Will you be gunning for Venom’s bubble pop skin?

Published: Jun 17, 2025 12:15 pm

Marvel Rivals’ season two is quickly coming to a close soon, but not without one last update for players to enjoy.

When the next update goes live at about 3am CT on June 19, it will add the Venom’s Bubble Pop event where players can unlock a pink Venom skin, hilariously adorable Jeff the Landshark emote, and free Future Foundation skin for Human Torch.

This is likely the last update for the game before season three begins on July 11. The marketing for the new season should begin soon, with in-game lore hinting at Jean Grey/Phoenix joining the roster as the next hero and Knull taking center stage as the season’s new villain.

Season three will likely bring sweeping changes to hero balancing, new team-ups, and more alongside new events, a new battle pass, and new storyline missions for players to progress the game’s overarching plot with.

Keep on scrolling to find out everything new and different coming to Marvel Rivals on June 19 and get ready for the new season coming in just a couple of weeks.

Limited-Time Event: Venom’s Bubble Pop

The Venom’s Bubble Pop event bursts onto the scene! Complete event missions to earn rewards, including the Human Torch: Future Foundation costume absolutely FREE!

Unlock the Premium edition to claim even more rewards, such as the Venom – Pink Bubble costume! Plus, once you unlock Premium, you gain permanent access to the event until all rewards are claimed. No time limit!

New Additions and Adjustments

  1. You can now set permissions for players joining Tournament Room Custom Games mid-match.

Fixes

All Platforms

  1. Fixed an issue where Faction icons displayed incorrectly during pre-match loading in Replay and Spectate modes.

Heroes

  1. Wolverine’s Wild Ride: We’ve put the lockdown on some of Logan’s lunacy where his Ultimate Ability could incorrectly also send enemies with Unstoppable status flying! Now, heroes in this state will not be getting on the Wolverine Express.
  2. Mister Fantastic’s Fantastic Fumble: Fixed a rare occurring error where Reed’s Flexible Elongation could sometimes incorrectly interact with the environment leading to self-inflicted terrain KOs worthy of a Baxter Building blooper reel. We’ve set his coordinates straight, no more accidental “Fantastic Flops!”
  3. Hulk’s Smash Sync: Squashed a bug in Hulk’s Incredible Leap charge bar UI where the display did not match actual progress. Now his leap will land with proper gamma-powered precision!
  4. Black Widow’s Bite Restored: Fixed a bug where Natasha’s Team-Up Ability Pulse Rifle didn’t damage destructible objects. Now, when Widow bites, nobody (or thing) in her way stands a chance!
  5. Ultron’s Overclocked Orders: Debugged a ghost in the machine where sometimes performing certain actions after using Ultron’s Imperative: Patch would cause it to glitch out and cancel the effect. Now his imperative is as unstoppable as his ambition.

Console

  1. Resolved an issue where global button remapping could incorrectly affect controls in Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol and Spectator mode.
  2. Fixed an issue on PlayStation where opening the friends list while playing an emote could cause lag.

Marvel Comparing Ironheart To Breaking Bad Could Mean Madness

Marvel Comparing Ironheart To Breaking Bad Could Mean Madness

by admin June 17, 2025

Marvel just can’t help itself. The house that Stan Lee built (and Kevin Feige turned into a mega mall of blockbusters) has been mashing characters from different universes together and making villains out of heroes for the better part of this decade. But this time, the comic book powerhouse may have gone off the deep end, as a Marvel executive alluded to Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) going the antihero route in the upcoming Ironheart miniseries, comparing her arc to—wait for it—those of Walter White in Breaking Bad and Tony Soprano in The Sopranos.

Ironheart’s New Trailer Delivers A Couple Cool Surprises

And now our imaginations are going to the strangest places.

Ironheart executive producer Sev Ohanian told SFX magazine that Ironheart viewers can expect the “brilliant yet flawed” Riri to find herself spiraling down a questionable path he’s not sure has ever been explored in the MCU. Seeing as Thunderbolts recently had a superhero’s internalized depression send people to the shadow realm, I wonder how much darker the MCU can get. Unlike the Thunderbolts, Riri’s dark side might be a bit more grounded in reality.

“She kind of breaks bad in the show, and we go to some uncomfortable places for audiences that I think will be really fun to explore, almost in the vein of Walter White from Breaking Bad or Tony Soprano,” Ohanian said.

Yes, somehow Marvel has seemingly found some connection between a teen superhero and two of the most despicable criminals in 21st-century television history. For those unaware, Walter White broke bad when the underpaid and undervalued high school chemistry teacher was diagnosed with terminal cancer and became determined to not die without building an empire that would help his family and outlast him. That empire turned out to be made of meth. Tony Soprano was already bad but spent six incredible seasons trying to reconcile his violent mob boss life with his desire to be a good person.

Honest question: What the fuck does that have to do with Ironheart? I’m not entirely sure, but this does open the door to some unhinged possibilities.

As the heir apparent to Tony Stark’s iron throne, the MIT student could follow the morally dubious path he laid out when he was selling weapons that ended up in terrorist hands. Alternatively, the young woman who created a way to detect vibranium could go full Heisenberg and find a way to turn the Wakandan export into an injectable drug to help impoverished people around her gain a fighting chance against the cops. Noble intent, but it will just lead to drug-dealing flying robots everywhere like those annoying Amazon Scouts. I also wouldn’t put it past her to become so drunk with power that, like Walt, she spends an entire episode using every weapon she has to exterminate a pesky fly in her workshop.

There’s also a world in which she realizes these suits she’s creating cost a lot of money and just unleashes swarms of robot drones to break into banks while she’s telling kids to get good grades and stay in school. Can you imagine Riri needing to go to therapy like Tony Soprano? She also could just start killing people to avenge her dad’s death.

There is some comic book precedent for her not-so-good streak. In the comics, she grows distant and emotionally detached from her fellow superhero allies, opting to focus more on tackling the Ten Rings organization and the mystery of her father’s death than mending any personal relationships. She even beats a villain so badly in a fight that her teammates are concerned she could one day kill someone. That sounds like she could easily break bad.

We’ll see how closely she resembles the two iconic TV show villains when Ironheart hits Disney+ on June 24.

Nintendo Switch 2 Supports These Discounted Marvel Controllers In Handheld Mode

Nintendo Switch 2 Supports These Discounted Marvel Controllers In Handheld Mode

by admin June 14, 2025

It’s only a matter of time before an accessory manufacturer releases an alternative handheld controller designed for Nintendo Switch 2. Controllers like Hori’s officially licensed Split Pad Pro/Compact and CRKD’s Nitro Deck became popular choices for those seeking better ergonomics and customization features. But you actually don’t have to wait to ditch the Joy-Con 2. I’ve spent the past few days playing the Switch 2 in handheld mode with the versatile GameSir G8 Plus Galileo Bluetooth Controller.

The G8 Plus has an extendable cradle like the Backbone Pro, Razer Kishi V3 Pro, and many other mobile controllers. Where it differs from most is that it offers Nintendo Switch support in addition to iOS and Android. Store pages haven’t been updated to mention Switch 2, but I’ve spent the past few days using the G8 Plus and can confirm it offers the same functionality on Nintendo’s new console.

So far, I’ve found that the G8 Plus works well on Switch 2 and has several features beyond improved ergonomics that make it a compelling alternative: back buttons, Hall Effect sticks, swappable components, a traditional D-pad, and Marvel-themed designs.

GameSir collaborated with Marvel to create officially licensed models themed around Hulk and Thanos. Both Marvel editions are currently on sale for $80 at Walmart. If you don’t like Marvel, the standard black version is available for the same price at Amazon.

$80 (was $100)

Here’s a quick look at the core features found on the G8 Plus Galileo. The specs are the same whether you pick the standard black edition or one of the two licensed Marvel models.

Key Features:

  • Platforms: Switch 2, Switch, iOS, Android
  • Supports devices up to 8.46 inches
  • Connects wirelessly via Bluetooth
  • Up to 8 hours of battery life (USB-C charging)
  • Hall Effect sticks
  • 2 remappable back buttons
  • Removable faceplates
  • 5 swappable sticks
  • Swappable face buttons
  • 6-axis gyro motion controls
  • Dual rumble motors
  • Two trigger modes
  • Ergonomic, textured grips
  • Extendable bridge with rubberized base/sides

The standard black version of the G8 Plus uses a similar shade of black as the Switch 2 console. The $80 deal is sold by the manufacturer and ships from Amazon. The G8 Plus previously retailed for $80, but it now carries a $100 MSRP.

You can check out the pair of Marvel-themed models below and then read more about the controller’s core features.

$80 (was $100)

The officially licensed Incredible Hulk Edition is also available for $80 (was $100) at Walmart. The controller is sold by GameSir and ships from Walmart.

The Hulk Edition uses a vibrant green color accented by a few pieces of purple artwork. It’s a more subdued design than many themed controllers, since the artwork was designed to blend in with the base colors.

All five sticks and the D-pad match the darker green found on the back of the controller. The face buttons are purple (A and B) and green (X and Y). Hulk’s name is outlined in purple across the back and punctuated by his fist.

$80 (was $100)

If you’d rather have a controller themed around The Mad Titan, the Thanos Edition is officially licensed by Marvel and available for $80 (was $100) at Walmart. Like the Hulk model, it ships from Walmart and is sold by GameSir.

The Thanos Edition has a gold and purple color scheme. The front is accented by glossy gold artwork, and the back is purple with “Thanos” written in large block letters across the center.

The face buttons are purple and gold (two of each), and the D-pad and triggers match the glossy gold accents. It comes with one purple stick and four gold sticks.

GameSir G8 Plus Galileo

The G8 Plus is equipped with Hall Effect sticks that feel smooth and precise. Hall Effect sensors are considered “anti-drift,” so they should hold up well over time. The Joy-Con 2 Controllers have ALPS sticks, and some users have already started experiencing problems with drift.

As mentioned, there are several other features that make it a compelling option for Switch 2. It has a pair of remappable back buttons, one on each side, and a traditional D-pad. The back buttons can be remapped on the controller itself or in GameSir’s mobile app.

It also has a 6-axis gyroscope for motion controls and rumble motors on each side. With a more traditional controller form factor, the G8 Plus has better ergonomics than the Joy-Con 2.

The face buttons have the Xbox Controller layout, so A/B and X/Y are flipped. By default, Nintendo consoles will register the buttons as they are labeled, which may confuse some players. But there are two solutions to this problem. The G8 Plus has hot-swappable face buttons and sticks, allowing users to remove the faceplate, pop off the button caps, and switch their positions. If you don’t want to do this every time you switch between playing on mobile and Switch 2, you can enable “Switch mode” by holding the program button (M) and A. In this mode, the Switch registers A/B and X/Y as opposites.

GameSir G8 Plus with Nintendo Switch 2

Inside the box, you’ll find three additional stick caps that can replace the traditional sticks that come preinstalled. The trio of alternatives includes a domed model, a tall stick for FPS games, and a short stick with a smaller cap. Speaking of FPS games, you can enable hair trigger mode, which actuates the right and left triggers with shorter pulls.

There are a couple potential downsides to keep in mind when using the G8 Plus with the Switch 2. While the grip holds the Switch 2 securely in place and has a rubberized bridge and pads on each side to help prevent scratches, it doesn’t connect to the console like the Joy-Con controllers. When carrying the console around, you probably want to make sure you are holding the Switch 2 itself, not just the grip. Due to the Switch 2’s size, the edges extend beyond the top and bottom of the grips, leaving them exposed. You may want to add a protective shell to the Switch 2 when using the controller. Additionally, keep in mind that you will need to remove the Switch 2 from the cradle to dock it.

I often use the G8 Plus when gaming on iPhone. Platform versatility is a major perk here. It’s inevitable that manufacturers will release handheld Switch 2 controllers, but it’s unlikely many of them will work with other devices. So even if you wind up purchasing a different controller or adding an ergonomic grip to the console, the G8 Plus doesn’t need to collect dust. You can even use it as a wireless controller on Switch 2 (or Switch) when playing on your TV.

10 Ironheart Cameos That Marvel Needs To Make Happen

by admin June 13, 2025

Image: Marvel

Tony Stark is dead, and unlike in the comics, Riri has never interacted with him or even acknowledged his existence. Even though we see Riri pounding away at metal to shape her suit, mirroring Stark in the first Iron Man movie, a passing of the repulsor baton would not only be appropriate, it would also connect the show to its comic book roots. In the comic, Riri is mentored by a Tony Stark AI program. While Riri will likely have a holographic AI companion based on her deceased best friend, played by Lyric Ross, there are some problems only Stark can solve.

It would be cool if Riri were faced with a seemingly impossible obstacle with one of her suits, a situation that could lead to Gwyneth Paltrow returning to the MCU as Penny Potts, bringing with her the answer. It’s not far-fetched to think Stark has terabytes of instructional videos about how to not only build and maintain those Iron Man armors but also bring some of his wildest ideas to life. Remember, he left a lifelike holographic message to be played after his death in Avengers: Endgame—a proper tearjerker of a scene. Stark wouldn’t be back in the flesh, but he would help usher in his successor while reminding us of the Tony Stark we once knew. You know, before Doctor Doom changes all of that in Avengers: Doomsday.

Marvel Snap Players Can Grab A Free Premium Card Right Now

by admin June 11, 2025

Marvel Snap developer Second Dinner is now the official publisher of the free-to-play card game, and to celebrate, the studio will be giving out a few freebies through its newly launched Web Shop.

The game was previously published by Nuverse, and Second Dinner says that the new digital storefront will give players more control over their purchases and offer bonus rewards not available in the iOS, Android, and PC in-game shops. To kick things off, players can log into the Web Shop and claim the following free items with the promo code WEBLAUNCH.

  • 1 x Premium Mystery Variant
  • 1 x Premium Mystery Border
  • 3 x high-value one-time purchase bundles
  • Daily Free Claim Boost: 200 Credits per day

The freebies available here are pretty good, as these items normally cost quite a bit when using the in-game “Gold” currency. A Premium Mystery variant on its own costs 800 Gold, and that’s a sum that typically takes around a month to earn in the game if you don’t buy the monthly season pass. Also on the horizon is a weekly promotional event called Web Shop Wednesdays, and players will be able to claim a free Common Mystery Border for one of their cards. A $5 bundle will also be offered, and this includes a Common Mystery Border and 600 Gold.

Second Dinner has made several big changes to Marvel Snap since it first launched in 2022, with one of the biggest being a complete overhaul of how cards are acquired. Players can now earn Collector’s Tokens that can be used to purchase cards, and regular play makes it easy enough to unlock at least one of the older cards every week. The newer cards require more grinding, but earning them is still much easier compared to the older system that was in place.

Marvel Snap’s current season, Masters of the Arcane, also began earlier this month, and it focuses on several of Marvel’s mystical characters like Merlin, Morgan Le Fay, and Nicholas Scratch.

Game Maker’s Sketchbook is selling art from Indiana Jones, Marvel Rivals and more for good causes

by admin June 8, 2025

Game Maker’s Sketchbook has announced its official 2025 selection of video game art for sale, with all proceeds from print purchases benefiting the non-profit organisations the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Foundation and Day of the Devs.

This year’s pieces are taken from games like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Marvel Rivals, Sorry We’re Closed, The Midnight Walk, Black Mirror: Thronglets, IKUMA – The Frozen Compass, and Riven.

Developers were invited to submit their work for selection, with the finalists broken down into the categories Character Art, Curiosities, Environment Art, Iconography, Impact, and Storyboard.

Sales of work from the games mentioned above benefit the AIAS Foundation directly, while a portion of proceeds from a spectacular original game character mash-up piece by artist Nimit Malavia specifically goes to Day of the Devs, which just hosted its latest showcase of top-tier indie games on June 6.

Celebrating the variety of incredible art produced across the industry, Game Maker’s Sketchbook is an initiative by the AIAS Foundation, iam8bit, and PR agency fortyseven communications.

This represents the fourth year the initiative has been running. The selected pieces are currently being displayed in a gallery at Summer Game Fest’s Play Days event.

Find the pieces for sale here, and a selection of highlights in the gallery below. The prints will be available to purchase until July 7.

Marvel and Arc System Works announce Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls

Marvel and Arc System Works announce Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls

by admin June 5, 2025

Marvel Games and Arc System Works are creating an original new fighting game with Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, a 4v4 tag-fighter. Arc showed off the new game during Sony’s State of Play event on Wednesday, with a hype teaser trailer showing off the gorgeous game.

Anime interpretations of characters such as Iron Man, Captain America, Ms. Marvel, Storm, Star-Lord, Ghost Rider, Spider-Man, and Doctor Doom are seen in the clip fighting with over-the-top attacks and finishers. Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will be released for PlayStation 5 and Windows PC in 2026.

The 2.5D fighter is a new direction for Marvel fighting games, as Marvel’s heroes and villains have historically been associated with Capcom.

Capcom and Marvel first worked together in 1993, with the release of the beat-’em-up game The Punisher. The game’s success led to a fruitful relationship between the two companies throughout the ’90s, with iconic titles like Marvel Super Heroes (1995), X-Men vs Street Fighter (1996), and Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter (1997). This series of games kick started the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise, which yielded four titles, with the last game being the commercial failure that was 2017’s Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite — a game devoid of X-Men or any other character owned by 20th Century Fox at the time.

Capcom and Marvel most recently worked together on 2024’s Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics. The move made fans believe that a potential fourth MvC game was on the way, and while it still could happen, it appears Marvel has other plans for its fighting game endeavors.

Get Free Marvel Rivals Skins From Season 2.5’s Cerebro Database Event, Combat Chest and More

by admin June 1, 2025

Marvel Rivals season 2.5 is moving the Hellfire Gala afterparty to space — our heroes are heading to the sentient planet Arakko to prevent Ultron’s planet-exterminating plans from coming to fruition.

Stopping a robot army is going to require a whole new wardrobe’s worth of battle gear. Luckily for you, there are many ways to unlock some free skins in the hit hero shooter right now — including a new seasonal event that unlocks a free Hawkeye skin.

The Cerebro Database Part 2 event is the debut seasonal event for Marvel Rivals season 2.5, and it’s a fairly standard challenge-based event. Different rewards include chrono tokens for the battle pass, units to spend on shop skins and other odds and ends, but the big ticket item is the Hawkeye Binary Arrow skin.

Outside of the latest event, there are still other ways to earn free skins right now. Whether you’re getting used to the new suite of team-up abilities or you’re getting in more playtime on the latest addition to the Strategist roster by beaming down enemies with Ultron, season 2.5 has introduced a slate of free skins that you can use to deck out your favorite characters.

Here’s what you should know about the Cerebro Database Part 2 event and the rest of the free skin lineup at the beginning of Marvel Rivals season 2.5.

Get the Hawkeye Binary Arrow skin free in the Cerebro Database Part 2 event

The Cerebro Database event is live now. It began with the launch of the season 2.5 patch on May 30 and ends on June 27.

While this event is fairly easy, the presentation might confuse some players. As with any Marvel Rivals event, you’ll need to complete challenges to earn rewards. In this event, though, each featured character (Iron Man, Black Widow, Magneto and Ultron) has nine unique challenges arranged in a 3×3 board.

The new Cerebro Database event plays out just like the previous one — including the annoying time-gated challenges.

NetEase Games/Screenshot by CNET

You don’t need to complete all 36 challenges to receive all of the event rewards. Instead, you need to complete enough challenges to make three separate horizontal, vertical or diagonal lines on all four boards to finish the event. Basically, you’re playing tic-tac-toe to quickly make three lines on all of the boards to earn your rewards as efficiently as possible.

Like most Marvel Rivals events, several characters’ boards are time-gated, which means that the most enterprising players will only be able to unlock the Hawkeye Binary Arrow skin starting on June 11. Until then, you can earn Chrono Tokens, units, sprays and gallery pages.

The Combat Chest is a new type of battle pass — it’s a more traditional experience-based progression system.

NetEase Games/Screenshot by CNET

Get the Mister Fantastic Future Foundation skin during the first ever Combat Chest event

A new type of experience-based battle pass also launched at the beginning of season 2.5. The Combat Chest is a smaller, half-season battle pass that rewards consistent playtime over challenge completion. The free track contains one costume, while the premium Combat Chest (which costs 690 Lattice, or roughly $7) has two additional costume rewards.

It contains 24 reward tiers and each reward tier requires 1,800 experience points to unlock. Players can earn a maximum of 7,200 experience points every day, so it’s theoretically possible to earn every Combat Chest reward in six days. The free Mister Fantastic Future Foundation skin is on tier 18 of the Combat Chest so it will take the most enterprising players four days to unlock the new addition to the body-bending hero’s wardrobe.

Premium skin rewards include Storm Ultimate Wind-Rider on tier 6 and Magneto Binary Sword on tier 24 of the Combat Chest. The first version of this shortened alternate battle pass will disappear July 11 at the end of season 2 but any players who purchase the premium version can continue unlocking any remaining tiers after that date.

How can I get free skins during Marvel Rivals season 2.5?

Players who link their Twitch account to their Marvel Rivals account right now can nab a free Emma Frost skin.

But if you only care about rewards you can earn in-game, a different Emma Frost skin and an Ultron skin are available by progressing through the competitive ladder and new Iron Fist and Magik looks are available free on the season 2 battle pass.

The immortal Iron Fist goes toe-to-toe with Doctor Strange in his new free battle pass skin.

NetEase Games

What Marvel Rivals skins are available free right now?

There are currently 11 free skins available. Here’s how you get them:

  • Hawkeye Binary Arrow: Complete the Cerebro Database Part 2 event challenges on all four characters by June 27 to unlock this skin.
  • Mister Fantastic Future Foundation: Complete 18 tiers of the current Combat Chest battle pass by July 11 to unlock this skin.
  • Emma Frost Will of Galacta: To claim this skin, you’ll need to link a Twitch account to your Marvel Rivals account and then watch four hours of livestreams from streamers participating in the drop campaign. If you’re unsure about which channels are partnered with Marvel Rivals, look for the mention of “Drops” in the stream title. This skin is only available until Friday, June 27.
  • Emma Frost Golden Diamond: Reach Gold rank or higher in competitive mode in season 2. You must play at least 10 competitive matches to be eligible to receive the skin.
  • Ultron Golden Ultron: Reach Gold rank or higher in competitive mode in season 2.5. You must play at least 10 competitive matches to be eligible to receive the skin.
  • Magik Retro X-Uniform: Reach page 3 in the season 2 battle pass by July 11.
  • Iron Fist Immortal Weapon of Agamotto: Reach page 9 in the season 2 battle pass by July 11.

Four of the currently available free skins are not time-gated although they are locked behind achievements or platform exclusivity. Here are the Marvel Rivals skins you can unlock at any time:

  • Spider-Man Scarlet Spider: This skin is available to PS Plus subscribers who play the game on the PS5. It can be found on the PSN Store under Marvel Rivals DLC.
  • Peni Parker Ven#m: Like the Scarlet Spider skin, this Ven#m skin is available for PS Plus subscribers and can be found in the PSN Store. This skin is also available in the Marvel Rivals in-game store, where it can be purchased with units.
  • Storm Ivory Breeze: Earn 200 Achievement Points in the Heroic Journey achievement section.
  • Star-Lord Jovial Star: Earn 400 Achievement Points in the Heroic Journey achievement section.

A classic X-Man look for Magik is available free on the Season 2 battle pass.

NetEase Games

How can I get more free Marvel Rivals skins?

There are many ways to get skins in Marvel Rivals. Sometimes the developer issues special codes to unlock them while others require completing challenges. There are also some made available by watching streams on Twitch and many skins are “free” for progressing through the Marvel Rivals Battle Pass, which costs 990 Lattice, or approximately $10.

You can also earn skins through regularly playing the game, as a free skin is frequently awarded with the completion of seasonal events. Players who reach gold rank or higher in competition also receive a free skin as a reward for their performance. Live events like Cerebro Database include free skins as a completion reward.

What free skins used to be available in Marvel Rivals?

Twitch drops, battle passes and promo codes get cycled in and out of rotation, allowing Marvel Rivals players to earn different free skins from engaging with the game during different events. Here are all of the previously available free skins, what season they were introduced in and how they were obtainable.

EA, fresh from killing a big Marvel game, reassures fans it still has three other Marvel projects it could kill in the future

by admin May 31, 2025

Yesterday, EA announced it was cancelling its in-development Black Panther game, and closing down Cliffhanger Games, the studio making it. But don’t worry gang, EA and Marvel have come forward to reassure fans that there are still other games in development that have yet to be suddenly and unceremoniously killed.

In a statement to IGN, an EA spokesperson provided the following quote, which was attributed to EA Entertainment president Laura Miele: “Our partnership with Marvel remains strong and our multi-title, long-term collaboration continues.” In addition, a Marvel statement was also recived by IGN, which reads as follows:

“The multi-title, long-term relationship between Marvel Games and EA, a creative collaboration focused on original storytelling with various, beloved Marvel characters, remains strong. Development of our console and PC titles, beginning with Marvel’s Iron Man, is led by Motive Studios.”

IGN would follow up to clarify whether or not this still meant that three Marvel games were in development as part of the original deal signed by both Marvel and EA back in 2023, and were told that is indeed the case. This includes an upcoming Iron Man game in the works over at Motive Studios.

The problem with this is that EA has been on such a roll recently when it comes to shutting down games, projects that it’s already spent millions upon millions of dollars on for nothing, that it’s somewhat hard to get overly excited about games we’ve not seen much of. Already this year it has killed various projects at Respawn including a new Titanfall game, so can you really expect folks to get excited?

And all the while, the people actually making these games have to sit down at their workdesk and trust that their team will be fine, even as entire offices are walking out the door with cardboard box in hand. It sucks dude! You want to reassure people that EA are still making games? Try releasing one!

EA's Black Panther game reportedly cancelled and studio closed, resulting in more layoffs

Despite Black Panther cancellation, EA confirms it still has “at least three” Marvel games in the works

by admin May 29, 2025

Following EA’s decision to pull the plug on its Black Panther game and close the studio making it, the publisher has insisted the move doesn’t reflect a change to its partnership with Marvel, and confirmed it still has “at least three” additional Marvel games in development.

Little had been revealed of EA’s Black Panther game since its announcement in 2023, and word of its cancellation – alongside yet more layoffs at the company – arrived earlier this week. Commenting on the decision to end development in an email to employees, EA Entertainment president Laura Miele said the move would help the publisher “sharpen our focus and put our creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities”.

Miele also stressed developer EA Motive’s Iron Man game was unaffected, but Black Panther’s cancellation – which comes as the publisher continues a planned retreat away from “future licensed IP” – had some commentators wondering if the company’s previously announced three-game deal with Marvel could be wrapping up prematurely.

Now, however, EA has confirmed to IGN that not only is the deal alive and well, the company is still working on “at least three” Marvel games following Black Panther’s termination. “The multi-title, long-term relationship between Marvel Games and EA… remains strong,” an EA spokesperson told the publication. “Development of our console and PC titles, beginning with Marvel’s Iron Man, is led by Motive Studios.”

Black Panther’s cancellation and subsequent job cuts follow a string of similar incidents at EA this year. In April, the company laid off more than 300 employees, with Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi studio Respawn Entertainment losing around 100 staff. At the same time, EA cancelled a number of in-development projects – reportedly including a new Titanfall game – as part of what it called a “continued focus on our long-term strategic priorities”. Still more layoffs were confirmed last month, following EA’s decision to end its licensing partnership with the WRC.

A second Black Panther project unconnected with EA – Skydance Games’ Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, from Uncharted writer Amy Hennig – was recently delayed into next year.
