People Can Fly cancels two games and lays off developers

by admin June 3, 2025

People Can Fly, the developer of Outriders and Gears of War: Judgement, announced Monday that its ending development on two of its upcoming games due to issues with its publisher and an inability to secure funding to continue development. As part of this decision, People Can Fly will be forced “significantly regroup” and “scale down [its] teams,” the studio’s CEO Sebastian Wojciechowksi shared in a statement on LinkedIn.

The statement doesn’t elaborate on how many staff will be impacted by the cuts, but does call out Project Gemini and Project Bifrost as the two games being cancelled. People Can Fly made the decision to shut down Gemini because the game’s publisher failed to provide a publishing agreement and didn’t communicate “its willingness to continue or terminate the Gemini project.” Without that publishing deal or the funds to continue working on Bifrost — a self-published VR game — the studio was forced to cancel it, too.

This isn’t the first time People Can Fly has shut down a project or made cuts to its teams. In December 2024, the studio announced that it was ending development on a game called Project Victoria and also reducing the number of people working on Bifrost. In that same announcement, People Can Fly also revealed that Square Enix was publishing Gemini.

People Can Fly last worked with Square Enix to publish Outriders, somewhat of a minor cult hit now, but not a commercial success at launch. Even with the cuts and cancelled games, the studio still has multiple upcoming projects in the works, including Project Delta, which People Can Fly is creating for Sony and Gears of War: E-Day, which the studio is co-developing with Xbox studio The Coalition.

Outriders Studio People Can Fly Announces Layoffs Due To Suspended Projects

by admin June 2, 2025

Sebastian Wojciechowski, CEO of Outriders studio People Can Fly, has announced on LinkedIn that the studio is laying off staff due to having to suspend two in-development games known as projects Gemini and Bifrost. Wojciechowski lays the blame for Gemini’s suspension on an unnamed publisher.

“The Suspension of the Gemini project is a consequence of the fact that the Publisher has not presented us with a draft of the subsequent content rider to the Publishing Agreement covering the terms and conditions of further milestones on project Gemini and the lack of communication from the Publisher as to its willingness to continue or terminate the Gemini project,” Wojciechowski writes in the update on LinkedIn.

The CEO then explains that a second project, Bifrost, has also been suspended due to the same publisher issue that caused Gemini’s suspension, adding that an “analysis of the Group’s cash flow, which showed a lack of prospects for securing organizational resources and funds necessary to continue this production and release of this project,” is also behind Bifrost’s suspension.

“As a result, we have to significantly regroup as a studio and scale down our teams, which hurts the most,” Wojciechowski writes. “We wish to express our deepest regret and sadness over how these events have unfolded and our sincere gratitude for everyone’s contribution up to this point.”

People Can Fly has been around for over two decades, with credits on games like Gears of War, Bulletstorm, and Gears of War: Judgment. It also developed 2021’s Outriders, a third-person looter shooter published by Square Enix. It is unclear which publisher Wojciechowski is referencing in today’s update, as projects Gemini and Bifrost were unannounced games the studio was working on.

Elsewhere, People Can Fly is co-developing The Coalition’s upcoming prequel, Gears of War: E-Day, and first-person survival shooter Lost Rift.

The hearts of the Game Informer staff are with everyone who’s been affected by these layoffs.

Elden Ring Nightreign’s Wylder can not only rocket jump with his explosive ultimate, he can grappling hook combo into it to fly around like an offstage Smash Bros. character

by admin June 1, 2025

In a new video about hidden or poorly explained Elden Ring Nightreign character mechanics, FromSoft LoreTuber-in-Chief VaatiVidya revealed that the new game’s default, John DarkSouls character, Wylder, actually has some fighting game-worthy combos and movement tech.

The tricks were first outlined months ago during Nightreign’s network test by user OnslaughtCasualty42 on the FromSoftware subreddit. In the delightfully named “A Dogshit Guide to Make Wylder Fly,” OnslaughtCasualty42 outlines how Wylder’s ultimate ability with the Guts arm cannon has some surprising interactions and combos with his jump and grappling hook.

50 Nightfarer Secrets in Elden Ring: Nightreign – YouTube

Watch On

The marquee one, shown off by Vaati, is to pull yourself forward with the grapple, do a 180° turn, and fire off the ultimate to launch yourself even farther forward like a Quake rocket jump. It reminds me most of the kind of wild movement tech and offstage recovery combos you see in Super Smash Bros. Melee, like the Reverse Temple Jump.

You may like

It honestly has pretty limited utility in actual Nightreign gameplay though: Maybe to clear a chasm quickly with no spirit spring around, get to the top of a fort from a nearby mountain, or quickly escape the danger zone as the circle closes in. But who cares—it’s rad as hell.

Nightreign gets most things right and a few things bafflingly, disastrously wrong, but its roster of Souls dudes is unimpeachably excellent. They look sick, feel fun to play, and it’s starting to become apparent that they all have crazy-high fighting game skill ceilings with movement tech and hidden mechanics galore.

My favorite remains Johnny Katanas, the Executor, whose slow-moving Sekiro deflect stance demands that you learn when it’s time to tank, and when you should be DPSing. I hope FromSoft brings mechanics like these forward to character classes in its future mainline, single-player games.

People Can Fly cancels two projects and confirms it will once again have to “scale down” its teams

by admin June 1, 2025

People Can Fly has cancelled two projects and “scaled down” its teams.

In a statement posted to LinkedIn this afternoon, CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski said it had been a “difficult decision” but attributed the suspension of Project Gemini and Bifrost to the publisher “not present[ing] us with a draft of the subsequent content rider to the Publishing Agreement”, and the Group’s cash flow, “which showed a lack of prospects”, respectively.

“Today we made a very difficult decision to suspend the development of project Gemini and project Bifrost – the relevant current reports have been released to the market,” Wojciechowski wrote.

“The suspension of the Gemini project is a consequence of the fact that the Publisher has not presented us with a draft of the subsequent content rider to the Publishing Agreement covering the terms and conditions of further milestone on project Gemini and the lack of communication from the Publisher as to its willingness to continue or terminate the Gemini project.

“Project Bifrost was suspended due to the above and the analysis of the Group’s cash flow, which showed a lack of prospects for securing organisational resources and funds necessary to continue the production and release of this project.

“As a result, we have to significantly regroup as a studio and scale down our teams, which hurts the most,” Wojciechowski added. “We wish to express our deepest regret and sadness over how these events have unfolded and our sincere gratitude for everyone’s contribution up to this point.”

Wojciechowski did not specify which publisher he thought had failed to “communicate”, but the studio has worked with several publishing partners, most recently Square Enix, Krafton, and Sony. It’s also working on Gears of War: E-Day.

In December, People Can Fly the Outriders developer announced its second round of layoffs in less than a year, this time affecting “more than 120” people. The move accompanies the cancellation or downsizing of several projects, with the studio blaming “external market pressures”.

Altcoins AVAX, HYPE, WLD, Fly As Bitcoin Hovers Near All-Time High

by admin May 26, 2025

With Bitcoin (BTC) holding just under its all-time high Monday morning, altcoins have posted gains in recent days—albeit with most tokens still a fair distance from their peaks.

Avalanche (AVAX) is one of the biggest altcoin winners on the day, climbing 5.8% to $23.67 over the past 24 hours in the wake of last week’s London Avalanche Summit. During the event, it was announced that the soccer governing body FIFA will migrate its FIFA Collect NFT platform to its own dedicated Avalanche layer-1 blockchain. However, AVAX remains down 83.7% from its all-time high reached in 2021.

World (WLD), previously Worldcoin, is one of the biggest altcoin winners from the week, jumping 27.2% to $1.38. This comes in the same month that the eyeball-scanning project was rolled out across the U.S., after previously barring Americans from participating in the World ID system. Again, the token is some way off its all-time high, down 88.2% from its peak in March 2024.

Conversely, Hyperliquid (HYPE) has set a new all-time high of $39.68, soaring 50.4% over the past seven days.

The move comes as a self-defined high risk leverage trader known as James Wynn made a $1 billion Bitcoin (BTC) bet via the Hyperliquid’s perp decentralized exchange—which they supposedly closed at a massive loss. Wynn has since opened a near $75 million leveraged long on Bitcoin (BTC) and a $19.3 million long on meme coin KPEPE, according to HypurrScan.

Other altcoins have seen gains over the past 24 hours. Bittensor (TAO) has surged 6.4%, Optimism (OP) has grown 5.6%, Arbitrum (ARB) 4.7%, Aptos (APT) 5.1%, and Internet Computer (ICP) 4.5%. Still, all of these altcoins remain some distance from their all-time highs.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin (BTC) has climbed just 2.2% to $109,779 and is within touching distance of its all-time high of $111,814 that it set four days ago.

Much of this green movement came after President Trump announced that the U.S. would delay its 50% tariff on European Union goods. In April Trump originally planned to impose a 20% tariff on the EU, later reducing it to 10%, and on Friday he threatened to raise the tariffs to 50% on June 1. The new deadline of July 9 allows additional time for the U.S. and EU to negotiate.

Bitcoin dominance has been on the rise since late 2022, according to CoinGecko, with the orange coin then claiming 36.95% of the top 10 crypto market cap and now sitting at 61.12%.

eToro Australia analyst Reece Hobson previously told Decrypt that altcoin season will kick off once quantitative easing kicks in and Bitcoin dominance hits 70%, a figure it isn’t too far from—which could go some way towards explaining why altcoins are starting to pick up the pace.
