Gold Outshines in 2025 as BTC-Gold Ratio Eyes Q4 Breakout

by admin September 4, 2025

Gold is the standout performer of 2025, climbing more than 33%.

That’s three times the gain of the Nasdaq 100 index and nearly double bitcoin’s (BTC) performance. In practice that means it now takes just 31.2 ounces of gold to buy one BTC, a measure known as the BTC-XAU ratio, down from 40 ounces last December.

The metal, typically used as a haven in times of financial stress, has been underpinned by falling government bond yields across major Western economies, a reflection of high debt burdens, persistent inflation concerns and slowing growth. These dynamics reinforce gold’s historical role as a store of value, and highlight why it arguably deserves to be the benchmark against which all other investments are measured.

BTCUSD/XAUUSD (TradingView)

Technical analysis shows the BTC-XAU ratio has been consolidating inside a large ascending triangle, a bullish continuation pattern that has been forming since 2017. The ratio end-2024 level mirrored peaks seen at the end of 2021, but has since corrected by about 25%. The structure now points to a potential breakout by late in the fourth quarter or early next year.

Importantly, previous cycles in this ratio saw severe drawdowns — 84% in 2019, 75% in 2020 and 78% in 2022 — before new highs were established. The current pullback is far shallower, suggesting underlying strength and keeping the long-term bullish case intact.

BTC Treads Water, Gold Extends Gain as U.S. Jobs Data Looms: Crypto Daybook Americas

by admin September 3, 2025

By Francisco Rodrigues (All times ET unless indicated otherwise)

Bitcoin BTC$111,487.44 rose just 0.6% in the last 24 hours, while the wider market as measured by the CoinDesk 20 (CD20) Index added 0.4%. The gain is overshadowed by gold’s increase and a major government bond sell-off.

The precious metal broke through $3,500 per ounce for the first time on Wednesday, helping the tokenized gold market to top $2.5 billion in value as growing bets see the Federal Reserve cutting rates this month. Gold’s advance comes as investors are wary of swelling government debt, prompting a sell-off in long-dated government bonds.

The yield on Japan’s 30-year government bond rose to a record 3.28% following similar moves in the U.S. and U.K. The U.S. 30-year Treasury yield neared 5%, while British gilts reached levels not seen since 1998, at 5.7%.

The turmoil hasn’t added fuel to the crypto market, whose price action remains muted. Deribit’s bitcoin volatility index (DVOL) is now at 38.1, its lowest level since late 2023, while capital is seemingly rotating into ether (ETH).

While spot bitcoin ETFs saw $751 million in net outflows last month, spot ether ETFs brought in a net $3.87 billion. That rotation is also being seen on-chain.

Meanwhile, a joint statement from the SEC and CFTC clarified rules for compliant spot crypto trading in the agencies’ latest effort to clear a way forward for crypto in the U.S.

The statement failed to jolt the crypto market, seemingly as investors await Friday’s U.S. jobs report. A soft reading could nudge the Federal Reserve closer to lowering rates, which would boost the market and other risk assets.

A hotter-than-expected figure, however, could damp sentiment. September has historically been a negative month for the sector, with bitcoin recording a drop of 3.29% on average for the month according to CoinGlass data. Stay alert!

Token Talk

By Oliver Knight

  • Bitcoin BTC$111,487.44 dominance, a key metric when assessing whether the crypto market is in “altcoin season” has ticked down another notch to around 58%, having been above 61% just 30 days ago.
  • The drop-off demonstrates a change in trader behavior: Typically altcoins perform poorly when BTC enters a downtrend, this time, however, many have held their value while some have outperformed the market’s largest asset.
  • Bitcoin is down by 2.91% in the past 30 days while the likes of ether (ETH) and solana SOL$210.66 are up by 21% and 27.5%, respectively.
  • While the gains have been driven by the adoption of several altcoins in corporate treasuries, they can also be attributed to a recalibration of the entire market.
  • During BTC’s rise to a $124,000 record high last month, the narrative was solely focused on bitcoin and it’s perceived correlation with the well-performing tech sector in equities.
  • It’s worth noting that in previous cycles bitcoin dominance slumped all the way down to 39%, indicating that the altcoin resurgence still has some way to go.
  • However, as liquidity flowed into BTC, several altcoins fell to record lows against bitcoin, leading to a number being “oversold” on technical indicators like relative strength index (RSI).

Derivatives Positioning

  • The total open interest across all perpetual instruments increased overnight to $114 billion, data from Laevitas show.
  • A liquidations heatmap for the BTC-USDT pair on Binance shows that bitcoin is trading between two significant liquidation clusters. Above the current price, a $90 million cluster of liquidations sits around the $112,200 mark. To the downside, the largest cluster is valued at $76.6 million, located around $110,000.
  • According to Deribit options data, the 24-hour BTC put-call volume is 26.4K contracts, with calls accounting for 51.6% of the total. The contract with the highest volume is the $108K strike price put expiring Sept. 26.
  • That’s followed by the call at a strike price of $114K expiring on the same day.
  • The funding rate heatmap on Coinglass remains positive for most assets, indicating a general bullish sentiment. The one exception is TRX, which has a negative funding rate, reflecting a -10.2% APR.

Market Movements

  • BTC is down 0.1% from 4 p.m. ET Tuesday at $111,323.58 (24hrs: +0.92%)
  • ETH is up 0.82% at $4,348.94 (24hrs: -0.89%)
  • CoinDesk 20 is up 0.59% at 4,046.65(24hrs: +1.01%)

NFL MVP, players of year, to wear ‘Gold Shield’ uniform patch

Alaina Getzenberg covers the Buffalo Bills for ESPN. She joined ESPN in 2021. Alaina was previously a beat reporter for the Charlotte Observer and has also worked for CBS Sports and the Dallas Morning News. She is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Bills quarterback Josh Allen’s status as the league’s reigning Most Valuable Player will be visible in every game he plays during the 2025 season thanks to a gold patch on his jersey.

For the first time, the NFL will further recognize the achievements of some of football’s top performers from last season. Winners of five Associated Press awards from 2024 will wear a “Gold Shield” patch inspired by the NFL Honors logo, in place of the traditional NFL Shield match, on the collar of the players’ game jerseys.

The players wearing the patch are Allen (MVP), Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley (Offensive Player of the Year), Denver Broncos CB Pat Surtain II (Defensive Player of the Year), Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels (Offensive Rookie of the Year) and Los Angeles Rams LB Jared Verse (Defensive Rookie of the Year).

NFL

The gold shield patches will be on the five jerseys for the entirety of the 2025 regular season and playoffs, beginning with Thursday night’s season opener between the Eagles and Dallas Cowboys (8:20 p.m., NBC).

Allen will debut his patch on Sunday night against the Baltimore Ravens and quarterback Lamar Jackson, who finished second in MVP voting despite being named AP First Team All-Pro. The game will mark the first time the top-two players in MVP voting from the prior season meet in a season opener since at least 1970, per Elias Sports Bureau.

This program is anticipated to continue for these awards during subsequent NFL seasons.

Wearing a gold logo to recognize players’ achievements was also introduced by MLB earlier this year. Six MLB players have gold-embellished MLB logos on the backs of their game-issued jerseys. Some of the logos from those jerseys are being used to make Topps trading cards.

This adds to the league’s patches given out to winners of the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, with those winners wearing a special patch on their jerseys for the rest of their careers.

Bitcoin Copies Gold Surge But $100,000 Worries Remain

by admin September 2, 2025

Key points:

  • Bitcoin moves in step with gold, rising toward $112,000 as gold hits new all-time highs.

  • BTC price action has yet to confirm a reversal, say commentators, with the risk of a $100,000 dip still real.

  • September seasonality means that week three of the month is all but guaranteed to see losses.

Bitcoin (BTC) surged with gold at Tuesday’s Wall Street open as bulls crunched through short liquidity.

Trader: BTC price still due $100,000 dip

Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView showed BTC/USD hitting new September highs of $111,775 on Bitstamp.

Up nearly 2% on the day, the pair joined gold as the latter hit fresh all-time highs above $3,500 per ounce. This was built on a breakout that began following the US macroeconomic data on Friday.

Bitcoin punished bearish bets, with CoinGlass data showing around $60 million of 4-hour crypto short liquidations at the time of writing.

Reacting, crypto market commentators were in “wait and see” mode.

Uploading a chart from one of its proprietary trading tools to X, Material Indicators co-founder Keith Alan stressed the importance of the 21-day simple moving average (SMA).

“Strong technical resistance lives where the 100-Day SMA has confluence at the Trend Line,” he wrote in part of accompanying commentary.

“BTC Bulls need to R/S Flip that too to prevent a Death Cross between the 21-Day/100-Day MAs.”BTC/USD one-day chart. Source: Keith Alan/X

Crypto expert Marcus Corvinus described a “critical moment” for BTC price strength.

“Price has been riding an uptrend but now sitting at the bottom of the channel,” he told X followers in part of a post.

“Heavy bearish candles closed, signaling buyers are losing grip. A breakdown here could confirm the end of the uptrend → start of a fresh downtrend.”BTC/USDT one-day chart. Source: Marcus Corvinus/X

While Corvinus said that the next daily candles would decide the fate of a potential reversal, popular trader Roman dismissed the idea that one was already playing out.

“No immediate signs of reversal here as we have lost 112k support and are looking to turn it into new resistance,” he summarized, adding that he did not “see any reason we don’t see 100k support touch in the coming days.”

As Cointelegraph reported, Roman argued at the weekend that the loss of $100,000 would end the current bull market.

Bitcoin dips “100% of the time” in September week three

Returning to historical September performance, network economist Timothy Peterson had no good news for Bitcoin proponents.

September, he stressed, is synonymous with poor performance on BTC/USD, which has delivered average losses of 3.5% since 2013.

“The monthly average is deceiving. Volatility is very high,” Peterson noted.

Tokenized Gold Market Tops $2.5B Led By Tether, Paxos Tokens

by admin September 2, 2025

As the price of gold is on the cusp of breaking its April peak, the market size of crypto tokens backed by the precious metal has already surged to fresh all-time highs.

The overall market capitalization of tokenized gold topped $2.57 billion, CoinGecko data shows, as the two leading offerings, Tether’s XAUT and Paxos’ PAXG tokens, saw sizable inflows recently. Both tokens’s are designed to track the price of gold and are backed by physical bars held in vaults.

XAUT (XAUT), issued by the firm that’s behind the USDT stablecoin, saw a $437 million jump in its supply to a record $1.3 billion, per CoinGecko. Tether’s Treasury minted 129,000 tokens in early August on the Ethereum network, blockchain data by Etherscan shows.

PAXG (PAXG), the gold-backed token of U.S.-based stablecoin firm Paxos, swelled to a record market size of $983 million, DefiLlama data shows. That’s been fueled by $141.5 million net inflows into the token since June.

Gold currently traded at around $3,470, just shy of the April 22 peak hit amidst the tariff tantrum.

The precious metal, which is widely considered as a safe haven asset during times of uncertainty, has been resurging lately, driven by a steepening U.S. Treasury yield curve.

Gold Killing Bitcoin? Bizarre Correlation Spotted

Gold Killing Bitcoin? Bizarre Correlation Spotted

by admin September 1, 2025

  • Bitcoin is secured
  • Why Bitcoin loves gold

Bitcoin lost numerous critical levels, and gold soared to new heights: This certainly wasn’t in most traders’ playbooks. It appears that gold is killing Bitcoin’s momentum and becoming the true safe-haven asset.

Bitcoin is secured

Despite what short-term charts may indicate, the rally in gold may actually support Bitcoin’s long-term argument. With a clear break above the $3,500 resistance level, gold futures have completed a multi-month consolidation breakout. With bullish flashing momentum indicators, the move is supported by strong volume.

Source: Will Clemente

Historically, the demand for gold has been driven by inflation, geopolitical unpredictability and waning fiat confidence, all of which investors seem to be protecting themselves against. Bitcoin has found it difficult to stay competitive in this environment. Since failing to hold the $120,000 zone, Bitcoin has weakened and fallen to $107,000, breaking below its 50-day EMA.

On the surface, the divergence appears to be a zero-sum game in which Bitcoin loses as capital rotates into gold. However, the correlation isn’t as harmful as it first appears to be. Actually, the strength of gold only serves to strengthen the larger anti-fiat thesis that both assets are associated with.

Why Bitcoin loves gold

Bitcoin thrives on the narrative that hard assets are outperforming fiat currencies, which is reinforced by each new gold high. Despite the temptation for Bitcoin holders to see gold’s breakout as a danger, it actually makes Bitcoin more vulnerable to memes. Bitcoin proponents will once more highlight BTC’s greater upside potential in comparison to the boomer rock, if gold can firmly establish itself at $3,600 or higher.

You Might Also Like

The argument that Bitcoin’s eventual run could outpace gold’s measured gains is strengthened by the fact that the comparison gap widens as gold prices rise. Does gold kill Bitcoin? Maybe in the short term. The breakout momentum of gold is evident, but the Bitcoin charts appear fragile.

Long-term, however, the gold rally might just pave the way for Bitcoin’s story to gain momentum. Bitcoin owners shouldn’t worry just yet, because the race isn’t finished, even though the baton may have momentarily shifted to gold. This strange correlation is simply another chapter in the conflict between fiat money and hard assets.

Historic Flip: Bitcoin ETFs On Pace To Surpass Gold ETFs In AUM

by admin August 30, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

In the dynamic financial sector, Bitcoin ETFs are rapidly gaining ground against their gold counterparts, with inflows pushing total assets under management toward record highs. Bitcoin ETFs are set to overtake gold ETFs in total assets under management.

Bitcoin ETFs Cement Role As Institutional Gateway To Crypto

Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) are on the brink of making history globally. In an X post, the Kobeissi Letter, an industry-leading commentary on global capital markets, has revealed that BTC ETFs are on track to surpass Gold ETFs in assets under management (AUM) for the first time in history, marking a historic milestone in global markets. Over the past 12 months, AUM in the largest cryptocurrency ETFs has doubled to $150 billion, while gold ETFs have climbed 40% to a record of $180 billion.

The comparison highlights how rapidly momentum has shifted. Just three years ago, gold ETFs were five times larger than Bitcoin ETFs. Presently, with accelerating inflows into digital asset products, that gap is narrowing at a historic speed.

If current trends continue, Bitcoin ETFs could surpass gold ETFs as early as next year. This is a symbolic flip that underscores the rise of crypto from speculative asset to mainstream portfolio allocation.

BTC ETFs growth against Gold ETFs | Source: Chart from The Kobeissi Letter

Lately, ETFs are proving to be the engine behind the current crypto bull market. According to Ucan_Coin, BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, oversees nearly 2,000 funds, with about 1,400 of them being ETFs. Clients buy into these funds, while BlackRock earns fees on the assets under management.

However, the Bitcoin Spot ETF fee is just 0.25%, but the power lies in scale and liquidity. Over the last two years, ETFs have provided the critical fuel for this rally, with nearly 20% of all liquidity entering crypto now flowing directly from ETF products.

As Ucan_Coin highlights, BlackRock’s IBIT stands out. As the chart demonstrates, IBIT is the locomotive pulling the entire market, driving inflows and setting the pace for the broader bull run.

ETF Inflows Signal Rising Institutional Appetite For Bitcoin

The US spot Bitcoin ETFs are gaining remarkable momentum, while generating $5 to $10 billion in daily volume on their most active trading days. Pushpendra Singh, Co-founder of PushpendraTech and SmartViewAi, has explained that this surge is a clear sign that institutional investors are increasingly seeking regulated exposure to Bitcoin, and ETFs are rapidly becoming their preferred gateway.

Despite the ETF boom, Binance continues to dominate the spot market, processing between $10 to $18 billion in daily spot volume and holding a 29% market share. This is more than double the 13% market share currently held by US-based ETFs, and it puts Binance comfortably ahead of other major exchanges in terms of liquidity.

Bitcoin vs Gold: Why Choose? Gold Bars Are Now Tokenized on BTC Blockchain

by admin August 27, 2025

In brief

  • TRIO and Swarm Markets launched tokenized gold bars on Bitcoin via the Ordinals protocol.
  • The tokens trade like other Ordinals, but redemption requires KYC through Swarm’s compliance process.
  • The project follows TRIO’s support for Runestone and Spartacus, which published the Afghan War Logs on-chain.

Gold bars have landed on Bitcoin. A new token project is inscribing the serial numbers of physical bullion stored in a secured vault directly onto the Bitcoin blockchain, letting people purchase and trade the rights to real gold.

TRIO, a Bitcoin-native marketplace created by OrdinalsBot, is behind the tokenized gold offering. The company announced Monday it has teamed with Swarm Markets to launch the Gold on Bitcoin collection, using the NFT-like Ordinals protocol to attach metadata from gold bars stored in a Brinks vault in London.

“Every gold bar in Brinks has a serial number,” OrdinalsBot co-founder Brian Laughlan told Decrypt. “All you really need to do is attach that serial number to a digital asset—in this case, an Ordinal. It’s baked into the metadata. And that’s it: you’ve now got a tokenized version of gold.”

How it works:

You start by minting 1 or more 1oz bars of gold 💎

Trio will inscribe the assets onto the Bitcoin blockchain, then with the help of @SwarmMarkets & @Brinks your gold bar gets stored in a safe 🏦

After this you can trade your Ordinal on our marketplace! pic.twitter.com/lU4UQT6hyy

Each token, Laughlan explained, is tied to the current price of a single ounce of gold. The tokens can be traded like any other Ordinals asset, but redemption of the physical bars requires know-your-customer verification through Swarm. KYC is necessary because physical gold is a regulated asset, and its transfer must comply with anti-money laundering and identity verification laws. After KYC is complete, the gold bars can then be sent to their owner.

“That’s the reality of real-world assets,” he said. “They exist in the real world, so real-world laws apply.”

OrdinalsBot launched TRIO in December. The platform supports trading of Ordinals along with Bitcoin meme coins in the Runes and BRC-20 token standards.

Notable Ordinals collections include Runestone, which is tied to the DOG meme coin on Bitcoin, and Project Spartacus, which published the leaked U.S. military documents known as the Afghan War Logs onto the original blockchain.

The launch comes as tokenized gold emerges as one of the most active corners of the real-world asset market. By turning vaulted bullion into tradable digital tokens, projects aim to merge the reliability of gold with the accessibility of crypto token trading.

Ethereum-based tokens like Tether Gold (XAUT) and Pax Gold (PAXG) already account for billions in on-chain value. Real-world asset protocols—including those offering tokenized gold—hold more than $26 billion in total value, per data from RWA.xyz.

Laughlan said launching the gold tokens on Bitcoin was a deliberate choice, pointing to its longstanding reputation as “digital gold.”

The project is starting small. Just six single-ounce gold bars have been tokenized so far, Laughlan explained, but more can be minted if demand grows. The hope, he said, is to establish a standard for how gold is inscribed via Ordinals so other custodians can adopt the same format.

Laughlan said the appeal of tokenized gold on Bitcoin might be as symbolic as it is practical.

“There’s something poetic about putting real gold on Bitcoin,” Laughlan said.

Bitcoin Is Replacing Gold And Heading For A Million-Dollar Valuation, Tom Lee Declares

by admin August 19, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

In the early days of Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency was seen as a mere tech asset by early adopters and developers with no intrinsic value. However, BTC has since grown at an exponential rate over the years, slowly earning the reputation of Digital Gold in the crypto and financial landscape.

Gold Out, Bitcoin Taking Over

Bitcoin’s mainstream status is growing strong across the broader financial sector, with many well-known figures and companies doubling down on the crypto king. As Bitcoin takes over the finance system, Tom Lee, Veteran market strategist and Fundstrat Global Advisors CEO, reignited the bullish debate around BTC, its stark transformative potential, and role.

Trending Bitcoin on the social media platform X shared a short clip of a recent interview where Fundstrat’s CEO made the bold declaration about BTC. While underscoring BTC’s evolution from an ordinary tech asset to a mainstream asset, Lee has once again doubled down on his bold forecast that BTC may reach the million-dollar valuation in the years ahead.

In the interview, Lee gave his latest remarks on BTC, emphasizing that Bitcoin is not just a speculative asset but a viable replacement for Gold, the world’s largest asset. This audacious claim by Lee positions the crypto king as the ultimate store of value in the dynamic digital era.

Lee’s statement that BTC will replace Gold is backed by the conviction of market participants and the use cases of the asset, which have several use cases. With institutional adoption growing and investor confidence in conventional hedges declining, Bitcoin’s resilience and scarcity will solidify its role as the contemporary counterpart and ultimate replacement of gold.

Considering these developments, the CEO  has recalled his long-term bullish projections for Bitcoin, noting that it will hit the $1 million value over time. After sharing his price prediction, Lee also delved into the longstanding BTC 4-year cycle.

According to the veteran strategist, the 4-year cycle could be drawing close to its end for BTC. This is because of how institutions are adopting the asset as the thesis is taking place. As a result, institutional investors and essentially permanent holders of BTC will start engaging with the crypto asset.

Lee has declared this wave of strong investors a good thing for BTC. Thus far, the CEO expects the asset to significantly build on the $120,000, which would act as a launchpad to the $200,000 and $250,000 range before the end of this year.

Large Institutions Are Still Buying BTC

Despite facing heightened bearish pressure, large companies are showing robust confidence in Bitcoin, as they continue to purchase it in substantial portions. A recent BTC Buy from a Japanese-based firm, Metaplanet, demonstrates this persistent accumulation among big corporations.

In another strategic move, Metaplanet has acquired an additional 775 BTC, valued at $93 million at $120,006 per coin. According to the report shared by the firm’s president, Simon Gerovich, Metaplanet’s overall Bitcoin holdings now stand at 18,888 BTC, worth a staggering $1.9 billion. The data shows that the firm has achieved a yield of 480.2% year-to-date (YTD) in 2025.
