Baldur’s Gate 2 has great dungeons and epic quests, but my real love is for my fake friends: BioWare’s first truly great companions

by admin September 21, 2025

I loved the idea of Dungeons and Dragons when I was young, but can’t claim the same about playing it. Because I didn’t play it: Circumstances—small town boy, limited circle of friends, not very outgoing—meant that while I could and did spend hours poring over rules, sourcebooks, and even a few modules, I got very little in the way of actual playtime. A good, deep D&D adventure as I imagined them to be—basically Mazes and Monsters, minus the moral panic psychosis—was out of reach.

The first Baldur’s Gate changed all that, with great dungeons, an epic quest, and most important of all, a deep cast of characters with their own thoughts, beliefs, and personalities—and who, just like in the real world, would sometimes gel or clash with their fellows in unexpected ways.

Some became fast friends, others would try to literally murder each other, and a handful would just throw their hands up in disgust at my obvious incompetence and leave, after giving me a good telling-off of course.

Baldur’s Gate 2 raised the stakes with a more focused cast and wider range of interpersonal possibilities, plus an unpleasant kickoff that reminded me just how much these characters meant. Discovering that two beloved* party members from BG1 (your mileage may vary on that point, but they were with me from start to finish in the first game and would’ve been for BG2, too) had been killed in pre-game events—irretrievably, irreversibly, no-resurrecting-thing dead—was a genuine gut-shot: We’re supposed to be the heroes, and now a third of us are just… gone.

It took a while to get my head around that, but I was fortunate enough to find a new companion of poise, ability, and coolness while making my way out of that first dungeon: Yoshimo, an immediately likeable bounty hunter who proved his worth a dozen times over on our adventures across Amn. And then, after weeks of camaraderie and good times, he screwed me!

I trusted you, you beautiful bastard. (Image credit: BioWare, Wizards of the Coast)

I was less upset about Yoshimo’s betrayal than I might otherwise have been for two reasons. One, potential spoiler here—but come on, it’s been exactly 25 years—it wasn’t really his fault, right? Lawyers call it “The Geas Defense.” Two, speaking of spoilers, that major twist had been spoiled for me weeks earlier by a jerk in a Baldur’s Gate 2 IRC channel. I was seriously pissed off at the time and yes, I still harbor a grudge.

Anyway, even though I knew it was coming, I was still heartbroken in the moment. Yoshimo was such a good guy, a solid all-arounder, and I’d grown genuinely attached to him and his presence in my party. It wasn’t the betrayal that hurt, it was knowing that—like Khalid and Dynaheir, victims of the madness of Irenicus—he was gone forever.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

Party down

It sucked! But it’s also at the heart of why Baldur’s Gate 2 was, and is, so special to me. No game before or since has so perfectly captured the sense of a gang of pals (or occasional allies of convenience) roaming a massive fantasy world, butt-kicking for goodness.

And what a gang it was: The bloodthirsty berserker Korgan, occasionally setting aside his evil ways to mack on Mazzy Fentan, the halfling fighter desperate to be a paladin; sad Aerie and her broken wings, Valygar and his family problems, insecure Anomen, old friends Imoen, Minsc, and Jaheira, and of course Viconia, the original BioWare bad girl with a deeply-buried heart of gold—all of them and others shared the road with me in Baldur’s Gate 2.

I’d appreciate it if you didn’t bring up what happens to my Dark Elf gf Viconia in Baldur’s Gate 3. (Image credit: Larian)

And yes, I did put the smooth moves on Viconia. Of course I did! Videogame romances can be trite and formulaic these days, but 25 years ago that kind of NPC relationship was new, unexpected, and real in a way that gave it a sense of significance beyond the mechanical necessity of cranking out loyalty missions.

Related articles

Best of all, amidst that bantering, bickering crew was me, ostensibly the leader of the pack but also just one among many: Grown from a young half-elf caught up in events beyond my understanding to a seasoned adventurer, but with still so much to discover and learn. I called the shots but my companions had their own ideas, and I ignored them at my peril.

Baldur’s Gate 2 anniversary

25 years ago, one of the most important RPGs of all time was released onto PC, and today we’re celebrating that prestigious anniversary. You’ll find our thoughts and musings on what makes the game so special to us across the site, and we’ve also talked to the original developers about its ambitious and turbulent journey to release.

That’s what really sealed the Baldur’s Gate 2 deal for me: I wasn’t an unseen hand controlling an anonymous party of min-maxxed randos, I was that guy on the screen right there, and yes I was the boss but I was also getting yelled at by Jaheira on a regular basis and spending more time than I probably should wondering why I’m still putting up with Anomen’s bullshit. Sort out your daddy issues on someone else’s time, bud.

Baldur’s Gate 2 did so many great things: The art, the audio, and the huge, packed game world remain among the best of the RPG genre. But it was the decision to focus on the characters, and to make me one of their number, that elevated it from a great RPG to one of the most important and unforgettable videogames of all time.

It gave the game a feeling of tabletop authenticity I’d never previously experienced, and for someone who spent his youth on the outside looking in, suddenly having a seat at that table was nothing short of magical. That’s the real legacy of Baldur’s Gate 2 for me: Imoen, Jahiera, Minsc, Mazzy, and Viconia: Literally, and without a shred of irony, the friends I made along the way.

Xbox Turns Up the Fun With Friends, and It’s Crashing the Price of Its Wireless Controller

by admin September 20, 2025

Having a Xbox but not enough controllers kind of kills the fun, especially when playing with friends and family. What makes the console truly cool is those multiplayer moments, and nothing beats sharing the game with extra controllers on hand. The catch? Controllers aren’t always the easiest or cheapest to grab. That’s why timing your buy is key, and right now there’s a Black Friday-level deal on Amazon that’s too good to miss: The latest Xbox wireless gaming controller is available for $53, down from its original $64.

Contemporary Design Coupled with Comforting Play and Intelligent Features

Its modernized design features sculpted surfaces and refined geometry that fit comfortably in your hands, and keeps you gaming longer without fatigue. The textured grip on the triggers, bumpers and back case is there to make sure your fingers stay steady and controlled. And the new hybrid D-pad adds precise directional control which is a big deal whether you’re navigating tricky menus or battling opponents.

The Share button is perhaps the best feature of them all since it lets you snap and share your gameplay—screenshots, video, whatever—without breaking stride. It’s a simple way to share with friends or easily record your best victories.

The controller supports Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth which makes it simple to connect to many devices. If you’re playing on your Xbox console, alternating to playing with your Windows computer, launching games on Android or iOS, or even attaching it with Fire TV Sticks, smart TVs, or VR headsets, this controller lags behind none. With so much flexibility, you won’t need to keep multiple different controllers occupying valuable space.

And, to boot, players also have a lot of selection with sound: The 3.5mm headset jack will work with any supported headset, so you can simply plug in and talk or be completely enveloped in the game’s sound. The USB-C port lets you plug directly into your Xbox or PC for plug-and-play installation which is perfect if you are enthusiastic about a wired connection or charging during gaming.

All things considered, snagging this controller at $53 is a smart move whether you’re replacing an older one or expanding your multiplayer setup.

How to share your Gemini Gems custom AI experts with all your friends

by admin September 20, 2025

AI chatbots with a specific focus are a great way to skip having to explain what you want to do with an AI chatbot. Google created the Gemini Gems setup so that you’d be able to make and reuse those specialized chatbots whenever you want. Now, you can share your custom-made Gems with friends, family, or anyone else you share a link with.

All you have to do is hit the “Share” button on your custom Gem. That way, you can share, say, your toddler sleep schedule assistant or meal planner for someone in a rush, in the same way you’d share a Google Doc. They can view it, clone it, or even tweak it with your permission, as it’s basically Google Drive for AI assistants.

The Gems are otherwise the same, but they’re now portable. Consider how much of your digital life runs on shared docs, and then imagine if your AI helpers could do the same.

You may like

“This makes Gemini way more collaborative,” Google noted in its announcement, “turning your favorite Gems into a shared resource so you can prompt less and create more.” It’s a tagline with startup energy, but it’s not wrong.

And for organizations using Google Workspace, administrators can control how and where Gems can be shared, restricting sharing outside the domain if needed. The permissions map one-to-one with existing Drive policies, which means most people won’t have to learn anything new to use the feature.

Shared Gems

Functionally, this could reduce time spent retyping or re-explaining how to use AI to do a task. It might also surface use cases that people wouldn’t have built themselves.

If it sounds like a familiar idea, that’s because it’s not dissimilar to what ChatGPT offers with custom GPTs, except those get published to the whole world.

Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more.

It’s more efficient than the manual approach, wherein people take long prompts from Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity and share them on Reddit or other social media platforms. The difference is that Gems are persistent and can hold files, rules, and settings you’d typically have to reconfigure every session.

There are limits. Some Gems aren’t eligible for sharing, especially if they contain private uploads or link to sensitive data sources. And even when you do share a Gem, the recipient may need access to the files inside, like if it uses a personal Google Doc. The system mostly warns you when this might be a problem, but not always with excellent specificity.

And while sharing Custom GPTs has been an option for a while, sharing Gems is less tied to one platform and offers Drive-style collaboration settings. Gemini’s ability to piggyback on the infrastructure millions already use could give it an edge in that regard.

Mostly, though, it means those who enjoy making Gemini Gems can share them with whoever they wish, and those who like using them but don’t want to make them might find some new favorites without having to ask what people wrote to get Gemini to perform.

Find Your Friends review: Female relations take center stage in unsettling survival horror

by admin September 20, 2025

Find Your Friends is a survival horror that pits female hedonism against toxic masculinity, before exploding in violent scenes that ask complicated questions of its characters, and the audience.

The feature debut of writer-director Izabel Pakzad, Find Your Friends is like a mash-up of indie darlings Spring Breakers and How to Have Sex, that transforms into a combo of horror classics Deliverance and Revenge.

And while it doesn’t quite reach the dizzy heights of those influences, the movie nevertheless tackles some heavy themes, to do with peer pressure, personal responsibility, and messy female friendship.

Article continues after ad

It also features an exciting young cast, playing characters that are more real and three-dimensional than the female folk usually found in this kind of fare.

What is Find Your Friends about?

Welcome to Italy

Find Your Friends revolves around a group of girlfriends vacationing together, and determined to have as much fun as is legally possible, while also sometimes indulging in the illegal.

Article continues after ad

Proceedings commence at a yacht party, where the group is dancing, flirting, drinking, discussing dicks, smoking weed, and snorting coke. Making these early scenes feel like an episode of Girls Gone Wild.

Article continues after ad

Amber (the superb Helena Howard) isn’t having as good a time as her friends however, as her ex has shown up with a new woman. So she goes extra hard, then somewhat dazed and confused, finds herself below deck with a guy who won’t take no for an answer.

That assault fundamentally – and understandably – changes Amber for the rest of the movie, for while she doesn’t initially tell her friends what has happened, she nevertheless blames them for leaving her alone with such a predator. While she’s also clearly suffering PTSD from the assault.

Article continues after ad

For those reasons, the friendship group – which includes modern-day scream queen Bella Thorne – starts to subtly fracture, but they nevertheless plough on with the party, heading to the desert for an EDM gig where more drink and drugs are consumed, and a creepy trio of guys spoil their vibe.

Article continues after ad

Amber senses danger, and when her gang doesn’t feel the same, storms off on her own. Which is when Amber’s holiday goes from bad to worse, and Find Your Friends shifts from dark drama to tense survival horror.

Toxic men and toxic friends

Though while the threat that she – and eventually the rest of the group – is forced to confront turns terrifying, it’s also pretty predictable, and something horror fans have seen in countless similar films.

But what elevates Pazkard’s script is that it isn’t really concerned with awful men doing terrible things, as that’s almost a given in this world. Rather it focuses on decisions our protagonists make that put them in those dangerous situations, then how they react when the trouble starts.

Article continues after ad

Because when Amber finally speaks her truth, there’s a disturbing lack of concern, empathy, or support from her nearest and dearest, which is maybe understandable based on her erratic behavior, but also deeply upsetting when we know the pain that she’s in.

Article continues after ad

It’s uncomfortable and upsetting to watch, but also not much of a surprise, as our heroes are girls who are loud, rude, and vulgar, which makes them quite a boring hang. But based on this evidence, they’re simply a product of their environment, surrounded by frat culture and guys who are trying to get them drunk, and high, and into bed.

Article continues after ad

So while Find Your Friends works as a perfectly functional horror movie when the survival stuff starts, it’s arguably more interesting before the horror kicks in.

Is Find Your Friends good?

From minute one, Find Your Friends is an assault on the senses, with hand-held style camerawork putting us in the midst of the girls’ hedonistic ways.

Montages of them dancing to electro and talking about sex get a bit repetitive, but they’re in service to a story about what the world expects of these women, versus what they expect of each other and themselves.

Article continues after ad

Article continues after ad

All of which leads to an uncompromising examination of female group dynamics, followed by a more straightforward battle of the sexes.

Find Your Friends score: 3/5

When it’s not leaning into well-worn survival horror tropes, Find Your Friends is a thought-provoking directorial debut from Isabel Pakzad, about how society treats young women, as well as the complicated ways in which they treat each other.

Find Your Friends was reviewed at Fantastic Fest, while the film’s release date is TBD. For more scary stuff, check out our list of the best horror movies ever.

Tom Lee: ‘Bitcoin and Ethereum Are Friends’

by admin September 11, 2025

Fundstrat’s Tom Lee, who has emerged as the patron saint of the Ethereum community, has clarified that there is no rivalry between him and Strategy founder Michael Saylor.

Lee has posted a selfie with Saylor, stressing that Ethereum and Bitcoin are “friends.”

As reported by U.Today, Lee previously attracted criticism from members of the Bitcoin community for aggressively pivoting to Ethereum promotion with BitMine Technologies.

Lee became the chairman of BitMine, which specializes in immersive cooling technologies, in June and quickly turned the company into the leading Ethereum treasury vehicle.

Recently, Lee made some controversial statements, which have ruffled the feathers of the Bitcoin community. In particular, Lee predicted that the leading cryptocurrency could surpass Ethereum by market cap, forecasting that the latter could be a better macro trade over the next decade.

As reported by U.Today, the BitMine chairman has also attracted some criticism for fundraising off of Bitcoin’s logo, which some critics thought was rather misleading.

That said, the Bitmain chairman also remains bullish on Bitcoin, recently predicting that the price of the leading cryptocurrency could reach $200,000.

In the meantime, BitMine has now approached a total of $9.3 billion in total holdings after the company recently purchased another $200 million worth of the flagship altcoin.

Meanwhile, Saylor’s Strategy remains the biggest Ethereum treasury company by an enormous margin, currently holding a total of $3 billion worth of assets.

Venture forth to save Princess Gwaelin and all of Torland with new features and friends in DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D REMAKE

by admin September 4, 2025

Today, Square Enix revealed new information about DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D REMAKE. New items and features have been added to enhance battles, allowing for new strategies to defeat monsters.

In DRAGON QUEST I, players take on the role of the Hero, a descendant of the great Erdrick, and are tasked with saving Princess Gwaelin of Tantegel. The Hero is the only character in your party for this adventure, but he’s quite a versatile fighter, able to use Sizz- and Zap-type spells in addition to sword abilities like Dragon Slash.

He can also make use of the Sigils, which originally appeared in DRAGON QUEST II. By helping the fairies, the Hero can activate the Sigils effects in battle. For example, when the Sun Sigil appears (indicated by a mark on screen), some special abilities will deal critical damage. When the Soul Sigil triggers, certain spells and abilities will change, like Dragon Slash becoming Double Dragon Slash. Each Sigil has a different effect, so players can experiment and discover what they do as they play.

In DRAGON QUEST II, the player now controls a full party of four as opposed to the original’s three. The Prince of Midenhall, the Prince of Cannock, and the Princess of Moonbrooke are joined by the Princess of Cannock, an airheaded girl who can sometimes get distracted in the middle of battle. She’s quick and agile, able to perform a variety of special moves in addition to casting Frizz- and Crack-type spells.

The Prince of Midenhall is the party’s physical powerhouse, able to use attacks like Knuckle Sandwich and Hatchet Man. He can also protect the party with Forbearance, making him effective at both offense and defense.

The Prince of Cannock is more of an all-rounder, able to swing swords and sling spells in equal measure, all while healing and supporting his allies. He can also learn the iconic Gigaslash ability to devastate enemies with a blade of lightning.

Finally, the Princess of Moonbrooke is a powerful mage, casting spells like Boom to hit all enemies. She’s not all offense though, and can use spells like Oomph and Insulate to support the party.

In addition to make use of the Sigils the party finds throughout the game, they can also learn new spells through scrolls. Scrolls can be found all over the world, and using them will allow one character to learn a new spell or skill. Not every character can make use of every skill, however, so players need to use them wisely. Scrolls are in both titles, so presumably the Hero of DRAGON QUEST I will be able to use any and all he finds.

Finally, players can enable suggest actions in battle settings, which will give them a helping hand when selecting actions, such as highlighting which spells will exploit an enemy’s weakness.

DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D REMAKE releases on October 30th, 2025, for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. For more on all things DRAGON QUEST, stay tuned to GamingTrend.

Discord Communities Targeted by Scammers Posing as Trusted Friends

by admin September 1, 2025

Last month, crypto user and NFT artist Princess Hypio told her followers she lost $170,000 in crypto and non-fungible tokens after a scammer convinced her to play a game with them on Steam.

While she was “mindlessly” playing with the scammer, they were secretly stealing her funds and hacking her Discord. The same tactic was used on three of her other friends, she wrote in a post on Aug. 21 on X.

Source: Princess Hypio

It turns out, the tactic has been around for a while and is known by some as the “try my game” scam, which users have been reporting for years in different forms.

Speaking to Cointelegraph, Kraken’s chief security officer, Nick Percoco, said these methods have become an increasingly popular attack method

“Try my game” hack: How it works

The crypto version of the scam involves a hacker joining a Discord server or group, lying in wait, learning about how users interact with each other and later using that information to gain trust.

The hacker then asks users if they own crypto or NFTs, often feigning interest to ask questions and gauge what digital assets they might own. In Princess Hypio’s case, they had a Milady NFT, which resulted in her being targeted.

After identifying a target with crypto, the hacker invites victims to play a game, sending a link to a server with Trojan malware that provides access to user devices, which allows them to steal personal information and drain any connected wallets.

In Princess Hypio’s case, the ploy involved convincing her to download a game on Steam by offering to buy it for her. The game itself was safe, but the server on which the game was being hosted was malicious.

She lost $170,000 from the attack, she said.

It comes only days after Discord released its deceptive practices policy explainer, warning that promoting or carrying out financial scams on the social platform violates the terms of use.

“These scams do not exploit code; they exploit trust. Attackers impersonate friends and pressure people into taking actions they normally would not take,” said Percoco.

“The biggest vulnerability in crypto is not code, it is trust. Scammers exploit community spirit and curiosity to take advantage of good intentions.”

Attackers embed themselves in communities, learn the culture, mimic trusted friends, and then strike, he said.

Scammer tactic moving past crypto

In February, a user under the handle RaeTheRaven posted to the Malwarebytes forum that they had fallen prey to the “infamous scam” after someone they thought was a friend sent a link. A Reddit forum that started in July also warned of scams targeting gamers.

Another person reported being hit with the scam back in July, which resulted in a ransomware demand. Source: Malwarebytes

Percoco told Cointelegraph that while the crypto industry tends to see these scams first, the tactic spreads across sectors.

He said the best way to avoid being snared is to have a “healthy skepticism,” confirm identities through another channel, avoid running unknown software, and remember that “doing nothing is safer than taking a risky step.”

“If something feels rushed, generous, or too good to be true, it almost always is. Do not trust, verify.”

Fake recruitment campaigns even worse

However, Percoco also said that while the Discord scams are on the rise, a more widespread trend in crypto currently involves fake recruiters.

Related: North Korean hackers target crypto devs with fake recruitment tests

In a recent June case, a North Korea-aligned threat actor targeted job seekers in the crypto industry with malware designed to steal passwords for crypto wallets and password managers.

“Discord impersonation is rising quickly, but the most widespread trend we are tracking today is fake recruitment campaigns where victims are lured with job offers and tricked into clicking phishing links,” Percoco said.

Meet Freddy Fazbear and Friends at Halloween Horror Nights’ ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ House

by admin August 29, 2025

Take a look inside the Five Nights at Freddy’s house at Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights. It looks like a real Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza location right out of the mind of game creator Scott Cawthon and Emma Tammi’s cinematic adaptation.

io9 was invited to a behind-the-scenes walkthrough of the Hollywood attraction based on the video game and Blumhouse film franchise, opening at HHN ahead of December’s Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.  Creative director John Murdy took us through to highlight the incredible work done between Horror Nights, Cawthon, and Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.

The latter provided incredible puppets to bring the iconic FNAF characters to haunting life, powered by Universal’s own team of animatronic engineers. “Going back to our Chucky house, we have a group that works for our tech services department that are young mechanical engineers—they just happen to all love Horror Nights and a few years ago they were coming to us and saying, ‘Hey, we’d love to work with you guys and try to do actual animatronics, which we’ve never done.’” Murdy shared. The Chucky animatronics in the HHN attraction inspired by the Syfy series featured pint-sized and giant versions of the terror titan killer doll.

Murdy continued, “We’ve gotten a lot more technologically advanced with the skillset of this particular group, so they built like 17 animated Chuckys that year we did Chucky, and then last year they built a lot of stuff for A Quiet Place. This year they’re doing the T-60 [from Fallout] for us and they’re also doing the hero Freddy Fazbear [as a] fully electronic character.”

He shared about getting to combine tech with the practical elements of their haunted houses, in particular FNAF, which has been a top-requested property for the event. “A lot of this is simply fan wish fulfillment. It’s like, OK, let’s go for it; let’s give them the houses they’ve been dying to get. And that kind of rolled through the whole development process. This house was developed a little differently than all our other houses up to this point. We always collaborate with our sister park in Orlando, but usually that collaboration is more along the lines of, ‘OK, what’s the main story we want to tell?’ [And] when we made our list of what we wanted from the movie based on the first movie to be in this house, there was nothing we didn’t do. We got every single thing on our list.”

The traditional haunt is, of course primarily scareactors in costumes, but for Five Nights at Freddy’s, the challenges posed really needed safer solutions for performers first and foremost. Reaching out to Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, which worked on the puppets used in the Blumhouse FNAF film and on Universal Fan Fest Nights, was the obvious course of action.

“The other big thing we knew early on was that in order to pull this off, we really needed to work with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. [They] had to build so many creatures and they had to learn how to do it for us,” Murdy explained. “It’s really different when you’re making a movie. You know, with Five Nights at Freddy’s, [there are] puppeted figures, and there are guys in suits [on a movie set]. Guys in suits are out of the question for us because you can do that in a movie for—typically when the cameras are rolling—it’s like a minute or two until they cut and then [the costume] comes off. The performer can go to their trailer and chill out. That’s not how it works in Halloween Horror Nights. Our performers need to be on set for roughly about 45 minutes and then they’re taking a 45-minute break, and then they’re back on set. So we needed to figure out the ergonomics behind all of this as well as the aesthetics, and so it was a big collaboration with Henson. We’ve been in meetings with them every week for well over a year.”

The set immersing park guests into the environment of a Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza was also very important to the HHN teams and Murdy confirmed Hollywood and Orlando’s houses are virtually alike save for some small differences. Both teams worked hard to include as many Easter eggs from the film, such as kid’s art alluding to the yellow rabbit and the training video, which will play as guests enter a night of security guard watch.

Right off the bat you enter the restaurant parlor area with the stage, where the animatronics come to life with puppeteers supplemented by scareactors. “There’s a lot of puppets, but we wanted that human factor as well, like the classic jump scare that are kind of the bread and butter of haunted houses. So that’s where we’re using the ghost kids and we’re also using all of those guys who broke in and trashed the place,” Murdy said. Foxy is teased with eerie music as you venture throughout as if you’re Mike Schmidt (played by Josh Hutcherson in the movies) on a security shift.

As you go along, you’ll encounter not only Freddy but also come face to face with Chica with Carl the Cupcake, Bonnie, Foxy, and of course Yellow Bonnie. In order to really capture how these set-piece fights will be effective, Murdy described the mechanics of the scare with Freddy Fazbear.

“In the Chucky house, we created this character we called Mega Chucky. How that worked is there’s a track above the performer’s head and what’s called a traveler. The performer is kind of like strapped into this thing. The monitor for the performer to see is inside the figure itself, and then they’ve got shoes that connect to the feet of the character, so they’re actually able to kind of take a few steps.”

“So we did that for [Freddy] he’s right over here on a big traveler track, so he has the ability [to] come out from there [and] take steps [toward guests].”

You don’t have to be a FNAF diehard to enjoy the work that went into this house, but of course there’s plenty for the fandom, including a certain striped cup and foil ball on the security desk (IYKYK). The nostalgia was so real and Murdy revealed that scents will harken to the ’90s era of pizza arcade casinos so many of us grew up with.

“Like there’s something still lingering in this environment because it was a family entertainment center,” is how he described the aromatics of the house. “[A place] where they served a lot of pizza and a lot of popcorn and a lot of that kind of stuff. I think in the showroom, it’s more of a popcorn thing. The pizza’s [scent] in the kitchen, I believe.”

And of course the mood will be set throughout with the music from the franchise, with the iconic theme greeting you when you enter: “It’s particularly in the facade, and then the rest of it is all score music from the film.” As a Henson puppet fan, I’m stoked to see the characters in action and having attended HHN for decades, I can attest that the Five Nights at Freddy’s house takes things to a new level for theme park haunts.

The Five Nights at Freddy’s house will open the doors to Freddy Fazbear’s come September 4 at Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights. For ticket info visit here.

No Man’s Sky adds fully customisable multi-crew spaceships you can build and fly with your friends

by admin August 27, 2025

Space can be a lonely place, what with it being – as a wise man once famously put it – so vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big and all. Which is where No Man’s Sky new Voyagers update comes in. Now, those long treks across the infinite expanse needn’t be quite so lonely thanks to the introduction of multi-crew space ships you can build, pilot, and stroll around with friends.

Customisable ships – not to be confused with No Man’s Sky’s existing customisable freighters, which essentially serve as gargantuan deep space bases – have been at the top of many a fan’s wishlist for quite some time. And today’s Voyagers update look to deliver and then some. After progressing to a certain point in the story, players gain access to a hangar-like workshop where new Corvette spaceships can be engineered both outside and within. Customisable components include hulls, wings, landing gear, engine parts, thrusters, and weapons, and all can be arranged to suit players’ whims.

And then there’s the habitable interior. “Add sleeping quarters,” developer Hello Games explains, “and you are ready to welcome a crew of friends on board. Add a mission radar and you are ready for adventure. A teleporter and you have an away team.” There’s also talk of med-bays and war rooms, or you can just add a window and watch the universe go by. And for thrillseekers, it’s even possible to flip open the Corvette’s airlock and go for a space walk together or, once within a planet’s atmosphere, sky dive to the ground.

While newcomers to No Man’s Sky won’t have immediate access to Corvette construction given its unlock requirements, they’ll still be able to experience the feature in a brand-new limited-time Expedition. Alongside the usual array of cosmetic rewards, this’ll also unlock some ship parts players might find useful when trying to build their own vehicles in the core sim.

Hello Games says it’s had to rework “almost every part” of No Man’s Sky to accommodate Corvettes and their relative spaces, and to ensure crews can still roam their ship’s corridors and continue editing during the likes of warp jumps and planetary approaches. Much of the tech, it says, is shared with its upcoming Light No Fire, which will feature vast oceans players can similarly explore together on a single boat. This isn’t the first time No Man’s Sky has adopted technology implemented for Hello Games’ Earth-sized planet sim.

And it sounds like Hello Games is still far from done. “The most exciting thing about Voyagers for me,” writes Hello Games’ boss Sean Murray, “is the possibilities it opens in the future for No Man’s Sky, and I can’t wait to see where the team takes it from here.” And if you want to know more about No Man’s Sky’s Voyagers update, full patch notes can be found over here.

No Man’s Sky adds buildable custom spaceships big enough to fit all your friends on board

by admin August 27, 2025

How many bases do you need in a single game? Ask someone who likes base-building, like me, and they’ll probably say “As many as you can give me.”

No Man’s Sky already has a few kinds of player bases. Base-building was added to the space sandbox in 2016, along with freighters that can be parked in orbit and customized. Settlements can also be built and managed, which is like making an entire alien town your base.

And in the new No Man’s Sky Voyagers update, you can build and customize huge new ships called Corvettes that are big enough to fly around the galaxy with your friends acting as crew. You can even get out of the cockpit while in flight, stroll around the ship, and edit the layout while you’re in transit.

“These ships have real interiors, med-bays, sleeping quarters, war rooms, radars, teleporters. It comes with you everywhere, which totally changes how you play. Decorating it with your friends gives you a space that you share together,” Sean Murry said in an email sent to PC Gamer. “Having multiple Corvettes flying over a planet together is incredible, especially when you pop the hatch and spacewalk or skydive from one ship to the other!”

Yep, you can jump right out and float around in space, or if you’re in the atmosphere, do a bit of skydiving, as you can see in the Voyagers trailer below.

For those of you who were hoping this announcement from Murray would involve Light No Fire, well, the planet-sized fantasy sandbox did get a mention, too. The same ship-building tech will appear in Light No Fire, though there it’ll be for the boats you need to cross the realistically massive oceans.

Along with the trailer, you can watch a more in-depth video about Voyager below. The update is live right now, and includes a new expedition so you can get started building your new mobile spaceship base.
