Curveball Leisure launches full-service publishing division

Welsh distributor Curveball Leisure has launched Curveball Games, a game publishing division aimed at supporting “unique” digital and physical titles from indie to AA studios across the globe.

Announced on September 1, the new publisher is helmed by senior publishing manager Ed Gregory, formerly of PlayStation and PQube.

Alongside Gregory, the Curveball Games team has recently brought on board product marketing manager James Megretton (formerly of Sumo Digital) and community manager Richard Flint (formerly of PQube), with the publisher stating that “further expansion of the team is anticipated moving into 2026.”

“The industry’s faced real turbulence over the past two years, and whilst there’s evidently still some bumpy roads ahead, we are still seeing some nimble green shoots of recovery,” said Ed Gregory.

“This moment calls for a fresh approach, and that’s where Curveball Games comes in. Passion drives this industry, but studios need more than passion to thrive.

“Our role as a publisher is to champion developers, nurture creativity, and provide the support they truly need. With our team’s experience and the backing of the wider Curveball group, we feel we’re in a strong position to help surface the next wave of standout talent.”

While Curveball Leisure and its retail division, The Game Collection, have their headquarters in Swansea in Wales, the publishing division will work out of Cardiff.

The publisher already has established partnerships with Wales Interactive, Top Hat Studios, Duality Games, Reignite Group, British game designer Kevin Toms, and Riddlebit Software on several future physical and digital releases.

“Over the past 20 years, Curveball has grown from humble beginnings into one of Wales’ growing success stories, rooted in the physical media market, a space where we’ve built a strong global presence and remain deeply invested,” said Andrew Naunton, Curveball CCO.

Ethereum NFT brand Pudgy Penguins has teamed up with Mythical Games to launch Pudgy Party, a mobile party game which is now available on iOS and Android.

The game looks and feels similar to games like Fall Guys and Stumble Guys, with colorful party battles where players race through and try to survive unique mini-games.

Each round is designed to feel different with multiple challenges players can expect new twists every time they join a match.

A Game Full of Fun Built on Blockchain

The Pudgy Party game is built on the Mythical Platform and integrates blockchain quietly in the background. When a player joins the game, a wallet is automatically created for them with them even knowing.

“The Web3 stuff is kind of just seamlessly behind it. You’re suddenly getting assets and you’re leveling them up, and you can change them and you can burn them for other things. All that’s fairly hidden from the user initially.” Mythical Games CEO John Linden explained in a press release.

Memes, Costumes, and Endless Play

The game’s stars are the Pudgy Penguins characters, which are already well known on social media and in toy stores. Each penguin has a fun personality and can be dressed in costumes or upgraded with emotes and other items. Some costumes can also be minted as NFTs, which means they can be traded on Mythical’s marketplace.

At launch, the game started with a seasonal event called Dopameme Rush. This event is based on internet memes and includes funny costumes like John Pork and Tung Tung Sahur. The game will have new seasons every month, with both free and premium passes. Players can also take part in tournaments and leaderboard competitions.

To help speed up unlocking those Battlefield 6 items, Battlefield 2042 is turning on the double XP hose every weekend until the new game launches

As Battlefield fans far and wide channel their Battlefield 6 anticipation into revisits of older chapters of the series, only one is offering goodies usable in the new game. Battlefield 2042 is hosting a “Road to Battlefield” event with a free battle pass offering new guns and 24 exclusive cosmetics for Battlefield 6.

Good deal, except the battle pass is a bit of a grind as-is. There are a lot of non-BF6 items in there that folks don’t care as much about—many are only playing for the BF6 stuff, and even 2042 fans are planning to leave it behind when the new game comes out—so folks are a little annoyed that they might not get all the good stuff before time’s up.

DICE says not to worry, because from now until the launch of Battlefield 6, every weekend is double XP weekend. Sweeter words never spoken.

“We’ve heard your concerns that you might have missed out on an XP weekend already, or might miss one of the upcoming ones, making it harder to catch up and get all the items from the Free Battlepass you’ve wanted. We therefore will have a double XP event every weekend until the Free Battlepass ends on October 7,” the update blog reads.

“Additionally, the last two weekends will feature triple XP gains, so keep those circled in your calendar!”

Triple XP? Is that even legal? Now that’s how you send a Battlefield off with a bang.

With double XP on, I jumped into a few matches today and started flying through the pass. If you’re looking for max XP grindage, I’d recommend playing Breakthrough as a Medic, chilling just behind the frontline, and going absolutely bananas with revives. Battlefield 2042 already gives so much XP for support actions, so the more bandages and ammo bags you can throw down, the better.

Folks are squarely focused on those BF6 goodies, but the rest of the free pass is a treat for longtime fans. The bundle of player cards, icons, and skins reference past Battlefields dating back to Bad Company 2, including some that highlight well-known community members. It’s a fun walk down memory lane, so long as that walk only goes as far back as 2010 (sorry, BF2, 2142, and 1943 diehards).

Keeping with the fan-pleasing theme of the event, Battlefield 2042 also got what will likely be its final new map: a futuristic take on Iwo Jima. With an active volcano covering the island’s lush beaches with ash and molten runoff, it’s not the prettiest version of Iwo Jima, but it’s at least distinct.

Ethereum NFT brand Pudgy Penguins and game developer Mythical Games announced the global launch of Pudgy Party, a mobile party game that’s now available on Android and iOS.

Pudgy Party draws comparisons to popular games like Fall Guys and Stumble Guys—colorful riffs on the battle royale genre in which players race through wild obstacle courses and persist through survival challenges.

And this time around, it has a Web3 twist.

“We took our own interpretation of that genre,” Mythical Games CEO John Linden told Decrypt. “We thought it was the right focus for not only the brand, but the gameplay—something the community can really get behind.”

In Pudgy Party, users will step into a game filled with Pudgy Penguins characters, which have made an impact across social media and via retail products like plush toys. And players will automatically enroll in Web3 gaming in the process, even if they don’t realize it.

“Every player that comes in, they’re automatically onboarded into a wallet,” Linden said.

“They have a wallet, but most of them won’t even know about it,” he said of the onboarding experience, which is designed to encourage “getting in and playing.” The game integrates blockchain via the Mythos Chain, a network built on the Polkadot blockchain, in the background.

“The Web3 stuff is kind of just seamlessly behind it,” he added, “You’re suddenly getting assets and you’re leveling them up, and you can change them and you can burn them for other things. All that’s fairly hidden from the user initially.”

Users will be able to collect outfits, emotes, and other in-game assets, as well as costumes that can be minted as NFTs and later traded via the marketplace.

The game will launch with its first seasonal event, “Dopameme Rush,” a brainrot-themed event featuring popular internet memes. Seasons will run monthly and come with free and premium passes, as well as special events and leaderboard competitions.

After taking a once-declining brand to the shelves of Walmart and Target, Pudgy Penguins CEO Luca Netz has set the bar high for the upcoming game launch.

“It has to have, at a minimum, tens of millions of players and downloads,” he told Decrypt. “My hope is we can actually push and make this a top app on the App Store, period.”

Netz expects that Pudgy Party will make a massive push beyond the crypto bubble, and become the first Pudgy franchise product.

“I think you’re going to see some of the world’s biggest streamers streaming Pudgy Party. I think you’re going to see epic IRL events, huge campaigns, and tournaments and prize pools to bring people in,” he said, adding that thinks it will be the “biggest Web3 game that we’ve ever had.”

Mythical Games has already built some of Web3’s most prominent games with its FIFA Rivals and NFL Rivals, which have collectively amassed millions of mobile downloads. It hopes to build something similar with the Pudgy Penguins.

“We’re after building a forever franchise with Luca,” Linden said. “We want to help them take this into the gaming world and have something that can be around and played by literally hundreds of millions of people over a period of time.”

In use cases such as mortgage lending or margin trading, USDG can help users optimize capital while earning passive income at the same time. Importantly, there are no additional fees for earning, and no upper limit on deposits. Users can earn based on whatever amount they hold, with returns scaling accordingly.

That said, OKX notes that some jurisdictions may restrict or not offer this feature due to local regulations.

How to start earning with OKX’s USDG feature

To participate, users must transfer USDG to their OKX account and maintain a balance of at least 1 USDG in either a funding or trading account. Earnings begin automatically from the day after deposit, and there’s no need to manually subscribe.

Per the exchange, rewards are calculated using this formula: “Profit = lowest value of 24-hour snapshot per day × APR ÷ 365.”

While OKX hasn’t disclosed a fixed APR, the rate is dynamically adjusted based on supply and demand in lending markets, and typically reflects simple annualized returns, excluding compounding.

U.S. trading app Webull launched crypto services for Australian users on Wednesday, offering access to hundreds of different digital assets in a move experts say will force local exchanges to slash fees or risk losing customers.

The launch through Coinbase Prime adds Australia as Webull’s third crypto market, alongside the U.S. and Brazil, with the company promising a 30-basis-point spread, according to a statement.

Industry experts predict the entry will trigger competitive pressure across Australia’s crypto exchange market, where fees have remained stubbornly high compared to international markets.

Pratik Kala, head of research and portfolio manager at Apollo Crypto, told Decrypt that “Australian exchanges have much higher fees and spreads compared to our international peers; in some cases, more than double the spread even for liquid pairs like Bitcoin and Ethereum.”

“Australian exchanges list a small fraction of coins—Webull’s entry with 240 coins will expand overall options for Australians,” he said, with competition expected to “expand overall options for Australians.”

Webull announced Monday that it resumed crypto trading in the U.S. after suspending services in 2023 during its public listing process, part of what CEO Anthony Denier called a “full-throttle” global expansion into digital assets.

James Volpe, founding director of uCubed, told Decrypt that Webull faces “entrenched competition from established players in Australia who will work hard to defend their market share.”

“Competition in such a young market tends to create competitive fee structures and additional service features for users,” he added.

He said new entrants “raise the bar for incumbents,” pushing more competitive fees and better user experiences, but cautioned that “the key” for investors is understanding risks tied to custody and centralized platforms.

“The greatest challenge,” he said, “is the shift toward non-custodial and decentralized technologies, giving users control over their identity, custody of assets, and lowering trading costs.”

Despite such hurdles, he acknowledged “while the institutional backing and infrastructure via Coinbase may provide an edge, success here depends on building trust and demonstrating value in an increasingly sophisticated market.”

Webull supports trading through individual accounts, SMSFs, trusts, and company structures, positioning crypto as part of traditional investment frameworks with 24/7 customer support.

Volpe said this may boost crypto’s role in wealth management, but “true integration” hinges on “education, regulation, and investor confidence.”
