That’s the mode that lets you play the game’s original map as it was in 2017. (It also includes old-school loot and seasons.) Epic brought the game mode back for good in November after a 2023 trial.

Epic Games

In a vacuum, companies like Epic using bots isn’t necessarily a bad thing. For starters, they can be used to shorten wait times for matches. The AI rivals can also size up new players’ abilities, leading to better matchmaking.

Their counts can change over time as publishers weigh these factors against the number of people playing. (AllyJax suggests Fortnite‘s can change from month to month.) But being surrounded by as many as 92 bots and only seven other humans is… probably not what you signed up for.

Engadget emailed Epic for a confirmation or comment. At the time of publication, we haven’t heard back. But we’ll update this story if we do.

Cherry debuts new mechanical, magnetic, and inductive switches with a whole new naming scheme to match

by admin May 21, 2025

When we talk about mechanical keyboard switches, everything refers back to Cherry. Even if you’re using a different brand’s switches, often you’ll end up explaining them in terms of Cherry’s naming scheme; “These feel like low profile reds” or similar is often pretty common jargon when describing how a board might feel. This is all about to receive a refresh as Cherry debuts its new switches, complete with some new naming schemes at this year’s Computex.

Now when you’re looking at Cherry’s keyboards there’s three distinct sets you want to keep your eyes out for. First up, you have the MK Series which feature magnetic switches for that slick feel and price action. These are touted as being super precise for gamers, giving us a different option over the standard mechanical switch that has a frictionless feel.

Then there’s the new IK series, for those who prefer the contactless feel of inductive switches with electromagnetic sensors. Cherry has booked these as the most energy efficient switch of its kind using 50% less power than regular magnetic switches and 5% less than hall effect. Thanks to that contactless nature, these shouldn’t ever really wear out and that power consumption makes them a great partner for a wireless keyboard travel setup.

Last but never least, there’s the familiar MX. These are the mechanical switches Cherry is known for that feature in recent boards like the MX 8.2 TKL Xaga, which is quite the fancy board, indeed. The MX range is still getting a shake up though, with Cherry introducing a few new switches under the banner – The MX Honey, Blossom, and Falcon.

Honeys are set to be the quiet kid in the new MX lineup featuring Cherry’s first tactile MX switch that’s also silent. Despite the silent nature these are said to still give a great tactile feel so this is a great choice for office goers, streamers, or just people who like quiet keyboards that still feel satisfying to use. It’s me, I’m people.

The MX Blossom is set to be the ultra light feel switch. There’s some nice evocative imagery there of cherry blossom petals floating down, so I’m guessing that’s the feel Cherry is going for here. These are going to be ultra light, easy to press, and quick to respond, so are probably aiming to be the preference for typists, and gamers who like a softer touch.

Meanwhile the Falcon is the community-inspired switch, a bit like that beautiful northern lights set. This one is for gamers and keyboard users of all stripes who really want to know when that key has been pressed. I’m guessing rather like how a fish knows it’s done for when a peregrine swoops in. These are snappy and crisp, these are bound to be a clacky retro switch. This is the keyboard you bring into the office when you just don’t like your coworkers.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

All these switches are set to come out in June this year. If we don’t get our hot little fingers on these bad bois at Computex, we’ll be sure to let you know how they feel as soon as we do.
