Tarleton State coach Billy Gillispie on leave amid inquiry

by admin October 3, 2025

Tarleton State coach Billy Gillispie has been placed on temporary administrative leave as the university investigates an anonymous complaint, the school announced Friday.

No details of the nature of the complaint were immediately available, and there is no timeline on how long the investigation may take. Associate head coach Glynn Cyprien has taken over as acting head coach.

The school said it would not comment further.

Gillispie faced allegations of player mistreatment while he was the coach at Texas Tech in 2011 and 2012. He resigned as the Red Raiders coach — citing health concerns — in September 2012. The resignation came about a month after the school said it was investigating the claims, which stemmed from Texas Tech players expressing concerns about the way they were being treated by Gillispie.

Questions about Gillispie’s coaching style also were made during his time at Kentucky, including the treatment of players and staff in the athletic department. He was fired in 2009, with Kentucky athletic director saying Gillispie “wasn’t the right fit for the program.” A $3 million settlement over his firing was reached later that year.

Gillispie, 65, is in his sixth season at Tarleton State, the longest of his five Division I head coaching stints, which also include time at UTEP and Texas A&M.

He is 78-74 at Tarleton State, including a 25-10 record in 2023-24 and a CIT appearance. He has gone 226-182 in 13 seasons as a head coach with four NCAA tournament appearances.

Cyprien is a longtime college assistant with stops that include UNLV, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Kentucky, Memphis and Texas Tech.

NYDFS Chief Harris to Leave New York Regulator Next Month

by admin September 29, 2025

New York Department of Financial Services Superintendent Adrienne Harris will leave the regulator next month, she announced Monday.

Harris, a former White House special assistant under former President Barack Obama, will depart NYDFS on Oct. 17, 2025, New York Governor Kathy Hochul said in a statement. NYDFS Executive Deputy Superintendent of Research and Innovation Kaitlin Asrow will take over as acting head of the agency. NYDFS was the first state regulator to issue specific rules for crypto firms with its landmark BitLicense, which came into effect 10 years ago.

In statements, Hochul and Harris thanked each other, with Hochul saying Harris worked “every day to make our financial system work for New Yorkers, while also rebuilding the Department into a regulator fit for the financial capital of the world.”

Harris first took office as the acting superintendent in August 2021, after Hochul nominated her to the role, and was confirmed by New York’s state senate the following January.

“It feels like yesterday and a lifetime ago, all at the same time,” Harris said of her four-year tenure earlier Monday during an appearance at the Digital Asset Compliance & Market Integrity Summit hosted by Solidus Labs.

In that time, she said, NYDFS had issued 11 different pieces of regulatory guidance to bolster the regulator’s landmark BitLicense.

“The industry had already changed so much from 2015 to 2021 when I came in, it felt really important that we start to add meat to the bones of the regulation,” she said.

This included guidance for dealing with stablecoins, blockchain analytics and coin listings, among other pieces of information, she said.

“I think it’s a real testament to what we’ve done out of DFS that folks in both chambers of Congress, folks on both sides of the aisle, come to us for our technical expertise, for advice, for edits, much of which have been incorporated — not all — but into the current market structure bill,” she said.

NYDFS also undertook investigations and enforcement actions, including into the Binance dollar stablecoin (BUSD) issued by stablecoin firm Paxos following an investigation dating back to 2023.

Shiba Inu nears breakout, 5 trillion tokens leave exchanges

by admin September 21, 2025

Shiba Inu has remained in a consolidation phase over the past few weeks, despite the ongoing altcoin season. Still, the slowly forming triangle pattern and the tumbling exchange balances point to a big move ahead.

Summary

  • Shiba Inu’s sideways trading may be masking a bigger shift underway.
  • With more than 5 trillion SHIB pulled from centralized exchanges in recent weeks and a surge in smart money accumulation, signals are pointing to reduced selling pressure and growing confidence among long-term holders.
  • Coupled with technical patterns that suggest a breakout is near, the meme token could be on the verge of a rally despite recent setbacks like the Shibarium hack—making current price action a potential setup for SHIB’s next leg higher.

Shiba Inu (SHIB) token was trading at $0.000013 on Sunday, Sep. 21, inside a narrow range it has remained at in the past few days. This price is about 28% above the lowest level this year.

A potential catalyst for the SHIB price is that investors continue moving their tokens from centralized exchanges. Precisely, over 5 trillion tokens have left exchanges to the current 283 trillion.

Shiba Inu coins exchange reserves | Source: Nansen

Falling tokens on exchanges is a bullish sign that there is reduced selling pressure. Historically, large exchange outflows precede price rallies, as it suggests that holders are not looking to sell them in the short-term.

Similarly, moving tokens to cold storage or self-custody wallets is a sign that investors plan to hold them in the long term. It is a reflection of confidence in the asset’s future.

The ongoing exchange exit of Shiba Inu tokens has coincided with the robust accumulation by investors. These investors now hold over 12.15 billion tokens, a 103% monthly increase.

Their buying is likely a sign that these investors anticipate a rebound and a limited impact of the recent Shibarium hack. It is also a contrarian bet that the coin will take part in the altcoin season.

Shiba Inu price technical analysis

SHIB price chart | Source: crypto.news

The daily timeframe chart shows that the SHIB price remained in a tight range in the past few days. It was trading at $0.000013, which is along the 50-day Exponential Moving Average.

The token has formed a symmetrical triangle pattern whose two lines are nearing their confluence level. Also, the two lines of the MACD indicator have settled at the neutral level, while the Average True Range has retreated.

Therefore, the token will likely have a bullish breakout in the near term, with the next important resistance being at $0.0001592, which is about 25% above the current level. A move below the lower side of the triangle pattern will invalidate the bullish Shiba Inu price forecast.

Big Tech Tells H-1B Workers Not to Leave Country Due to Trump’s New Policy

by admin September 21, 2025

Donald Trump’s announcement on Friday that his administration will impose a $100,000 annual fee on H1-B visa applications, which allows foreign laborers in specialty occupations to work in the United States, has sent industries and governments into a spiral of confusion. With the policy set to go into effect Sunday, Big Tech companies are reportedly telling H-1B holders in their workforces to either remain in the United States or return from overseas before the new policy is enacted, according to CNBC.

According to the report, Amazon sent a memo to its employees advising workers on an H-1B or H-4 visa holders (given to dependent family members of H-1B workers) to return from overseas before 12:01 a.m. ET on September 21. Microsoft reportedly sent out a similar message, warning its employees that the Trump administration’s policy is “structured as a travel restriction” and international travel could put their worker status at risk. It advised H-1B visa holders to cancel future travel plans and remain in the US “for the foreseeable future.”

Tech firms are by far the biggest users of the H-1B visa program. Five of the top six employers of H-1B workers are Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Apple, and Google, according to data from Citizenship and Immigration Services. Under the new rules, which would require either the H-1B visa holder or their sponsor to pay $100,000 annually to keep the work permit active, Amazon could, in theory, be staring down a $1 billion bill every year to keep the more than 10,000 H-1B visa holders it currently employs in its workforce.

But tech is also far from the only industry that counts on specialized labor from overseas. According to the Business Standard, over 30% of medical residents in the United States are international graduates, and between 10,000 to 43,000 residency spots are currently filled by H-1B visa holders. There is an ongoing doctor shortage in the country that was expected to worsen without new restrictions. The Association of American Medical Colleges projected a shortage of 20,200 to 40,400 primary care doctors by 2036, prior to the new H-1B fees.

It’s not just industry players freaking out, either. Foreign governments are scrambling to respond to the new policy, with little lead time to sort through all the details. “This measure is likely to have humanitarian consequences by way of the disruption caused for families. Government hopes that these disruptions can be addressed suitably by the U.S. authorities,” India’s Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. South Korea’s foreign ministry also said it is sorting out the potential implications for Korean workers, per CNBC.

The Trump administration, as has become customary for its policy prescriptions, is spending the day trying to sort out the ill-defined information it initially provided. Axios reported that officials have clarified the new H-1B visa fees won’t apply to existing holders of valid visas re-entering the country, so workers should be able to get back to the country without getting hit with a $100,000 fee. Reportedly, the fee won’t go into effect until the next cycle of new applicants to the H-1B program. Whether visa holders want to risk taking this administration at its word is another question.

Public Keys: Alt Autumn Arrives, Kindly Investors Leave Bitcoin Stock, and Here Comes the SOL

by admin September 20, 2025

In brief

  • Rex-Osprey launched XRP and DOGE ETFs, and the SEC debuted streamlined listing standards for commodity-based trust shares.
  • Forward Industries became Solana’s first $1 billion treasury company, with Helius planning a $500 million SOL treasury raise
  • KindlyMD shares dropped 54% after filing S-3 registration, releasing $200 million in discounted shares that created sell pressure

Public Keys is a weekly roundup from Decrypt that tracks the key publicly traded crypto companies.

Alt Autumn loading

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission press release didn’t actually mention altcoins, but crypto ETF hopefuls haven’t wasted time rushing their funds toward the starting line.

The regulator has streamlined generic listing standards for commodity-based trust shares, meaning that as long as applicants meet the listing standards of the Nasdaq, Cboe BZX, and NYSE Arca exchanges, they can opt out of applying for a rule change for individual funds like every other crypto ETF issuer so far.

The rule change didn’t have unanimous support, though. Commissioner Caroline Crenshaw said in a statement Wednesday that the new rule amounts to “passing the buck on reviewing these proposals and making the required investor protection findings, in favor of fast tracking these new and arguably unproven products to market.”

Rex-Osprey was first out of the gate with its Rex-Osprey XRP ETF and Rex-Osprey DOGE ETF. The company is also working to bring a leveraged option to market, the Rex-Osprey DOJE Growth & Income ETF, for traders who want big risks and big rewards.

It’s still early, as the filing doesn’t yet mention a fee. But the objective is to pay weekly distributions by selling calls, while targeting 1.05 to 1.5 times the daily move of its newly trading DOJE Dogecoin ETF—resetting exposure every day. It’s a product for short-term traders, not buy-and-hold investors.

Dogecoin jumped as high as $0.28 earlier this week on the bullish news, but the gains haven’t been long lasting. At the time of writing, DOGE was down over 5% to $0.26.

Kindly leave

KindlyMD CEO David Bailey did a pre-flight check on Monday, pointing out the exits to investors who weren’t comfortable with some near-term volatility. The company’s shares dropped 54% to $1.26 that day. And after the closing bell on Friday, the price hasn’t improved much.

The company’s shares—which trade on the NasdaqGM under the NAKA ticker symbol—finished the day trading for $1.40, after having lost 6% in the past day and down 87% over the last month.

The company became a Bitcoin treasury company when it merged with Nakamoto Holdings, Bailey’s BTC holding company, earlier this year. The newly formed firm jumpstarted its Bitcoin treasury vision with a $200 million PIPE deal. But the discounted shares that were sold during that round were essentially locked until the company filed its S-3 registration with the SEC.

Once the registration was filed and deemed effective, there was $200 million worth of discounted shares creating sell pressure.

Bailey, ever the optimist, found a silver lining.

“I will say one of the unintended consequences of the stock being down is [that] everyone can buy in relatively cheap and ride with us,” he wrote on X. “The past week we’ve put up serious volume and one or two more days like yesterday and we’ll have churned and reset the cap table. Then we’ll have our convicted and aligned shareholder base.”

Grayscale has also listed its Digital Large Cap Fund after playing red light, green light with the SEC for months. The fund, which trades under the GDLC ticker, tracks a basket of assets that contains XRP, Solana, Cardano, Bitcoin, and Ethereum.

Treasured SOL

Solana got its first $1 billion treasury company, but that was just the beginning of bullish news for SOL digital asset treasuries.

The same day Forward Industries crossed the $1 billion mark, Helius announced plans to raise $500 million to build its own Solana treasury.

Two days later, Forward Industries debuted an at-the-market offering to raise another $4 billion in cash to buy more SOL. If it does raise the cash and spend the bulk of it buying Solana tokens, that could more than double the $3.1 billion worth of SOL already sitting with publicly traded companies.

Then, on Thursday, former chief legal officer at Kraken, Marco Santori, was named CEO at newly renamed Solana treasury Solmate. The company made its debut as a digital asset treasury by announcing a $300 million raise, and saw its stock soar 500%.

The news has been bullish for SOL, but not enough to save it from the malaise that’s hit the rest of the crypto market. At the time of writing, Solana was lagging 4% behind its price on Thursday and changing hands for about $238.

Other Keys

BitLicense boost: Newly IPO’d Bullish saw its shares jump on news that it’s been granted a BitLicense by the New York State Department of Financial Services. That means it’s now approved to operate in the state as a digital asset trading and custody business, and BitLicense aims to expand its broader U.S. presence as a result.

Itty, bitty buy: Strategy added $60 million worth of Bitcoin to its BTC treasury this week, the smallest buy it’s announced in a month. Although the company has raised around $68.2 million through its various preferred stock offerings, the company only spent $60.2 million on Bitcoin, leaving it with around $8 million in extra cash.

Weapons director says his Resident Evil movie will leave everything ‘intact’ from the games: ‘I’m not gonna steal Leon and put him in an original story’

by admin September 19, 2025

Zach Cregger is on a roll. The writer and director of 2022’s Barbarian and this year’s Weapons now has two solid horror hits under his belt, and is in pre-production on his next one: a Resident Evil movie planned for 2026.

That’s good news for Resident Evil fans who might otherwise be a bit wary about yet another new Resi movie—the film franchise was already rebooted once, just four years ago, with the thoroughly mid Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. Cregger’s track record, though based on a small sample size (at least when it comes to feature films) is a good reason to be optimistic.

And for those wondering which game and characters this new Resi movie will be based on, it looks like the answer is: none of them.

Related articles

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Cregger confirmed that while the 2026 film will take place in the Resident Evil universe, “It’s an entirely original story,” instead of being based on any one specific game. Cregger is also steering away from major Resident Evil characters like Leon S. Kennedy.

“I’m not gonna steal Leon and put him in an original story. I think that would be presumptuous,” Cregger told EW. “But I respect the games enough where I’m gonna tell a Resident Evil story in the Resident Evil canon that still leaves everything they love intact from the games, you know what I mean?”

I think I know what he means. When using a character people are already familiar with, like say Master Chief in the recent Halo TV series, you run the risk of disappointing people who have expectations of that character, like when you show his naked butt, or when he has sex. A safer and more creative approach is to handle it like the Fallout series, which creates mostly original characters and sets them loose in a familiar world.

Both Barbarian and Weapons are effective not just because they’re scary, but because they’re intriguing. By presenting the story of both films from the perspective of different characters and jumping around in time, we don’t get all the information in a linear fashion, which gives both movies a fun sense of mystery. At other times we get information before certain characters do, too, and then we’re left dreading the horrible things we know are coming their way.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

I’m curious if and how Cregger will use similar methods in his Resident Evil movie.

“I think that when you see it, you’ll understand how I can be obsessed with original ideas and still make a movie that is an IP-based thing,” Cregger said. “I know that doesn’t make a lot of sense now, but I hope that it will later.”

Cregger’s Resident Evil movie is scheduled to be released, wow, exactly one year from today, on September 18, 2026. Confirmed in the cast is Austin Abrams, who played the role of James, the drug-addict, in Weapons, and Paul Walter Hauser, who played Ed in this year’s The Naked Gun and Mole Man in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

New Intel executive reshuffle sees products chief Holthaus leave after 30 years

by admin September 9, 2025

  • Intel’s Michelle Johnston Holthaus leaves the company after 30+ years
  • Further leadership roles appointed, including a new hire
  • CEO Lip-Bu Tan wants to flatten company leadership

Senior Intel exec Michelle Johnston Holthaus will be departing the company after more than three decades, including a short stint as interim co-CEO with David Zinsner after ex-CEO Pat Gelsinger’s departure.

Holthaus’ most recent role as Chief Exec of Products comes to a close after 10 months, and the company will not be rehiring for this role.

Acknowledging Holthaus’ transformational impacts, new CEO Lip-Bu Tan noted: “She has made a lasting impact on our company and inspired so many of us with her leadership.”

The company also announced the appointment of Kevork Kechichian as EVP & GM of Data Center Group, bringing more than 30 years’ chip industry experience from Arm, NXP Semiconductor, Qualcomm and more.

Jim Johnson becomes SVP & GM of Client Computing Group after around four decades at Intel, Srinivasan Iyengar becomes the head of a new Central Engineering Group, and Naga Chandrasekaran steps up at EVP & CTO of Intel Foundry to oversee development, manufacturing and go-to-market.

The changes come amid Intel’s ongoing efforts to flatten its hierarchical structure, resulting in more leaders reporting directly to Tan. By streamlining operations, cutting jobs and rebuilding its engineering culture, Tan hopes Intel can reposition itself to succeed going forward.

The news comes a couple of weeks after Intel reached an agreement with President Trump, whereby the US Government would invest $8.9 billion in Intel to help strengthen its position and bolster domestic American manufacturing.

A move that has drawn its fair share of public scrutiny, including remarks made by Intel itself about the potential implications of having such political backing.

Intel shares are up 21% this year to date, but the company’s market cap ($113.87 billion) falls far behind that of Nvidia ($4.097 trillion), now ranked as the world’s most valuable company.

‘PLEASE DON’T NERF COYOTE’: The new Helldivers 2 warbond has a fire-breathing rifle so good that players are begging Arrowhead to leave it alone

by admin September 5, 2025

While the metroidvania inclined celebrate the release of a long-awaited bug game, Helldivers 2’s stalwart protectors of freedom are hard at work ensuring no bugs will know another day of peace. This week, the Into the Unjust update kicked off a new offensive into Terminid strongholds, a directive that’s proving tougher than expected.

A new “Rupture” class of Terminid, recognizable by its red armor plating and burrowing technique, is wreaking havoc on reinforcements. While players have identified effective weapons to counter the novel threat, it’s no coincidence that the latest premium warbond, Dust Devils, is packing what might be the ultimate anti-Terminid primary: the AR-2 Coyote.

The most active corner of the Helldivers 2 community has already anointed the Coyote to gun royalty, singing its praises against bugs and preemptively begging Arrowhead not to nerf it.

Related articles

It’s really a thing of beauty: With a rounded profile, long barrel, and curved magazine, the Coyote is undoubtedly meant to evoke an AK-47. Its baseline stats aren’t extraordinary for its weapon class, but its numbers don’t really communicate why it kicks carapace.

The Coyote’s main draw is its incendiary ammunition, a first for non-laser assault rifles. As fire is comfortably the best status effect in terms of raw damage (and especially good for bugs), the Coyote flashes its teeth by unleashing a 45-round magazine into a wave of advancing bugs, killing most on contact and setting the rest on fire to die seconds later. I didn’t even mention that it has medium penetration, making it one of just four assault rifles that can punch through the Rupture strain’s armor.

I don’t wish to be dramatic. from r/Helldivers

When you look at the AR-2 Coyote in detail, it’s as if Arrowhead was trying to design the last Terminid gun you’ll ever need:

  • High damage: Base damage is weaker than other medium-pen ARs, but the fire damage adds big
  • Medium penetration: so it rips through anything smaller than a Charger
  • Fire ammo: You can literally fire one bullet at a bug, then watch it die from fire in seconds
  • Large magazine: A 45-round magazine (without any upgrades) means you can shoot everything chasing you before a reload is necessary
  • Easy recoil control: The Coyote kicks harder than a Liberator, mind you, but its recoil pattern is a steady vertical climb that’s easy to compensate for. Also, it has unlockable grips.

It’s the sort of gun that just feels comfortable and fun as soon as you use it, which is what you want when spending $10 on a warbond. Nerfs wouldn’t surprise me, but a post from redditor RandomGreenArcherMan offers sharp points that toss cold water on the Coyote’s dominance: its lower base damage means it kills some enemies slower than a Liberator, burning doesn’t tend to matter against smaller enemies that die in one bullet anyway, and it doesn’t have access to 60 or 80-round magazine upgrades.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

Plus, ArcherMan reckons it’s not great against Automatons, who aren’t as easy to burn and reward precision headshots. That’s not to suggest the Coyote isn’t a sterling product of Super Earth engineering, just that it’s currently being deployed in its ideal warzone: bugs with medium armor.

Dogecoin Whale Empties Binance: 52.9 Million DOGE Leave World’s Largest Crypto Exchange

by admin August 27, 2025

The market has been choppy all week, but one thing stood out from the usual chartspotting: a new Dogecoin whale pulled 52.9 million DOGE off the world’s largest crypto exchange, Binance.

That is almost $12 million worth of liquidity that left the exchange in just under a day. The movements came in two big tranches, first 32.9 million DOGE, then another 20 million, both routed into a wallet that appeared only recently and now holds the whole stash.

The scale is not as important as the context here. Dogecoin has a circulating supply in the hundreds of billions, but when a single address consolidates that much volume, it can change how the order book functions in the short term.

Source: Onchain Lens via Nansen

Binance is still the busiest place for DOGE, but now it looks like they have fewer of the coins available. This is usually seen as a sign that the holder does not want to trade them on the open market, but rather just hold on to them. This idea has been backed up by the past, when similar outflows happened before recoveries from local lows.

Dogecoin’s price roller coaster

Prices have been changing a lot lately. DOGE dropped to $0.1899 earlier this week, but then it went up to $0.2205 at press time. The whale’s timing lined up with that bounce, so now we are left wondering if this is just opportunistic accumulation or the start of something bigger.

The next important number to watch is $0.2350, but the bigger picture is that there is less money on the market and more power in the hands of one wallet.
