Kanye West Said Memecoins ‘Prey On Fans.’ Then He Apparently Launched One

by admin August 22, 2025

Kanye West, the hip-hop artist who goes by Ye, appears to have launched his own cryptocurrency, YZY, sparking a riot of trading activity.

In February, West rejected the idea that he might launch a crypto coin. “I’M NOT DOING A COIN,” he wrote, in a since-deleted post on X. “COINS PREY ON THE FANS WITH HYPE.” He seems to have changed his mind.

On Wednesday evening, West’s X account announced the YZY coin in two posts. “The official Yeezy token just dropped,” said West, in a strangely deadpan video clip that some X users speculated was AI-generated.

As traders piled in, the coin’s paper value surged to $3 billion, then plummeted by two-thirds in the span of three hours as early investors cashed out. Since the start of trading, investors have placed more than $740 million worth of trades. The majority of traders have recorded losses, collectively losing more than $20 million, says blockchain analytics company Nansen.

Winner of more than 20 Grammy Awards, West has become increasingly unmoored and erratic in his behavior in recent years. Most infamously, West made a series of antisemitic remarks in 2022 that drew widespread condemnation and led Adidas to abandon a lucrative partnership with his design label. In May, he released a music video entitled “Heil Hitler.”

The YZY coin is supposedly part of a grander constellation of products called YZY Money, which also purports to include a crypto payments service and debit card. “YZY Money is a concept to put you in control, free from centralized authority,” the website claims.

According to the website, 20 percent of the YZY supply has been released, 10 percent has been pooled on exchanges to allow for smooth trading, while the remaining 70 percent is held by Yeezy Investments LLC. The company cannot gain access to those coins for at least three months, a common practice meant to prevent issuers from dumping their holdings and sinking the price of a coin.

It is unclear who controls Yeezy Investments, which is registered in Delaware and therefore not required to disclose its ownership structure. Yeezy Investments operates the YZY Money website under a licence granted by Ox Paha Inc., a company through which West manages his intellectual property, the terms and conditions state.

Typically, rookie crypto traders are warned away from coins whose supply is concentrated in the hands of a small number of parties, for fear they might sell off their holdings en masse, driving down the price of the coin.

“You have to consider longer down the line,” says Nicolai Søndergaard, research analyst at Nansen. “Let’s say all tokens unlock in two years, you might not want to be in a token at that point. You could fairly assume there would be a sell-off.”

Patterns in the trading activity in the minutes after the YZY coin announcement have led to further questions about the integrity of the launch.

10 years after it launched, one of the best roguelikes of all time gets a surprise update on Steam with quality of life improvements and a new controls menu

by admin June 25, 2025

It was 2015—10 years ago—that we called Nuclear Throne “a crowning achievement for Vlambeer, and one of the finest action-roguelikes ever made” in our 90% review. Seven years later, in 2022, we said it was still the best roguelike around. And now, in 2025, eight years after its last update, Nuclear Throne has suddenly sprung back to life.

“Good news for (future) Nuclear Throne fans: there’s an updated beta build on Steam with many quality of life improvements like 120fps support, different aspect ratios, and a new controls menu!” Vlambeer wrote in a surprise announcement on Bluesky. “Oh, and a new melting loading screen tip. 😎

Vlambeer celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2020 by closing its doors, not over any discord between co-founders Rami Ismail and Jan Nijman, but simply because it felt like the “natural” thing to do at that point in their careers. Four years later, however, it was back, although without Ismail, who sold his half of the studio to Nijman. And Nijman has apparently decided to go back to where it all began.

The studio said in a separate post that it would “be nice” to get the new update out to console versions of Nuclear Throne, but it wants to “make sure everything is rock solid on PC first.”

To give the new Steam beta a shot, you’ll need to right-click on Nuclear Throne in your Steam library, then select “Properties,” “Betas,” and “openbeta_win64” from the dropdown. Wait for the game to update, and then “enjoy your silky smooth gaming.”

A huge medieval town with a castle

In this new medieval city builder that launched on Steam today, build a sprawling town with the help of companions who level up and train their own apprentices

by admin May 22, 2025

There’s a familiar start to City Tales: Medieval Era, a new city builder that launched on Steam today. You’ve got a few citizens that need housing and food and work, so you place a wood cutter’s camp near the trees, a gathering station near a berry patch, and a hunter’s cabin in the woods: stuff any city builder player has done plenty of times before.

But there are also some interesting twists on the city building formula. You don’t build homes for your citizens, you draw districts. Click on the map to create borders around the district, and your citizens will handle the rest: dividing up the district into plots and deciding where their houses go themselves. You can add other buildings to a district: a well, a market, a weaver’s shop, a lumber mill, but again, you don’t choose their precise location. Your wee little villagers handle that.

I like that approach. There’s something to be said for city builders where you’re 100% in charge and decide where every last structure is placed, but I also enjoy giving my citizens a bit of agency. It also tends to make a city feel like it’s growing organically.

Something else fun in City Tales: Medieval Era is the six named companions (you can choose their names if you wish) that you begin the game with. When you build a production quarry like a sawmill or a rock quarry, you assign one of these companions to run it. While they work and generate resources, they’ll level up, getting better at their jobs.

If you’re thinking, “Wait, I’m going to have way more than six production buildings, won’t I run out of available companions?” Don’t worry, because your companions are awesome. While they’re working and leveling up, they’re also training apprentices to take over for them. Once an apprentice is ready, you can assign your companion to another building, or keep them where they are to continue leveling up that skill until they’re a specialist.

Companions will even request certain jobs, from time to time. Judith, who I had working away making planks in my lumber mill, approached me to ask if she could work on the cattle farm I was planning to build. She’d prefer if it were a sheep farm, which made sense—Judith’s bio mentioned that she had a loyal sheep dog—but at the very least it sounded like she was more interested in farming than churning out planks all day.

This is a really nice touch: instead of parking randomized faceless NPCs into production buildings and forgetting about them for the rest of the game, it feels more like you have real people working to make your town successful, improving their skills, training other citizens, and even asking you for a choice of the jobs they do.

I’m not too far along in my own town yet, but I’m enjoying the organic approach to building and seeing my little companions grow their skills in City Tales: Medieval Era. It launched into early access on Steam today and is 10% off for the next two weeks.

First XRP Futures ETF to Be Launched by Volatility Shares

by admin May 21, 2025

  • First 1x XRP futures ETF sees debut
  • Spot XRP ETF next

Renowned investment company Volatility Shares will be launching the first-ever XRP futures ETF on May 22, according to a recent X post shared by Eric Balchunas, a senior ETF analyst at Bloomberg.

This big move, which marks the first of its kind in the crypto industry, will see Volatility Shares offer XRP-based investment products.

VolatilityShares is launching the first-ever XRP futures ETF tomorrow, ticker $XRPI.. yes there is a 2x XRP already on market (this is first 1x) and it has $120m aum and trades $35m/day. Good signal that there will be demand for this one. pic.twitter.com/rCooyNZgu0

First 1x XRP futures ETF sees debut

The launch of this investment product, which is scheduled for May 22, comes amid growing institutional demand for XRP futures, just 2 days after their initial launch on CME.

Apparently, the groundbreaking launch of XRP futures on CME has paved the way for major adoptions like this, providing institutional investors with the opportunity to securely leverage XRP futures contracts.

While this major development has sparked speculation across the broader crypto market, it is already seeing adoption among institutions, positioning the third-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization for a sustainable bullish momentum.

According to Balchunas, the fund will trade under the ticker XRPI, representing part of the Volatility Shares Trust fund.

This big move from Volatility Shares comes barely a month after Tectrium launched its XRP-based investment product, Tectrium 2x Long Daily XRP ETF.

In his post, Balchunas acknowledged the existence of this 2x Long Daily XRP ETF, an initiative that focuses on providing returns that double the daily gains projected by XRP in the market.

However, Balchunas emphasized that the proposed XRP futures launch from Volatility Shares is the first 1x XRP futures ETF, propelling XRP toward mainstream adoption.

While the Tectrium 2x Long Daily XRP ETF already boasts $120 million in assets and a massive $35 million daily trading volume, Balchunas is confident that it will boost investor confidence, thereby fueling demand for the 1x XRP futures ETF.

Notably, Volatility Shares’ decision to launch an XRP futures ETF will see the firm providing its investors with returns based on XRP market gains.

Spot XRP ETF next

While the U.S. SEC’s decision on the proposed spot XRP ETF has not yet been disclosed, market participants and experts are confident that the launch of the spot XRP ETF is fast approaching.

The major developments within the Ripple ecosystem in recent days position the digital asset for more institutional demand.

As such, there are speculators who believe that these developments may be the stepping stones the spot XRP ETF needs to achieve SEC approval.
