Escape from Tarkov is finally coming to Steam ‘soon,’ developer says

by admin August 31, 2025

Following news that Escape from Tarkov is escaping its perpetual beta, the pioneering extraction shooter is also about to make its debut on Steam. Nikita Buyanov, head of the Battlestate Games studio that developed Escape from Tarkov, confirmed on X that the game’s Steam page “will be available soon,” only teasing that the full details will come later.

Buyanov’s confirmation comes less than a day after the developer posted a GIF on X of a man spraying steam from an iron. Earlier this month, Buyanov revealed on X that the looter shooter will get its 1.0 release on November 15, 2025, more than eight years after the beta opened up to players in July 2017, and that the studio has plans to port it to consoles. The Steam page for Escape from Tarkov isn’t live yet, and with only vague details to go off of, longtime fans already have burning questions. Most importantly, existing players are eager to know if they will have to buy the game again on Steam and how this change will affect the ongoing cheating problem.

While we don’t have any answers yet, Battlestate Games recently went into damage control mode when it revealed the Unheard Edition of the game that costs $250 and includes a new PvE mode. This move irked longstanding players who previously purchased another premium edition of the game, called the Edge of Darkness, which promised access to all future DLCs. The controversy boiled down to owners of the Edge of Darkness edition claiming they should have access to the new content, but the studio argued that it isn’t classified as DLC. In the end, Buyanov apologized for the debacle and promised the PvE mode would be available for anyone who purchased the Edge of Darkness package.

Verizon Finally Restores Service in Most Areas After Day-Long Outage

by admin August 31, 2025

Verizon said thousands of people who were affected nationwide by a massive outage now have service back.

If your Verizon-backed phone was out most of yesterday or even still down today, you weren’t alone. The company said the blackout was caused by a “software issue” but did not respond to a request to elaborate on what exactly that meant.

Verizon officials assured customers that their engineers were actively engaged in diagnosing and resolving the service disruption. By early evening, the company announced that service was beginning to stabilize in affected regions.

According to Downdetector data, most networks in the New York City, Houston, Chicago, Seattle, the Bay Area, and other major urban centers had been restored by 7:30 p.m. PDT, though a residual few hundred reports of outages persisted nationwide into midnight.

Users were not happy about Verizon’s outage

The company advised customers to monitor their network status online for updates.

Verizon officials emphasized that their engineering teams were actively engaged in diagnosing and resolving the widespread service outage that impacted thousands of customers across the United States.

In a statement released Saturday afternoon, the company assured affected users that corrective measures were underway and that efforts to restore normal service were a top priority.

“Our engineers are engaged and we are working quickly to identify and solve the issue,” Verizon said, as it scramble to assuage customers amid mounting frustration on social media.

By early evening, Verizon reported signs of progress, with service beginning to stabilize in key affected regions.

According to the company, network restoration efforts had started to yield positive results, particularly in metropolitan areas where the outage had been most severe.

Despite the progress, the company acknowledged that some users continued to experience issues, and reports of outages persisted into the late evening hours.

What the heck happened

The outage was first reported around midday, with thousands of customers taking to social media to complain about their phones being stuck in “SOS” mode since Saturday morning.

Many users expressed frustration over the slow pace of Verizon’s response, with some criticizing the company for not providing more timely and transparent updates.

The outage appeared to be concentrated in densely populated urban centers, where mobile connectivity is critical for both personal and professional communication.

Verizon’s spokesperson advised customers to check their network status online and provided reassurance that service restoration was ongoing. The company noted that efforts to identify and rectify the underlying software issue were still in progress, and that they expected further improvements in the coming hours.

By midnight, reports indicated that only a few hundred users nationwide were still experiencing service disruptions, suggesting that Verizon’s technicians were making significant headway in their recovery efforts.

Overall, the outage underscored the vulnerabilities inherent in even the most sophisticated telecommunications networks, and highlighted the importance of rapid, transparent communication during service disruptions.

Customers and industry observers alike will be watching closely to see how Verizon manages similar incidents in the future, particularly in terms of response times and customer service.

The First ‘Tron’ Movies are Finally Getting Modern Releases

by admin August 31, 2025

If Tron: Ares has you wanting to watch the first two movies again, you’re in luck: they’re getting new and improved versions on September 16.

During its Destination 23 showcase, Disney announced full remasters of the original Tron and its 2010 sequel Legacy are coming to Ultra 4K HD and digital. (It’s been a long time since either had physical versions, the last edition was a two-movie Blu-Ray bundle back in 2014.) Physical versions of the two films will come with fancy new steelbook editions seen below and are expected to have the special features at the time of their respective DVD releases back in the day. At time of writing, there’s no word on a price point, and it seems Disney’s got no inclination to re-releasing either film in theaters ahead of October’s Tron: Ares.

Speaking of Ares, Disney also used its Destination showcase to reveal Nine Inch Nails’ music from the film will be used in the Tron Lightcycle Attractions at Walt Disney World Resort and Shanghai World Resort, beginning September 15 and 16, respectively. The score and red overlay seen throughout Ares’ marketing will be featured at the attractions for a “limited time.” There’s also a new promo for Ares hyping up its titular hero and the incoming invasion of digital beings to the human world he’ll play a key role in.

Pre-orders for the Tron and Legacy steelbooks aren’t up yet at time of writing, but should be soon. Meanwhile, Tron: Ares hits theaters October 10.

Stellar (XLM) Bears May Finally Go on Vacation in September

by admin August 30, 2025

Stellar (XLM) has lost 15.17% of its value in the last 30 days and a significant 13.67% in the past seven days. This bearish outlook might soon be over if history repeats itself in September. Unlike August, which has average negative growth of 6.28%, next month holds promise for investors.

Historical September trends point to Stellar recovery

As per CryptoRank data, Stellar has an average growth rate of 3.08% in the ninth month of the year. In 2024, it closed September with a growth rate of 6.24%. This suggests that if the price of XLM follows the same trend as last year, the current bearish sentiment surrounding the coin could ease off.

You Might Also Like

This would mark a shift from the bearish performance that Stellar has posted in the market so far this August. Many investors anticipated the low price outlook, given that in the last 12 years, Stellar has only managed to finish in the green three times.

These were in 2017, 2020 and 2021, respectively. However, the asset has more bullish closings in September compared to August.

Stellar Monthly Performance Chart | Source: CryptoRank

As of this writing, Stellar’s price was trading at $0.3541, representing a 2.62% decline over the last 24 hours.

The coin dropped from an intraday peak of $0.3631 after it failed to find support at $0.40 in earlier trading due to high volume sales and profit-taking. The trading volume has also slipped into the red by 19.04% to $317.43 million.

If history favors Stellar, the asset could soar to as high as $0.50, riding on the anticipated altcoin season. In addition, the regulatory clarity that came with the Ripple lawsuit for XRP has also positively impacted XLM, driving adoption.

Meanwhile, Stellar’s charts indicate the formation of an inverse head and shoulder pattern. This could signal significant growth for XLM in September.

Roblox has finally made an Adult Only game section amid child safety concerns

by admin August 30, 2025

Roblox has announced that experiences labeled with the Restricted maturity tag will soon only be available to users aged 18 and over. The change raises the age requirement from 17+ and begins rolling out immediately.

Starting August 28, players under 18 can no longer see Restricted experiences in search or recommendations. Later this year, full access will also be blocked for those users.

The platform confirmed that the policy shift applies to both players and developers. Creators under 18 will still be able to access Restricted projects they previously published, but any new experiences with the label can only be uploaded by developers aged 18 or older.

Ongoing child safety concerns

This comes after Roblox’s recent August 11 ban of YouTuber “predator hunter” Schlep. On top of being banned from the platform, they sent a Cease and Desist letter to the creator.

The Roblox YouTuber boasts over 600,000 subscribers, and claims that his work over the past year helped lead to six arrests. Roblox’s letter accused him of “simulated child endangerment conversations”, “sharing or soliciting personally identifiable information”, and “encouraging users to move conversations off-platform.”

After the ban, concerns of child safety on the platform rose after Roblox defended its decision to ban the “vigilante.”

One celebrity looking to shine a light on the debate and the mounting frustrations is Chris Hansen, best known for hosting NBC’s To Catch a Predator, who has built his career exposing those who prey on minors.

Now, he’s turning his attention to Roblox after reaching out to Schlep for upcoming documentary investigating Roblox’s handling of child safety issues.

Skate 4 Is Finally Launching On Consoles & PC In September

by admin August 27, 2025

Electronic Arts and developers Full Circle announced that after years of waiting and fans begging for a new game, the upcoming Skate reboot will launch in September in early access on consoles and PC.

On August 26, EA posted a short trailer for the next Skate game, which is confusingly just titled Skate, and finally confirmed an early access release date. Previously, the publisher had teased that it would be out sometime this year and later promised it would be out this summer. But now we know that the new, online-only Skate reboot is launching on September 16. Mark your calendars and set aside some time to kickflip. Or crash. You’ll probably be crashing a lot.  Here’s the new trailer:

We are so hyped to announce that skate. will release in Early Access September 16th, 2025. See you in San Vansterdam! 🛹 pic.twitter.com/3tR3onovwb

— skate. (@skate) August 26, 2025

This new Skate reboot will be an online-only multiplayer-focused open-world adventure featuring over 100 songs and up to 150 players skating together in a single session. The game is set in San Vansterdam, a city built from the ground up by EA and Open Circle to be the dream playground for all skateboarders.

It’s been a long wait for this new Skate game. EA first revealed it was working on a new Skate in 2020 after years of fans begging them to make it. Since then, the game has been leaked a few times, and EA has put out early, unfinished footage of Skate as part of a plan to be more transparent about the open-world skateboarding game’s development. Skate has also been playtested by fans in the lead-up to its launch. The new Skate arrives on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on September 16.

Sony finally makes the PlayStation refund process easier, killing the support chat bot

Sony finally makes the PlayStation refund process easier, killing the support chat bot

by admin August 26, 2025

Sony has pushed an update live to the PlayStation store that makes refunds considerably easier.

The new process, which can only be done on the PlayStation website or app, goes as follows: navigate to the PlayStation store and select the three dots in the top right corner to access your transaction history. From there, you should be able to select your past purchases and request refunds.

Previously, PlayStation users would have to use an online assistant, basically a chat bot, to negotiate a refund. The requirements for a refund remain the same: only a product bought within the last 14 days is valid, and you can’t have begun the process of downloading or playing it. That is, unless what you bought is faulty, in which case these requirements may be circumvented.

Here’s a Eurogamer video to cheer you up.Watch on YouTube

It’s a nice little update that should make those 2am reflex purchases of Detroit Become Human feel a little less rancid the next day. Also, anything that takes away those pesky chat bot supports is a good update in my book. This comes alongside a selection of other improvements made to the PS Plus store as of late, including additional accessibility options and Apple Pay support.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.

Matter Is Finally Ready to Deliver the Smart Home It Promised

by admin August 26, 2025

“We’re doing some outdoor products, and now we use Wi-Fi,” he explained. “But in an ideal world, these should be Thread products, because it has much better range, and also it’s low power.”

Chu hasn’t given up on Thread, though, and said testing version 1.4 is going well. The latest version has made it simpler for devices to work in a unified, brand-agnostic, mesh network, regardless of the software or hardware ecosystem being used. It has also streamlined cloud access and simplified device setup, ultimately helping to make Matter more robust, scalable, and user-friendly.

“I think that Matter and Thread has had a lot of negativity in the past few years, but it’s time for the consumers to give it another try,” says Chu. “It’s gotten much better. A lot of people in the industry have been working very, very hard to get it to the point that it’s at today.”

It’s an area of improvement that Richardson is also keen to highlight. “Thread is an important, foundational technology of Matter,” he said. “We are closely aligned with the Thread Group and continue to look for ways to improve the Thread experience within Matter and the use cases that it enables.”

Growing Pains

Thread took most of the early heat when Matter started stumbling, but it wasn’t the only problem. Dev headaches, slow rollout, and a lack of compatible devices have all played a part.

For an emerging standard, this is not unusual. But when the likes of Google, Apple, Amazon, and Samsung team up, it becomes a much bigger story.

“We started this with a lot of fanfare, and usually standards don’t. They sort of start off in a corner, with maybe a couple of super nerdy articles about it, and then, two years later, something shows up when companies start rolling it out.”

That’s the take of Daniel Moneta, chair of the Matter Marketing and Product Subgroup at the CSA. Moneta has also spent the past few years working with Samsung SmartThings in a product and marketing role, giving him plenty of irons in the Matter fire.

“I do think there were a lot of expectations, that maybe we set, but maybe people just had, in terms of things like how quickly it was going to be done, how fast products were going to come out, which problems Matter was going to solve and which ones it wasn’t,” he said.

Moneta believes many criticisms of Matter stem from its tech-fluent early adopters already being obsessive about the details. Speaking as a self-titled “nerdy enthusiast,” he understands.

“We’re very interested in the technical nuance … in looking at things like compatibility matrices. The smart home has historically been for that enthusiast in the home and, almost by definition, a group of people who have greater expectations, want more flexibility, and also maybe want it to do things beyond necessarily what it was built for.

“I’m not saying Matter wasn’t made for that audience, because I think it’s fantastic for that audience,” he continues. “But Matter was also designed for the Ikea buyer or the Samsung TV buyer. The one that goes, ‘I have a Matter hub in this TV I just bought. Maybe I should buy some light bulbs.’”

The best way to wait for Battlefield 6 is to finally play Battlefield 5, an underappreciated gem

by admin August 26, 2025

MORGAN PARK, STAFF WRITER

Last week: Got all sappy about the server browser and got very close to downloading Quake.

The Battlefield 6 beta got its hooks into me and my friend group in a way few shooters can, and I know that because we’re spending the 46-day wait for its release by playing other Battlefields. The natural first choice was Battlefield 2042, as it has a new event with unlockable Battlefield 6 skins, but surprisingly, we’ve gravitated toward a game that most of us completely ignored at the time: Battlefield 5.

PC Gamer liked Battlefield 5 when it came out in 2018, but there were plenty of reasons it got the cold shoulder from the wider FPS community. DICE’s ugly Battlefront 2 loot box fiasco was still fresh. Plus, battle royales were the new hotness, and the explosive popularity of free-to-play Fortnite was making full-priced multiplayer games look old-fashioned. And generally, the genre was tending toward sweaty competition over casual chaos—my most-played shooters at the time were Rainbow Six Siege and Overwatch.

I owe Battlefield 5 an apology, because it’s really good. I picked it up on sale a few years ago, but I’m only now appreciating its weird guns, smart class choices, and absurdly pretty maps. Thousands of people still play it on Steam every day, and the Battlefield 6 hype has triggered a new surge (its 24-hour Steam concurrent peak was over 12,000 yesterday). It’s not on sale right now, but if you’re interested, it’s on PC Game Pass.

Related articles

I can see why it’s some people’s favorite: Battlefield 5 plays very differently from the games that came before and after it. DICE got pretty experimental with classes, weapons, and vehicles—not every big swing worked, but some of its ideas were so good that I’m sad they didn’t survive in BF2042:

Spotting

Easily Battlefield 5’s most controversial change to series norms is a huge nerf to spotting. Instead of pressing Q to place a tracking diamond on moving enemies, spotting is an imprecise ping by default. There are some ways to live ping enemies with gadgets, but the only class with a traditional spotting tool is the Recon’s spotter scope. The result is way fewer red diamond symbols telling on each other, but spotting is still a factor.

It’s wild how differently Battlefield plays when stealth is actually viable. Smokescreens can meaningfully blind enemy squads long enough to get a few revives in, and vehicles can even sneak up on you if you’re not watching the minimap. This iteration of spotting feels fairer and more intentional than in BF2042 or the Battlefield 6 beta. I’m a total convert.

Bandages & ammo

To encourage teammates to lean on each other, Battlefield 5 placed hard limits on ammo and healing. Automatic healing takes longer to kick in than usual, but everyone spawns with one bandage that can self-heal quickly. The catch is that you can only get another bandage by finding a medic or a supply station.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

Ammo reserves are also smaller, but in turn, both Support and Medics can now toss bandages/ammo packs to individuals from a long distance. It’s a really cool way to make the ammo jockey a more active and consistently useful role—we’ve all had teammates who never seem to use ammo and health stations dropped on the ground, so the automatically accurate toss can be a lifesaver.

Battlefield 2042 ditched the bandage system, but the tossable pouches eventually made their return as a secondary gadget—they’d fit right into Battlefield 6, too.

Classes

Unlike BF2042 and BF6 by default, Battlefield 5 has class-locked weapons (hurray). I like that each class has a clearly defined role, but Battlefield 5 is also a great example of allowing some gun overlap where it makes sense. Medics, for instance, are SMG specialists, but they also have access to a few bolt-action carbines for when close-range isn’t cutting it. That said, Assaults can feel dominant with the double whammy of overwhelming assault rifles and anti-armor RPGs.

The odd class out this time is the Support, whose gadget pool of repair tools, mines, and ammo boxes isn’t terribly exciting. What is exciting are heavy machine guns: they’re exclusive to Support and among the deadliest guns in the game, but interestingly, they’re inaccurate unless you mount their bipod on a wall or the floor.

You basically become a glass tank—locking down entire zones with a laser beam that can melt squads in seconds, checked by the very real danger of being still while doing it. It’s the best modern example of a class weapon having a major influence on its playstyle, so it’s a shame that DICE is favoring a Call of Duty-style free-for-all in Battlefield 6.

The Pacific maps

Back in 2019, Battlefield 5’s final major update added a new faction, several new guns, vehicles, and a handful of Pacific theatre maps inspired by Battlefield 1942. With their own playlist that’s still active, they’re the highlight of the whole package, and all the proof I need that nothing captures the complete Battlefield experience (infantry, boats, jeeps, tanks, and planes) quite like Wake Island. The only thing it’s missing is helicopters.

Battlefield V – Wake Island Overview Trailer (2019) Official 4k – YouTube

Watch On

The server browser

If you want to play a specific map or mode, you can easily go find it. Battlefield 5 was the last of the series with a server browser that included official matchmaking servers, so there’s never a shortage of servers to choose from (even if you’re stuck in a queue for a bit). Fingers crossed that curating your experience in the Battlefield 6 “Portal browser” will be as useful.

Gorgeous Cybernoir Thriller Replaced Finally Has A New Release Date

by admin August 26, 2025

Replaced has been turning heads since it was first revealed back at E3 2021 (RIP), but actually completing the game has taken longer than anyone thought it would, including its developers at Sad Cat Studios. At long last, there’s good news, though: the team recently confirmed the gorgeous pixel art action game will arrive sometime next spring.

That early 2026 timeframe will be a bummer to those secretly hoping Replaced might still sneak out onto PC and Xbox before the end of the year, but it’s better than nothing for fans who have been waiting years to finally see the cinematic cyberpunk platformer in action for themselves. After missing its original 2022 launch window, the day-and-date Game Pass game has been subject to continuous delays. A 2024 launch slipped into 2025, which has now slipped into 2026. What makes this time any different?

“This is the first time I’m addressing this personally and that’s because I can finally say it with confidence,” game director Yura Zhdanovich revealed in a new developer update. “Replaced will be released in spring of 2026. We will need just a little more time to get it polished. And to be more precise, our final trailer for the game with the exact release date will be shown later this year.”

Zhdanovich seems to be teasing a final date getting announced at The Game Awards 2025. Until then, Replaced has looked surprisingly good during its recent showing at Gamescom. Much like Silksong, its repeated delays seem to have less to do with development woes (minus having to relocate because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine) than the fact that Sad Cat Studios had just been severely underestimating how much time it would take to get Replaced right.

Replaced is more than just eye-candy

Sporting a Batman: Arkham-like, combo-based combat system and tons of vibrant, detailed pixel art backgrounds, Replaced is exactly the kind of “hand-crafted” indie project that deserves as much production time as it can get. Add in the cinematic mood and ambiance of puzzle-platform games like Inside and Planet of Lana, and you have the recipe for something very special if Sad Cat Studios can pull it off. The latest demo of the game looks as promising as ever.

“We have done more than 600 clips of animation, which effectively translates to several thousands of hand painted frames of those animations blended together with beautiful VFX, amplifying the mix between retro and modern visuals,” Zhdanovich said. No AI-generated slop in sight. You love to see it.
