EA Sports FC 26’s first patch is here with a nerf to Low Driven Shots, and a fix for that Manager Career bug that had players abandoning the team

The early access period of EA Sports FC 26 appears to be chugging along nicely, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any issues to address. The game’s first official patch, version 1.0.2, is now live with a host of changes.

The bulk of the changes in this update affect AI players, as well as Low Driven Shots. Interestingly, some of the tweaks address feedback made all the way back in the game’s closed beta.

Update 1.0.2’s biggest change is a nerf to Low Driven Shots, making them less accurate when shooting with extreme power. Difficult to perform Driven Ground Passes have also been made less accurate, such as those taken at 180 degrees.

There are also a number of changes to the AI, particularly when attacking and positioning. Wingers will now make attacking runs into the box more often, and Wing Backs will stop dropping too deep in their own half of the pitch when their team is in possession.

The patch fixed a bug that would sometimes cause AI players to not make runs into open spaces when they should, too, and improved their “offside awareness.” One of the more amusing bugs that the patch also fixed has to do with Manager Career players leaving the team during sims. Gameplay

  • Tuned Low Driven Shots based on your feedback in the Closed Beta to be less accurate when shooting with an extreme amount of power.
  • As part of our AI attacking updates based on your feedback, made the the following changes:
  • Increased frequency of wingers making attacking runs into the box.
  • Wing Backs will no longer drop too deep in their own half when their team is in possession.
  • Improved teammate offside awareness.
  • Addressed instances of players not making runs into open space when it could be beneficial.
  • Improved positioning of players when playing with low defensive depth so that they’re not pushing too high up the pitch.
  • Center Backs are now less likely to run wide when marking central attackers.
  • False Backs now transition more intelligently to defense to better maintain defensive shape.
  • A goalkeeper dive indicator now displays where an incoming shot is coming from.
  • Changed the Camera Pan input based on your feedback and to avoid button conflicts.
  • As shared on the EASFC Tracker, we’re continuing to work on Be A Goalkeeper updates to improve the gameplay experience. We’ll share more details in the near future.
  • Improved cases of unexpected heavy touches when sprinting in wet weather Authentic gameplay based on your feedback.
  • Improved instances of Ground Passes unexpectedly falling behind the intended receiver.
  • Tuned difficult to perform Driven Ground Passes to be less accurate, for example, first time Driven Ground Passes taken at 180 degrees.
  • Addressed incorrect shooting animations that sometimes occurred when attempting lace shots, resulting in unexpected behavior.

Ultimate Team

Addressed the following issues:

  • Players weren’t always able to enter multiplayer gameplay after accepting a Co-Op invite.
  • Player Item portraits were sometimes misaligned on the Squad screen.
  • A stability issue could have occurred after completing the Onboarding and viewing your Squad for the first time.

Career Mode

Addressed the following issue:

  • Players could’ve incorrectly left your club when simming through the calendar.

General audio and visual

Made the following changes:

  • Updated some star heads, kits, and placeholder text/images.

Addressed the following issues:

  • [PC Only] Adjusting display settings while in Borderless could have unintentionally resulted in performance loss.
  • [PC Only] Addressed a few instances of controllers not recognizing inputs. We will continue to investigate this and other reported PC issues and provide updates in the near future.
  • Addressed a number of stability issues that could have occurred.

FC 26 has been live for Ultimate Edition owners for several days now, but it officially goes live for everyone else tomorrow, or today if you’re on PC. Ready or Not studio fires community manager for saying ‘nothing of value was lost’ following Charlie Kirk’s shooting

Void Interactive, developer of the controversial SWAT simulator Ready or Not, has confirmed that it has terminated its community manager following an uproar over a comment they made in the game’s Discord about Charlie Kirk’s murder.

As reported by Kotaku, the comment was made after the community manager, known as Kaminsky, was asked to add variations of Kirk’s name to the list of filtered words on the Discord server. “Funny you mention that because me and my roommate are literally just talking about him getting shot,” Kaminsky replied. “All I have to say is: Nothing of value was lost.”

Images of the comment were quickly shared on Reddit and social media channels, along with demands that Kaminsky be fired. Void Interactive very quickly complied: Kaminsky was removed from the Discord server and their presence largely scrubbed from Void Interactive’s website, and just ahead of the weekend the studio posted a message on Steam saying Kaminsky was gone.

Kaminsky’s dismissal came at roughly the same time as that of Drew Harrison, an artist at Ghost of Yotei studio Sucker Punch, who was fired after nearly 10 years for writing, “I hope the shooter’s name is Mario so that Luigi knows his bro got his back”—a reference to Luigi Mangione, the prime suspect in the 2024 murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson—shortly after Kirk was shot.

Earlier today, Storm Lancers developer ProbablyMonsters announced that it too had fired someone for making comments it said “were offensive and violated our social media policy.” Other studios, including Blizzard and Bethesda, have also been targeted by campaigns calling for similar crackdowns on employees making negative comments about Kirk.

Void Interactive ends “relationship” with Ready or Not community manager over Charlie Kirk comments

Ready or Not developer, Void Interactive, has ended its “relationship” with the game’s community manager, following comments they made about the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk in the tactical FPS’s official Discord server.

As reported by Kotaku, Ready or Not’s community manager, known as ‘Kaminsky’, was asked last week to add variations of “Charlie Kirk” to the server’s filtered words list.

In response, Kaminsky replied: “I just did Charlie. Funny you mention that because me and my roommate are literally just talking about him getting shot. All I have to say is: Nothing of value was lost.”

“Yeah but that’s not our official position,” replied a server moderator.

Following the post, multiple users on X posted screenshots of the exchange, calling for Void Interactive to take action over the comments.

On September 19, 2025, Void Interactive posted a statement from its official X account (and on Steam) addressing the comments and announcing it had “ended” its “relationship” with Kaminsky.

“We are aware of comments made by our community manager about a recent traffic event,” the statement reads. “These statements do not reflect our values or represent our company.”

“We have ended our relationship with this individual and reminded our team of the responsibility we all share when communicating on public platforms,” the post continued.

“Our focus remains on fostering a respectful and professional community around Ready or Not.”

When GamesIndustry.biz asked for further comment on this, including confirmation on whether Kaminsky was a full-time Void Interactive employee or volunteer, a spokesperson pointed us toward the Steam statement and said: “The team at Void Interactive would like to stand by the message they posted on the Steam Page.”

Last week, Sucker Punch Productions fired a senior artist on Ghost of Yotei over a joke she made about Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated during a speaking event on September 10, 2025.

Ready Or Not Community Manager Fired Over Charlie Kirk Comment

The community manager for the popular and controversial online SWAT simulator Ready Or Not was fired after posting in the game’s official Discord server that “nothing of value was lost” following the recent assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.

On or around September 17, Ready Or Not’s community manager, known online as Kaminsky, was asked to add “Charlie Kirk” and a few variations of the name to the server’s list of filtered words. Kaminsky confirmed they had done so, but then shared their own personal thoughts about Kirk, who was murdered at a speaking event on September 10 in Utah. The community manager posted:

“Funny you mention that because me and my roomate are literally just talking about him getting shot. All I have to say is: Nothing of value was lost.”

Screenshots and posts of this comment were quickly shared online by fans of Kirk and right-wing content creators, with many demanding that Void Interactive fire the manager.  And that’s exactly what Void did.

On Friday, a Void Interactive representative confirmed in Ready Or Not‘s official Discord server that the studio had “ended” its “relationship” with Kaminsky. It’s unclear if the community manager was a full-time employee or a volunteer.  Before the news was official, fans had spotted that Kaminisky, often referred to as Kam online, was no longer listed as being a part of the server. One Discord user in the game’s server claimed that a sticker emoji featuring Kaminsky had also been removed.

Kotaku reached out to Void Interactive for comment. Kaminsky could not immediately be contacted.

“To Our Ready or Not Community, We are aware of comments made by our community manager about a recent tragic event,” posted Void Interactive rep Gerby on Discord.  “These statements do not reflect our values or represent our company. We have ended our relationship with this individual and reminded our team of the responsibility we all share when communicating on public platforms. Our focus remains on fostering a respectful and professional community around Ready or Not.”

This isn’t the first video game industry employee to lose their job after saying the wrong thing about Kirk’s recent murder. Last week, a developer working on Ghost of Yotei was fired by Sony after making a joke about Kirk’s alleged assassin. The alleged killer’s connection to video games has become a big part of the story around Kirk’s murder, with reports that some of the assassin’s bullets had messages etched into them referencing Helldivers 2. Meanwhile, ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel is also facing pressure to apologize after comments he made about Kirk got his show pulled “indefinitely” on Thursday.

Updated: 9/19/2025, 3:30 p.m. ET: When asked for further comment, Void Interactive PR pointed Kotaku to the studio’s previously mentioned statement, which has also been posted on Ready or Not‘s Steam page.

Football Manager player numbers are through the roof thanks to subscription platforms like Game Pass and Netflix – series boss Miles Jacobson explains how

“It was five, six years ago we celebrated two million players for the first time,” Miles Jacobson tells me, during our lengthy interview with the studio head at Football Manager developer Sports Interactive’s office earlier this summer. Checking that reference, it was indeed 2020 when the studio first announced that figure, with some pride. “And then we’ve really embraced the subscription platforms…”

Those platforms – Xbox Game Pass, PS Plus, Apple Arcade, Netflix and more – have had a marked effect on the series. From 2 million players in 2020, the series’ playerbase has skyrocketed. “As I sit here today,” Jacobson says, in the late summer, “and because I haven’t been on social media these numbers haven’t been [publicly] updated for a long time, so I’m glad you’re sitting down – as of when I last checked, we’re at 19.09 million players. Of which, 7.5 million have played for more than five hours. If you play a game for more than five hours, you tend to play for a lot longer.”

Of those, 2 million people played the game in the month of June alone, Jacobson goes on. “That’s for a game that has been out since November 2023.”

While going through the figures, Jacobson brings up a dashboard on the giant screen he has in his office. Total playtime: 1.7bn hours, for FM24 alone. Average playtime: 118.8 hours, “including all the people that have subscribed and played for an hour and then not come back.” Without those, that figure’s in the many hundreds.

And then the one that stood out the most to me: FM24, as of late this summer, actually had slightly more regular daily players than when it first came out. Two years after release, with no FM25 after that game’s shock cancellation and no additional, official updates or data patches to fill the gap, FM24 is effectively bigger than it’s ever been.

“We have nine times as many players; we have two and a half times the revenue,” Jacobson says, before adding quite understandably: “So we’re really happy with the partnerships.”

Those kinds of partnerships have been in the spotlight of late. Back in July, for instance, Arkane Studios founder Raphael Colantonio called Game Pass the “elephant in the room” of the conversation around Xbox parent company Microsoft’s large-scale layoffs. He referred to it then as an “unsustainable model that has been increasingly damaging the industry for a decade, subsidised by ‘infinite money’, but at some point reality has to hit.” He added, “I don’t think it can co-exist with other models, they’ll either kill everyone else, or give up.”

The sentiment has some backing – in a continued conversation on X with Michael Douse, director of publishing at Baldur’s Gate 3 studio Larian, who broadly echoed those points, Colantonio continued: “I’m fed up with all the bs they fed us at first like ‘don’t worry, it doesn’t impact the sales’, only to admit years later that it totally does.”

It all makes for interesting context for Football Manager’s huge success, something Jacobson attributes quite directly to subscriptions. FM is a relatively unique series of course, in that it’s annualised, has theoretically different audience to ‘core’ games, and is available on such a wide array of platforms, from PC and consoles to tablets and mobile. Nevertheless, Jacobson says there are specific things the studio has done to ensure its success on subscription services.

“We built a whole business model around it,” he says. “You can’t just turn around and do this – this was before we launched on the subscription platforms, we’d been talking about it. And we’d been working out what we were going to do for five years – it was a five-year journey before we went with the first experiment, and then we did another experiment, and then we did another experiment, and then we learned from those experiments, and that’s when the full strategy was put in place.”

Part of that strategy is in building up what Jacobson called a “long-term addressable audience”. In other words: those players who play the game for more than five hours. Essentially they become a kind of insurance against subscription revenue suddenly going away. “If the platforms decided they didn’t want us anymore, we would know that we have a lot more consumers to talk to,” Jacobson explains.

As for that revenue, the specifics of the deals these kinds of platforms make with publishers and developers are quite heavily guarded, but Jacobson could speak broadly to how that worked – how, for instance, does getting nine times more players in a game like Football Manager equate to 2.5 times the revenue, when the games don’t include any real in-game microtransactions for those extra players to spend on?

“Different platforms work in different ways,” he says. “Some of them work in a world of up-front fees and royalties. Some of them work in a way of royalties. Those royalties are different for different platforms, so some are based on eyeballs, some are based on playtimes… So what Epic does with their free weeks is very different to what Microsoft does with Game Pass, very different to what Apple Arcade does. Which is very different to what Amazon Prime Days do, which is very different to what Netflix does.”

An extra upside comes “if your sales don’t drop,” Jacobson adds, meaning a studio such as Sports Interactive gets the revenue from the royalties and revenue from sales of the games they would’ve always had. “We don’t see cannibalisation, which is an absolute key thing. But we work with a publisher that we’ve worked with for a long time, who happens to own us as well, who understands the nature of annual iterations.” The studio also has a five-year plan, Jacobson says, and publisher Sega its own 10-year plans, which factor in the timing for when certain deals might run out.

“We know when our deals are going to run out with these platforms,” Jacobson says. “If we can get a deal that makes sense for us, then we will do the deal that makes sense. If we don’t… we know how many customers have played for more than five hours, so we know what our target number is going to be to hit that year. So it actually helps us, being able to be in a – I can’t say fully ‘no-lose’ situation – but in most cases we’re in a no-lose situation.”

All that has left Jacobson almost unanimously positive about the services, at least in terms of how they’ve worked for Football Manager. “We’d love to stay with the partners, we work very, very well together, and it’s massively increased our audience – but I don’t control their businesses, and with any large business they can pivot, so we’ve protected ourselves from that, and that’s why it was so important to do that long-term plan first.”

As for that painfully protracted wave of layoffs, Jacobson put much of the industry’s difficulty down to games’ increasing competition for attention: “We are in the middle of a battle for eyeballs.”

“We are not just battling time for other games,” he adds. “We’re also battling for the time of people watching TV, people watching YouTube, music, videos – games are battling with streamers over eyeballs, because there’s only one set of eyeballs. It all ties into the same thing… you have games like ours that have huge playtime. You have games like Candy Crush or Clash Royale, but also games like Destiny that have huge, huge playtimes, and we’ve seen a lot more of those coming through.”

All of those games, he goes on, “are battling against everything else. Plus there are more games coming out now than there’ve ever been before. Literally thousands of games coming out each month. Not everything can survive. So the subscription platforms are part of it, but the whole market is part of it as well.”

Likewise, he adds, “you have to be realistic about the situation, which is: if there aren’t enough hours in the day for the games to be played, then there are games that aren’t going to be able to be made. That’s the reality, in my opinion, of what people have been going through the last few years… I think people probably realised there’s just too many games coming out, they can’t all be successful. And the budgets have gone up so much – budgets have gone up exponentially – so you have to sell a lot more than you had to sell five years ago to have a hit game. So it’s a perfect storm.”

That ultimately comes back to Jacobson and the team’s five- and ten-year plans – something which might insulate Football Manager as a series more than other games from the “infinite money” concerns raised above. “We’ve got my COO, we’ve got the comms team, we’ve got the finance team, we’ve got the BI team, and we’ve got the whole of Sega that we worked with to agree on that long-term plan,” Jacobson says. “And then I ruined it all by not releasing FM25.”

Football Manager 26 adds the women’s game for the first time, with official Barclays Women’s Super League inclusion

Football Manager 26 will include the Barclays Women’s Super League and Super League 2, as women are added to the game for the first time.

The news is in addition to the Premier League being officially licensed in this iteration of the series. While this was previously announced for FM25, it was never implemented due to the game’s cancellation.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the Barclays Women’s Super League and Women’s Super League 2 to the Football Manager family for FM26,” said Miles Jacobson, studio director of Sports Interactive.

“Managers and figures within the league have been integral to the introduction of Women’s Football to our games, so it was only right that the leagues themselves were authentically represented too.

“I can’t wait to read and hear the stories from our players as they get to test their managerial skills in the WSL and WSL2 for the first time.”

Zarah Al-Kudcy, chief revenue officer of WSL Football added: “Bringing women’s football to the game for the first time is a major moment for visibility. This partnership is full of potential and, as an avid Football Manager fan myself, I can’t wait to get my tactics board out and compete for virtual silverware.”

A total of 24 teams will be included, across both leagues, which will be fully licensed with official player photos, club logos and kits.

Last month, Jacobson detailed to Eurogamer what went wrong with last year’s cancelled edition of Football Manager, discussing the challenges of changing to a new engine.

“Did we make the right decision? Yes,” he said. “Did we do everything correctly after making that right decision? No. Are there changes that I would have made to the decisions, if I had my time again? Yes. But I don’t lose sleep over those because you can’t manage them – and everything in life learns from the mistakes that they make.”

Football Manager 26 was officially revealed last month, and will release on 4th November across PC, PlayStation and Xbox (including Game Pass), as well as a separate mobile version for Netflix. A Switch version will follow on 4th December.

Sega and Sports Interactive, developer of the Football Manager series, have announced that the next and highly anticipated version of the game, Football Manager 26, will release on 4th November.

The initial roll-out of the game will be on PC/Mac (full-fat version), alongside Football Manager 26 Console for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. On 4th December Football Manager 26 Touch will release digitally for Nintendo Switch. All these versions of the game are built on the Unity Engine for the first time and offer save game compatibility with Football Manager 2024 and Football Manager 2023.

A mobile version of FM26 will be released exclusively for Netflix subscribers on the same date. This version will have compatibility with saves from FM24 Mobile careers only, and hasn’t made the switch to the Unity Engine.

“Setting Sports Interactive up for the next 20 years and beyond was an enormous undertaking but I couldn’t be prouder of the efforts of the whole team over the past two years” said Sports Interactive Studio Director Miles Jacobson.

Football Manager 26 and Football Manager Console (Xbox) will also launch day one in Game Pass.

European digital asset fund manager CoinShares on Monday announced plans to go public on the Nasdaq in the United States.

St Helier, Jersey-based CoinShares, which manages around $10 billion in assets, said it had entered into an agreement with blank-check company Vine Hill Capital Investment Corp. in a transaction valuing CoinShares at $1.2 billion pre-money on a pro-forma basis. 

CoinShares stock—which currently trades on the Nasdaq Stockholm—was trading about 1% higher on Monday after surging to a 52-week high earlier in the day. CoinShares will no longer trade on the Swedish exchange once it goes public in the U.S.



“This transaction represents far more than a change of listing venue from Sweden to the United States,” CoinShares CEO and co-founder Jean-Marie Mognetti said in a statement. “It signals a strategic transition for CoinShares, accelerating our ambition for global leadership, supported by favorable regulatory tailwinds.”

CoinShares, which mostly manages crypto exchange-traded funds, last year bought Valkyrie Funds, giving it control over a number of top Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs by the asset manager.

The move to the U.S. market comes amid a wave of firms in the crypto space going public following a more favorable environment under President Trump’s administration.

The Peter Thiel-backed crypto exchange Bullish debuted on the New York Stock Exchange last month, while San Francisco-based Circle, which issues the USDC stablecoin, had a roaring June NYSE debut. Other firms such as Gemini and Figure Technologies are preparing to go public in the near future.

President Donald Trump campaigned on a ticket to help the industry, and the U.S. commander in chief has a number of personal digital asset ventures—including his own official Solana-based meme coin, and the World Liberty Financial crypto platform.

A Bitcoin miner partially owned by two of his sons, American Bitcoin, debuted on the Nasdaq last week, soaring over 80% in its Nasdaq debut before quickly losing its gains. ABTC was trading for nearly $5 per share—up close to 5%—on Monday after hitting a high of $13.93 last week.

At last, our first look at Football Manager 26’s flashy new match engine is here, and it’s a bit like classic FIFA

Two years on from FM25’s initial announce, we finally have our first proper look at actual gameplay from Football Manager 26, the game that supplanted it after FM25’s troubled and ultimately cancelled development.


It’s only a brief tease for now: a one minute, 12 second trailer focusing on footage from the new match engine, developed in Unity for the first time. Here’s that trailer for you to have a look:

An immediate stand-out is the level of visual detail. Stadiums and crowds are significantly improved, looking a bit like a FIFA game from the mid-00s. That might sound like an insult, or back-handed compliment at best, but the differences in what these two types of game are doing under the hood are stark – and Football Manager has to run on significantly less powerful hardware at the same time.

A candid look at why last year’s Football Manager was canned

Some things are as predictable as rain in the UK, and one of those is the annualised release of a new Football Manager game. But last year there wasn’t one. Last year (well, technically this year after a delay) Sports Interactive and Sega made the unprecedented deicsion to cancel Football Manager 25.


Why? That’s what Chris travelled to Sports Interactive to find out, and he published his findings – his candid interview with studio boss Miles Jacobson – this morning. It’s a fantastic read, a look behind the curtain. An open an honest account of a big-swing game evolution that wasn’t ready to release.


But it’s not an easy thing to cancel an annualised game. One does not simply withhold it. There’s your publisher’s annual earnings to think about, there are Premier League and football league licenses to think about. There are your players to think about. There’s a lot.

“I don’t believe we’re going to be disappointing people when we bring the game out. I don’t believe that we are going to lose the reputation that we’ve worked really hard to build up in the 30, 31 years I’ve been here. We’ve got a fucking great game! We didn’t have a great game in December, and genuinely that’s what it completely comes down to. We didn’t have a great game.”
