Two new Legendary heroes have been added to the roster of playable characters. Two More Heroes Join Marvel Cosmic Invasion’s Large Roster

by admin September 17, 2025

The upcoming retro-inspired brawler Marvel Cosmic Invasion is one of the coolest-looking Marvel games in years. And now we know the identities of two more Marvel characters who will be joining the pixelated action when Cosmic Invasion launches later this year. One of them is a very popular character you are likely familiar with, and the other is Cosmic Ghost Rider.

Announced in March during a Nintendo Direct, Marvel Cosmic Invasion is a side-scrolling 2D pixel-art beat ’em up being developed by Tribute Games. That’s the team behind Mercenary Kings and the totally rad TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, which was also a 2D co-op brawler. Cosmic Invasion, like Tribute’s past work, looks to be another snappy and action-packed retro throwback that I’ll be playing over and over with friends. We’ll all have a huge roster of characters to pick from, as Tribute and Marvel have confirmed that 15 heroes will be available at launch. And now we know two more names that have made the cut: Black Panther and Cosmic Ghost Rider.

On September 17, Tribute put out a trailer showing off the newly announced Cosmic Invasion characters, which you can watch below:

I likely don’t need to explain who Black Panther is to most people reading a video game website in 2025. The character has appeared in multiple games, movies, and award-winning comics and has become extremely popular, thanks in large part to the fantastic performance delivered by the late Chadwick Boseman in the MCU. However, Cosmic Ghost Rider is a bit more obscure and quite an odd duck. The short version is that he’s an alt-universe version of The Punisher that died and became the Ghost Rider and then met up with Galactus, who made him his Herald aka his new Silver Surfer basically. Yeah, it’s weird. But hey, he’s literally got Cosmic in his name, so he seems like a fine choice for Cosmic Invasion.

Every character confirmed for Marvel Cosmic Invasion

Here are all the Marvel Cosmic Invasion characters that have been officially revealed so far. As mentioned, the full roster will include 15 people, so after today’s reveal, that leaves just three more heroes left to unveil.

  • Captain America
  • Spider-Man
  • Venom
  • Wolverine
  • Storm
  • Phyla-Vell
  • Nova
  • Rocket Raccoon
  • She-Hulk
  • Beta Ray Bill
  • Silver Surfer
  • Black Panther
  • Cosmic Ghost Rider

It makes sense that the game will feature a huge roster, as the big gimmick in Cosmic Invasion is that everyone picks two characters that you can then swap between while playing. This means that if four players join the game, you’ll be rolling into fights with eight Marvel characters. Good luck to all the random, nameless goons trying to fight Venom, Storm, Wolverine, Spider-Man, and Black Panther.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion looks great and sounds like a blast based on previews of the upcoming brawler. We still don’t have a specific release date for the game yet beyond 2025. Hopefully it lands soon, though maybe not in October. That month is already a mess.

Gabriel Angelos and some of his Blood Ravens

The Blood Ravens’ Chapter Master Gabriel Angelos won’t be in Dawn of War 4 so it can focus on relatively ‘normal’ heroes instead

by admin September 1, 2025

Jan Theysen, creative director of Dawn of War 4 at King Art Games, recently told IGN that Dawn of War’s original protagonist Gabriel Angelos won’t be returning for their sequel. “That was actually one of the decisions we made relatively early. We don’t want Gabriel Angelos in the game,” he said.

Gabriel Angelos was the star of the story campaign in the original Dawn of War, though he didn’t feature in all of the sequels and expansions. If you played Dark Crusade as the Blood Ravens they were commanded by Davian Thule, and in Soulstorm by Indrick Boreale. For Dawn of War 2 you played a nameless force commander known only as “Commander,” though Angelos did eventually appear at the head of your reinforcements, and took over in Dawn of War 3—though the less said about that the better.

“For us, he felt a little bit overpowered,” Theysen said. “It’s a little bit weird to have either this slightly overpowered character from the beginning of the game, which is a little bit off, or you have to do, ‘Oh, well, he lost his memory and he lost all his power,’ which is also a weird trope.”

Related articles

The trailer for Dawn of War 4 does show the return of other Blood Ravens. It’s narrated by Scout Sergeant Cyrus, who seems to die at the end—though if he stays that way I’ll be shocked. (He probably crosses the Rubicon Primaris, though if he became a dreadnought that would be neat too.) The chapter’s Chief Librarian Jonah Orion is back as well.

“We basically said we want more ‘normal’ heroes,” Theysen explained. “So we have Cyrus and we have Jonah coming back, but they’re all, power level-wise, more similar to normal units.”

Watch On

Which is neat. Dawn of War 4 does seem like it’s toning down the disparity between wildly OP characters and paper-thin troops in Dawn of War 3 to return to something more like the original, where your heroes were badass, but if you didn’t keep an eye on them could suddenly find themselves in a world of hurt.

As our Fraser Brown said after a few hours going hands-on with Dawn of War 4, “Blood Ravens—even their Terminators—ain’t immortal. The relentless green tide can whittle them down, and the orks have some mean machines that can crack open space marines like tins of beans.”

The creators of Deadly Premonition and No More Heroes are releasing a typically over-the-top roguelite ‘fever dream’ next month

HOTEL BARCELONA – Xbox Launch Trailer | Coming September 26, 2025 – YouTube

Watch On

Back in 2019, Goichi “Suda51” Suda and Hidetaka “Swery65” Suehiro announced a forthcoming horror game under typically bizarre circumstances. As Fraser reported at the time, the duo—who are responsible for No More Heroes and Deadly Premonition respectively—basically brainstormed the project during a livestream. At the time they decided it would be an indie horror game called Hotel Barcelona. The PS2 game Siren would be an inspiration, and Devolver would publish.

Six years later, it turns out Hotel Barcelona is an actual game that will see an actual release next month—on September 25 to be exact—but it has clearly evolved away from those early ideas. For one, Devolver isn’t publishing: the relatively new Cult Games will handle that duty instead. Another big departure, at least to my eyes, is that Hotel Barcelona doesn’t look scary. It’s a 2.5D sidescrolling action roguelite set in a bizarre hotel, with all the surrealist flair you would expect from this duo. If you came away from that 2019 livestream thinking “great, two of the weirdest fellows in games are making a Siren tribute”, then maybe keep your expectations in check.

The trailer above is ample evidence that Suda51’s affection for 1980s edgelord trappings remains undiminished, but as for the basic gist of what you’re doing in Hotel Barcelona, I’ll let the publisher’s note do the talking. “With trippy anime-style visuals designed by the artists behind genre-defying Japanese hits like Chainsaw Man, Persona, and Final Fantasy VII Remake, try to escape this luxury getaway turned psychedelic nightmare and defeat the hotel’s bloodthirsty new management – tough as nails brutes, psychopaths, and criminals from all over America. Suffice to say, you won’t be alive by checkout.”

The precision-oriented combat comes with an interesting twist: as the protagonist Justine becomes drenched in the blood of her enemies she’ll build towards a special attack that unleashes Dr. Carnival, who is a “deranged murderer” she happens to share her brain with. The game will be split across seven areas, each inspired by different sub-genres of horror. There’s also three-player online co-op and PvP invasions.

Hotel Barcelona releases September 26 and it’s on Steam now. It’s also launching on Xbox Game Pass.

This character pack adds three new characters to Marvel: Crisis Protocol. Echo excels at hit-and-run tactics, being able to launch surprise attacks and slip away. Ronin’s
powerful martial skills makes him a great up-close and personal fighter. Tigra uses her mystical feline reflexes and strength to take down her foes. This pack is great for players looking to add characters that close the distance and bring the fight to enemies.

Marvel Rivals devs approved to make “original” heroes & fans are fuming

by admin August 19, 2025

Marvel Rivals’ creative director has just revealed that the game has permission to add new original characters in the roster. This news hasn’t immediately gone down well with the community.

The Marvel Rivals roster is always expanding, as developers continue to incorporate new characters from the franchise’s comics and movies into every season.

While characters added to the game have so far been mostly icons that a lot of players grew up seeing in other media, we’ve also seen the game not shying away from introducing more obscure characters, such as Luna Snow and Jeff the Land Shark.

As it now turns out, according to an interview with MP1st, NetEase has essentially been given permission to develop “original characters” for the game, so there’s a chance that we’ll be seeing completely new faces joining the roster.

Marvel Rivals could be adding original characters to the roster

netease / marvelPhoenix and Blade are the newest characters added to the game in the current season.

In the interview, MP1st asked Guangguang if NetEase considered adding completely original heroes that may be introduced to the whole Marvel universe later.

Although the developer did not specify the details further, he did give “yes” as an answer. “We are allowed to introduce original characters in Marvel Rivals,” he claimed.

Meanwhile, the game director remained tight-lipped when asked about the development as a follow-up to the question, only saying “stay tuned” for now.

While the thought of being able to try out and play new heroes is exciting, many in the community have said they aren’t too keen on the idea of original characters being added.

A lot of the complaints come mainly from them preferring to play someone that they’re already familiar with in the franchise.

As one user put it in a post on X, “This sucks a lot. I want to play the heroes I grew up with. There are THOUSANDS of them, from A-listers to C-listers. There is no need AT ALL to create new characters when they can just use what we already have.”

“We have SO many characters that people want added, and now we’re fighting for spots with original characters? Oh no,” said another, while a different user stressed that actual Marvel characters should “take priority.”

That said, there was also an argument mentioning that introducing these kinds of characters could help fill the gaps in different roles in-game. Either way, we’ll just have to be patient for the time being and wait to see what the devs are cooking.

Marvel Rivals May Get Something No One Asked For: Original Heroes

by admin August 19, 2025

The Marvel universe is so vast that games like hero shooter Marvel Rivals and fighting game Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls already have a virtually endless bucket of characters to draw on for their growing rosters. Nevertheless, it sounds like NetEase is at least considering making its own original heroes for Marvel Rivals at some point. You know, if that was something you ever thought about.

MP1st asked Marvel Rivals director Guangyun “Guangguang” Chen if NetEase had considered adding heroes of its own to fight alongside Marvel staples like the Avengers and the Fantastic Four in a future season. After all, other Marvel projects like the MCU movies have created new characters. Would it be out of the question for Rivals to also indulge in making people up to capture an objective or push a payload? Well, Chen says that Marvel has given the team the green light to do that. While he told MP1st the team is “allowed to introduce original characters,” Chen played coy when asked if any are coming down the pipeline, merely saying “stay tuned.”

Maybe my immediate aversion to this is just because Marvel Rivals isn’t even a year old yet, and the thought that someone’s favorite comic book mainstay could get sidelined for some OC cooked up in the NetEase offices feels bad. However, Luna Snow, one of the most popular characters in Marvel Rivals, also started as an original character in the mobile game Marvel Future Fight, which has been a point of contention considering all the attention she gets in terms of cosmetics compared to fan-favorite heroes who originate from the comics. I don’t doubt some interesting heroes might come out of this, but you’re still covering the classics, NetEase, so I hope any original characters you might introduce come after you’ve spent a bit more time filling out the roster with established heroes people are still waiting for.
