Grayscale, Bitwise and Others File Updates for Spot XRP ETFs

by admin August 23, 2025

Several leading asset managers, including Grayscale, Bitwise, Canary, CoinShares, Franklin Templeton, 21Shares, and WisdomTree, filed amended proposals on Friday for their planned spot XRP exchange-traded funds.

The cluster of filings underscores the growing push from financial firms eager to win approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Analysts view the coordinated submissions as a direct response to regulatory input. “[The filings were] almost certainly due to feedback from SEC,” Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart wrote on X. “Good sign, but also mostly expected.”

The new amendments reveal adjustments in fund structures. Instead of allowing only cash creations and redemptions, the updated versions now provide for XRP or cash creations and both cash or in-kind redemptions. Market observers say these tweaks may help address concerns raised by the regulator.

Nate Geraci, president of NovaDius Wealth, emphasized the importance of the simultaneous filings. “Highly notable to see them cluster like this,” he wrote on X. “Very good sign IMO.”

Broader ETF Momentum

The SEC has not yet approved a spot XRP ETF, though both spot and futures-based proposals are being considered. Industry analysts believe the cluster of filings highlights issuers’ determination to adapt to regulatory expectations, which could eventually bring an approval closer.

Notably, BlackRock, which already manages the largest spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, has not filed for an XRP product. The company told The Block earlier this month it has no current plans to launch one.

Meanwhile, the broader ETF landscape continues to expand. Recently, VanEck filed with the SEC to launch the first exchange-traded fund built around JitoSOL, a token on the Solana blockchain. The Form S-1 filing aims to give investors access to Solana’s liquid staking market without requiring them to hold the tokens directly.

Amid Friday’s wider market rally, XRP gained 7% to trade at $3.08 at the time of publication.

Microsoft-Backed Space and Time Surges as Grayscale Debuts SXT Crypto Fund

by admin June 24, 2025

In brief

  • Crypto-focused asset manager Grayscale unveiled its Space and Time (SXT) Trust on Tuesday.
  • The Trust will give investors exposure to the Space and Time blockchain’s native token, SXT.
  • The price of SXT is up 16% over the last day.

Cryptocurrency-focused asset manager Grayscale unveiled its Space and Time Trust on Tuesday, adding to the list of crypto-centric investment products offered by issuers trying to address surging demand.

The Trust provides exposure to the Space and Time blockchain’s native token, SXT, Grayscale said Tuesday in a statement.

Space and Time is a layer-1 blockchain that aims to provide real-time database processing for smart contracts, decentralized applications and artificial intelligence tools, according to its website. The network was backed by Microsoft’s M12 Ventures fund, and is integrated within Microsoft’s Fabric data analytics platform.

SXT was recently trading at $0.076, up 16% in the past 24 hours, according to crypto markets data provider CoinGecko.

“Grayscale Space and Time Trust provides investors with access to a project that combines blockchain technology with enterprise-grade data architecture, enabling a wide range of use cases across Web 2.0 and Web 3.0,” Grayscale Head of Product and Research Rayhaneh Sharif-Askary said Tuesday, in a statement.

The Space and Time Trust, which is a private placement, is only available for daily subscription by eligible investors and institutional accredited investors, Grayscale said.

The Trust’s debut comes as crypto-focused asset managers and traditional financial services firms ramp up their investment product launches, as U.S. regulators have softened their stance on digital assets.

Since the beginning of this year, two major federal regulators of the Web3 industry—the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodities Futures Trading Commission—have shed crypto-skeptic staff members and appointed several pro-digital asset commissioners to their ranks. The agencies have also been allowing cryptocurrency executives and other experts to weigh in on ongoing regulatory reforms that could benefit their industry.

The regulatory shift has coincided with a surge in new crypto-based investment offerings in the U.S.

A variety of asset managers have introduced private trusts based on virtual tokens, with Canary Capital and Grayscale debuting products based on AXL and Optimism, respectively, within the past six months.

Meanwhile, investment firms have also flooded regulators’ desks with applications for exchange-traded funds tracking the prices of various cryptocurrencies, including meme coins such as Official Trump and Dogecoin, and altcoins like Aptos, Sui, XRP and Solana.

In 2013, Grayscale debuted its Bitcoin Trust as a private placement. Two years later, the Trust became a publicly traded fund on an over-the-counter market. The fund received approval to operate as a spot Bitcoin ETF listed on NYSE Arca in January 2024, and nowmanages more than $19 billion in assets.

Grayscale Sees Litecoin ETF by Oct, LTCN at 6% Discount

by admin May 30, 2025

Talk of a potential Litecoin ETF dominated discussion at the Litecoin Summit 2025, as industry leaders gathered in Las Vegas to explore what’s next for one of the oldest digital assets in the space.

A panel moderated by Bloomberg Intelligence’s James Seyffart homed in on exchange-traded funds, with Grayscale’s John Hoffman delivering a standout take on the strong odds of Litecoin’s ETF approval by October this year.

Hoffman, head of distribution partnerships at Grayscale, offered a clear signal that momentum is building. “LTCN is something that we filed for… I believe was February 10th of this year. That starts the statutory clock… 240 days out gets you to October 10th… That’s the final deadline,” he said, outlining the regulatory calendar.

While acknowledging early delays, he added, “I think that a October 10th timeline is… has a high level of probability,” pointing to increased predictability and confidence among market watchers.

Alongside Hoffman, the panel featured Bruno Caratori of Hashdex and Steven McClurg of Canary Capital, both of whom emphasized Hoffman’s influence and Grayscale’s continued leadership in the crypto ETF race. McClurg, in particular, expressed his confidence by revealing he’s a large holder of Grayscale’s multi-token product, GDLC.

Litecoin Trust (LTCN) and the Case for Approval

Grayscale launched its Litecoin Trust (LTCN) in August 2020, and it now manages around $200 million. Hoffman explained how it currently trades on OTC markets and is priced at a 6% discount to net asset value—something he believes could offer a compelling arbitrage opportunity if the ETF is approved.

“If you like Litecoin at fair value, you got to love it at a 6% discount,” Hoffman told the crowd, explaining that such a spread would likely vanish post-approval: “In the event that it does get approved, you’re essentially going to capture that discount, because ETFs will trade… very near intrinsic value.”

He also reflected on Grayscale’s Bitcoin trust journey, noting,

“When we were doing the Bitcoin uplisting, we literally had the approval in hand, and GBTC was still trading at a 2% discount.”

His point? Market pricing doesn’t always catch up to regulatory milestones right away, but it eventually does.

Grayscale’s ETF Expansion Strategy

Beyond LTCN, Hoffman laid out a broader strategy centered around diversified exposure through products like the Grayscale Digital Large Cap Fund (GDLC), which holds five tokens in a single basket. “We’re coming up on the 240-day clock on that in July,” he said.

Seyffart added that GDLC’s discount has already narrowed sharply, from 45% to 11% in recent months, indicating growing optimism.

McClurg backed this trend as an investor himself: “I’m a big fan of it, and… I’m actually holding it, betting that it could get approved.”

Why Litecoin?

When asked why Litecoin could be a strong ETF candidate, Hoffman pointed to its position as “digital silver,” saying it offers a unique return pattern compared to Bitcoin and Ethereum. “The digital silver, the track record, the diversification of the owner base, all of that is interesting,” he noted.

He framed LTCN’s discounted pricing as a value play: “You can buy it on exchange at fair value… or you can buy it in this trust structure at a discount… If you expect these approvals, that discount is going to collapse to zero.”

Backing this optimism, Hoffman estimated potential inflows between $400 million and $500 million, based on Litecoin’s current market cap of around $7.5 billion and a rough benchmark of 5% institutional allocation.

“The other way to do it… LTCN is $200 million, GBTC was 28 billion when we came to market… you can triangulate off of that to figure out flows.”

Changing Regulatory Winds

Perhaps the most striking commentary came as Hoffman described a shift in SEC engagement. “It went from… very unfriendly but highly predictable… to… maybe a little bit less predictable, but highly certain.”

He said recent interactions have been unusually productive, especially around Ethereum staking conversations. “The level of engagement is like nothing we’ve seen at any time before,” he said.

Seyffart wrapped up the discussion by noting that over 80 ETF filings are currently in the pipeline. But among all of them, Litecoin stood out. Caratori, echoing Hoffman, called Litecoin “the non-controversial part of this framework,” underlining its regulatory appeal.

Final Thoughts

Grayscale’s positioning of LTCN, its aggressive filing timeline, and the continued narrowing of discounts across its crypto trusts suggest that the market is preparing for a Litecoin ETF launch. If the October 10 deadline leads to approval, as Hoffman believes likely, investors holding LTCN today might find themselves well ahead of the curve.

In a space often dominated by speculation, the 2025 Litecoin Summit offered a rare dose of clarity—Litecoin’s moment in the ETF spotlight might finally be around the corner.
