Metroid Prime 4 advert reportedly spotted in London, sparking hopes of imminent release

by admin June 20, 2025

An advert for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has reportedly been photographed on the London Underground, stating the game is “out now”.

Officially, the game is only due for release at some point this year, so the discovery of this advert has sparked hope a release is imminent.

The images, reportedly taken at Oxford Circus, have not been verified. Eurogamer has contacted Nintendo for confirmation of Metroid Prime 4’s release date.

Still, the reddit post does include multiple images from different angles, so it certainly appears real. So what’s going on?

At the very least, Metroid Prime 4 is certainly not “out now”. It’s not available to purchase on the eShop, and it seems unlikely Nintendo would shadow drop it.

Instead, this is likely a mistake: either the advertising company has mistakenly put the advert up too early, or a “coming soon” sign of some sort is meant to cover the “out now” part for removal later. Either way, we’re awaiting official clarification from Nintendo.

As the advert is specifically for the Switch 2 Edition, it includes: support for mouse controls, up to 4K resolution in docked TV mode, frame rates up to 120fps, and HDR support.

The game is also set for release on the original Switch, presumably at the same time.

After years of waiting, the hugely anticipated sci-fi adventure received a first gameplay trailer in June last year. A deeper look at the game was provided during the March Nintendo Direct, where Samus’ psychic powers were revealed.

I was able to play Metroid Prime 4 at the Nintendo Switch 2 preview event in London and tested out its variety of control options. Mouse controls certainly work well enough, but I’m not convinced it’ll be the most comfortable way to play on your sofa.

Dow Jones gains 105 points as U.S.-China trade talks continue in London

by admin June 10, 2025

U.S. stocks held steady Tuesday as a second day of trade talks between the U.S. and China got underway in London.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.25%, or 105.11 points whille the S&P 500 gained 0.55%. The Nasdaq index outperformed with a 0.63% gain and is now approximately 285 points away from reclaiming the 20,000 leve.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick described U.S. – China trade negotiations as going “really, really well,” suggesting a resolution may be close. Export controls remain central to discussions. U.S. officials are seeking Beijing’s release of rare earth materials, while China is pressing for eased access to American semiconductors.

Still, the mood was cautious on Wall Street, where investors are watching closely for signs of a breakthrough. Chinese markets, meanwhile, showed renewed volatility, with a sudden dip in equities early Tuesday reflecting investor nerves.

Markets have been sensitive to signals from the talks. Despite optimism from officials, President Trump warned Monday that “China’s not easy,” tempering expectations.

U.S. small-business sentiment

On the economic front, a survey from the National Federation of Independent Business showed a modest rebound in U.S. small-business sentiment in May, the first uptick since September.

The improvement was linked to easing tariff concerns and anticipation around Trump’s tax-and-spending bill, though some firms remained wary about the broader outlook.

The World Bank, however, lowered its U.S. growth forecast to 1.4% for 2025, citing ongoing trade uncertainty.

Elsewhere, Blackstone announced plans to invest up to $500 billion in Europe over the next decade, citing expectations of accelerating growth in the region.

Investors are also bracing for Wednesday’s release of the May Consumer Price Index report, which could reshape expectations for inflation and future Fed policy. Analysts anticipate an uptick in price pressures.

While LA Burns Waymos, London Teases Driverless Car Pilot

by admin June 10, 2025

In brief

  • UK government plans to trial self-driving taxis in London starting with limited autonomous vehicles on specific roads, aiming for full commercial launch by late 2027.
  • Major companies Uber and Wayve have partnered to test the service, with customers able to book rides through the Uber app once trials begin.
  • Officials emphasize rigorous safety testing will be prioritized, acknowledging London’s complex medieval street layout poses greater challenges than previous test cities.

The UK government has announced plans to begin trialling self-driving taxi services on its roads, just as there’s been blow-back in LA where several self-driving Waymo cars were torched.

Several vehicles were set on fire Sunday during a protest against the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids in Los Angeles and the Trump administration’s deployment of National Guard into the region.

The initial plan in London, as put forward by the Department for Transport, involves a limited number of autonomous vehicles on specific roads—including in the capital city.

The government aims to allow companies to fully launch autonomous taxi services in the second half of 2027.

Officials have been clear that they will prioritize safety over all else.

“We won’t allow this technology to be deployed on our roads unless we are confident that really rigorous safety tests have been met,” said Transport Department spokesperson Marco Barbato.

Major taxi firms have announced interest right away. U.S. firm Uber and UK based Wayve have both said they would be interested in becoming partners so they can jointly take advantage of the plan to launch self-driving vehicles on London roads.

Wayve CEO Alex Kendall has acknowledged that testing in a busy city like London will be a challenging environment.

“This is not Phoenix, Arizona,” he said, referring to the city where the company initially launched. “it’s not a grid-like city in the desert where the sun always shines. London is a medieval, structured environment. It has seven times more jaywalkers than San Francisco.”

Early tests, he said, will enable the company to show it is “scalable and trusted”.

The partnership will allow customers to use the Uber app to call Wayve cars. This is already how the setup is working with Uber and Google’s Waymo in Austin, Texas and with Uber and Hyundai-linked Motional in Las Vegas.

“Our vision is to make autonomy a safe and reliable option for riders everywhere, and this trial in London brings that future closer to reality,” said Uber President and COO Andrew Macdonald.

This won’t be the first time tech startups have hit London streets. The city has already seen Israeli company Mobileye test its collision tech on buses. And UK-based autonomous vehicle manufacturer Oxa has trialled its tech in Oxford and London.

Crew member found “dancing in the toilet” on flight from US to London

by admin June 1, 2025

A British Airways flight steward was found naked and dancing in the bathroom mid-flight after he went missing during transit.

The flight, which completed its voyage uninterrupted, was ferrying passengers from San Francisco to London.

As reported by The Sun, the steward in question’s colleagues started searching for him aboard the flight after it became apparent that he was missing, eventually discovering him in a business class bathroom.

“He was stripping off and dancing in the toilet,” one member of the flight crew told the publication, adding, “It was a long time before he was located and he was completely out of it.”

“Not only is it really dangerous, it is a crazy way to end your BA career. This job can do ridiculous things to people, but staging a one-man disco in a Club World toilet is a new one on me,” they continued.

Upon being located, the employee was provided with spare clothes and seated in First Class for the remainder of the flight. Direct flights from San Francisco to London take approximately 10 hours, although it’s not clear how long into the service the incident occurred.

The flight steward was found in a Club World bathroom.

Suspended from duty

Received by authorities after they were notified by British Airways staff, the man received medical attention after disembarking and was suspended from his job pending investigation. When contacted for comment, BA told The Sun that the matter was now under police jurisdiction.

As of writing, it’s not known why the worker, whose name remains unknown, engaged in inappropriate workplace behaviour. One member of the flight crew who spoke to The Sun suggested that illicit substances may have been involved, but this remains unconfirmed.

Strange events aren’t unheard of at 30,000 feet. In 2024, Australian airline Qantas apologized to passengers after an R-rated movie was accidentally shown to all passengers aboard a flight from Sydney to Tokyo.

PowerWash Simulator’s final update will let you live out your fantasy of giving a London underground train a good scrub

by admin May 30, 2025

Anyone that’s ever been on the London underground, no matter their background, can all likely agree on one thing: that place is nasty. I mean, it’s all underground, where’s the dirt meant to go? And it’s not like anyone’s putting any money into getting the place cleaned. But, if you’ve ever fantasized about hosing down a Northern Line train for yourself, one, that’s possibly slightly odd, and two, you’ll be able to do almost just that in PowerWash Simulator’s next and last update.

Developer FuturLab shared an update earlier today saying that “the time has come to reach our final destination for PowerWash Simulator.” Four years on since the game launch into early access in 2021, the cleaning sim will be getting an update titled The Muckingham Files 6 where you’ll be able to clean up a legally safe version of a London underground train, as well as a nice looking park with a big gnome statue, amongst others.

Watch on YouTube

The update is already available too, and it’s completely free, so you’ll just need to update your game when you’re feeling the need to clean.

If you’re wondering, “wait, last update? Why?”, I would like to say that it’s okay when things end sometimes, but also, PowerWash Simulator 2 was announced a couple of months ago, so that’ll be why the first one is winding down. The sequel is set to arrive sometime in 2025, as long as all goes to plan, and it’ll even have splitscreen co-op. FuturLab are also self-publishing this one, so unfortunately you probably won’t be able to give Cloud’s sword a good polish this time around.

US Tourist Says Bitcoin, XRP Worth $123K Stolen After Ride With Fake Uber in London

by admin May 21, 2025

In brief

  • A U.S. tourist lost more than $123,000 in cryptocurrency after being drugged and abducted by a fake Uber driver in London’s West End.
  • The attacker reportedly gained access to the victim’s digital wallet after obtaining his phone passcode.
  • Police are investigating the incident amid a rise in physical attacks targeting crypto holders across Europe.

A U.S. tourist has lost more than $123,000 in crypto after being targeted in a suspected premeditated theft in London’s West End following a night out and a short stay in the city.

Jacob Irwin-Cline from Portland, Oregon, was on a two-day layover when he called an Uber after leaving The Roxy, a nightclub in Soho, around 1:30 AM on May 9.

Police reports indicate a driver who knew his name from the app intercepted him, according to an initial report from local media outlet MyLondon.

CCTV footage from the nightclub later requested by Irwin-Cline revealed that he entered a dark sedan rather than the Toyota Prius displayed on his Uber app.

“The guy seemed super chill, super nice,” Irwin-Cline recounted.

The driver then offered him a cigarette, believed to contain scopolamine, a sedative causing blackouts while keeping victims conscious and suggestible.

“I said I stopped smoking, but he said, ‘Oh, c’mon. I said, ‘Sure, if you want to bond over a cigarette, ‘” Irwin-Cline reportedly said.

While under the influence, Irwin-Cline unwittingly provided his phone’s passcode and access to his crypto accounts before he was abandoned in an unfamiliar area of London.

Authorities later confirmed the attackers accessed his wallet directly after a forced login of his Revolut account.

The London incident marks the latest instance across Europe involving a “wrench attack,” a term used to refer to physical threats forcing victims to surrender their crypto.

Irwin-Cline estimates his total crypto losses at $123,000, including $72,000 in XRP tokens, approximately $50,000 in Bitcoin, and several smaller coin positions were drained.

He also said he doesn’t believe he was targeted and that instead the attacker got “lucky” that he had a “bit of wealth stored away.”

An investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have yet been made. Decrypt reached out to relevant authorities for comment.
