There’s A Demo For To A T, The Next Game From Katamari Damacy Creator, Out Now

Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi and his indie studio uvula announced last year that their next game is about a boy who lives life in a t-pose called “to a T.” We recently learned it’s launching on May 28 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and the team has released a demo ahead of the game’s launch.

You can check it out now on PC via Steam (sorry PS5 and Xbox players) to get a quick look at the game, what to expect, and how it plays. Considering it’s coming from the mind behind Katamari Damacy, expect some fun hijinks. Plus, your save data transfers over to the final game. 

 

“A charming, colorful adventure game from the creator of Katamari Damacy and the uvula team about a teen navigating life in a small town with their cute dog companion,” the game’s Steam description reads. “While their body is stuck in a T-pose, they do their best to make the most of it.”

The Steam page also details what to expect of the full game, including an episodic story that unfolds over multiple days, plenty of minigames, a cute town to explore, and unique character customization. You can get a taste of all this in the to a T demo, which is available right now.

Avowed game director Carrie Patel departs Obsidian, joins Netflix’s gaming team

Carrie Patel, who served as game director on this year’s acclaimed fantasy action-RPG Avowed, has confirmed her departure from Obsidian Entertainment after nearly 12 years with the studio and announced a new role at Netflix.


Patel, who was very much the face of Avowed throughout its development, shared the news in a brief update on LinkedIn, revealing she’s now working within Netflix’s gaming division, having joined Oxenfree developer Night School Studio as a game director.


She offered no further clue as to what she’ll be working on at Night School in her update, but the Oxenfree and Afterparty studio has an impressive track record, despite its limited output since being acquired by Netflix in 2021. It released Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals in 2023 but nothing else until Black Mirror tie-in Thronglets arrived earlier this year – a release that followed an unspecified number of layoffs at Night School in March.

Netflix’s gaming strategy has taken some dramatic shifts in direction since the streaming service’s first tentative steps back in 2021. After an initial focus on mobile titles, it seemed ready to stride into the world of AAA console gaming in 2023, even hitting up longtime Halo creative lead Joseph Staten, Overwatch executive producer Chacko Sonny, and God of War art director Rafael Grassetti to found a new development team.


However, Netflix quietly closed the studio late last year, and is reportedly now focusing on narrative and transmedia projects, on big mainstream IP, on being a trusted destination for families, and on party games played on TVs using mobile phones as a controller. That does, of course, still leave room for Night Studio – and Patel – to continue making the kind of games it does best.


As for Avowed, prior to Patel’s departure from Obsidian, she suggested it wasn’t a one-and-done effort. “Now that we’ve built this wonderful world, and also built this team strength and muscle memory around the content and gameplay in this world,” she explained, “I’d love to see us do more with it.” Next up for Obsidian, though, is The Outer Worlds 2. It’s due later this year, with a special developer deep dive set to air on 8th June following the Xbox Games Showcase.

Naughty Dog has another new game in the works

Appearing on the Press X to Continue podcast, Druckmann said, “There’s another game that’s being worked on at Naughty Dog where I’m [in] more of a producer role and I get to mentor, and watch this other team, and give feedback and be like the executive in the room. I enjoy all those roles, and the fact that I jump from one to the next it makes my job very exciting and always feeling fresh. I’m never bored.”

While Druckmann is credited as Creative Director on both The Last of Us games and Intergalactic, he seems be embracing a more hands-off role with this new project. Having multiple teams develop separate games alongside each other is nothing new for studios as large as Naughty Dog. It was recently working on a The Last of Us multiplayer game before that was cancelled in 2023.

Perhaps Druckmann is overseeing the revival of one of the studio’s dormant franchises — Naughty Dog was known for the Crash Bandicoot and Jax and Dexter series before it pivoted its focus to The Last of Us and Uncharted. Speaking of which… could an Uncharted 5 be on the way?

2016’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End closed out Nathan Drake’s journey as a swashbuckling treasure hunter, though it kept the door open for more adventures through the introduction of his and Elena Fisher’s daughter, Cassie. Kaitlyn Dever portrayed Cassie in Uncharted 4’s epilogue and currently stars as Abby in season 2 of The Last of Us.

A 2023 PS5 ad ignited speculation the Uncharted series was due to return. It featured live-action clips emulating Sony’s robust first-party lineup, and one Uncharted-like clip showed a young woman holding a torch and exploring a cave in search of some sort of artifact. Job listings at that time sought talent for a separate studio “co-developing an exciting new project with Naughty Dog in a beloved franchise” (via VGC), though it’s not confirmed if that “beloved franchise” is Uncharted or something else.

We likely won’t know what Naughty Dog is working on for some time, if it gets formally revealed at all; remember, plenty of games get cancelled before the public even knew they existed.

According to a recent Shift Up investor relations presentation, Stellar Blade will be getting a sequel “before 2027”. One assumes that probably means 2026. Regardless of how it’s framed, it’s wonderful news, as it means the best action game released in 2024 is getting some more love (yeah I said it).

This investor relations presentation contains a bunch of interesting information worth combing over if you’re interested in the health of the company. But for this story we’re interested in slide 19, which displays a timeline of sorts for “IP expansion on its way with high visibility”.

In this graph, we can see Stellar Blade represented by its own section showing that the Stellar Blade IP will be getting a “platform expansion”, as well as a bar labelled “sequel”. After this bar is a mysterious entry titled “Project Witches”, which looks to be a new IP Shift Up is working on. All before 2027, so it looks like the continued success of Nikke and Stellar Blade’s stellar performance is keeping the developer busy.

It couldn’t have happened to a better game, frankly. I rememeber when Project Eve was first shown off during a Sony State of Play back in 2022, and while everyone was being boring and cheering about God of War Ragnarok, I recall being like “Hey, this Project Eve thing looks cool, I’m eager to hear more”. Little did I know it wouldn’t only be a surprise hit last year, but come with a frankly supurb soundtrack to boot.

Video game voice actor union takes Fortnite’s Darth Vader chatbot to court

Video game voice-actor union SAG-AFTRA are launching a legal case against the presence of generated AI voice-acting for Darth Vader in Epic’s battle royale Fortnite. They’re accusing the company’s subsidiary Llama Productions of using AI to “replace the work of human performers” – or at least, of replacing human performers without first haggling out terms with the union.

The AI-voiced Vader character was added to Fortnite last week, in collaboration with the family of James Earl Jones, the original voice of Darth. Track down and recruit him and you’ll be able to take turns generatively bantering with Fauxnakin. Needless to say, the addition has proven a hit among the furiously masticating hamsters of social media. Also needless to say, players have swiftly worked out how to bait DAIrth VAIder into dropping F-bombs
and slurs, though at the time of publication, Epic appear to have addressed this in a patch.

Now, the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists have filed an unfair labour practice charge against SkAIwalker Senior with the US National Labor Relations Board.

“We celebrate the right of our members and their estates to control the use of their digital replicas and welcome the use of new technologies to allow new generations to share in the enjoyment of those legacies and renowned roles,” the union wrote in a statement. “However, we must protect our right to bargain terms and conditions around uses of voice that replace the work of our members, including those who previously did the work of matching Darth Vader’s iconic rhythm and tone in video games.

“Fortnite’s signatory company, Llama Productions, chose to replace the work of human performers with A.I. technology,” it continues. “Unfortunately, they did so without providing any notice of their intent to do this and without bargaining with us over appropriate terms. As such, we have filed an unfair labor practice charge with the NLRB against Llama Productions.”

The court document itself claims that Llama Productions have “failed and refused to bargain in good faith with the union by making unilateral changes to terms and conditions of employment, without providing notice to the union or the opportunity to bargain, by utilizing AI-generated voices to replace bargaining unit work on the Interactive Program Fortnite”.

SAG-AFTRA – who represent a spectrum of workers across the media and entertainment sphere – have often gone to bat with the video games industry over the usage of human voice-acting to “train” bots, and the potential replacing of voice-acting in games with genAI. Following a lengthy negotiation over AI protections with the likes of GTA 6 publisher Take-Two and Call Of Duty household Activision, they called a strike last July in the name of “fair compensation and the right of informed consent”. The strike continues. Some video game voice and performance artists have, however, criticised SAG-AFTRA for striking deals with individual genAI companies.

All this forms part of the wider, on-going debate about the ethics and legalities of generative AI – our Electric Nightmares essay series remains a good primer. While voice actors contest the loss of work, other organisations are picking fights with the genAI biz over copyright infringement.

According to an Epic Games blog post, the Darth Vader chatbot in Fortnite makes use of two AI models – Google’s Gemini and ElevenLabs’ Flash. Gemini was recently hit by a $271 million fine over copyright breach, with France’s competition watchdog accusing the search engine company of “training” the bot with material from publishers and news agencies without notifying them. Google have pledged not to contest these facts as part of settlement proceedings.

Fill a bit of year-long wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 with this chaotic new game

Look, it’s time to face reality: it’ll be another year until you can play Grand Theft Auto 6. I know, I know — you were probably hoping that you’d wake up this week and discover that its delay to May 26, 2026 was just a dream. Sadly, them’s the breaks, kid. You’re going to need to play some other things to fill that gap, whether its something like Mafia: The Old Country or other vehicular crime games like Mario Kart World (at least the way I plan to play it).

But don’t worry, I’m not just here to bum you out. I am nothing if not constructive, so I come bearing a recommendation to help ease your sorrow, if only for a few weeks. Deliver at All Costs is a delightfully chaotic new game that takes inspiration from the original Grand Theft Auto games, back when the series had a top-down perspective. It’s a compact slice of open-world mayhem that GTA fans are sure to get a kick out of.

Published by Konami, Deliver at All Costs follows a delivery driver named Winston who gets a new gig in the quiet town of St. Monique circa 1959. His job is simple: deliver packages around town in his crappy pick up truck. How hard can that be?

To answer that question, Deliver at All Costs begins with one heck of a joke. At the very start of the game, I exit my apartment and get into my car. I instinctively press down my right trigger to accelerate. Instead of moving forward, my car blasts backwards and crashes through a storefront that crumbles into a million pieces. It’s a perfect introduction. It not only tells me that every piece of the city is destructible, but also that I’m in for a full slapstick comedy of errors.

That’s what the full game delivers over the course of its varied jobs, each of which plays with physics in creative ways. In one mission, I need to haul a living Marlin across town. It thrashes in the backseat of my truck, throwing off my steering. Another mission has me delivering a balloon inflating machine, one that keeps lifting my truck into the air anytime my wheels even slightly come off the ground. All of that happens from a top down perspective that pulls inspiration from Grand Theft Auto 2.

A game like this lives and dies by how many ways it can twist a simple idea around. While its frontloaded with its best jokes, there are a lot of comedic gags throughout that keep missions diverse. One highlight tasks me with racing toy cars to kids around a neighborhood, piloting them almost like unwieldy slot cars. The cops take notice and deploy a squad of tiny police cars after me, which try to ram into my vehicles and blow them up. I didn’t know what to expect next from each mission, which kept me playing even when its dull story and traditional open-world collect-a-thon hooks didn’t hold my interest.

The real appeal, though, is more primal. The fully destructible maps are just a delight to crash into. For the most part, I tried to do my job like a good upstanding citizen, obeying traffic laws as best as possible. Naturally, that’s not always possible. I’d often find myself barreling through a building and watching bits and pieces fly out of it as I accelerated through the other side. The citizens of its explorable spaces don’t take kindly to being plowed over either, as they’ll attack my truck and force me to get out and repair it. Fortunately, I can craft upgrades to help me deal with that, like hydraulic doors that I can use to knock away pesky pedestrians. It all makes for some satisfying emergent comedy as I turn quiet 1950s towns into my own personal demotion derby.

While it feels a little long in the tooth for what it is and uses its best ideas too fast, Deliver at All Costs is a fun little gem in the vein of something like Maneater. That is to say that it delivers a light, fun, and funny premise and executes it well enough to make it all worth the curiosity. And hey, what else are you going to do for the next year while you wait for Grand Theft Auto 6? Get behind the wheel and deliver some chaos.

Bionicle: Masks of Power – a fan game that has been in development for eight years – has been shut down following a request from The LEGO Group, its developers claim.

In a statement released to the public via a Google Doc, the team broke down the situation for fans who’ve been waiting to actually play the game after all this time. The devs, who were preparing to drop a demo this August, claim that LEGO reached out to request they shut down development on the project and remove the game from the public eye.

In the statement, the team expressed its historical intention to keep in line with the official LEGO Fair Play Guidelines, as to not draw the eye of an legal action from LEGO looking to protect its copyright. Despite these intentions, the hammer has seemingly come down. While it says no official reason for the takedown was given, the team suspects that it was because the average person may mistake the game for an official game, rather than a fan project. It seems this fan game was a victim of its own good SEO.

In reaction to the news, the development team has released a walkthrough of the demo, and has decided to form a new indie studio: Unmasked Games. That name is great by the way, hinting towards its Bionicle roots but taking the mask off for future endeavors. They conclude the statement with the following: “This has been heartbreaking news for our entire team, but we’re also incredibly excited about what the future has in store, and for what we’ll get the chance to create next. We hope that you’re all just as excited as we are. For the final time… May the Great Spirit guide you.”

Bionicle has been a dead IP product line since 2010 by the way. That’s the last time any actual toys were produced by The LEGO group. There was a series of comics written by Greg Farshtey, though that has also been dead for over a decade. It’s clear that the Bionicle IP is scorching hot, something LEGO is clearly doing a lot with. Sarcasm aside, such are the ways of legal departments. IP must be protected, even for IP that has had no development or frankly relevancy for over a decade. That is, aside from a relatively small community of fans who were, until very recently, excited for a new fan game. Damn shame!

It’s a bummer. It’s a common belief that the best way to approach making fan games is to “shut the f**k up”, but obviously not all fan project teams have the luxury of silence and a sudden shadow drop before any cease and desist can come through and ruin all the fun. Still, if you were excited for Mask of Power, why not give the folks at Unmasked Games some love, and support them going forward.

Hideo Kojima Says Physint, His Next Action Espionage Game, Is 5-6 Years Away

Hideo Kojima and PlayStation announced last year they were teaming up to create a new action espionage game called Physint, a welcome genre return for fans of Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid series. In a new interview with French magazine Le Film Français, Kojima said Physint is five to six years away from release.

This timeline isn’t too surprising – Kojima Productions’ next release is Death Stranding 2: On The Beach on June 26, and the studio is already developing its next game after that, OD, for Xbox. Assuming Kojima Productions has no other surprises, Kojima claimed last year that Physint’s development would begin in earnest after the launch of Death Stranding 2 (likely up to bat after OD), so the five-to-six-year timeline makes sense.

 

“Besides Death Stranding 2, there is Physint in development. That will take me another five or six years. Maybe after that, I could finally decide to tackle a film,” Kojima told Le Film Français when asked about directing a movie, as reported by Video Games Chronicle.

Kojima also told the magazine he received many offers to direct a movie when he left Konami in 2015. Considering how much Kojima loves films and the people behind them, seeing him direct one wouldn’t be surprising. Consider those extra-long Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding cutscenes practice for his directorial debut.

Nintendo Switch 2 will seemingly support both live subtitling and text-to-speech.

While not formally confirmed by Nintendo marketing, videos showing off the features popped up over the weekend. The first illustrates how a player can type messages into Game Chat and have the recipient hear the message aloud at their end of the exchange.

We’ve also seen a separate video showing Game Chat transcribing a live discussion and providing a transcription on the side of the screen.

It’s thought the system will, like its predecessor, also support USB keyboards but again, this has yet to be officially confirmed.

However, while Game Chat will be free for all users from release day until March 31, 2026, after that date players will require a Switch Online subscription, which means these accessibility features may potentially be locked behind the premium subscription. GamesIndustry.biz has reached out to Nintendo for clarification.

Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to release on June 5. Last week, Nintendo said it was committed to making its products “as obtainable as we possibly can” amidst fluctuating market conditions due to the US tariffs.

Naughty Dog working on second game alongside Intergalactic, Neil Druckmann confirms

It feels like we’ve only just been introduced to Naughty Dog’s sci-fi action-adventure Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, but studio boss Neil Druckmann has now confirmed there’s a second game in development at the studio.


Druckmann shared the news in conversation with the Press X to Continue podcast, explaining that alongside Intergalactic – where’s he’s serving as writer and creative director – “there’s another game that’s being worked on at Naughty Dog where I am more of a producer role.”


“And I get to mentor and watch this other team, and give feedback and be, like, the executive in the room,” he continued. “I enjoy all those roles, and the fact that I jump between one to the next, it makes my job very exciting and always feeling fresh. I’m never bored.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard multiple games are in development at Naughty Dog; the studio said it had “more than one ambitious, brand-new single player game” in the works back in 2023, when it announced the cancellation of The Last of Us Online. Druckmann’s latest statement is, however, the first confirmation since then that multiple projects are still underway.


As to what this second project might be, Druckmann offered no hints, but it’s possible it’s being helmed by Uncharted: The Lost Legacy director Shaun Escayg – who rejoined Naughty Dog back in 2021 after serving as creative director on Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel Avengers.


Druckmann has, of course, been teasing a third The Last of Us game in recent years, but he seemingly backtracked on that in March, telling fans, “Don’t bet on there being more.” For now, his main focus appears to be Intergalactic, which is currently expected to arrive in 2027. And while details on the game are currently limited, Druckmann recently named another actor who’s been cast in Intergalactic after their appearance in The Last of Us’ television show.
