Bitcoin Holds Ground as Fed’s Waller Calls for July Rate Cut

by admin June 21, 2025

In brief

  • Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller argued that the Fed should cut rates in July before the labor market “tanks.”
  • The Fed held interest rates steady on Wednesday for a fourth consecutive month.
  • Fed Chair Powell noted that economic uncertainty, amid Trump’s trade war, remains elevated, but that the haze has “diminished.”

The price of Bitcoin was little changed on Friday as U.S. Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller argued that the U.S. central bank could start lowering interest rates as early as July.

Bitcoin was recently changing hands at $104,300, flat over the past day and down 0.6% since Israel and Iran began exchanging missile attacks a week ago, according to crypto data provider CoinGecko. Ethereum was flat over the past 24 hours to trade just around $2,500, while Solana ticked up slightly.

With inflation running cooler-than-expected in recent months, Waller argued that the central bank has a green light to begin lowering borrowing costs, despite U.S. Donald Trump’s tariffs, which economists fear could lead to slower economic growth and higher costs for consumers—and Middle East tensions that could fuel higher energy prices.

“I think we’re in the position that we could do this as early as July,” he said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box. “That would be my view, whether the committee would go along with it or not.”

Waller’s comments follow the Fed’s decision to hold rates steady on Wednesday for a fourth meeting in a row, adhering to a wait-and-see approach adopted under Trump’s term. During the conference, Fed Chair Jerome Powell noted that economic uncertainty for the U.S. remains elevated, but has “diminished,” amid twists and turns in the president’s trade policy.

Most policymakers at the Fed are penciling in two quarter-percentage-point rate cuts this year, economic projections released on Wednesday showed. At the same time, a greater number of governors estimated that the central bank would deliver no rate cuts this year, as their median estimates pointed to slightly higher inflation and slower economic growth.

Waller said that the bank should start cutting rates soon “because we don’t want to wait until the job market tanks before we start cutting the policy rate.”

Many economists feel the Fed is in a tough place, where any action will negatively affect progress on its dual mandate: cut rates too soon and inflation could take off again, hold rates elevated for too long and that could hamstring its goal of facilitating full U.S. employment.

“The Fed is caught in a holding pattern due to tariff uncertainty and is waiting for more information,” Grayscale’s Head of Research Zach Pandl told Decrypt. “Taking a step back, the Fed’s projections still point to easing ahead, despite higher expected inflation later this year.”

Fed futures traders penciled in a 14% chance on Friday that the bank would cut rates in July, a decrease from 28% a month ago, according to CME FedWatch. The central bank has held its benchmark rate at a target range of 4.25% to 4.5% since December.

Bitcoin boomed as the Fed lowered interest rates by a full percentage point last year. Although the central bank’s easing came amid the reelection of America’s first “crypto president,” lower interest rates tend to benefit risk assets like stocks and crypto by freeing up liquidity.

The president himself has clashed with the Fed’s reluctance to ease borrowing costs amid his trade war, while also pursuing an immigration crackdown. Prior to the Fed’s decision on Wednesday, the president called Powell “stupid.”

Fed May Cut Rates in July, How will it Impact Bitcoin and Crypto

by admin June 20, 2025

In a major move, Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller just gave crypto investors a big reason to watch July closely. He said the Fed could lower interest rates as soon as next month, during the July 29–30 meeting.

In the recent interview, Waller said, “We could do this as early as July. I think we’ve got room to bring it down, and then we can kind of see what happens with inflation.” This statement has come after the Fed’s recent decision to keep rates steady between 4.25% and 4.50%, but with hints that two cuts might still come before the end of 2025.

Impact of Fed Rate Cut on Bitcoin and Crypto

The main thing is, when the interest rates drop, it becomes cheaper to borrow and easier to invest. So as a result, people are eager to invest their money flows into Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other risky assets. Higher interest rates often scare invertos wavy from crypto.

As Dan Raju, CEO of Tradier, put it, “High interest rates scare investors away from riskier investments like crypto, and the lowering of rates will be seen as a positive by the crypto investor community.”

In the past, crypto has shown how it became sensitive related to the Fed policy. In 2022, when the Federal Reserve raised rates aggressively from near 0% to 4.25–4.50% by year-end. As a result, Bitcoin and altcoin dropped sharply.

In 2023 and 2024, the Fed paused rate hikes, keeping them steady in the 4.25–4.50% range. This stability gave crypto room to recover. Bitcoin rebounded, and investor confidence began returning. There are two more factors which have fueled the crypto to recover: the launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs and the election of Donald Trump, seen as a crypto-friendly president.

Key Events to Watch in July

The crypto investors should watch the next big meeting of the Federal Reserve for July, as this can have a big impact for the crypto. If the Fed decides to cut interest rates, it could act as a powerful catalyst for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and the broader crypto market.

Additionally, the U.S. Bitcoin ETFs have pulled in more than $9 billion, led by BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT)  in the last few weeks. On May 22 alone, Bitcoin ETFs saw an impressive $432 million inflow. With Bitcoin ETFs still attracting strong inflows, a rate cut could help BTC test or even break past its all-time high of $111,970.

However, if the Fed keeps rates steady, crypto markets may stall or correct, especially if inflation remains sticky or if economic uncertainty grows.

The spiritual sequel to the Pebble smartwatch is on track to ship in July

by admin June 13, 2025

Eric Migicovsky, the creator of Pebble who’s reviving the e-paper smartwatch with a new company called Core Devices, shared that the first new smartwatches are coming next month. The Core 2 Duo watch is on track to ship to pre-order customers in July and the pricier Core Time 2 is still on track to launch this year.

The $149 Core 2 Duo is “near mass production” according to Migicovsky, and should land in the hands of all pre-order customers during July or August. If you pre-ordered, you’ll be able to confirm your order and shipping details later in June. Migicovsky says he’s also aiming to have “working engineering samples” of the $225 Core Time 2 “within the next month.”

Both the Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2 carry over the basic functionality of Migicovsky’s original Pebble smartwatch, using either black and white or color e-paper displays, with health tracking, access to notifications and the ability to use the back catalog of classic Pebble watch faces and apps. The major difference between the two watches is that the Core Time 2 has a slightly larger screen, a metal frame and a built-in heart rate monitor.

Core Devices is also opening up a beta program to test early watch hardware and its new Android and iOS companion app for syncing notifications and watch faces. You can sign-up to join the beta test via a Google Form and interestingly, Migicovsky writes that the new app will also be compatible with older Pebble hardware like the Pebble Time Steel and Round or the Pebble 2.

Ghostly Cycling Adventure Wheel World Crosses The Finish Line This July

by admin June 10, 2025

Wheel World is an upcoming open-world game in which players ride a bike possessed by ghosts on a quest to save the world. This quirky adventure comes from Nidhogg and Flywrench developer Messhof and has been floating around for some time, but as announced during the PC Gaming Show, it’s finally launching on July 23.

A new trailer shows off newly revealed locations that the protagonist Kat will traverse atop her bicycle. The game’s plot centers on Kat’s quest to save a universe on the brink of collapse with the aid of ancient cycling spirits. Doing so involves winning races and other cycling challenges against colorful characters while recovering legendary parts to perform a special world-saving ritual called The Great Shift. You can also customize Kat’s bike to tailor it towards your riding style and explore the colorful open world in search of secrets.

If you’re curious to try Wheel World, a Steam demo is available now. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S (launching day one on Game Pass), and PC.

Gorgeous stealth adventure Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream gets July release date and demo

by admin June 9, 2025

Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream – the stealth adventure that’s been eliciting all sorts of oohs and ahhs thanks to its lovely looks and impressive motion capture – finally has a release date. It’s coming to PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on 15th July, with a demo available now.

Eriksholm is the work of River End Games, a Swedish studio comprised of around 16 people (making its presentational pizzaz all the more impressive), and it takes its inspiration from the Scandinavia of the early 1900s. This isn’t quite the world as we know it – a mysterious illness known as Heartpox has the city in its grip, for starters – but it’s here we meet our protagonist, Hanna, who becomes embroiled in a deadly adventure after her brother disappears.

River End Games calls Eriksholm an “isometric, narrative-driven stealth game”, and it shares many of the trappings of the stealth-tactics genre – including sight cones, that isometric perspective, and multiple characters with complementary abilities you’ll use to navigate the city undetected. Based on my time with a couple of levels not so long ago, though, it appears to play a bit more puzzle-y, with obstacles having specific solutions.

It’s unclear if that’s indicative of the broader experience, but I’m certainly intrigued enough to want to play more. Not least because Eriksholm – with its endearing cast and gorgeous environmental design – is a lovely world to sink into.

And River End Games is now letting everyone have a nose around Eriksholm ahead of its launch, thanks to a newly released demo on Steam and the Epic Games Store. River End hasn’t specified what’s in the demo, but it’s promising a glimpse of Eriksholm’s “atmospheric design, tense stealth sequences, and emotionally driven narrative”. And you’ll be able to carry your progress over to the full game if you’re suitably convinced.

Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream launches for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on 15th July, and (depending on platform) it should cost around £33.50 GBP/€39.99/$39.99 USD.

Monument Valley 3 breaks free from Netflix on July 22

by admin June 8, 2025

Monument Valley 3 is finally coming to more platforms, after being a Netflix exclusive since December. The game will be released on July 22 for PC, Switch, PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Remember, Switch games are playable on Switch 2, so it should also technically be available on Nintendo’s new console.

Monument Valley 3 is considered a solid entry in the franchise, with plenty of fresh puzzles that play with perspective. You navigate a character through bizarre mazes and strangely-designed levels.

These games are partially inspired by artists like M.C. Escher, as the pathways don’t necessarily follow the laws of physics. It’s a whole lot of fun, and sort of plays like a more psychedelic version of the Switch exclusive Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

The third entry in the franchise brings in a new gameplay mechanic in the form of a sailboat that freely moves between sections. The vibes are top-tier, with gorgeous art and a great ambient soundtrack. We don’t have a price yet, as Monument Valley 3 was free with a Netflix subscription, but Monument Valley 2 ranged from $5 to $8 depending on the platform.

This news comes from today’s Wholesome Direct livestream, which happens during Summer Game Fest. The announcements are coming in fast and hot from SGF, so stay on top of things right here.

Mecha Break gets a July 1 release date reveal at Summer Game Fest

by admin June 7, 2025

Mecha Break has just got a release date revealed at Summer Game Fest! It’ll launch on July 1 on Steam and Xbox Series X|S.

This reveal came with a lengthy cinematic trailer in which a whole lot of robot action happened, some sad lad hanging out in a ruined city dropped a dog tag, and then hopped into his own mech to fly about and shoot lasers. It was pretty cool! You can watch the trailer below.

Watch the new Mecha Break trailer here!Watch on YouTube

Mecha Break proved exceptionally popular on Steam when it held an open beta test earlier this year, and it was great fun too. You can play standard PvP matches against an opposing team of mech pilots, or alternatively head into the battle royale Mashmak mode.

Sony wheels out Ghost of Yotei just to tease a dedicated State of Play for it in July

by admin June 5, 2025

When we first got confirmation of this week’s State of Play, Sony’s official description provided little to go on. PlayStation’s first-party output is quite slim this year, but some of us expected the company’s biggest game in 2025 – Ghost of Yotei – to make some sort of appearance.

After all, for a game coming out this October, we’ve seen very little gameplay to get us excited about its big release this fall.

The good news is that Ghost of Yotei, did, indeed show up during the State of Play showcase. It was so brief, however, you may have missed it. Developer Sucker Punch treated us to a small teaser that left everyone wanting more.

And more certainly is on the way, because the point of that teaser was to announce a special State of Play presentation dedicated entirely to the Ghost of Tsushima sequel. Sadly, we’ll have to wait until sometime in July for that.

The July showcase will offer an extended look at Yotei’s “evolved” gameplay mechanics, exploration, combat and more, according to the PlayStation Blog. Hopefully that episode is scheduled for early July, rather than later in the month.

Watch on YouTube

Ghost of Yotei arrives October 2 on PS5, and no doubt two or so years later on PC.
