Rapper Bigxthaplug shuts down highway during rush hour to film music video

by admin June 22, 2025

Rapper Xavier ‘Bigxthaplug’ Landum shut down a Dallas, Texas, highway bridge during rush hour to film a music video with fellow musician Shaboozey, and he did it during the worst possible time.

Rapper Bigxthaplug rose to national recognition back in 2022, and over the last year, has been talking about doing a country project with some of the biggest names in that genre.

He mentioned back in December 2024 that country stars like Shaboozey, Morgan Wallen, and Luke Combs would appear on the album.

Now, it looks like that project is coming along quite well, as Landum shut down a Dallas highway to film a music video at the worst possible time of the day.

Bigxthaplug shuts down highway during rush hour

The event took place on Tuesday, June 17, during the evening rush hour in Dallas, Texas. This left people trying to navigate the highway in a bit of trouble as nobody could pass through the bridge in one direction.

Police told The Dallas Morning News that the music video filming received all the required permits to shut down the bridge. Being that the other direction of the bridge was still flowing with traffic, videos quickly went viral on social media.

The video is for Bigx and Shaboozey’s upcoming song, Highway Highway, which was teased by both stars earlier in June.

“I didn’t know you could rent a bridge, but that’s cool,” one user commented on a video.

Another person replied: “It took me over an hour to get to work. The city was wrong for this during rush hour in the middle of the work week.”

“Yeah, had me in traffic for an hour!!” shared a third.

Shaboozey, the country star Bigx was filming with, went viral on TikTok with his hit song ‘A bar song’ that was even added as an emote on Fortnite.

Silent Hill 2 Film Adaptation ‘Return To Silent Hill’ Gets January Premiere Date

by admin June 21, 2025

Return to Silent Hill, the next film adaptation of Konami’s popular horror franchise, will premiere in January, according to a recent report by Deadline. The movie was first announced to be in production in October 2022 during the first Silent Hill Transmission.

Return to Silent Hill is being directed and co-written by Christophe Gans, who directed the 2006 Silent Hill film. The project also boasts a soundtrack composed by long-time series composer Akira Yamaoka. The movie is an adaptation of Silent Hill 2, which was remade in 2024, and centers on protagonist James Sunderland receiving a letter from his deceased wife, Mary, urging him to find her in the foggy, monster-infested town of Silent Hill. Despite being the third film adaptation of the franchise and the first since 2012’s Silent Hill: Revelation, Return to Silent Hill is not connected to the previous movies.

The cast includes Jeremy Irvine as James, Hannah Emily Anderson as both Mary Sunderland and Maria, and Evie Templeton as Laura. You can check out the film’s original 2022 teaser (complete with commentary from Gans) below. Return to Silent Hill is set to premiere in theaters on January 23.

It’s been an eventful time for the Silent Hill franchise. Konami recently announced that a remake of the first game is in the works. Meanwhile, the next mainline entry, Silent Hill f, got a new gameplay trailer and a September release date during a State of Play this month.

Brad Pitt’s Sci-Fi Film Roles, Ranked

by admin June 19, 2025

Next week, one of our biggest movie stars hits theaters in one of the summer’s biggest movies. F1: The Movie, starring Brad Pitt, is out June 27 and it’s the kind of role only someone as huge as Pitt could play. Pitt has been one of the top movie stars in the world for decades. Rising to stardom in the early 1990s, he quickly jumped to leading man status and has never looked back since.

Pitt has had an incredibly varied career, making films in seemingly every genre imaginable. He’s been in romances, fantasy epics, crime thrillers, sports movies, you name it. He’s also made more than a few sci-fi films, which is our specialty here on io9. So, with Pitt on the mind thanks to his latest (decidedly non-sci-fi) movie coming out, here are our rankings of Brad Pitt’s sci-fi roles.

But, first, a clarification. As we said, Pitt has made a lot of movies, many of which straddle the line between genres. Just so you aren’t reading this article all day, we decided to be a little more strict in our classifications. So, for example, many of Pitt’s roles are almost on the edge of genre. Crime movies with spy elements, non-fiction characters in fantasy stories, and hyper-realistic settings. All of which kind of fit io9, but won’t be considered here. That includes Spy Game, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Inglourious Basterds, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Tree of Life, The Lost City, and Bullet Train. We’ve also decided not to count a few of Pitt’s films that are very much genre, but lack sci-fi elements. That takes Seven and Troy off the list. So, what’s on it? Here we go.

Pitt in Meet Joe Black – Fox

9. Deadpool 2

Pitt’s blink and you’ll miss it cameo as Vanisher, one of the members of X-Force, is absolutely hilarious but not big enough to rank highly here.

8. Meet Joe Black

In Meet Joe Black, Pitt plays the personification of Death, who then learns to live and love. It’s a strong, memorable, stoic performance in a rather dull movie. Not Pitt’s fault and not a terrible movie, merely lacking in comparison to some of his other work.

7. Cool World

One of Pitt’s earliest noteworthy starring roles sees him as the hard-nosed detective of a cartoon world. It’s a fun movie with a solid performance.

Pitt in World War Z – Paramount

6. World War Z

In a case of the movie being better than the performance, Pitt plays the lead in this story of a global zombie outbreak. It’s a solid movie with lots of action and effects, which forced Pitt into a by-the-book performance. It’s not his best work, but the scope of the movie brings it up a notch.

5. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Playing a man who ages in reverse, this big, bold production is maybe a little bit too much. Pitt is amazing in it though, using visual effects to really give us a fully formed, wild performance… in a just okay movie.

4. Ad Astra

Just because, compared to several of these other films, it’s a little underrated, we’re putting Ad Astra higher than most would expect. Pitt plays an astronaut who travels deep into space looking for his lost father in a poignant, exciting film with a nuanced lead performance.

Pitt in Fight Club – Fox

3. Fight Club

Shock of shocks! Fight Club might be our favorite movie of the bunch but, we’re talking Brad Pitt roles. And as incredible as Pitt is as the unforgettable Tyler Durden, it really is a two-hander of a movie with Edward Norton, which just meant we ranked it a tiny bit lower.

2. Interview with the Vampire

As the eternal vampire Louis, Pitt shared the screen of this 1994 film with Tom Cruise, making up one of the most beautiful casts of the era. And it’s saying something that when paired up with a star as big as Cruise at the time, Pitt’s charisma and talent may just overshadow him.

1. 12 Monkeys

Pitt received his first Oscar nomation for his role in this film, a twisty, turny, sci-fi mindfuck from director Terry Gilliam. It’s not the biggest role, but damned if it isn’t unforgettable as Pitt just seems to be having the most fun he’s ever had on screen.

A Death Stranding animated film is now in active development

by admin June 19, 2025

Kojima Productions and animation studio Line Mileage have announced that they’re collaborating on an upcoming animated film set in the universe of Death Stranding.

Screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski is attached to the project, which is now in active development. Guzikowski is known as the creator of acclaimed HBO Max sci-fi series Raised By Wolves, as well as dark 2013 thriller Prisoners from director Denis Villeneuve.

The film will have an original story, rather than following the events of the 2019 game.

“I love the world of Death Stranding, it’s so creatively freeing, so beautifully dark and yet hopeful,” Guzikowski said in a statement. “I’m so excited and honored that Hideo Kojima, whose work I’ve long admired, has invited me to dwell within his creation, to birth new stories into this fertile, mind-bending universe.”

Line Mileage is a relatively new animation and post-production house, with members of its leadership team having worked on Netflix animated shows like Castlevania, Blood of Zeus, and Tomb Raider.

The animated project is totally separate from A24’s plans to adapt Death Stranding for the big screen, with A Quiet Place: Day One director Michael Sarnoski attached to that film.

Sequel Death Stranding 2: On the Beach launches on June 26, 2025 for PlayStation 5.

Inside How Stephen King’s First Animated Film Was Made

by admin June 17, 2025

Stephen King is at the point in his illustrious 58-year career when there aren’t many firsts left for him. Yet, the legendary author who’s published 65 books and has dozens of films inspired by his imagination machine of a mind has found time for one more first: his first animated feature. Lily became King’s first-ever animated short, and its origins trace back all the way to his high school days.

How Alan Wake 2 Builds Upon The ‘Remedy-Verse’

In the pop-up-book-styled animated short, a young student named Robert is stuck between a rock and a nightmare as he has to deal with his cruel teacher, Ms. Sidley, and a large tiger named Lily in the bathroom. After his teacher berates him for choosing to urinate outside to avoid the tiger, her inspection of his claims has a devastating consequence for her. There’s no blood or gore—trademark components of many of our favorite Stephen King visual adaptations. There’s just kid-friendly horror in the Kate Siegel-directed short, which is exactly how King intended for it to be when he wrote the script according to Lily’s animator Pete Scalzitti, who spoke with Kotaku after the short’s screening at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.

“Last summer Stephen wrote our screenplay, adapting it himself from one of his earliest stories ever, Here There Be Tygers, which he actually wrote when he was in high school,” Scalzitti explains. “Deep cut fans of his short stories will notice he changed some of the plot, as well as the names of the main characters, using instead the names from another of his darkest short stories, Suffer the Little Children. But the plot is all Tygers.”

Here There Be Tygers was released in 1968 when the prolific author was only 20 years old, and Suffer the Little Children was published four years later in 1972, making Lily a sterling example of the timelessness of King’s work. The hand-drawn animation makes Lily feel like it was pulled from a time capsule unblemished, and also makes it reminiscent of children’s picture books. All of this was intentional, even down to the way Siegel’s voice guides you through the horror.

“Kate chose to leave in Stephen’s screen directions and use them as narration, which she discussed with Stephen. This made the film feel like King was reading us a bedtime story, which gave me my solution for how to animate this in 21 days—I treated it like I was creating a pop-up book.”

Lily is part of Dark Corners, a series created by Siegel and Krsy Fox, which features eight animated horror shorts meant to “gently or not so gently introduce children to the world of horror.” While there isn’t any official word on if and when King decides to drop another, don’t put it past the master of horror to dig back into his treasure trove of stories for an animated feast of terror for the eyes.

How to Train Your Dragon – What to Watch & Read Before the Live-Action Film

by admin June 13, 2025

The animated adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon was a huge hit when it first hit the big screen in 2010, and now, 15 years later, Dreamworks is bringing that fantasy adventure back to theaters as a live-action adaptation. However, some may not know that both films are based on the 2003 novel series of the same name, written by author Cressida Cowell. The 12-book series offers a much more fleshed-out version of the story, and if you’re looking to explore the source material before the new live-action film premieres on June 13, you’re in luck, as the How to Train Your Dragon novels are available at Amazon. This includes a big discount on the How to Train Your Dragon: The Complete Book Collection, which is down to just $59.69 (normally $108). You can also grab the animated film and its sequels and spin-off on Blu-ray, and grab a new Toothless Lego set that’s available to preorder. Check out all the How to Train Your Dragon deals below.

$59.69 (was $108)

All three versions of How to Train Your Dragon follow Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third, the son of a Viking chieftain whose clan has been at war with dragons for centuries. However, Hiccup secretly befriends a young dragon, whom he names Toothless, and the two form a bond that challenges the status quo of Viking society.

Since the live-action movie looks like it’ll be a faithful remake of the animated film, it might be best to start with the How to Train Your Dragon books. The books are much more detailed and feature entire story arcs that the movies don’t include. You can pick up all 12 books with the How To Train Your Dragon: The Complete Collection, which is discounted to just for $59.69 (was $108) at Amazon. The box set includes paperback editions of all 12 books and a slipcase box to store them in.

$18 (was $20)

While not a part of the series, there’s also How To Train Your Dragon: The Complete Book of Dragons. This companion guidebook covers all of the dragon species from the How to Train Your Dragon series, plus several brand-new ones created just for this book, all realized with beautiful color illustrations. It’s available for $18 at Amazon (normally $20)

The animated How to Train Your Dragon movie trilogy makes some big departures from the source material across the films, but they’re still fun epics with fantastic animation that still holds up all these years later. These 4K Blu-rays also include the film on standard Blu-ray and digital streaming codes, as well as a selection of bonus materials, such as deleted scenes, documentaries, and commentaries from the cast and crew. There are even extra animated shorts featuring Hiccup and his crew.

  1. How to Train Your Dragon — $18.25 ($23)
  2. How to Train Your Dragon 2 — $15
  3. How to Train Your Dragon 3: The Hidden World — $15 ($30)

In case you don’t have a 4K TV to watch the How to Train Your Dragon, they are available in standard Blu-ray format. They still look great at 1080p, and you can get the entire trilogy in one bundle deal. You’ll also get all of the bonus content that you’d find in the 4K editions, although it is worth noting that the How to Train Your Dragon: Ultimate Collection includes two TV specials as well, in case you’re looking for a complete experience.

Dreamworks also produced an animated series based on “How to Train Your Dragon,” called “Dreamworks Dragons,” which takes place between the first two movies. The Show ran for 118 episodes across eight seasons, plus a direct-to-DVD movie called Mystery of the Dragon Eye. While each season saw DVD releases, the first two seasons–known as Dragons: Riders of Berk and Dragons: Defenders of Berk–are out of print. Seasons 3-8, which are titled Dragons: Race of the Edge, are available on DVD at Amazon, as is the Mystery of the Dragon’s Eye movie. Additionally, all eight seasons are streaming on Peacock.

Dreamworks followed up the Dragons series with two more How to Train Your Dragon animated spin-off shows–Rescue Riders on Netflix and The Nine Realms on Hulu. They haven’t received a DVD or Blu-ray release yet, but are worth seeking out on Netflix and Hulu if you’re looking to experience the entire How to Train Your Dragon animated universe.

Dragons: Race to the Edge DVD

$70 | Releases July 1

For one last recommendation, Lego recently announced a new building set based on the series’ adorable iconic dragon, Toothless. The 784-piece figure stands seven inches tall and features movable head and wings, and comes with a few accessories, including a breath piece and a fish treat. The kit launches on July 1 and is available to preorder at Lego’s online store.

AI Sparks Fear and ‘Obsolescence’ Among UK Film Industry

by admin June 10, 2025

In brief

  • A new BFI report reveals UK film workers fear job losses from AI, with entry-level positions most at risk and potential revenue declines of 21% over three years.
  • The unauthorized use of copyrighted content to train AI models threatens the economic foundations of the UK’s £21 billion screen industry, which employs 200,000 people.
  • Despite concerns, industry leaders see AI as amplifying creativity rather than replacing it, with 79 licensing deals already recorded and new frameworks being developed.

Growth in the use of generative AI is provoking fears of job losses and “obsolescence” among individuals working in the UK film and screen sector, according to a new report commissioned by the British Film Institute.

Authored by researchers at the multi-institutional CoSTAR Foresight Lab, the report is the first UK-wide review of the impact AI is having on the British screen industry. It also highlights opportunities, challenges and threats related to the use of AI.

While acknowledging how AI innovations provide “growth opportunities for the UK screen and creative technology sectors,” the research also concludes that the unauthorized use of copyrighted material for training new models “poses a direct threat to the economic foundations of the UK screen sector.”

According to the report, sources of training data include scripts from over 130,000 films, TV programs and YouTube videos, with such a mining of content undermining the ability of the UK screen industry to “create value” from making and selling new content.

“As generative models learn the structure and language of screen storytelling—from text, images and video—they can then replicate those structures and create new outputs at a fraction of the cost and expense of the original works,” the researchers write. “These learned capabilities can be used to assist human creatives, but AI tools may also be used to compete against the original creators whose work they were trained on.”

Accordingly, the report devotes considerable attention to the consequences of AI for job numbers in the British screen industry, which currently adds £21 billion per year to the UK’s GDP and employs around 200,000 people, encompassing movies, TV and video games

It cites recent studies which show that, internationally, audiovisual creators are at risk of seeing their revenues decline by 21% in the next three years as a result in the growth of AI-generated content, while it also discusses a CVL Economics report which estimated that AI could disrupt over 200,000 entertainment jobs in the U.S. by 2026.

The researchers suggest that junior and entry-level positions are especially at risk, since such jobs often comprise the kind of routine tasks at which AI currently excels.

Yet this poses a serious problem, the report suggests, since “if generative AI automates entry-level jobs and tasks, it will limit routes into the screen sector.”

Introducing AI to British studios

Companies focused on integrating AI into entertainment production processes are mindful of such dangers, although they also emphasize that the overall impact on the British and international screen sector will be positive.

This is the view of Phil McKenzie, the co-founder of British film production company Goldfinch, who tells Decrypt that AI will serve mostly to “amplify” human creativity, rather than replace it.

“On a macro level, entertainment will be impacted less than many many sectors,” he says. “On a micro level, AI offers enormous benefits, particularly for independent creators, despite the fear being amplified by legacy gatekeepers.”

Last month, Goldfinch signed a deal with Luxembourg-based Digital Genesis Fund to launch a $20 million investment vehicle, which will support Web3 and AI-focused entertainment studios.

And for McKenzie, this kind of venture will ultimately be a boost to the creative industries, providing tools that will “lower barriers for new talent” and reduce production costs.

“At Goldfinch, we’re building tools—including a new AI and Web3 app with Jordan Bayne and The Squad—to empower producers and creators to turn stories into modular, AI-enhanced, on-chain IP that’s ready for scalable licensing and cross-platform expansion,” he says.

McKenzie also expects that even supposedly at-risk roles will evolve to incorporate AI, while also suggesting that AI will bring about “a redistribution of value and opportunity”, rather than a decline.

And despite sounding several alarms in its report, the BFI also acknowledges that positive steps are already being taken to ensure that AI works for the industry as a whole.

“Our report found evidence that there is increasing activity in licensing deals, and a flow of activity and interest in creating the frameworks that would smooth the path for even more licensing in the creative industries,” says Rishi Coupland, the BFI’s Director of Research and Innovation, speaking to Decrypt.

Proliferation of licensing deals

As recent examples of progress, Coupland cites the forthcoming Copyright Licensing Agency generative AI licensing solution, research and development work by AI music firm DAACI on a copyright solution, and the work of licensing startup Human Native.

In fact, Coupland points out that the BFI’s report cites data from the Centre for Regulation of the Creative Economy, which has recorded 79 licensing deals over the past two year period.

There is therefore precedent for how creative sectors can adapt to the challenges and opportunities presented by AI, although Coupland also agrees with recent remarks from UK Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy, who suggested at a conference in London last week that legislation may be needed.

He explains, “She has also said that once the Data Bill is passed by Parliament, she and Peter Kyle will begin a series of roundtables with representatives from across the creative industries to develop legislation, with both houses of Parliament given time to consider it before they proceed.”

Nintendo has delayed its Legend of Zelda film

by admin June 9, 2025

Nintendo has delayed its Legend of Zelda film to later in 2027.

Originally intended for release on 26th March 2027, the live-action film will now be released on 7th May 2027.

The news was shared on social media in a statement from the company’s Shigeru Miyamoto, citing “production reasons” for the delay.

The Legend of Zelda games – Nintendo Switch 2 Editions & ZELDA NOTES – Overview TrailerWatch on YouTube

“This is Miyamoto,” reads the post. “For production reasons, we are changing the release date of the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda to May 7, 2027. It will be some weeks later than the release timing we originally announced, and we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it can be. Thank you for your patience.”

The release date for the film was first confirmed back in March this year via Nintendo’s newly released Nintendo Today app, after the company confirmed a film was in the works in November 2023.

Little else is known about the film at this point, whether it will be inspired by one game predominantly, or who has been cast as the iconic Link or titular princess.

Rumours have circled around Euphoria star Hunter Schafer for the role of Zelda, though reports have also emerged she is being eyed instead for a big Marvel role.

The Zelda film will of course follow the hugely successful The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which is the biggest video game film adaptation ever.

The Mario film has a sequel already lined up for April next year. The film will reportedly include “old favourites” and “really deep cuts”. Here at Eurogamer, we’re particularly hoping for Birdo.

Starfighter Adds Mia Goth To Ryan Gosling-led Film

by admin June 7, 2025

Image: A24

Imagine if the actress who suffocated her character’s mute, paralyzed father with a pillow in Pearl was now wreaking havoc across the galaxy. We don’t know if suffocation will be in Mia Goth’s arsenal, but we do know that the scream queen will be starring in the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter film, according to The InSneider.

Star Wars Outlaws Lost Me With Its Story Trailer

Goth is the latest actor to be cast in Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy’s highly anticipated take on the Star Wars universe. Ryan Gosling, who noted, “There just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn,” was confirmed to be starring in the film in April after months of speculation.

Details about the film are rarer to come by than an original 1977 cut of Star Wars Episode IV – A New Hope, but we do know enough to feel The Force. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will involve Gosling “playing a character that must protect a young charge against evil pursuers.” Based on THR’s reporting, it appears Goth will be back in her villain bag as one of the evil pursuers. In Star Wars’ interconnected maze of a timeline, Starfighter takes place five years after the events of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, even though Levy asserts that it’s not part of the same saga.

“This is a stand-alone. It’s not a prequel, not a sequel. It’s a new adventure. It’s set in a period of time that we haven’t seen explored yet,” Levy said at April’s Star Wars Celebration in Japan.

Even though they both share the same name, Levy’s movie will almost surely have little to no connection to the LucasArts game Star Wars: Starfighter, since that story takes place before and during the events of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Even so, it would be cool if Gosling piloted a ship through an asteroid field like Rhys Dallows does in the game. He would also be contributing to Star Wars’ long history of handsome men flying through a field of asteroids without messing up their immaculate hair, originated by Han Solo himself, Harrison Ford, in The Empire Strikes Back.

The film is set to release on May 28, 2027.

Fantastic Four Director Denies Doom’s Involvement In His Film

by admin June 5, 2025

Image: Disney

Ever since Robert Downey Jr. blew our multiversal minds at San Diego Comic-Con last year when he revealed he was returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom, Marvel fanatics have been trying to figure out just when Victor Von Doom would appear. After the Thunderbolts* post-credit scene appeared to hint at Dr. Doom’s arrival in the upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps, director Matt Shakman has emerged to slightly crush those dreams.

GameStop Doubles Down On Crypto With Massive Bitcoin Purchase As Stores Close

In an interview with Empire Magazine, Shakman plainly asserted that “Doom is not a part of my film, and therefore not a part of my purview.” That should be it, right? Wrong. Fans in denial (and delusion) are interpreting Shakman’s statements as technically true but not the full truth.

Some fans are focusing on how Shakman specifically mentioned that Doom is not part of his film or his purview. That sounds, they argue, like an attempt to establish plausible deniability, given how Marvel has separated certain duties on its films. After Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier revealed to ComicBook.com that the film’s post-credit scene was filmed weeks before the theatrical release, the Russo Brothers confirmed they were the ones who filmed it, rather than Schreier himself. That told Marvel fans that a film’s director doesn’t have to be involved with any post-credit reveals, which would align with Shakman’s assertion that Doom has nothing to do with his efforts on the film.

In the Thunderbolts* post-credit scene, the New Avengers get a notification that an unidentified aircraft had entered Earth’s atmosphere before we see the iconic “4″ logo of the Fantastic Four emblazoned on the side of the ship. Doom has hijacked the Fantastic Four’s ship multiple times in the comic books, so it’s not far-fetched to believe he might do the same in the MCU.

We’ll have to wait until July 25 to see if these theories are anything more than just fanboy fantasies.
