Silent Hill f producer insists it is “an action horror game” and any comparisons to a soulslike are “disingenuous”

by admin August 24, 2025

Silent Hill series producer Motoi Okamoto has called comparisons of the upcoming Silent Hill f to soulslike games “disingenuous”, insisting “a lot of these things we actually pulled from classic Silent Hill titles”.

The comment comes as more and more footage emerges in the run-up to 25th September’s launch day. And while we already knew the combat would have a “heavier focus on melee and be more action-oriented compared to last year’s Silent Hill 2: Remake”, fans have expressed concern about how enemies react, degradable weapons, and “soulslike” boss encounters.

Now, in an interview with IGN, Okamoto – who has become a familiar face having worked on all of the games since the series was resurrected in 2022, including Silent Hill: The Short Message and Silent Hill 2: Remake – insists some of the things fans have seen in the videos “aren’t new and exclusive to soulslike games”.

“This is one of the things that we see – the term soulslike – being thrown around on the internet quite a bit,” Okamoto said. “And I think it’s a label that’s a little bit disingenuous. Modern players will see like, oh there’s a stamina meter, there’s a dodge, and they’re like, ‘Okay, it’s a soulslike’.

“But to be very honest, a lot of these things we actually pulled from classic Silent Hill titles. Look at Silent Hill 4 – there’s a charge meter for your attacks, kind of like our Focus meter. And even for Silent Hill 3 there’s a stamina meter. You see it later on.”

According to IGN’s interview, Okamoto “expressed a degree of frustration with the online dialogue surrounding the game”.

“These things aren’t new and exclusive to soulslike games,” he added. “They’ve been a part of action horror games for a very, very long time. If you have these things you’re labelled a soulslike. And we’d like to reiterate we are an action horror game, but we are not a soulslike.”

Silent Hill f was unveiled as part of Konami’s four-game series revival back in 2022, but it took until the middle of March 2025 to get an update. Now that Bloober Team’s superb Silent Hill 2 Remake is behind us, the publisher is turning its attention to this follow-up, a new mainline instalment set in 1960s Japan.

It’s being developed by Neobards Entertainment (which has previously served as a support studio for Capcom’s Resident Evil games), with creature and character design by Kera, a script by When They Cry writer Ryukishi07, and music from the series’ usual composer, Akira Yamaoka. It’s set to release on 25th September.

Red Dead Redemption star says he “possibly misled some people” but insists “exciting” news is still on the way

by admin June 21, 2025

Red Dead Redemption 2 actor said he “possibly misled some people” when he teased a Red Dead Redemption-related announcement was on the way.

Last week, John Marston himself – or, at least, the actor who brings him to life, Rob Wiethoff – was very excited indeed about an upcoming announcement, stressing that he was particularly excited as he livestreamed “this game”, the original Red Dead Redemption. His tease came just days after we heard another rumour that Red Dead Redemption 2 may be getting a next-gen update alongside a Nintendo Switch 2 port, and Roger Clark – who portrays Red Dead 2’s Arthur Morgan – backed up Wiethoff’s tease.

Now, however, Wiethoff has walked back his comments, reminding fans that he “do[es] not make announcements for Rockstar Games”, yet still insists he has something exciting to tell us.

“There’s one more thing I wanna say,” Wiethoff told his viewers on YouTube as he introduced a livestreamed gym buddy session on YouTube. “I don’t know how to say this exactly, I’ll just say the one thing, uh, that I need to say, and I think all of you recognise this and know this, anyway.

“I do have something I’m really excited about. I truly am. And I think you will be, too, I really do think so. But I possibly, uh, misled some people when I announced that I have something to announce that I can’t talk about right now. Just please recognise – and I know that you know this – but let me remind you, I guess: I do not make announcements for Rockstar Games. We all know that. I’m just reminding you. I do not make announcements for Rockstar Games. Rockstar Games makes announcements for Rockstar Games, and they don’t use me to do that. So please know that.

“And again, I still think that, uh, a lot of you are going to be really excited about this news. Absolutely. Also, I can’t share it with you yet. And I’m so sorry,” he finished. “But I truly am that excited. That’s all I’m gonna say about that right now.”

Shortly thereafter, fans noticed a main cast reunion was scheduled for the National Gaming Expo in Tampa, Florida, from 8th-10th August, leading some to think this could be the “announcement” he was excited about (thanks, Push Square). The line-up for that was announced several weeks back, though, which doesn’t quite track with Wiethoff’s timeline.

Whatever it is, the announcement has seemingly been delayed. Going by Wiethoff’s original tease, we should’ve finally found out by yesterday, 20th June. However, when asked by a fan today, 21st June, for an update, he replied: “It’s coming. Sorry for the delay. Ha! There are a lot of moving parts. We want to get this right. I think it will be clear why once we’re able to say what’s going on.

“I can assure you, I want to tell you as soon as possible. Ha! I love it. Let’s goooooooo!”

The Last of Us season two finale audience significantly lower than first season’s, but HBO insists it will “grow significantly”

by admin May 27, 2025

The Last of Us season two finale, which aired early on Monday morning here in the UK, welcomed 3.7 million cross-platform viewers in the US.

This figure is significantly lower than the season’s opening episode, which premiered with 5.3 million same-day US cross-platform viewers. To compare further, The Last of Us’ first season finale set an audience record of 8.2 million viewers on its debut.

However in a press release, HBO said it expects to see the second season finale’s audience “grow significantly” following the Memorial Day holiday weekend, which contributed to lower viewer numbers.

Additionally, the network states the second season of The Last of Us is now averaging close to 37 million global viewers per episode, with that number “growing”.

To give more context, following its debut in 2023, HBO said the first season of The Last of Us was averaging nearly 32 million cross-platform viewers per episode in the States. At this time, the company added The Last of Us was the most-watched show in the history of HBO Max in both Europe and Latin America.

Viewer numbers have continued to rise since season one’s release, and the show’s global audience now sits at more than 90 million.

The second season of The Last of Us picks up five years after the events of the season one finale, with Ellie and Joel – played by Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal – now living in Jackson. New cast members this season include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse and Catherine O’Hara as a new character for the show, Gail.

Prior to its season two premiere, The Last of Us was renewed for a third season. At this time, showrunner Craig Mazin said: “We approached season two with the goal of creating something we could be proud of. The end results have exceeded even our most ambitious goals, thanks to our continued collaboration with HBO and the impeccable work of our unparalleled cast and crew.”

Earlier this month, the showrunner confirmed The Last of Us TV team is working on a four season plan, stating there’s “no way” the show’s narrative can be wrapped up in only three seasons. As for its next outing, earlier this week The Last of Us’ cast and crew shared some insight into where the show will go during its third season.
