Hollow Knight: Silksong launch breaks global game storefronts

by admin September 5, 2025

Today’s (September 4) release of Hollow Knight: Silksong crashed global stores right across Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam’s digital platforms.

As fans clamored to purchase and download Team Cherry’s highly anticipated follow-up to the indie smash Hollow Knight, players found themselves unable to complete their purchases or even load the game’s page on online stores.

Nintendo ended up having to briefly take its store offline completely, whilst attempts to purchase the game on Steam triggered “something went wrong” error messages, and players on PlayStation were struggling to find the game on the PSN Store at all.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers similarly struggled to download the sequel via either their apps or the Xbox console.

Team Cherry’s solo adventure is already one of the biggest games of all time according to SteamDB, securing a spot in the Top 20 biggest Steam games ever by concurrent count — a record likely to be repeatedly smashed as we go into the weekend.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is Steam’s most wishlisted game of 2025, appearing on 4.8m wishlists.

Among other things, Credentials modifies an existing transaction type, adds a new field to several existing transaction types, adds a new type of ledger entry, modifies an existing type of ledger entry and also allows lookup of Credential entries.

In the past week, three amendments, fixAMMv1_3, fixEnforceNFTokenTrustlineV2 and fixPayChanCancelAfter, were activated on the XRP Ledger mainnet.

XRP up 400%

According to CoinGecko data, XRP is up 400% on a one-year basis. In terms of percentage gain, XRP surpasses that of lead cryptocurrencies Bitcoin and Ethereum, which posted yearly returns of 88% and 73%, respectively.

Shift Up to expand Stellar Blade franchise after successful launch across multiple platforms

by admin September 3, 2025

Shift Up has announced in a recent financial report that it intends to expand the Stellar Blade franchise with “various derivative works”.

The financial report (which can be read here though is entirely in Korean) dives into the success of its different products including Stellar Blade in the section titled “Main Products and Services”. There, the company highlights the game’s stellar (zing) performance both at launch and with its port to PC.

The report states (via machine translation): “Through this, [Stellar Blade] was able to effectively secure a new user base and further strengthen its position as a global AAA franchise IP. We plan to develop various derivative works to expand the [Stellar Blade] IP so that [Stellar Blade] can establish itself as a well-made IP.”

Here’s the launch trailer for Stellar Blade.Watch on YouTube

This should not be a massive surprise for two major reasons. The first being that Stellar Blade has proven exceptionally successful for Shift Up, especially when you consider it was an original work for the studio. The game sold over a million copies on PC within three days of the Steam version going live, after all.

Secondly, Shift Up previously stated its intention to make a Stellar Blade 2 back in May, courtesy of an investor presentation. So true Stellar Blade fanatics have further evidence of something to look forward to. If you want a tinfoil hat angle to this bit of news, it’s interesting to note this most recent financial report makes note of a general intent to make “derivative works”, rather than solely stating a sequel. Though, that’s pure speculation.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.

Etherex price gains 40% amid Linea rewards program launch

Etherex price gains 40% amid Linea rewards program launch

by admin September 3, 2025

Etherex price surged after Linea launched a major rewards program designed to pump liquidity across its ecosystem.

Summary

  • Etherex price rose 41% to $0.585 after a new Linea rewards program launch.
  • Daily trading volume climbed 82% to $3.89M; TVL topped $200M.
  • Risks include October LINEA unlocks and yield dilution from rising TVL.

In the past day, Etherex has increased 41% to $0.5794, briefly reaching an all-time high of $0.585. The rally came after Linea’s new liquidity rewards program went live on Sep. 2, 2025.

Linea Ignition boosts Etherex

The initiative, called Linea Ignition, will run for two months and distribute 1 billion LINEA tokens to liquidity providers across leading decentralized finance protocols. Among them, Etherex, a MetaDEX built directly on Linea’s zkEVM Layer 2, has emerged as the biggest winner.

Developed in collaboration with Linea, ConsenSys, and Nile Exchange, Etherex functions as the network’s main liquidity hub. It powers major trading pools such as USDC/ETH, WBTC/ETH, and REX/ETH.

Market activity spiked in response. Etherex’s daily trading volume rose 82% to $3.89 million, while its market cap grew to $57.7 million with a fully diluted valuation of $206.8 million. The protocol now secures more than $200 million in total value locked, making it the largest on Linea.

The program’s design has been a key driver. Ignition has created a feedback loop by linking rewards to market volatility and layering REX bonuses. Increased liquidity lowers slippage, which attracts more trading volume and raises incentives for token holders.

Investor confidence and REX price risks

With ConsenSys-linked wallets consistently increasing their REX holdings, trust in the project’s alignment with Linea’s long-term goals has grown. Social media traders referred to Etherex as a “whale magnet,” pointing to its fee decay mechanism, x(3,3) token dynamics, and fair emissions model.

But there are still some risks. While rising TVL may gradually reduce yields for liquidity providers, selling pressure may be triggered by the planned Oct. 27 unlock of vested LINEA tokens.

For now, however, Etherex’s deep integration with Linea has solidified its role at the center of the chain’s DeFi activity. The project seems well-positioned to continue its momentum into the last quarter, with Ignition already underway and features like Native Yield integration in the works.

The Crew is set to spring back to life as fan-made server emulator project prepares to launch later this month

by admin September 3, 2025

The Crew, the Ubisoft street racing game that met an unfortunate end in 2024, may live again. The Crew Unlimited, a fan-made effort to revive the game through a “custom server emulator,” says the work is just about complete and will be ready to launch on September 15.

The server emulator is now “feature complete,” according to a message on the newly launched Crew Unlimited website (via RPS) states. “All that is left to do is to thoroughly test and validate the software, then prepare the release.”

“A lot of our time and effort has been put into the project, and it’s finally coming to fruition,” project lead whammy4 wrote. “We are as excited as you are. Thank you all for your patience, understanding and support.”

Related articles

The project is a reaction to Ubisoft’s 2024 decision to close The Crew’s servers, rendering the game unplayable as of April 1, 2024. Making matters worse, Ubisoft began revoking game licenses shortly after the servers went offline, a big step beyond simply delisting a game that seemed intended to make double-extra-sure that nobody would be able to play the game again in the future. The Crew Unlimited project member ChemicalFlood said at the time that the team was “deeply saddened by Ubisoft’s choice to start revoking licences to this game when people have paid hard-earned cash for it,” but added that the project would be able to bypass that restriction without having to modify any game files, “so the project is still on track.”

The Crew Unlimited will be available for download from the TCU website, but The Crew itself will not: You’ll need to own the game if you want to play, although the dev team noted in an FAQ that “as long as you manage to run the game files, we have absolutely no way to tell a legit copy from a non-legit one, so we just have to let you in.”

The emulator will currently only work with PC versions of the game, but the TCU team says it might be possible to implement console support in the future. Mod support will be wide open in offline modes, but only cosmetic mods will be allowed when playing online.

The bigger question hanging over all of this is how Ubisoft will respond. Projects like these tend to attract the attention of lawyers, typically followed by cease-and-desist letters, but The Crew Unlimited is in something of a unique position: Ubisoft has taken a brutal ass-beating for its handling of The Crew’s shutdown, including a lawsuit and a European Citizen’s Initiative petition that attracted more than one million signatures. The backlash was strong enough that Ubisoft promised not to do it again with The Crew 2 and Motorfest, and dropping the hammer on a project like this would almost certainly stoke those fires all over again. That’s about the last thing Ubisoft needs right now.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

It’s possible that a deal has been worked out: In the “Special Thanks” section of its website, The Crew Unlimited team throws a credit to Ubisoft, “for letting this game happen.” I’ve reached out to the team to ask about the possibility of a Ubisoft-mandated C&D and will update if I receive a reply.

WLFI crypto holders targeted by phishing attacks at scale post launch

WLFI crypto holders targeted by phishing attacks at scale post launch

by admin September 2, 2025

Experts warn that scammers are specifically targeting the hype around Trump’s WLFI token.

Summary

  • Scammers are deploying phishing attacks at scale, exploiting the hype around WLFI
  • Phishing attacks weaponize Ethereum’s new functionality, enabling wallets to act as smart contracts
  • Ethereum’s EIP-7702 enables users to sign multiple complex transactions at once

The launch of World Liberty Financial (WLFI) cryptocurrency, linked to U.S. President Donald Trump, resulted in unprecedented hype. With volumes rivaling many of the biggest crypto projects, scammers were prepared to exploit the situation.

Shortly after the launch on Sept. 1, Yu Xian, founder of the blockchain security firm SlowMist, reported phishing attacks at scale. He explained that attackers are using new functionality built into Ethereum wallets introduced with Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade.

SlowMist’s Yu Xian on one case of WLFI EIP‑7702 “delegate” scam | Source: X

According to Yu Xian, the EIP-7702 “delegate” function enables external accounts to act like smart contract wallets. While this improves functionality, it also enables attackers to hijack the delegate mechanism if they compromise the private key.

How scammers target WLFI holders

The EIP-7702 “delegate” scam works as follows. The attackers first exploit a private key via phishing. Then, they embed a malicious delegate smart contract in the wallet. At that point, once a victim makes any transaction, the malicious code executes, draining the victim’s tokens.

The main reason attackers opt for the delegate scam is scale. Traditional phishing requires attackers to monitor and manually drain wallets. With delegate contracts, they can set parameters that auto-execute transactions, for instance to receive WLFI tokens via airdrop.

This is not the only type of scam that targets WLFI holders. For instance, attackers also try to trick users into buying fake WLFI tokens. In one case, attackers targeted one user who had bought WLFI tokens. They then airdropped honeypot WLFI tokens until the user accidentally bought a fake token on Phantom Swap. The victim lost $4,876 to the scheme.

Delays to escape the shadow of a launch like Silksong are about way more than just day 1 players: ‘Every game has to fight and use whatever edge they’ve got available to stay visible’

by admin September 2, 2025

The number of games that have scurried away from Silksong’s surprise September 4 launch date in the past week have given it the air of a mini GTA 6: an event seemingly so all-consuming that no game stands a chance of competing. But what does competing mean, exactly, when the game in question is a 2D platformer sequel with a cult-like following?

Of the delayed games, you can easily see why 2D adventure RPG Faeland would be sweating; same with metroidvania sequel Aeterna Lucis. But what about the games that are less obviously aimed at the same exact players? Shouldn’t they be fine even if Silksong’s a mega hit, considering there are more PC gamers than ever?

“You can go to the likes of GameDiscoverCo and look at data for past high-performing titles with similar release dates until your corneas crumple to try and discern the material effects of ‘audience overlap,'” says Brian Kwek, the head of Demonschool’s indie publisher Ysbryd Games. On Monday, Kwek was the one who posted that “after much anguished consideration,” Demonschool was being delayed to November 19 to give it a better shot at success. He elaborated on that decision-making process for PC Gamer to explain how much rides on getting a release date right beyond where players will dedicate their time first.

Related articles

“With Demonschool and Silksong both being multi-platform simultaneous releases, we have to consider more than ‘just’ the Steam algorithm, so this ultimately requires us to consider the impact of Silksong on the console gamer audience and how they’re hearing about games like Demonschool through broader coverage from content creators and press,” Kwek says. Streamers are a key avenue for indie games like Demonschool to get noticed, and as with other Ysbryd published games like World of Horror, it’s more likely to be noticed by “variety” streamers who bounce between games rather than focusing on a particular genre or live service titan.

“Unless said creator is known to be a fiend for Shin Megami Tensei or tactics games, we would directly have to compete against Silksong for those creators’ time and attention,” Kwek says. “Ultimately, at least for the first week of Silksong’s release, we think a good majority of creators/streamers and press are going to feel incentivized to meet the demand for Silksong discourse. Even if it’s just a week, that’s a week that Demonschool—or any game still holding on to the September 3/4 release date—would have been cut off from building their own critical mass of discourse about their own game. I think that can be fatal in this saturated market, where every game has to fight and use whatever edge they’ve got available to stay visible.”

Ysbryd and Demonschool developer Necrosoft Games’ choice of September 3 was based on careful consideration of more than just competing games: it followed the news deluge of Gamescom and PAX West in late August, but predated an extremely busy October that includes the remastered Final Fantasy Tactics, a Steam Next Fest and loads of spooky stuff timed to Halloween.

Despite Steam Next Fest being a prime opportunity for developers to get eyeballs on their upcoming games, it can be “a black hole of visibility for game launches,” Kwek says, “that is maybe almost as deadly (if not more deadly) than launching next to Silksong.”

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

Publishers like Ysbryd know that delays come with their own downsides, though, including disappointing or angering players who had their expectations upended; those reactions make him feel “miserable.” There’s also a load of stress that comes with reaching out to partners like PlayStation, Nintendo and Xbox to see if a last-minute delay is even feasible.

“I’ve spent the last week with my guts twisted up in anxiety when seeing notes from gatekeepers who were one step from telling us ‘no, the release date change actually can’t be done due to policy X,'” he says.

“Of course, marketing plans and activations have to be delayed; if you’ve arranged for streams from content creators who’ve blocked time for you, those all have to be rearranged on their schedules. As I mentioned in our public statement, review keys had gone out to press and creators, who all have to agree to reorganize their time with the game and when to file their stories and video coverage. This delay is a massive inconvenience for nearly everyone involved (and probably took a couple years off my life in the process); if we didn’t see value in pursuing it, we’d have just stayed put!”

Any time a game with a previously announced release date is delayed, you can bet a similar degree of hand-wringing went into the decision, says Adam Lieb, the founder and CEO of game marketing platform Gamesight.

“When I see backlash, I’m like—[the studio] sat in a room and sweated about this for two weeks,” he says. “This is a really important decision, could be the difference between success and failure, and oftentimes it’s a really expensive decision. I think that’s one thing that often isn’t considered by, like, Reddit: You build a game to launch on a certain date, and build to how much it costs to make that game. When I delay a game a month, I have to pay that entire team a whole extra month with zero revenue coming in the door. That’s really fucking expensive.”

And the bigger the game, the costlier the move: triple-A games that buy TV commercial slots or billboards in advance have to pay a fee to move those ads or even forfeit the money altogether.

But there is one more layer to the release-date-delay-decisionmaking dance, and that’s the potential benefit from launching in the afterglow of a big, eyeball-drawing launch.

(Image credit: Sandfall Interactive / Kepler Interactive)

“It’s a pretty well-known phenomenon that when the biggest games of the year launch on Steam everyone makes more money,” Lieb says. “There are just more people on Steam in that window; that’s eyeballs on your stuff, on all the algorithmic ranking pages, people in the desktop app, which can lead to more sales.”

To use a crude blast zone analogy, once you’re outside the ‘ground zero’ radius of a game like Silksong landing, a game going after the same target audience could stand to benefit from its impact.

“You’re getting people who are in the mood for this one thing… when Oblivion [Remastered] came out and Expedition 33 came out, you could say ‘Oblivion’s so huge, nobody’s going to play this other game’—I played them both basically at the same time,” he says. “Oblivion definitely is what got me in an RPG mood, and I stayed in that RPG mood. … Sometimes the competition helps you.”

Launching a game at just the right time seems like it’s about as easy as landing a space shuttle in a driveway while wearing oven mitts. Even when you do your best to plan ahead, there’s always a chance things will go comically wrong. Ysbryd and Necrosoft actually did try to account for the possibility of a Silksong surprise launch at Gamescom or a release date announcement, but figured the latter would be at least a month out.

“In this situation, it’s impossible to know what the ‘right’ answer is,” he says. “I just pray that we are able to do our best to get eyes onto Demonschool with the audiences who’ll dig it!”

Gavin Newsom Wants to Launch a Meme Coin Just to Troll Trump

by admin September 1, 2025

In brief

  • California governor Gavin Newsom has been trolling President Donald Trump in an ongoing campaign.
  • In his latest idea to poke fun at the crypto-friendly president, Newsom said he will release his own meme coin.
  • Democrats have criticized President Trump’s crypto ventures, particularly his meme coin, Official Trump.

California governor Gavin Newsom has said he will release his own meme coin in the Democratic politician’s latest dig at President Donald Trump.

Newsom said Friday on the Pivot with Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway podcast that he’d step up his campaign to mock President Trump by releasing “Trump Corruption Coin.”

The California governor joked that the upcoming cryptocurrency would do better than the digital token President Trump released in January, the Solana-based cryptocurrency that trades as Official Trump.

“We’re about to put a meme coin out and you know what, Donald Trump? We’ll see how well your coin does versus our coin,” Newsom said.

He added that “Trump Corruption Coin” would be the best name for the asset. Turning serious, Newsom then said: “This is one of the great grifters of our time,” referring to President Trump. “This is just jaw-dropping.”

Newsom has been mocking the U.S. president by posting on X in Trump’s signature style, and copying his language and famous phrases.

Decrypt was unable to reach Gavin Newsom’s office.

President Trump ahead of his January inauguration released Official Trump—or TRUMP—a meme coin that runs on the Solana network.

The token shot up in value before quickly crashing—as meme coins tend to do—and Democrats have since criticized the commander-in-chief for cashing in on this and various other crypto ventures.

TRUMP is the 77th biggest cryptocurrency with a market cap of nearly $1.7 billion. It was recently trading for $8.42, according to CoinGecko, well below the all-time high of $73.43 it hit following its January debut.

Meme coins are cryptocurrencies based on Internet culture, often celebrities or online jokes. They are known for their extreme volatility and relatively short shelf lives.

President Trump campaigned to help the cryptocurrency industry, promising to ease regulations as president, create a national Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and going so far as to say all future Bitcoin would be mined by U.S. companies. He received significant backing from the industry during his campaign as a result.

But opposition politicians have said the president is lining his pockets with his crypto ventures, and have criticized Trump for his apparent conflicts of interest.

On Monday, a crypto project backed by President Trump, his sons, and the White House’s special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, debuted its token on major exchanges.

WLFI, which is the governance token of Ethereum-based World Liberty Financial, gave the project a valuation of over $26 billion following its debut on exchanges like Coinbase and Kraken. The Trump family owns a significant portion of the WLFI token supply, their share valued today at nearly $6 billion.

Now Playing: Pokemon Legends Z-A – The Biggest Pokemon Shake Up In Decades!

The announcement was made shortly after the reveal of a brand-new Mega Evolution for Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Fittingly, the Pokemon getting the power-up in the game is Hawlucha, a Luchador-themed Pokemon with unique high-flying moves in its arsenal. Hawlucha’s Mega Evolution doubles down on its wrestling inspiration, giving it ornate plumage and making it look ready for a main event match at the next Wrestlemania.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A launches on October 16 for Switch 2 and Switch, and the previous Mega Evolution reveal was done in a manner that makes a strong case for a Pokemon horror movie. The game also changes up the usual turn-based gameplay format by introducing real-time battles and free-for-all showdowns that up to four players can participate in.
