How to download and play League of Legends on Mac

by admin October 1, 2025

As one of the biggest MOBA titles in both casual and esports, League of Legends is definitely worth downloading on your PC—but what if your rig runs on macOS? This guide is all about how to install and play LoL on Mac, so you can focus on gaming and leave the worries to us.

League of Legends is a PC-exclusive game that can run smoothly on almost every machine in 2025, thanks to Riot’s focus on optimizing performance. But not all games run on Mac, so you might wonder if LoL is playable on an Apple device—and if so, how to install it.

Can you play League of Legends on Mac

Unlike many popular PC games that are Windows-exclusive, League of Legends offers an official Mac client. But this wasn’t always the case.

Just one download button away. Image via Riot Games

At launch in 2009, LoL was only available on Windows, so players had to bank on workarounds to make it work unofficially. Considering the growing popularity, however, Riot released a Mac version of the game in 2013. So, as of 2025, you just need to download the official Mac installer to play LoL on your Apple device.

After a recent update, some players on Mac have been receiving warning messages about the game moving to Metal graphics from OpenGL and that their devices don’t support Metal. Unless you own an old Mac that doesn’t meet the minimum requirements for LoL, you don’t have to worry about this message.

According to reports, the warning message is wrongly showing up for some players with supported Mac devices due to an internal issue, so just make sure of the system requirements and you should be good.

Mac system requirements for League of Legends

Here are the minimum system requirements to play LoL on a Mac device in 2025:

It’s worth noting that as mentioned on the League of Legends website, the game does not currently support MacOS 12 and 13. Additionally, if you’re having trouble playing the game with MacOS 10.15, the only fix at this point in time is to revert your OS to 10.14.

Ever since Riot released the dedicated version, installing League of Legends on Mac has been a piece of cake. Just follow these steps:

  1. Visit the official League of Legends website.
  2. Click on the Download Mac installer button.
  3. Run the installer. Log into your Riot account when prompted. If you don’t have an account, make one.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions and the game should be ready for you to play in no time.

That’s it. You should be able to jump into the action once the installation is complete.

New Marvel Legends Figures Are Bundled With Exclusive Spider-Man MTG Foil Cards

by admin September 28, 2025

Marvel Legends is crossing over with Magic: The Gathering’s new Spider-Man set with a series of action figures bundled with exclusive MTG foil cards. There are four different figures in the collection so far: Battle-Damaged Spider-Man, Agent Anti-Venom, Mary Jane Watson equipped with the Iron Spider costume, and Man-Wolf.

The Spider-Man Magic: The Gathering set launched today, September 26, but these figures/promo codes arrive over the next two weeks.

$40 | Releases October 10

This Spider-Man figure comes with a “Specactular Spider-Man” foil card that can give you a powerful advantage if you decide to sacrifice it. The figure features Spider-Man in a tattered version of his costume, and it comes with web-shooter, web-shield, and web-line accessories.

$40 | Releases October 2

The foil card included with this toy is “Agent Anti-Venom, Horrifying Healer” and it can bring back a target creature from the graveyard. This card can also deflect, and the action figure is an accurate replica of the powerful anti-symbiote character–the lore around him is way too much to get into right now. For accessories, Agent Anti-Venom comes with several sets of alternate hands, two blast effects, two smoke effects, tendrils, and a powerful arsenal of weapons.

$42 | Available Now

Now sporting a stylish costume that her former husband Spider-Man once wore, Mary Jane’s “Stark Upgrade” foil card can be tapped to add +1/+1 counters to all creatures and vehicles in your game. The figure features over 20 points of articulation and it comes with an alternate masked head, two “thwip” hands, and four articulated Iron Spider legs.

$59.89 | Releases October 2

John Jameson isn’t just an astronaut and the son of Daily Bugle boss J. Jonah Jameson, he’s also the fearsome Man-Wolf. His foil card features a transformative effect, allowing him to tap into primal powers. For his accessories, he’s armed with his sword Stargod, a bow, and several arrows.

A closer look at the included cards.

Ever since it started collaborating with big IP, Magic: The Gathering’s popularity has surged through the roof. The Marvel crossover could be the biggest one yet for the collectible card game, as it focuses not only on Spider-Man and his amazing friends, but also villains like Mysterio, Sandman, and Venom.

The Spider-Man Play Booster Box gets you 30 packs of 14 cards each for a total of 420 Spider-Man-themed MTG cards, and Spidey’s Spectacular Showdown Scene Box will give you three Marvel’s Spider-Man booster packs and two different sets of six scene cards. Other in-stock Spider-Man MTG products include the Spider-Man Bundle and Spidey’s Spectacular Showdown Scene Box.

Magic: The Gathering 2025 Crossover Sets:

Spider-Man is the second major Universes Beyond crossover set for Magic: The Gathering this year. The Final Fantasy set launched in June and is the most popular MTG set ever. In November, Avatar: The Last Airbender joins the MTG universe.

Pokemon Legends Z-A’s new structure and battles have the power to make a Pikachu terrifying – hands-on

by admin September 24, 2025

Even after a little under an hour of hands-on play, it’s clear that Pokemon Legends: Z-A is the most interesting and unique Pokemon title since, er… the last one of these, when Game Freak and The Pokemon Company put out 2022’s Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Now established as what looks like a permanent secondary strand of the ‘main line’ Pokemon titles, Z-A continues with the more bold and experimental development philosophy of Arceus – though this time, I expect further temerity of design – and with it, perhaps a more mixed measure of success.

Back when Legends: Arceus was released, we at VG247 were positively frothing with excitement at the thought of where this series could go. Seeing Z-A, we clearly approached this differently to Pokemon’s developer stewards. We envisioned ‘Legends’ coming to mean Pokemon stories set in the past – Galar as Victorian England, Unova’s Poke-New York in the roaring 20s, or Kalos in the grip of a less bloodless version of the French Revolution where the people and nobility settled matters with Pokemon battles.

In the end we did get Pokemon’s version of France, but not during the revolution. Z-A is once again set in Pokemon’s version of ‘today’, but this time it has a unique twist: the entire game is set in one enormous city, leveraging the status of Paris (in Pokemon’s world known as Lumiose City) as a major built-up area to provide a network of buildings, backstreets, tiny city parks and the like as a new sort of Pokemon world. In this, the spirit of Legends: Arceus is alive but in a mirror image – that game was sparse, full of rolling fields and the like where you’d crawl through long grass to try to surprise an unsuspecting critter or trainer. Z-A is dense, and while things like stealth still exist you’ll instead be hiding around the corner of buildings or behind a parked car.

There is a structural difference to the design of the world, then – but the real significant change comes in combat. For the first time in such a prominent Pokemon release, Z-A shifts to real-time battles. This is still absolutely a role-playing game – but battles now have an extra shot of action-like feeling to them.

Starter for 10-year-olds. | Image credit: Pokemon/Nintendo

Moves are no longer limited by ‘PP’ which drains with each use, for instance – they’re now on a cooldown. New alongside this shift is the fact that battle placement matters – if a Pokemon isn’t physically in the way of a move, that attack will simply whiff. Those previously-mentioned narrow city streets make tactical battlegrounds; a parked taxi is suddenly not just set dressing, but something you as a trainer or your Pokemon can duck behind to avoid incoming attacks.

The act of moment-to-moment play feels a little more segmented, too. The city is a civilized place, so battles can’t happen just anywhere. ‘Wild Zones’ are designated areas where untamed Pokemon roam free, and this is where you’ll be able to enter to catch and battle unaccompanied Pokemon.

Once night falls, trainers can head to the similarly-defined Battle Zones for fights. This is where the titular Z-A Royale takes place: the protagonist tasked with battling their way up from Rank Z through to Rank A. Gym showdowns are replaced with ‘promotion matches’ – gather enough points by defeating opponents in Battle Zones and you’ll gain a ticket that can then be used to go and fight a specific challenger in order to rank up.

The structural change is relatively fascinating and feels like it’ll satisfy. Such regimented segmentation always has the risk of feeling suffocating, but in this hands-on it all tracks and makes sense – and within each zone, some delightful moments await.

Gotta match em all up. | Image credit: Nintendo

I enjoyed, for instance, how perilous the Wild Zone I got to test could feel. The majority of Pokemon there were breezy to battle and acquire, and catching in particular feels more kind in this game because you get a shot (though no guarantee) at catching any defeated wild Pokemon even if you deplete all of their HP. This leads to a generally chill time that channels tooling around the world of Legends: Arceus chain-catching stuff looking for shinies. But then when exploring I clamber atop a rooftop and discover a high-level ‘Alpha’ Pikachu. Its eyes glow red, and it’s absolutely feral.

I try to fight it, expecting the usual Pokemon stuff – being relatively able to cheese through such a fight with healing items and the like. My notes tell a different story. Scrawled hurriedly in my notepad is the following, with grammar tidied and one word not suitable for a preview of a game for children replaced with a bit of blasphemy: “Terrifying level 40 Pikachu. Careful strength and weakness use gives you a chance. Actually, it’s too hard. Oh god, it followed me off the rooftop.”

It’s in this moment, jumping off a rooftop to what I think is safety only to be followed by this hulking, evil Pikachu, that Z-A most thoroughly clicks. Though it feels like tradition with Pokemon, such emotions do inevitably come with caveats.

For one, let’s talk about those environments. They shine in the battle zones, where those tight city streets lend themselves well to light-touch stealth encounters. Back in 1996, Pokemon introduced the concept of line-of-sight between Pokemon trainers initiating battle. If you meet gazes, you fight. Here, in an action RPG, with seamless fights, that concept comes to a pretty glorious natural conclusion. The tall grass stalking of the last game is a foundation; you add to that an urban labyrinth and you’re crouching behind a parked vehicle, or a conveniently-placed crate, waiting for a trainer to turn their back in order to land a sneak attack. Missions given to you in Battle Zones encourage you to engage in such tactics, too. In exploration, the fact you’re using such moves in real time out in the world means the act of using classic Pokemon skills to open up new areas and such feels much more organic than ever before.

But then there’s the flip side: in battle, these things are as much a frustrating obstacle as they are a tactical boon. I watched as a breathtakingly thick Pokemon took my orders to directly attack the enemy as one to stand behind a parked vehicle and whiff its key attack into it, because the enemy was on the other side. The world oscillates in that sense; the brilliance of simple stealth, but then frustration in combat. How static and dead it can often feel, but then a real sense of explorative joy when you stand high on a rooftop and see a distant collectible elsewhere in the city’s sprawl.

Hippos on the roof!? | Image credit: Nintendo

I guess what I’m saying is that it feels like Pokemon, right? These games have long felt like a jumble of strange and fascinating contradictions; of boons and trade-offs. Legends: Z-A feels like it too will strike that balance; sometimes brilliant, sometimes frustrating, but always strangely gripping.

All of this is said, of course, from the standpoint of an extremely short hands-on experience. These games run to as much as 40x longer than what I played; and so it is too early to judge. What I see, in the end, is Pokemon’s caretakers taking a characteristically large swing – with equally characteristic restraint. The result seems to me to be most likely more reminiscent of Legends: Arceus than not – and for my money, that was the best Pokemon game in 20 years. It perhaps is therefore no surprise that I’m eagerly awaiting its release next month – when I can judge the complete package in full.

by admin September 23, 2025

If you’re sitting at your desk, do me a favor and look around for a moment. What’s your setup look like? Do you have a good keyboard? How are your speakers? How big is your monitor? Is there more than one? When it comes to PC gaming, there’s so may areas you can upgrade, and we didn’t even cover the stuff under the hood like your GPU and CPU. with all the shiny, new products you can buy level up your space, it’s easy to overlook something small but important—the mouse.

Your mouse is 50% off how you’re interacting with the games you play, assuming you use mouse and keyboard. It’s time to ditch that ten dollar mouse you picked up in the checkout lane of Staples, and get something solid. The Logitech G Pro X SuperLight 2 wireless gaming mouse right now goes for $180. However, an Amazon limited time deal is currently bringing it down to just $130. That 28% discount saves you $50.

Pokemon Legends Z-A Is Getting DLC, Raichu Mega Evolutions

by admin September 13, 2025

I’m sure Nintendo expected the biggest news of this morning’s Direct to be all the Mario 40th anniversary news or the new Fire Emblem, but in actuality, it was Pokémon Legends: Z-A‘s Mega Dimension DLC. We know nothing about the premise or how it will tie into the RPG’s broader story, but we do know that it is adding not one, but two Mega Evolutions for Raichu, the long-disrespected final evolution of Pikachu. Life is worth living, actually.

The teaser trailer shows Hoopa, the dimension-opening Pokemon, opening a portal to a realm full of new Mega Stones, including two for Raichu. Interestingly enough, both Mega Raichu variants seem to combine elements of both it and Pikachu, with Mega Raichu X having two Pikachu-like tails, and Mega Raichu Y having a body more like Pikachu, with a longer Raichu-style tail and antler-like horns that resemble the lightning bolt at the end of Raichu’s tail. X’s color scheme is also more yellow, similar to Pikachu’s, while Y maintains Raichu’s orange base. Check out the teaser below:

There will no doubt be folks bummed that Mega Raichu X and Y are apparently gated behind a paid DLC. I’m annoyed I likely won’t be able to use either during my main playthrough of Legends: Z-A when it launches next month. After decades of complaining about Raichu not getting any love from Game Freak, I cannot afford to be too picky right now, though. Hopefully there will be some way to access Raichu’s Mega Stones early on in a playthrough after the DLC launches. I am just brainsick enough to play the entire game over again if it means I get to have a Mega Evolution of my favorite Pokémon for the entire run. We don’t currently know how much Mega Dimension will cost, or how long after Legends: Z-A‘s October 16 launch it will be come out.

Reports of mind control exaggerated as Pokemon Legends: Z-A debuts new Mega Evolution

by admin September 10, 2025

Mega Malamar has been announced for Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Eurogamer couldn’t be happier to see its favourite Pokémon get a glow up.

Mega Evolution refers to when a Pokémon undergoes a temporary transformation to increase its power and alter its appearance. In the case of Malamar, its head tentacles have twisted together to resemble a brain and it now has spiked shoulderpads. Unlike its traditional form, Mega Malamar also has longer tentacles and a thinner body, all of which have a beautiful rainbow glow.

Best of all, however, is how Mega Evolution greatly increases Malamar’s hypnotic powers. Perfect for this Dark and Psychic-type squid! If it chooses to, Mega Malamar can rewrite a person’s memories and personality, turning them into a whole new (better) person. We’re sure Mega Malamar would never use these powers for evil or self-promotion though. The official Pokémon website and social media accounts are Malamar-themed, because everyone just wanted to celebrate its special day. Just watch Mega Malamar’s debut video to see people celebrate the joy of Malamar out of their own free will.

SPECIAL REPORT: The Truth About Malamar | Pokémon Legends: Z-AWatch on YouTube

Malamar was already highly notable in the Pokémon universe thanks to the unique evolution requirement you need to meet. Unlike all of those other Pokémon evolutions where you simply stare at the screen, evolving Inkay into Malamar requires turning your whole console upside down. What other Pokémon asks you to put your mind to such good use? I’m sure we can all agree that this, combined with its cool Mega Evolution look, proves Malamar is truly everyone’s best friend.

Mega Malamar is the fourth new Mega Evolution to be announced for Legends: Z-A, with the reveal of Mega Dragonite, Victreebel and Hawlucha coming before it. Since the release of Legends: Z-A is drawing close, we’ll hopefully get a look at more new Mega Evolutions in the coming month. (But none of them will be as awesome as Malamar.) We’ve taken a look at all of the new Mega Evolutions and every returning Pokémon in Legends: Z-A if you want to get an early start on planning your team. Though six Malamars will work for any occasion!

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.

Boxing legends Tyson, Mayweather Jr. to compete in exhibition

In Andreas’ free time, he plays video games, obsesses over music and is a White Sox and 49ers fan. He is also a host for Sirius XM’s Fight Nation. He is also an NAACP Image Award-nominated filmmaker as a producer for the animated short film “Bridges” in 2024.

Boxing legends Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. agreed to compete in an exhibition match next spring. The event will be put on by CSI Sports/Fight Sports, but details regarding a location, date and where the fight will be broadcast have yet to be determined.

“I’ve been doing this for 30 years, and there hasn’t been a single fighter that can tarnish my legacy,” Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) said in a news release. “You already know that if I am going to do something, it’s going to be big and it’s going to be legendary. I’m the best in the business of boxing. This exhibition will give the fans what they want.”

Mayweather, 48, retired after knocking out MMA superstar Conor McGregor in 2017. He has since competed in eight exhibition fights, with his most recent against John Gotti III in August 2024.

Though his bout with Logan Paul was the biggest of his exhibitions to this point, stepping into the ring with former heavyweight champion Tyson (59-7, 44 KOs) is certain to dwarf his previous engagements.

Tyson, 59, last competed in a professional boxing match against Jake Paul in November 2024 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. It was the first time the former heavyweight champion had competed in nearly two decades. The event was a massive success, with 65 million concurrent viewers on Netflix, making it the most-streamed sporting event ever. Tyson lost a unanimous decision to Paul and was far from his devastating form during his heyday.

Tyson recently told ESPN that he had interest in competing in another fight if the right opportunity presented itself.

“When CSI came to me about stepping in the ring with Floyd Mayweather, I thought, ‘No way this happens,’ but Floyd said yes,” Tyson said. “This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen. However, boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable — and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets.

“I still can’t believe Floyd wants to really do this. It’s going to be detrimental to his health, but he wants to do it, so it’s signed and it’s happening!”

Tyson weighed 228.4 pounds in his fight against Paul; Mayweather tipped the scales at 160.8 pounds against Gotti.

“Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather are two of the most compelling names and personalities, with lasting legacies, in all of sports. They are 21st-century icons,” said Richard and Craig Miele, co-founders of CSI Sports/Fight Sports. “Tyson vs. Mayweather will break every broadcast, streaming and economic record set by Mike Tyson in 2024. We are planning a robust promotional campaign complete with weekly premium storytelling and worldwide marketing reach. The event itself will be in a world-class venue and be presented to a global audience with new in-ring technology elements that will reshape how boxing is presented, and scoring is achieved, for years to come.”

Details regarding the number of rounds, weight and more will be revealed at a later date.

Now Playing: Pokemon Legends Z-A – The Biggest Pokemon Shake Up In Decades!

The announcement was made shortly after the reveal of a brand-new Mega Evolution for Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Fittingly, the Pokemon getting the power-up in the game is Hawlucha, a Luchador-themed Pokemon with unique high-flying moves in its arsenal. Hawlucha’s Mega Evolution doubles down on its wrestling inspiration, giving it ornate plumage and making it look ready for a main event match at the next Wrestlemania.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A launches on October 16 for Switch 2 and Switch, and the previous Mega Evolution reveal was done in a manner that makes a strong case for a Pokemon horror movie. The game also changes up the usual turn-based gameplay format by introducing real-time battles and free-for-all showdowns that up to four players can participate in.

The new patch officially commences Season 3, and the Act 1 battle pass lets you grind for plenty of valuable rewards. There are 48 levels of rewards to unlock, but you can get more items by completing Repeating Missions once you’re done with the main path. While the pass will allow you to get plenty of resources, this major patch has more key changes.

Season 3 Ranked

The patch officially starts Season 3 Ranked, available on Aug. 27 (server reset time). While ranked LP progression will be retained, you’ll have to grind through the new Victorious Mission to get fresh skin.

Xin Zhao

Xin Zhao has a new model, fresh animations, ability icons, and more. In short, he has been given a new coat of paint while the abilities and role remain the same. However, once the update is live, his Commando and Imperial skins will cost more RP.

You’ll also get to enjoy an updated lore as you go through his development through the different seasons. The events of the third season, just like those of its two predecessors, are all directly connected to the developments of Arcane (for those who enjoyed the Netflix series).

Doom Bots and Trials of Doom

The new patch also marks the return of the Doom Bots mode with certain changes. This PvE gamemode will allow you to take on Veigar and his army. Survive the bots for 15 minutes, and then take on Veigar while protecting your nexus.

While the core gameplay remains the same, there are new bots, curses, and a difficulty level. This version of Domm Bots will also have something called Trials of Doom. Here, you’ll get to enjoy specific challenges required to defeat Veigar. You’ll find different challenges based on the first three patches before they are all reactivated.

The first trial is Veigar’s Evil, where all the boots receive Veigar’s passive: Phenomenal Evil. The enemies will gain Adaptive Force whenever they hit you with a spell, and Veigar’s spells will remain active for the entire time. In short, prepare your dodging spells if you and your allies want to survive the 15 minutes.

League of Legends Patch 25.17 improvements

Riot continues to make new improvements to the gameplay for the community to enjoy, and here are some major ones in the latest patch.

  • Changes to the third-party app policy will prevent you from enjoying a few features from external apps. Some of these features could eventually be added to the official version so that everyone has equal access.
  • Basic and Advanced minimap views allow you to track what’s happening around you. You can view different timers to track what’s emerging in the jungle, and when you should move in for a potential gank on the enemy.
  • Ultimates and recently used spells will be communicated better to help you analyze the gameplay. Any spells targeting you will be pinged and shown to help you understand what happened.
  • Death Recap has been moved out of the way to show how much damage you dealt, your contribution to the fight, and more.

Plenty of updates are being made to the champions in the latest patch, and we will update them soon in this guide.
