Trump-Backed World Liberty Gets Coinbase Approval With USD1 Stablecoin Listing

by admin August 24, 2025

In brief

  • Coinbase is listing the World Liberty Financial stablecoin, USD1.
  • World Liberty Financial is backed by President Donald Trump and its sons.
  • While a dollar-pegged stablecoin like USD1 won’t see a price jump from the listing, it could boost World Liberty’s visibility.

The USD1 stablecoin from World Liberty Financial—a crypto project backed by President Donald Trump and his sons—is now available for trading on Coinbase, the exchange announced on Thursday.

America’s biggest crypto exchange announced the listing in a Thursday post on X. Eric Trump, the president’s son and World Liberty co-founder, then reposted it and said that more news related to the crypto project was coming “very soon.”

Decrypt reached out to WLF for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

Coinbase told Decrypt that it listed the coin because it “strives to bring to market the products and services our customers want.” American users can now access USDC, Tether’s USDT, USD1, PYUSD, USDS, PAX, and DAI stablecoins on Coinbase.

In March, Decrypt reported that World Liberty had launched its own stablecoin. A stablecoin is a digital token typically pegged to the value of the U.S. dollar, but sometimes other non-volatile assets like alternative fiat currencies or gold.

Before listing USD1, Coinbase provided support for the two major stablecoins, USDT and USDC, and other smaller tokens.

The announcement comes amid a wave of activity in the stablecoin market coinciding with the run-up to and passage of the GENIUS Act, which set guidelines for issuing and trading stablecoins in the U.S. In recent months, a number of major financial services companies and other entities have introduced stablecoin initiatives, or said they were exploring efforts in the space.

Stablecoins are a key part of the crypto economy, because traders would use them to swiftly enter and exit digital asset transactions. Instead of using dollars on traditional banking rails, digital tokens accelerate the crypto trading process.

USD1 is planned to be usable on World Liberty Financial, a decentralized finance or DeFi platform announced in 2024. The Ethereum-based platform, which is being built with the Aave protocol, will provide crypto borrowing and lending services. However, it has yet to launch to the public.

In addition to the USD1 stablecoin, World Liberty has also launched its own native token, WLFI. That token is not currently tradable, though token holders voted in July to make it possible to buy and sell the Ethereum-based token.

Democratic lawmakers have called out World Liberty and its connection to President Trump, especially following the use of USD1 for a $2 billion investment from Abu Dhabi-based sovereign wealth fund MGX into leading crypto exchange Binance.

Even Republicans have suggested that Trump’s various crypto dealings—including World Liberty and his own personal Solana meme coin—have made it more difficult to advance crypto legislation in Washington.

However, the House and Senate ultimately passed the GENIUS Act stablecoin bill, which Trump signed into law in July.

Editor’s note: This story was updated with an expanded list of supported stablecoins on Coinbase.

Figure Joins Crypto IPO Rush With Nasdaq Listing Bid Under FIGR

by admin August 19, 2025

Figure, the blockchain-powered lender founded by SoFi co-founder Mike Cagney, has filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission for an initial public offering as the latest entrant in a growing crypto IPO wave.

The company plans to list its Class A shares on the Nasdaq under the ticker FIGR, with Goldman Sachs, Jefferies, and BofA Securities serving as lead underwriters.

Figure’s path to public markets has been years in the making. In 2021, it launched a special purpose acquisition company, Figure Acquisition Corp. I, with a $250 million raise aimed at acquiring growth-stage businesses using Provenance as an efficiency layer, however in the end this SPAC did not bring Figure to market.

A friendlier regulatory stance under the Trump administration and buoyant crypto and stock markets have set the stage for a surge of digital asset firms tapping the equity markets, including crypto exchange Bullish which is the owner of CoinDesk.

The company last month merged with Figure Markets, a blockchain marketplace also launched by Cagney that issues YDLS, a yield-bearing stablecoin structured as a tokenized money market fund.

Financials disclosed in the S-1 show revenue up 22.4% in the first half of 2025 to $190.6 million, with net income of $29 million compared with a $13 million loss a year earlier.

According to the filing with the SEC, proceeds from the IPO will fund working capital and potential acquisitions, with no dividends planned.

Sonic’s S token jumps 16% amid Coinbase listing announcement

by admin June 24, 2025

Sonic’s native token, S, has jumped 16% in the past 24 hours to trade at $0.3208, buoyed by news that Coinbase will list the asset.

Coinbase Assets announced on June 23 that support for Sonic (S) will go live “on or after 9AM PT on June 24” across Coinbase and Coinbase Exchange. Trading for the S-USD pair will launch in phases once liquidity conditions are met, and transfers will only be supported on the Sonic network.

Coinbase will add support for Sonic (S) on the Sonic network. Do not send this asset over other networks or your funds may be lost. Transfers for this asset are available on @Coinbase & @CoinbaseExch in the regions where trading is supported.

— Coinbase Assets 🛡️ (@CoinbaseAssets) June 23, 2025

Market activity immediately increased as a result of the announcement. Sonic’s trading volume surged sharply, rising more than 76% to $266.6 million. According to Coinglass data, open interest has increased by 9.57% to $25.47 million.

The rise in open interest indicates greater speculative interest and possible upside conviction, even though the volume of derivatives stayed largely unchanged. Despite the recent gains, S remains nearly 30% lower over the past month and still sits 68% below its all-time high of $1.03 recorded in January 2025.

A Coinbase listing typically translates into greater accessibility and broader market appeal, especially for retail users who prefer fiat onramps. In addition, it boosts liquidity and generally strengthens the credibility of the project.

SonicStrategy chief executive officer Mitchell Demeter commented that the listing may open doors to institutional inclusion, with S potentially being considered for managed portfolios and custodial products. That credibility may be further strengthened by Sonic’s expanding ecosystem.

Sonic recently kicked off its Season 2 airdrop on June 18, distributing $82 million worth of S tokens to active community members, including Sonic Point holders, NFT minters, and Sonic Arcade users. The initiative aims to increase token distribution and user activity.

On June 19, the Sonic network also merged with the decentralized finance aggregator 1inch, enabling low-cost swaps and cross-chain transactions. More Sonic users can now join 1inch’s well-established DeFi platform thanks to the move.

From a technical perspective, the S token is showing tentative signs of recovery following weeks of steady decline. The price is currently testing the middle Bollinger Band around $0.338 after rising from recent lows around $0.25. If price breaches this level with high volume, it could indicate trend confirmation.

Momentum indicators are also beginning to change, with the MACD now positive. The 10-day moving averages have turned supportive, but the 20- to 50-day averages still serve as resistance to the general trend. Although the relative strength index has moved out of oversold territory and reached 41.8, it has not yet entered bullish territory.

If the Coinbase listing encourages more inflows and retail participation, S may attempt to break through resistance at $0.34 and potentially move toward $0.42, a level last seen in May. The token might, however, retrace toward $0.29 or lower if it is unable to hold onto its current level, especially if post-listing enthusiasm wanes or overall market weakness persists.

Tron jumps after $1b USDT mint as Nasdaq listing draws closer

by admin June 23, 2025

The Tron ecosystem is getting ready for a major change as Jason Sun’s firm prepares for a Nasdaq listing.

Tron (TRX) is recovering from monthly lows at $0.2592, with a sharp rise to a daily high of $0.2722. The rebound comes after Tether minted another $1 billion in USDT on Tron on Sunday, June 22, to replenish its inventory.

As a result, traders are closely watching for bullish signals, including the increasingly frequent Tether mints. The most recent one before this occurred on June 9, when Tether minted another $1 billion on the network.

The move coincided with growing activity on Tron. According to CryptoOnchain, the 50-day and 100-day moving averages of active addresses reached their highest levels to date. At the same time, the network recorded 30% more transactions compared to February.

While USDT mints have happened before, they suggest that Tether anticipates increased stablecoin demand on the Tron network. Combined with Tron’s recent public listing announcement, the developments paint a bullish narrative for the token.

What’s next for Tron’s price?

Tron quickly bounced back after testing the support at $0.26, which coincided with the high-timeframe support. However, the latest dip also broke the trend where Tron achieved higher highs and lower lows. Still, the overall structure remains strong, with a potential path to $0.31.

Justin Sun’s company, Tron, which plays a key role in the Tron Network, will soon list on Nasdaq through a reverse merger. Interestingly, the SRM’s public offering was facilitated by Dominari Securities, a company with Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump on the advisory board.

Sun, who once faced charges by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, now has close ties to Donald Trump’s family. For one, Sun invested at least $97 million in Donald Trump’s memecoin (TRUMP), in a bid to become the biggest holder.

The token rallied by over 40,300% against USD within hours and over 10,000% against BNB. On PancakeSwap v2, SAHARA went as high as $0.04754 from a low of just $0.00007079 in just an hour. In BNB terms, it reached 0.000046 WBNB with a 24-hour trading volume of over $60.23 million and a current market cap of $30.1 million.

SEC Thailand Opens Public Consultation on Crypto Listing Criteria

by admin June 20, 2025

In brief

  • Thailand’s SEC is seeking public input on new listing rules for digital assets, with a consultation open until July 21, 2025.
  • Proposed rules would allow exchanges to list self-issued tokens and require disclosures to prevent insider trading.
  • The move aligns with Thailand’s broader push to become a global crypto hub, following recent tax exemptions and regulatory reforms.

Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission has opened public consultation on revising criteria for digital asset listings on exchanges, seeking to align regulations with industry developments while “maintaining investor protections.”

The SEC announced on Friday that it is seeking feedback on principles to improve the selection process for digital assets on “Digital Asset Exchanges,” with the consultation period running until July 21, 2025.

“The SEC Board, at its June 2025 meeting, resolved to revise the criteria for selecting digital assets to be provided on the exchange to be in line with the context of the digital asset industry,” the SEC said in a statement.

The proposed changes would allow exchanges to list “ready-to-use digital tokens or cryptocurrencies” issued by the exchange itself or related parties for blockchain transactions.

The move aims to provide digital assets that are “consistent with the development of innovation and usage,” while promoting Thailand’s digital asset ecosystem, according to the regulator’s announcement.

Monitoring for warning signs

Under the proposed framework, exchanges must disclose the names of persons related to digital token issuers and display warning symbols in reporting systems to help the SEC monitor and prevent insider trading.

The regulator called for maintaining “regulatory mechanisms for preventing and managing conflicts of interest, preventing market manipulation of digital assets, and preventing unfair practices.”

For tokens already listed before the announcement takes effect, issuers have 90 days to provide related-party disclosures to exchanges.

The consultation marks another step in Thailand’s strategy to capture international crypto businesses and position itself as a regional financial center.

The country recently eliminated capital gains taxes on crypto sales for five years in a Cabinet decision, with the government projecting the initiative will generate economic benefits “by no less than 1,000 million baht” ($30.7 million) over the medium term.

Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat called the tax exemption part of the government’s ambition to establish Thailand as “one of the world’s financial hubs.”

Thailand is also preparing pilot programs for crypto tourism payments in Phuket and considering allowing spot Bitcoin ETFs for retail investors.

In January, SEC Secretary-General Pornanong Budsaratragoon said Thailand must “move along with more adoption of cryptocurrencies worldwide.”

Coinbase Unveils New Listing for Ethereum-Based Crypto Assets: Details

by admin June 18, 2025

Major crypto exchange Coinbase has expanded the roster of Ethereum-based crypto assets on its platform, announcing a new listing.

In a recent tweet, Coinbase announced the listing of Spark (SPK) — an Ethereum-based crypto asset — on its platform. The newly listed token is currently available on Coinbase as well as the Coinbase iOS and Android mobile apps, with the “Experimental” label.

In similar news, Coinbase stated it will add support for new assets, including Spark perpetual futures on Coinbase International Exchange and Coinbase Advanced. The opening of the SPK-PERP markets will begin on or after 9:30 a.m. UTC on June 19, 2025.

This month, Coinbase has added support for tokens based on the Ethereum network (ERC-20 tokens), including PancakeSwap (CAKE), Lagrange (LA) and Ethena (ENA).

You Might Also Like

Ethena (ENA) is available on Coinbase, in the Coinbase iOS and Android apps, allowing users to buy, sell, convert, send, receive or store the crypto asset.

In other announcements, Coinbase will add support for Resolv perpetual futures on Coinbase International Exchange and Coinbase Advanced. The opening of our RESOLV-PERP market will begin on or after 9:30 a.m. UTC on June 19.

Coinbase reveals plan for blockchain-based stocks

According to Reuters, Coinbase is seeking approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to offer “tokenized equities” to its users. Tokenizing equities is the process of converting a company’s shares into a digital token, similar to how cryptocurrencies are traded. Rather than holding the securities directly, investors hold tokens that reflect ownership of them.

You Might Also Like

The concept is a “huge priority,” said Paul Grewal, Coinbase’s chief legal officer, as tokenized equities are currently not available for trading in the United States.

If granted, the move will enable Coinbase to essentially offer stock trading via blockchain technology, putting it in direct rivalry with retail brokerages such as Robinhood and Charles Schwab, as well as opening up a new business segment for Coinbase.

VanEck’s Solana ETF Gets DTCC Listing, SEC Approval Next?

by admin June 18, 2025

VanEck’s proposed spot Solana ETF has officially appeared on the DTCC (Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation) website under the ticker “VSOL”, signaling a major step toward potential SEC approval.

The ETF is listed in DTCC’s “active and pre-launch” section, which means it can’t yet be created or redeemed until the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) gives the green light. However, its presence on the DTCC list is widely viewed as a bullish sign that approval may be near.

VanEck sees the listing as part of the launch process, even though it doesn’t guarantee approval. In the past, SEC has been very conservative when it comes to approving spot crypto ETFs.

Bitcoin and Ethereum have already jumped the fence, but Solana is still in line. This listing on DTCC, however, is a big milestone and indicates increasing momentum in Solana ETFs. On Polymarket, approval odds of a Solana ETF have increased to 91 percent, reflecting the confidence of analysts.

Bloomberg analysts James Seyffart and Eric Balchunas expect SEC to approve Solana ETFs in the coming month, particularly with the CME set to launch Solana futures. Another indication of progress is that the SEC has been collaborating with issuers in updating their S-1 filings.

As the demand of crypto ETFs increases, companies such as CoinShares, Bitwise, and Franklin Templeton are also entering the Solana ETF competition. Others are even incorporating staking capabilities, which are a sign of a wider investor base.

The listing on the DTCC could be the catalyst Solana ETFs require to become mainstream.

TRX Public Listing Might be Investors’ ‘Visa’ moment for Stablecoins

by admin June 17, 2025

Good Morning, Asia. Here’s what’s making news in the markets:

Welcome to Asia Morning Briefing, a daily summary of top stories during U.S. hours and an overview of market moves and analysis. For a detailed overview of U.S. markets, see CoinDesk’s Crypto Daybook Americas.

Analysis

As Asia begins its trading day, Tron DAO’s TRX token is trading flat, up 1%.

Crypto traders don’t seem to be making much of a recent announcement that Tron—for all intents and purposes—is ‘going public’ on the NASDAQ via a reverse merger with SRM Entertainment, a lightly traded Nasdaq-listed toy company that is now rebranding as “Tron Inc.” complete with a TRX treasury strategy.

While a blockchain going public might be a little different than what traditional investors are used to, in theory, this might be a stablecoin infrastructure play.

The proposed public vehicle would give equity traders access to a network that is home to 30% of all stablecoin transactions (according to DeFi Llama data) takes place and where half of all USDT in circulation live.

In contrast, while Circle is a regulated issuer of USDC, a fiat-backed stablecoin, Tron Inc. would likely provide investors with indirect exposure to a blockchain network that facilitates a significant portion of global stablecoin activity in both the crypto market and the fast-growing global south, where the population is skeptical of the existing banking system.

Unlike Circle, which does not control the infrastructure on which USDC circulates, Tron operates the network itself.

This is where the two business models differ: Tron captures transaction fees and on-chain activity directly, whereas Circle’s business model is centered on custody, compliance, and interest income on the reserves backing USDC.

On-chain data shows that the Tron network hosts massive whale activities, with a recent note from CryptoQuant pointing out that 59% of May’s USDT volume on Tron came from transactions over $1 million.

Tron is also the network of choice for countries where the local populace doesn’t trust the existing banking system, from Lebanon to Argentina and Brazil.

As CoinDesk reported earlier, users in these emerging and underbanked markets typically prefer to access dollars directly by using Tether on Tron rather than thinking in terms of stablecoins or blockchain protocols more broadly.

While the market reaction has been muted, investors with experience in fintech or infrastructure plays may recognize the pattern.

Visa’s IPO in 2008, following MasterCard’s debut in 2006, allowed public markets to gain exposure to the payment rails of the developed world. The health of the western consumer and their desire to spend pushed fees through the respective networks and dividends into investors’ pockets.

In China, UnionPay never went public, and so equity investors have pinned their hopes on Ant Group’s long-awaited IPO to access Alipay’s rails just as Tencent’s listing gave exposure to WeChat Pay.

While some once speculated that virtual yuan infrastructure might power commerce in the global south, that thesis has not materialized.

Instead, commerce in underbanked regions is increasingly conducted using stablecoins and largely over Tron’s infrastructure.

If that trend holds, Tron Inc. may become the most direct public-market proxy for the payment rails of emerging markets.

Hong Kong’s First Solana Public Equity Listing Facilitated by OSL

OSL has facilitated what appears to be the first Solana (SOL) treasury allocation by a Hong Kong-listed company, enabling MemeStrategy (2440.HK), a digital asset venture backed by 9GAG, to purchase 2,440 SOL through its platform.

The acquisition of 2,440 SOL, worth approximately $370,000, was completed using OSL’s institutional platform, which provided execution, settlement, and custody services.

$1.9B Inflows Cement Crypto as 2025’s Risk-On Favorite: CoinShares

Digital asset investment products pulled in $1.9 billion last week, marking the ninth straight week of inflows, according to a recent report from CoinShares. That brings 2025’s year-to-date total to a record $13.2 billion, suggesting institutional appetite for crypto remains strong despite geopolitical volatility.

While broader markets showed caution, capital rotated into both digital assets and gold, traditionally seen as uncorrelated safe havens, hinting at crypto’s evolving role as part of a macro hedge strategy.

Bitcoin led the charge with $1.3 billion in inflows, snapping a two-week stretch of minor outflows. Ethereum followed with $583 million, the highest weekly total since February, and including its strongest single-day inflow this year. Together, the top two crypto assets accounted for over 95% of weekly inflows. But activity wasn’t limited to the majors: XRP reversed three weeks of outflows with $11.8 million in new capital, and Sui continued its hot streak with $3.5 million in inflows, a sign that select altcoins are gaining traction among professional allocators.

Regionally, the United States was responsible for virtually all inflows, while Hong Kong and Brazil posted net outflows of $56.8 million and $8.5 million, respectively. These regional divergences underscore the uneven pace of crypto adoption globally, despite total flows reaching historic highs.

Market Movements:

  • BTC: Bitcoin surged past $108,000 with a 3.6% daily gain, showing strong resilience amid Middle East tensions as low exchange reserves and high volume pushed prices toward a key resistance level, according to CoinDesk Research’s technical analysis model.
  • ETH: Ethereum jumped nearly 7% to $2,671 as whales accumulated $3.8 billion worth of ETH and spot ETFs recorded 16 consecutive days of inflows, driving strong breakout momentum above key resistance levels.
  • Gold: Gold fell below $3,400 to $3,383 despite ongoing Middle East tensions, as analysts point to a looming U.S. debt ceiling crisis, not geopolitics, as the key driver for precious metals.
  • Nikkei 225: Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 0.21% in early trade Tuesday as Asia-Pacific markets traded mixed, with investors watching for the Bank of Japan’s policy decision and hopeful signs of de-escalation from Iran.
  • S&P 500: The S&P 500 closed at 6,033.11, up 0.94%, as easing oil prices and hopes that the Israel-Iran conflict will remain contained boosted investor sentiment.

TRON Secures US Public Listing in Deal Backed by Eric Trump

by admin June 16, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

Per a report from the Financial Times, the TRON blockchain has secured a major deal that will allow it to go public in the US. The deal, backed by a Donald Trump tied investment bank called Dominari Securities, includes the creation of a new company, Tron Inc.

TRON To Mimic MycroStrategy In Historic Deal

According to the report, the listing will take place via a reverse merger with SMR Entertainment, a Nasdaq listed company. Two people familiar with the deal clarified that the deal would purchase millions in TRON’s native token, TRX.

In that way, the new company will operate in a similar fashion to MicroStrategy, now called Strategy. The company founded by Michael Saylor has become a financial vehicle for those investors looking to gain exposure to Bitcoin.

Since 2021, MicroStrategy introduced a new treasury strategy to benefit from the rise of the Bitcoin price. The company issues debt, and uses the revenue to increase their BTC holdings. As the cryptocurrency rises, the company’s debt diminishes.

The price of MicroStrategy’s shares saw a 126% spike in a one-year period, according to recent data shared by its Chairman and Bitcoin bull, Michael Saylor. Due to its success, several companies around the world have tried to copy this strategy in their own fashion.

In the new entity formed by the Tron and SMR merger, Eric Trump will take a role. Although, there are no details as to what role or in what capacity Trump will operate within Tron Inc.

The Financial Times noted that Justin Sun, the controversial founder of the TRON blockchain, has made significant efforts to strengthen his ties to the Trump family. Sun is one of the top holders of the $TRUMP token, the cryptocurrency launched by the president of the US in early 2025.

This investment allowed Sun to take part in a private dinner hosted by the head of state at the Trump National Golf Club in Virginia. Furthermore, the Financial Times claims, Sun invested $75 million into the World Liberty Financial, a companied backed by the Trump family and their inner circle.

TRON’s TRX Price Explodes

Following the news of its public listing, the native token of the TRON blockchain experienced a significant rally. Data from CoinGecko indicates that the crypto saw a 3.3% rally over the past hour, pushing its price above the critical area north of $0.27.

TRX’s price trends to the upside on the daily chart. Source: TRXUSDT on Tradingview

The TRX price is likely to continue the trend as the Tron Foundation is expected to inject over $210 million in the token into the new entity. Thus, similar to Strategy’s Bitcoin purchases, TRX could see a spike in its demand.

Moreover, the Financial Times pointed out that the company behind the deal, Dominari Securities, has seen a 580% increase in their value after Eric Trump announced his participation in its advisory board.

The investment back has also seen millions of dollars in capital from Elon Musk companies, including SpaceX and xAI. Is the TRX price above to experience a similar rally? Stay tune to find out.
