Rockstar Just Made 65,000 GTA 6 Fans Panic For No Reason

by admin September 20, 2025

In the span of about 20 seconds and with just a single Discord ping, Rockstar Games got 65,000+ people, nearly all of whom are waiting for Grand Theft Auto 6‘s launch, very excited and then crushed their hopes, dreams, and happiness.

On September 19, at precisely 3:20 p.m. EST, Rockstar Games posted a single message in the GTA Online section of the company’s official Discord server. The message was simply Rockstar Games acknowledging a bug involving a GTA Online weekly challenge that was supposed to unlock a piece of in-game clothing for those who completed it, but wasn’t working properly. Pretty basic GTA Online update. But for some reason, Rockstar Games followed that message up with an “@here.” They did this in a server with 68,097 members. Uh oh!

©Kotaku / Rockstar Games

For those who don’t use Discord, dropping “@here” pings everyone in the server channel unless they specifically opt out of notifications. And most people don’t do that, especially not in Rockstar’s Discord server, where desperate fans cling to the hope that at any time, the studio could drop a new trailer for GTA 6.  Rockstar Games has also not really done this before. So that random “@here” instantly caused around 68,000 fans to freak the fuck out. Making matters worse is that for many, myself included, the notification simply appeared as “Rockstar Games – @here” with no further context.

I’ll fully admit that when I first saw it, I assumed the company was making some big random announcement about GTA 6. Instead, what I found when I opened Discord was a lot of confused, sad, and angry fans who weren’t sure why Rockstar had done this to them all. “Why!” “Whattt?” “Shut up!” “WTF?!” “No GTA 6??” “Stop it!” and “HOLY SHIT WHY” were just some of the hundreds and hundreds of messages that whizzed by my eyes when I opened Discord shortly after the ping.

I’ve reached out to Rockstar Games about the Discord ping and why it decided to do this. But whatever the reason, it won’t change the fact that for a brief and chaotic moment, 65,000+ people went wild thinking they were about to watch a new GTA 6 trailer or get news of another delay. Nope. There’s no new trailer or other big announcement, and GTA 6 is still set to launch in May of next year.

Mario Kart World’s NPCs are secretly stealing cars in their own game of miniature GTA

by admin September 19, 2025

It turns out Mario Kart World’s NPCs are basically playing their own game of Grand Theft Mario.

A video shared on social media by Supper Mario Broth explains how NPCs can actually steal a car belonging to another character.

Specifically, the video shows a green Shy Guy parking a vehicle and walking away. A Toad NPC then saunters up to the vehicle, jumps inside, and drives off, leaving the oblivious Shy Guy plodding down the road. Incredible!

Mario Kart World Review – Is It The Perfect Launch Title?Watch on YouTube

Supper Mario Broth explained there are a few scenarios for the Shy Guy after this: the NPC will either keep walking until the player leaves and they despawn; they’ll enter a building to despawn; or they’ll steal a car themselves.

In Mario Kart World, NPCs will park their cars, exit them, and walk around. However, the game does not actually keep track who each car belongs to. As such, a different NPC than the owner may drive away with a car, seemingly stealing it. pic.twitter.com/KTXsDHXwiL

As much as Mario Kart World is full of these little details designed to make its open world feel alive, jacking cars seems very un-Nintendo for such a family-friendly game. Children, avert your eyes!

Have you spotted NPCs stealing cars in Mario Kart World?

Rockstar break GTA 6 silence with subtle title update

by admin September 15, 2025

Rockstar Games have broken their months-long silence on Grand Theft Auto 6 with a slight update to the name of the game that you may have missed.

The Grand Theft Auto developers are notoriously difficult to get new information from. Rockstar hasn’t shown anything off to the public at events like Gamescom or Summer Games Fest for a number of years, and any announcement is on their terms.

They proved that back in May by announcing a delay to Grand Theft Auto 6’s release date. The GTA devs shifted the release from Holiday 2025 to May 26, 2026, and dropped the long-awaited second trailer in the aftermath.

Since then, Rockstar have gone back to being ultra secretive about Grand Theft Auto 6. They’ve not even dropped a mention about it in GTA Online. However, they have broken their silence.

Subtle GTA 6 title change mentioned by Rockstar

As spotted by Rockstar Intel, the Grand Theft Auto developers posted a job listing for a Lead Software Engineer in Data Engineering at Rockstar New York.

Article continues after ad

In the listing, the game developers note that their upcoming title “will be the largest game launch in history.” That is obvious, but they also referred to the game as GTA 6 for the first time.

Article continues after ad

“With the continued growth of Grand Theft Auto Online and the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6,” the listing reads. As Rockstar Intel points out, the developers have regularly used Grand Theft Auto VI to this point, not the number six. They have also just referred to the game as “a new Grand Theft Auto.”

They also noted that it could very well be a mistake from whichever recruiter posted the listing for Rockstar. Yet, you would assume that it would at least be looked over with a fine-tooth comb because of how rabid Grand Theft Auto fans are.

It’s not like Rockstar are going to wedge a mention of Vice City or even Jason and Lucia into the title anytime soon, but the slight tweak is noteworthy.

Ghost Of Yotei Studio Still ‘Hungover’ From Celebrating GTA 6 Delay

by admin September 10, 2025

How much champagne do you charge to the company credit card when GTA 6 mercifully shifts out of your release window? Which celebrity will star in Cyberpunk 2? And what game are Helldivers 2‘s devs working on next? Welcome to another edition of Morning Checkpoint, Kotaku‘s daily roundup of gaming news and culture.

People are buzzing about Jump Space, the sci-fi co-op adventure about blowing up spaceships with friends. It comes to Early Access next week and already has an impressive post-launch roadmap of updates lined up. How many more cool ship games will we get before Starfield‘s next expansion arrives?

It was a good day in the Sucker Punch offices when GTA 6 delayed

Ghost of Yotei is one of the biggest game releases of the fall, at least now that GTA 6 has been delayed to May 2026. Creative director Nate Fox was asked about that moment in a new rapid-fire interview with MinnMax (via VGC). “When GTA 6 was delayed, did the entire studio pop some champagne?” host Ben Hanson asked. “We’re all still hungover. Multi-month hangover,” Fox responded. “That was a great day.”

Yotei‘s October 2 release date was announced before Rockstar revealed its delay, locking in its fate one way or the other. Fortune favors the bold. Now lots of games that were waiting to come out until 2026 to escape the GTA 6 gravity well are faced with a new conundrum: get out ahead of it or come out later in the year and risk stumbling into a second GTA 6 delay?

Helldivers studio’s next game will have a Destiny-style social hub

But what is it, exactly? Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani seemed to be speaking off the cuff when he responded to a fan in the game’s Discord who requested a place where Helldivers 2 players can hang out in between drops. “It’s on the feature list for the next one,” Jorjani teased. What next one? Helldivers 3? Nope.

“This was about our next game. Not HD3,” he added on Reddit. Some fans are wondering if it’s a nod to the studio’s isometric fantasy multiplayer series Magicka. The studio has already confirmed that its next project, whatever it ends up being, won’t be published by Sony.

Fans think GTA 6 parody website names have leaked

The open-world blockbuster is still over six months away, but in the meantime players may have some fresh teases to parse. What seem like in-game website names appear to have been registered as real internet domains by Take-Two back in May. They include what-up.app, rydeme.app, and wipeoutcornskin.com. I don’t know if we’re ready for GTA 6 in the post-internet, algorithmic slop phase of lampooning pop culture.

Will Johnny Silverhand return in Cyberpunk 2?

Because Keanu Reeves would be happy to do it if CD Projekt Red wants him back. “Absolutely,” he told IGN when asked about reprising the role. “I’d love to play Johnny Silverhand again.” Effectively a virtual ghost in the first game, there’s no reason Silverhand would need to come back in a sequel, but also nothing precluding it either. Cyberpunk 2 is set to return to Night City but also take players to a new location likened to “Chicago gone wrong.”

Satoru Iwata laughed when he heard about trying to sell Animal Crossing in America

Veteran Nintendo localizer Leslie Swan told Time Extension that’s how the former president of the company reacted when she told him they were translating the cozy sim. “He just laughed and said, ‘I don’t know how you’re going to do this.’ And it’s true, just everything in that game was so specific to Japan,” she said.

Long-time producer Takashi Tezuka was not confident either. “[Tezuka] basically said to me, ‘We’d like to have you localize it’ and I said, ‘Sure.’ But then he said, ‘No, Leslie, I’m not sure you understand, it’s going to be difficult.’” Swan recalled. “And I kept having to assure him that we would make it happen.” Decades later, the franchise is now one of the best selling in the world.

GTA 6 leak reveals potential in-game sites that parody Uber and more

by admin September 9, 2025

A number of in-game websites and apps which may well be a part of GTA 6 have leaked, and they appear to parody the likes of Uber and WhatsApp.

A post on the GTA Forums from insider Tez2 (known for their Rockstar tips) revealed they had come across “domains all registered on May 27 under Take-Two’s nameservers” which they believe relate to Grand Theft Auto 6.

To see this content please enable targeting cookies.

Manage cookie settings

“These domains could be in-game sites that [Rockstar] may redirect to 6’s page later on, like what we’ve seen with 4 and 5,” they wrote.

These sites are:

  • what-up.app
  • rydeme.app
  • buckme.app
  • leonidagov.org
  • brianandbradley.com
  • hookers-galore.com
  • wipeoutcornskin.com

What-up.app is a name you may recognise. This chap was uncovered in the GTA 6 leaks from 2022, and is supposed to be the copycat for Whatsapp.

Some in the GTA Forums have surmised that rydeme will be an Uber-like app, and buckme could be something along the lines of a Patreon or PayPal equivalent (though, my first thought was some kind of deliverable bucking bronco like rodeo stall you find in Western bars). Hookers-galore seems pretty self explanatory.

Some have speculated that brianandbradley.com, meanwhile, is a spin on Florida law firm Morgan and Morgan, which despite where my Rockstar trained mind went, is unrelated to Red Dead’s Arthur Morgan. Anyway, I had a quick google, and apparently historically Morgan and Morgan is considered a firm focused on personal injury, medical malpractice and class action lawsuits. Personal injury sounds like something many GTA characters will be dealing with, so that would fit.

Again, there is nothing official to say these apps and websites will definitely appear in GTA 6, but it doesn’t seem unreasonable to imagine Jason and Lucia using an app to call a car to take them across Vice City.

Devolver boss calls GTA 6 an “AAAAA game” in latest attack on human dignity

by admin September 6, 2025

Not long before joining Rock Paper Shotgun, I wrote a feature for Edge magazine about the origins of the very silly term “AAA game”. The overall conclusion I came to is that “AAA game” is possibly a boardroom-level borrowing from the credit rating industry and Hollywood, and that it has little meaning beyond “most expensive/biggest”.

It’s a bauble casually excreted by pinstriped cats wallowing in jacuzzis sometime in the mid-90s, for the benefit of the investor class. But in much the same way that any fleck of dust can become a pearl, or at least a larger clump of dust, so the term has attracted additional meanings and significance over the ensuing years, partly because game journalists like myself keep taking it seriously.

My interviewees talked about triple-A’s association with the shift to polygonal 3D graphics, with certain genres such as the open world, with games like Shenmue 3 and Final Fantasy VII, and with exclusive hiring practices that require “triple-A experience” and thus have an unavoidable bias, given that “triple-A” studios have often been staffed predominantly by people of a certain race, gender and background.

These more specific developments aside, triple-A has shed an A to produce the retrospectively beloved genre of “AA games”, aka grainy noughties shooters with a gimmick, and also sprouted additional As. Concluding the Edge write-up, I touched briefly and humorously on Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot’s coining of “AAAA game” in a brazen attempt to mindfuck people complaining about the delayed release and pricing of Skull and Bones.

As sure as the sparrows fly south for winter, another executive has now gazumped Guillemot. Speaking to Ian Games (thanks Percy Gamer for spotting) about the dark art of competing with other publishers for release dates, Devolver co-founder Nigel Lowrie has described GTA 6 as an “AAAAA game”. Here’s the complete sentence:

“I mean, there are AAA games and then there’s AAAA games and I’d argue that Grand Theft Auto is potentially the AAAAA game, it’s just bigger than anything else both in the scope and scale of the game and the kind of cultural impact that it has and the attention it demands.”

Lowrie isn’t the first to try this, admittedly. CD Projekt Red’s investor relations VP Karolina Gnaś has already been there and bought the T-shirt. But Gnaś was poking fun at Ubisoft’s “AAAA game” claim at the time, whereas Lowrie seems to be in earnest.

Moreover, he seems to think that “AAAA game” is everyday parlance now. I, for one, was not consulted about this, but I can see why The Industry might be in a hurry to leave AAAA behind. To my knowledge, the only card-carrying AAAA games besides the ailing Skull and Bones are Beyond Good & Evil 2, the current record-holder for longest-serving vapourware, and Microsoft’s Perfect Dark reboot, which was recently cancelled. If AAA means “most expensive/biggest”, AAAA basically seems to mean “doomed”.

The whole circus is worth following inasmuch as it’s a crude illustration of the continuing drive to appease investors who are not content with the “maturation” of returns, and are always looking for the next Level Up. Still, I realise the advanced financial language may be confusing to ordinary humans, so I’ve put together this quick-and-dirty cheatsheet for both existing A-based videogame lifeforms and those likely to emerge the next time an executive joins an earnings call. Here you go:

AAA – GTA 3

AAAA – Skull and Bones

AAAAA – GTA 6

AAAAAA – GTA 6 on max settings

AAAAAAA – GTA 6 + Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy

AAAAAAAA – GTA 6 + GTA 3

AAAAAAAAA – GTA 6 + Skull and Bones

AAAAAAAAAA – GTA 6: Ultimate Whale’s Edition with fully operational Quantum Field simulation and digital rights management supplied by orbital self-guided “Blundershut & Custard” Clockwork Plasma Cannon array

AAAAAAAAAAA – GTA 6 + gravitational implosion of known universe

A – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with Gabe, and the Word was Gabe. The same was in the beginning with Gabe. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

AA – [DESYNCHRONIZED]

AAA – GTA 3 again

PS. I’ve just noticed that Edge feature is on Gamesradar now, if you fancy a read.

Watch out Skull and Bones, industry veteran believes GTA 6 will be the first "AAAAA game"

Watch out Skull and Bones, industry veteran believes GTA 6 will be the first “AAAAA game”

by admin September 5, 2025

Devolver Digital co-founder Nigel Lowrie believes that Grand Theft Auto 6 could potentially be the first “AAAAA game”.

Lowrie spoke with IGN on the topic of video game delays in the wake of massive releases like GTA 6 and Hollow Knight: Silksong. Yet even as games shifted release due to Silksong, Lowrie stated GTA 6 will be an industry-shaking event on a bigger scale.

“There are AAA games and then there’s AAAA games and I’d argue that Grand Theft Auto is potentially the AAAAA game,” stated Lowrie. “It’s just bigger than anything else both in the scope and scale of the game and the kind of cultural impact that it has and the attention it demands.”

Here’s the latest GTA6 trailer!Watch on YouTube

Adam Lieb – CEO of video game marketing platform Gamesight – echoed similar sentiments in the piece, noting: “I would say that GTA for the last year and a half has been a part of almost every conversation around launch dates I have heard.”

Lowrie is correct, of course. GTA 6 is positioned to be a truly monumental release, one that threatens to overshadow not just other games coming out in 2026 but prior releases throughout the history of the industry. The term AAAAA is apt to describe such a monster, though given gaming’s official first quadruple A game Skull & Bones was truly a game like no other, GTA 6 has a big task ahead of it.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.

GTA 6 Called First 'AAAAA Game' In Sign Of Industry Confidence And Panic

GTA 6 Called First ‘AAAAA Game’ In Sign Of Industry Confidence And Panic

by admin September 4, 2025

Grand Theft Auto 5 is the second best-selling game of all time. Only Minecraft beats it. No other game even comes close. So it’s not surprising that after more than a decade, people expect big things from Grand Theft Auto 6. But the growing gravity well around the game’s impending release transcends fan hype and bullish proclamations from LinkedIn-pilled industry watchers. The vibes keep intensifying to the point of bordering on desperation. GTA 6 will be huge. GTA 6 must be huge.

Out of this uniquely volatile cocktail comes statements like the following. “I mean, there are AAA games and then there’s AAAA games and I’d argue that Grand Theft Auto is potentially the AAAAA game, it’s just bigger than anything else both in the scope and scale of the game and the kind of cultural impact that it has and the attention it demands,” Devolver Digital co-founder Nigel Lowrie told IGN this week.

It was in the context of a conversation about how smaller companies navigate the minefield of modern release dates, where at any moment all of the oxygen could be sucked out of the room by bigger hits, suffocating a game’s chances of finding an audience before players even give it a try. Hardly anyone was staking out release dates for the fall until Rockstar announced that GTA 6 had been delayed to May 2026. Even now, Silksong‘s surprise release date announcement just last month drove scores of other indie games to get out of the way of its September 4 launch.

Lowrie suggested GTA 6 has the power to “blot out the sun” when it comes to attention in the gaming world. “AAAAA” isn’t just a reflection of the long-awaited open-world game’s budget, suspected to be over $1 billion, or its marketing, which by some estimates is likely to cost another half-billion. Nor is it just a testament to the consumer spending crater that will be left in the wake of its sales, projected by one analyst to be $10 billion over the life of the game, not including any new GTA Online component.

GTA 6 being the first “AAAAA game” is also a prediction about the way it will funnel humanity’s collective boredom and curiosity into a cultural singularity that trumps everything from 2023’s Barbenheimer to this year’s viral “Coldplay couple.” That’s the growing consensus at least, which grows more conventional with each passing month. And like the bond ratings that gaming’s triple-A shorthand for blockbusters is borrowed from, “AAAAA” is as much a prediction about possible futures as a measurement of current facts.

Publishers want their games to sell lots of copies and fans want those games to be great or even, in the rarest cases, life changing. But with GTA 6 there’s as much a hope that it will be transformative as there is a sense of potential panic if it’s not. After years of being in the driver’s seat, console gaming has stalled out. While industry boosters tout the size of the overall gaming market compared to Hollywood and sports, growth over the last five years was effectively flat. Social hubs like Roblox surging in popularity is great for their investors, but another sign that traditional gaming is on the back foot.

Even outside of the numbers, the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S console cycle has felt surprisingly unexceptional. There have been plenty of great games, sure, but nothing hardware-defining the way some of the biggest hits from the second half of the PS4 and Xbox One era felt. Fans searching for that unmistakable feeling of “next-gen” magic from years past are left to comb over Digital Foundry forensics like lapsed believers threatened by a crisis of faith.

Consoles increasingly struggle to distinguish themselves in much the same way smartphones keep adding more camera lenses to convince you you’re upgrading more than just RAM. The latest leaks suggest the new hardware from from Sony and Microsoft is just a couple of years away and will be even less of a generational leap. And why should they bother if half of their current install base won’t be updating anytime soon? I can’t wait for system architect Mark Cerny to show me how much better Joel and Ellie’s hair looks in The Last of Us Part 1 when it gets ported to PS6.

What an “AAAAA” rating for GTA 6 really means is that it’s the only game people believe can single-handedly shift those trends. Proof of what the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, the only consoles it’ll be available for at launch, are truly capable of, from cutscene-level shooting animations to mouth-watering condensation on beer bottles. A best-seller that doesn’t just move copies of the game but reignites sales in a flagging console race to once again grow the total install base. A sign, perhaps, that the most polished and sophisticated craftsmanship money can buy can once again capture the imagination as much as a crudely reskinned Cookie Clicker in Roblox.

Even if GTA 6 can shower shareholders with a historic new windfall, if it can’t do those other, grander things it’ll be the surest evidence yet that the “AAA” rating, and the aura farming it does in the video game industry hype cycle, was a junk bond status all along.

GTA Online 2025 roadmap: Leaks, DLC, and upcoming events

by admin September 2, 2025

GTA 6 may be drawing closer and closer, but GTA Online is still going strong with new missions, cars and activities hitting the streets of Los Santos on a regular basis. 2025 has been a great year for GTA Online, but there are even more events, modes, and leaked DLC updates to look forward to in the coming months.

The Money Fronts DLC gave us a lot of cool new toys to play with, but Rockstar also left some fun tidbits in the game’s files that point to even bigger additions for GTA Online’s winter 2025 update.

GTA Online Winter 2025 update

Mansions are the big selling point of the next GTA Online update. Slated for winter 2025, this GTA Online DLC will expand the housing scene with huge new properties that are worth more than just bragging rights.

Related articles

New houses may not seem like the most exciting thing, but the upcoming mansions are going to be much more valuable than the high-end apartments in the game today—and I’m not just talking about the price tag. Since GTA Online winter updates always fall in the first half of December, you can expect to close the deal on your new mansion sometime before Christmas.

Mansion locations and features

Data in the GTA Online files suggests that mansion owners can host parties and install custom arcade cabinets, among other things. Think of them like an expanded version of the Diamond Casino penthouse. Things are still subject to change, but considering Rockstar literally left files named “MANSION_TEASER” for dataminers to find, it feels like they wanted us to know at least a little bit of this info.

They’ll be brand-new buildings too, so we won’t just be moving into existing properties that we’ve been driving by for years. Leaks place the mansions on the expensive northern side of Los Santos, far away enough to avoid the hustle and bustle of the city streets but still close enough to have a nice view of the skyline.

Here’s the two locations for the upcoming property with construction props that are going to be a teaser in the future, it seems these will be entirely new buildings https://t.co/SByxYjS2oM pic.twitter.com/nAbImr0J7bJune 17, 2025

It also seems like these mansions will be purchased from a new vendor instead of the usual Dynasty 8 real estate. Datamined files mention “Prix Luxury Real Estate,” so the mansions could mark the beginning of a new series of luxury properties for players to blow their cash on.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

There may be a small teaser update before the mansions actually come to the game, since the files also mention an “exclusive discount” and that Prix Luxury Real Estate “will be in contact again when properties become available.”

GTA Online 2025 holiday events

Before we get mansions, there are the usual holiday events to look forward to. Halloween and Christmas are the big two to watch, and Rockstar has a history of adding a bunch of free stuff for these two holidays.

GTA Online Halloween 2025

GTA Online’s 2025 Halloween event will bring back all of the spooky festivities from previous years, with bonus RP and GTA$ rewards on certain Halloween-themed playlists and a few new clothing items to earn. Ghosts will also haunt the streets of Los Santos once more, and paranormal investigators can make some extra cash for snapping pictures of the wandering spirits.

Plus, Rockstar has added some new things to the game lately that hint at an even bigger Halloween celebration. Zombies have invaded Cayo Perico in the latest Survival playlist, for example, and there’s no way Rockstar doesn’t repurpose the undead hordes for other Halloween content.

At the very least, there’ll probably be bonus rewards for Cayo Perico Zombie Survival when the time comes.

GTA Online Christmas 2025

Christmas is coming back in GTA Online this December, but the snowy season doesn’t seem as exciting as the spooky season this year.

You can still expect to see all the usual festivities in GTA Online’s Christmas event, including holiday-themed outfits, free winter weaponry like snowballs and firework launchers, and festive weapon skins.

Previous holiday events like the Weasel Plaza Shootout will return as well so you can unlock their rewards if you missed out last year. On top of that, snowmen will be scattered across the map and The Yeti will rise from hibernation once more. Keep your head on a swivel too, because The Gooch will also return to terrorize the streets of Los Santos yet again.

Other than that, there’s not a whole lot of info about GTA Online’s Christmas update this year. Last year’s holiday event added some highly-anticipated vehicles like police cars, so hopefully Rockstar continues that trend this year. Even if Rockstar deems the GTA Online community to be naughty instead of nice, there will still be snowfall in San Andreas at the very least.

GTA Online age verification

Age verification has been creeping up in a bunch of online games lately, and GTA Online is next on the list according to datamined info.

References to age verification in GTA Online have been found in the game’s files, so it’s only a matter of time before you’ll have to give Rockstar some of your personal info to keep playing the game. It might seem a bit strange considering GTA Online is rated M, but just think about how many kids you hear screaming in freemode lobbies.

A preview of age assurance in-game. This is not active yet.#GTAOnline https://t.co/yw5yq1KWwB pic.twitter.com/AtcgVYvwScAugust 5, 2025

It appears that there will be multiple levels to age verification. Some age groups won’t be able to access GTA Online at all, while others can play with restricted text chat or disabled phone messages. This update is coming sooner rather than later, but it’ll come out on a region-by-region basis depending on local laws.

Zombies Return To GTA Online In New, Weirder Survival Mode

Zombies Return To GTA Online In New, Weirder Survival Mode

by admin August 29, 2025

The undead hordes are back in Grand Theft Auto Online, but they aren’t hanging out in a snowy cemetery like in last year’s Halloween event. Instead, zombies have infested the tropical island of Cayo Perico in a new mode that’s bigger and trippier than the last zombie survival mode.

On August 28, Rockstar Games officially announced (and then promptly added) a new zombie survival mode to GTA Online. Titled “Cayo Perico Zombie Survival,” this new mode transports players to the already existing tropical island of Cayo Perico to fight off waves of zombies. During the mode, which can be played solo or with three of your friends, players will encounter a wide array of undead foes, including DJ zombies and undead conquistadors. Remember when this was a gritty online crime simulator set in the same universe as Grand Theft Auto V? Anyway, here’s the trailer for the new mode:

Compared to last year’s Halloween zombies mode, this new Cayo Perico Zombie Survival is much bigger and wilder. Last year’s mode was set in one small snowy cemetery, featured a handful of zombie types, and that was it. This new mode features more enemy variety, moves players around the island to fight the undead in different spots, and just seems like a weirder and bigger thing. I guess last year’s zombie event being a massive success convinced Rockstar Games to invest more money and resources into this new undead survival mode. It sounds like this mode will be leaving on September 10, so don’t wait too long to hop back into GTA Online, earn some new exclusive rewards, and kill a bunch of zombies.

Here’s Rockstar’s official description of the mode:

Your favorite island paradise just came down with a deadly case of party fever. As if a major narcotrafficking island wasn’t dangerous enough, it’s now been overrun by the undead — and maybe it’s the drugs or the tropical climate, but this time they’ve got a whole lot weirder. Cut your way through waves of undead, including conquistadors armed with muskets, Panther Trainers and their feral pets, swarms of Splitters, and more in the new Cayo Perico Survival. Fight through these hordes and make your way to the airstrip — then pray your evacuation plane doesn’t take too long.
