Discord customer service data breach leaks user info and scanned photo IDs

by admin October 3, 2025

One of Discord’s third-party customer service providers was compromised by an “unauthorized party,” the company says. The unauthorized party gained access to “information from a limited number of users who had contacted Discord through our Customer Support and/or Trust & Safety teams” and aimed to “extort a financial ransom from Discord.” The unauthorized party “did not gain access to Discord directly.”

Data potentially accessed by the hack includes things like names, usernames, emails, and the last four digits of credit card numbers. The unauthorized party also accessed a “small number” of images of government IDs from “users who had appealed an age determination.” Full credit card numbers and passwords were not impacted by the breach, Discord says.

The company is notifying impacted users now over email. If your ID might have been accessed, Discord will specify that. Discord also says it revoked the support provider’s access to Discord’s ticketing system, has notified data protection authorities, is working with law enforcement, and has reviewed “our threat detection systems and security controls for third-party support providers.”

Perfect Dark reboot leak: fresh info suggests studio saw gap in the market with Metal Gear Solid and Bond absent

by admin September 22, 2025

The now-cancelled Perfect Dark reboot had an “eco sci-fi” aesthetic, an Adrenaline System, and may have been released episodically.

That’s according to internal documentation from a former developer on the project at The Initiative shared with mp1st, revealing new artwork and gameplay details.

The document highlighted an opportunity to capitalise on the secret agent genre, due to the absence of Metal Gear Solid and James Bond 007 during development. Ironically enough, both franchises have since returned.

Perfect Dark – Gameplay Reveal – Xbox Games Showcase 2024Watch on YouTube

This may somewhat point to why Perfect Dark was ultimately cancelled – perhaps this reboot of the N64 classic from Rare wasn’t able to differentiate itself enough.

Still, this newly unearthed documentation – which dates back to a period close to the game’s cancellation this year – hints as to what players could have expected. The creative vision for the reboot aimed to reimagine the franchise while retaining the core DNA of the N64 original, with the HBO series Westworld providing inspiration for giving a classic property fresh themes and concepts.

While several systems are briefly mentioned, only the Adrenaline System is detailed. This would’ve been a resource regenerated over time to provide various abilities like healing and increasing damage dealt, as well as slowing time to aim with precision. Killing multiple enemies in quick succession would have extended this effect.

Until April of this year, the studio was working on a vertical slice (a playable proof-of-concept) that belonged to “Season 1”, suggesting the game would have been released episodically.

Perfect Dark was properly revealed at last year’s Xbox Games Showcase, with in-game footage of protagonist Joanna Dark exploring a futuristic Cairo (above). Later, reports suggested this gameplay was fake, though a designer on the game responded it was in-engine despite “some fake stuff in it”.

The new documentation includes further artwork for the game, including an alternate design for Joanna, as well as various futuristic environments to show off its “eco sci-fi” aesthetic.

Perfect Dark was cancelled back in July, following layoffs across Microsoft. Rare’s Everwild was also cancelled.

FBI Asks SafeMoon Victims for Info Amid Restitution Efforts

by admin September 18, 2025

In brief

  • A federal jury found Braden John Karony guilty of securities fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering in May.
  • The FBI has opened a victim questionnaire to identify SafeMoon investors who may qualify for restitution and services.
  • Observers say enforcement is catching up with DeFi, though restitution remains difficult in decentralized markets.

A federal jury’s conviction of SafeMoon CEO Braden John Karony on fraud and money-laundering charges has heightened U.S. scrutiny of token promoters, as the FBI seeks investors defrauded in the collapsed DeFi project.

Last week, the FBI opened a victim questionnaire, asking SafeMoon investors who lost money to submit information that could support restitution and help identify the full scope of the fraud.

Karony, 29, was found guilty in May after a two-week trial in Brooklyn, where prosecutors showed he and his co-founders siphoned more than $200 million from SafeMoon’s liquidity pools despite public claims the funds were locked and untouchable.

The FBI said responses to the new questionnaire will help agents identify SafeMoon investors as victims of federal crimes, a legal designation that can qualify them for restitution and services. The bureau affirmed that all information will remain confidential.

Observers say the case implies enforcement is catching up with DeFi projects while also showing the difficulty of measuring investor harm across global token markets.

“This conviction sends a clear message that liquidity-pool promises and tokenomics claims are still subject to the same fraud standards as traditional securities,” Lionel Iruk, senior advisor to Nav Markets and managing partner at Empire Legal, told Decrypt.

The SafeMoon case also establishes “that DeFi projects are not immune from enforcement simply because they utilize smart contracts or decentralised technology,” Iruk said.

Regulators will act when there is “clear control over investor funds,” a precedent Iruk notes should make founders more cautious about relying on “opacity or marketing hype” around liquidity pools in the pursuit of attracting investors.

Still, restitution is complicated by shifting token prices, limited records, and the difficulty of tracing diverted funds, Iruk said.

“Restitution in cases like this is complex. Valuation is the first challenge, where victims bought tokens at different prices and times, and in markets that are highly volatile. This situation makes it hard to establish what “fair value” restitution means,” he explained.

Another challenge is tracing misappropriated funds.

“Even if authorities seize funds, redistributing them fairly among thousands of retail holders is a logistical and legal hurdle,” Iruk said, adding that many investors “lack detailed records,” complicating eligibility and compensation.

The conviction sets a “critical precedent,” pushing token creators to use DeFi responsibly and design systems that safeguard investors by default, with “enhanced transparency and clarity” around tokenomics and smart contracts, Wesley Crook, CEO of blockchain engineering firm FP Block, told Decrypt.

Echoing Iruk’s concerns, Crook said achieving full resitution can be “formidable” owing to the “volatile, dispersed, and pseudonymous nature,” of decentralized finance which makes “retrospective solutions largely ineffective.”

Instead, Crook suggests the focus should be on designing systems “inherently resistant to manipulation,” such that these could “trustlessly safeguard investors through their structure, rather than depending on subjective action to uphold integrity.”

Paradox take “first step” in response to Bloodlines 2’s DLC clan backlash with PlayStation refunds, promise more info next week

by admin September 8, 2025

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 publisher Paradox have gotten the ball rolling on the “adjustments” they promised in response to the controversy over the game’s day-one paid DLC vampire clans.

As we’ve covered previously, the Toreador and Lasombra clans were originally revealed to be locked behind a purchase of either Bloodines’ £18.69/€21.99/$21.99 Shadows and Silk DLC pack, or the £74.99/€89.99/$89.99 premium edition that said DLC comes bundled with. Cue understandable unhappiness, and Paradox swiftly moving to declare they’d rejig some stuff before launch.

The first domino’s now fallen, and it’s refunds for PlayStation pre-orderers. “Anyone who pre-ordered the premium edition through the PlayStation Store will be contacted and refunded starting Monday, September 8th,” World of Darkness community developer DebbieElla announced on the Bloodlines 2 Discord. “You will be able to pre-order your premium edition copy again later, before the release on October 21st.”

The good news for us PC folks is that Paradox made clear this is just an “intentional first step” in their planned tweaks following the backlash. “We are working hard on the adjustments that we promised, and we will be able to tell you all the details on September 17th,” DebbieElla wrote. “Making significant changes like this involves many moving parts, and we want to make sure that we get it right with this change.”

So, a little longer to wait for info as to whether there’ll be changes to the DLC/editions and their pricing on PC. However, pulling existing pre-orders and then requesting folks make them again points towards a premium edition price drop being at least one of the measures Paradox are taking. Any change might make paying extra for the two clans a bit more palatable, but unless the premium edition’s brought down to match the price of the base game, dishing the DLC clans out at no extra cost, odds are the sour taste won’t come close to being washed away.

Paradox and Bloodlines developers The Chinese Room previously defended charging for Toreador and Lasombra vamps when our James asked them about the decision at Gamescom, citing the game’s changing scope.

“We have been expanding it from where we originally planned to land it, I think, constantly, and Paradox have been really good when we go, or when the clients go, or when Paradox go: ‘We should add a bit more here. Let’s push the date back.’ As you know, the date has pushed back, but that has been to fatten it out into something that we feel does land where the players want it,” Bloodlines 2 narrative director Ian Thomas said.

We’ll keep you in the loop as to what Paradox announce on the 17th, and keep on hoping that Bloodlines 2 will stop all this Sideshow Bob rake-stepping as it tries to position itself as a “spiritual successor” to Bloodlines.

Darksiders 4: Release Date Info, Story, Trailer, And Everything Else We Know

by admin September 6, 2025

Darksiders 4 was officially announced in 2025 during a showcase for developer THQ Nordic, and many longtime fans of the franchise are curious about its release date, story, and gameplay. The last time we saw the Darksiders franchise was in 2019 with the release of Darksiders Genesis, a prequel to the original trilogy. This game was met with positive reviews from critics and fans alike, but after radio silence from THQ Nordic for several years, many players thought it could be the last time we’d see the Four Horsemen in action.

Now, with Darksiders 4 confirmed, we finally get to see what THQ Nordic has been cooking up all of this time. We know the Four Horsemen are returning and picking up where they left off at the conclusion of the original Darksiders, but what else do we know about the fourth installment in the franchise? You can check out everything we know about Darksiders 4 in the guide below.

When will Darksiders 4 be released?

While we did get the reveal of Darksiders 4, THQ Nordic still has not given us a release date for the new action-RPG. Right now, the current release date is “to be announced,” and there’s no indication as to when an announcement is expected.

So, as of right now, we’re pretty much in the dark when it comes to a release date for Darksiders 4. It’s unclear how far along in development THQ Nordic is with the game, either, so we don’t have anything to go on at the time of writing.

Preorder Darksiders 4

As we don’t have a concrete release date for Darksiders 4, there’s currently no way to preorder the game on any of its available platforms (PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S). This also means we don’t know how much Darksiders 4 will cost. However, Darksiders has, in recent years, usually been priced under the industry standard for a new AAA game. For example, Darksiders III retailed for $40 at launch, and Darksiders Genesis came in at $30. THQ Nordic could take that same approach with Darksiders 4, which would put it at around $50-60, but it might also be a full-priced, $70 game.

All you can do right now is wishlist the game’s Standard Edition on PC via Steam. This gives you a notification when Darksiders 4 officially goes live for preorders.

Watch the Darksiders 4 teaser

If you want a small glimpse into what THQ Nordic has in store with Darksiders 4, you can watch the official teaser trailer for the action-RPG below.

Naturally, this is only a sneak peek at the game that confirms the return of the Four Horsemen. We’ll have to wait for a proper trailer to see exactly what Darksiders 4 will look like.

Darksiders 4 Platforms

Darksiders is coming to PC via Steam, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It’s currently unknown if THQ Nordic will attempt to port the game to other platforms, such as Nintendo Switch 2, in the future. For now, though, Darksiders 4 will launch for only the current-gen platforms.

Darksiders 4 Story, Setting, And Characters

As we only have a small teaser trailer to go off, we don’t know too much about the story of Darksiders 4. We do know that the game picks up at the conclusion of the original Darksiders, though, so the setting will still be the post-apocalyptic version of Earth that’s remained prevalent throughout the franchise’s life. The developers also said that the setting will take place over different realms within the post-apocalyptic landscape, and each realm has unique bosses, items, and visuals.

During the game, you’ll get to play as one of the Four Horsemen characters, who have become staples of the franchise. Death, Strife, Fury, and War are back in Darksiders 4, and you can choose which one to play as for a playthrough. Each of the Horsemen features different weapons, abilities, and playstyles, giving you more replayability options for second, third, and fourth playthroughs of the main story.

Aside from the Four Horsemen, we’re unsure of any additional characters in Darksiders 4. However, with the story starting from the end of the first game, it’s a safe bet that some characters from the original will make an appearance.

Darksiders 4 Gameplay And Multiplayer

While we await more details and showcases of Darksiders 4, the developers have given us an idea of how the game will play. Just like the other games in the series, the fourth installment is a third-person action-RPG that emphasizes combat, narrative storytelling, and exploration through a lore-rich world.

The combat in Darksiders 4 features up-close melee action and supernatural abilities that each of the characters possesses. These abilities can all likely be used in combat in some fashion, but other abilities could be more useful outside of engagements with enemies. In the case of Strife, we’ll also likely be able to use his guns. Building on the cooperative feature in Genesis, it’s also been confirmed that Darksiders 4 will support up to four people in cooperative play, with each controller one of the Four Horsemen.

THQ Nordic specifies “traversal and puzzle-solving” as key components to the game. Darksiders is no stranger to unique movement and puzzles across the post-apocalypse, but the early marketing seems to suggest those elements will play a larger role in Darksiders 4. Some characters might offer more traversal abilities than others, which could give them an edge while exploring the map, while other characters might have abilities that make them tankier in battle.

We still don’t know a large chunk of how Darksiders 4 will look when it comes to gameplay, but THQ Nordic should be able to build off the foundation from the previous games in the franchise.

Full iPhone 17 Lineup Specs: Comparing the Latest Rumored Info

by admin August 29, 2025

While we typically wait until phones are actually released to compare them, Apple’s next iPhone models are so highly anticipated that we’ll make an exception. We’re basing our comparisons on the most credible rumors of what’s coming in the iPhone 17 series, including a potential super-thin iPhone 17 Air, to give readers an early sense of how the new series of phones may look.

Last year’s iPhone 16 series added a handful of upgrades over its predecessors, most notably the new Camera Control key. While the basic iPhone 16 and Plus models got a new ultrawide camera and bigger battery, as is typical with Apple’s phones, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max got the lion’s share of the improvements with upgraded rear cameras, pro video recording modes and thinner bezels.

Last year’s iPhone upgrades are a template for what we expect in the iPhone 17 — here’s how we anticipate those comparisons to shake out.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max led the line.

James Martin/CNET

iPhone 17 lineup price comparison

Apple will hold its iPhone 17 launch event on Sept. 9, with the tagline “Awe dropping” — and since its cutesy mantras usually hint at products being released, there’s plenty of speculation going around as to its meaning. The iPhone always goes on sale the Friday of the week after it’s announced, which should be Friday, Sept. 12, though Apple could always change it.

The iPhone 17 prices are up in the air, mainly due to tariffs. Increased costs of imports mean Apple could raise iPhone price tags, with Jefferies analyst Edison Lee predicting a $50 price hike across the lineup aside from the base iPhone 17 model. If that’s the case, then anticipated US starting prices could be as follows:

  • iPhone 17: $829 — Rumors suggest the baseline iPhone 17 won’t get as aggressive of tariff hikes, but market fluctuations could bump the price up slightly.
  • iPhone 17 Air: $979 — If the iPhone 17 Air is slotted into the lineup where the iPhone 16 Plus was priced (as the more expensive standard model), and with the rumored tariff hikes, its price could creep to nearly four figures.
  • iPhone 17 Pro: $1,049 — Rumors suggest the smaller Pro model could get a small price hike to start at $50 above last year’s iPhone 16 Pro.
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: $1,249 — Likewise, the higher-spec iPhone 17 Pro Max may get the same $50 price hike.

The iPhone 17 Pro could come with new finishes and colors.

Zain bin Awais/CNET

iPhone 17 lineups’ design and display changes, compared

  • iPhone 17: Camera bump redesign — Rumors suggest that the square-shaped camera bump from prior years will give way to a vertical pill-shaped ovoid with the usual two cameras (main and ultrawide).
  • iPhone 17 Air: Thinner, single-camera — Leaked CAD renders suggest the new, thin model will take the place of the iPhone 16 Plus as the larger non-Pro model, but could differ in only a single main rear camera. Unlike the standard iPhone 17, the CAD suggests this will have a horizontal camera bump.
  • iPhone 17 Pro: Larger horizontal camera bump — Rumors suggest the smaller Pro model won’t have any big changes aside from its rear cameras, which will be in their same offset three-lens triangle configuration but with a wide horizontal bump that extends the width of the phone.
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: Same larger horizontal camera bump — Likewise, the iPhone 17 Pro Max may just differ from last year’s model in a camera bump that extends horizontally across the entire rear width of the phone.

The biggest change we expect in the iPhone 17’s design is in a single model potentially added to the lineup: the iPhone 17 Air. Following plenty of rumors, the Air would be a thinner model of the iPhone line, akin to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, which would focus on a slimmer, lighter body that might have reduced battery life as a consequence. CNET Senior Reporter Abrar Al-Heeti found that with the S25 Edge. The Air could take the place of the larger Plus model in the iPhone 17 lineup, though whether that means the thinner phone is also bigger than the standard model is far from certain.

We’ve also heard rumors that the iPhone 17 line could swap from the square camera block it’s used for years to more of a pill-shaped camera bar that runs across the width of the phone’s body. Leaker Majin Bu posted a leaked image and CAD renders on X that show a differently shaped camera setup for each phone. And case-maker Dbrand is preselling an iPhone 17 Pro Tank case that shows off the wider camera bump as well.

iPhone 17 Lineup CAD pic.twitter.com/xednTkpJnq

— Majin Bu (@MajinBuOfficial) February 23, 2025

A Bloomberg report in April affirmed that other than the camera block, the iPhone 17 lineup will look much like last year’s phones, at least as far as rumors go, with the standard iPhone 17, Pro and Pro Max models largely unchanged from their iPhone 16 predecessors.

Assuming Apple isn’t changing the sizes of the smartphones, expect the iPhone 17 to have a 6.1-inch display, the iPhone 17 Pro to get a 6.3-inch screen and the iPhone 17 Pro Max a 6.9-inch display. The iPhone 17 Air’s size is uncertain, but Apple does have a tendency to retain phone sizes for years (just look at the iPhone SE line using the same display dimensions as the iPhone 6), so if the new thin phone has the same dimensions as the iPhone 16 Plus, it could have a 6.7-inch display.

Another display rumor suggests that Apple will close a feature gap between the baseline and pro models by making all phones have a maximum 120Hz refresh rate (prior lineups have kept the cheaper phones at 60Hz).

The iPhone 17 Pro could get a rectangular camera bump.

Zain bin Awais/CNET

Comparing iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max Cameras

  • iPhone 17: No changes — Rumors haven’t hinted at anything changing in the iPhone 17 from the 48-megapixel main camera and 12-megapixel ultrawide in last year’s iPhone 16.
  • iPhone 17 Air: Single camera — CAD renders suggest the iPhone 17 Air will have a single camera, presumably the 48-megapixel main camera found on the iPhone 16E.
  • iPhone 17 Pro: Improved zoom camera — While not widely corroborated, one rumor suggests the Pro models will get an up to 8x zoom camera, up from the 5x telephoto found in last year’s iPhone 16 Pro. It would presumably inherit its predecessor’s 48-megapixel main and 48-megapixel ultrawide cameras.
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: Improved zoom camera — Likewise, the iPhone 17 Pro Max could get a better telephoto camera and keep its predecessor’s 48-megapixel main and 48-megapixel ultrawide cameras.

We expect the usual feature gap to split the iPhone 17 generation, with the standard iPhone 17 having two cameras (48-megapixel main and 12-megapixel ultrawide) while the Pro and Pro Max models bump the ultrawide to 48 megapixels and also include a third telephoto camera (presumably the 12-megapixel with 5x optical zoom inherited from last year’s iPhones). One of the wildest rumors is that the 17 Pro and Pro Max will have 8x telephoto cameras. The report comes from MacRumors and mentions the lens having moving elements for continuous optical zoom at various focal lengths (think Sony Xperia 1 V).

Rumors suggest the fourth model — possibly the iPhone 17 Air — will only have one camera, which would likely be a 48-megapixel main shooter similar to the iPhone 16E. That would set it apart from last year’s iPhone 16 Plus, which had the same two cameras as the standard iPhone 16.

The only other significant camera rumor suggests that the front-facing shooters on all the phones will be upgrading to 24-megapixel cameras, up from 12 megapixels on last year’s phones.

The iPhone 17 line will run iOS 26.

James Martin/CNET

All iPhone 17 model specs compared

  • iPhone 17: Same CPU, possibly new modem — Rumors suggest the new iPhone 17 will pack the same A18 chip as its predecessor, but could get the Apple-made C1, a 5G modem, that debuted on the iPhone 16E.
  • iPhone 17 Air: New CPU, possibly new modem — Intriguingly, rumors suggest the thinner iPhone 17 Air may get the same A19 chip that’s expected to be in the Pro models out this year. It could also get the C1 modem.
  • iPhone 17 Pro: New CPU, possibly new modem — The iPhone 17 Pro is expected to get an upgrade to a new A19 chip, as well as possibly the C1 modem.
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: New CPU, bigger battery — Similarly, rumors suggest the iPhone 17 Pro Max is anticipated to pack an A19 chip and potentially the C1 modem, as well as a slightly larger battery.

As is typical with the feature gap between standard and pro models, rumors suggest the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max (as well as the Air) will get the newest A19 chip, while the regular iPhone 17 will get the same A18 chip that powered last year’s iPhone 16.

It’s unclear if the new phones will get another tech advancement — Apple’s C1 chip, the internally developed 5G modem that debuted in the iPhone 16E released earlier this year. Presumably, the company will want to bring it to the new iPhone 17 lineup, but we haven’t heard rumors suggesting so.

While Apple never explicitly says how much RAM its iPhones pack, most phones require 8GB of RAM to use AI features — and given Apple Intelligence debuted on the iPhone 16 lineup, it’s heavily suspected that those devices were given 8GB of RAM. Presumably, the iPhone 17 series will have the same amount.

There’s also no reason to believe Apple will switch up its storage options. The standard iPhone 17 will likely be offered in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB tiers, while the iPhone 17 Pro should have those and a 1TB version. The iPhone 17 Pro Max will likely only have 256GB, 512GB and 1TB options.

The batteries of the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro aren’t expected to change, though a leak suggests the iPhone 17 Pro Max could expand its capacity to 5,000 mAh, up from the 4,685 mAh on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The big question will be the size of the iPhone 17 Air’s battery, which will almost surely be smaller due to the thinner body; by comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge only has a 3,900 mAh capacity.

All iPhones will almost surely launch with iOS 26, the next version of Apple’s iPhone software that was renamed to align with the year following its release.
