A Journey Into the Heart of Labubu

A Journey Into the Heart of Labubu

by admin October 1, 2025

The day after I failed to secure a Labubu from Pop Mart’s original store, I decide to console myself with a visit to Pop Land, the company’s 10-acre theme park in central Beijing—and perhaps the clearest sign that it intends to come for Disney’s lunch. (“Our art toys are like Disney’s movies,” Wang says in A Company One of a Kind. “They use movies to reach consumers, cultivate fans, and build IP and fan communities. We do it through art toys.”)

Pop Land is about 1 percent the size of Universal Studios in Beijing and Shanghai’s Disneyland, but unlike other theme parks, it sits right by the consulate district and a few subway stops away from Beijing’s most populous business areas. It’s in a city green space, which meant that Pop Mart wasn’t allowed to move even a single tree. Instead, the company renovated an abandoned building on the property and named it Molly’s Castle. A leafy area became Labubu Adventure Forest, though it looks much brighter and more kid-friendly than Lung’s original depiction. At one end of the forest, actors put on a “Warriors Training Camp” in full-size Labubu suits.

I stop for lunch at the park’s restaurant, on the third floor of Molly’s Castle. The minute I’m seated at a table and inform the waitress I came alone, she puts a 23-inch-tall plush doll in the chair opposite me. My dining buddy is Zimomo, the male chief of the Labubu clan in the original children’s book and one of the rarest Pop Mart products sold. Throughout my lunch, other Pop Land visitors keep coming over to ask whether I bought the Zimomo doll myself and if they can take a picture of it. I feel like I’m dining with a celebrity.

Dining with Zimomo, a chieftain from the original Story of Puca book.

At the table next to me is a mother with her young daughter. I ask what brought them here. The mom tells me that her daughter, who’s turning 4 in less than a month, found and fell in love with Labubu through watching videos on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok. She thought about buying two Zimomo dolls for her daughter, but they cost $200 each on the resale market, so she’s still debating. Just the day before, she saw on social media that a friend’s daughter had a Labubu-themed birthday party, where the room was stuffed with dozens of rare Labubus. She shows me videos of the party on her phone. “Her mom paid a lot to get these,” she says.

Since I began my own Labubu hunt, I’ve known the option exists to go to a reseller, often referred to in China by the slang term huangniu (literally “yellow ox”). I heard from Dong, a Pop Mart customer since 2018 in Shanghai, that many huangniu he knows use bots that monitor social media for restock announcements and grab new merchandise the millisecond it drops. Dong has paid a small amount to join group chats where huangniu release early information. He calls himself a fenniu now—between a fan and a huangniu. He has already collected most of the Labubu products ever released, so he’s only buying new ones to sell to other fans for a profit. (Which, to me, sounds like he is a huangniu.)

Hyper Light studio Heart Machine’s next singleplayer game is launching in November, no early access, just a year and a half after it was announced

by admin September 27, 2025

In a new trailer, developer Heart Machine has revealed the release date of its new metroidvania search action game, Possessor(s). The fighting game-inspired platformer arrives on November 11, just a brisk year and a half after its June 2024 announcement.

I got a first look at Possessor(s) in action earlier this year, but was not able to try it hands on. I liked what I saw though: Earnest storytelling inspired by early aughts anime dubs, slick combat with the promise of juggling, parries, and tricky bosses, plus some gorgeous character and environment art.

POSSESSOR(S) Gameplay Overview | PS5 and PC on November 11 – YouTube

Watch On

That last bit is something I’m particularly excited about with Possessor(s): I find a lot of Metroid-style platformers can have overly abstracted, gamey environments. Hollow Knight and Silksong do a great job of avoiding this, with each area having a real tangible feeling and deep environmental storytelling.

Related articles

I also have to hand it to Metroid Dread on this front, a game that otherwise left me cold. Possessor(s) really sells the illusion of a ruined city over its platforming gauntlets, and I’m eager to see more.

As for combat, you can only glean so much without trying something hands on, but Possessor(s) looks propulsive and fun, while it cites some exciting influences. As a reformed Smash sicko, I want to see how much a singleplayer game can deliver that feeling.

I also dig the conceit that your weapons and gear are mundane items infused with power from the ongoing demonic invasion. Guitars, computer mice, hockey sticks, and cell phones are some of the tools that have been shown off so far.

After getting so used to long lead times after game announcements, as well as the early access model—which Heart Machine opted for in its co-op roguelike, Hyper Light Breaker—it’s refreshing to see a game get announced then released in relatively short order. It’s even more impressive given that the studio is managing two projects at the same time. You can wishlist Possessor(s) on Steam ahead of its November 11 release.

World of Warcraft: Midnight’s collector’s edition lets you own the Dark Heart, but please don’t use this void relic to resurrect an all-devouring shadow god

by admin September 24, 2025

World of Warcraft: Midnight is on the horizon, and you know what that means: the time to throw money at an ostentatious collector’s edition is almost upon us.

Conveniently, Blizzard has just revealed what Midnight’s fanciest edition contains, and while I’m not vibing with it as much as I did with The War Within’s, there’s some cool stuff in here.

Here’s what you’ll get:

Related articles

Game access

  • 3 days of Midnight early access
  • 30 days of WoW game time

Physical items

  • Midnight hardcover art book
  • Midnight collector’s pin
  • Replica of the Dark Heart

Digital items

  • Housing items
  • Hopeflutter and Doomfeathers pets
  • Lightstrider Raiment and Voidstrider Raiment armour transmog sets
  • Voidlight Surger mount
  • Lightwing Dragonhawk and Voidwing Dragonhawk mounts

It looks like there will be other bits and bobs, too, including 2000 Trader’s Tender, which you can splash out with on the trading post, and a boost to level 80. The digital items will also be available in the cheaper epic edition, so the draw of the collector’s edition is all the physical items.

WoW’s art books are always great, and I still have a few of them sitting on my shelf, but for this expansion the highlight is probably the Dark Heart replica. I wouldn’t mind owning one myself, but I don’t think it holds a candle to the mighty Gryphon Rider statue from The War Within’s 20th anniversary collector’s edition.

You’ll be able to preorder the collector’s edition from October 1 via the Blizzard Gear Store in the US, where it’ll set you back a not-insignificant $140. In Europe, meanwhile, you’ll be able to get it via regional retailers.

The AirPods Pro 3 Can Read Your Heart Rate During Workouts, Without the Need of an Apple Watch

by admin September 11, 2025

Apple unveiled the new AirPods Pro 3 during its “awe-dropping” event Tuesday. The latest iteration of the Pro earpods has improved noise cancellation, the ability to translate other languages in real time, better and clearer sound quality, and water resistance, so it can handle your sweatiest workouts. But the AirPods Pro’s newest standout feature is its ability to read your heart rate using a small sensor implanted in the earpiece.

That means during your daily walks or workouts, your AirPods will be able to capture your heart rate using a unique infrared light sensor and a new on-device AI model that tracks heart rate and calories burned. All this data will be tracked in Apple’s Fitness app.

Additionally, the new AirPods will also give you access to Workout Buddy, a fitness feature that uses Apple Intelligence to collect your workout data, fitness history and more to personalize your workout experience. So if you’re going for a walk or run, these AirPods will function like a coach, motivating you during your workout. If you’re already an Apple Fitness Plus member, you’ll be able to use these AirPods to view your real-time performance metrics like heart rate, calories burned, Burn Bar and close the Move ring on screen.

The addition of the heart rate sensor took me by surprise, since these types of sensors are commonly used on wearables around the wrist, like the Apple Watch, or as a smart ring. However, it does make me wonder how accurate or in sync the data will be if someone owns both the AirPods Pro 3 and an Apple Watch. Now that both can record your workouts, it will be interesting to see how it plays out as people use them in the real world.

The Apple AirPods Pro 3 are now available for preorder and will hit stores next Friday, Sept. 19. Pricing starts at $249 (£219, AU$429).

All Pollip Heart locations in Silksong

by admin September 6, 2025

You’ll have to leave this to the end of your adventure in Shellwood.

Published: Sep 5, 2025 01:50 pm

Finding all the Pollip Hearts for the Rite of the Pollip quest is difficult. You might think the quest should be easy just because you get it from Greyroot early in your adventures through Shellwood, but the only way to complete it is by clearing the boss in the area.

Let’s go through the preparations you need to complete the Pollip Hearts quest. First, defeat Shellwood’s boss, Sister Splinter, to find a room where you’ll unlock the wall-jumping powers of Cling Grip. You can find this boss by navigating up and right of Greyroot’s room until you get to the right edge of Shellwood, from where you’ll start going up and left.

With Cling Grip, it’s time to start looking for Pollip Hearts. Greyroot says you need to “seek out the purple blooms,” and inside them, you’ll find the hearts. If you want hints instead of all the answers at first, I have one for you. Look for little purple flowers on the walls and for rooms or areas with floating purple petals. If you see either or both, you’re very close to a purple bloom with a Pollip Heart.

The blooms that contain Pollip Hearts are big purple flowers attached to walls. Only one of them will be in each area. To extract their heart, simply hit it with your Needle until they burst, which will cause them to drop a Pollip Heart on the ground, marked by a purple glow. Interact with the glowing item to collect it.

Pollip Hearts map

Here’s the map with all Pollip Heart locations. Their spots are numbered so you can reference them with their specific locations in the article section following the map. You don’t need to pick them in that order.

All Pollip Heart locations in Hollow Knight: Silksong are marked by yellow arrows. Screenshot and edit by Destructoid

Pollip Heart #1

This Pollip Heart is near the entrance to Shellwood. Screenshot by Destructoid

This Pollip Heart is the closest one to the bottom right entrance to Shellwood, which doesn’t mean you can grab it early. The only way to reach this platform is by using Cling Grip to jump on the wall on the top right of the room. Once you’re there, simply hit the blossom to get a Pollip Heart.

Pollip Heart #2

This Pollip is also close to the entrance. Screenshot by Destructoid

You can grab this Pollip Heart without Cling Grip in the room to the left of the entrance of Shellwood. Go all the way to the left, climb the platforms, then head right until you find a series of platforms that will lead you upward to where you’ll find the purple blossom. As usual, hit the flower and collect the Heart.

Pollip Heart #3

Complete this tricky jumping puzzle to get this Pollip Heart. Screenshot by Destructoid

This Pollip Heart is really tricky to reach. You must bounce on a series of white flowers that make a path upward, where you’ll spot a purple blossom. To bounce on a flower, jump toward it, and press down and the attack button to swing your needle below you. This will propel Hornet upward and close to the next flower, where you’ll do the same until you’re high enough to reach the blossom.

While you can try to hold the jump button to float between flowers, I found it easier to do all the attacks in a row because floating made me overthink and overcalculate Hornet’s movements. If you’re struggling with floating, try just finding a good attacking pace to reach the Pollip Heart.

Pollip Heart #4

You’ll need a lot of wall jumping for this one. Screenshot by Destructoid

The fourth purple boom with a Pollip Heart is close to where you kill Sister Splinter and get the Cling Grip. If you go to the room marked on the map, you’ll see that the path to this Pollip Heart is like a simple vertical platforming puzzle. Go up and all the way to the left, where you’ll drop from a ledge and move right to find the purple blossom.

Pollip Heart #5

This Pollip is deep into Shellwood. Screenshot by Destructoid

You can get this Pollip right after Pollip Heart #4. It’s in the center room of Shellwood, and you can get to this spot by jumping on the walls to the far left of the room, as if you were leaving to the right of it, next to its right exit. Go left as soon as you’re about half of the room’s height, and you’ll see a wall with purple flowers on it. Cling and slide on it, hold left, and you’ll be on a platform with this purple bloom to collect its heart.

Pollip Heart #6

Break the vine wall on the bottom left to find this Pollip Heart. Screenshot by Destructoid

The last Pollip Heart is only accessible via Bellhart. To get to Bellhart, exit Shellwood from the top right, also to the right of where you killed Sister Splinter. Once you’re in the upper part of Bellhart, start dropping down carefully to avoid the huge bell bugs. When the big drops end, go all the way to the left, and you’ll find a passage that will take you back to Shellwood, but that you couldn’t access before.

Keep going to the right while doing the platforming section with the spikes. Going through the bottom part of this area, you’ll find a vine wall with purple flowers. Jump toward it, destroy the vines, and you’ll find the last purple bloom to collect its Pollip Heart.

Rite of the Pollip reward

Pollip Pouch will help you deal some extra damage. Screenshot by Destructoid

With all six Pollip Hearts, go back to Greyroot in the bottom left of Shellwood, as marked on the map in this article. Speak to it twice and you’ll trade your Pollips for a Pollip Pouch. The Pollip Pouch is a charm you can equip in the blue slot. It applies a poison effect to your tools.

In my case, the Straight Pins I used to hit enemies would poison them and make them take passive damage four times after they got hit. Essentially, it’s a small attack boost to your Tools. This means that your normal Needle attacks, unfortunately, don’t apply poison with Pollip Pouch, since the Needle is a weapon, not a tool.

If you want to make your Needle stronger, you’ll have to upgrade it at Pinmaster Plinney.

Billionaire Ray Dalio Links Bitcoin’s Rise to ‘Debt-Fueled Heart Attack’ in U.S.

by admin September 3, 2025

In brief

  • Ray Dalio said the U.S. is risking a “debt-fueled heart attack”
  • The value of money would be negatively affected if the Federal Reserve is eventually forced to intervene in the bond market.
  • He compared digital assets to hard currencies.

The U.S. economy is staring down a debt-fueled heart attack within the next few years, but that will likely buoy cryptocurrency prices, according to veteran asset manager Ray Dalio.

In an interview with the Financial Times, the Bridgewater Associates founder linked a rise in the price of digital assets and gold to America’s overwhelming debt burden, which isn’t improving, according to a transcript of the conversation that he posted to X on Wednesday.

The U.S. government is spending more money than it’s taking in, while servicing enormous amounts of debt. And as the government borrows more to cover budget shortfalls, while managing its existing burden, creditors could eventually cause trouble, Dalio said.

Creditors will sell U.S. debt as they grow worried about its ability to function as a store of value, he said. That will likely put the Federal Reserve in a tough position, Dalio added, where it has to decide between rising interest rates and a debt default crisis or printing money to buy debt and “try to hold real interest rates down, which will lower the value of money.”

The billionaire, who foresaw the 2008 financial meltdown, described it as the “traumatic last phase” of a “big debt cycle,” where over the course of history, excessive debt has culminated in an economic contraction and systematic crisis.

To that point, Dalio said that deregulation isn’t a threat to governments’ use of fiat currencies in stabilizing economies or facilitating international trade. It is rather unhealthy debt levels, he said, that are eroding the status of currencies like the greenback across several sovereigns.

“I do see the dollar and the other reserve currency governments’ bad debt situations as threatening to their appeals as reserve currencies and storeholds of wealth, which is what has been contributing to the rises in gold and cryptocurrency prices,” he said.

Bitcoin and gold have surged this year. The precious metal’s price has increased 38% year-to-date, hitting an all-time high of $3,530 per ounce Wednesday, according to Trading Economics. Bitcoin’s price has increased 20% to $112,000 over the same period, according to crypto data provider CoinGecko.

Dalio’s latest assessment of the U.S. economy follows the passage of the GENIUS Act, a federal framework for stablecoins. Dalio said that a decline in the purchasing power of U.S. Treasuries “shouldn’t produce any systematic risk” for them, if they are well regulated.

Dalio said cryptocurrencies resemble hard currencies, partly due to their so-called tokenomics. Bitcoin’s total supply, for example, is capped at 21 million, while the government can theoretically print an unlimited amount of money.

“Crypto is now an alternative currency that has its supply limited, so, all things being equal, if the supply of dollar money rises and/or the demand for it falls, that would likely make crypto an attractive alternative currency,” he said.

In late July, Dalio urged investors to allocate 15% of their portfolios to Bitcoin and gold. It’s a macroeconomic hedge amid increasing risks in bond and equity markets, he said.

Dalio expressed a preference for gold, arguing that a central bank is unlikely to adopt the leading cryptocurrency by market capitalization as a reserve currency. Still, the outlook for some fiat currencies is bleak, he said in the interview with the Financial Times.

“I think that most fiat currencies, especially those with large debts, will have problems being effective storeholds of wealth and will go down in value relative to hard currencies,” he said, pointing to parallels between the coming years and two periods in the 20th century.

8 months after moving on from Helldivers 2, Johan Pilestedt returns to thank everyone for welcoming Xbox divers into the fold: ‘All the stories I read make my heart sing’

by admin August 30, 2025

One nice thing about Helldivers 2 is that you can join random sessions with strangers all night and never find a bad egg. Emerge from the cryostasis transportation pod on another diver’s ship and you’re likely to be greeted with a salute, handshake, or hug emote. That’s just how Helldivers roll.

The community’s been on its extra-best behavior this week with an uptick of fresh recruits, as Helldivers 2 became the first Sony-published game to come to Xbox. It’s been one big welcoming party: Xbox players are sounding off on Reddit to thank the veterans helping them, walking them through confusing missions, and not freaking out when they accidentally blow the whole squad up. I’ve been playing with my fiancée every night this week, and it’s been fun to join Xbox lobbies and show them the ropes (insist on driving the car and then flipping it repeatedly).

The wholesome surge has been so nice to watch that Johan Pilestedt, Arrowhead’s chief creative officer who left the Helldivers 2 team in January to work on a new game, popped back into the Helldivers subreddit to thank community members with his first post in over a year.

Related articles

“Over the last couple of days I’ve seen so many comments from the new players joining the community and they are truly wonderful and inspiring. That so many are shocked by how kind and empathic this community is, shows that we need more kindness in our digital lives,” wrote Pilestedt.

“I want to say, on behalf of everyone that gave the better part of a decade to make Helldivers, that we truly appreciate all of you. From the veterans of Malevelon Creek (o7), to those that fought on Meridia, defended Super Earth and held EotS for the way you have treated and helped the new recruits joining from Xbox and elsewhere.”

Watch On

While he’s still involved with the game as studio leadership, Pilestedt has relinquished his day-to-day Helldivers duties to game director Mikael Eriksson and Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani. He’s directing Arrowhead’s next game, which is still a big mystery.

“All the stories I read make my heart sing—this unity and friendship is why I make games and I look forward to a decade of Helldivers with you all.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

“Now go roleplay space fascists!” he concluded.

The Xbox release of Helldivers 2 coincided with a special Halo 3: ODST-themed warbond with two armor sets and four Halo guns faithfully recreated in Super Earth’s image. The next major update comes next week, introducing underground bug missions and a new Terminid wyvern monstrosity.

Best Heart Rate Monitors (2025), WIRED Tested and Reviewed

by admin August 25, 2025

FAQS

We tested and recommend all of the heart rate monitors below, which do a pretty impeccable job. But what do all these terms mean?

Heart rate zones: If someone tells you they’ve been doing 80/20 training, they’ve been doing heart rate zone-based workouts. Heart rate zones are an easy way to break down your range of effort during exercise. Zones go from 1 to 5, with 5 indicating working at 90 to 100 percent of your maximum heart rate. Zone 2 represents training at 60 to 70 percent of maximum heart rate and represents light training. 80/20 training is intended to build endurance and means that 80 percent of your runs should be in Zone 2. If your heart rate monitor doesn’t tell you your zone, you can calculate it using Polar’s simple tool.

Maximum heart rate: Some monitors can inform you of your maximum heart rate, which is the number of beats your heart can reach during exercise. This is useful for knowing when you’re training at peak intensity and can be used to create heart rate zones. Factors like your age and fitness level can influence what that maximum heart rate will be. You can generate an estimate of your maximum heart rate by simply subtracting your age from 220 and use that at a starting point.

VO2 max: The term VO2 max stands for maximum rate of oxygen your body can consume during exercise; the higher the better. It provides a useful indicator of your ability to sustain intense effort for long periods. Calculating this accurately is done in lab conditions, so heart rate monitors and watches often use their own algorithms to approximate that lab testing.

Heart rate variability: Heart rate variability measures the intervals between heart beats and is measured in milliseconds. High HRV readings are considered better than lower ones, because it means that the body is responding in a resilient way to stress. However, your HRV readings can differ widely from one person to another because they can be influenced by age, fitness level, or even when the measurement was taken.

Resting heart rate: This is the number of times your heart beats in one minute when at rest, which is a simple indicator of your current level of cardiovascular fitness and general well-being. Typically, your heart rate is supposed to sit anywhere from 60 to 100 bpm at rest. A low resting heart rate is associated with athletes, because the heart has been trained to be more efficient. But an uncharacteristically low or high RHR could mean that something is not quite right.

Calories burned: A heart rate monitor looks at your effort based on your heart rate and uses the company’s own algorithms to offer an indicator of how many calories you’ve burned during a workout. Heart rate is one of the strongest, if not the strongest indicators of effort, which means a heart rate monitor is one of the most accurate ways to get this information.
