Capcom Confirms Pragmata Isn’t Secretly A Mega Man Game

by admin August 30, 2025

For many months now, some fans online have suggested that Capcom’s upcoming sci-fi adventure Pragmata is actually a secret Mega Man reboot. However, Pragmata’s producer says it is not, even laughing about the conspiracy theory when recently asked about it.

Fans and content creators online have spread this theory around for a while. Many point out that Pragmata’s cybergirl sidekick, Diana, shares a lot of design elements with Mega Man, with her coat lending her the robot’s signature color and her arm expanding during some moments in a way reminiscent of the Blue Bomber’s oversized blaster arm. There’s also the game’s narrative setup, which involves evil robots. But, in a recent interview with VGC, Pragmata’s producer Naoto Oyama completely denied this theory.

“Pragmata is not a Mega Man game,” said Oyama. VGC also reports he was laughing as he answered the question. He then added, “It is a completely new game from Capcom.

“I was actually one of the producers on the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection as well, so I’m happy to see that people who love Mega Man are passionate about Pragmata too,” Oyama told the outlet. “From my standpoint, it’s nice to see people are being so positive about it.”

So that seems like a definitive no. However, I expect some fans will claim that Capcom is lying. That, of course, they won’t confirm Pragmata’s connection to Mega Man. It’s supposed to be a big secret, so Capcom will deny it until Pragmata launches sometime in 2026. (Remember when this game was revealed in 2020 and was supposed to be out in 2022?)

However, I’d argue that Capcom knows how much people want new Mega Man games, and if they were making one, they’d be shouting about it from the rooftops. Also, keep in mind that Capcom isn’t above referencing and hinting at other games in their new IPs. We saw this happen with Exoprimal, which many fans were convinced was a Dino Crisis game. And to fans’ credit, Capcom did include a woman with red hair in a debut trailer for the game about dinosaurs. So I’m not surprised there’s some Mega Man inspiration in Pragmata. Capcom really needs people to remember this game exists and care about it in 2026. And what better way to do that than by sprinkling a few references to something much more popular and hoping the fans take the bait.

Anyway, even if Pragmata isn’t a Mega Man game (and I really don’t think it is), the game sounds like it might be an interesting throwback to the kind of linear action games we got back in the 2010s on Xbox 360 and PS3. Here’s what our own Kenneth Shepard thought about it when he played it earlier this year:

Pragmata feels a bit like a game out of time, as its gruff old man protagonist, slow-moving enemies, and brutalist sci-fi aesthetic are all evocative of the over-the-shoulder shooters from the PS360 era. Given those seemingly bygone qualities, it’d be easy for Pragmata to feel rote and dated, but what I played was just inventive enough to feel novel. I was super impressed with it.

Romeo Is A Dead Man Has So Many Art Styles Because Suda51 Wanted Artists To “Do Their Best”

by admin August 25, 2025

During Gamescom 2025 last week in Cologne, Germany, I went hands-on with No More Heroes developer Grasshopper Manufacture’s upcoming action game, Romeo Is A Dead Man, and came away with more questions than answers (but in the best way possible). Fortunately, I immediately transitioned from my hands-on preview to a couch, where I sat across from the game’s director, Goichi Suda AKA Suda51, and his interpreter, and asked him the new questions I had.

But first, let me set the scene of my demo: before gameplay began, I watched a quick intro you’ve likely seen in the game’s reveal trailer that shows Romeo die, then be resurrected and turned into a space cop/FBI agent/expert mercenary/cyborg hybrid. From here, I was brought to a screen with three impeccably designed chocolates. I forgot the name of the first chocolate (and unfortunately didn’t write it down), but it represented the game’s easy mode; the orange chocolate I chose represented normal, and the ginger-infused chocolate was the game’s hard mode. I was then thrust right into the action.

I’m not quite sure where I was, but it was reminiscent of a junk yard; gray, foggy, and swarmed with zombies and other monstrous creatures Romeo needed to kill. Doing so was a blast, thanks to a combat system that feels fast, fluid, and visceral, with a large selection of weaponry to use. I used a machine gun, a pistol, a grasshopper-shaped rocket launcher, and a fusion rifle, of sorts, as well as a katana-like sword, a colossal two-handed sword, and more. All of them are easily accessible with a combo of buttons tied to the d-pad. I like that each gun has a different feel, and that each melee weapon features its own moveset, all in the name of dismembering and beheading hordes of zombies and everything else that stands in the way of Romeo.

Romeo Is A Dead Man was, by far, the bloodiest demo I saw during Gamescom, and I previewed more than two dozen games, including Resident Evil Requiem. Despite the gallons and gallons of blood, though, it comes off comedically rather than horrifically, thanks to the game’s visual flair.

After I mowed down enough enemies in this junkyard-like area, I warped into cyberspace, another visually distinct part of the game with its own narrative ties. There was a boss at the end of this area, but I wasn’t able to reach it as my time to interview Suda51 had arrived. Before diving into what I learned from my interview, I’ll close out my preview thoughts here by saying I continue to grow increasingly intrigued by what the hell Romeo Is A Dead Man is doing each time I see and play it. It’s hard to explain what this game is, but that’s part of its charm, and I can’t wait to find out how all its seemingly disparate pieces connect when it launches next year.

Discussing Romeo Is A Dead Man And Grasshopper Manufacture With Suda51

Game Informer’s Wesley LeBlanc: There is a lot going on in Romeo Is A Dead Man, but from a broad approach, what are the inspirations behind the game?

Suda51: You may have noticed playing a bit of the game, but a few of the main influences and inspirations for the game are Back to the Future and Rick and Morty, which itself was inspired by Back to the Future. We wanted to do something with space time and time travel, and the whole thing started off with looking to those two properties.

There are so many distinct art styles in Romeo Is A Dead Man. What are some of the inspirations behind that?

As far as the art and visual style go, that aspect of the game didn’t have much to do with the [Back to the Future and Rick and Morty] influences. Where that came from was basically, I wanted to make sure all the staff members working on the game were able to do their best and what they’re best at.

For the art, if we have one staff member good at Western-style comic book art, I’d say, “I want you to draw this scene, it’d look really great with your style.” Somebody else is really good at a different style, and I would think of a scene for that person in particular to work on. It was about finding a proper rhythm for each scene, matching the content of the scene and what the characters are doing, and how it could be portrayed best.

I try to match up all the members of the staff to a scene, let them do the best at what they do, and jamming it all together.

That’s a very different director approach from what I hear about studios in the West. What’s your philosophy behind that directorial style and letting people do things in their own vision?

It’s pretty simple, really. As far as my philosophy goes, I want it to be fun. We want to make fun games that people like playing, and we want everything about game development to be fun, too. In game development, there’s a lot of heavy s*** to deal with, hard times to deal with, so I wanted not just playing the game to be fun, but the development and creation of it to be as fun as possible, too.

I lay out my ideas in meetings, and we might have some planning, but I let people from any department talk, tweak versions of ideas, and create a collaborative process. Anyone can cross out ideas, combine something to make new ideas, or take separate ideas and turn them into different things. We try to make it as fun as possible, and I want everyone to have as much fun as they can creating the game. We want them to know their opinions are heard and respected.

Romeo Is A Dead Man director Suda51 and editor Wesley LeBlanc at Gamescom 2025

How do you factor in game balance with that approach?

A lot of game developers don’t like thinking like this, because it might “ruin the balance of the game” if there are too many ideas. I don’t care about that personally; I want the game to be fun and interesting. As far as balance goes, I’ll take care of that in the end. If you have a good idea, let everybody know, and in the end, I’ll make sure everything is as balanced as possible.

I think the team we’ve put together, they trust me to take care of that balance, which is why they feel free to put out different ideas they have. They can trust in me. Balance is probably one of the things I’m best at as a game developer – taking all these ideas that might not seem related, and balancing them.

Can you talk to me about the process behind the game’s combat design?

As far as the combat goes, that was actually mainly up to one of our lead programmers, Toru Hironaka, who has been at Grasshopper for years. I kind of left the combat and general action up to him because I know he knows what he’s doing.

From the beginning, I knew there were going to be gun-type weapons and sword-type weapons, and I wanted to make both appealing. I knew we had to make them fun to use and as interesting as any other weapon, so I talked with Hironaka and said, ‘These are the systems and action I want, do what you do best.” I had other staff members give input, too.

As far as the action stuff goes, it’s mainly Hironaka leading, but as a whole, [Romeo Is A Dead Man] came together the way it did through the power of teamwork. It’s never just one guy doing everything by himself.

The time between your last release and Romeo Is A Dead Man [due out in 2026] is the longest in development history at Grasshopper Manufacture. Why?

The main reason it took so long is timing, basically. For example, right around when we started on Romeo Is A Dead Man, it was right about the time we left GungHo Entertainment and joined NetEase, and we increased staff members, and it took them time to get used to how we do things and vice versa. Also, up through No More Heroes III, we worked on Unreal Engine 4, but Romeo Is A Dead Man is being developed in Unreal Engine 5, so our first year developing [Romeo Is A Dead Man], it was people learning Unreal Engine 5, learning how to work with each other, learning how the company works, and everyone getting used to each other and everything.

That’s the biggest reason it took so long. It’s not necessarily that the game is huge, and it wasn’t the worst possible timing; everything just happened at the point in time that would result in us taking the most time to get the game done.

Romeo Is A Dead Man launches sometime next year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Exclusive: Funko Launching Classic Mega Man Funko Fusion Figure With Chase Variant Version

by admin August 24, 2025

Funko Fusion didn’t set the world on fire when it released last year, but at least it’s giving us some cool Funko collectibles. We’ve already seen figures based on Battlestar Galactica, Shaun of the Dead, and The Thing, and soon we can add Mega Man to that list. The Mega Man Funko Fusion figure is now available to preorder for $15 ahead of its December 27 release date. The figure will come in a standard version that captures the hero’s original blue design, and a rare Chase variant that gives the character a zombified makeover. Alongside the Blue Bomber, Funko also announced Funko Fusion figures based on Colonel Sanders, Invincible, and Five Nights at Freddy’s.

$15 | Releases December 27

This new Mega Man Funko Fusion vinyl figure features Capcom’s retro icon in his classic blue armor and helmet, with a blue energy blast firing from his arm cannon. Like all Funko Pops, this one does not have any articulated joints, but it should make for a fun addition to your game room or home office. If you’re lucky, you might land the Chase variant of the Mega Man Funko Fusion, which “zombifies” the character, turning his eyes white, his skin pale, and adding flecks of green goo across his armor. Like all Chase variants, there’s about a 1/6 chance to find it.

Mega Man Funko Fusion Standard and Chase Variants

The vinyl is arriving alongside the Funko Fusion: Deluxe Edition video game, which adds several new, exclusive characters to the game. Our Funko Fusion review gave it a 4/10, though folks looking for a quirky cooperative game with constant references to pop culture icons will probably find something to enjoy about the adventure. The main reason to pick up this new $40 Deluxe Edition is for all the new playable characters from several popular movies and TV shows. Here’s a look at the new characters in the Deluxe Edition:

  • Wicked: The Wizard, Madame Morrible, Elphaba, Glinda, Prince Fiyero, and Shiz variants of Elphaba and Glinda
  • Universal Monsters: Dracula, Bride of Frankenstein, Invisible Man, Wolf Man
  • The Office: Michael, Dwight, Jim, Pam

The Funko Fusion standard edition is also available for $20 on PS5, PS4, Switch, and Xbox Series X. While the base version lacks the additional content and characters from the new Deluxe Edition, it does include Mega Man in its playable roster.

Funko Fusion Colonel Sanders, Freddy Fazbear, and Invincible features

As mentioned above, Mega Man is just one of several new Funko Fusion figures launching in December. You can preorder new vinyl collectibles based on KFC mascot Colonel Sanders–wielding a chicken-launching cannon, no less–that also comes in an all-gold Chase variant. He drops on December 9, alongside a new Invincible figure that has a blood-spattered chase variant. Following those two, a new Funko Fusion Freddy Fazbear wielding a pizza launcher drops on December 27 with a zombified Chase variant. Preorders for all these new figures are available for $15 apiece at Amazon.

There are several other figures available in the lineup that are available now, including classic heroes like He-Man, or villains like the Cylon robots from Battlestar Galactica. Fans of the Cornetto Film Trilogy can add Shaun from Shaun of the Dead or Nicholas Angel from Hot Fuzz to their shelves, while fans of creatures and monster movies can pick up the mutant Indominus Rex dinosaur or the grotesque monster from The Thing. Check out a list of even more Funko Fusion figures below, or browse the full lineup at Amazon.

Chicago man sues Home Depot, alleging it’s secretly using AI facial recognition at self-checkout

by admin August 24, 2025

If you’re shopping at Home Depot, you might want to watch out for facial recognition at the check-out counter. Benjamin Jankowski, a resident of Chicago, Illinois, is taking Home Depot to court after spotting the hardware store’s self-checkout kiosks using facial recognition without customers’ consent.

The class action lawsuit, filed on August 1, claims that Home Depot is violating Illinois’ 2008 Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), and asks the court for up to $5,000 in damages from Home Depot for every violation. Considering there are 76 Home Depot locations across Illinois, those fines could total well into the millions if Jankowski wins the case.

On June 22, Jankowski visited his local Home Depot in Chicago and had to use a self-checkout kiosk since no cashiers were available. While checking out, Jankowski noticed a camera and display above the kiosk, where his face was surrounded by a green box, a common sign of facial recognition. Jankowski took a photo of the display, noting that there were no signs or notices around the store to warn customers that Home Depot was collecting biometric data.

Related articles

That goes against the requirements of the Biometric Information Privacy Act, which is designed to protect Illinois residents’ biometric data from collection and misuse by businesses. BIPA requires businesses to get written consent to collect or disclose biometric identifiers, destroy that biometric data at a certain point, and store it securely in the meantime.

A 2019 case, Rosenbach v. Six Flags, set the precedent for Illinoisans to sue companies just for unlawfully collecting their biometric data based on BIPA. In that case, a mother sued Six Flags for taking her son’s fingerprints without BIPA-compliant notice and consent. Even though Six Flags didn’t cause “actual injury” by misusing that biometric data in some way, the court still found that it committed a “technical violation” of BIPA worthy of awarding damages to Rosenbach.

That was a similar situation to what Jankowski is claiming happened during his visit to Home Depot. Both cases highlight the importance of getting people’s permission before even collecting their biometric data, regardless of how it’s used. Home Depot’s VP of Asset Protection, Scott Glenn, emphasized in a 2024 interview that the company’s use of computer vision is for security purposes, specifically stopping theft.

Even so, many people may be uncomfortable with their biometric data getting collected without their knowledge or permission. After all, if that data is somehow compromised, people have no way to change biometrics like you would change a stolen password. Of course, almost any store you go into these days could be collecting your biometric data, but as Jankowski’s case highlights, shoppers have a right (at least in Illinois) to get a fair warning about that data collection.

Genshin Impact’s IRL event at gamescom teases Nod-Krai, Version 6.0, and yet another handsome anime man you’d better start saving your Primogems for

by admin August 21, 2025

Genshin Impact’s big annual update is not far off. Thanks to this year’s gamescom, we’ve got our first look at one of the new characters joining the game’s roster with the upcoming expansion: Flins, the latest in Genshin’s long line of eligible-and-they-know-it husbandos — and if you’re a longtime player, you’ve probably been expecting him.

The other highlight of the next version, of course, is the new Nod-Krai region, which is something those in attendance at the show will get to experience first-hand.

Genshin Impact is hosting an offline experience at its booth at gamescom to show off the new Nod-Krai region. We sadly can’t experience that from the comfort of our homes, but this fresh look at Flins is nothing to scoff at.

Flins is a warrior from the Lightkeepers, a faction that hails from Nod-Krai, and he’s part of a new story chapter that will kick off with the game’s annual major version update. Today’s trailer teases a bit of that narrative, too. Version 6.0 is set to arrive in September, which is when we’ll be able to get our hands on all that.

There’s clearly a lot more that’s being kept under wraps, but we won’t have to wait too long to learn all remaining details. The next Genshin Impact livestream will be taking place on the last Friday of the month, and that’s when all will be revealed.

In case you missed it, Genshin Impact’s developer recently announced plans to drop support for PS4, and raise system requirements on PC and mobile. Not all of these changes will take place at once, but you should probably prepare for that day if your device is affected.

Below, we’ll outline the best live TV streaming services for watching Premier League games as they happen, wherever you are in the world, and how to use a VPN if it’s not available where you are.

A hugely disappointing 15th-place finish for Man United last term — its lowest in the EPL era — has prompted a major overhaul of Ruben Amorim’s squad. $270 million has been splashed out on an all-new attacking lineup of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Šeško.

Arsenal have also been busy in the transfer market during the summer, with new No. 9 Victor Gyökeres set to make his Premier League debut for the Gunners today alongside fellow newcomers Martin Zubimendi and Noni Madueke.

Manchester United takes on Arsenal on Sunday, Aug. 17, at Old Trafford, with kickoff set for 4:30 p.m. BST. That makes it an 11:30 a.m. ET or 8:30 a.m. PT start in the US and Canada, and an 1:30 a.m. AEST kickoff in Australia in the early hours of Monday morning.

Midfielder Martin Zubimendi looks set to make his first EPL appearance for Arsenal following his $60 million summer move from Real Sociedad.

How to watch the English Premier League 2025-26 season from anywhere with a VPN

If you’re traveling abroad and want to keep up with all the EPL action while away from home, a VPN can help enhance your privacy and security when streaming.

It encrypts your traffic and prevents your internet service provider from throttling your speeds, and can also be helpful when connecting to public Wi-Fi networks while traveling, adding an extra layer of protection for your devices and logins. VPNs are legal in many countries, including the US and Canada, and can be used for legitimate purposes such as improving online privacy and security.

However, some streaming services may have policies restricting VPN use to access region-specific content. If you’re considering a VPN for streaming, check the platform’s terms of service to ensure compliance.

If you choose to use a VPN, follow the provider’s installation instructions, ensuring you’re connected securely and in compliance with applicable laws and service agreements. Some streaming platforms may block access when a VPN is detected, so verifying if your streaming subscription allows VPN usage is crucial.

  • With four variables at play — your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN — your experience and success when streaming EPL matches may vary.
  • If you don’t see your desired location as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the “search for city or country” option.
  • If you’re having trouble getting the game after you’ve turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log in to your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs — like Roku — don’t have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you’ll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you’re using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network’s sports app, you’ll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, since both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
  • And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you’re using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend Brave.
