Bloober Team has plans for more horror games on Switch 2 – could Silent Hill 2 be next?

Bloober Team has plans to release more horror games on Nintendo’s Switch 2, following the release next month of its latest game Cronos: The New Dawn.


“I’m trying to make my personal dreams come true,” Bloober CEO Piotr Babieno told The Game Business. “I am a huge Nintendo fan. I grew up with Nintendo consoles. The most important horrors, like Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 4… were available on Nintendo GameCube. It was a gold time for Nintendo fans. In some ways, we would like to be the one to open a new chapter for Nintendo right now.”


He continued: “We have some plans. We are not able to share our vision for the future yet. But definitely Nintendo fans could take a look at Bloober Team.”

Babieno also hinted Bloober has an eye on cosy games, citing the Luigi’s Mansion series as an example of how the genre can cross over with horror.


“The best [example] is Luigi’s Mansion,” said Babieno. “What [Nintendo game director] Kono-san did with this title was pretty impressive. And I believe that there is a huge possibility to repeat such an idea in the future.”


Could we see the Silent Hill 2 remake on Switch 2. It’s currently a console exclusive on Sony’s PlayStation 5, but that exclusivity ends after the game’s first year on sale – that’ll be 8th October.

If Cronos: The New Dawn is coming to Switch 2, then perhaps Silent Hill 2 could follow suit in the future. Otherwise there’s an opportunity for ports of Bloober’s previous games (there’s a film adaptation of The Medium on the way), or whatever else the studio is working on in the future.


Cronos: The New Dawn is out on 5th September across Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows, and macOS. Eurogamer’s Ian Higton went hands-on with Cronos back in July, but found it a little derivative.

Peek Inside the ‘Fallout’ Vault at Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood

Universal Studios is rolling out its houses of horror across the country—opening three major hubs that monster fans can make their Halloween season travel destinations—in this month’s theme park news.

io9 was invited by Universal to experience the very big bag of tricks and treats the theme park creatives are unleashing into the world for fandom fiends seeking thrilling frights. On the West Coast, Universal Studios Hollywood prepares to open the vault with the Fallout house inspired by the Prime Video series and Bethesda video game franchise, alongside its other horror property offerings, come September.

Meanwhile in Las Vegas, AREA15 has opened the gates of Universal Horror Unleashed, a desert warehouse that holds haunted gateways to chilling cinematic experiences. And of course things are already getting started at Halloween Horror Nights Orlando with Terrifier’s Art the Clown being set loose alongside the Five Nights at Freddy’s gang.

HHN Hollywood creative director John Murdy walked through the Fallout house with press to explain the story guests would be experiencing nightly during the Halloween event’s run. “Going through the series, my initial reaction was, ‘Wow, this is a huge world,’ and there’s three different kinds of storylines going on with the show. There’s Lucy’s storyline where she’s searching for her father, there’s Maximus’ storyline with the Brotherhood of Steel, and then there’s the Ghoul and his storyline—kind of going from being a TV actor cowboy to his transformation into this bounty hunter character.”

“So what we decided ultimately to do is we would pretty much be following in Lucy’s footsteps,” he shared, as we saw the under-construction vault setting for the wedding leading to her eventual breakout through the vault door.

“So we’re gonna be taking you from the vault to the wasteland, meeting all the characters along the way,” Murdy continued, and elaborated that Hollywood’s version of the house will offer different set pieces than Orlando. One major difference is that the West Coast will get the mutated Yao Guai bear, whereas Florida will get the Gulper.

Murdy knew one thing for certain: “And then for us, when I saw the Super Duper Mart sequence, which is actually the fourth episode of Fallout, I was like, that is tailor-made for a finale to a Halloween horror house because it’s when all the ghouls are breaking out.”

Murdy acknowledged that the Fallout house would also include many Easter eggs for the show and the games, such as a final scare piece to hype up season two of the Prime Video series.

Universal Horror Unleashed at AREA15 Las Vegas

In Las Vegas, Universal’s year-round horror haven is now officially open with houses that feature The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the Universal Monsters, The Exorcist: Believer, and HHN West’s fan-favorite Scarecrow. The Sin City attraction, which io9 attended as a media guest, is the gem of AREA15 Zone 2; it aims to attract immersive-experience fans to a new side of the Strip that elevates experiential entertainment and dining.

Universal Horror Unleashed features spooky sips and eats in addition to live acts, including HHN East’s icons Jack the Clown and Chance—who perfectly suit the chaotic clownery of Vegas.

Many HHN fans will notice that neither Orlando nor Hollywood features a Universal Monsters house this year and that’s because of Universal Horror Unleashed. And when we say it’s the best one yet, we mean it mostly because it finally debuts the Creature From the Black Lagoon as part of the action.

There’s a whole under-the-sea sequence where you wade past seaweed to come face-to-face with the creature that is swimmingly well executed. On top of that you’ll encounter Frankenstein’s Monster, the Bride, the Phantom of the Opera, Quasimodo, the Wolf Man, and the Mummy—along with the Gill-man—in an all-out mash that you’ll want to go through over and over again. Universal Studios Orlando HHN and Epic Universe

While we haven’t yet visited HHN Orlando, the fun officially kicks off this weekend with the annual event’s opening. To celebrate, Art the Clown from Terrifier has taken over the social media account to show he’s taken Jack’s place as the resident clown at Universal Studios in Florida.

And of course, if you’re hoping to see the Universal Monsters while you travel to the East Coast, you can make a day of it at Epic Universe with a visit to Darkmoor and Frankenstein Manor for Monsters Unchained—and then of course go scream your face off at HHN. There’s also no telling what monsters you’ll run into; there could be an Invisible Man or a wild Ygor looking for the Frankenstein creations.

Meet Freddy Fazbear and Friends at Halloween Horror Nights’ ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ House

Take a look inside the Five Nights at Freddy’s house at Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights. It looks like a real Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza location right out of the mind of game creator Scott Cawthon and Emma Tammi’s cinematic adaptation.

io9 was invited to a behind-the-scenes walkthrough of the Hollywood attraction based on the video game and Blumhouse film franchise, opening at HHN ahead of December’s Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.  Creative director John Murdy took us through to highlight the incredible work done between Horror Nights, Cawthon, and Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.

The latter provided incredible puppets to bring the iconic FNAF characters to haunting life, powered by Universal’s own team of animatronic engineers. “Going back to our Chucky house, we have a group that works for our tech services department that are young mechanical engineers—they just happen to all love Horror Nights and a few years ago they were coming to us and saying, ‘Hey, we’d love to work with you guys and try to do actual animatronics, which we’ve never done.’” Murdy shared. The Chucky animatronics in the HHN attraction inspired by the Syfy series featured pint-sized and giant versions of the terror titan killer doll.

Murdy continued, “We’ve gotten a lot more technologically advanced with the skillset of this particular group, so they built like 17 animated Chuckys that year we did Chucky, and then last year they built a lot of stuff for A Quiet Place. This year they’re doing the T-60 [from Fallout] for us and they’re also doing the hero Freddy Fazbear [as a] fully electronic character.”

He shared about getting to combine tech with the practical elements of their haunted houses, in particular FNAF, which has been a top-requested property for the event. “A lot of this is simply fan wish fulfillment. It’s like, OK, let’s go for it; let’s give them the houses they’ve been dying to get. And that kind of rolled through the whole development process. This house was developed a little differently than all our other houses up to this point. We always collaborate with our sister park in Orlando, but usually that collaboration is more along the lines of, ‘OK, what’s the main story we want to tell?’ [And] when we made our list of what we wanted from the movie based on the first movie to be in this house, there was nothing we didn’t do. We got every single thing on our list.”

The traditional haunt is, of course primarily scareactors in costumes, but for Five Nights at Freddy’s, the challenges posed really needed safer solutions for performers first and foremost. Reaching out to Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, which worked on the puppets used in the Blumhouse FNAF film and on Universal Fan Fest Nights, was the obvious course of action.

“The other big thing we knew early on was that in order to pull this off, we really needed to work with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. [They] had to build so many creatures and they had to learn how to do it for us,” Murdy explained. “It’s really different when you’re making a movie. You know, with Five Nights at Freddy’s, [there are] puppeted figures, and there are guys in suits [on a movie set]. Guys in suits are out of the question for us because you can do that in a movie for—typically when the cameras are rolling—it’s like a minute or two until they cut and then [the costume] comes off. The performer can go to their trailer and chill out. That’s not how it works in Halloween Horror Nights. Our performers need to be on set for roughly about 45 minutes and then they’re taking a 45-minute break, and then they’re back on set. So we needed to figure out the ergonomics behind all of this as well as the aesthetics, and so it was a big collaboration with Henson. We’ve been in meetings with them every week for well over a year.”

The set immersing park guests into the environment of a Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza was also very important to the HHN teams and Murdy confirmed Hollywood and Orlando’s houses are virtually alike save for some small differences. Both teams worked hard to include as many Easter eggs from the film, such as kid’s art alluding to the yellow rabbit and the training video, which will play as guests enter a night of security guard watch.

Right off the bat you enter the restaurant parlor area with the stage, where the animatronics come to life with puppeteers supplemented by scareactors. “There’s a lot of puppets, but we wanted that human factor as well, like the classic jump scare that are kind of the bread and butter of haunted houses. So that’s where we’re using the ghost kids and we’re also using all of those guys who broke in and trashed the place,” Murdy said. Foxy is teased with eerie music as you venture throughout as if you’re Mike Schmidt (played by Josh Hutcherson in the movies) on a security shift.

 

As you go along, you’ll encounter not only Freddy but also come face to face with Chica with Carl the Cupcake, Bonnie, Foxy, and of course Yellow Bonnie. In order to really capture how these set-piece fights will be effective, Murdy described the mechanics of the scare with Freddy Fazbear.

“In the Chucky house, we created this character we called Mega Chucky. How that worked is there’s a track above the performer’s head and what’s called a traveler. The performer is kind of like strapped into this thing. The monitor for the performer to see is inside the figure itself, and then they’ve got shoes that connect to the feet of the character, so they’re actually able to kind of take a few steps.”

“So we did that for [Freddy] he’s right over here on a big traveler track, so he has the ability [to] come out from there [and] take steps [toward guests].”

You don’t have to be a FNAF diehard to enjoy the work that went into this house, but of course there’s plenty for the fandom, including a certain striped cup and foil ball on the security desk (IYKYK). The nostalgia was so real and Murdy revealed that scents will harken to the ’90s era of pizza arcade casinos so many of us grew up with.

“Like there’s something still lingering in this environment because it was a family entertainment center,” is how he described the aromatics of the house. “[A place] where they served a lot of pizza and a lot of popcorn and a lot of that kind of stuff. I think in the showroom, it’s more of a popcorn thing. The pizza’s [scent] in the kitchen, I believe.”

And of course the mood will be set throughout with the music from the franchise, with the iconic theme greeting you when you enter: “It’s particularly in the facade, and then the rest of it is all score music from the film.” As a Henson puppet fan, I’m stoked to see the characters in action and having attended HHN for decades, I can attest that the Five Nights at Freddy’s house takes things to a new level for theme park haunts.

Well, it happened again: the Maw devoured a Monday. My recent, highly suspicious news article about a sudden “bank holiday” was, of course, a hasty PR smokescreen to avert a stock market crash. In Horace’s name, we have now forced the Maw to sick up the missing Monday, but locating the gag reflex of a cosmic monster has its risks, and there have been a few casualties.

Mark has theoretically been “on holiday” since last Wednesday, returning tomorrow, but that’s another piece of disinfo – he’s actually stranded somewhere in the Cretaceous period. James, meanwhile, has come down with a case of the Schrödingers, neither away at Gamescom nor back at his desk. I am going to email him shortly – fingers crossed the quantum binary collapses in a way conducive to preview write-ups. As for this week’s new PC games – here you are. I’ve included the regurgitated Monday, but please handle with care as it’s still rather radioactive and, er, talkative.

  • By eck, I love the cutaway spaceships of Pixel Starships 2, “an FTL-esque game in a MMO setting” with programmable crewmate behaviour.
  • Blumhouse-published Eyes Of Hellfire (pictured) is Among Us but set in a handsomely furnished, orthographic haunted house. I think this is “orthographic”, anyway. It’s the kind of elevated diagonal viewpoint that generally gets handwaved as “isometric”. Any pointers, geometry fiends?

  • This week’s sacrifice upon the altar of Hybridisation is Neon Village, a match-3 town/deck builder with roguelike elements.
  • Shinobi: Art Of Vengeance marks the bloody revival of another ancient Sega side-scroller, I think, though it’s juuuust possible that it’s actually a painting sim.

As always, let us know if there’s any must-plays we’ve missed. My plans for this week include making sense of a big, tangly interview-driven feature and maybe writing something about liminality that would secretly be a love letter to a particular videogame level. Providing the superposition resolves in our favour, I imagine James will be Jamescomming it up with sundry impressions articles and interviewage. Assuming he overcomes the giant Venus flytraps and makes it past the Ankylosauri to the time portal, Mark should be on regular news and possibly a review. I seem to remember him bagsying something in the spreadsheet before he disappeared into the vortex. What are you up to this week?

Arkham Horror RPG Starter Set

Hungering Abyss is intended as an introduction to Arkham Horror: The Roleplaying Game. As a module, its goal is to teach both players and GM the game and to have a fun experience while learning. It comes packed with monsters, allies, characters, and maps. Importantly for the Arkham Horror seal of approval, it is equipped with evidence and enough detail in universe to have the players actually investigate instead of playing as investigators. While this might sound daunting for a newbie GM, the module facilitates GMing in a way that feels natural.

Starting at the beginning, the module first gives you some background and conversation starters for a quick session 0 with the group. It’s not a trigger warning, it’s a group conversation around how to deal with death and the supernatural. The module also makes sure to call out that it’s possible to earnestly engage with the works of Lovecraft, without also being a racist sexist too, which is important because… Lovecraft.

The story itself is three acts with ten scenes total. Depending on the group, it’s possible to do each of the three-scene acts in a single sitting (Act 2 has an optional scene). But don’t expect to blaze through the acts. There’s lots to explore and investigate; if there’s a Poirot or Holmes at the table, it’s going to take more time. The pacing feels right, with a mix of investigation and combat, but it’s absolutely possible to follow bad leads or flounder with next steps, especially at the beginning. 

There’s a lot of information for the GM in Act 1, mostly before a scene even starts. This is my biggest gripe about the way information is presented here. There’s simply too much irrelevant info in the first few pages. The first scene is unstructured investigation, so why are you telling me about movement in combat and complex actions that are not going to be used until later? There are scenes that introduce rules as they become relevant, so it’s not like the designer and writer didn’t realize that was an option.

Hungering Abyss is walking a fine line between railroading players and GM, and letting everyone flail about for leads. In the case of the investigatory scenes, the module gives a good bit of set dressing, clues, and nearby objects but also reminds GMs to use their imagination to provide more detail for the players. In early narrative scenes, the module gives GMs advice on how and when to nudge players in the right direction. In the first combat scene, there’s balancing options for helping the team if they are struggling. I personally like both aids, since most players don’t like spinning their wheels uselessly and no GM wants to have a TPK in their first combat. 

I’m not getting into spoilers for any future investigators, but one thing I really like about Hungering Abyss is that there’s so much flexibility. There are NPCs who can join your party, but aren’t required to progress. There’s breadcrumbs for each pre-made character to care about so that each player can be hooked into the story. Scenes can have multiple solutions and resolutions. Where this really shines is Act 2, where there are eight different locations in town to visit as the team pleases. There’s really only one required location to visit to make it to Act 3, but gathering more information is almost certain to be educational. And I’ve yet to meet a table of players who pass up the opportunity to shop.

As a tool to teach both players and GM about the Arkham Horror roleplaying game, this booklet does a pretty good job. Keywords are in bold, mechanics are mostly introduced slow enough to not overwhelm, it’s long enough for everyone to feel comfortable with most mechanics by the end, and you get to level up twice. As a GM, I love the clear reference materials and direction, as well as the flow of the booklet, as you aren’t constantly flipping across the whole thing. As a player, I like to not feel like I’m drowning. The booklet is sturdy enough to fold over to show single pages as needed, as well as standing up to reuse if you get to introduce the Hungering Abyss to lots of people.

Silent Hill f producer insists it is “an action horror game” and any comparisons to a soulslike are “disingenuous”

Silent Hill series producer Motoi Okamoto has called comparisons of the upcoming Silent Hill f to soulslike games “disingenuous”, insisting “a lot of these things we actually pulled from classic Silent Hill titles”.

The comment comes as more and more footage emerges in the run-up to 25th September’s launch day. And while we already knew the combat would have a “heavier focus on melee and be more action-oriented compared to last year’s Silent Hill 2: Remake”, fans have expressed concern about how enemies react, degradable weapons, and “soulslike” boss encounters.

Now, in an interview with IGN, Okamoto – who has become a familiar face having worked on all of the games since the series was resurrected in 2022, including Silent Hill: The Short Message and Silent Hill 2: Remake – insists some of the things fans have seen in the videos “aren’t new and exclusive to soulslike games”.

“This is one of the things that we see – the term soulslike – being thrown around on the internet quite a bit,” Okamoto said. “And I think it’s a label that’s a little bit disingenuous. Modern players will see like, oh there’s a stamina meter, there’s a dodge, and they’re like, ‘Okay, it’s a soulslike’.

“But to be very honest, a lot of these things we actually pulled from classic Silent Hill titles. Look at Silent Hill 4 – there’s a charge meter for your attacks, kind of like our Focus meter. And even for Silent Hill 3 there’s a stamina meter. You see it later on.”

According to IGN’s interview, Okamoto “expressed a degree of frustration with the online dialogue surrounding the game”.

“These things aren’t new and exclusive to soulslike games,” he added. “They’ve been a part of action horror games for a very, very long time. If you have these things you’re labelled a soulslike. And we’d like to reiterate we are an action horror game, but we are not a soulslike.”

Silent Hill f was unveiled as part of Konami’s four-game series revival back in 2022, but it took until the middle of March 2025 to get an update. Now that Bloober Team’s superb Silent Hill 2 Remake is behind us, the publisher is turning its attention to this follow-up, a new mainline instalment set in 1960s Japan.

It’s being developed by Neobards Entertainment (which has previously served as a support studio for Capcom’s Resident Evil games), with creature and character design by Kera, a script by When They Cry writer Ryukishi07, and music from the series’ usual composer, Akira Yamaoka. It’s set to release on 25th September.

John Carpenter’s Halloween is the latest horror movie classic to get the multiplayer treatment, and it’s coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC sometime in 2026.


Halloween is being developed by Illfonic, the studio behind the likes of Friday the 13th: The Game, Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game, and Predator Hunting Grounds. And like those movie adaptations, Halloween is also being designed as a “one-versus-many” asymmetrical horror affair as the iconic Michael Myers pursues the residents of Haddonfield.


“In dynamic and ever-changing 1v4 asymmetrical multiplayer matches, hero players must arm themselves with everyday household items, weapons, and knowledge to combat an unpredictable and unkillable enemy,” Illfonic explains. “Convincing townsfolk and contacting the police will lead to increasingly powerful and thorough neighbourhood patrols. To even the odds, you can command and equip NPCs with weapons to outsmart or even overpower The Shape, providing precious windows for escape.”

Illfonic reckons its take on Halloween “masterfully recreates” the ambience of the original 1978 movie, with talk of multiple maps set across “authentic” Haddonfield locations, and a soundtrack inspired by John Carpenter’s classic score. Notably too, its familiar asymmetrical multiplayer mode will be accompanied by an offline single-player story mode featuring bots.


There’s no word of a release date for Halloween beyond its “2026” arrival on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, but there’s a mood-setting trailer above.

The inspiration behind new doggie horror Good Boy

Good Boy is a horror movies that’s told from the point-of-view of a dog, and the idea for that intriguing concept came from an unexpected celluloid source.

Good Boy is a haunted house movie in which a clever canine called Indy endeavours to save his master from a supernatural threat that only the dog can see and hear.

The horror movie has done the festival circuit and reviews have been rapturous, with Good Boy currently on a Rotten Tomatoes score of 95%.

Director Ben Leonberg has already spoken about how he coaxed such an amazing performance out of the dog in question, who also happens to be his own pet pooch. While below you can find out how he came by the high-concept idea…

How Poltergeist inspired Good Boy

In and interview with Filmmaker, Leonberg revealed that the idea came to him while viewing one of the great horror movies.

“I was watching Poltergeist probably for the 100th time,” explains Leonberg. “The opening follows the family’s golden retriever who we learn can clearly perceive the ghosts before anyone else.

“This same trope – the dog who ‘knows better’ – appears in tons of horror movies, and I thought that someone should make a movie from that dog’s perspective.”

Then it was about finding his lead, though he didn’t have to look far: “Indy, my actual dog, is the second part of the equation, and the secret sauce that makes the concept work.

“He naturally has this really intense, unblinking stare. He usually hits you with it before meal time, but on the occasions when he’s just staring at ’empty’ corners, or tracking smells only he can perceive… it’s really spooky. I think every dog owner has wondered, or worried, why their dog suddenly barks for no reason, or stares at ‘nothing.’

Why Indy wasn’t first choice to star

That’s not so say Indy was a lock-in for the lead. During a conversation with Variety, Leonberg explained how the movie nearly went from short to feature without his beloved best friend.

“There was this short film contest called The Rode Reel, which was the biggest online short film contest we entered,” says Leonberg. “We didn’t make the short with the express purpose of [adapting it into a feature], but there was a big financial prize, which was the kickstart to making this movie. We won, but then Indy was nominated for best actor.

“When I started writing the film, I didn’t intend to make the movie with Indy, but people were reacting to him so strongly and so positively. I do think he legitimately has some quirks that make him uniquely suited to do this. It kind of forced our hand. He became my leading man.”

Seven years after IllFonic and Gun Media had to say farewell to their hit multiplayer survival horror game Friday the 13th, they’re back—except this time, it’s Halloween. Announced at today’s Future Game Show, Halloween is a “one-versus-many stealth horror experience” in which players don the creepy mask of Michael Myers to hunt down the citizens of Haddonfield, or work together as his potential victims in a desperate effort to stop him.

“Stick to the shadows as Civilians, seeking out Haddonfield residents to warn them and searching for a way to contact the authorities,” the press blast says. “As Michael Myers, give them a reason to fear the dark and cut the phone lines to prevent the police from ruining his favorite holiday. Whether playing solo in story mode, against bots offline, or facing others in online multiplayer, each mode rewards stealth, strategy, and skillful play.

“Staying true to the original film, IllFonic masterfully recreates the eerie atmosphere of Haddonfield across multiple maps and authentic locations. With a haunting ambience and score inspired by the legendary movie, Halloween brings the terror home in a new experience that will keep both old and new generations looking over their shoulders.”

I’m not much of a horror fan so I’m really in no position to speak to the distinctions between the Friday the 13th and Halloween franchises—it’s all just freaky masks, huge knives, and screaming teenyboppers to me. But I do find it very interesting, and amusing, that IllFonic and Gun Media are coming back with a game that, superficially at least, looks so much like Friday the 13th. There will definitely be differences in gameplay: Players will alert NPC townsfolk and police to the looming threat, for instance, leading to “increasingly powerful and thorough neighborhood patrols” that will help even the odds against the killer.

But the bottom line is that a small group of soft, squishy locals are going to have to work together to survive an unkillable maniac who exists only to hack those locals into little bloody bits, and, well… that sure sounds like tomayto, tomahto to me.

I might be reading too much into it, but IllFonic co-founder and CEO Charles Brungardt also seemed to throw a little shade at his former partners while praising his new ones.

“Working with Compass International Pictures and Further Front has been a dream,” Brungardt said. “As rights holders of the film and producers on the game, they’ve shared incredible insights to help us stay true to the soul of the 1978 film. Their tremendous passion for Michael Myers has pushed us to craft something that fans of the franchise will truly appreciate.”

Friday the 13th: The Game, you’ll recall, was brought low by a dispute over the ownership of the franchise between Victor Miller, the writer of the original film, and Sean Cunningham, the producer and director of the film.

Dog-Led Horror Movie Good Boy Gets First Trailer

I like horror movies okay, but I need a good concept to draw me in. Good Boy certainly has one of those, but the concept that makes it compelling is also one that taps into my most deep seated fears, and I don’t know if I can handle it. As the name suggests, Good Boy is a spooky movie whose events are viewed from the perspective of a dog. Aren’t we as humans subjected to the horrors enough? Do we need to bring our canine companions into the pain and suffering?

Good Boy premiered at South by Southwest way back in March, and the reception to the supernatural horror movie has been really strong so far, with early reviews calling it one of the best in the genre this year. Though I don’t know where it all ends up, several reviews call out that it’s very emotional and heartbreaking—which could mean anything, really—so if you’re looking for a straightforward scare, be aware that Good Boy might have a bit more going on. The film stars Indy as a dog whose owner has suffered a death in the family and who moves into a haunted house. Ever the watchful companion, Indy notices that something is amiss and he and his owner are not alone. Now, he has to do what he can to save his owner from the dangers lurking in their new home. 

Y’all, I’mma throw up. There’s a reason Does the Dog Die?, an entire website dedicated to asking if a dog you see in movie trailers is going to die, exists, and it’s for people like me who can’t handle that shit. There’s already a page for Good Boy on that website and I saw it as I was grabbing the link. I can barely handle seeing a dog be in distress under normal circumstances, much less supernatural ones. Whether Indy makes it out or not, he’s about to have a bad night. I guess I’ve got some time to figure out if I want to see Good Boy, as the movie is coming to theaters on October 3.
