Call of Duty: Blacks Ops 7 shares new multiplayer gameplay and details in lengthy new showcase

by admin September 30, 2025

With Call of Duty: Blacks Ops 7’s 14th November release date looming and its early access beta just days away, Activision has aired a big old Call of Duty Next showcase, featuring – amid the enthusiastic shouting and endless “official partner” promotion – a heap of multiplayer news and gameplay, including a look at Warzone’s new Resurgence map, and more.

Call of Duty Black Op 7’s open beta, as you probably already know, runs 5th-8th October, with early access beginning Thursday, 2nd October. Things kick off at 6pm in the UK/10am PDT and those taking part will have access to six 6v6 maps. There’s Blackheart (an off-shore oilrig), The Forge (a Tokyo R&D facility), Toshin’s downtown Tokyo, Exposure (the Australian outback), Imprint (an Alaskan weapons manufacturing facility), and Cortex’s human testing site. Zombies fans, meanwhile, can try out the Vandorn Farm survival map, with beta pre-loading starting tomorrow, 1st October.

Still on maps, Activision also used its showcase to whizz through a few of Black Ops 7’s 18 launch maps (16 for 6v6 matches, two for the series’ new 20v20 Skirmish mode). Colossus, for instance, is a Black Ops 2 “callback”, while Den takes players to a Japanese castle full of 2035 tech. There’s Express, set in a Tokyo train station; Hijacked, whose action unfolds on a Tokyo Bay yacht; Homestead, set in and around David Mason’s Alaskan childhood home, plus Paranoia – a more fantastical map inspired by the nightmare of David Mason’s mind. You can see those and more in the flythrough trailer above, but if your mappetite still isn’t sated, Activision says a further seven multiplayer maps will arrive as part of Black Ops 7’s post-launch Season 1 plans, alongside two Survival maps and one round-based map for Zombies mode. Nuketown 2025, for instance, is due “shortly after launch”.

Weapon-wise, Black Ops 7 features 16 new multiplayer weapons at launch, including the M10 Breacher – a pump-action shotgun that can be charged to reduce spread and land mid-range shots with more accuracy. Additional weapons (both new and returning favourites) are promised – alongside the likes of attachment rewards and weekly challenges – once Black Ops 7’s post-launch seasons get underway. We also got a peak at some of the new Weapon Prestige attachments and camos coming in Black Ops 7, with Activision promising a “big” year for camo fans. Alongside a dedicated camo track in the co-op campaign, there are 16 mastery camos (split across multiplayer, Zombies, Warzone, and co-op), plus plenty more coming as season rewards.

Rounding out the multiplayer portion of Activision’s showcase, there was a brief bit of Black Ops 7’s “very competitive” new Overload mode. This, if you’re unfamiliar, is a 6v6 objective mode in which each team attempts to secure the overload device and get it to one of the oppositions two zones. Success earns the victors one point and eight points equates to a win.

Next up, Zombies mode and its round-based Ashes of the Damned map. Inspired by the legend of the Bermuda Triangle, it’s constructed from landmarks – all with a violent history – dragged into the Dark Ether. There’s a ruined version Janus Towers Plaza, for instance; Black Water Cabin, where a famed horror director drowned his leading lady; Vandorn Farm, home to a murderous family and their unfortunate victims, plus the fractured Southern Georgia town of Ashwood. Between them lie endless waves of respawning undead, including the loot-snatching Ravagers. That’s where your trusty wonder vehicle Tessie comes in though, providing an essential means of transporation that can be augmented with thrusters, chomp attacks, and more.

There’s a closer look at Ashes of the Damned above, and if you like the sound of Vandorn Farm, it’s playable as a Survival map in the imminent beta. More survival locations taken from round-based maps are promised post-launch.

Warzone – Haven’s Hollow Flythrough.Watch on YouTube

Zombies mode also got a nod as Black Ops 7’s showcase turned its attention to Warzone. That’s thanks to Warzone’s new Resurgence map, Haven’s Hollow – a small Appalachian town that might look familiar to Zombies fans. It’s essentially a pre-outbreak version of Liberty Falls, featuring nine unique points of interest across its autumnal expanse. There’s the train station, mansion, lumber mill, riverboat, pond, coal depot, homestead, and Main Street, all of which appear in the flythrough above. And if that’s got you ready to go, Haven’s Hollow arrives with Season 1 later this year.

You’ll need to delve into the full several-hours-long showcase if you want to properly scrutinise Activision’s extensive Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 gameplay. As a reminder, open beta early access begins this Thursday, 2nd October, and the full game launches on 14th November.

Developers report lengthy payment delays on itch.io

by admin September 25, 2025

Developers are reporting delays in receiving payouts from itch.io, with some claiming they have waited for over 100 days without payment.

As first reported by Rascal and picked up by GameDeveloper, developers across social media are sharing their experiences about the delays, with one thread on Reddit receiving hundreds of upvotes as devs try to bring attention to the issue, claiming there has been no response to support tickets raised with the platform.

“From the start, I’ve written to itch.io support multiple times over the past few months — not a single reply to any ticket,” writes indie dev u/seanutsfrox. “To meet their strict tax requirements, I even went to my country’s tax office and provided official documents (something no other payment processor or bank has ever demanded from me). After months, itch.io finally reviewed them and marked my tax profile as ‘Validated.’ And yet, no payouts.

“Meanwhile, my project has been heavily damaged by this. We need funds to continue development, but instead we’ve been left waiting without any explanation, wondering if we’ll ever see our money. I even had a freelancer already working on a contract with us — since itch.io claims payouts happen within 10–14 days, I thought we could rely on them. But when the money never came, we had to cancel the job, which made us look incompetent and wasted the freelancer’s time. Her work was really important to us, and now our timeline is broken because of itch.io’s negligence.”

Seanutsfrox — who claims they are personally awaiting over $6000 — adds that there are “200+ developers reporting the same thing,” with mostly developers outside of the U.S. impacted. It also seems to be primarily affecting developers who collect revenue rather than accept payment through Stripe or PayPal directly.

“No developer should ever be left waiting [four] months without pay, ignored by support, forced to beg for their own money while their projects fall apart,” they added. “If you’re considering selling your game, project, or any product on itch.io, think twice and seriously look for alternatives. At this point, itch io is a scam.”

Itchio’s creator, leafo, recently posted a new post in the Itch.io Community to support developers with “payout or tax-related issues,” saying the company had “refined its payout process” and made it easier for devs to submit a query “without writing an email.”

“We ask that you no longer post requests for payout help on our community forums. We closed the previous topic we had open as it was a temporary solution until we updated some of our processes,” leafo explained. GamesIndustry.biz has reached out to itch.io and will update as/when we receive a response.

Last month, Itch.io confirmed that the indie games platform is still in “ongoing discussion” with its payment processors, following “scrutiny” regarding the site’s adult content. This pressure led to the platform “deindexing” NSFW content from its browse and search pages last week and updating its adult content guidelines to adhere to the terms of its payment processors.

With players stuck in lengthy queues for online-only Skate, those who made it in are comparing its bouncing, belly-flopping traversal to Mario 64

by admin September 19, 2025

EA’s Skate has now released into early access and has already proven so popular there are long queues to get in, with the team fixing ongoing outage issues.

Yet when players do get in, they’re discovering skating isn’t actually the optimal way to get around. In fact, videos on social media make the game look more like Super Mario 64.

One player shared a video of their character rolling and jumping without a skateboard to overtake traffic and speed around the city.

Another player responded with a video of their character similarly rolling and jumping before belly flopping to slide over the ground.

Yet another player has found jumping from their board and flying to be an optimal way to build up speed.

It’s clear, then, Skate is not quite performing as expected. But for now, the studio is busy improving wait times, with the team “hard at work adding more servers and getting more skaters into San Van”, it wrote on social media. “We appreciate your patience.”

As per the game’s subreddit, many players have been sitting waiting in queues, while others have joined a session but been shortly kicked out due to server issues.

As a result, many players have complained about Skate’s online requirement. Developer Full Circle confirmed back in April the game would require an online connection.

“The game and city are designed to be a living, breathing massively multiplayer skateboarding sandbox that is always online and always evolving,” it wrote in an FAQ. “You’ll see bigger things evolve, like changes to the city over time, as well as smaller things, like live events and other in-game activities. In order to deliver on our vision of a skateboarding world, the game will always require a live connection.”

Still, that only works if players are able to get in, for which the studio is at least prioritising a fix.
