Eight games, including an overlooked Metroidvania, will leave PlayStation Plus in September

by admin August 19, 2025

The games set to leave PlayStation Plus Extra in September have been revealed. The eight titles include some very good games, so you might want to make some time before 16th September to get them played.

As these games are part of the Game Catalogue and not the monthly games that you claim as part of PS Plus Essential, these games will no longer be playable from 16th September even if they are in your library.

Leaving PS Plus Extra on 16th September:

  • UFC 5 (PS5)
  • The Plucky Squire (PS5)
  • Night in the Woods (PS5, PS4)
  • Road 96 (PS5, PS4)
  • Pistol Whip (PSVR2)
  • Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir (PS4)
  • FIST: Forged In Shadow Torch (PS5, PS4)
  • Dragon’s Crown Pro (PS4)

Of the bunch, I’d certainly recommend FIST: Forged In Shadow Torch, especially if you are partial to a Metroidvania. Pistol Whip is superb if you have PS VR2, and the Plucky Squire is definitely worth a look even though it didn’t quite live up to pre-launch expectations. Night in the Woods is also excellent.

In fact, why stop there… Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir and Dragon’s Crown Pro are also very good games. So, really, what I’m saying is, don’t rush to play UFC 5 (which is fine, but just more UFC) or Road 96 (didn’t enjoy the writing on this, unfortunately), but all the others are worth your time.

Borderlands 3, Sea of Stars, and more to leave Xbox Game Pass at the end of August

by admin August 18, 2025

Every month Xbox gives and and it takes. While we get new games added to Xbox Game Pass throughout each month, in the middle and the end of the month we also see a bunch of games leave the service.

At the end of August the following games will leave Game Pass according to the recently updated Xbox App:

  • Borderlands 3 Ultimate Edition
  • Sea of Stars
  • Paw Patrol Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay
  • This War of Mine: Final Cut
  • Ben 10: Power Trip

Of those games, there are a couple of standouts that you should try to play before they leave Game Pass.

Sea of Stars is a three-player co-op turn-based RPG that Eurogamer awarded 4 stars in our Sea of Stars review. This War of Mine: Final Cut is the game 11 bit made before going on to create Frostpunk and The Alters.

In This War Of Mine you do not play as an elite soldier, rather a group of civilians trying to survive in a besieged city; struggling with lack of food, medicine and constant danger from snipers and hostile scavengers. The game provides an experience of war seen from an entirely new angle.

Borderlands 3 Ultimate Edition has its fans (not everyone enjoyed what Gearbox did with the third game in the series), and you might want to give it a whirl ahead of Borderlands 4 releasing in September.

Multiplayer stealing sim Thick As Thieves lets you leave snide calling cards when you beat people to the loot

by admin June 22, 2025

While prowling the ramparts of this year’s Summer Game Fest, I rode a zipline to a broken attic window and snuck into a sealed chamber containing Thick As Thieves, the unofficial multiplayer Thief game from Otherside Entertainment. Also in the sealed chamber: celebrated Looking Glass dude and Deus Exman Warren Spector, who walked us through a hands-off demo of the PvPvE heisting sim.

I didn’t, if I’m honest, see much that wasn’t broadly covered by Jeremy Peel’s write-up of Thick As Thieves from last December. As such, I’m in two minds about whether to do a full impressions piece – this news article is testing the waters. But I did turn up a few objects of novelty. For one, the new multiplayer burgling sim features an ability that lets you pose temporarily as an NPC, as with the Semblance power in Dishonored: Death Of The Outsider. For another, it turns out that when you rob a joint, you can leave a knavish calling card for other players hunting the same treasure.

It’s possible, Spector told me, that you’ll be able to customise your calling cards, beyond just displaying your player alias. Being a fundamentally vindictive person, I already have a few ideas for what I’d write on mine.

[placeholder]

The earlier bird caught the worm.

The second mouse did not get the cheese.

The third anteater did not bag the swag.

The fourth raccoon did not scoop the loot.

You snoozed and you losed.

Opportunity knocked.

The real treasure was hopefully the friends you made along the way.

IOU one quest reward

Let me guess, someone stole your sweetroll.

Behind you.

Naturally, a topic like this demands the attention of the full Treehouse. I asked our recently recruited newsfiend Mark what he’d put on his card, and he suggested transcribing the entirety of this Seinfeld video into the textbox. James, our hardware Gandalf, came back with “didn’t expect weak foe”. Reviews reassembler Brendy had the pithiest and, I think, most obnoxious proposal: “first”.

But you, reader dear – what would you leave on your catburgling calling card?

Telegram Boss Pavel Durov Temporarily Permitted to Leave France: Report

by admin June 19, 2025

In brief

  • Telegram co-founder and CEO Pavel Durov was arrested in France last year.
  • Authorities allege illegal material was being shared on the crypto-friendly app.
  • Durov will be allowed to travel to Dubai for just two weeks.

Embattled Telegram co-founder and CEO Pavel Durov may leave France to travel to Dubai, according to a Thursday report in the French daily Le Monde.

Durov, who was arrested in France last year on allegations his crypto-friendly platform was complicit in allowing illegal material to be shared on the app, will be able to leave the country starting July 10. It is the second time he has received such permission since being detained.

In April, French authorities allowed Durov to briefly travel to Dubai—but not to the United States. Telegram’s offices are headquartered in Dubai. Durov had to pay a €5 million ($5.7 million) bond and report to the authorities twice a week as part of the deal at the time.

Telegram could not immediately be reached for comment.

French police allege that criminals have been using the app and that Telegram was not doing enough to moderate content on it.

They have also said that Durov was under investigation for using certain types of cryptography on the platform in the country without permission.

The app has changed some of its functions since Durov has been cooperating with the authorities following his arrest. Users who now try to share illegal content could have their IP addresses and phone numbers passed to authorities, the app announced last year.

Russian-born Durov, who is worth $13.9 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaire’s Index, frequently talks about civil liberties and the importance of freedom.

His arrest last year outraged many in the crypto community—and many out of it—with prominent figures like whistleblower Edward Snowden and Tesla boss Elon Musk criticizing the French law enforcement’s move.

Messaging app Telegram is popular in the crypto world, and supports a number of “mini apps” that allow users to earn digital tokens.

A top blockchain, The Open Network, was created by Telegram but then abandoned in 2020 due to regulatory issues.

Development then continued externally via a community of independent programmers. Users can earn its native token, TON, the 21st biggest cryptocurrency by market cap, in the app.

What is the leave penalty in Elden Ring Nightreign?

by admin June 2, 2025

It depends. On something.

Published: Jun 2, 2025 12:02 pm

Even though Elden Ring: Nightreign can be played solo, the real heart of the experience lies in its online co-op mode. You’ll want to stick together as a team to have a greater chance at defeating the foes scattered across the land of Limveld.

Sometimes, your team members just aren’t worth spending 40 minutes with, and it’s reasonable to be tempted to leave mid-run. But what happens if you pull the plug on a disastrous expedition? Here’s how you’re penalized for leaving an active expedition in Elden Ring: Nightreign.

Leave penalty in Elden Ring: Nightreign

If you leave an active expedition in Elden Ring: Nightreign, you may be penalized for an unspecified duration and will not be able to access matchmaking until the penalty period is over.

Are you sure? Screenshot by Dot Esports

That said, my experience with trying to get penalized was unsuccessful. For the sake of this guide and science, I abandoned three different consecutive sessions and was warned about being penalized every single time. However, despite the warnings, I was able to continue matchmaking without a hitch.

I guess I’m above the law. Screenshot by Dot Esports

So, while there is definitely a penalty system in place, it isn’t exactly that strict, or even consistent. There are reports of users being restricted from matchmaking for around 10-15 minutes, but like I said, I was safe despite breaking the law several times.

I don’t recommend leaving every other session, but if you’re struggling to communicate or just can’t be bothered, there isn’t any major harm in leaving a session.

Also, from what I can tell, if you’re thrown out of a session due to a technical error, it doesn’t count as a penalty in Elden Ring: Nightreign.

Can you rejoin a session after leaving in Elden Ring: Nightreign?

Yes, if you leave a session in Elden Ring: Nightreign, you’ll be given the option to rejoin it from the main menu after you hit continue.

Can you really show your face, though? Screenshot by Dot Esports

If you cancel at this point, you’ll return to the Roundtable Hold and start a new session. If the session you left is unavailable, you’ll be sent to the Roundtable Hold as well.

Overall, the punishment for leaving a session in Elden Ring: Nightreign isn’t exactly a big concern. You might be timed out for a few minutes, but it isn’t something to lose sleep over. From Software might increase the penalty severity in a later patch because the wording is still pretty vague, and there is room for increasing the penalty duration if it becomes a widespread problem.

That said, I don’t think it’s their main concern at the moment. If you do feel like leaving a session, though, maybe throw in an emote before exiting. Nothing like a random gesture to show how much this betrayal means to you.

Critical security flaw could leave over 100,000 WordPress sites at risk

by admin May 29, 2025

  • A flaw in TI WooCommerce Wishlist allows threat actors to upload arbitrary files
  • Since the files can be malicious, they could fully take over a website
  • A patch is not yet released, so users should take care

A critical-severity vulnerability in a popular WordPress plugin is possibly exposing hundreds of thousands of websites to different risks, including complete website takeover.

Security researchers from Patchstack have claimed TI WooCommerce Wishlist carried an arbitrary file upload flaw, which allowed actors to upload malicious files to the underlying server without authentication.

The vulnerability is now tracked as CVE-2025-47577, and has a severity score of 10/10 (critical).

The TI WooCommerce Wishlist plugin is an extension for WooCommerce stores that allows users to create and manage wishlists, saving and sharing their favorite products.

Besides the social sharing options, the plugin comes with AJAX-based functionality, multiple wishlist support in the premium version, email notifications, and more.

According to The Hacker News, it has more than 100,000 active installations, meaning that the potential attack surface is rather large. To make matters worse, these are e-commerce sites, where visitors usually come to spend money, further compounding the risk.

At press time, the newest version of the plugin is 2.9.2, last updated six months ago. Since the patch has not yet been released, users who fear an attack are advised to disable and remove the plugin until a fix is released.

The silver lining here is that successful exploitation is only possible on websites that also have the WC Fields Factory plugin installed and running, and the integration is enabled on the TI WooCommerce Wishlist plugin.

WC Fields Factory is a free WooCommerce plugin that allows store owners to add custom fields to product pages, variations, checkout forms, and the WordPress admin interface.

It supports different field types such as text, number, email, date picker, and more. The plugin allows for dynamic pricing adjustments based on field inputs, field visibility rules, and role-based access controls, as well, and it offers a drag-and-drop form designer.

Worried that Nintendo Switch 2 stock levels could leave you without a console until 2026? Well, Ninty’s reportedly done a deal with Samsung that might help

by admin May 20, 2025

Despite all the calls for Nintendo to drop its price, everyone and their mum has been trying to pre-order a Switch 2 now that they have the chance, leading to fears Ninty might not be able to make enough consoles to meet all the demand in timely fashion. The good news is that it sounds like a deal with Samsung could help supercharge Switch 2 production a bit.

It’s worth noting that to this point, pretty much all the chatter about Switch 2 sales has had the spectre of an unstable US tariff situation hanging over it, with any change in that threatening to potentially throw a spanner in the works. Hence even Nintendo itself putting out a launch sales forecast that most analysts reckoned was playing things safe.

According to a new report from Bloomberg, Nintendo’s opted to do a deal with Samsung to produce chips for the new console, a move that could position the Switch 2 maker to up its production of Mario’s newest home box.

The deal has a chance to allow Nintendo to manufacture and sell 20 million Switch 2 units by the end of March 2026, a higher watermark than before, with the possibility for Samsung to “ramp up further if needed, though much would depend on capacity at hardware assemblers”.

Right, here comes the nerdy bit, though I appreciate that’s a bit of a rich thing to write in a story that was already about video games. Samsung is reportedly producing these chips using an 8-nanometer node, and landing this deal will help it in its fight against the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co for the upper hand in the chip making market.

More interestingly for us regular folks, Bloomberg reports that Samsung is already pushing for OLED panels to be used whenever Nintendo inevitably does its Switch 2 hardware refresh down the line, putting out a slightly swankier version for those with disposable income and a desire for better tech.

Are you hoping to grab a Switch 2 by 2026, and how much fun have you had trying to grab one so far if you’re participated in the pre-order wars? Let us know below!
