Resident Evil Requiem looks like a return to form for the franchise

by admin June 7, 2025

Capcom revealed the next installment in the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil Requiem, on Friday at Summer Game Fest as the livestream’s closing announcement, following a swerve by the dev team earlier in the show.

Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom says, will take the franchise back to its origins: Raccoon City. The ninth mainline Resident Evil promises “deeply terrifying aspects of psychological horror with pulse-pounding action,” Capcom says, and “spine-chilling realism like never before, with complex character details like lifelike facial expressions, realistic skin textures, and even high-fidelity sweat droplets that are sure to keep players on the edge of their seats.”

The game follows Grace Ashcroft (related to Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak) as an FBI agent tasked to look into an incident at a hotel where her mother was previously murdered (although Alyssa is mentioned, there’s no telling if she’s Grace’s mom). In the game’s trailer, Grace’s boss says it’s time for her to confront her past before the scene cuts to her bound upside down in a dark room.

From there we see corridors familiar to the Raccoon City mansion before getting ominous words from a shadowy figure in a chair insisting Grace is special, a “chosen one.” We also see the remnants of Raccoon City with the bomb mark that took it out and a destroyed Raccoon City police department. Needless to say, although the franchise will continue its long-running story, this title looks to be very much a return to form for RE’s survival horror origins.

Survival horror fans have been anticipating news on the next Resident Evil for a while now. The most recent new mainline Resident Evil entry was 2021’s Resident Evil Village, a direct sequel to 2017’s Resident Evil 7 biohazard. Shifting further into action, Village emphasized combat against relentless waves of undead creatures. Since then, Capcom has released its ambitious remake of Resident Evil 4.

Similar to the rumor mill reports, Requiem looks to be a reimagining of the series with an evolution of concepts first introduced in the original Resident Evil, with more focus on horror over action. Rumors also suggest it will serve as both a conclusion to current story arcs and a fresh starting point for the franchise’s future, and the teaser certainly enforces this notion.

Resident Evil Requiem is slated for a Feb. 27, 2026 release, with more info to be revealed the closer we get to the launch date.

Resident Evil Requiem Is Arriving February 2026

by admin June 7, 2025

Update: Capcom faked out the audience at Summer Game Fest by saying it wouldn’t be revealing the next Resident Evil early in the show, only to have a full trailer for the game as the “one last thing.”

The game is called Resident Evil 9: Requiem (the ‘q’ is the cute stand-in for the ‘9’). The trailer follows a character named Grace Ashcroft, who is potentially related to Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil’s Outbreak and Outbreak File #2. Grace works for the FBI and is tasked with investigating the hotel where her mother was murdered. The trailer shows all kinds of creepy happenings and monsters as part of the investigation.

Resident Evil Requiem arrives surprisingly soon with a release date of February 27, 2026.

Original story:

Resident Evil Village’s English voice actor for Lady Dimitrescu, Maggie Robertson, and Capcom’s Jun Takeuchi made an appearance on the Summer Game Fest stage to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Resident Evil. Robertson sang happy birthday while iconography from Resident Evil appeared on screen and Takeuchi then appeared in a pre-recorded video to thank fans for their patience and said information about the next Resident Evil will appear soon. “Just a blink of an eye more and it will be ready,” Takeuchi said.

Based on Capcom’s pattern of releasing a new Resident Evil and then a remake, it’s safe to assume the next new Resident Evil game we see will be Resident Evil 9 (or whatever it ends up being called), but we will apparently have to wait a little longer.

Resident Evil 9 officially unveiled, coming February

by admin June 7, 2025

Capcom has lifted the lid on Resident Evil 9, the next entry in its long-standing horror series. I say Resident Evil 9. Its full name is in fact Resident Evil Requiem, which gives it all a greater sense of gravitas.

Today’s news all arrived with a new trailer, which you can check out below. Admittedly, it doesn’t give us a huge amount of information right now, we can glean some things. We meet Grace Ashcroft, for example, and this may well be the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from previous Resi entries.

Also, in the trailer we see that Racoon City was destroyed in some form of sterilisation event, and it looks like we will be exploring the city in ruins. This ties in with Alyssa Ashcroft’s story in Resident Evil Outbreak, which takes place around the time of Resident Evil 3 when the city was vapourised, so Grace being her daughter seems very likely.

As for when Resi 9 is releasing, that’ll be 27th February next year, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Steam.

Resident Evil Requiem – Reveal Trailer. Watch on YouTube

“Requiem for the dead. Nightmare for the living,” reads the official blurb on the new Resident Evil 9 trailer. “Resident Evil Requiem is the highly anticipated ninth title in the mainline Resident Evil series. Prepare to escape death in a heart-stopping experience that will chill you to your core.”

So, yes, this next entry in the Resident Evil series is in bound, and will be playable at Gamescom this summer.

Capcom has said Requiem will act as a “new era of surival horror”, with the studio saying that “technological advancements combined with the development team’s depth of experience combine in a story with rich characters and gameplay that’s more immersive than ever before”. Ooh!

Capcom actually offered us a sneaky Resident Evil 9 tease earlier this year, when it released a video to celebrate the success of its Resident Evil 4 Remake. Eagle-eyed fans noticed a sign post at the end of the video appeared to show IX when they cocked thier heads to the side slightly, which are of course the Roman numerals for the number nine. Very good Capcom, very good.

Resident Evil 9 Trolls Everyone, Actually Announced At SGF 2025

by admin June 7, 2025

Resident Evil 9‘s executive producer, Jun Takeuchi, announced today at Summer Game Fest that he was not ready to announce anything about the next main entry in the series. Sorry. See you later! (Update: 7:00 EST PM: Actually, Capcom tricked us and announced Resident Evil 9: Requiem.)

The Best Resident Evil Goes VR And More New Releases | The Week In Games

Never mind, folks. Capcom and Takeuchi played a fast one on us and released the trailer for Resident Evil 9 just minutes after telling everyone otherwise. The game is out on February 27, 2026, and is coming to PS5, Xbox, and PC.

Well, I guess he did say we’d get more info in “a blink of an eye.” Here’s the trailer:

In the surprise trailer, we see a woman who is working for the FBI and looking into some strange murders. Then some wild stuff happens, and suddenly we are transported to what appears to be the old Raccoon City police station, but it looks post-apocalyptic, almost. Not sure what’s going on here, but I’m excited for fans to dig in and find all the details.

And here’s how Capcom describes the game from its official website:

Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth title in the mainline Resident Evil series.

Prepare to escape death in a heart-stopping experience that will chill you to your core. A new era of survival horror begins in 2026. Technological advancements combined with the development team’s depth of experience combine in a story with rich characters and gameplay that’s more immersive than ever before.

Original story continues below:

Fans expected a big Resident Evil 9 reveal during the event today as leakers continued to hint that it was going to happen. And yet, it didn’t happen. At one point, the actress who voices Lady D in Resident Evil Village appeared, but that was just to promote a Capcom sale on Steam. Then she appeared again, celebrating the birthday of the series and throwing to Takeuchi, who didn’t introduce a trailer, but instead asked fans to wait a bit longer.

“Thanks to all of you, Resident Evil is about to celebrate its 30th anniversary this coming March,” said Takeuchi. “Now, about the latest Resident Evil game you’ve all been waiting for, bear with us a little longer. Just a blink of an eye more, and it’ll be ready.”

Rumors have swirled about a new Resident Evil entry following the release of Resident Evil Village in 2021. Though Capcom did hint at Village officially being the eighth entry via its logo, which contained a stylized VIII, the game didn’t technically include an 8 in the title, leading some to believe it was a spin-off of Resident Evil 7. And with today’s lack of a name or anything else, we will still have to wait and see if Capcom counts Village as a full-fledged eighth entry in the franchise or if the next game will be named Resident Evil 8. It all seems needlessly confusing, but that’s to be expected with this series.

Resident Evil 9, Stranger Than Heaven, and more of the key reveals from Summer Game Fest 2025

by admin June 7, 2025

Geoff Keighley’s annual Summer Game Fest showcase had a few big moments, including a major showing from Capcom, some sharp-looking indie games from well-known developers, and a creative tie-in between Hitman and James Bond by IO Interactive.

Find a selection of 10 key SGF 2025 highlights below, including all-new reveals and several worthwhile updates on already-announced games.

End of Abyss

Created by Section 9 Interactive, a Malmö-based studio of developers who worked on the Little Nightmares games, and published by Epic Games itself, this was the horror highlight of SGF. In End of Abyss, a combat technician explores a facility that’s riddled with fleshy monsters, in what looks a little like a twin-stick survival horror shooter.

New pathways will emerge in the game as players become stronger, suggesting something of a Metroidvania structure. This one doesn’t have a specific release date yet beyond 2026, but it’s coming to Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.

Lego Voyagers

This two-player Lego game from the developers of Lego Builders Journey left an impression with a simple but perfect pitch: what if you played as a single Lego brick, and the entire game was built around that notion?

Anyone still craving high-value co-op experiences for couch play after finishing this year’s wonderful Split Fiction should keep this beautiful-looking game on their radar. It’s coming to PC and consoles, including the original Nintendo Switch, and will be playable either locally or online (with only one purchase necessary for the latter).

Mina the Hollower

Mina the Hollower, the long-awaited new game from Shovel Knight developer Yacht Club Games, got a release date of October 31, 2025 during SGF. This trailer will set off fireworks for anyone familiar with its inspirations: Link’s Awakening and the other Game Boy Color Zelda games, for example, as well as the side-scrolling adventures of the Castlevania series.

Marvel’s Deadpool VR

Rather a lot of licensed games made the cut in this Summer Games Fest (who could’ve predicted that this year’s livestream would offer viewers a real-time strategy game tie-in to Game of Thrones, a TV show that ended on a contentious note in 2019?). Meta’s big reveal at SGF was Deadpool VR, another superhero-themed exclusive coming to Quest 3, following last year’s killer app Batman: Arkham Shadow.

This game stars Neil Patrick Harris as Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth, and comes from ‘Splosion Man developer Twisted Pixel. As ever, Deadpool’s delivered-via-sledgehammer meta humour is something of an acquired taste, yet the recent history of pop culture would suggest it’s never been more popular.

Deadpool VR’s first-person combat and storytelling look authentic to the character, which is either a dream come true or a living nightmare, depending on who you ask. It launches exclusively on Quest 3 and 3S in late 2025.

Ill and Mundfish’s push into publishing

Mundfish, the latest developer to move into publishing, had a big presence in this year’s SGF livestream. That included a colourful-if-muddled trailer for Atomic Heart 2, a follow-up to its 2023 hit FPS.

But perhaps more interesting was the horror-themed FPS Ill, the debut game from studio Team Clout. What could be more frightening than being chased by dozens of decaying bald men, and occasionally, some fetid-looking evil giant babies? This game will launch on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, but it doesn’t have a release date yet.

Scott Pilgrim EX

Considering the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels ended 15 years ago, the longevity of a story about a down-on-his-luck 20-something fighting all his new partner’s exes in sequence continues to amaze. This spiritual sequel to 2010’s acclaimed Ubisoft tie-in Scott Pilgrim Vs The World: The Game sees Scott and six of his pals teaming up to fight three different warring gangs who have taken over Toronto.

Developer Tribute Games (creators of the brilliant Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge) comprises staff who worked on that prior Ubisoft title. Pleasingly for fans, too, series creator Bryan Lee O’Malley is behind the story on this project. With four-player co-op part of the mix, Scott Pilgrim EX launches in 2026.

Casino Royale’s Le Chiffre comes to Hitman: World of Assassination

With IO Interactive’s James Bond game First Light not arriving until 2026, this reveal was a real treat for fans of 007, and a fun stopgap. Actor Mads Mikkelsen joined IO’s Hakan Abrak on-stage in announcing that his Casino Royale villain Le Chiffre has been added to Hitman: World of Assassination’s Paris level as a limited-time Elusive Target. Players have until July 6 to take him out.

Blighted

Guacamelee studio Drinkbox is behind this visually stylish action RPG, which looks like it’ll scratch the itch of anyone who got deep into Hades but wants something with a fresh twist (or co-op) to play. The setting is described as a ‘psychedelic western nightmare’ by the developers, and a ‘blighted’ mechanic alters the difficulty of the game dynamically depending on how afflicted the player is. It’s coming soon to Steam.

Stranger Than Heaven

First unveiled last year as Project Century, this deeper look at the next project by Like A Dragon developer RGG Studio showed off the game’s 1943 (seemingly) period Japanese setting, as well as its combat and other gameplay elements like moral choices (of the Xbox 360 era ‘spare/kill’ variety).

Considering the last trailer was set in 1915, it would appear to suggest the game takes place across multiple decades. It’s exciting to see this studio trying something a little different, even if some of the parts are superficially similar.

Resident Evil Requiem

The reveal of the ninth mainline Resident Evil game closed the livestream with a bang. Requiem is slightly hard to grasp from this first trailer, perhaps by design: the protagonist is an agent called Grace Ashcroft, and we see several glimpses of the ruins of Raccoon City amid the horrors in this teaser.

No doubt Capcom will gradually put the pieces together in the run-up to its February 27, 2026 release date on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. It firmly looks like a stylistic follow-up to the first-person hits Resident Evil 7 and Village. On-stage, it was promised the game will feature “high-stakes cinematic action” as well as survival horror.

Resident Evil Requiem officially announced and it’s launching in February 2026

by admin June 7, 2025

  • Resident Evil Requiem has officially been announced
  • The ninth entry launches on February 27, 2026, for PC and console
  • Requiem‘s protagonist is FBI agent Grace Ashcroft, who could be related to Resident Evil Outbreak‘s Alyssa Ashcroft

It’s official, Resident Evil Requiem is set to launch on February 27, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.

The next Resident Evil game was the final announcement of Summer Game Fest 2025 and was unveiled with a chilling cinematic trailer showing off the game’s protagonist, FBI technical analyst Grace Ashcroft, and a nuked Racoon City.

Capcom is calling the ninth entry “a new era of survival horror,” and host Geoff Keighly describes it as a “bold shift for the franchise both in tone and gameplay,” and that players should expect “high-stakes cinematic action”.

Bizarrely, Jun Takeuchi, Resident Evil executive producer, made a brief appearance earlier in the broadcast to tease the game, but stated that Capcom wasn’t ready to reveal it.

From the trailer, it seems that Resident Evil Requiem will follow Grace as she investigates a serial killer who has a connection to her deceased mother.

It’s unclear if former Resident Evil characters, like Leon and Jill, will make an appearance, but it appears that Grace Ashcroft is related to Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak and Outbreak File #2.

Resident Evil 9 is real, arriving next year, and it’s looking like it’ll be amping up the horror once more

by admin June 7, 2025

The impending announcement of Resident Evil 9 has been sort of hovering around for what felt like months. Insiders have been claiming for a while that we were about to see it at this or that show, but it somehow never materialised – and it looks like today’s the day that’s finally changed.

During today’s Summer Game Fest kick-off showcase, Capcom delivered a brief message about the upcoming sequel in the legendary horror series. In a short video, Jun Takeuchi thanked fans for their support of the Resident Evil series and stated that there’ll be more news soon, when the developer is ready. This lead most to believe that we wouldn’t be seeing Resident Evil 9 today, but as the show closed, everyone was surprised.

A horrifying brief trailer, Resident Evil 9 is being dubbed Resident Evil Requiem, and looks to be inviting players into a much scarier experience – akin to Resident Evil Biohazard – this time around. The better news? It’ll be playable as of February 27, 2026.

The game has actually been teased by Capcom in recent videos from the publisher, such as the one published to celebrate Resident Evil 4 selling 10 million copies. It was so subtle, however, you may not have spotted it.

Resident Evil 9 is being said to represent a big step forward for the series, though maybe not quite to the degree earlier reports have made it out to be; time will only tell. There’s obviously plenty we still do not know, including how much of the final game will resemble those leaks. Either way, Capcom have been doing this a while now, and it’ll no doubt be the survival horror-action romp all Resi fans have been waiting for.

As it’s often the case, however, more will certainly be revealed between now Resident Evil 9’s launch next year. The game is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Bring Her Back themed “evil black marketplace” listing Talk to Me’s cursed hand goes viral

by admin June 6, 2025

If you’re a fan of Danny and Michael Philippou’s horror movies, you’re in luck. A mysterious “black marketplace” with links to Bring Her Back and Talk to Me has emerged online, and the creepiness is off the scale.

While it’s been almost two years since supernatural terror Talk to Me hit the big screen, follow-up movie Bring Her Back has been out for a mere few weeks. The new film follows a brother and sister who witness a terrifying ritual at the secluded home of their new foster mother.

While the movie has been well-received by critics and fans alike, things have started to get creepy in real life. Almost overnight, an alleged black marketplace appeared online on June 6, 2025, claiming to be buying and selling things seen in the movies – including that cursed hand.

But it doesn’t stop there. The website boasts new footage, new “products” (if you can even call them that), and new warning that if you choose to engage, things aren’t going to be pretty.

“Evil black marketplace” with Bring Her Back and Talk to Me links emerges

If you decide to visit BlackAngelTapes.net, on your own head be it. We’ve already broken their “no shares” rule just by telling you about it, but the deeper you get, the more unhinged the site becomes.

BlackAngelTapes

Before you enter, you’ll be met with a warning. “THIS WEBSITE IS HEAVILY MONITORED BY THOSE WHO GLOW. IF YOU COMPROMISE THE MARKETPLACE YOU WILL BE VISITED. NO SCREENSHOTS. NO SHARES. NO LEAKS. EXPOSE AT OWN RISK. CAUTION ADVISED,” it reads.

Article continues after ad

If you’re brave enough to click through, you’ll be met with 13 (of course) listings of “cursed” or “evil” items, ranging from vials of blood to vintage malware and taped serial killer confessions. There are also multiple tapes you can watch, including a sleeping girl allegedly being possessed by a demon and a resurrection of a zombified corpse.

A24

Among it all, you’ll find our familiar cursed hand. The listing reads, “I bought a tape off here a few months ago – these scene kids use this embalmed hand for their band’s film clip – also to try and summon Kurt and GG Allin. It backfires and one of them bites off his own tongue lol – (will sell digital rip of it DM me).”

“I want the hand – if anyone has it, just say the amount you want. Edit – Trolls DMing me get f**ked. I can tell if you’re trying to sell me some fake bulls**t.”

While the “void” lists supposed seller comments underneath each item, you can actually make an offer for any of the 13 listings on the site. What happens after… well, that’s not something I’m willing to risk my personal finances for.

Article continues after ad

There’s a genuine – and incredibly detailed – FAQ section, ranging from learning more about Satanism to how to keep possessed items safely in the home. Eagle-eyed fans will notice “Our sister site [thisisnotacult.xyz] has been taken over by something. Do NOT visit site. Do NOT contact them.”

It’s the classic call to click what you shouldn’t, and you’ll be met with grainy CCTV camera footage that will make your skin crawl. As of writing, neither of the Philippous have confirmed their involvement or if the site is actual marketing for Bring Her Back.

MindsEye is a GTA/Cyberpunk-ish game about shooting AI robots, and its co-ceo claims there’s “concerted effort” involving evil bots to make people think it’s rubbish

by admin May 29, 2025

Yesterday, Build A Rocket Boy – the studio helmed by Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies – showed off some gameplay from the GTA-ish, Cyberpunk-ish, FarCry map editor-ish action thriller MindsEye, which is set to let you shoot a bunch of evil AI robots. Now, BARB’s co-ceo has claimed that there’s a real life “concerted effort to trash the game and the studio” going on, involving evil bots.

Yep, he seemingly just suggested these things were the case via some responses to players on the game’s Discord server, as you’d expect an exec to casually do.

Mark Gerhard, the co-ceo in question, goes by the handle MMG in the server, and was asked during a bit of back and forth about the game with fans: “Do you think that all the people who reacted negatively were financed by someone?” He responded: “100%”

Naturally, folks were a bit taken aback by an exec at a studio seemingly suggesting negative reception for a game had been paid for in some fashion, but Gerhard went on to add: “doesn’t take much to guess who”. A user in the server was quick to comment: “a co-CEO for a studio implying another studio is paying previewers to talk negatively about your game is an absolutely wild comment to make in a public environment in any situation”, to which the exec replied: “Not wild when it’s true…..”

Fans and content creators in the server who’d expressed criticism of MindsEye or Build A Rocket Boy then started to question whether Gerhard might be talking about them, leading the co-ceo to respond to such questions being asked about a user with the handle Cyber Boi.

“Folks I never said Cyber Boi was being paid by anyone,” Gerhard wrote, “I just said that there is a concerted effort by some people that don’t want to see Leslie or Build A Rocket Boy to be successful that are making a concerted effort to trash the game and the studio. Its pretty easy to see the bots and the repeated replies to any content that we put out.”

GTA YouTuber GameRoll then asked him directly: “So just to clarify – you believe that individuals, be it content creators or otherwise, have been paid off to criticise Mindseye?” “No I never said that,” Gerhard responded, “I do KNOW that there are bot farms posting negative comments and dislikes.”

VG247 has reached out to Build A Rocket Boy and MindsEye publisher IO Interactive for comment.

Are you keen to give MindsEye a go when it arrives on June 10? Let us know below!
