Skate’s $35 Dead Space Skin Upsets Fans

by admin October 8, 2025

Skateboarding games are a hell of a good time and EA’s recent skate, the free-to-play title aiming to reboot EA’s once-cherished series, is trying to lure folks back into the thrills of digital ollies and kickflips. And because it’s a free-to-play game from a AAA publisher in 2025, it’s got microtransactions and seasons and all that stuff. While we mostly tolerate this silliness in games nowadays, some stuff is just too expensive and too ugly to pass without comment.

Instead of throwing money at the screen for a skin of space zombie-stomper Isaac Clarke from Dead Space, fans of skate have taken to the internet to throw shade at the developers for selling such an ugly version of Clarke for $35 bucks (h/t comrade Pitts at GameSpot). That’s like, a whole meal at Taco Bell these days (with maybe a drink if you’re lucky). It’s also the price of many full, complete games you can play from start to finish. That’s probably what’s left folks so sore: skate. Is the type of game you could once plunk down a moderate sum for and be done with it, but is now yet another nagging wallet leech trying to bank on your nostalgia.

You can buy 3 Dead Sapce games with that money (and probably 3 Skate games)

— Diogo Rodrigues (@Rodrigues_520) October 7, 2025

The situation reminds us just how far we’ve come from an era of gaming that felt more respectful of our time and money. One fan over on r/SkateEA points out that 2010’s Skate 3 had an Isaac Clarke skin–but it was free and seemed more faithful to the character’s appearance in the original game.

It’s a real shame as skate looks like a good time otherwise, full of all of the crazy stuff we’ll never be able to do in real life on a skateboard.

And as another fan on Reddit opines, the game’s battle pass (skate pass?) just contains “ugly accessories and clothing along with phoned in feeling graphics for decks” instead of stuff from actual skate brands. And if ever there was an industry that was ripe for having its aesthetics  cut up and sold in little bits, it’s the skateboard industry. With its various legendary designs, from the epic birds of Birdhouse Skateboards to the gorgeous artwork found on your average Element board (which used to my brand of choice back in the day), there’s a ton of cool designs that could be packaged into the game as a fitting tribute to the industry. I’d still be annoyed if those cost $35 a piece, but at least they’d feel a little more relevant.

C’mon, EA.

Fox One Review: Fox’s Streaming Service Is Heavy on Sports and News, and Made for Fox Fans

by admin October 3, 2025

Pros

  • Expansive access to sports games of all types
  • Immersive experience for sports fans, with sports, stats and analysis
  • Many ways to personalize feed
  • Unlimited DVR

Cons

  • Difficult accessibility features
  • User experience inconsistent across devices
  • Limited access to primetime shows
  • No original content

Fox One, Fox Corporation’s first-ever direct-to-consumer streaming service, launched on Aug. 21 — the same day ESPN launched its own. Fox’s entire channel portfolio, which includes Fox News Channel, Fox Nation, Fox Sports, B1G, FS1, FS2, local Fox stations and the Fox Network, can be found here for $20 a month.

What makes Fox One appealing, or at least of interest, is its focus on live sports and news programming. This is an attractive feature for customers, and, if you look around, you’ll notice a growing number of streamers vying for a piece of the live TV pie. Outside of live TV, news and sports, Fox One’s library includes an array of on-demand programming and a selection of Fox’s primetime hit shows like The Simpsons and Hell’s Kitchen.

Though the platform combines the functionality of an on-demand streamer with a cable-like experience, there are some limitations. Is this enough to make Fox One a viable option in a streaming landscape crowded with premium platforms, competitively priced bundles and FAST services and channels?

Fox One feels like a good fit if you’re a fan of Fox and want anytime access to its live programming library. To that point, though, there are other streaming services offering much more content (and value) that make it difficult to justify the streamer’s $20 price tag.

Don’t miss any of our unbiased tech content and lab-based reviews. Add CNET as a preferred Google source.

What is Fox One and how much does it cost?

After the demise of Venu, the joint sports streaming venture from ESPN, Warner Bros. Discovery and Fox, the media companies involved pivoted to their own alternative streaming projects. This past May, Fox announced the name of its app, Fox One, and launched the platform in August, with an emphasis on live programming. Targeted toward cord-cutters and Fox’s news and sports audience, the streaming app features niche content.

Fox One has two main subscription tiers, depending on the type of programming you’re interested in watching. It’s available to pay TV customers (eg. cable and satellite) at no extra cost, and next month, the streaming service will be part of a bundle with Disney’s ESPN. The company plans to partner up and offer additional bundling options in the future.

The basic Fox One plan costs $20 a month, or $200 annually, and provides a mix of live sports, news and entertainment content from across the Fox portfolio. The Fox One-Fox Nation tier costs $5 more at $25 a month and features everything the basic Fox One plan has, along with full access to Fox News and Fox Nation. Both plans offer a seven-day free trial and an unlimited DVR, and if you get Fox through a cable or satellite TV subscription, you can access Fox One for free.

When you visit the site, you can choose to sign up for one of Fox’s standalone streaming subscriptions to Fox Nation or B1G Plus. Each of these platforms has been around for a few years now, with Fox Nation priced at $9 a month or $71 annually (also, with a seven-day free trial), and B1G Plus costing $13 a month or $90 annually. Bear in mind these services are separate from Fox One, but customers can conveniently sign up in one place.

What’s it like like to use?

The Fox One homepage on my smart TV shows the menu options on the left side of the screen.

Screenshot by Aaron Pruner/CNET

For over a week, I tested the Fox One app on multiple devices. The design and user experience are pretty standard, and navigating through the app is simple enough. The home menus will appear in different positions, depending on the device you are using. On the web, you’ll find the main buttons at the top of the screen for Home, Live, Sports, News, Shows and My Stuff. There are also network hub buttons on the home page to help you easily navigate to content for Fox, FS1, FS2, Fox News, Fox Weather, Fox Deportes, Fox Business and B1G Network.

The menu headers appear on the left side of the screen when the app is used on a Roku Stick and my Samsung Smart TV. When using the app on my Samsung Galaxy S25, I found the menu at the bottom of the screen, which also included a selection for Shorts — a section featuring short-form vertical TikTok-style video clips highlighting moments from news programming and sports.

The live programming options were the first tiles I saw when scrolling through the home page, followed by a row dedicated to upcoming news and sports-themed shows. There are also rows for networks, teams, and personalities — listed as Fox Voices — which you can click to follow to further customize your viewing experience.

The viewer experience becomes more personal to you the more you interact with the platform.

During playback, watching live and on-demand programming worked as expected, offering crisp video quality and solid streaming. Clicking on the rewind or fast-forward button on my TV moves the progress of the video in short increments. The same functionality exists on the web, but you can also simply use the mouse to drag the progress bar anywhere in the video, which I found more intuitive.

Recording a program to the DVR is best when using the mobile app, the smart TV app or something like a Roku or Amazon Fire TV. Any show I clicked on had an Add to My Stuff button, which does exactly that. I attempted to do the same thing when logged into the website but was only able to record future programming through the live guide.

The service allows users to watch a sporting event or news show live in the moment, with the option to start from the beginning. If you’re looking to catch up on the latest game and don’t have the time to sit through multiple hours, the service offers rows where you can view condensed games, shorter recaps, clips and analysis.

Fox One’s multiview feature, as seen on my Roku device.

Screenshot by Aaron Pruner/CNET

The multiview function has its own dedicated row for watching multiple live programs at once. Fox News and Fox Business are grouped together, as are Fox News, Fox Business and Fox Weather, FS1 and BTN and FS1 and Fox News. This function works as expected and plays the feeds side-by-side in real time with the audio from whatever program you highlight.

This is one of the features I was really looking forward to using. However I discovered that it can only be found using TV OS, Amazon Fire TV or Roku, the last of which I do have. Fox told CNET that more devices will support the feature in the future.

Selecting the guide pulls up a live programming schedule that features limited channels. You cannot remove them entirely or customize the order in which they appear. That said, you can browse upcoming scheduled shows by date up to 14 days ahead of time.

When you click on a show that hasn’t aired yet, you can add it to My Stuff and the app will automatically record it for you. If you choose a game from the guide, you’ll be able to add it to My Stuff, but the service will also give you a list of options that’ll allow you to follow the league and the teams going head-to-head, which will prompt Fox One to record all programming associated with both.

As I stated previously, I used the app for about a week, so I didn’t spend extensive time testing the DVR. It worked as expected, and if you’re concerned about missing any shows, you can record up to 14 days in advance.

Fox One’s vertical live guide on mobile.

Screenshot by Aaron Pruner/CNET

Design-wise, I noticed on my TV that the thumbnail art and episode descriptions within a show’s season overlapped, making it impossible to read. This didn’t happen with every title I clicked on, so I am assuming this is an issue that is being ironed out. That said, suggestions for similar programming came up cluttered with a hodgepodge of shows that had no similarities to the show I was watching at all.

Advertisements; you can’t get away from them. They’re here, but the ad load, as I experienced it, was lighter than what I’ve become used to when watching Hulu or even WWE Raw on Netflix. Since we’re still in the early days of the app, I have a feeling this will change.

One more note about the ads: While I did experience ad breaks during the live news shows and live sports I clicked play on, there were no commercials interrupting the recap videos and clips.

Fox One’s accessibility settings are slim, and when I tinkered with closed captioning, I found the feature difficult to access and the experience was inconsistent across devices. On my TV, I was met with a QR code that directed me to a website that gave a support email address to contact. The same thing happened when using my Android mobile device. Fox advised that iPhone users are able to change these settings.

Since I don’t have an iPhone, though, the only way I could edit the style, appearance and placement of the captions was through the Fox One website. Instead of under my Account, I found the small CC icon at the bottom right corner of the video player itself.

The closed captioning settings menu, as it appears on Fox One’s web-based app.

Screenshot by Aaron Pruner/CNET

A tiny gear appears next to the CC icon, only when it’s turned on. Clicking that reveals a pop-up menu where changes can be made to font size, font style, font family, font color, font opacity, character edge, character edge color, background color, background opacity, window color and window opacity.

After changing things like size, color and style, the captions still varied in appearance, depending on the programming I was viewing and what device I was using.

What content is and isn’t on Fox One?

Don’t expect a deep library of Fox shows. Fox One’s library isn’t light, but it does feel light on Fox’s primetime TV hits. You’ll find shows like The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, The Masked Singer and Hell’s Kitchen here, but the episode and season count will be limited.

As I sifted through the shows, I began to notice that the newest seasons of shows — which have already completed their initial episode runs — were the only ones available to watch. If you’re looking to catch up on previous seasons of your favorite shows, you won’t find them here. However, you can watch primetime programming live by clicking on your Fox local channel in the live guide.

The app leans heavily into linear territory, instead of creating bespoke, original content. The reason, according to CEO Lachlan Murdoch, is to keep costs low and attract a cord-cutting crowd who wants access to Fox’s content, without subscribing to cable TV.

Fox One has plenty of content for sports fanatics and consumers of Fox News programming. The viewing experience is surprisingly immersive. The lineup of on-demand and live sports games goes quite deep here. For instance, football fans can find a plethora of NFL content on the app. It’s the first league listed in its programming row. Since Fox carries NFL games that are broadcast on Sunday afternoons, you can stream them on Fox One (and be sure to check out CNET’s NFL cord-cutters’ streaming guide).

The leagues row on the Fox One app is packed with sports programming options.

Screenshot by Aaron Pruner/CNET

There’s more than NFL games available on Fox One. A lot more. After a quick scroll-through on the Sports menu, I found the Leagues row halfway down the page. You can find nearly everything here, from MLB and college football to NASCAR, LIV Golf, college basketball, women’s college basketball and MLS. Take note: The NBA does not have a presence on Fox One.

There are rows upon rows of sports content dedicated to the leagues I listed above. It’s a bit overwhelming, to be honest. The amount of sport-specific replays and recaps can be dizzying to someone like me (I don’t really follow sports), but for die-hard fans, this is an absolute treasure trove. If you need a break from the games, you can find a plethora of sports analysis programming.

The app’s Top 10 picks are clickable for each menu listing — Sports, Shows and News — so if you want to watch the episodes of popular titles like Gutfeld!, Family Guy, Jesse Watters Primetime, The Joel Klatt Show or Outnumbered, you can stream new seasons (and in some cases, a few older seasons). If you have a favorite host or Fox personality, the Fox Voices row lists popular commentators like Tom Brady, Colin Cowherd and Nick Wright, and you can follow any of them to personalize your viewing experience.

Should you get it?

Only the latest season of The Simpsons is available to watch on the Fox One app.

Screenshot by Aaron Pruner/CNET

It really depends on what you’re looking for. Fox One, at least in its current iteration, is an app that’s meant to act as a supplemental means of watching Fox content. The library of Fox’s primetime hits may be lacking, but there’s a strong possibility that you’re already subscribed to Hulu, Disney Plus or another streamer that has these shows.

The app is stacked with content, though. If you’re a big sports fan or can’t get enough of Fox News, Fox One may be of interest. It’s got the desirable features like multiview and the live guide I mentioned earlier. Fox One is available on pretty much every device available on the market, but the user experience varies. And then there are the accessibility difficulties I mentioned above.

If you’re already a cable TV subscriber, I can see the value in using Fox One at no additional cost. But outside of that, Fox One, as a standalone app, doesn’t feel like it’s worth the $20 monthly price tag. Perhaps that’ll change now that the bundle with ESPN is live.

Genshin Impact’s 5th anniversary log-in event is now live, giving fans a rare chance to claim some free pulls

by admin October 1, 2025

Today is a big day for Genshin Impact and its players. Not only does it see the start of the second phase of the massive Version Luna I update (previously Version 6.0), the game is also kicking off celebrations in honour of last Sunday’s fifth anniversary of its initial launch way back on September 28th, 2020 (where did the time go?).

Whether you’ve been away for a while, or you’re pretty much done with most of the content that arrived with Luna I, now is a great time to come back.

Genshin Impact’s anniversary events are quite a big deal because they’re among the rare occasions where players can directly get free gacha pulls — in particular Intertwined Fate, the currency used to pull on time-limited banners. HoYoverse gifts these pulls to players only twice in a typical year, and one of those is the annual anniversary celebration.

The 5th Anniversary Celebration event “Rainbow’s End: Silvery Flux” is a good excuse to log in, because you’ll be getting 1,600 Primogems in your in-game mail, alongside an event granting 10 Intertwined Fate pulls (alongside some character and artifact levelling materials, plus regular Mora currency) if you just log in for at least seven days over the next three weeks.

There are opportunities to earn even more rewards. If you complete the Archon Quest within the specified window, you can earn 620 Primogems, and a free Aino unlock. And, if you complete exploration missions – also within the specified duration – you’ll get 400 more Primogems.

The other big news for Phase 2 of this update is the arrival of Flins, who players are very much eager to play as, thanks to so many teasers. Flins is a 5-Star Polearm wielder who fires Lunar-Charged strikes. You can spec him so all of the damage is delivered in a single attack, or split it among smaller attacks. Flins will also make for a great companion if you go on exploring the new Nod-Krai region.

Catch up on all our coverage for Version Luna I (6.0) and its banners at the link, and definitely have a look at our Lauma builds. If you never made it to the new region, here’s how to actually get to Nod-Krai.

Street Fighter 6 Fans Dumbfounded Over Capcom’s Decision To Go Pay-Per-View

by admin October 1, 2025

The Capcom Cup started in 2013 with Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition as the Japanese publisher sought to professionalize and take more direct ownership of its hit fighting franchise’s competitive scene. It expanded into multi-month tours leading up to the big finals, with all of the biggest matches streamed for free online. And it’s continued that way, until now. Capcom announced this week that the 2026 finals for Street Fighter 6 will be a pay-per-view event, and fans are not happy. “No one should be deprived of the opportunity to enjoy the pinnacle of Street Fighter,” Evo 2025 winner Saul Leonardo “MenaRD” Mena II wrote on X in response to the news.

The two-time Capcom Cup champion hails from the Dominican Republic and noted, as many pros have, that locking esports behind a paywall particularly impacts fans from regions where the financial barriers are already higher. “I find it hard to accept,” he wrote. “I understand that in Japan, this is considered normal, and fortunately, the community is still able to support each other in this way. However, in many regions, including my own, there is hardly even the leeway to play this game.”

… https://t.co/DAVzvxvUWu

— WBG MenaRD🇩🇴 (@_MenaRD__) September 28, 2025

The Capcom Cup 12 Finals will take place on March 14, followed by the Street Fighter League World Championship on March 15. Both will take place live at the Ryōgoku Kokugikan Sumo Arena in Tokyo, Japan, where front row seats will cost roughly $135. In a major break with the past, however, even virtual viewership will be ticketed this time around. The pay-per-view ticket price will be roughly $40 for both days. Anyone who doesn’t want to pay will have to wait until a week later to stream the matches online for free.

The move caught many competitive Street Fighter pros by surprise. Next year’s Capcom Cup sports a $1,282,000 prize pool, unchanged from the prior year, despite the new income stream. “If this decision is final, then I hope at the very least a % of the PPV earnings be used to support the prize pool to improve the payout distribution for the players,” Arman “Phenom” Hanjani wrote on X.

The issue is that while Capcom funds the CC Finals, they absolutely do not pay to run all of the tournaments where people qualify for Capcom Cup. Individual TOs and communities in countries around the world operate those events. Capcom benefits from the hardwork of those TOs and…

— 女 Molly_Bee (@MollyAmberBee) September 29, 2025

It’s also unclear how the PPV requirement will impact the rest of the competitive scene’s content creators who traditionally co-stream events. Others have wondered why Capcom doesn’t just try to extract more money through Capcom Cup-specific in-game outfits and other cosmetics. “I don’t know why they’re not doing this anymore. I used to buy the CPT costume pack every year, everyone wins and everyone is happy,” wrote Adel “Big Bird” Anouche.

Fans are equally bewildered, pointing to all of the local events that feed into the Capcom Pro Tour but aren’t directly financed by the publisher. “I thought Capcom organized this circuit as a marketing tool for the game,” one wrote on Reddit. “Makes no sense to charge viewers to watch it. And esports is, unfortunately, still way too niche for that to be profitable.”

While Street Fighter is massive in Japan, many are worried the move to PPV for such a big event will just end up excluding people in other parts of the world. Does Capcom care? Apparently not.

New PS5 Model Ditches The Shiny Black Plastic Fans Hated

by admin September 30, 2025

Good morning. Welcome to a new week. Will it be better than last week? I really hope so! Anyway, today’s Morning Checkpoint, Kotaku’s daily round-up of interesting news and stuff you might care about, features a new and less shiny PS5, Silent Hill f sales data, Borderlands 4 DLC news, a content creator retiring, and a cool Daft Punk video.

New PS5 Model Ditches All That Shiny Black Plastic

A new model of the PlayStation 5 has leaked online ahead of an official announcement from Sony, and while it’s not a massive update to the current iteration of the console, it does include one tweak that seems to be making a lot of people happy: The new PS5 doesn’t include shiny black plastic. As reported by Zuby_Tech, new photos and information about the refreshed PS5 show that it features matte black plastic, saving you from having to cover your PS5 in nasty fingerprints every time you dare to move or touch it.

Other changes found in this new, updated PS5 console include different-colored USB ports, a smaller SSD, and a new heatsink. The console is also overall a bit lighter now, likely thanks to more stamped metal parts inside. No word on when to expect this new console to hit shelves, but I’d bet it won’t be long, as we are getting close to the holiday season.

People really like Silent Hill f, Konami’s first original mainline entry in the long-running horror series in over a decade. So I’m not shocked to see it selling so well. According to Konami, Silent Hill f sold a million copies in around 24 hours. In a press release announcing the news, the publisher also confirmed that Silent Hill f was selling faster than last year’s Silent Hill 2 remake. This is good news for Silent Hill fans who have spent the past decade putting up with a lot of bad news, garbage, and disappointment. Hopefully, this new era of Silent Hill isn’t short-lived.

GOG Adds More Classic Games To Its Preservation Program

Classic PC gaming store Good Old Games, aka GOG, announced recently that over half a dozen more titles were being added to its ongoing preservation program. Launched in 2024, the GOG Preservation Program is the store’s long-term plan to keep certain classic PC games playable, updated, and accessible. It’s a great idea and one which, if GOG sticks to it, could be extremely helpful for games that no longer have official publisher or developer support.

Here’s the latest list of games added to the program, many of which are currently on sale to celebrate the news:

– Gothic 1
– Gothic 2
– Necronomicon: The Dawning of Darkness
– Mortal Kombat Trilogy
– Freespace 2
– XIII Century Gold Edition
– Stranglehold

Gearbox Reveals Borderlands 4‘s First DLC Character

Over the weekend during Tokyo Game Show, Gearbox and 2K Games revealed the first playable DLC character coming to Borderlands 4: C4SH, a gambling robot cowboy built around luck and chance. Fan account Borderlands 4 Bulletin shared more information about the new Vault Hunter on social media directly from the Gearbox TGS panel. The studio says that C4SH will have 3 action skills just like the other playable characters and that the character’s skills are “distinctly unpredictable, as they all involve an element of chance.”

C4SH will be available in Q1 2026 for all players on all platforms who own the Super Deluxe Edition of Borderlands 4, buy the Vault Hunter Pack DLC, or who purchase the game’s first Story Pack when it’s available.

Skyrim Grandma Shirley Curry Retiring (Again)

As reported by PC Gamer, Shirley Curry, better known online as the famous Skyrim Grandma, is retiring from content creation. The nearly 90-year-old gamer, who will appear in Elder Scrolls 6 when that finally launches, confirmed the news in a new VLOG uploaded to her YouTube channel. She explained that she’s just “bored” with playing Skyrim again and isn’t having a great experience on YouTube anymore, as many of the comments she got were just, according to her, younger kids shouting about how much they loved their video game grandma. She says she wanted more feedback and interesting conversations.

“That’s why I’m just going to stop uploading anything to do with Skyrim,” said Curry. “I’m tired, I’m not having fun anymore, probably because of all the little kids on there. I think that’s about all I have to say.”

Curry will keep making VLOGS and blogging, but her days with Skyrim are over. Probably. It was just a year ago that Curry actually announced similar plans to retire from Elder Scrolls content, but then came back and even made a video of herself playing the Oblivion Remaster. But based on how she sounds in this new VLOG, I get the feeling she really is done with Skyrim.

Amid major surprises, VALORANT fans name one matchup as VCT Champions Paris’ best so far

VALORANT Champions Paris has been a rollercoaster experience so far, with most matchups either defying expectations or ending in a close result. Despite all the unpredictability, fans think one series can be crowned as the tournament’s “best so far”—and we can’t agree more.

Some time after day one of playoffs ended, a Redditor posted a snapshot—first uploaded by G2 VALORANT’s handle on X—highlighting the nail-biting results in the three VALORANT maps played during the Paper Rex (PRX) vs. G2 Esports series. They proceeded to call it the best face-off in VCT Champions Paris so far, attracting several upvotes from the community.

From thrilling clutches and strategy wars to one-sided rounds and mind-blowing display of mechanical brilliance, the opening series of playoffs had everything a fan could ask for.

The first game of the series, played on Lotus, ended in a 13-11 after PRX managed to stop G2’s momentum in the second half, winning three back-to-back rounds to take the win. The second game on Corrode saw a lot of back-and-forth before ending up in overtime. In the end, however, G2’s resilience put a stop to PRX’s headstrong style at 15-13, preventing the latter from taking a 2-0 win. The third and final game was on Ascent, which ended up in a 13-11 in PRX’s favor, giving them the ultimate series win.

The matchup lived up to the hype, delivering close encounters, strategy diffs, and showcases of impressive headshots and outplays—everything you’d expect from a clash between the #1 seeds of Americas and APAC.

The clash fans needed. Photo by Adela Sznajder/Riot Games

While PRX vs. G2 has been hailed as the highlight matchup of VALORANT Champions Paris so far, fans also highlighted the grand finals of Masters Bangkok between T1 and G2 Esports as the season’s biggest thriller. That series ended in a 3-2 scoreline in T1’s favor after a number of seesaw games, two of which reached overtime.

Going forward in Champions Paris, there are plenty of exciting face-offs to anticipate, but I’m most excited about Paper Rex taking on Fnatic in the upper semis. No matter the outcome, the headline of this series will be how Fnatic’s former star coach, mini, is now fueling PRX’s success. Talk about betrayal stinging, am I right?

And I can’t help but think about a potential grand finals rematch between PRX and G2 in VALORANT Champions Paris—provided G2 manages to stay alive in the high stakes lower bracket. If an opening upper round clash between them can be this good, just think what can unfold on the most prestigious stage of the year.

Pokemon fans roast GameStop after it calls out Walmart over TCG scalpers

by admin September 28, 2025

GameStop’s attempt to criticize Walmart over Pokemon card scalpers has backfired, as fans quickly turned the spotlight on the retailer’s own trading card practices.

The official GameStop X account quote-retweeted a post showing someone hauling off a large number of Pokemon Mega Evolutions booster packs and tins. “Nothing says family fun like watching a scalper walk out with a cart full of booster packs while kids stare at bare shelves,” the company wrote. “This is why we have purchase limits. Walmart should do the same.”

Article continues after ad

While the jab at Walmart gained traction, the replies under GameStop’s post were filled with criticism. Fans accused the company of overcharging for cards, letting exclusive promos slip to resellers, and enforcing restrictive limits that still leave families empty-handed.

Fans call out GameStop “hypocrisy”

At least Walmart sells at MSRP, embarrassing.” Others referenced recent issues with Scarlet & Violet promo codes and accused employees of “backdooring” products meant for customers.

The backlash turned into a pile-on, with comments resurfacing frustrations about GameStop’s trade-in values and inconsistent supply of Pokemon products. As one viral reply put it: “lol GameStop tried to roast someone & the comments roasted them.”

The Mega Evolutions set released on September 26, 2025, introducing over 180 new cards and debuting the ultra-rare Mega Hyper Rare rarity. At the top of collectors’ chase lists are the Mega Hyper Rare versions of Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex, which are significantly scarcer than the Hyper Rares of past expansions. With their gilded finish, unique artwork, and extreme rarity, these cards are expected to command some of the highest prices in the set.

U.S. Silent Hill f fans slam pitiful Steelbook allocations as missing pre-order gifts pop up on pricey eBay auctions

by admin September 27, 2025

Silent Hill f fans who missed out on Steelbook pre-orders despite ordering early are slamming U.S. retailer GameStop and speaking out against opportunist scalpers.

Players were tempted to pre-order the physical edition of Silent Hill f ahead of time by the “free” addition of a striking Steelbook case for orders placed with Amazon in the UK, and GameStop in the U.S.

However, as orders began arriving across the States this week and fans stopped by stores to pick up their freebie, it became clear that GameStop did not have nearly enough Steelbook cases to satisfy demand.

Silent Hill f Review – An Occasionally Unsatisfactory Return To Form.Watch on YouTube

“Is anyone else having trouble trying to acquire their Silent Hill f steelbook?” asked one customer. “Preordered from GameStop months ago and went today just an hour after opening and they’ve run out of all four steel boxes they had in stock. All four. Called every GameStop in a 50 mile radius and NONE other store received ANY shipment of steel boxes at all.”

“Everyone is getting the shaft,” someone responded. “Stores that even got allocation were at like 10% or less compared to their pre-order number.”

“I went to a GameStop earlier today as they opened, and they only got one,” commented someone else. “And I was the second guy in line. Supposedly, they should get another shipment. But it’s really stupid that there is a shortage of Steelbooks, and on top of that, online preorders require you to go in store to pick up the Steelbook. I wish Amazon US or Best Buy had the Steelbook, ’cause at least they would ship it with the game. I guess I’ll check in and see if they ever get more in the upcoming weeks.”

Other players claimed GameStop employees confirmed to them that each store received only a handful of Steelbook cases irrespective of how many pre-orders the stores logged, with some saying their local store “didn’t even get a single Steelbook…”

“I work at GameStop. We got a total of nine Steelbooks… for 30+ preorders,” explained another commenter.

If this all sounds very familiar, that’s because it is. When Silent Hill 2 Remake pre-orders began shipping in the UK in October 2024, GAME customers similarly received their game without the steelbook sweetener they’d hoped to get when placing their orders, and it took several weeks for GAME to fulfil delayed shipments. This time around, however, Konami partnered with Amazon UK to distribute the Steelbook pre-order bonus, which seems to have been more successful this time around.

What’s particularly galling for some fans, however, is the number of Steelbook cases that have made it onto online auction sites like eBay. Despite being given away for free, the collectible case is being auctioned for anywhere from $30 to $205, both with and without the game bundled alongside it.

In a thread entitled “people ruin everything” with hundreds of upvotes, one fan wrote: “What [is] really disappointed me even more was going on eBay just to see what resellers were up charging for the cases, ruining it for other people by being greedy. I know [the] Silent Hill franchise ha[s] always been expensive, I’ve gotten my fair share of games over the years, but for people to sell a case for more than market value is sickening.”

With most retailers advertising the freebie as available “while stocks last”, however, there’s very little customers can do, as demonstrated by this email response from GameStop customer care, who told one player that “even with online pre-orders, the Steelbook must be claimed in-store” and “these items are extremely limited and available only while supplies last.”

We’ll reach out to GameStop and update as/when we hear back from the retailer.

Whilst slow to get going and a little cumbersome early on, I had a good time with it in Eurogamer’s Silent Hill f review, calling it “a return to form worth sticking with” and awarding it four out of five stars.

PlaqueBoyMax fans worried as streamer hospitalized for 10 days with mystery infection

by admin September 25, 2025

Popular Twitch streamer and music producer PlaqueBoyMax says he’s been stuck in the hospital for 10 days as doctors work to identify an infection that’s causing worrying symptoms.

PlaqueBoyMax is a former member of FaZe Clan, having left the group in August 2025 to pursue his own projects.

Boasting over 2 million followers on Twitch, Max is extremely popular for his interactions with fans and fellow streamers, as well as producing music with famous names in the rap industry like Wiz Khalifa and DDG.

However, he’s been relatively silent on social media over the last week and a half as he struggles with a mysterious illness that is leaving his doctors puzzled.

PlaqueBoyMax hospitalized with unknown illness

PlaqueBoyMax was first hospitalized on September 15, initially telling fans that he had a shoulder injury. During Kai Cenat’s Mafiathon 3 stream, Tylil opened up about the situation in a phone call, saying that Max had woken up with severe shoulder pain and even started throwing up on the way to the hospital.

According to Tylil, Max couldn’t move his neck or his right arm. Plaque began giving fans sporadic updates from the hospital over the next week, showing himself lying in bed and urging fans to be thankful for their health.

Ten days later, on September 25, Max finally gave viewers another update, revealing that he’s been suffering from some kind of infection.

“I got a super bad infection,” he explained in a video from his hospital room. “Doctors saying they’ve never seen an infection like this. …the infection was so bad, I couldn’t move my arm at all. It hurt like hell when I walked. I could barely walk.”

Thankfully, the streamer revealed that he’s started to regain some movement in his right arm, but still hasn’t been discharged from the hospital despite doctors telling him he might be able to leave five days prior.

“I hope I get out soon. I hope y’all are doing well. Without y’all and God, I am nothing. …thank you.”

Fans are sending their well-wishes as the streamer continues his recovery, hoping he returns in good health sooner rather than later.

Plaque isn’t the only FaZe-related streamer to send fans into a panic due to health concerns; in 2024, StableRonaldo mentioned that he’d been suffering from migraines and vision loss, asking viewers if he should go to the hospital for treatment.

Borderlands 4 Indefinitely Delayed On Switch 2 As Fans Get Refunds

by admin September 23, 2025

Borderlands 4 was supposed to kick off the Nintendo Switch 2’s first big fall season but it’s now been indefinitely delayed as Gearbox Entertainment works to deliver the “best possible experience” for fans on the new portable console. It’s a surprisingly last-minute move for a game that was supposed to ship in less than two weeks, on October 3. The pivot comes after weeks of heated debate over the loot shooter’s performance on other platforms.

“We need to share that the release of Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 is being delayed,” the studio wrote in an announcement on Tuesday evening. “We do not take this decision lightly, but are committed to ensuring we deliver the best possible experience to our fans, and the game needs additional development and polish time to do that.”

Greetings, Vault Hunters – We need to share that the release of Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 is being delayed. We do not take this decision lightly, but are committed to ensuring we deliver the best possible experience to our fans, and the game needs additional development…

— Borderlands (@Borderlands) September 23, 2025

The studio said it hopes to peg the new release date for Borderlands 4 on Switch 2 to the arrival of cross saves for all versions of the game, but didn’t provide a release window for that either. “We will update you all on the new release timing once we’ve fully adjusted our plans,” the announcement reads. In the meantime, all digital pre-orders on the eShop have been canceled in accordance with a Nintendo policy, and will be refunded starting September 26.

The sudden delay comes after lots of complaints about Borderlands 4‘s performance on PC as well as some concerns on other consoles, including an apparent memory leak that makes the game run worse if you play it continuously for long stretches of time without quitting out and relaunching. The game is capped at 30fps on Switch 2, and initial hands-on impressions with the game suggested it ran well enough, though experiences on Steam Deck have reportedly been subpar. Digital Foundry’s analysis of the game across various platforms has also been less than glowing.

Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford has been all over social media since the sci-fi sequel launched earlier this month, but hasn’t yet weighed in on the delay as of publishing time.
