Ripple Powers Offramp For BlackRock, VanEck Tokenized Fund

by admin September 25, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

Ripple has added another institutional rail to its stablecoin strategy: through an integration with Securitize, holders of BlackRock’s USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund (BUIDL) and VanEck’s VBILL tokenized US Treasuries can now redeem fund shares for Ripple USD (RLUSD) around the clock—initially on Ethereum, with support for the XRP Ledger (XRPL) in the pipeline.

BlackRock And VanEck Turn To Ripple’s RLUSD

In a press release dated September 23, Ripple and Securitize said a new smart-contract flow “would allow holders of BlackRock’s BUIDL and VanEck’s VBILL to exchange their shares … for Ripple USD (RLUSD),” describing the mechanism as “an additional stablecoin off ramp for BUIDL and VBILL tokenized short term treasury funds.” The companies emphasized continuous availability—“24/7”—and framed the upgrade as programmable liquidity for compliant, on-chain investment products. Securitize also confirmed it is integrating with the XRP Ledger “to expand access and bring new utility to the XRPL ecosystem.”

Jack McDonald, Ripple’s SVP of Stablecoins, positioned the move as a bridge between tokenized funds and transactional money: “RLUSD is for institutional use, offering regulatory clarity, stability, and real utility. As adoption grows, partnerships with trusted platforms like Securitize are key to unlocking new liquidity and enterprise-grade use cases.” On X, McDonald distilled the news for market participants: “RLUSD is now a key stablecoin offramp for BlackRock’s BUIDL and VanEck’s VBILL tokenized fund holders. The integration is starting with ETH, though Securitize is planning to integrate with the XRP Ledger.”

Ripple President Monica Long linked the Securitize integration to a broader RLUSD tokenization push announced the prior week with DBS and Franklin Templeton, where RLUSD serves as a “liquid, stable and compliant exchange mechanism for tokenized assets in lending and trading use cases.” “This week, Securitize added RLUSD as a new offramp for BlackRock and VanEck’s tokenized funds,” she noted.

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse underscored the 24/7 redemption promise and the XRPL roadmap: “Very excited to share that BlackRock’s BUIDL and @VanEck_US’s VBILL tokenized fund holders can redeem shares for RLUSD/ETH 24/7 365 through Securitize, and soon to come RLUSD/XRPL. Enterprise-grade instant onchain liquidity at your fingertips. That’s real utility.”

The companies framed the design as explicitly regulatory-first. Ripple said RLUSD is issued under a New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) trust charter, with “1:1 USD backing by high-quality liquid assets, strict reserve management and asset segregation, third-party attestations and clear redemption rights.” Ripple added that since launch in late 2024, RLUSD has integrated into DeFi and cross-border payment flows and surpassed $700 million in market capitalization.

For tokenized funds, the off-ramp matters because it stitches together yield-bearing on-chain treasuries with settlement-grade stablecoin liquidity. BlackRock’s BUIDL and VanEck’s VBILL are tokenized short-term US Treasury strategies issued through Securitize on public blockchains; the new workflow lets qualified holders convert fund shares into RLUSD without banking hours friction, potentially improving collateral mobility for trading, lending, repo and treasury operations.

Ripple Puts New Focus On Tokenization

The development also follows Ripple’s tie-up with DBS and Franklin Templeton, which is listing Franklin’s sgBENJI token on the DBS Digital Exchange alongside RLUSD to enable swapping between the tokenized fund and the stablecoin, and to explore using tokenized fund units as repo collateral—an example of how banks envisage tokenization rails meeting institutional liquidity needs.

While the initial redemption path is live on Ethereum via Securitize, both firms signaled that XRPL integration is next, aligning with Ripple’s push to make RLUSD natively useful across multiple venues. If executed, XRPL support would extend the same institutional redemption mechanics to a different settlement environment—one that Ripple and parts of the treasury-tokenization market already touch via custody, payments, and prior Franklin Templeton XRPL issuance plans.

Notably, BlackRock will be represented at Ripple Swell 2025 in New York on November 4–5 at Convene Hudson Yards. Maxwell Stein, BlackRock’s Director of Digital Assets, is slated to speak in a session titled “The Impact of Tokenized Financial Assets on Capital Markets,” alongside Rory Callagy of Moody’s.

At press time, XRP traded at $2.88.

Crypto VC Firm Archetype Launches $100M Fund to Back Early Blockchain Startup

by admin September 24, 2025

New York-based venture capital firm Archetype has raised $100 million for its third fund aimed at backing early-stage blockchain startups, the firm said.

The fund, called Archetype III, is supported by a mix of existing and new institutional investors, including pensions, academic endowments, sovereign wealth funds, and funds of funds.

“Running a concentrated $100M fund lets us be extremely selective and high-conviction with each team,” Ash Egan, founder and general partner of Archetype, told CoinDesk in an email. “We operate with a single goal — to ensure crypto teams are positioned to win by building deep rapport with founders in a way that mega funds structurally cannot.”

Archetype has a track record of early bets that paid off. Privy, a crypto wallet startup in its portfolio, was acquired by Stripe earlier this year.

Another investment, US Bitcoin Corp, completed a merger with Hut 8, a move that brought the company into a joint venture tied to Eric Trump’s American Bitcoin project.

The firm currently manages around $350 million in assets, including sizable stakes in Solana and Ethereum, according to the document.

While specific investments from the new fund haven’t been disclosed, Archetype said several deals have already been made. The firm plans to focus on founders building real-world use cases that could bring crypto to broader consumer markets.

Egan, commenting on potential barriers still holding back cryptocurrency adoption, told CoinDesk there’s “no silver bullet for mainstream crypto adoption, but the end game is to deliver products that are at parity with their Web2 alternatives while making them better aligned with users and creators.”

Still, he added, the firm works “shoulder to shoulder with our founders, we spend hours on end studying how new behaviour and technologies can be packaged into the best experiences for everyday users.”

UPDATE (Sept. 23, 2025, 19:17 UTC): This article has been updated with comments from Ash Egan, founder and general partner of Archetype.

An original Apple I PC just sold for $500K and now I’m frantically ransacking boxes of old PC and Apple kit for my retirement fund

by admin September 23, 2025

An original Apple I computer just hit $475,000 in an auction sale (via Tom’s Hardware). The Apple I was conceived as a bare circuit board for which enthusiasts would build their own case, but this unit was one of 50 made for Byte Shop and sold with a natty wooden case. Only nine of the 50 are known to survive today.

Apart from the sheer portent of an original Apple I and the particular rarity of this version (it’s thought there were only around 200 Apple I computers ever built, so this machine is in a very rarefied niche, even among Apple I’s), the incredible condition of this example and the fact that it’s fully functional (as demo’ed in this YouTube video) no doubt contributed to the hefty hammer price.

The Apple I was of course the work of Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak and these “Byte Shop” machines are regarded as the turning point that made Apple Computer viable as a company.

Related articles

At the time in 1976, Jobs and Wozniak were selling a small handful of bare boards to enthusiasts. But Jobs approached Paul Terrell at the Byte Shop in Mountain View, California, an early personal computer outlet. Terrell apparently offered to buy 50 Apple I machines, but only if they came fully assembled in cases.

It’s said Jobs and Wozniak personally assembled all 200 of the original Apple I, though eventuality the Byte Shop Apple I’s were actually delivered as bare boards. Terrell nevertheless accepted them, knocking up wood cases that were a cut above the hobbyist norm.

The Apple I Byte Shop machine running the 30th Anniversary ASCII art demo. (Image credit: RR Auctions)

Whatever, that Byte Shop deal for 50 computers was absolutely critical in getting Apple over the line from being a couple of tinkerers in a garage to something resembling an actual company. “That was the biggest single episode in all of the company’s history. Nothing in subsequent years was so great and so unexpected,” Steve Wozniak later said of the deal.

And it is a pretty funky thing. It’s actually remarkable just how familiar it looks, the case and keyboard being instantly recognisable as a personal computer. Indeed, keyboards have changed remarkably little in the intervening 49 years.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

It’s also not hard to imagine someone producing a hipster homebrew PC build that looked just like this original Apple I build. That said, today’s computing enthusiast might be just a touch disappointed by the specs. A maximum of 8K of onboard memory, as fitted here, and a 1 MHz CPU isn’t exactly the stuff of smooth Borderlands 4 frame rates.

Then again, watching ASCII art images of the Woz and Jobs emerge in text characters, line-by-line, on the Apple I’s screen is pretty cool and in some ways more impressive than the latest ray-traced pixel fest. At the very least, it’s awfully nostalgic, especially for someone who can very dimly remember the day his father brought an Apple II Plus back from the office. Now, whatever did happen to that…?

BitMEX Co-founder Arthur Hayes Sells HYPE to Fund Ferrari Purchase, Stands by 126x Forecast

by admin September 22, 2025

Arthur Hayes, the BitMEX co-founder who now runs crypto venture fund Maelstrom, sold his personal stash of Hyperliquid’s HYPE tokens just weeks after predicting the asset could rally 126-fold.

Ferrari jokes and blockchain receipts

Blockchain analytics service Lookonchain reported on Sunday that Hayes unloaded 96,628 HYPE — worth about $5.1 million — booking a profit of roughly $823,000, or 19%, in a month.

Not long after, Hayes confirmed the move with his trademark irreverence, posting on X: “Need to pay my deposit on the new Rari 849 Testarossa.” The comment fueled backlash from traders who accused him of pumping HYPE in August before quickly exiting.

Hayes pushed back on Monday, insisting the sale was tied to concerns laid out by his firm. “This is why we dumped $HYPE today. But don’t worry 126x is still possible 2028 is a long way off,” he wrote.

Maelstrom warns of $11.9B supply unlocks

Earlier today, Maelstrom published a lengthy X post outlining what it called HYPE’s “first true test.”

Starting Nov. 29, 237.8 million HYPE will begin vesting linearly over two years — unlocking nearly $500 million of tokens per month. At current prices of around $50, that represents $11.9 billion of supply entering circulation.

The post estimated Hyperliquid’s buyback program could only absorb about 17% of that flow, leaving a potential $410 million monthly overhang. “Has the market priced in the sheer scale of these unlocks?” Maelstrom asked.

Maelstrom framed the looming supply shock as natural for a fast-growing protocol but warned that large vested allocations may tempt early developers and insiders to sell. The firm also noted that even large decentralized autonomous treasury (DAT) deals, such as Sonnet’s $583 million HYPE raise, won’t offset the scale of the unlocks.

Still betting on a decentralized Binance

The remarks contrasted sharply with Hayes’s Aug. 27 blog post, where he called Hyperliquid a “decentralized Binance” and argued HYPE could climb 126x by 2028. That thesis relied on bold assumptions: a $10 trillion stablecoin market, Hyperliquid capturing a Binance-level trading share, and fee structures holding steady.

Despite selling his tokens, Hayes reiterated that long-term view on Monday, describing the upcoming unlock as a hurdle, not a death blow. In his words, “2028 is a long way off.”

Hyperliquid has surged to become a dominant player in decentralized perpetual futures, and its HYPE token remains central to governance, staking and fee distribution. Whether the market can digest nearly $12 billion in new supply may determine if Hayes’s forecast proves prescient — or overly ambitious.

What’s an ‘AltAlt Season’ Crypto ETF? Perplexing Proposed Fund Skips Bitcoin and Ethereum

by admin September 20, 2025

In brief

  • Tidal Financial Group applied for a leveraged AltAlt Season Crypto ETF, along with two other filings on Thursday.
  • The proposed fund confounded even some of the fund industry’s sharpest observers unsure what an “alt alt season” was.
  • The fund will relate initially to the performance of XRP and Solana, and exclude Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Issuers of crypto funds have grown increasingly creative in their proposals over the past few months as they seek to meet investors growing appetite for these products.

But an “AltAlt Season” exchange-traded fund? That’s new territory.

Tidal Financial Group’s Quantify 2X Daily AltAlt Season Crypto ETF, one of three funds included in an application to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday, confounded even a few fund industry observers.

“What is AltAlt vs Alt? (Because I wanted to know too),” Bloomberg ETF Research Analyst James Seyffart tweeted with a screenshot from the filing and his own terse summary. “Alt just excludes BTC, the other excludes both BTC and ETH.”

Tidal’s N1-A registration filing also covered the Quantify 2X Daily All Cap Crypto ETF, and Quantify 2X Daily Alt Season Crypto ETF. All three leveraged funds target risk-tolerant investors, enticing them with the potential for two times the daily return of the cryptocurrencies that they hold.

“Because the fund seeks daily leveraged investment results, it is very different from most other exchange-traded funds,” the prospectus says in each of the fund descriptions. “It is also riskier than alternatives that do not use leverage.”

The AltAlt fund will align initially with the performance of XRP and Solana, according to the Tidal prospectus. The Alt ETF will correspond initially to those digital assets and Ethereum, while the All Cap strategy covers those assets and Bitcoin.

“Alt seasons” describe periods when Ethereum and other larger altcoin prices outpace Bitcoin, usually after Bitcoin’s own price increases. “Alt alt seasons” refer to timespans when market activity shifts to altcoins with mid-sized market capitalizations and then to smaller-cap tokens in a trickle-down effect. The AltAlt looks to benefit from these latter trends.

All three funds may include swap agreements or option contracts on shares of U.S.-listed spot crypto ETFs or that offer exposure to digital assets indirectly through investments in crypto-based derivatives, or that directly invest in crypto funds, among other options.

In recent months, issuers have applied for a widening array of leveraged crypto ETFs, along with spot funds based on various altcoins and combinations of tokens. The SEC is now weighing submissions for more than 90 of these products, as of late August, according to Bloomberg research.

Their odds of approval received a boost on Wednesday when the SEC signed off on new generic listing standards for commodity-based trusts, easing the approval process. The agency’s thumbs-up underscored the more receptive regulatory and political environment that has emboldened issuers.

“We’re already at 2x AltAlt Season Crypto ETFs and it’s not even October. Do you realize how crazy things are gonna get?” quipped Bloomberg Senior ETF Analyst Eric Balchunas in an X post Thursday.

He added: “I’ll be honest, I wasn’t that moved by the 2x Alt Season ETF but the 2x AltAlt Season, well that’s a whole [different] story lol”

Dogecoin ETF Sees Strong Debut, But Rex-Osprey Is Already Plotting a Riskier DOJE Fund

by admin September 20, 2025

In brief

  • Rex-Osprey’s DOJE ETF delivered substantial trading volume upon its debut Thursday.
  • The issuer is now seeking approval for a leveraged ETF product that grants 1-1.5x leveraged exposure to DOJE.
  • Beyond the leveraged long exposure, its objective is to send weekly distributions to holders.

Rex-Osprey’s DOJE, the first U.S. spot Dogecoin ETF, produced strong trading volumes when it hit the market on Thursday, landing in the top five for ETF rollouts so far this year. And its issuer has already filed for a riskier, leveraged play on it.

In a filing registered with the SEC on Thursday, Rex-Osprey applied to launch the REX DOJE Growth & Income ETF, an exchange traded product that aims to offer between 105-150% exposure to the price return of DOJE on a single day.

“Because the fund seeks daily leveraged investment results, it is very different from most other exchange-traded funds,” the filing reads. “As a result, the fund may be riskier than alternatives that do not use leverage.”

The REX DOJE Growth & Income ETF portfolio will be composed of three separate components: leveraged long exposure in the underlying Dogecoin ETF (DOJE), a covered call strategy to generate income, and investment in short-term treasuries or money market funds.

Its primary objective is to pay weekly distributions, with a secondary objective of earning daily investment results between 1-1.5x the percent change of DOJE.

The leveraged investment filing is not new to Rex-Osprey, which offers a variety of leveraged ETF plays, offering greater exposure but more risk for investors.

Its latest prospectus makes it well known that this additional risk is not for everyone.

“The fund is not suitable for all investors,” it reads. “The fund is designed to be utilized only by knowledgeable investors who understand the potential consequences of seeking targeted daily leveraged investment results, understand the risks associated with the use of leverage, and are willing to monitor their portfolios frequently.”

Because of the daily leveraged makeup, the firm also notes that beyond a single day the fund will lose if DOJE’s return is flat, and it’s also possible the Growth & Income ETF will lose even if the DOJE ETF increases over more than a day.

Additionally, the prospectus indicates that there is no guarantee the strategy will be implemented properly, or that it will be able to pay weekly distributions.

Dogecoin (DOGE) is down 6% in the last 24 hours to $0.265. The leading meme coin has jumped more than 22% in the last month, but remains around 64% off its 2021 all-time high of $0.73.

Rex-Osprey’s standard DOJE ETF began trading on Thursday and generated about $17 million worth of trading volume, putting it in the top five for first-day volume among ETF launches this year, according to Bloomberg Senior ETF Analyst Eric Balchunas.

The Rex-Osprey XRP ETF, meanwhile, also launched on Thursday and saw much stronger demand, topping this year’s list of new fund rollouts with nearly $38 million in trading volume.

SEC Makes Spot Crypto ETF Listing Process Easier, Approves Grayscale’s Large-Cap Crypto Fund

by admin September 18, 2025

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Wednesday approved a set of rules for exchanges to list exchange-traded products (ETPs) holding spot commodities, including cryptocurrencies, without requiring the agency’s individual review each time.

The decision will enable exchanges to proceed with the listing of proposed ETFs by sidestepping the often-lengthy 19(b) rule filing process that can take up to 240 days and requires the SEC to actively approve or disapprove an ETF.

Essentially, the process will be more streamlined than before.

ETF Issuers will approach exchanges (Nasdaq, NYSE, CBOE) with a product idea and desire to list their ETF. If the proposed strategy (token or combination of tokens) of the issuers meets the generic listing standard, then the exchange can proceed with listing the ETF.

SEC Chairman Paul Atkins said the decision was aimed at reducing barriers to accessing digital asset products in regulated U.S. marketplaces.

“By approving these generic listing standards, we are ensuring that our capital markets remain the best place in the world to engage in the cutting-edge innovation of digital assets,” SEC Chairman Paul Atkins said in a statement.

Alongside the rule change, the agency signed off on the Grayscale Digital Large Cap Fund, which tracks the assets in the CoinDesk 5 Index and currently consists of bitcoin BTC$116,694.56, ether (ETH), XRP XRP$3.0902, Solana SOL$245.57 and Cardano ADA$0.9142.

The regulator also approved the launch of options tied to the Cboe Bitcoin U.S. ETF Index and its mini version, broadening the set of crypto-linked derivatives available on regulated U.S. markets.

Big move for altcoin ETFs

The SEC’s listing standards could potentially open the way for a wave of spot-based altcoin ETFs that have been waiting for regulators’ nod to enter the market.

“This is the crypto ETP framework we’ve been waiting for,” James Seyffart, ETF research analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence, said in an X post. “Get ready for a wave of spot crypto ETP launches in coming weeks and months.”

Echoing this sentiment, Kristin Smith, the President of Solana Policy Institute, said, “We are incredibly encouraged by tonight’s news: the SEC continues to promote the rule of law by setting clear rules of the road for US businesses and to take positive steps to allow American investors to safely access digital assets.”

“These new generic listing standards are a net-positive for U.S. investors, markets, and digital asset innovation. Excited for the next wave of crypto adoption!,” she added.

UPDATE (Sept. 8, 12:05 UTC): Corrects 270 days to 240 days and clarifies the process of approval.

Shiba Inu (SHIB) to Add Zero, XRP Sees 221% Surge in Fund Inflows, Bitcoin Breaks 15-Year Record

by admin September 17, 2025

XRP investment products see $32.5 million weekly inflows

October XRP ETF countdown intensifies.

  • Massive jump. XRP investment products saw $32.5M in inflows last week.

XRP investment products pulled in $32.5 million last week, more than double the $14.7 million recorded a week earlier, according to CoinShares. That 221% rise makes it one of the standout performers among digital assets, especially as fund inflows across the market picked up again after a quiet start to the month.

Bitcoin products continue to be the most popular crypto-tied investment opportunity, with $2.4 billion in new money, and Ethereum managed to stop losing funds by adding $645 million. Solana also made $198 million.

  • Relative strength. While XRP inflows are smaller in absolute terms, its growth rate outpaced most major crypto assets.

In the cut, XRP’s rise looks smaller in dollar terms, but it has a higher growth rate than other currencies. In September alone, XRP products attracted almost $48 million, taking the total for the year to date to $1.45 billion. The total value of assets under management that are linked to XRP is now $2.94 billion.

Shiba Inu faces reversal after failed breakout

Shiba Inu might actually add a zero.

  • Failed breakout. SHIB briefly surged above $0.000015 in early September, but quickly lost momentum.

Once again, Shiba Inu has found itself in a precarious position following what seemed to be a bullish breakout. The token experienced a brief surge in value in early September, testing the critical resistance zone around $0.000015.

However, momentum soon stalled, resulting in a dramatic reversal. Because of the rejection, traders are now more worried that SHIB might drop back to its summer lows or, worse, lose another decimal place if bearish pressure picks up speed.

  • Bearish risk. Traders fear a potential drop back to summer lows.

With the help of rising trading volume, SHIB was able to break out after weeks of consolidation in a tightening wedge pattern. Nevertheless, the rally did not last long. Because of strong selling pressure and the general lack of conviction on the market, the price was unable to hold above the $0.000015 mark.

Bitcoin breaks 15-year record in capital inflows

BTC outpaces 15 years of history.

  • Massive spike. Bitcoin added $625B to its realized cap in the last 18 months.

Bitcoin has shattered a 15-year record as recent data analysis reveals Bitcoin added more to its realized cap in the last 18 months ($625 billion) than in its first 15 years, when $435 billion were added.

In a recent tweet, CryptoQuant CEO Ki Young Ju highlighted a comparison of Bitcoin on-chain capital inflows. Between 2009 and 2024, a 15-year time frame, Bitcoin received capital inflows of $435 billion.

Meanwhile, in the last 18 months or 1.5 years, which spanned from 2024 to 2025, Bitcoin added $625 billion in capital inflows. Bitcoin’s realized cap, which values Bitcoin only when it moves, has surpassed $1 trillion, according to the chart.

Galaxy Digital Said to Plan Its Own Tokenized Money Market Fund

by admin September 17, 2025

Galaxy Digital (GLXY), the digital asset investment firm led by Mike Novogratz, is planning to release a tokenized money-market fund, according to two people familiar with the plan.

The New York City-based company is aiming to bring a more crypto-native twist to the range of traditional finance-led tokenized fund offerings, such as BlackRock’s BUIDL and Franklin Templeton’s BENJI token, said the people, who declined to be identified.

The Galaxy fund, which will debut in the coming months, will ultimately be available on the Ethereum, Solana and Stellar blockchains. That said, it won't appear on all three blockchains on day one, according to one of the people. Anchorage Digital is to be the custodian of the new fund.

“The overarching ambition is to use the power of tokenization to offer instant liquidity, and there’s a lot of innovation around that to come,” the person said. “Galaxy has had the benefit of seeing BUIDL and some of the other ones out there in the market, and seeing who's engaging with these funds, how they're engaging with them, and how that could be better.”

A representative for Galaxy Digital declined to comment on the fund. Anchorage Digital did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

BlackRock’s BUIDL fund, which now has a market cap of around $2.2 billion, went live on the Solana blockchain in March after debuting on Ethereum.

Bitwise Files for Avalanche ETF Ahead of US XRP, Dogecoin Fund Debuts

by admin September 16, 2025

In brief

  • Bitwise has filed to debut an ETF giving investors exposure to AVAX, the 19th-biggest digital coin by market cap.
  • The S-1 filing comes as Dogecoin and XRP ETFs are expected to hit the market this week.
  • Asset managers are hoping to get the green light for a number of altcoin ETFs.

Crypto asset manager Bitwise has filed the paperwork to debut an Avalanche exchange-traded fund just as new altcoin investment vehicles are expected to hit the U.S. market.

A Monday S-1 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission shows that the “Bitwise Avalanche ETF” would use America’s biggest exchange, Coinbase, to custody the digital assets.

Avalanche is the crypto network behind AVAX, the 19th-largest digital asset by market cap. Avalanche rivals Ethereum by offering a cheaper and faster blockchain that developers can use to build applications upon.

AVAX was recently trading for over $30 per coin after rising by more than 6% over a 24-hour period, CoinGecko data shows. VanEck and Grayscale have also filed with the SEC to launch AVAX ETFs.

Bitwise’s filing comes as other altcoin ETFs are nearing their U.S. market debut. ETFs giving investors exposure to XRP and Dogecoin are expected to list this week, courtesy of REX Shares and Osprey Funds.

Unlike the Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs that hit the market last year in the U.S., or the fund Bitwise wants to debut, these altcoin ETFs will offer investors exposure to Dogecoin and XRP via a subsidiary registered in the Cayman Islands that is wholly owned and controlled by the fund.

The Rex-Osprey funds were registered via the Investment Company Act of 1940, unlike the current crop of Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, which were registered like commodity trusts under the Securities Act of 1933.

The Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs give investors exposure to the two largest digital coins by market cap via the fund managers who hold the cryptocurrencies.

The SEC last year approved Bitcoin ETFs after a decade of denials. The funds had the most successful debut in the history of ETFs. The 12 funds now manage combined assets worth nearly $152 billion, according to SoSoValue data.

Later in 2024, it gave the green light to fund managers wanting to release Ethereum ETFs.

Now, the regulator has a long list of altcoin funds to approve from asset managers wanting to debut smaller cryptocurrencies.
