Kingdom Hearts 4, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 are making “great progress”, confirms director

by admin September 7, 2025

Square Enix director Tetsuya Nomura still doesn’t have any specific Kingdom Hearts 4 news for us just yet, but he wants you to know that the teams are making “great progress” on both the Kingdom Hearts sequel and Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3.

Other than a sneak peek back in May, we haven’t seen or heard anything since Kingdom Hearts 4 was shown back in 2022 for the series’ 20th anniversary, which is likely why Nomura joked in a recent livestream about seeing “a lot of comments” from fans eager to know more about the game.

“I’m seeing a lot of comments asking about Kingdom Hearts 4,” Nomura said, as translated by Aitaikimochi (thanks, TheGamer). “We are making great strides and going according to schedule. So please wait for more information on that!”

Admittedly, that doesn’t give us much to go on, but it should be a relief to fans to know everything is “going according to schedule”. And as for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3?

“[Motomu] Toriyama supposedly said we will have news around the time of the second anniversary of FF7EC,” he added. “We are making great progress on the game! And I can’t say anything else. I’m not gonna be like, ‘Well, actually…’ If I did, people would be really surprised if it’s during this FF7EC livestream.

“But we are indeed making a lot of progress with the game. We already have decided when we will make the announcement as well, and we will stick to that time schedule. So don’t worry, but please wait for it.”

Square Enix finally released fresh screenshots of Kingdom Hearts 4 back in May, giving us our first look at the game in three years. Before then, the last time the game was shown was back in 2022 for the series’ 20th anniversary, in which we were treated to Sora’s return and the expansive metropolis of Quadratum.

The day before those new screenshots, Square Enix cancelled mobile game Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link.

Tetsuya Nomura Has Good News About Kingdom Hearts 4

by admin September 5, 2025

Many, many RPG fans are patiently awaiting the next installment in the Kingdom Hearts franchise. And a lot of those people are waiting for Final Fantasy VII Remake‘s third and final installment, too. As you might expect, some are worried about how development is proceeding on these two massive Square Enix RPGs, and to help calm those players down, FF7 and KH4 director Tetsuya Nomura has attempted to reassure us all that things are going “smoothly.”

As reported by Gematsu, during Friday’s Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis 2nd Anniversary broadcast, Nomura hopped in toward the end after seemingly spotting comments in the chat asking about FF7 Remake’s third installment. While he didn’t have a release date to share, he wanted everyone to relax. The game is on schedule, okay?

“Right, so, looking at the comments, I’m seeing people ask every so often about the third entry in the [FF7] Remake series,” said Nomura. “Apparently, [FF7 co-director Motomu] Toriyama mentioned in an interview that something might be released around the second anniversary [of Ever Crisis]. So that’s probably where those expectations are coming from. Right, so things are progressing really smoothly. I can’t really say more—if I suddenly went, ‘Well, actually…,’ everyone would be really surprised!”

He then added: “So yeah, things are moving along really smoothly, and the release timing has already been decided. We’re moving forward according to that schedule right now, so please rest assured and be patient.”

And don’t worry, fans of Kingdom Hearts, Nomura also had a small update about the Disney RPG, which was first announced back in 2022.

“And this has also come up in the comments here and there, but Kingdom Hearts IV is likewise steadily moving forward according to schedule, so please look forward to it.”

While this is good to hear, I imagine a lot of folks want a release window for one or both of these RPGs. FF7 Remake’s third entry will be its last, as confirmed by Square Enix in 2022. We still don’t know when it’s coming, what it will be named, and what platforms it will launch on, though I expect PS5 players will be able to play it day one. Meanwhile, we’ve heard very little about Kingdom Hearts 4, though we did get a new, very low-res screenshot earlier this year of Mickey Mouse in a library. Hopefully, that and Nomura’s assurance that everything is progressing as planned will be enough for folks until the next update.

Darkest Dungeon 2 is free this weekend on Steam as horrible mosquito folk swarm the Kingdom

by admin August 30, 2025

Red Hook have just released the third and final part of Darkest Dungeon 2’s Kingdoms mode – a boardgame-style add-on experience that sees you moving a stagecoach around a map’s worth of benighted inns, fending off pigmen, witches and – as of this update – giant mosquitos.

To celebrate, they’ve also made the base roguelike RPG free on Steam until September 1st. Admittedly, being offered Darkest Dungeon 2 for free is a bit like somebody warmly offering to give you the plague. But this is the fun kind of plague, a plague rich in dicey turn-based battles, grindy but engrossing character development, and suppurating vistas of cthulhoid swampfields.

Watch on YouTube

I think that, on balance, I prefer the first Darkest Dungeon’s cliffside ambience and town/dungeon format. I find the older side-scrolling dungeons less fussy than the second game’s branching 3D road systems, and I think the original game’s handling of sanity and darkness is expressed more compellingly through the layered dungeon soundtrack. Here is what Joe Donnelly thought about it in 2016: “You’ll cry. And cry and cry and cry. But I think you’ll love it.”

I think the second game’s combat system is superior, though – it boils off some of the numberfluff and introduces a more readable system of HUD tokens, while retaining the same, diabolical relationship between party member positioning and skill availability. Laena Hafer summarised the game thusly in our 2023 Darkest Dungeon 2 review: “A roguelite sequel that takes a few steps forward and one or two back from the original, but keeps the gloomy but intense spirit alive.”

If you’ve played neither, both are fine, gruelling RPGs with amazing narration and glorious visuals cut straight from the pages of Hellboy. Kingdoms brings back a little of the first game’s feel, married to the second game’s wagoneering, but is pretty much its own thing. You must defend inns as they come under siege, while travelling about to gather party members and complete a central questline before the map is swamped by nasties. Speaking of which, here’s what they’re adding in the third major Kingdoms update Curse of the Court, which is available now:

Swarms of Bloodsuckers have descended upon the Kingdom, bringing with them a supernatural contagion that can inflict your heroes with the dreaded Crimson Curse! Players will be challenged in an all-new questline to find a cure for this rapidly spreading infection and exterminate The Bloodsuckers before time runs out! Additionally, this release features new achievements to earn, and three new Kingdoms maps, each with a different layout that presents a unique set of challenges. These new maps are playable on any of the three different Kingdoms modules.

If you come down with a severe case of Dankest Sturgeon 2 this weekend, take comfort in the knowledge that they’re running a discount alongside the free timed promotion – 63% off, or more if you buy a bundle with all the DLC. Read more on Steam.

Crypto Industry Urges National Stablecoin Plan For The United Kingdom To Compete With US

by admin August 21, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

In a recent open letter to Finance Minister Rachel Reeves, figures from the cryptocurrency industry are calling for the United Kingdom (UK) to develop a national stablecoin strategy, seen as essential for positioning the UK at the forefront of the digital asset landscape.

This comes after the US positioned itself to capitalize on the growing adoption of digital assets through pro-crypto legislation, fulfilling President Donald Trump’s mission to establish the country as the crypto capital of the world.

UK’s Crypto Sector At Risk?

The letter, which garnered support from 30 industry players, emphasizes the need for a proactive and coordinated approach to dollar-pegged cryptocurrencies. It argues that they should not be viewed merely as potential risks but as integral components of a financial infrastructure that can be responsibly embraced.

The letter highlights that the United Kingdom must act swiftly to ensure it remains competitive with countries like the United States, which have taken significant steps to integrate stablecoins into their financial systems with the passage of the GENIUS Act.

Industry players have voiced concerns regarding the UK’s current regulatory stance on stablecoins, suggesting that it places the nation’s crypto sector at a disadvantage.

One of the primary issues is the legal classification of stablecoins as “crypto-assets with reference to fiat currency.” Critics argue that this definition focuses too much on the form rather than the function of stablecoins, likening it to defining a cheque solely as paper that references currency.

The establishment of a national stablecoin strategy could enhance the UK’s status as a global financial center, they assert, and generate new revenue streams, particularly in fees and foreign exchange, while also supporting demand for government bonds.

The Key To Unlocking Stablecoin Potential

The letter received endorsements from executives and firms such as crypto exchange Coinbase, Kraken, Copper, Fireblocks, BitGo, and asset manager and crypto exchange-traded fund (ETF) issuer VanEck.

Daragh Maher, HSBC’s head of digital assets research, has highlighted the potential of stablecoins to bridge the gap between traditional finance and the digital asset world.

He described them as the cash equivalent of digital assets, serving as a foundational currency for almost all crypto transactions. Maher also pointed out that stablecoins can facilitate money transfers using blockchain technology, offering a modern alternative for the UK financial system.

Despite their potential, regulatory hurdles remain a significant barrier to the widespread adoption of stablecoins. Maher emphasized that creating a suitable regulatory environment is crucial for unlocking the full potential of stablecoins in the UK.

The daily chart shows the total crypto market cap valuation at $3.81 trillion. Source: TOTAL on TradingView.com

You can build 136 million different houses in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s new DLC, if you really must

by admin August 21, 2025

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s forthcoming Legacy of the Forge expansion introduces a new home customisation system, as part of a story about restoring a legendary burnt-down blacksmith’s joint where your dad once worked as an apprentice.

Out September 9th, the expansion takes Henry of Skalitz back to Kuttenberg to climb the ranks of the blacksmith guild, with unique armour and weapon blueprints. Expect “quirky” requests from clients, but above all, expect a nagging sense of failure, because the aforesaid customisation system “supports over 136 million combinations”, and always, always at the back of your mind, the creeping suspicion that yours is the very worst.

Do I sound needlessly weary? I’m sorry, I just hate when PRs do the “XX million possible combinations thing” (obligatory disclosure: I’ve probably enthusiastically written up such promises in the past). I can poke myself in the face 136 million ways while eating dinner, Warhorse – that doesn’t mean I care to do so. Nobody needs a million different versions of anything, not even the Pokemon Company.

Also, I confidently predict based on gruelling experience and the below trailer that 120 million of those combinations will be indistinguishable. It’ll be a case of moving mead cups fractionally sideways on tables to drive the chatbox crazy, you mark my words. When they release this DLC, somebody (not me) should try to make all 136 million possible houses out of spite. Then we can turn Kingdom: Come Deliverance 2 into a giant game of spot-the-difference. Or perhaps an absolutely terrible medieval version of Blue Prince.

Watch on YouTube

The overabundance of house variations is more relatable when you consider that finding a safe place to sleep, rest and eat your vittles is one of Deliverance 2’s earlier challenges. There may indeed be 136 million places in pre-industrial Bohemia where it would be unsafe to sleep, even if the game permitted it.

When not building houses and fighting the sense that there are 135 million, nine hundred and ninety-nine thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine ways you could have done it better, you’ll spend the new DLC venturing “down memory lane”, seeking after friends of your dead father and uncovering a part of his life “that has remained hidden – until now.” Perhaps your dad was secretly the 15th century equivalent of Dorothy Draper.

You’ll forge new friendships alongside fancy swords, and explore the effects of different home furnishings on your abilities. It’s probably good fun, on the whole. I did quite enjoy the base game, on balance. Still, stop threatening me with large numbers, Deep Silver, I am a person of culture.
