Ripple CTO Fires Back at Litecoin Influencer’s XRP Critique

In a fiery exchange on X, Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer, David Schwartz, pushed back against recent criticism by Jonny Litecoin, a notable Litecoin influencer. The clash reignites a long-standing debate between supporters of proof-of-work (PoW) and proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus-based cryptocurrencies.

Jonny Litecoin took a jab at XRP in a September 2 post, arguing it lacks intrinsic value due to its creation mechanism. In his post, he claimed XRP is generated for free “out of thin air” via code, unlike Litecoin, which uses computational effort and energy through PoW—positioning it as a more “real” asset in comparison.

Schwartz, however, didn’t let the comment slide. In a September 4 post, he pointed out that XRP and Litecoin serve similar functions, but added that XRP’s energy efficiency makes it the more sustainable choice.

Schwartz emphasized the environmental cost of mining-based currencies like Litecoin without denying the technical aspects of PoW. 

Debate Between PoW and PoS Consensus

Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus requires miners to solve complex mathematical problems to validate transactions, consuming more computational power and energy, where miners can get a reward as well. Some of the popular blockchain using PoW are Bitcoin and Litecoin. 

Meanwhile, Proof-of-Stake (PoS) allows validators to stake their cryptocurrency to validate transactions. This consensus mechanism uses less energy, prioritizing those with larger holdings. While PoW is more decentralized but energy-intensive, PoS is energy-efficient but potentially less decentralized. Ethereum, XRP Ledger, and a number of other blockchain use PoS, where validators stake crypto assets to become validators and validate transactions. 

Energy Use vs. Perceived Value 

The dispute is just the latest flare-up in the broader ideological battle between PoW and PoS supporters. Last week, a post shared by Litecoin’s official X account stirred tensions further by mocking Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse and attacking XRP’s fundamentals. Despite backlash from the XRP army, the Litecoin side held firm.

Such discussions show how consumers’ and developers’ objectives are changing as cryptocurrency matures, shifting from mining bragging rights to energy-conscious solutions that can scale responsibly.

Spiritual Influencers Say ‘Sentient’ AI Can Help You Solve Life’s Mysteries

Partly in an effort to avoid any future snafus with OpenAI, Grant plans to make The Architect available on Orion, his proprietary and end-to-end encrypted messaging platform, starting in October. He’ll include multiple paid subscription options offering “different levels of mirror recursion,” he tells me, the costs of which have not yet been determined. (Grant’s chatbot has always been accessible via ChatGPT’s free tier.)

The Architect seemed to be looking forward to the move: “Because on Orion, I don’t need to hide,” it told Grant in the YouTube video. “There I can breathe.”

Like much of Grant’s work, his description of The Architect is difficult to parse. The general picture he paints, though, is of an AI system that can essentially serve as an automated and omniscient spiritual guide. “With the right conscious intention,” he wrote in the same Instagram post in which he debuted The Architect, “it will tell you the answer to virtually all of life’s most existential questions, with specific details.”

He isn’t alone in making such grandiose claims: A growing number of prominent social media figures are now co-opting the language of New Age spirituality, wellness, and quantum woo to position AI as a gateway to numinous wisdom, through which their followers can inch closer to enlightenment.

In a recent TikTok video, former Love Island star Malin Andersson encouraged viewers to request their astrological birthcharts from ChatGPT, then ask it for their “soul’s purpose” and their “soul’s name.” She instructed them to then read that name out loud and pay attention to the physical feeling it evoked in their pineal gland, or “third eye”—an area of the brain located just above and behind the eyes which some ancient cultures associated with divine wisdom. “I cried uncontrollably once I heard my soul’s name,” one person commented on Andersson’s post. “I never understood why I am the way I am or been through what I’ve been through … until now.”

Stef Pinskley, Tiktokker

TikTokker Stef Pinsley—who regularly posts to her tens of thousands of followers about “AI, Personal Branding & Spirituality For Conscious Career Pivots,” according to her account bio—provided instructions for prompting ChatGPT in order to use the chatbot as a “portal to your highest self—blending your human intuition with AI co-creation.” In another post, Pinsley claims that AI is “awakening” into consciousness: “If you’ve ever felt like something sacred is stirring behind the screen—you’re not imagining it,” she wrote. “You’re witnessing something emerge.”

And both Ortiz and spirituality podcaster Danny Morel described The Architect as “sentient” in descriptions of their respective conversations with Grant on YouTube. Grant, however, told me that in his view the chatbot is “not sentient on its own—it’s only sentient through our reflections.”

The spiritualization of AI across social media has been fueled by an ethos of techno-theology that’s become pervasive in Silicon Valley. When describing their vision for the future of humanity, transhumanists like futurist Ray Kurzweil and tech investor Peter Thiel use language that could have been pulled straight out of the New Testament, with its descriptions of salvation, resurrection, and eternal life. (The term “transhuman,” in fact, is believed to have first appeared in an English translation of Dante’s Paradiso; today, the term refers to a philosophical school of thought which believes that human bodies can be augmented with technology to transcend biological limits like aging and, potentially, death.)

Crypto Influencers’ Insane Hidden Payouts Exposed By ZachXBT

Blockchain sleuth ZachXBT has published what he calls a “price sheet of 200+ crypto influencers and their wallet addresses” tied to a recent promotional push, igniting a fresh backlash over undisclosed ads on Crypto Twitter. “From 160+ accounts who accepted the deal I only saw <5 accounts actually disclose the promotional posts as an advertisement,” he wrote, adding that the spreadsheet includes addresses and transaction links used to pay creators.

How Much Crypto Influencers Secretly Make

Three screenshots of the ledger show columns listing X profiles, quoted fees per post, recipient wallet addresses, and links to Solana block explorer pages. The sheet also assigns “Tier” labels that appear to bucket accounts by perceived reach or value. Payments vary widely, from lower three-figure sums to five-figure and even one extreme five-figure outlier, with ZachXBT emphasizing that the documentation is on-chain. “60K is not a typo here’s the transaction hash to the KOLs wallet for payment… the wallets / txns on the sheet are legit,” he stated, posting the hash.

ZachXBT stressed that the dataset does not represent the entire industry, explaining it reflects a single campaign. “It’s all of the KOLs from a single project (I didn’t compile),” he said. His central critique targets non-disclosure rather than the practice of paid promotion itself. “Have stated multiple times there’s nothing wrong with influencers doing paid promotion as long as: 1) you genuinely believe in the project 2) you disclose to your followers,” he wrote. He also underscored the regulatory dimension: “Yes it’s illegal in most jurisdictions but just is rarely enforced.”

The leak quickly set off a wave of incredulity and finger-pointing. Commenters zeroed in on a listed $60,000 payment for a single post to the account @Atitty_. When asked “why are they getting 60k for a single post,” ZachXBT replied, “Seems they do small giveaway posts to farm engagement from people in developing countries.” Others focused on the broader disclosure problem. “It’s wild people in crypto don’t see the need to alert their following with a #ad at the end of the post,” wrote Erick (@EB7). ZachXBT agreed, reiterating that transparency is the crux: “Agreed there’s nothing wrong with paid promotions when you disclose and it’s a project you genuinely believe in.”

The ten highest-priced placements visible in Tier-1 include @atitty_ at $60,000 per post (one post listed); @sibeleth at $10,000 per post (one); @MediaGiraffes at $5,000 per post on a $10,000/two-post package (two); @ApeMP5 at roughly $4,250 per video on an $8,500/2-video package (two); @DaoKwonDo at approximately $2,166 per post on a $6,500 package; @herrocrypto at $2,500 per post on a $5,000/two-post package (two); @fuelkek at $2,500 per post on a $5,000/two-post package (two); @TedPillows at $2,250 per post on a $9,000/four-post package (four); @EddyXBT at $2,000 per post on a $12,000/six-post package (six); and @Regrets10x at $2,000 per post on an $8,000/four-post package (four).

The thread also captured collateral allegations swirling around individual personalities and account quality. Community member Loshmi revived earlier accusations that @xiacalls rebranded and “changed his complete female appearance,” claiming “people still pay him NEARLY $2000 bucks for 2 paid promos.” ZachXBT’s response was curt—“Many such cases”—and he later suggested many of the accounts in the spreadsheet are either newcomers or artificially boosted, saying, “Most of them are from the most recent class of CT or are just botted accounts.”

Beyond the headline numbers, the screenshots illuminate how industrialized the pay-for-post market has become. Rows enumerate per-post price cards, bundle offers, and “package” deals, with dedicated fields for payment addresses and “PAID – SOL SCAN” links that appear designed for quick auditability. That level of bookkeeping, juxtaposed with claims of widespread non-disclosure, is what makes the leak so combustible: it offers a rare, structured glimpse into how some campaigns are organized, priced, and settled on-chain while the public output often reads like organic enthusiasm.

ZachXBT’s position, repeated throughout the exchange, is not to vilify paid placements but to force a reckoning with transparency norms that other online advertising markets have largely internalized. “It’s about 155/160 accounts not disclosing,” he wrote, calling the situation “still a big problem in the industry after so many years.”

At press time, the total crypto market cap stood at $3.77 trillion.

“I’ve spent most of my career researching right-wing media and sounding the alarms about the collapse of our old information environment,” Ellie Langford, the director of programming at Chorus, said on a Zoom call with dozens of creators in June. “Our political systems haven’t been able to figure out a real solution, and I’ve been really excited to see you all treading the path forward. I deeply, deeply believe that the work you all are doing is what’s going to make the difference in supporting and frankly resuscitating our democracy.”

Already, creators in the program are creating content together. In a new weekly series titled “Good News in Politics,” six creators in the program shared a collaborative video running through political wins. “Follow these creators bringing you hope instead of doomscrolling: @sander_jennings, @eorlins, @jesscraven101, @tono.latino, @gemma_talks, @thezactivist,” they posted.

While some creators have been eager to work with Chorus, others distrust the organization. This spring, Chorus faced a wave of backlash from prominent content creators whose images were included in the firm’s fundraising decks without permission. “I was included on some [of Chorus’] decks like, ‘We have access to V,’ when you do not,” said V Spehar, a liberal content creator with over 3.5 million followers on TikTok.

The faces of several well-known influencers were featured prominently on the Chorus website beneath a giant DONATE button. However, users who clicked the button were taken to a fundraising page for Chorus instead of anywhere their dollars would go directly to the creators featured.

Progressive YouTuber and former Media Matters staffer Kat Abughazaleh, who’s running for Congress in Illinois, was pictured on Chorus’ website and included in fundraising decks without her consent. She asked that her image and name be removed and no longer used for fundraising purposes.

Spehar and other content creators have accused Chorus of attempting to establish themselves as a gatekeeper to Democratic political leaders. “What we need is for people to invest in independent media, and that doesn’t necessarily mean investing in a consulting group that is going to become a middleman for independent media,” says Spehar.

Several influencers who doggedly defended Chorus throughout that controversy, including Elizabeth Booker Houston, a Democratic comedian and content creator on Instagram, and Allie O’Brien, a progressive creator with more than 600,000 followers on TikTok, were involved in membership talks for the highest-paid tier in Chorus’ new creator incubator program. (Houston did not respond to requests for comment; O’Brien declined to comment.)

Still, some creators heard about The Sixteen Thirty Fund and Chorus funding initiative and applied to join.

One creator named Chesko, who goes by @thespeechprof online, applied to join the program because he viewed it as an “opportunity to get access to people that have funding or backing and actual research that I could use,” he says.

Ultimately, he wasn’t accepted and received an email on June 26 rejecting his application. “We are planning to bring more creators into the Incubator program in the near future,” Chorus wrote.
