‘Wednesday’ Star Evie Templeton on Agnes’ Progression From Stalker to Friend

by admin September 12, 2025

During a chat on the official Wednesday podcast—or rather, woecast—Nevermore newcomer Evie Templeton discussed Agnes coming into her own after being an unhinged stalker fan of Netflix’s favorite Addams.

After Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) lays into her at the end of the second season of the Tim Burton show, seemingly to push her to be herself in the meanest way possible, Agnes gets gutted emotionally in a way that could have been a villain origin but goes in a surprisingly positive direction.

“I think the important message in this episode is that it’s okay to stand out and it’s okay to be yourself and being yourself is the best version of yourself that you can be, it’s okay to stand in your individuality,” she said of the moment Wednesday stopped the pick-me energy dead in its tracks. “I think it’s just a moment of pure devastation. I mean, all of her efforts have really led to nothing and she’s tried so hard and put so much into this that it’s really just a moment of pure heartbreak; to be told by her idol that she’s failed and that she’s not good enough is really heart-wrenching for her.”

She noted, “I think it also acts as quite a pivotal moment because after this she sort of embraces her own individuality and she breaks out of her braids”—meaning the copycat hairstyle that made her look more like Wendy’s mascot than her idol.

Templeton’s hopes for Wednesday’s stalker-turned-crime-solving partner lie in her becoming friends with Enid (Emma Myers) instead of seeing her as competition. “Well, I think they have a lot in common. They both admire Wednesday so much, and I think they can both also recognize that beneath Wednesday’s stern, stony exterior that she has a lot of compassion inside, and she’s a very loyal friend.”

The new friendship gets solidified with their showstopping performance to Lady Gaga’s “The Dead Dance” at the gala.

“I think it’s in the moment where she’s obviously in her beautiful green dress, and she’s got her new hairstyle, that she sort of realizes that [Enid’s] be-your-own-psycho advice has really impacted her in the best way possible, and I think that’s a really important message, especially for my generation, to not feel like you have to conform, and to understand that you can break out of the mold and be yourself, and not to feel pressured into being what everyone else thinks you should be.”

Templeton continued to sing her dance partner’s praises, which is a great place for an Enid and Agnes team-up to start. “Emma is the sweetest girl. She’s so, so nice. I mean, we have a lot in common, which was great. That [Gaga dance sequence] was something that kind of connected us from the beginning.”

She hopes it solidifies Agnes’ place in the friend group as their invisibility-powered partner in mystery solving. “I really want to see that trio dynamic. I’d like to see how that progresses, like the Three Musketeers.”

Wednesday season two is now streaming on Netflix.

I Hate My AI Friend

by admin September 9, 2025

Schiffmann seems to be doing well, compared to the last times either of us spoke to him. When he first announced the Friend, he talked about how he had come up with the idea for an AI buddy while traveling alone and yearning for companionship. Schiffmann posits himself as older now, wiser, more experienced than he was when he first debuted the Friend necklace. (He is 22.) He has grown out his hair and cultivated a beard, and he seems to have more real-life personal connections than when he first created the idea for Friend. In our meeting, he asked us not to unbox the devices in front of him because he is in love with someone and wants the first time he witnesses a Friend unboxing to be with her.

Schiffmann says the Friend’s personality reflects a worldview close to his own; that of a man in his early twenties. But Schiffmann can be brash, snarky, and vocally unconcerned about critical feedback, and it seems like that attitude has carried over to the device he has infused with his essence. In this era of cloyingly obsequious chatbots, it could seem refreshing to interact with an AI companion that isn’t unfailingly sycophantic. But the Friend often goes hard in the other direction. Its tone comes off as opinionated, judgy, and downright condescending at times.

We tested our two Friend pendants over the course of a couple of weeks, carrying them along with us as we went about our days separately, talking to them and getting to know how they work. While we had very different experiences, we both came away with the gut feeling that our new Friends were real bummers.

Kylie’s Experience

As I opened the Friend’s box, it brought me back to the time I cracked open my first iPod. That was by design, according to Schiffmann, who patterned the packaging after Apple’s audio player and Microsoft’s Zune, with liner notes inspired by the Radiohead album Pablo Honey. Within its white box, the Friend pendant glowed under a piece of parchment paper. It was nearly dead on arrival, and I had to charge it before I could use it. Our first interaction was a chime alerting me to its low battery.

I couldn’t find satisfactory environments to test the always-listening Friend; the concerns about digital eavesdropping made it too much of a gamble. I couldn’t take it to meetings with my editors, and it felt uncomfortable to ask comms folks if I could bring it to a coffee chat. God forbid I use it in a call with a source.

According to Friend’s privacy disclosure, the startup “does not sell data to third parties to perform marketing or profiling.” It may however use that data for research, personalization, or “to comply with legal obligations, including those under the GDPR, CCPA, and any other relevant privacy laws.” In other words, there’s a whole litany of ways the private conversations I have with people could make their way out into the ether.

Pixel phones can now stream music for you and a friend at the same time

by admin September 3, 2025

Pixel phones will now be able to stream audio to multiple headphones at once thanks to expanded Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast support. If you have a Pixel 8 or newer, you’ll now be able to pair two headphones at a time. That means you can make your friend listen to the new Nourished by Time single with you on the bus, or catch up on Alien Earth with your significant other on a plane.

You’ll be able to create a private broadcast and share it to multiple headphones with a QR code or using Fast Pair — perfect for those times when you’re insisting to a room full of people that they absolutely have to listen to Disintegration Loops on headphones to appreciate it.

Of course, if you want to host a depressing silent disco, your friends will need headphones that also support LE Audio. Google is expanding Android support to multiple Sony models, including the LinkBuds S, WF-1000XM5, InZone Buds, LinkBuds Open, LinkBuds Fit, WH-1000XM6, and InZone H9 II. That’s in addition to existing support for hearing aids, Samsung’s Galaxy phones, and certain Xiaomi devices.

In addition to LE Audio support, Google is also updating the Pixel Buds Pro 2 with Adaptive Audio. That means you can take advantage of active noise cancellation, but still stay aware of your surroundings. So, you won’t hear the constant din of traffic while out for a walk, but if someone honks their horn as you’re about to step out into the street, it’ll cut through. It will also include Loud Noise Protection, which will save your precious eardrums in case a firetruck goes screaming by, sirens blaring.
