Samsung T7 Shield Portable SSD Hits Clearance-Level Pricing Following New Launch Event

by admin September 6, 2025

You can never have too much storage space. If you’re someone who works with huge files such as a photographer or video editor, you don’t have to be told twice. When a good external drive goes on sale, it’s hard to pass it up. Well, that’s exactly what this is. The Samsung T7 Shield is available at Amazon with three different storage capacities — all off which are discounted by as much as $125. Right now, the 1TB model is down 19% from $135 to just $110, the 2TB model is down 35% from $230 to $150, and the 4TB model is down from $405 to $280.

Creators were front of mind when Samsung developed this external solid state drive. It doesn’t matter if you are a photographer in need to backing up your pictures, a video editor managing a ton of projects and footage, or anyone else dealing with big files all day long — the T7 Shield can keep up with you. This SSD has fast read and write speeds. You’re getting up to 1,050 MB/s read speeds and up to 1,000 MB/s write speeds. That clocks in two times faster than the T5 from Samsung. It also happens to be nearly 10 times faster than an HDD would be. This means you’ll be able to move files between your work station and external drive quickly and easily.

See at Amazon

For the videographers out there, the Samsung T7 Shield is an especially useful tool for your toolkit. This model lets you record in 4K at 60fps directly onto the drive, using a camera, smartphone, or tablet. It’s even compatible with the iPhone 15 Pro. No need to anxiously delete stuff from your camera roll before you can get the shot.

You have a choice of three different colors with the T7 Shield—pick between either black, beige, or blue. What I love about this is if you need to get multiple, just grab them in different colors. This way at a glance, you’ll quickly be able to remember which one is for what.

Ruggedly Reliable

As the name states, this is the Shield model of Samsung’s T7 SSD. It’s designed with a strong, rubberized exterior wrapped around a solid aluminum body. It’s got an IP65 rating, making it both water and dust resistant and it can even withstand a fall of 9.8 feet. Your data is well protected.

Right now, Amazon has the 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB models of the Samsung T7 Shield on sale for as much as 35% off. Grab one before they go back up.

Apple’s iPhone 17 Event Is Happening Sept. 9. How to Watch

by admin September 2, 2025

Apple’s annual fall iPhone launch event is just around the corner. Last week, the company sent out invites for its fall keynote, which is slated for Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. PT. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 lineup, which could include a slimmer version of the phone, as well as the Apple Watch Series 11 and the AirPods Pro 3.

The invite shows the title “Awe dropping,” with a glowing Apple logo that seems to reference Siri’s colorful glow. There’s also an interactive element when you view the invite on Apple.com. With a finger (phone or tablet) or a mouse/trackpad pointer (computer), you can move across the logo and watch the colors go from a cool blue to a vivid orange, possibly evoking the Liquid Glass design element in iOS 26, which exhibits light-bending qualities across apps and functions. You can read more theories about what the fall event invite might signify.

The keynote will be held at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. CNET will be covering the announcements live, so be sure to follow along.

How to watch Apple’s iPhone 17 reveal

Technically, Apple has yet to confirm the iPhone 17, but the company’s fall event is where it typically unveils its latest handsets.

You can tune into the iPhone 17 event live by watching the official livestream on the Apple website or via the livestream on Apple’s YouTube channel. Those streams are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET on Sept. 9, 2025. CNET’s reporters will also be on the ground and bringing you all the updates.

What might Apple be cooking up?

Rumors for the upcoming slate of iPhones have been plentiful. Stealing the spotlight is the supposed iPhone 17 Air, which could follow in the footsteps of Samsung’s sleek Galaxy S25 Edge and have a slim profile and lightweight design. The Pro model could get a scratch-resistant antireflective display and an 8x telephoto lens, and the Pro Max could pack a bigger battery. The baseline iPhone 17 could also boast a higher refresh rate. It’s possible that all the phones may include an Apple-developed 5G modem called the C1 chip, which debuted on the iPhone 16E, as well as in-house Wi-Fi chips.

We also expect to learn more about the public rollout of iOS 26 later this fall. The new operating system features a Liquid Glass interface that brings a more transparent, lens-like look to the iPhone and other Apple devices. The Camera app also gets a more minimalistic design, Messages lets you create polls in group chats and a new screening tool can better detect spam texts. You can check out all the features coming to iOS 26.

Watch this: Apple Will Reveal the iPhone 17 Soon. Here’s What We Want

05:23

Will there be a Siri overhaul?

What we might not hear as much about is the updated version of Siri that Apple unveiled at its Worldwide Developers Conference last year. The smarter version of the AI assistant has faced repeated delays and may not arrive until next year or even later. But Apple could discuss other Apple Intelligence updates and features arriving on its new devices.

CNET’s reporters will be on the ground on Sept. 9, bringing you all the latest updates and impressions of whatever Apple has in store.

Ripple Swell 2025 Is Almost Here: Here’s What To Expect From The Event

by admin August 29, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

Ripple Swell 2025 is fast approaching, even as members of the XRP community look forward to the bullish announcements that could come at the conference. The crypto firm also unveiled featured speakers at the event, including its executives Brad Garlinghouse and Chris Larsen.

Details About The Ripple Swell 2025

Ripple has announced that the Swell event will take place in New York from November 4 to 5. Featured speakers include Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, Co-founder Chris Larsen, President Monica Long, Nasdaq’s Chair Adena Friedman, and renowned chef José Andrés. Executives from BlackRock, Fidelity, Bitwise, Citi, CME Group, and Franklin Templeton are also set to speak at the event.

The Ripple Swell event will cover several topics that touch on the firm’s customers, team members, and industry thought leaders, as well as how financial institutions and businesses are leveraging cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. These topics will include tokenization, payments, regional regulatory process, and crypto financial services.

These are all topics that Ripple, as a firm, is conversant with, given its operations. The company has secured several partnerships this year to promote tokenization on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), including one with Ondo Finance to launch its tokenized treasuries on the network. Meanwhile, Ripple is known for its payment service, which is why the discussion around payments could be very insightful.

It is worth noting that the crypto firm is expected to finalize its deal to acquire the stablecoin platform Rail around the time of the Swell event. As such, this could be one of the major talking points during the event. Ripple earlier highlighted why the Rail acquisition was strategic, as it would enable the company to offer virtual accounts and automated back-office infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Ripple has had its fair share of dealing with regulators, particularly in light of the XRP lawsuit. As such, the regulatory topic at the Swell event is expected to garner significant attention, as the company’s executives discuss how they have navigated the regulatory landscape. Notably, the company’s Chief Legal Officer (CLO), Stuart Alderoty, is also one of the featured speakers.

XRP Community Reacts To Latest Swell Announcement

In an X post, Ripple revealed that Chris Larsen and José Andrés will be the Keynote speakers at the event. XRP community members such as BankXRP shared their delight at the fact that Larsen will be speaking at the event. BankXRP noted that it has been a while since the Ripple co-founder has made an appearance.

On the other hand, community members have questioned why Chef Andrés is speaking at the event and as a keynote speaker. Ripple didn’t reveal what the renowned chef will be speaking on. However, it could relate to the adoption of cryptocurrency in businesses or his humanitarian work, which is a significant development for the firm, considering its philanthropic efforts.

At the time of writing, the XRP price is trading at around $2.90, down over 3% in the last 24 hours, according to data from CoinMarketCap.

HK Official Avoids Crypto Event to Steer Clear of Eric Trump

by admin August 28, 2025

Two Hong Kong officials have withdrawn from a major Bitcoin Asia 2025 conference in the city after being advised not to attend due to Eric Trump, the son of U.S. President Donald Trump, being a speaker.

Eric Yip, Director at the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), and lawmaker Johnny Ng were originally listed as speakers for Bitcoin Asia 2025, scheduled for August 28–29. But their names were later removed from the event’s website. Ng told the Post that he pulled out because of “family issues” that clash with the conference, while the SFC said Yip won’t attend because of a business trip.

A report from SCMP suggests they were asked to avoid the event due to Trump’s participation. Legislator Johnny Ng Kit-chong, who is also a tech entrepreneur, was also taken off the list.

The withdrawals happened at a time when tensions between the U.S. and China are rising over trade, technology, and other disputes. Hong Kong is being caught in the middle, facing new tariffs that it didn’t have to deal with during Trump’s first term. This shows political unrest may make it more difficult for Hong Kong to emerge as Asia’s leading center for cryptocurrency.

Eric Trump at Bitcoin Asia Conference

Despite the withdrawals, Eric Trump remains a featured speaker at the conference. He is expected to headline sessions such as “All in on Bitcoin” and “Bitcoin Takes Over the World.” The event’s website also described that he is “one of the most vocal advocates of his father and the Make America Great Again movement.”

Eric is a Co-Founder of the mining company American Bitcoin and is also connected to World Liberty Financial, a digital asset project backed by his family.

His presence at the conference further emphasizes how the U.S. is trying to strengthen its role in crypto and present itself as the “crypto capital of the world” while expanding its global influence through Bitcoin.

Hong Kong is pushing ahead with its plan to become Asia’s crypto hub. In August, the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) introduced new rules to protect users’ digital assets on licensed virtual asset trading platforms. Also, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) introduced new stablecoin licensing rules on July 29, 2025.

Here’s When You Can Skip Work for the iPhone 17 Launch Event

by admin August 26, 2025

The iPhone 17 is coming. The iPhone 17 is coming! Well, technically, four iPhone 17 devices are reportedly coming on Tuesday, Sept. 9. That’s when Apple will announce a family of new devices, including the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, and iPhone 17—phones that have been leaking out for the better part of the last year.

Apple sent the following invite to Gizmodo:

iPhone 17 event confirmed for Sept. 9. See ya there! pic.twitter.com/VTJOjYfZYE

— Ray Wong (@raywongy) August 26, 2025

The invite reads “Awe dropping.” Is Apple teasing the orange iPhone 17 Pro? And a maybe a new blue color?

Expected Product Announcements

Apple’s annual fall event, which will once again be held at Apple Park in Cupertino, CA, will also be where the company is expected to announce new Apple Watches (Series 11 and Ultra 3), new AirPods (Pro 3?), and a slew of new features for all of the new devices. If it’s like past years, Tim Cook and pals should also give us release dates for when we can officially install the non-beta releases for Liquid Glass. That includes iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26 Tahoe, watchOS 26, and tvOS 26.

There’s gonna be a truckload of Apple announcements on Sept. 9. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are rumored to get even thicker with the biggest camera bump (housing a new 48-megapixel telephoto camera) that Apple has ever put into an iPhone. We may also see a new orange color for the iPhone 17 Pros. The iPhone 16 Plus will almost certainly die this year, and its replacement will likely be the “iPhone 17 Air,” a new, super-thin glass slab with a single camera and possibly reduced battery life due to its skinny frame.

On the accessories and wearables front, we’re anticipating modest updates to the Apple Watch Series 10, maybe a bigger screen (but not a bigger case) for the Apple Watch Ultra 3, and we could see live translations rolled out to AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 with or without a new AirPods Pro 3 announcement.

Gizmodo Live Blog

The leaks have been steady, and many of them have come from reputable sources with solid track records. But you know what they say, nothing is official until it comes straight from the horse’s mouth. So clear your calendar and maybe sell a kidney now (please don’t do that!) cause Apple’s fall gadget bonanza is only a few weeks away.

The only thing for certain that you can count on happening on Sept. 9 is a live blog. Just like we did with last week’s “Made by Google” event for Pixel 10, Samsung’s Unpacked for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, and Apple’s WWDC and Google’s I/O developer conferences this past summer, we’ll be live-blogging the Apple Event.

Apple will be streaming its event on its website at Apple.com and YouTube here, but I promise Gizmodo’s live blog will be more entertaining. It’s also the only place where I’ll reveal the breakfast spread that Apple’s gonna serve to the media. That’s important stuff!

Don’t Expect New AirPods Max 2 at Apple’s iPhone 17 Event, Report Says

by admin August 26, 2025

Some of us have been waiting for Apple to announce a new second-gen version of the AirPods Max, its high-end over-ear noise-canceling headphones that were released in December 2020. They were refreshed last year with USB-C connectivity, some new color options and USB-C audio in April of this year. But if a recent report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who’s usually a reliable Apple whisperer, proves accurate, we won’t be seeing the AirPods Max 2 at Apple’s iPhone 17 Event, which is likely to take place in early September based on previous iPhone events.

Read more: Everything We Expect to Be Announced at Apple’s iPhone 17 September Event

Gurman says what I’ve suspected for while: The AirPods Max are “too popular for Apple to stop selling them, and not popular enough for the company to invest a ton of time and money into creating a new version.” MacRumors posted an article Monday that summarizes Gurman’s comments in his latest Power On newsletter, which is behind a paywall.

Citing industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a pretty good track record with Apple predictions, with a 72.5% accuracy rating over 142 rumors posts, a lighter version of the AirPods Max may only enter mass production in 2027 and that “Apple’s audio team is more focused on annual AirPods updates and supporting audio components across other products.”

While we probably won’t see a new version of the AirPods Max this year, many folks are predicting we will see the AirPods Pro 3 at Apple’s iPhone 17 Event this fall. As I talk about in my full roundup of everything we know about the AirPods Pro 3, there’s been a lot of chatter about the AirPods 3 getting Apple’s next-gen audio processor, the H3, which would help power new features and help improve not only sound quality but noise-canceling and voice-calling performance along with Apple’s Hearing Aid feature and a rumored new translation feature.

Read more: Everything We Know About the AirPods Pro 3 Coming Soon

The AIrPods Max are only equipped with Apple’s H1 chip, so it doesn’t support all the features found in the AirPods Pro 2, which use Apple’s H2 chip. These features include Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness and Apple’s Hearing Aid and Hearing Protection features. While the AirPods Max remain excellent noise-canceling headphones and have been a fixture on CNET’s best noise-canceling headphones list since their release, it’s a shame Apple’s most expensive headphones don’t have its latest AirPods tech. But we’ll hopefully know a lot more about the future of its AirPods line in just a few weeks, so stay tuned.

Overwatch 2 is getting a Persona 5 crossover event alongside brand new hero

by admin August 23, 2025

Overwatch 2’s eighteenth season launches next week and is bringing a Persona 5 crossover alongside a brand new hero.

The trailer for Season 18 ends with a tease of Joker from Atlus’ beloved JRPG, who will likely appear as a skin for an existing hero. No further details are known at present, but hopefully more character skins and references will make their way into Blizzard’s shooter.

The new hero joining this season is Wuyang, a Chinese “aquatic prodigy” who fights with a Xuanwu Staff and various water abilities as a support character.

Season 18: Stadium Quick Play Official Trailer | Overwatch 2Watch on YouTube

Elsewhere, the biggest additions in Season 18 include:

  • Stadium Quick Play for shorter match times, along with Winston, Brigitte and Pharah joining Stadium at season launch (and Tracer mid-season)
  • A new stadium mode called Payload Race
  • A PvP refresh and perks update, with 50 new hero-specific perks, rebalanced options for certain heroes, and a full rank reset
  • Two new Mythics: one is a character skin offering four tiers of visual upgrades, the other is a weapon skin with flaming effects
  • A brand new battle pass full of cosmetics to unlock

More details can be found on the Overwatch 2 blog.

Season 18 of Overwatch 2 launches on 26th August.

This is a news-in-brief story. This is part of our vision to bring you all the big news as part of a daily live report.

Genshin Impact’s IRL event at gamescom teases Nod-Krai, Version 6.0, and yet another handsome anime man you’d better start saving your Primogems for

by admin August 21, 2025

Genshin Impact’s big annual update is not far off. Thanks to this year’s gamescom, we’ve got our first look at one of the new characters joining the game’s roster with the upcoming expansion: Flins, the latest in Genshin’s long line of eligible-and-they-know-it husbandos — and if you’re a longtime player, you’ve probably been expecting him.

The other highlight of the next version, of course, is the new Nod-Krai region, which is something those in attendance at the show will get to experience first-hand.

Genshin Impact is hosting an offline experience at its booth at gamescom to show off the new Nod-Krai region. We sadly can’t experience that from the comfort of our homes, but this fresh look at Flins is nothing to scoff at.

Flins is a warrior from the Lightkeepers, a faction that hails from Nod-Krai, and he’s part of a new story chapter that will kick off with the game’s annual major version update. Today’s trailer teases a bit of that narrative, too. Version 6.0 is set to arrive in September, which is when we’ll be able to get our hands on all that.

There’s clearly a lot more that’s being kept under wraps, but we won’t have to wait too long to learn all remaining details. The next Genshin Impact livestream will be taking place on the last Friday of the month, and that’s when all will be revealed.

In case you missed it, Genshin Impact’s developer recently announced plans to drop support for PS4, and raise system requirements on PC and mobile. Not all of these changes will take place at once, but you should probably prepare for that day if your device is affected.

If you’re looking for some guidance on how to complete the Traces of Chroma quest, or need help reaching Tenochtitlan Harbor, hit up those links for our detailed guides. As ever, the massive Genshin Impact codes page is never not useful.

How to watch Made by Google Pixel 10 launch event live today

by admin August 20, 2025

Yes, September is all about iPhone, but Google is taking center stage today with its hotly anticipated Pixel hardware event. Thanks to a parade of leaks, we think we know mostly what to expect today — Pixel 10 phones, along with new watches and earbuds — but we’ll know for sure later today. That’s because the event kicks off at 1PM ET.

If you want to be the first to hear the official scoop, you can tune into the Made by Google YouTube channel (or right here!) to catch Google’s event, which will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon and also include other celebrities like Stephen Curry, Lando Norris and the Jonas Brothers — get ready for some potentially awkward cue card readings! And open a second window to follow our Pixel event liveblog for real-time analysis.

What’s on tap? You can expect a more power-efficient Tensor G5 processor in all the new Pixel 10 phones. (That could help power new Gemini AI features, too.) The base-level Pixel 10 should get a big camera upgrade: a 5x telephoto lens. Before this generation, you had to splurge on a Pro or Fold model to get optical zoom. Cameras will be higher-res across the board, too.

In other areas, Qi2 magnetic charging is expected to come to the new Pixels. Expect a new accessory ecosystem, a la Apple’s MagSafe, dubbed “Pixelsnap.” We’ll also likely see the Pixel Watch 4 with a larger battery and smaller bezels. And the Pixel Buds 2a could bring refinements to the company’s budget earbuds.

Pixel 9 Pro

(Sam Rutherford for Engadget)

Engadget’s Pixel 10 leak roundup will give you a much more detailed dive into the rumors. You can head back here on August 20 at 1PM ET to watch live.
