Peloton increases fees and introduces new hardware including a $6,695 treadmill

by admin October 2, 2025

Peloton has been angling for a redemption arc ever since its status as a pandemic darling started faltering when the world reopened for business. It tried to steady the ship with a series of layoffs, a pivot to subscriptions, and a leadership shuffle. Now, Peloton’s hoping to kick off a new era with the Cross Training Series, a total refresh of its product lineup consisting of a new Bike, Bike Plus, Tread, Tread Plus, and Row Plus.

“The impetus behind the Cross Training series is, ‘Let’s just give people one place to do all the strength and cardio workouts in one spot,” says Nick Caldwell, Peloton’s chief product officer. “We now make that convenient, all in one.”

The Cross Training Series takes the swivel display from the original Bike Plus, enables it to spin 360 degrees, and spreads it across the entire product lineup. Meaning, a Peloton machine is no longer for cardio alone. In a smaller space, the display can swing out so you can do strength training or other types of exercises alongside running, cycling, or rowing. The new lineup also adds better audio, updated processors, and improved Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. The Bike and Bike Plus will also get a new, cushier seat — a feature that Caldwell says was hotly requested from the Peloton community.

This AI treadmill is $6,695.

The Plus models add even more upgrades. That includes a movement tracking camera so the device can provide form feedback, rep tracking, and suggested weights. The speakers now include a woofer, presumably so the bass drop hits harder in a class, and Peloton partnered with Sonos on the specs and tuning. The machines will also support an “Ok Peloton” voice command that will let members skip moves or pause classes. Meanwhile, the Bike Plus will get a dedicated phone tray that attaches to the handlebars.

The Plus models sort of feel like the company decided to squish the Guide — Peloton’s little-known strength training camera — into its exercise machines. When I suggest this to Caldwell, he says that was basically the feedback Peloton got on the original device. “People who got the Guide put it on their TV and actually used it. They love it. It’s one of our highest-rated products,” he says. “The problem is it having to be plugged into the TV all the time. People really wanted an integrated solution.”

Caldwell says Peloton has also refined some of the features that were first introduced on the Guide. The Plus models support form feedback across a wider range of exercises and the camera has been improved. The devices also have more storage, so they can run larger machine vision models.

This AI rower is $3,495.

Given all the upgrades, these machines won’t come cheap. The two Bikes are the most affordable at $1,695 for the base model and $2,695 for the Plus. It only gets more expensive from there. The Row Plus will cost $3,495, while the regular Tread will cost $3,295. The Tread Plus is a whopping $6,695. At a small New York City launch keynote, CEO Peter Stern also noted that Peloton’s subscription would also be increasing from $44 to $49 per month. Despite the hefty cost, the company’s diehard fans often cite the hardware as a key reason why they love the platform.

But Peloton isn’t pinning all its hopes on hardware alone. Stern declared that “AI has the potential to give humans superpowers” in the company’s Q3 earnings call, and now, it’s adding an AI-powered feature called Peloton IQ across its entire portfolio — as in, old and new machines alike.

I got see a brief demo of Peloton IQ in action, and as a hardcore AI fitness skeptic, I’m begrudgingly curious. The flashiest part of Peloton IQ is for strength training classes. On the new Plus machines, the camera enables Peloton IQ to give real-time feedback and form correction. I watched as a Peloton employee purposefully used bad form on overhead dumbbell presses. It then surfaced a tip to “avoid swinging your body for momentum.” After several poor reps, the AI then advised that employee try a lighter weight. Conversely, when a few lifts were done too quickly, the AI suggested trying heavier weights.

Much of this was reminiscent of the Guide, but more refined. My biggest gripe with the Guide was that it never gave you tips on how to correct poor form — this does. And, if you can’t look at the screen while, say, planking, the machines will give audio tips instead. These specific features require Peloton machines with the new camera, and at launch there’ll be 2,000 compatible classes and 50 programs.

You can manually open or close the camera for privacy. It is needed, however, for the form feedback, rep tracking, and suggested weights features.

More generally, Peloton IQ also gives insights based on your workout history, class performance, and any third-party wearable history you give Peloton access to from Apple Health, Garmin Connect, or Fitbit. You can set a goal (e.g., get stronger, lose weight, etc.), and the AI will generate a weekly workout schedule across different exercise types, experience level, and workout durations and frequency. When browsing classes, it also lets you know whether a given class may be “harder than your usual” or give recommendations or modifications to your goals based on how you perform in a given week. There’s also the option for Peloton IQ to generate workouts outside of classes, so that users can have a more customized program at their own pace.

When I bring up the lackluster AI fitness features currently on the market, Caldwell tells me, “When I got to Peloton and I looked around, I said, ‘Hey, if we’re going to do AI, we’re going to hire an actual AI team.” He said that while ChatGPT and Llama are part of Peloton IQ’s makeup, the rest is trained on years of Peloton class data and input from the company’s stable of instructors. That, and he actually did hire an in-house AI team to create the product. He insists that the goal isn’t to simply regurgitate information users already know.

“It’s not just that we’re updating your plan and swapping in classes. We’re looking at your activity and trying to teach you something about yourself at the same time, the same way a trainer would.”

1/3Peloton IQ adds effort estimates to classes while you’re browsing the library.

I got to see demos of insights for a fictional Peloton user. To my surprise, they weren’t complete garbage. In one, it noted that the user had spent two weeks performing chest presses at the same weight and suggested they try adding weight or increasing reps in their next workout. Solid advice. On the same screen, it also noted that adding a mid-week 20-minute yoga workout would better prepare them for scheduled strength workouts. This is the sort of actionable insight fitness tech companies always promise when they tack on AI, but we’ll have to see how well Peloton IQ holds up outside of a controlled demo.

Rounding out the updates, Peloton says it’s investing more heavily into wellness via new third-party partnerships. One partnership is with the Hospital for Special Surgery, an orthopedic hospital, for a collection of workouts to help prevent injuries such as runner’s knee and tennis elbow. The company is also partnering with Halle Berry’s Respin — a wellness community centering around menopause and perimenopause — to create an eight-week program that encourages symptom relief from those conditions. Peloton has also acquired Breathwrk, a wellness app that specializes in breathing exercises, and will make the app’s content available to its members.

It’s hard to say whether this is enough for Peloton to put its woes behind it. On the one hand, Peloton fans are relentlessly loyal. Many of the upgrades are direct responses to fan requests. On the other, $6,695 is a bonkers price for an AI treadmill, even if it’s the Ferrari of connected fitness equipment. AI fitness and health features have also yet to fully impress. Regardless, one thing is clear: Peloton is back to betting big on itself — and on its hardware.

Crypto AML Firm Notabene Introduces Compliance Platform for Stablecoin Payments

by admin September 30, 2025

Cryptocurrency anti-money laundering (AML) specialist Notabene has introduced Notabene Flow, a stablecoin payment platform designed for high-value business transactions.

Notabene, a firm focused on bringing compliance to crypto transactions, such as applying the so-called “Travel Rule,” said its platform adds features long absent from crypto rails in an emailed statement on Monday. These include payment authorization, invoicing and dispute resolution, to make stablecoin transfers viable.

Institutional firms such as Zodia Custody, Bitso and Borderless are among the initial adopters, looking to combine stablecoin speed with compliance standards familiar to traditional finance (TradFi).

There’s a lot happening around stablecoin payments at the moment, including the announcement this week that Swift, the long-established interbank messaging platform, will unveil its own blockchain-based stablecoin system for payments.

An obstacle to stablecoin payments is that most crypto transactions are “push-only,” leaving businesses without safeguards to reverse payments or block fraud, Notabene said. The firm’s new application introduces pull payments, recurring billing and standardized coordination between verified participants, backed by the company’s network of 2,000+ regulated entities.

The platform relies on the Transaction Authorization Protocol, an open standard that functions rather like a Swift-style messaging layer. Notabene partnered with the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF), a way of achieving entity verification anchored to the internationally recognized LEI standard, giving every participant a reliable foundation of counterparty trust.

“Cross-border B2B payments have always been slow, expensive, and complex,” Pelle Braendgaard, Notabene CEO said. “Stablecoins are the first real opportunity to change that, but these high-value payments need a trust framework to succeed at scale. Notabene Flow delivers that framework.”

Snapchat introduces a paid storage option for all the Memories hoarders out there

by admin September 28, 2025

Snap is imposing a new storage limit on Snapchat’s Memories feature, which has racked up impressive numbers since its introduction in 2016. According to Snap, users have saved more than one trillion Memories across its platform, and it’s now introducing “Memories Storage Plans” for users who exceed 5GB of Memories.

In a press release, Snap detailed that the introductory storage plan allows up to 100GB of storage for Memories for $1.99 a month. Snapchat+ subscribers, who pay $3.99 a month, will get up to 250GB of storage, while Snapchat’s highest-tier Platinum subscribers will get 5TB included with their $15.99 monthly cost.

Snap said that a “vast majority” of its Snapchat users won’t notice any changes since they’re far from hitting the 5GB limit. For users who hold onto thousands of Snaps, the company is now rolling out these storage plans. To ease the transition from unlimited storage to paid options, Snap will give anyone exceeding 5GB of Memories a year of temporary storage. These new storage subscriptions follow Snap’s latest paid option for its Lens+ subscription, which costs $9 a month.

Orderly Network Introduces Build-Your-Own Perp DEX Platform

by admin September 23, 2025

Decentralized exchange (DEX) infrastructure provider Orderly Network introduced a platform for users to launch their own perpetuals DEXs.

“Orderly One” allows a perp DEX to be built in a matter of minutes without requiring the writing of any lines of code, Orderly said on X on Tuesday.

The new service is aimed at decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), funds, trading communities and so on who wish to build a revenue stream through crypto trading without relying on a centralized entity.

Perpetual DEXs play a significant role in crypto trading, combining perpetual futures market to a decentralized, permissionless environment.

Unlike traditional spot DEXs that only allow token swaps, these platforms let users trade with leverage and short assets, a functionality previously dominated by centralized exchanges like Binance. They allow traders to maintain full self-custody of their funds, eliminating the risk of exchange hacks or insolvency. By operating on smart contracts, they offer a trustless and alternative to centralized platforms.

In theory, the ability for DAOs and trading communities to build their own perp DEXs takes the decentralization a step further: not only is the trading protocol decentralized but so is the entire user-facing experience and its governance.

Flare Network and Enosys Introduces First-ever XRP Backed Stablecoin

by admin September 20, 2025

In a recent development, Enosys has launched the first XRP-backed stablecoin on Flare Network, backed by Enosys Loans, a Collateralized Debt Position (CDP) protocol. Users will be able to lock FXRP, representation of XRP on Flare Network, into the protocol to mint stablecoin.

This will enable XRP holders to gain access to a decentralized stablecoin backed by their assets, enabling borrowing without selling, liquidity provision, and yield opportunities across DeFi.

In a recent X post, Flare announced that users can now mint a trustless, over-collateralized stablecoin using fXRP and wFLR collateral, and it will soon include stXRP. It is powered by a fork of Liquity v2, its stability pools and the Flare Time Series Oracle (FTSO), a custom oracle that aggregates price feeds from independent signal providers rather than centralized data sources.

According to their official statement, the main component of this development is Collateralized Debt Position (CDP), a protocol that allows users to mint a stablecoin against their collateral. This helps maintain stablecoin’s value at $1.

Furthermore, the stability pool covers risk in case of collateral shortfalls or liquidations. Users staking stablecoin in the stability pool earn yield via minting fees, interest, and liquidation rewards.

Stablecoin adoption on the rise

As the popularity of cryptocurrencies surges worldwide, stablecoins are seeing a drastic increase among both the retail and institutional users. A large share of stablecoin supply is currently used for various purposes like yield farming, staking, and trading.

XRP Ledger XLS-86 Amendment Introduces New Firewall Layer – What To Expect

by admin September 18, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is entering a new evolutionary phase with the introduction of the XLS-86 amendment, which brings a firewall layer directly at the protocol level. For years, crypto investors and institutions have raised concerns over scams and network vulnerabilities that erode confidence in blockchain technology. With this new amendment, XRPL is positioning itself as one of the most secure and institution-ready networks in the industry.

About The XRP Ledger XLS-86 Firewall Amendment

Crypto analyst Stedas recently outlined in a post on X social media how the XLS-86 amendment will function as a built-in security layer to shield XRPL users from common threats that plague decentralized ecosystems. Unlike optional tools or third-party protection measures, this firewall amendment integrates security at the protocol itself, making defenses automatic and seamless for users.

Stedas notes that the firewall will automatically warn users before they attempt to send funds to addresses flagged as risky, effectively preventing accidental transfers to scammers. A shared database across exchanges and wallets will reportedly serve as a coordinated defense, ensuring that malicious actors are blocked regardless of where they attempt to operate.

Additionally, the analyst emphasized that the system will employ Artificial Intelligence (AI) to detect phishing attempts and fake domains, thereby providing proactive safeguards to prevent users from falling victim to these scams. Most importantly, Stedas stated that the XLS-86 firewall protection is not reliant on manual oversight or individual awareness, as it is embedded into the XRP Ledger rules. That means every user benefits from an equal level of defense, reducing the burden of vigilance that has historically fallen on retail investors.

Analysts Call XRPL “BulletProof” With XLS-86

The broader crypto and XRP community’s positive reaction to the XLS-86 firewall amendment reflects just how transformative this new upgrade could be. In a recent X post, Market enthusiast Paul White Gold Eagle described the XRP Ledger as “bulletproof,” noting that the upcoming upgrade is not simply another incremental patch but a complete security overhaul.

According to his perspective, the firewall will stop authorized access, block malicious transactions, and prevent drain attacks—all major threats that have led to losses across other chains. By adding anti-scam protections at its core, XRPL addresses one of the crypto industry’s greatest vulnerabilities.

Gold Eagle noted that phishing and fraud have long undermined adoption, but XLS-86 introduces institutional-grade security that could open the door to banks, governments, and Fortune 500 corporations. He emphasized that this new firewall amendment is the type of infrastructure that Wall Street pays attention to, as no other chain currently offers protocol-level firewall defenses.

Other crypto community members echoed similar sentiments. ‘Chris_eth-’ on X stressed that XLS-86 features, such as automatic scan address flagging, coordinated forensics with exchanges and validators, and wallet warnings before risky payments, will collectively form a multi-layered shield for XRP users. Combined with recent fixes like the xrpl.js library compromise, this firewall amendment signals that the ecosystem is no longer tolerating security gaps.

Rimac introduces its take on solid-state batteries for electric vehicles

by admin September 9, 2025

Rimac Technology has unveiled a new battery pack platform for electric vehicles that uses only solid-state batteries. The company has been an EV supplier for notable car brands including Aston Martin and Koenigsegg, as well as making electric supercar Nevara. Rimac collaborated with ProLogium and Mitsubishi Chemical Group on the product, which it claims will offer a lighter, safer and more energy-dense EV battery. It introduced this tech, alongside new composite and hybrid battery EV developments, at the IAA Mobility 2025 event.

Solid-state batteries are being touted as an important new development for EVs. European R&D operation Imec released a study into this tech last year that backed claims that these batteries did indeed have the potential to improve efficiency while bringing down costs.

However, the commercial development of solid-state batteries has been slow going. Despite a flurry of partnerships several years ago, the targets for getting EVs fully powered by the tech onto the road may still be some time away. For instance, Nissan said it aims to have its first EV solely using solid-state batteries released by its 2028 fiscal year. Rimac didn’t offer even a rough timeline for when it might have its new battery tech available for customers.

Valve introduces age verification for UK Steam users

Valve introduces age verification for UK Steam users

by admin August 29, 2025

Valve now requires Steam users in the UK to verify their age in order to access mature content on the platform.

As reported by VGC, the age verification feature went into effect on August 29, 2025, in compliance with the UK Online Safety Act (OSA), and requires Steam users to “explicitly opt-in” if they wish to access Steam store pages for mature content games or their associated community hubs.

In a Steam Support blog post, Valve explained that this opt-in process requires users to verify their age by logging into their Steam account and adding a valid credit card to their account.

“If the process is successful, you can now choose to add previously unavailable mature content types on the Store Preferences page,” Valve said in the post.

According to Valve, the Steam account is then considered “age verified” for as long as the credit card is stored on it.

“In the UK, Ofcom is the independent regulator for online safety,” Valve explained in its post. “Ofcom’s guidance on the OSA states that one highly effective age assurance measure is credit card checks.

“This is because, in the UK, an individual must be at least 18 years of age to obtain a credit card, therefore credit card issuers are obliged to verify the age of an applicant before providing them with a credit card.

“Having the credit card stored as a payment method acts as an additional deterrent against circumventing age verification by sharing a single Steam user account among multiple persons.”

The UK Online Safety Act came into effect on July 25, 2025, and states that “services who have users in the UK need to be safe by design, and have a higher standard of protection for children than adults, whilst providing transparency and accountability in relation to those services.”

Video game companies are legally obliged to comply with these new laws, meaning Valve isn’t the only one having to implement age verification for its UK users.

In July, Microsoft began rolling out age verification to UK Xbox users. Age verification for UK Xbox users is currently optional, but starting early 2026, it will be required for those with adult accounts to access the platform’s full range of social features, including voice chat and messaging.

Microsoft introduces a pair of in-house AI models

by admin August 28, 2025

Microsoft is expanding its AI footprint with the release of two new models that its teams trained completely in-house. MAI-Voice-1 is the tech major’s first natural speech generation model, while MAI-1-preview is text-based and is the company’s first foundation model trained end-to-end. MAI-Voice-1 is currently being used in the Copilot Daily and Podcast features. Microsoft has made MAI-1-preview available for public tests on LMArena, and will begin previewing it in select Copilot situations in the coming weeks.

In an interview with Semafor, Microsoft AI division leader Mustafa Suleyman said the pair of models was developed with a focus on efficiency and cost-effectiveness. MAI-Voice-1 runs on a single GPU and MAI-1-preview was trained on about 15,000 Nvidia H-100 GPUs. For context, other models, such as xAI’s Grok, took more than 100,000 of those chips for training. “Increasingly, the art and craft of training models is selecting the perfect data and not wasting any of your flops on unnecessary tokens that didn’t actually teach your model very much,” Suleyman said.

Although it is being used to test the in-house models, Microsoft Copilot is primarily built on OpenAI’s GPT tech. The decision to build its own models, despite having sunk billion-dollar investments in the newer AI company, indicates that Microsoft wants to be an independent competitor in this space. While that could take time to reach parity with the companies that have emerged as forerunners in AI development, Suleyman told Semafor that Microsoft has “an enormous five-year roadmap that we’re investing in quarter after quarter.” With some concerns arising that AI could be facing a bubble-pop, Microsoft’s timeline will need to be aggressive to ensure taking the independent path is worthwhile.
