Nintendo’s first-ever UK pop-up store is coming to London so you can buy merchandise typically only available in Japan

by admin September 25, 2025

Nintendo has revealed its first-ever UK pop-up store is on the way to London, filled with merchandise usually sold in its permanent stores in Japan.

The store will be available on the ground floor of Westfield London in Shepherd’s Bush from 22nd October until 16th November.

However, for the first week you’ll need a ticket reservation (which will go live on 7th October) for a specific timeslot, which requires a Nintendo Account. Then, from 27th October onwards, a standard queuing system will be implemented.

Children aged six and under won’t need a ticket, but they will need to be accompanied by an adult who does.

Nintendo promises the store will “showcase an extensive range of official Nintendo merchandise, from collectible keyrings, pins, and charms to cosy apparel, stylish bags, and home essentials, including other exclusive items sold at the permanent stores in Japan”.

London Stock Exchange Group Debuts Blockchain Platform For Private Funds

by admin September 15, 2025

Update Sept. 15, 7:58 am UTC: This article has been updated to include another section on LSEG and Microsoft’s collaboration.

The London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) launched a blockchain-based infrastructure platform for private funds, making it the first major global stock exchange to use such a system.

The platform, called Digital Markets Infrastructure (DMI), supports the full lifecycle of digital assets, from issuance and tokenization to post-trade settlement. It was developed with Microsoft and runs on Microsoft Azure, the exchange said on Monday.

LSEG said the system was designed to provide interoperability between distributed ledger technology and traditional financial systems as part of its goal to become the first global exchange group to support clients across the “full funding continuum.”

Private funds are the first asset class to go live on the DMI, with plans for additional asset classes.

As part of the initial offering, private funds on the DMI will be discoverable by Workspace’s users, enabling general partners to interact with professional investors on these platforms.

Capital management firm MembersCap and London-based Archax, a Financial Conduct Authority-regulated crypto exchange, were the first clients onboarded. MembersCap conducted the platform’s debut transaction with Archax acting as a nominee for the Cardano Foundation.

Microsoft, LSEG aim to unlock new opportunities for customers

Microsoft’s collaboration with LSEG on the new blockchain-based platform is a “powerful example of the innovation driving our strategic partnership,” according to Bill Borden, corporate vice president of worldwide financial services at Microsoft.

“Together, we’re reshaping the future of global finance to empower our customers to unlock new opportunities and drive meaningful change.”

Today’s private market processes are ripe for innovation. LSEG aims to improve investor access to capital markets and enhance liquidity, according to Darko Hajdukovic, head of digital markets infrastructure at LSEG.

“We intend to do this by continually working with all stakeholders to enhance efficiencies and connectivity for both digitally-native and traditional assets,” Hajdukovic said, adding that there is significant “appetite for an end-to-end, interoperable, regulated financial markets DLT infrastructure.”

Ultimately, the platform aims to provide more investor access to private market investment opportunities that were previously difficult to discover and participate in.

Blockchain-based incentives from traditional finance giants may accelerate the convergence of traditional and decentralized finance (DeFi), which may come sooner than most expect, according to Nelli Zaltsman, head of blockchain payments innovation at JPMorgan’s Kinexys.

“Our goal has always been to find the best way to work with the public blockchain, regulatory environment permitting,” said Zaltsman, speaking alongside Chainlink Labs co-founder Sergey Nazarov at the RWA Summit Cannes 2025.

In June, the banking giant piloted synchronized settlement technology with Chainlink, allowing JPMorgan’s blockchain-based deposits to orchestrate transactions across different blockchains.

Three gaming industry summits coming to EGX at MCM London Comic Con this October

by admin September 13, 2025

Three gaming industry summits will take place at EGX at MCM London Comic Con this year.

MCM London Comic Con organiser ReedPop announced this year’s summits in a press release on September 11, 2025, revealing that this year’s convention will see the return of the PopCultr Marketing Summit, as well as an Investment Summit and a Creator Summit.

The Investment Summit, in partnership with Game Republic, offers indie developers an opportunity to learn more about securing investment for their games.

It will feature a keynote session held by Peter Moore, the former head of EA Sports, and Chris Dring, editor-in-chief of The Games Business (and former GamesIndustry.biz head).

The summit will also include a GamesIndustry.biz panel on investment chaired by our features editor Lewis Packwood. The panel will be made up of Curran Games Agency’s Cassia Curran, Transcend Fund’s Lirui Dring, Yogcast Games’ Simon Byron, and Team 17’s Meg Clarke.

More roundtables and panels will be revealed for the Investment Summit soon.

The Creator Summit, on the other hand, aims to equip creators with knowledge to help boost their careers, build their personal brand, and partner with businesses.

This summit will feature a selection of panels hosted by industry leaders, covering topics such as events, the UK’s Online Safety Act (OSA), and working with brands.

Experience12’s PopCultr Marketing Summit is also returning this year for the third time. This one-day summit brings together marketing professionals, with this year’s summit helping attendees understand the future of IP growth, storytelling, and fan engagement within a complex and constantly changing environment. You can pre-register for this summit here.

All three summits are free to attend for those with an MCM London Comic Con industry or creator pass, and will take place on October 24, 2025, at Excel London.

Sources: Alyssa Thompson flies to London amid Chelsea links

Jeff Kassouf covers women’s soccer for ESPN, focusing on the USWNT and NWSL. In 2009, he founded The Equalizer, a women’s soccer news outlet, and he previously won a Sports Emmy at NBC Sports and Olympics.

Angel City FC forward Alyssa Thompson boarded a London-bound plane from Los Angeles on Wednesday as six-time reigning English champions Chelsea attempt to finalize a deal for the American, multiple sources confirmed to ESPN.

England’s transfer deadline closes at 11 p.m. local time Thursday. Multiple sources confirmed that Angel City and Chelsea have not yet agreed to a deal, but Thompson’s departure for London signals that a transfer agreement will be reached.

The 20-year-old Thompson missed Angel City’s league match on Monday and was listed as an excused absence. The team’s head coach Alexander Straus, who arrived on the job in June, said after Monday’s 2-1 victory over Bay FC that the prior days had been “difficult.”

Angel City has not commented on the transfer saga as it has played out over the past week.

Thompson has scored six goals and added two assists for Angel City this season in the NWSL. In January, Thompson signed a three-year extension with Angel City that runs through the 2028 NWSL season.

Her 19-year-old sister, Gisele, also signed an extension through 2028 at the same time. Thompson is a Los Angeles native who skipped college — after committing to Stanford — to turn professional. Angel City selected her first overall in the 2023 NWSL Draft.

Thompson became the first player to be drafted straight out of high school. She was the youngest player on the United States’ 2023 World Cup team later that year at 18 years old. Thompson debuted for the senior USWNT against England on Oct. 7, 2022, in front of 90,000 fans at Wembley Stadium in London.

Chelsea is already home to United States international forward Catarina Macario and USWNT vice-captain and defender Naomi Girma. The club paid a then world record $1.1 million transfer fee to San Diego Wave FC for Girma in January.

Chelsea have made a point to go after more USWNT talent in recent scouting efforts. A fee for Thompson, one of the NWSL’s emerging stars, is expected clear the $1 million threshold at minimum. The Orlando Pride set a new world record in August when the NWSL team paid $1.5 million to Tigres for Mexico forward Lizbeth Jacqueline Ovalle.

ESPN’s Emily Keogh and Charlotte Gibson contributed to this report.

London targets noisy commuters with headphone campaign

by admin August 27, 2025

After bringing 4G and 5G connectivity to the Underground, London’s public transport authority has started scolding noisy passengers who subject everyone to music and calls blasting out of their phones. A new poster campaign launched by Transport for London (TfL) this week encourages customers to wear headphones when watching or listening to content on their devices to reduce disruption for other commuters.

“Please don’t disturb others with loud music or calls when travelling on the network,” reads the “Headphones On” poster. The posters are already being displayed on the Elizabeth rail line, according to TfL, and will expand to bus, Docklands Light Railway, London Overground, London Underground, and London Tram services from October.

The campaign targets headphone dodgers as data coverage becomes more available across the underground rail network, making it easier for passengers to stream content and make calls on the go. People who do so without donning headphones are annoying other commuters, however, with TfL research showing that 70 percent of 1,000 surveyed customers reported loud music and phone calls disrupting their journeys.

“The vast majority of Londoners use headphones when travelling on public transport in the capital, but the small minority who play music or videos out loud can be a real nuisance to other passengers and directly disturb their journeys,” says London’s deputy transport mayor, Seb Dance. “TfL’s new campaign will remind and encourage Londoners to always be considerate of other passengers.”

The new posters expand upon the “#TravelKind campaign” that TfL launched in 2017, highlighting ways that road and public transit users can help to prevent delays and make journeys run more smoothly.

Bitpanda Considers Public Listing, Rules Out London as Destination: FT

by admin August 26, 2025

Cryptocurrency exchange Bitpanda is “looking much closer” into a public listing than previously, co-founder Eric Demuth said in an interview with the Financial Times.

Demuth ruled out London as a likely venue for a public market debut, despite the crypto exchange’s recent expansion of U.K. operations. The lack of liquidity in share trading is putting Vienna-based Bitpanda off seeking a listing on the London Stock Exchange (LSE), he said.

“Currently, everybody’s moving away from the LSE,” Demut said. “Liquidity-wise, the LSE is not doing too well.”

He added that a listing in New York was more likely, based on the support by the U.S. government’s support for digital assets.

This month saw the New York Stock Exchange debut of crypto firm Bullish (BLSH), which operates the crypto exchange of the same name and is CoinDesk’s parent company. Other prominent companies such as stablecoin issuer Circle Interent (CRCL) and trading platform eToro (ETOR) have also debuted on the U.S. public markets this year.

“The market is much more friendly right now … so we’re currently looking much closer into [listing] than we did before,” Demuth said.

Bitpanda is also considering a Frankfurt listing given that the Austrian company makes most of its money in mainland Europe.

Bitpanda did not immediately respond to CoinDesk’s request for further comment.
