Ninja defends Kai Cenat as Twitch star’s Fortnite skin sparks criticism

by admin August 21, 2025

Ninja is coming to the defense of Twitch star Kai Cenat after Fortnite added his skin to the game ahead of prominent creators more associated with the battle royale.

On August 19, Kai Cenat unveiled his new Fortnite skin, part of the Icon Series lineup, on the Las Vegas Sphere.

While Kai is one of the biggest names in the streaming world, some fans have taken issue with the AMP star getting a skin instead of Fortnite players or other streamers such as IShowSpeed.

Surprisingly, Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins, someone who has had beef with Cenat in the past, stepped up to support Kai, explaining why it’s not as big of a deal some are making it out to be.

Ninja responds to Kai Cenat Fortnite skin backlash

During a broadcast, viewers inquired why Kai was getting a skin and Ninja had a simple reply.

“There are creators who have Icon skins and then there’s just Icons,” Belevins explained. “It’s safe to say he’s up there in the streaming scene.”

Going through the roster of skins, Ninja said that a Speed skin would be “great” too, but added that Epic doesn’t just pump out cosmetics.

“These things are spaced out, so we can still see a Speed one in the future and there are loads of people who don’t play this game every day.”

Of note, Ninja pointed to the Eminem, Billie Eilish and Harry Kane skins as famous people not exactly associated with Fortnite, and there was more room for streamers to get skins.

Ninja emphasised that Kai is an Icon and the fact that he’s not getting a Creator Skin means he’s not taking a skin away from someone.

Furthermore, he was convinced that Kai would be playing Fortnite a lot during his upcoming Mafiathon 3 after setting a Twitch subscriber record last year with 728,535.

The Kai Cenat collab is set to arrive on September 12, 2025.

‘Play Instantly on Discord’: Fortnite will be Nvidia and Discord’s first instant game demo

by admin August 18, 2025

Nvidia’s GeForce Now is getting a big upgrade next month — and it’s also part of an intriguing new experiment. Nvidia, Discord, and Epic Games have teamed up for an early test of instant game demos for Discord servers, which could theoretically let you immediately try a game without buying it, downloading it, or signing up for an account.

“You can simply click a button that says ‘try a game’ and then connect your Epic Games account and immediately jump in and and join the action, and you’ll be playing Fortnite in seconds without any downloads or installs,” says Nvidia product marketing director Andrew Fear.

Here’s a screenshot of what it might look like, from an Nvidia video, which also shows the Fortnite demo is currently limited to a 30-minute free trial:

It doesn’t sound completely frictionless if you still need an Epic Games account to play, and it’s not clear if Nvidia, Epic and Discord will offer the demo outside of Gamescom just yet. Nvidia is calling it a “technology announcement” rather than a confirmed feature, one that’ll hopefully see game publishers and developers reach out if they’re interested in potentially adding it to their games.

After Sony bought Gaikai in 2012, it initially suggested it would offer instant try-before-you-buy game demos on the PlayStation 4 too, but that never happened. Years later, Gaikai’s founder told me that publishers didn’t necessarily want it.

Kai Cenat set to reveal his own Fortnite Icon Series skin

by admin August 18, 2025

Kai Cenat has just “leaked” that he’s getting his own Icon Series skin in Fortnite, announcing when fans can finally take a first look at it.

Nowadays, Fortnite isn’t merely known for being a Battle Royale title. Thanks to the expanding list of collabs, the title has truly evolved into a pop culture phenomenon.

In addition to featuring all kinds of fictional characters and real-life personalities, the game has also brought popular content creators and streamers to the island, such as Ninja, NickEh30, and Clix.

It turns out, the next one to join the Icon Series lineup is no other than Twitch streamer Kai Cenat, as seen in a recent announcement. Here’s everything you need to know about the reveal.

Kai Cenat “leaks” his own Fortnite Icon Series Skin

Kai Cenat shared the announcement in a post on X, claiming that there’s a “huge announcement” regarding a Fortnite Icon Series Reveal tomorrow at  8:30 PM PST/11:30 PM EST.

This, of course, came off as quite a surprise to the community, considering dataminers usually leak skins early. Though there are occasionally some exceptions that catch people off guard, like this one.

One thing that’s worth pointing out, however, shortly after the announcement, the official Fortnite account retweeted Kai’s post, confirming that he really is about to get his own skin.

Epic didn’t spoil any details further in their post, though they did give a playful nudge by saying “leaked.”

Either way, even though the skin has yet to be revealed, looking at past Icon Series skins, we can expect it to come with additional cosmetics, such as a pickaxe, back bling, and emote, among others.

This isn’t the first time Kai has worked with Epic. In 2024, Kai Cenat, Sketch, and the AMP team were featured in the Reload trailer.

Since then, Sketch has received his own emote, while Kai is about to get his own collab added. In terms of Fortnite, Kai has also done a marathon stream with iShowSpeed, in which they challenged themselves to keep streaming until they secured a Victory Royale.

FTC issues $126 million in Fortnite refunds, gives eligible players an extra 2 weeks to apply for their money back

by admin June 26, 2025

The US Federal Trade Commission has issued a new wave of refunds totalling $126 million to Fortnite players who were charged for unintentional purposes, and reopened the claims process to allow people who missed it the first time around another chance to get their money back.

The refunds stem from a 2022 settlement between the FTC and Epic Games, which saw Epic agreed to pay a total of $520 million in penalties over allegations that it violated the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and used “dark patterns” to trick Fortnite players into making unwanted purchases. $275 million of that amount was a penalty for violating COPPA, while the remaining $245 million was earmarked for refunds to consumers who made those unwanted purchases.

The first wave of refunds went out in December 2024, to the tune of $72 million issued over more than 629,000 payments. This second round is even bigger: More than $126 million in total, in 969,173 payments being sent out over June 25 and 26. And the FTC does not dick around with V-Bucks or account credits: The refunds will be issued as either cheques or PayPal payments.

Man in wheelchair quit school after making five figures a month through Fortnite

by admin June 23, 2025

A man who is wheelchair bound due to a rare form of muscular dystrophy has revealed how he’s able to make £10,000 a month by working with Fortnite players.

To some people, Fortnite has been a life-changing experience, kickstarting their journey to becoming well-known faces in the community, whether that’s as a content creator, streamer, map designer, or even professional player.

Like many other fans, 22-year-old Ross McLaren, who’s wheelchair-bound due to a rare form of muscular dystrophy, becoming a professional Fortnite player was also his initial dream.

But even after he realized he wasn’t “good enough” to do so, thanks to the game, he now earns £10,000 a month from his bedroom after quitting school, managing some of the most popular creators in the community.

Ross reveals how his disability enabled him to hone his craft in the gaming world

Ross started his business at just 17 years old when he was still living with his parents, Lesley and Craig. Speaking to the Daily Record, he said, “I really wanted to be a pro Fortnite player, but I realized I wasn’t good enough.”

He then got into video editing for professional players. In the beginning, he worked with small gaming streamers for free while he was still in school. As time passed, things took a different, positive turn.

“By summer 2021, I was making £10,000 per month, and I told my parents I didn’t want to sit my Advanced Highers,” he said. Despite his situation, however, his parents still had doubts and asked him to go back to school, though he quit after just one day.

Ross didn’t let his disability stop him from pursuing his craft. He explained, “Having muscular dystrophy was somewhat of an advantage for me as it meant I spent a lot more time on a computer when I was younger, as I couldn’t go out and play sports like other kids.”

At some point, he started offering his video editing services to small streamers “for fun.” Just when he was about to give up, he was hit with a golden opportunity. He mentioned that he was able to work with Bugha, who only had about 20,000 subscribers back then.

Then, one day, Bugha participated in the Fortnite World Cup in 2018 and won $3 million, and his subscriber count reached one million overnight.

Afterward, Ross and his business just kept getting even more similar opportunities, like working with another well-known face in the community, Clix. Top Fortnite streamers certainly earn a pretty penny, and Ross makes money off producing content from lucrative commissions.

Due to his parents’ pressure, Ross returned to George Heriot’s School for one day before calling it quits and getting another massive opportunity, as he was asked to run YouTube star KSI‘s gaming channel, which has over 22 million subscribers.

Ross is now a freelancer responsible for managing big icons such as Clix and esports org Sentinels. He’s hoping to move to Dallas to be closer to his clients in the future.

Squid Game Is Taking Over Fortnite Reload Next Week With A New Map

Squid Game Is Taking Over Fortnite Reload Next Week With A New Map

by admin June 23, 2025

Fortnite and Netflix are celebrating the launch of the final season of Squid Game next week by taking over Reload and dropping a pile of Squid Game-themed skins in the item shop. The new island, dubbed Squid Grounds, will be the fourth map for Reload, Fortnite’s smaller battle royale mode with automatic respawns. It’ll be the first time for any of Fortnite’s battle royale modes that an entire map is the product of a collaboration. The Fortnite x Squid Game party kicks off Friday, June 27, which is also when Season 3 of Squid Game drops on Netflix.

We don’t have any specifics about whether the Squid Game island will change up how the mode works–that tweet announcing it is the first official details we’ve gotten about Fortnite’s team-up with Squid Game. It’s probable that the new map will be based on locations from the series and will introduce Squid Game-themed weapons, but we really don’t know much.

We do, however, know what the map will look like, because the mini-map view has already leaked. But since it doesn’t have labels for its places of interest, it’s not very easy to parse what’s on it, or whether any of the locations are familiar. We’ll have to wait a little longer to find out what’s up, apparently.

But one other detail we do already have is that we’ll be getting Squid Game skins, presumably in the item shop. It appears right now as though we’ll get five male and five female Fortnite default characters wearing contestant track suits, with two of them being new faces–and you’ll be able to choose the number on the jacket. There will also be a red guard skin and a black guard skin, which will let you choose which icon is on their mask. And as you can see in the key art above, there also appears to be a skin based on the gigantic Red Light/Green Light animatronic doll.

When the new Squid Game map launches in Fortnite Reload on June 27 it’ll be the last of Fortnite’s core game modes to get major love this month. June has already given us new seasons of Battle Royale, Fortnite Festival, Lego Fortnite and Fortnite OG, a whole new mode in Blitz Royale, and a new map for Ballistic.

A Roblox game about growing vegetables is seemingly now bigger than Fortnite

A Roblox game about growing vegetables is seemingly now bigger than Fortnite

by admin June 18, 2025

Everybody loves palpating their turnips; just look at the success of Stardew Valley and its ilk for proof of that. But it turns out people really love some vegetable action, if the staggering success of Roblox game Grow a Garden is any indication, given it’s seemingly smashed through Fortnite’s previous gargantuan record for most players at the same time.

Let’s break out some numbers. According to third-party monitoring tools, Grow a Garden – the specifics of which we’ll get to shortly – soared past 16m concurrent players this weekend on Roblox (16,411,769 to be exact). By way of comparison, Fortnite announced record-breaking concurrents of 15.3m players during its Marvel season finale event back in Covid-era 2020.

So what, you may be wondering, has garnered all this attention? Grow a Garden is, according to its official description from developer The Garden Game, very much what it sounds like. It’s a game of buying seeds, shoving them in the ground, then waiting for your blueberries, coconuts, daffodils etc. to grow – which they’ll happily do whether you’re in-game or offline.

After that, you can sell your massive produce for profit, purchasing more seeds or temporary boosts you’ll need to slowly craft in real-time, then start the whole cycle over again. Frankly, absolutely nothing about it sounds like the sort of thing that might capture the imagination of 16m players all at once, but then I’m not a 13-year-old looking to do something mindless online with my friends after school. Also, there’re Grow a Garden pets, so maybe that’s the appeal.

As to how Grow a Garden’s impressive 16m concurrent users stacks up with other games, PUBG currently holds the Steam record for most concurrent players, coming in at a comparatively paltry 3.3m, while it’s nearest rival, Black Myth: Wukong, barely squeaks over the 2.4m player threshold. In fact, Steam itself recently saw a concurrent high of 40m players, so Grow a Garden’s 16m looks positively gargantuan given we’re talking about a single game.

Whether all those players should be playing Roblox is another matter entirely, of course, given the game continues to be embroiled in controversy amid ongoing accusations of child safety failures. Developer Roblox Corporation last year announced a sweep of policy changes – including updated parental controls and the banning of social hangouts for children under 13 – in a belated effort to improve things. Currently, Roblox Corporation is being investigated by the US Securities and Exchange Commission, possibly due to reports it previously misled investors by inflating player numbers, although the reason hasn’t been made public.

Lego Fortnite Expeditions is a mission-based PvE mode where you're up against an evil mask maker

Lego Fortnite Expeditions is a mission-based PvE mode where you’re up against an evil mask maker

by admin June 18, 2025

Lego Fortnite Expeditions’ existence isn’t much of a mystery given all the teasing Epic’s been giving it on social media recently, but the teasing has now made way for a full reveal. And what is it? Expeditions, it turns out, is a mission-based PvE mode where players join forces to thwart the nefarious plans of an evil mask maker. As for the when, it’s out this week.

Those wishing to embark on an Expeditions adventure will be enrolled in the Supernova Academy, where they’ll hang out with other players, chat with members of the faculty (including founder Vengeance Jones), and take on co-op missions pitting them against Mask Maker Daigo’s minions – which include sentient crystals, demon guards, and formidable Titans.

These missions whisk players (and as many as three friends) to key locations around the world map, including Utopia City, Spire Excavation Site, and Busted Bridge, with more – such as Demon’s Domain, where Daigo resides – coming after launch. As for what you’ll be doing out in the field, there’s talk of rescuing civilians, setting up comm relays, and deploying field generators, all while fending off waves of enemies – and if players can find moment to explore amid the chaos, they might uncover useful resources, currency, gear, and more.

LEGO Fortnite Expeditions – Super Gameplay TrailerWatch on YouTube

To aid in their adventures, players can switch between three distinct classes at will, each with their own XP-based skills trees. Shadow Caller, for instance, can summon projectiles that heal or deal damage; The Hunter is all about inflicting massive damage to a single target, while Rift Rippers can use their rift abilities against either single or multiple foes. Players can also randomly acquire gadgets and weapons – including Plasma Pistols, Dual Daggers, and the War Hammer – by spending Essence found during missions back at the academy.

As missions are completed, they’ll contribute to global goals known as Team Projects, and Epic also mentions Academy Assignments, additional objectives players can pick up from faculty members and tackle during their downtime.

Lego Fortnite Expeditions comes to all versions of Fortnite on 18th June, and can be accessed via the Battle Bus in either Odyssey or Brick Life modes. Additionally, Expeditions monsters will begin infiltrating Odyssey in July (hero classes will follow, according to Epic), and players can start crafting Expeditions weapons in preparation soon.

Fortnite Nintendo Switch 2 Edition review: by far the best way to play on a handheld, and a pretty solid TV experience too

by admin June 17, 2025

Why you can trust TechRadar

We spend hours testing every product or service we review, so you can be sure you’re buying the best. Find out more about how we test.

Launching alongside the Nintendo Switch 2, Fortnite Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is quite simply the same game, but better. Bless developer and publisher Epic Games for trying, but Fortnite on the original Nintendo Switch is hardly the most elegant way to play and feels like you’re at a significant disadvantage thanks to the decreased graphical fidelity, framerate, and draw distance. It’s forgivable on handheld, but with TV mode, it looks rough and feels rougher. But I’m glad to say the Nintendo Switch 2 edition is a great way to play, no matter where you are.

Review info

Platform reviewed: Nintendo Switch 2
Available on:
Nintendo Switch 2; Non-Switch 2 version available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, PC, Android, iOS (in some regions)
Release date:
June 5, 2025

I mean, what can you even say about Fortnite at this point? Epic Games’ 100-person Battle Royale game has taken over the world over the last eight years, and it’s only grown larger in the time since. In the vein of something like Roblox, Fortnite is both a battle royale and a user-generated game platform where you can find an endless amount of custom maps to play with your friends on.

But let’s get into why the Fortnite Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is such a great way to play.

You may like

Chug jug with you

To really hammer that “you can play Fortnite without even touching its main mode” point home, I don’t like Battle Royale – the marquee mode – thanks to the game’s building mechanics. However, when it comes to the Zero Build mode, it’s undoubtedly the best Battle Royale game on the market right now. Over the years, Epic has augmented the core mechanics of the game with a host of new movement options like wall kicking and roll landing that keep things fluid in what used to be the jankiest of movement systems.

Of course, the problem with any ‘evolving game’ is that it’s tough to give a review of the main mode because of how it changes. Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1 was peak, while Chapter 4 and Chapter 5’s third seasons were two of the absolute worst seasons of a live service game I’ve played. This means there could be three-month stretches where you just simply don’t like the game. And considering Epic Games has been experimenting with seasons based around media franchises like Marvel, Star Wars, and a rumored upcoming Simpsons season, if you don’t like those, that’s all you get for months.

Thanks to the use of the Nintendo Switch 2’s feature set and specs, it’s one of the best ways to play the game on console and by far the best handheld version.

Outside of that, there are the Epic Games-created modes. There’s Fortnite OG, which brings back the original Chapter 1 map (which can also be played in Zero Build, thankfully); Reload, which is a faster-paced 40-player battle; and Ballistic, a first-person mode that is a take on Counter-Strike. While none of these stand up to the core mode, they offer different ways to take on the mechanics of Fortnite and are solid games in their own right.

Then there are non-shooting modes like the Minecraft-inspired Lego Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and the best side mode, Fortnite Festival, which is a rhythm game mode and the closest thing we’ll get to a new Rock Band game, considering it was developed by Guitar Hero and Rock Band creator Harmonix. This mode gets constantly updated with songs and artists, with a new singer taking center stage with a skin and big song drop every few months or so (with the likes of Sabrina Carpenter, Metallica, and Hatsune Miku showing up).

And despite having so many options, the player base for each main mode is really healthy, meaning you’ll never wait too long to find a game of anything, with some custom games even having dedicated player bases. A few of these Epic-made modes have their own seasons and battle passes, too, which does add up if you don’t subscribe to the Fortnite Crew. However, Epic recently changed it so XP earned in any mode goes towards every single pass, which is a massive step up.

Mouse trap

Fortnite Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is the same game as it is everywhere else; there are no exclusive modes or anything of the sort. However, thanks to the use of the Nintendo Switch 2’s feature set and specs, it’s one of the best ways to play the game on console and by far the best handheld version of Fortnite.

Compared to the Nintendo Switch version, which ran at 880p docked and 660p in handheld mode, Fortnite Nintendo Switch 2 Edition runs at 1224p docked and 900p in handheld, so it still isn’t 4K / 1080p, but it is a significant boost. However, the resolution isn’t where the upgrade matters; the improved textures as well as a far greater draw distance, which was one of the original console’s biggest hindrances – especially with how big the Fortnite map is. Most importantly, Fortnite Nintendo Switch 2 Edition runs at a solid 60fps as opposed to the 30fps of the Nintendo Switch – which in an online shooter that has cross-play with more powerful platforms – makes a world of difference.

Gyro aiming returns from the Nintendo Switch edition of Fortnite, but new to the Switch 2 version is support for mouse controls via the Joy-Con 2 controllers. Effectively, this allows you to use a mouse setup for aiming with the movement capabilities of an analogue stick, and is a wonderful combination.

Best bit

As I was writing this review, Epic released a Hank Hill skin alongside an emote recreating the King of the Hill intro: my best bit can only be that and even how it looked on the Switch 2, which was excellent.

However, the mouse implementation is a touch awkward. Due to the lack of buttons available, you’ll still need to access the face buttons on your Joy-Con to jump and reload, which creates some uncomfortable moments as you crane your hand. Plus, the mouse controls need to be activated from the in-game menu, as opposed to just sticking the Joy-Con in mouse position like in other games. This isn’t the biggest pain in the world, but it doesn’t revert back once you use a controller that doesn’t support mouse controls (such as attaching your Joy-Con 2 to the Switch 2 itself), which means you’ll need to get the controller off and go through the menu with the mouse to deactivate it.

Fortnite is a phenomenon for a reason; if you let yourself get by the “popular game bad” noise that you often see with this and the likes of Call of Duty, you’ll find what is probably the best Battle Royale game in the genre. And even outside of that, it’s a massive game platform that has an endless supply of whatever you like, from racing, rhythm games, and even custom Fall Guys games.

However, the risks of an ongoing game persist because you’ll occasionally be hit with a season that makes the game bad for months, and there’s not much you can do to help it.

Having said that, Fortnite Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is easily the best way to play on the go or on a handheld device, and while it’s outclassed in power by the PS5 and Xbox versions when it comes to TV mode, it’s still solid to look at, and the mouse controls give it an edge that those consoles don’t have.

Should you play Fortnite Nintendo Switch 2 Edition?

Play it if…

Don’t play it if…

Accessibility

Fortnite has a ton of accessibility options, including multiple color blindness filters, the ability to remap controls however you like, alongside multiple control options like gyro aiming and mouse controls.

A standout feature is the visual sound effects toggle, which displays a ring around your character to indicate the source of sound effects and their corresponding representations (footsteps, loot, gunfire, etc.). This is particularly beneficial for those with hearing difficulties or when playing the game with the sound muted.

How I reviewed Fortnite Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

I played around eight hours of Fortnite Nintendo Switch 2 Edition on top of a good 300-400 hours played across PlayStation, PC, and Nintendo Switch. During my time with the Nintendo Switch 2 edition, I tested Zero Build mode, Fortnite Festival and a number of custom games.

I played this in a mixture of handheld mode on the Nintendo Switch 2 itself and on a Samsung Q60D TV and a Samsung HW-T450 soundbar using the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller and the Joy-Con 2 controllers when using mouse mode.
