Interactive Brokers (IBKR) Leads $104M Zerohash Round, Pushing Crypto Firm to $1B Valuation

by admin September 23, 2025

ZeroHash, a crypto and stablecoin infrastructure provider, has raised $104 million in a Series D-2 round led by Interactive Brokers (IBKR), valuing the company at $1 billion.

The raise included new participation from Morgan Stanley (MS), Apollo-managed funds, SoFi (SOFI), Jump Crypto, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures, FTMO, IMC and Liberty City Ventures, alongside existing backers PEAK6, tastytrade, and Nyca Partners, the company said in a press release Tuesday.

The fresh capital brings ZeroHash’s total funding to $275 million and will fuel product expansion, talent growth, and its ambition to become “the AWS of on-chain infrastructure,” CEO and founder Edward Woodford said in the release.

The raise marks the first crypto and stablecoin investments for several big players, signaling growing demand from financial institutions to build on-chain solutions at scale.

Founded in 2017, Zerohash provides APIs and embeddable developer tools that enable financial institutions and fintechs to offer crypto, stablecoin and tokenization products.

Its platform already powers solutions for Interactive Brokers, Stripe, BlackRock’s BUIDL fund, Franklin Templeton and DraftKings, serving more than 5 million users across 190 countries.

The fundraising comes as demand for enterprise-grade crypto infrastructure grows, with more financial institutions seeking to offer tokenized assets, stablecoins and on-chain settlement at scale.

Void Interactive ends “relationship” with Ready or Not community manager over Charlie Kirk comments

by admin September 22, 2025

Ready or Not developer, Void Interactive, has ended its “relationship” with the game’s community manager, following comments they made about the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk in the tactical FPS’s official Discord server.

As reported by Kotaku, Ready or Not’s community manager, known as ‘Kaminsky’, was asked last week to add variations of “Charlie Kirk” to the server’s filtered words list.

In response, Kaminsky replied: “I just did Charlie. Funny you mention that because me and my roommate are literally just talking about him getting shot. All I have to say is: Nothing of value was lost.”

“Yeah but that’s not our official position,” replied a server moderator.

Following the post, multiple users on X posted screenshots of the exchange, calling for Void Interactive to take action over the comments.

On September 19, 2025, Void Interactive posted a statement from its official X account (and on Steam) addressing the comments and announcing it had “ended” its “relationship” with Kaminsky.

“We are aware of comments made by our community manager about a recent traffic event,” the statement reads. “These statements do not reflect our values or represent our company.”

“We have ended our relationship with this individual and reminded our team of the responsibility we all share when communicating on public platforms,” the post continued.

“Our focus remains on fostering a respectful and professional community around Ready or Not.”

When GamesIndustry.biz asked for further comment on this, including confirmation on whether Kaminsky was a full-time Void Interactive employee or volunteer, a spokesperson pointed us toward the Steam statement and said: “The team at Void Interactive would like to stand by the message they posted on the Steam Page.”

Last week, Sucker Punch Productions fired a senior artist on Ghost of Yotei over a joke she made about Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated during a speaking event on September 10, 2025.

UKIE launches Interactive Entertainment Scotland

by admin September 18, 2025

UKIE has launched Interactive Entertainment Scotland (IES), a new, dedicated Scottish body designed to “champion the country’s rapidly growing games sector.”

Announced on September 17, 2025, the IES will serve as the “primary voice” for Scottish game companies, working directly with the Scottish government and local stakeholders to advocate for policies that support the continued growth of the country’s game industry.

As part of UKIE, IES members will benefit from Scotland-specific expertise and access to the body’s full range of services and advocacy efforts.

“Scotland has always been a vital part of the UK’s games success story,” said Nick Poole, CEO of UKIE.

“The launch of Interactive Entertainment Scotland recognises the sector’s maturity and importance north of the border. IES will provide the focused, local representation that Scottish studios deserve while maintaining the collective strength that comes from being part of the UK’s broader games ecosystem.”

IES will focus on supporting business growth, attracting investment to Scotland, and developing talent pipelines through partnerships with universities and colleges.

“The formation of a dedicated trade body to champion and collaborate across Scotland’s globally renowned games sector is both timely and important,” said Scotland’s minister for business and employment, Richard Lochhead.

“As the birthplace of globally significant titles from Lemmings to Grand Theft Auto and home to companies involved in globally significant titles such as Minecraft, the games industry in Scotland has undergone meteoric growth.

“It now comprises of 130 computer game enterprises, compared to just 15 in 2010, while the number of people working in the industry has doubled from 1,045 in 2015 to 2,125 in 2023.

“I look forward to working closely with Interactive Entertainment Scotland to build even further on these remarkable achievements.”

Annapurna Interactive will reveal three new games in a showcase on September 23

by admin September 16, 2025

Annapurna Interactive is hosting a games showcase on September 23, 2025 at 8PM ET / 5PM PT to show off three of its upcoming games. The publisher says the “Annapurna Interactive Direct from Tokyo” will stream on YouTube and feature new games from Kyoto-based developer Marumittu Games, Iridium Studios and Yarn Owl. Annapurna Interactive held its previous games showcase this past February to show off games like Skin Deep and Wheel World.

Marumittu Games’ Annapurna project was initially detailed in 2023 when the publisher announced it was working with the studio. At the time, Marumittu said it was pulling from the work of journalist Rutger Bregman and Homo Deus author Yuval Noah Harari to make a game that’s “thinking about humanity in the future.” Developer Yarn Owl similarly teased its project a year earlier in 2022, saying that it was inspired by The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Annapurna Interactive hasn’t formally announced its partnership with Iridium Studios, but the developer does list its next game as “an unannounced RPG with an unannounced partner” on its website, which certainly sounds like it could be what Annapurna plans to show off at its showcase.

Despite what seems like a fairly normal past year of game releases, the future and long-term stability of Annapurna Interactive has been in question since the mass-resignation of the publisher’s staff in 2024. Since then, Annapurna Interactive has continued to announce and release games, while the publisher’s former staff spun up a new publisher to support in-development projects from Take-Two’s shuttered indie label, Private Division.

New indie publisher Gambit Digital to be led by former Kepler Interactive VP

by admin September 9, 2025

A former VP of publishing and marketing at Kepler Interactive is now the head of Gambit Digital, a new indie publisher based in Montreal.

Zac Antonaci left Kepler in February after around three and a half years at the London-based publisher, which was behind the recent hits Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Rematch.

Previously, Antonaci was director of publishing at Frontier Developments in Cambridge, UK, the maker of Planet Coaster and Jurassic World Evolution.

Zac Antonaci, CEO of Gambit Digital

Gambit Digital is part of Indie Asylum, an indie ecosystem in Montreal that brings together over 200 developers across 18 studios. The firm will be helping to publish a number of games produced by the collective.

The founding team of Gambit Digital includes a range of studio heads and industry veterans. Commercial director Chad Young was previously senior director of publishing at Frontier, while publishing director Kevin Chancey is general manager at the video game marketing agency Purple is Royal.

Chief operating officer Chris Chancey is president of the indie studio ManaVoid Entertainment, which was behind the non-violent RPG Rainbow Billy: The Curse of The Leviathan, and which recently released the rogue-like city builder Roots of Yggdrasil.

Similarly, Gambit’s chief commercial officer Kim Berthiaume is interactive creative director at ManaVoid, while chief strategy officer Pascal Nataf co-founded Affordance Studio, which was a previous finalist in the Canadian Best Places to Work Awards, along with Purple is Royal.

Chris Chancey, COO of Gambit Digital

Chris Chancey emphasised the close links between the publisher and the indie studios it represents. “Gambit Digital exists to tilt the playing field in favour of developers,” he said.

“We’re builders ourselves. We know what it means to take risks, to scale up, and to find the right partners. Gambit is here to give studios the choice, flexibility, and firepower to succeed – without losing sight of why we make games in the first place.”

Gambit is aiming to provide a range of services to suit the needs of different indie studios. Among the services offered is shadow publishing, where Gambit will provide publishing muscle behind the scenes, while allowing studios to remain the publisher of record.

Gambit will also provide more traditional investment and publishing, as well as console porting and publishing via an in-house team. In addition, Gambit offers ‘post-launch growth’, driving sales of already released titles by expanding to new regions and seeking new commercial opportunities.

“Publishing today has to be more than a transaction – it has to be a long-term partnership,” says Antonaci.

“At Gambit Digital, we’re focused on helping and working hand in hand with developers not just to launch their games, but to build sustainable long-term momentum.

“From porting to post-launch growth, our mission is to expand possibilities and give studios the tools and opportunities to thrive in an ever-changing global market.”

Developer IO Interactive on why Bond needs to "earn" his iconic theme music in 007: First Light
Game Reviews

Developer IO Interactive on why Bond needs to “earn” his iconic theme music in 007: First Light

by admin September 8, 2025

Getting your hands on an iconic and beloved entertainment property is surely a blessing and a curse. On one hand, you get the opportunity to mine the history of the franchise and its stories for your own gain, and get to leverage the interest of a dedicated congregation of existing fans. On the other hand… there’s a lot of expectation. People know this franchise. They know this character like a friend. They know how they want it.

This challenge isn’t just present in gameplay and the casting of Bond, but everywhere around the edges. There’s a ‘Bondian’ energy that absolutely must run through this game like lettering through a stick of seaside rock – and one of the departments most under the gun is surely IO Interactive’s audio department, who have to make sure gadgets and guns sound right but also manage one of the most iconic aspects of a 007 adventure: the soundtrack.

“60 years of Bond, there’s a lot of sonic iconography,” admits Dominic Vega, the audio and missions director on 007: First Light. We’re chatting briefly as part of an overarching tour of IO Interactive’s Copenhagen headquarters where I got to see a chunk of Bond’s latest adventure and chat to some of the developers bringing it to life. Much as with the rest of the game, the musical challenge is summarized in its fresh-faced, young version of MI6’s most famous agent. This is a young Bond, and he isn’t yet fully-formed as the super-spy we know. At the same time, an expectation is there: fans want to hear certain sounds and themes.

Or, to put it another way, this Bond has to “earn his themes,” Vega says. “Throughout the campaign he grows, and he’s earning his number – and he’s earning his themes.”

The result is a soundtrack and audio landscape with ambition, and in turn quite unlike anything that IO Interactive has produced before. The moody rumble of Hitman wouldn’t be appropriate here, and nor would the atmospheric face-slap of Kane & Lynch 2’s score. Something different is required – and on top of all that, the studio wants to create a soundtrack that is distinctly Bond but also differentiated from the audio signature of the cinematic Bonds.

For that task Vega’s team has turned to the British composer duo of Joe Henson and Alexis Smith – aka The Flight. This duo has quite a list of credits to their name, including a range of big-name game soundtracks. Specifically, you’ve probably heard their work in Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, Alien Isolation, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Odyssey.

“They’re a really great composer duo with some amazing credits and some amazing music,” says Vega. “They’re a perfect blend of the sort of orchestral mastery that is required for Bond while contributing something modern, something that players I think will attach on to as a fantastic foot forward for the 007 franchise.

“Their sound is somewhere between the orchestra and the synthetics, and so I think they signify as a group and a duo what we’re looking for in bringing a younger Bond who is discovering this world of MI6, this world of spycraft, espionage, and intrigue – and bringing all that to life.”

Across a few demos, one certainly gets the idea of the gamut of potential soundtrack options. Car chases and gun fights are an example of when First Light takes on a more linear nature, bringing with it a score that is more cinematic by design. In open-ended areas, however, the game needs to be ready to react; its score needs to morph and shape itself to game design that is open-ended enough that you might transition from schmoozing at a party to a brutal hand-to-hand combat scenario in seconds.

That’s a challenge not just for The Flight as composers, but also for the technical team at IO Interactive building the game. Dynamic music is now the norm in games, but the nature of the Bond franchise and its strong melodic identity means its dynamic music arguably needs to be more carefully stitched together, as Vega explains.

“The game is a lot about creative choice, and taking on opportunities in whatever way the player sees fit – and the music should cater to that perfectly, the audio director notes.

“Melody is incredibly hard to get right inside of games because of the interactivity of games, and in First Light we’ve insisted on completing our musical ideas. No matter if the player goes from combat to still really quickly, we need to get that musical motif to close. It’s really hard. And on a spreadsheet it doesn’t look great,” he adds, laughing. “But we find it’s really important.”

This ties into a lot of work done elsewhere to take IO’s technology as part of its Glacier engine and make it conform to the shape required for a Bond game.

“Typical combat music and design wasn’t going to cut it for us,” Vega says. “Music in the Bond universe is angular. It’s mixed meter. It’s off-time. It has space, it has oxygen. It has room for dialogue, and room for impact. We want to embrace that. We’ve refactored a lot of our technology to make sure that not only is it about the melodies, the motifs, and the feeling of being Bond – it’s also about how we assemble that for the player.”

You can expect as much nuance in the music as you’d get in a cinematic Bond effort. | Image credit: IO Interactive / MGM

Fans can expect plenty of classic Bond theme moments reflected in what Vega gleefully calls ‘needle drop’ moments – but the team has also been careful not to overdo it. There’s plenty of original themes, and within that philosophy of Bond ‘earning’ his iconic themes, it’ll only be when he really deserves it that one of John Barry’s most beloved melodies will cut through. The soundscape will also reflect Bond’s globetrotting – you’ll hear in-universe music appropriate to wherever he finds himself, including licensed tracks. Dialogue will also reflect where you are in terms of the use of language and the accents you’ll hear.

There are elements of the Bond sound that are indelible, however. The franchise has its roots in 1963’s film scoring, and in the big band swing vibes of Monty Norman’s seminal ‘James Bond Theme’, which in turn gave the legendary John Barry the template from which he created a truly unforgettable sound. That sound has to be present, Vega says, for both old fans and newcomers alike.

“We’re really proud of where we’ve taken it, but it’s something that… all roads point to Bond, to that iconic sound.

“We have an orchestral sound to our game, but this is a young Bond. This is a Bond that we’re trying to find the orchestra through the soundtrack. We want to be a Bond for a new gaming generation, and we want to present a fresh sound while never forgetting that this is a classic IP that the fans of Bond should feel really satisfied and welcomed in, but also that the new players can be introduced to this sonic iconography that kind of coincides with the the character’s experience.”

There’s an electronic element to the soundtrack that reflects the present day, but there’s a strong belief from Vega that the Bond experience isn’t one that’s synthesized – and the soundtrack needs to represent that.

Music affects the overall mood. | Image credit: IO Interactive / MGM

“We’re proud to present a musical genre that is increasingly disappearing from media,” he asserts. “I think that’s something that we take really seriously. I think six French Horns in a hall sounds amazing, and I want to make sure that players have that.

“Some of the best soundtracks I can think of, and if I was to ask a room of hardcore gamers what is your best soundtrack… almost all of them were from composers and people who wanted to show the audience music that is music, right?”

“But then lastly – gamers deserve to hear a swing band. I think a big brass group is awesome, it’s not something you hear every day, and I think when you’re playing Bond, you want it.”

It’s an ambitious musical project – which only makes sense for any composer following in the footsteps of the likes of John Barry and David Arnold, among others. But in all this music talk, there is one other Bond staple missing: what about a theme song? That question provokes the classic ‘not yet’ reaction. You can imagine it, I’m sure. PRs stiffen, and a bit of an awkward shuffle ripples through the room.

“We have some great music announcements to make along the road,” Vega tactfully offers. “We are obviously going for the complete Bond experience.”

This preview is based on a visit to IO Interactive’s HQ in Copenhagen. IOI provided travel and accommodation. I wrote this while listening to this excellent mixtape, for what it’s worth.

MindsEye launch “what we didn’t hope for”, says IO Interactive CEO, as publishing future in question

by admin September 7, 2025

IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak has commented on the disastrous launch of Build A Rocket Boy’s action game MindsEye back in June, stating it wasn’t what the company hoped for.

IOI provided assistance distributing the game through its IOI Partners publishing arm. Now, at a recent event for the company’s forthcoming Bond game, Abrak spoke to IGN about MindsEye’s launch.

“The initial talks we had with those guys were to support them,” said Abrak. “We thought they had some great ideas and a great world in the background that they were building, and hopefully they’ll get the opportunity to show more of that in the future. And we just wanted to help them distribute the game.”

MindsEye Review – Ridiculous, Inconsistent And Utterly AtrociousWatch on YouTube

“Well, that was definitely tough, right?,” Abrak continued, speaking of the launch itself. “It was a tough reception. It wasn’t what they hoped for, and also what we didn’t hope for at IOI Partners. They’re working hard on turning that around to regain the trust of the gamers out there, and they have tons of potential and content they’re working on. So hopefully they’ll succeed with that in the future.”

Ahead of the game’s release, the co-CEO of Build A Rocket Boy suggested negative reaction to MindsEye had been paid for in a “concerted effort” against the studio. At the time, Abrak stated: “I don’t believe that.”

Two studio execs departed the studio just one week before it debuted and then, once released, it was clear MindsEye was full of technical issues. The studio promised performance updates, but later a Hitman crossover mission was delayed by IO Interactive.

So, has the Hitman and Bond studio been too burned by its work with Build A Rocket Boy to continue with similar publishing work?

“So, IO Interactive will publish our own games internally,” said Abrak. “IOI Partners? That remains to be seen.”

MindsEye received a one star review from Eurogamer. “Although it shows some early promise, MindsEye is sunk by a ridiculous story, inconsistent writing, poorly designed mission scenarios, and utterly atrocious combat,” it reads.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.

Report: Take-Two Interactive Was In Talks To Save Xbox’s Canceled Perfect Dark Reboot

by admin September 2, 2025

Take-Two Interactive Software, the publisher behind Ken Levine’s next game Judas, Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto series, and the upcoming Borderlands 4, was in talks to save the recently canceled Perfect Dark reboot, according to a new report from Bloomberg. While Crystal Dynamics owner Embracer Group was close to striking this deal with Take-Two, negotiations ultimately failed, leading to last week’s layoffs at Crystal Dynamics.

Bloomberg writes that Embracer “had come close to striking a deal” with Take-Two to purchase the game from Xbox, which owned the rights, but that discussions collapsed “at least in part because the companies involved were unable to come to terms over long-term ownership of the Perfect Dark franchise,” according to its sources.

Unfortunately, with layoffs at Crystal Dynamics and these negotiations ending, it seems the Perfect Dark reboot is officially dead.

Xbox and The Initiative, a new studio formed specifically for this game, revealed this Perfect Dark reboot in 2020. We learned The Initiative was teaming up with Tomb Raider series developer Crystal Dynamics in 2021, and a long three years later, in 2024, we got our first look at Perfect Dark gameplay.

That 2024 gameplay showing was the last we saw or heard about Perfect Dark before it was canceled in July.
