No Man’s Sky Fans Are Doing Wild Stuff With Voyagers Update

by admin September 3, 2025

After its initial reveal in 2013, anticipation for No Man’s Sky was astronomical–until it fell off of a procedurally generated cliff as eager virtual space explorers found the initial 2016 release a little too anemic, and lacking many features promised by Hello Games co-founder Sean Murray. The game’s devs, however, weren’t satisfied letting NMS drift off into the vacuum of forgotten games.

The Voyagers update, the latest in the studio’s persistent efforts to improve and deepen the experience of exploring its procedural universe, has been a hit with the game’s community. Allowing players to construct their own ships with fully traversable interiors and more, the update has seen a wild influx of players come to the game, the most since its launch on Steam in 2018.

Taking to X, Sean Murray shared that on September 1, which coincided with the Labor Day holiday in the U.S., NMS saw just under 100,000 concurrent players.

Highest number of players since launch 🤯 pic.twitter.com/d51JpviRb2

— Sean Murray (@NoMansSky) September 1, 2025

The game has also surged to second place in the top-10 most played Steam Deck games for the past week, surpassed only by Hollow Knight (fans of that game must be excited about something, I imagine). With so many players jumping in to play with the game’s new shipbuilding mechanics, the internet is full of cool new designs, including original creations, builds modeled after classic science fiction ships, and of course more than a few silly ones, such as this recreation of a Nokia 3310.

— Ray Reynolds (@RayReynoldsNMS) September 2, 2025

But while the ability to build new ships with fully furnished interiors is perhaps Voyagers’ most attention-grabbing addition to the game, the chance to finally float out in space is also drawing in players, inspiring some to take daredevilish skydiving trips from orbit down to the surface. And yes, folks are doing it in VR as well.

It may be hard for No Man’s Sky to fully match the level of hype early trailers inspired in the 2010s, but seeing what players are up to now with the Voyagers update sure as hell makes it feel like it’s finally become the epically endless space sim many of us were so excited to play.

Final Fantasy Tactics remaster devs built a replacement for its lost source code from fansite downloads, director says: ‘I do want to thank all of the fans for all of their help in keeping that information archived’

by admin September 2, 2025

Back in June, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles director Kazutoyo Maehiro offered something of an explanation for why it’s been more than a decade since FF Tactics has been playable on current platforms: Square Enix had lost the game’s original source code.

At a recent PAX West 2025 panel on August 30, Maehiro offered additional details on how the devs of the Ivalice Chronicles remaster stitched together a replacement for the original FF tactics source code, and how we should all thank fan archivists for their contributions to that effort.

“It’s true that we didn’t have the source code,” Maehiro said via translator. “The reason we didn’t have that has to do with how we managed things at the time.”

Related articles

Today, Maehiro said, Square Enix has “some really nice resource management tools” that archive a new version of a game’s code with every minute, daily update. But during the original development of Final Fantasy Tactics, the protocols were… a bit more lax, particularly while localizing the game in different languages.

“We would take the data from the Japanese version and overwrite the English data on it. And then if we wanted to do another language, we would just keep stacking data on top and overwriting and overwriting,” Maehiro said. “Basically, because we kept doing all that overwriting, the true original ceased to exist.”

That sound you hear is the collective shuddering of all the world’s programmers.

While Square Enix didn’t have to start from scratch for The Ivalice Chronicles, Maehiro said it was “difficult” to reassemble “the true original” of Final Fantasy Tactics from its PS1 release and its ports on PSP and mobile. Eventually, the Square Enix devs turned to the ultimate archival authority: the devoted sickos on Final Fantasy fan sites.

“We were using whatever resources we had available to us. We analyzed all those different versions to try and find what we felt was the original,” Maehiro said. “On top of that, we actually went to different websites made by fans and looked for data there, because we know you guys do such a good job of keeping that all up to date.”

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

After acknowledging the efforts of the “really good” engineering team that analyzed the various versions to reconstruct the ur-Final Fantasy Tactics, Maehiro offered his gratitude for fan archivists and game preservationists.

“I do want to thank all of the fans for all of their help in keeping that information archived like you do,” Maehiro said. “I think with all of that put together, we were able to make a very good version of the game that is true to the original.”

Borderlands 4 Rage Room Sounds Like A Car Crash And Fans Can’t Look Away

by admin August 31, 2025

Stroll by Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3 display at PAX West and you’ll see fans quietly playing the Divinity: Original Sin board game. Linger a little too long though, and you’ll hear what sounds like a car crashing through a McDonald’s drive-thru in the far corner of the show floor. And then another, and another. Follow the piercing sounds for long enough and you’ll arrive at the Borderlands 4 Ripper Rage Room, by far the most ridiculous marketing stunt at this year’s expo.

Fans of Gearbox Entertainment’s anarchic loot shooter, some adorned with its enemies’ iconic Psycho masks, are wrapped around a small, encased exhibit waiting for their chance to smash aluminum trash cans, glass bottles, and Dollar Store ceramics. Staff dress them in jumpsuits and riot helmets with plastic visors. Then, one at a time, they make their way into a plexiglass-ensconced chamber where they emotionally unburden themselves with a post-apocalyptic baseball bat.

It’s surprisingly loud and jarring, even when you know it’s coming. Imagine the heart-stopping moment in the restaurant when a waiter accidentally drops a giant tray of dishes. The immediate gasps as everyone experiences a simultaneous shot of fight-or-flight adrenaline followed by the hushed murmurings of people gawking at reality’s brief departure from the mundane.

The Ripper Rage Room debuted during the Borderlands 4 Warped Tour fan event earlier this summer in L.A. and is reprising its role for PAX West. The big difference, however, is that the annual Seattle-based expo features lots of booths ranging from PC gaming giveaways to first-time indie developers desperately trying to get someone to pay attention to their passion project.

More than one exhibitor has privately confided to me that “it must suck” for all the nearby booths who are trying to get attendees meandering on by to hang a second and listen to their pitch. In the case of Limited Run Games, the boutique physical game retailer closest to the Rage Room, that might mean hanging around long enough to pull the trigger on a copy of Clock Tower: Rewind for the Nintendo Switch. Then all of the sudden: *SNAP* *CRACKLE* *SMASH*.

But Gearbox is the king of PAX and it knows what the people want. Its massive booth for Borderlands 4, filled with dozens of demo stations and massive statutes of each of its Vault Hunter heroes, is both the most packed and the fastest at getting people through the queue. Fans at the Nintendo and Capcom booths complain about wait times and arcane requirements, like a lottery system for who actually gets to try Hollow Knight: Silksong on Switch 2.

And then there’s the Ripper Rage Room which, despite the absolute vibe-killing antics, always has people watching as each new fan briefly descends into a performative rampage, quietly realizing as they enter the translucent box that they are as much a part of the display as the brutalized silicon dummy standing in the corner. People love smashing shit. They love watching other people smash shit. Like the beautifully cel-shaded Skinner box at the heart of Borderlands franchise, it sometimes is just as simple as that.

Less straightforward is the task of needing to reassemble the Ripper Rage Room after each demolition. At least three staff race to stack the trash cans, folding chairs, bottles, and plates in precarious positions for optimal smashing. Trying to replicate chaos is an oxymoron but that is the mandate. Everyone knows what’s going to happen but they wait to watch it unfold again anyway. And what could be more Borderlands than that?

Many Battlefield 6 Fans Played Beta Using Minimum Specs, Says EA

by admin August 30, 2025

According to EA, the Battlefield 6 play test is the biggest beta in Battlefield’s history in terms of players. Research firm Oppenheimer estimated that the beta reached more than 20 million people. However, a “substantial number” of those fans may have been playing Battlefield 6 with the minimum recommended specs.

Battlefield 6 technical director Christian Buhl made that assertion during an interview with Eurogamer. Buhl also noted that EA and DICE planned from the beginning to ensure that players using lower-end hardware would still receive a comparable experience to those on high-end machines.

“Min spec is certainly one of our most important specs … it’s super important from both a commercial and business perspective,” said Buhl. “We want as many people as possible playing the game … We did a lot of analysis, we did tests on the game on a wide range of hardware above and below our minimum and recommended specs. We figured out what we can hit, what we need to hit from a business perspective, and that was to capture a wide audience on PC. It’s been super critical.”

In the same interview, Buhl addressed the game’s unpopular secure boot requirement, which he says is critical to fighting cheaters.

“The fact is I wish we didn’t have to do things like Secure Boot,” said Buhl. “It does prevent some players from playing the game. Some people’s PCs can’t handle it and they can’t play: that really sucks. I wish everyone could play the game with low friction and not have to do these sorts of things … Unfortunately these are some of the strongest tools in our toolbox to stop cheating.”

EA has shared the PC specs for Battlefield 6, as well as some upcoming changes to based on player feedback from the beta. Battlefield 6 launches on October 10 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Elden Ring Nightreign Endless Mode Finds New Way To Punish Fans

by admin August 28, 2025

Revealed weeks ago in a datamine, Elden Ring: Nightreign publisher Bandai Namco has officially confirmed a new endgame difficulty mode coming to the multiplayer roguelite next month. Deep of Night features new relics, randomized challenges, and an endless mode for those able to reach it.

“‘Deep of Night’ is a high-difficulty challenge mode designed for seasoned players who have navigated through the Night many times,” the publisher writes in a new blog post. The mode arrives on September 10 during the game’s usual update time and changes up the usual Nightreign run in a few ways. Players won’t be able to select the Nightlord they face or which Shifting Earth event is active, and enemies will all be stronger.

The “high-difficulty mode” is separated by various depths. Depth 1 is the easiest. Depths 2 and 3 are harder. Depths 4 and 5, meanwhile, feature an “endless battle for those seeking even greater thrills” so you can just play until you die. A skill-based matchmaking system will rank players and group them accordingly. Plus, new Relics and additional Vessel slots will give players more buildcrafting opportunities.

What does Nightreign change in Deep of Night?

The most challenging bit of Deep of Night might not be the boss fights either. Players who have already been exploring the mode early, thanks to mods, have found that the Night’s Tide storm, which slowly engulfs the map, does more damage. And that’s even before players suffer from a new debuff exclusive to gear discovered in the Deep of Night mode, which makes players more susceptible to the toxic rainfall. The rarest loot players pick up can come with other drawbacks as well to make surviving that much harder.

For now, players have two more weeks to try and beat any Everdark Sovereigns that are still on their to-do list. For many, that’s probably Libra, a fight that’s equal parts clever and chaotic. Fans have also already discovered clues for additional upcoming Nightreign content in the form of new subclasses. It’s unclear if those will be part of another free update or paid DLC in the future. There’s still so much of Elden Ring that could be repurposed into new content for the multiplayer spin-off.

One thing that I’d love to see FromSoftware do, and which presumably wouldn’t cost any extra money, is just flip a switch to make all of Nightreign‘s random events spawn more frequently. Some players have spent 100 hours in the game and still only encountered them once or twice.

CoD fans mourn popular skin after big Black Ops 7 carry forward change

by admin August 28, 2025

Call of Duty fans are going to miss one fan-favorite skin in Black Ops 7 after it was announced that skins from Black Ops 6 will not carry forward.

Over the last few years, Call of Duty players have gotten increasingly vocal about their dislike of some of the cartoony skins that have started populating the games.

Rather than crossovers with Beavis and Butthead, American Dad, and even Godzilla, they want more realistic and military skins added to the mix. With Black Ops 7’s release on the horizon, it has been announced that cosmetics from Black Ops 6 won’t be carried forward.

Article continues after ad

“Black Ops 7 needs to feel authentic to Call of Duty and its setting. That is why Black Ops 6 Operator and Weapon content will not carry forward to Black Ops 7,” the devs said. Warzone, however, will be unaffected by this.

Black Ops fans will miss The Replacer skin in BO7

The change has been somewhat celebrated by fans. Many are hopeful that the apparent switch to be more “authentic” will deliver them what they’ve been asking for, while others fear cosmetic sales will become rampant.

However, some are going to miss pretty popular skins. “RIP The Replacer,” Redditor ILoveKetchup402 said, mourning the inability to use it in Black Ops 7. “RIPlacer,” another added.

“I absolutely despise Beavis & Butthead, unicorns, cartoons etc. I just wanted to use my replacer, t800, ballerina,” another commented. “That’s what pissed me off about the switch. I bought The Replacer skin because I thought I would be able to use him in both games,” another said.

Others quipped that the devs will simply re-release popular skins so fans have to fork out again.

“Don’t worry, The Replacer will be replaced by the new The Replacer,” one joked.

As noted, skins purchased in Black Ops 6 will still be usable in Warzone. So, you’re not losing them for good. They just won’t be in normal multiplayer games.

Buzzy Ethereum Game Football.fun Has Soccer Fans Scoring Crypto Gains

by admin August 28, 2025

In brief

  • Football.fun is a new on-chain soccer platform that blends crypto trading with fantasy sports gameplay.
  • The platform has grown by more than 10x in the last two weeks.
  • Users can buy shares in their favorite soccer players from the world’s top pro leagues and profit on their success.

The growing soccer talk among active crypto traders is not just due to the return of the English Premier League (EPL), but also thanks in large part to Football.fun—a growing on-chain ecosystem that has provided sizable returns to early participants and soccer fans alike.

The newly established protocol built on Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 network, Base, allows users to buy shares in their favorite soccer players like Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe across the world’s top professional leagues—like the EPL, La Liga, and Bundesliga—and be rewarded based on their actual performance.

The game blends the experience of opening trading cards with elements of fantasy sports and crypto trading, and has grown more than 10x in just a few weeks—with the total market cap of player shares jumping from $6 million to more than $65 million since August 12.

We’ve seen soccer fandom come to crypto in other ways before, such as through NFT fantasy game Sorare and via official fan tokens for a variety of top teams. But Football.fun is the latest effort that’s making waves—here’s how it works.

How Football.fun works

On Football.fun, users can trade shares of professional soccer players from the world’s top leagues.

These shares not only act as a representative for the player in fantasy contests that reflect their on-the-pitch performance, but they also operate like crypto tokens, allowing users to speculate on their future value by buying and selling them like other popular crypto assets or meme coins.

That speculation has led to massive gains for early users as the platform saw an influx of new users and rush of deposits, now up to $17 million in total, and a peak daily trading volume of greater than $15 million on August 24 according to a Dune dashboard.

Shares can be acquired in two different ways: from the open market, where a user can use Gold (GOLD), the Football.fun market currency that is backed 1:1 with stablecoin USDC; or via packs, which can be acquired with tournament points (TP), earned via play in the platform’s biweekly fantasy contests.

Packs, which offer shares in four random soccer players, come in three different tiers and prices, with the lowest offering 8-14 shares of players and the highest offering 285-535 shares for 2,000 TP.

Because shares are only distributed via packs or the open market, the price of each player is wholly determined by the market supply and demand. Leading players like Yamal and Mbappe are priced at 1.61 GOLD and 1.22 GOLD, respectively–or $1.61 and $1.22 per share.

Shares in less established or less skilled players can be acquired for as little as $0.02 per share.

Playing Football.fun

The utility of a player’s shares reaches beyond speculation, as Football.fun users can use them to create “squads” playable in biweekly tournaments on the site.

These squads or lineups act like those in typical fantasy sports leagues, traversing up and down leaderboards based on the actual performance of the players on the pitch. In addition to getting points for scoring goals and saving shots, players also can have points subtracted for blunders like own goals or missed chances.

For each tournament, the soccer players that perform inside the top five at their position (or top three for goalkeepers) are rewarded—ultimately rewarding the Football.fun user who has them on their squad with Tournament Points (TP) and Skill Points, which allow them to promote players to their active squad.

Because TP is needed to open packs, a flywheel is created in which players are incentivized to create a squad to earn TP, and then use the TP to earn shares, which they can use to play the game or sell on the open market.

But there’s a twist to playing shares on Football.fun: You can’t just own all the top players and use them for every single tournament.

Instead each share comes with four “contracts,” or uses within a tournament on the platform. In other words, one share of Yamine Lamal will allow the user to put him on a roster and accrue points for his performance only four times. After that, a user must pay to “renew” his contract or purchase more shares of the player to use them in tournaments.

Own the players you back every weekend.

Build your squad with Europe’s biggest stars.

Compete, win, and own the world of football.

Built on Base. pic.twitter.com/l0RcqOXcEV

— Football.Fun (@footballdotfun) August 11, 2025

Though the platform is in its infancy, it has already amassed more than 12,000 unique depositors for its pro product, and more than 3 million GOLD sits in balances on the platform waiting to purchase shares of new players on the open market. In the future, it intends to add a scouting system to help widen the pool of available soccer players.

Elden Ring Nightreign Fans Are Already Playing The Unannounced Hard Mode

by admin August 26, 2025

Elden Ring Nightreign‘s final Everdark Sovereign arrived last week and die-hard fans are ready for a new challenge. FromSoftware hasn’t officially revealed what’s coming to the multiplayer roguelite spin-off next, but that hasn’t stopped some players from diving into the secret new ranked mode that was added to the game’s files earlier this month and discovering what’s there for themselves.

A reference to The Deep of Night was first discovered in Nightreign by dataminers shortly after its Duos update arrived in late July. Other details hidden in the files suggested it was an endless mode with skill-based matchmaking that would give hardcore players a new challenge to overcome. It would even add slots to their existing vessel so new types of relics could be added to help them with these tougher runs, it seemed.

Weeks later, some players have been taking advantage of mods to try The Deep of Night out for themselves, even as publisher Bandai Namco remains silent about what it has planned for Nightreign‘s future. It can only be played on PC solo on a separate save file and play is limited to the first round. But that hasn’t dissuaded the game’s sweatiest Nightfarers from dipping their tarnished toes into this new version of Limveld.

While some mods unlock the mode itself, others unlock the new Deep relics for purchase from the signboard. People have been uploading their expeditions to YouTube, showing some of the new gear exclusive to The Deep of Night and their unique trade-offs. Unlike regular loot found during runs, each piece of gear in the Deep comes with additional debuffs to add to the difficulty. A Sentry’s Torch, for example, might improve lightning damage negation and boost damage negation from getting hit, but also dramatically raise the damage you take from being out in the Night’s Tide storm which, as someone who frequently spends half of the run out there, would be an instant death sentence for me.

Enemies are also way tankier in general. Rats in the starting camp will take three hits to kill instead of two. Some enemies also look like contaminated versions of themselves. Otherwise, it’s mostly the same game people have been playing for months, at least in the first round. Deep of Night runs thus far haven’t revealed any new weapons or secrets, though that could change if players survive into the later rounds or manage to get their rank high enough to unlock access to things not currently referenced in the datamined files.

We won’t know for sure until FromSoftware makes the mode official. That could come as early as this week or sometime later in September if it decides to wait until the last batch of Everdark Sovereigns have cycled through a second time. According to datamined leaks, there are also new character classes coming to Nightreign at some point. Whether they will be part of a free update or a paid DLC is unclear. The game’s biggest fans remain hungry for anything new the developers can throw at them. Hopefully, that ends up being sooner than later.

Ratatan carries the musical torch for Patapon fans

by admin August 25, 2025

Pata-Pata-Pata-Pon? Nope. Not anymore. It’s 2025, we’re doing Rata-Tata-Tata-Tan now. Got it? Good. We spoke with the developers behind Patapon’s spiritual successor, Ratatan, to learn plenty more about the new rhythm game 14 years on from the last iteration.

For those of us who grew up on the right side of history, the PSP was the ultimate escape. Anywhere you went, Kratos, Daxter, Snake, and of course, your legion of Patapons were always there by your side. But now, well, it’s been a while since we’ve Pata’d any Pons.

Article continues after ad

The last Patapon game landed on the PSP all the way back in 2011, and since then, there’s been little movement in the rhythm-action game landscape. That is, until now, as those responsible for the adorably murderous little guys couldn’t hold out any longer. It’s finally time for a return to form.

Ratatan may be different in name, but it shares plenty in common with the classics that kept us entertained for hours on end, even when we weren’t playing. I still hear their voices in my head!

Article continues after ad

Article continues after ad

With an Early Access build now out, we’ve been hands-on and have spoken to Producer Saisu Sakijiri Kazuto in order to learn all about it.

What is Ratatan?

If you’re unfamiliar with Patapan, it may all look a bit…strange, on the surface here in Ratatan. Who are all these odd little creatures, and why are they so hungry for blood? Well, you see, the answer is rather simple.

As the reveal trailer explained all too well, “rhythm fuels your fight.”

Article continues after ad

Music underpins everything you do in Ratatan. By listening to the soundtrack and timing your button presses to the beat, your army of critters, known as Cobuns, will then be compelled to fight on your behalf.

By tapping a sequence of buttons to the rhythm, your Cobuns may lunge forward and attack, or perhaps they’ll enter a defensive position. The choice is yours as you effectively layer notes down on a track and create a musically-driven battle sequence in the moment.

Article continues after ad

Article continues after ad

When you lose yourself in the flow state, it’s utterly sublime, and no gaming experience has ever really tried to replicate it since Patapon.

Ratata Arts / Tokyo Virtual TheoryPicking the right commands in the right moments is the key to victory in Ratatan.

Think of it like how so many millions committed Helldivers 2’s Strategems to memory. Up, Right, Down, Down, Down. If you know, you know. Here in Ratatan, it’s the same thing in many respects. As you upgrade your arsenal and acquire new skills, you’re learning the cadence of new input chains and watching as they destroy dozens of enemies at a time.

Article continues after ad

But what makes this new iteration different after all these years? As we learned not just in playing the game, but in speaking to the Producer, the dev team couldn’t just re-record their greatest hits again. Instead, they’re eyeing a new genre, something with a bit more chaotic energy.

Ratata Arts / Tokyo Virtual TheoryCobuns look charming, but we advise staying out of biting distance.

This go around, gameplay systems have been remixed. With roguelike qualities, every time you load into a level, you can expect something different. Whether it’s unique attacks like dealing explosive damage or a game-changing upgrade, you’re always kept on your toes.

Article continues after ad

Article continues after ad

But that’s just the start of it. From top to bottom, the experience has been given a fresh coat of paint with richer RPG systems allowing for weapons to be unlocked and upgraded, stats to be boosted, and plenty more.

With classic boss fights thrown in as well, it perfectly recaptures the essence of the original series while bringing it forward in interesting ways.

What the devs say about it

(The following interview was conducted by Dexerto’s Virginia Glaze over Summer Game Fest 2025)

Honoring Patapon with a modern remix

“We’re very pleased there is still enthusiasm for [the series]. We want players to feel that legacy of Patapon, but also experience something new with Ratatan.

“I’m good friends with the original creator [Hiroyuki Kotani]. One day we were just hanging out, having some drinks. We thought ‘Hey, what if we revisit this type of game? That’s how it started.

“We’re just really happy to come back together and make a new game.”

Finding a new flow

“Things have changed over the last 14 years. We wanted to go with a more modern approach.

“Roguelike has become a very popular genre. So we wanted to keep it true to the original but have that modern angle.

“Patapon had a lot of RPG elements involved. With Ratatan, we wanted to head more towards an action style. Transitioning into action created a lot of challenges.

“We respect titles such as Hollow Knight. We wanted to combine elements from games like that with the flavor of Patapon.”

Multiple artists

“The development team for Ratatan is made up of two teams. One of the teams, Ratata Arts, their contribution is to the multiplayer aspect. One of the reasons for making multiplayer was that we wanted to bring players together through music and have it be global.”

Early Access playlist

“Early Access is available from September 19 on Steam. It has five stages and all eight characters.

“We plan to release across PC and consoles in future, but we have two major Early Access updates planned before the final release.”

Currently, there’s no clear indication when Ratatan may launch in full, but we’ll certainly be listening in throughout Early Access which you can check out here.

Why Peacemaker’s White Rabbit cameo has already divided Batman fans

by admin August 22, 2025

Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 1 featured a brief cameo from White Rabbit, a niche DC comics character with a big connection to Batman – and some fans aren’t happy.

James Gunn doesn’t pull many punches in the opening episode of Peacemaker’s new season. He completely retcons the Justice League’s appearance in the Season 1 finale, simply reshooting the scene and replacing them with the Justice Gang.

If you’re invested in the DCU, there’s plenty of Easter eggs to spot and ponder; does the Bludhaven reference mean Nightwing already exists, is Jared Leto’s Joker officially out after those 30 Seconds to Mars jokes, and who is the “jarhead” Harcourt is dating in the other dimension?

Article continues after ad

Batman isn’t mentioned at all in Episode 1, but we do get a glimpse of a lesser-known character from his rogues’ gallery.

Who is White Rabbit?

DC

White Rabbit, real name Jaina Hudson, is a Gotham City criminal and Batman foe who was first introduced in The Dark Knight Vol 2 #1 in 2011.

Article continues after ad

Raised in a wealthy family by an American diplomat and Bollywood actress, she grows up to assume the mantle of White Rabbit, a mysterious criminal dressed like a bunny who has the ability to duplicate herself into two separate beings, allowing her to be in two places at once.

Article continues after ad

Batman has had some notable encounters with her in the comics, like flirting with her non-villainous counterpart at a charity function or spotting her at an Arkham Asylum breakout.

Why Batman fans are unhappy about Peacemaker’s White Rabbit cameo

In Episode 1, White Rabbit is played by Brey Noelle. She’s on-screen for around 10 seconds, crying and storming out of her interview with the Justice Gang.

She’s wearing a comic-accurate costume, complete with the pink-striped and white corset, ears, and knee-high boots. So, what’s the problem?

Article continues after ad

For those pushing the agenda for Robert Pattinson’s Batman to join the DCU, it makes it look… less likely, given the grittier, less showy aesthetic of Matt Reeves’ Elseworlds universe. Do you think Pattinson’s caped crusader would face off against a villain like this, considering the Penguin’s last name was changed from Cobblepot to Cobb because it sounded more grounded?

Article continues after ad

“Okay, Battinson is definitely not the DCU Batman,” one user wrote with a screenshot of White Rabbit from the new episode. “It took White Rabbit for people to get off the merger train bc they know Reeves would NEVER,” another posted.

Article continues after ad

“I really don’t know why it took people so long to realize that their visuals, tones, and thematic approaches are irreconcilable,” a third wrote. “Yeah any ideas or thoughts I had about how it could work for Battison in the DCU after this episode are dead,” another tweeted.

Others aren’t ready to give up hope, citing how projects like Daredevil and Thor: Love and Thunder take place in the same Marvel universe, despite being polar opposites in terms of tone, violence, and character designs.
