Ethereum Foundation pauses Ecosystem Support Program’s open grant applications

by admin September 1, 2025

The Ethereum Foundation is pausing all open grants applications as the entity’s Ecosystem Support Program transitions to a new growth chapter.

Summary

  • Ethereum Foundation has paused open grants in its support program as it eyes transition to a new model.
  • The Ecosystem Support Program awarded over $13 million to 105 projects in 2024.

The Ethereum Foundation, a key player in the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain ecosystem, is taking a new approach in the support for builders.

On Aug. 29, the EF announced that the Ethereum Support Program, which launched as a grants program in 2018 and aimed at offering grants to projects helping to advance Ethereum’s growth, is taking a new direction.

The move follows a recent overhaul of the foundation’s vision and approach to ecosystem development.

EF is looking at a structure aimed at streamlining processes and enhancing efficiency, hence a more proactive funding model for builders, according to the update. Latest changes follow the foundation’s shake up of its structure in June 2025, including cutting of the core team amid broader reorganization.

Funding Ethereum’s builders

Evolving the funding model aligns with Ethereum’s growth, which currently sees over $91 billion in total value locked in decentralized finance and more than $148 billion in stablecoin market cap. Scaling this network amid developer activity aimed at accelerating adoption necessitates that the funding approach mirrors the traction.

“As part of this transition, we have temporarily paused open grant applications. This change will enable us time to redesign in a way that redirects our focus toward strategic initiatives, moving from a reactive model to a more proactive one that also supports the priorities of other EF teams,” the Ecosystem Program Support team wrote.

In 2024, the grants program saw nearly $3 million in funding awarded to 105 projects, including across developer tooling, data and analytics, research and education. Specific projects that benefited included Commit-Boost, BundleBear, Web3Bridge and Ethereum Cypherpunk Congress.

Although open grant applications are temporarily paused, the Ethereum Foundation through the ESP team plans to continue support for all active grant beneficiaries. The team will also share more details for the new model and refined priorities  in the fourth quarter of 2025.

August ETF Flows Show the Massive Scale of Bitcoin to Ethereum Rotation

by admin September 1, 2025

Good Morning, Asia. Here’s what’s making news in the markets:

Welcome to Asia Morning Briefing, a daily summary of top stories during U.S. hours and an overview of market moves and analysis. For a detailed overview of U.S. markets, see CoinDesk’s Crypto Daybook Americas.

August delivered a rare reversal in the ETF tide: Bitcoin spot funds shed $751 million in net outflows just weeks after powering the asset to a $124,000 all-time high, while Ethereum ETFs quietly absorbed $3.9 billion, according to market data.

The divergence is striking because it marks the first time since both products launched that BTC ETFs have lost ground, while Ethereum ETFs have posted strong inflows in the same month, suggesting that institutional investors may be rebalancing their exposure.

(SoSoValue)

On-chain data underscores Bitcoin’s fragility. A recent report from Glassnode shows BTC slipping below the cost basis of 1- and 3-month holders, leaving short-term investors under water and raising the risk of deeper retracement. A sustained move beneath the six-month cost basis near $107,000 could accelerate losses toward the $93,000–$95,000 support zone, where a dense cluster of long-term holders last accumulated.

Prediction markets are echoing that caution. Polymarket traders now assign a 65% chance that BTC revisits $100,000 before $130,000, while only 24% expect it to hit $150,000 by year-end. That shift suggests investors see the July rally as overextended without renewed ETF demand to back it.

Ethereum, meanwhile, has benefited from steadier inflows. ETH ETFs have logged positive net subscriptions in 10 of the last 12 months, and August’s $3.9 billion haul helped the token notch a 25% gain over 30 days despite a rough week.

With Bitcoin’s ETF tide flowing out, Ethereum’s steadier institutional bid may be emerging as a quiet ballast and perhaps the start of a rotation story heading into year-end.

Market Movements:

BTC: Market observers say crypto charts look so bearish they could be bullish, according to prior CoinDesk reporting, as BTC trades below 108k, with forced liquidations clearing leverage and a rebound likely after the Fed’s Sept. 17 decision.

ETH: Polymarket traders see Ethereum holding above $3,800 into September 5 with over 90% odds, while longer-term bets give it a 71% chance of finishing 2025 above $5,000 and slimmer odds of $10,000 or higher.

Gold: Gold climbed toward record highs as traders priced in Fed rate cuts, a weaker dollar, and political uncertainty following challenges to the central bank’s independence.

Nikkei 225: The Nikkei 225 looked set to open lower as investors weighed a U.S. court ruling against Trump’s tariffs, China-India ties, and upcoming manufacturing data.

4,600,000 Burned ETH Coming Back? Ethereum Community Foundation Announces BETH

4,600,000 Burned ETH Coming Back? Ethereum Community Foundation Announces BETH

by admin August 31, 2025

  • Details on new token
  • Why it’s questionable

The Ethereum community is agitated by a startling announcement: The Ethereum Community Foundation, which is not the same as the official Ethereum Foundation, has announced the release of BETH, a new token that will be used to represent ETH that has already been burned.

Details on new token

As stated by the group, BETH is a proof-of-burn token, meaning that each unit represents an equivalent quantity of ETH that has been verified to have been taken out of circulation, in accordance with EIP-1559 and other burn mechanisms. Accordingly, the 40.6 million ETH that have been burned since the London upgrade could now be reissued as BETH.

Ethereum Community Foundation announced the tokenization of burned ETH as BETH, creating a new proof-of-burn token. Each BETH represents ETH verified as removed from circulation, enabling transparent and auditable burn records. Ethereum co-founder and ConsenSys CEO Joseph Lubin…

— Wu Blockchain (@WuBlockchain) August 31, 2025

The goal is to offer a new class of tokens that recognizes the destruction of supply, while simultaneously producing an open, auditable ledger of burned coins. Although specifics are still unknown, the announcement also alluded to the launch of related tokens BBETH and BBBETH. ETH burning will become a highly profitable activity, according to Joseph Lubin, co-founder of Ethereum and CEO of ConsenSys, and BETH is a crucial step in formalizing that process.

Why it’s questionable

Although the idea has created excitement, there are also important concerns. The very idea behind burning coins, to permanently reduce supply, is undermined when they are tokenized. The narrative of ETH scarcity may wane if the community starts to view BETH as a complementary asset with speculative potential.

Furthermore, BETH’s value does not increase simply because it is associated with burned ETH. BETH is not inherently involved in Ethereum’s consensus staking or gas fee structure in contrast to ETH itself. It’s basically a derivative product with unknown long-term utility.

You Might Also Like

Ethereum Community Foundation is not the Ethereum Foundation, as stated in the announcement. Because it could affect BETH’s acceptance and legitimacy, this distinction is crucial. Without well-defined governance, practicality and consumer demand, BETH runs the risk of becoming more of an oddity than a game-changing invention.

Although tokenizing burned assets can bring transparency, it also raises paradoxes: Does representing destroyed value add value or simply lessen the act of burning itself? Until these issues are resolved, BETH should be used cautiously.

Whale Adds $435-M Ethereum As Institutional Demand Drives Market

by admin August 31, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

Ethereum has been one of the strongest performers in the crypto market over the past two months, surging steadily to reach new all-time highs just days ago. Its rally has reinforced Ethereum’s role as the leading altcoin, attracting both institutional attention and retail speculation. However, the landscape is shifting as selling pressure begins to creep in. Some analysts warn that ETH could be at risk of further downside in the coming days, with volatility testing investors’ confidence after such an aggressive run higher.

Yet, while concerns grow, on-chain data reveals that whales continue to accumulate at scale. According to Arkham, a massive whale holding $5.97 billion in Bitcoin has now purchased $434.7 million worth of ETH. Just yesterday, this whale moved $1.1 billion to a new wallet (169q) and has been actively purchasing ETH through Hyperunit. In total, he has accumulated more than $3 billion in ETH, staking the majority of it, a move that signals strong conviction despite near-term uncertainty.

This tug of war between selling pressure and whale accumulation sets the stage for a critical moment in Ethereum’s trajectory. The coming days will reveal whether whales are strong enough to keep ETH supported or if further retracements await.

Whale Stakes Billions In Ethereum As Capital Rotation Grows

According to Arkham, one of the largest whales in the market has now purchased over $3 billion worth of Ethereum (ETH), staking the majority of it. This activity has drawn the attention of both analysts and investors, as it highlights a growing capital rotation trend away from Bitcoin and into Ethereum. The whale in question, who initially held $5.97 billion in BTC, has been gradually converting his position, deploying funds at scale through Hyperunit. His BTC address (169qYZJYkyW7HhmWTj58mVXRZDhMFHPZPd) and ETH address (0x616767179c5305a89f13348134C681061Cf0bA9e) are now being closely tracked by the market as investors speculate on his next move.

Ethereum Whale buying | Source: Arkham

After moving $1.1 billion in BTC to a fresh wallet, the whale has already purchased $434.7 million in ETH, adding to his massive accumulation and signaling continued confidence in Ethereum’s future. The majority of these holdings are being staked, which reduces liquid supply and underscores a long-term outlook rather than short-term speculation.

Now, the question remains: will he buy the next $650 million today? If so, the additional demand could provide strong support for Ethereum, even as short-term price action shows weakness. More importantly, this capital rotation trend is a clear sign that altcoins are preparing for their turn. As investors rotate from BTC to ETH and beyond, the groundwork for a broader altcoin cycle appears to be forming, setting the stage for heightened volatility and opportunity in the weeks ahead.

Testing Key Demand Level

Ethereum (ETH) is trading around $4,369, showing signs of consolidation after weeks of sharp rallies and subsequent retracements. The chart highlights how ETH has cooled from its recent all-time highs near $4,900, but remains firmly above critical moving averages that continue to guide its bullish structure.

ETH testing key MA | Source: ETHUSDT chart on TradingView

The 50-day moving average, currently near $4,372, is acting as immediate support and has been tested multiple times in recent sessions. Holding above this level is key to maintaining short-term momentum. Meanwhile, the 100-day average is around $3,962, and the 200-day average is at $3,257, reinforcing the long-term bullish trend, suggesting that even deeper pullbacks would likely be met with strong buying interest.

However, Ethereum’s inability to push back above $4,600 highlights waning momentum in the near term. Profit-taking and broader market uncertainty have slowed the pace of gains, leaving ETH vulnerable to further consolidation. A decisive break below $4,350 could open the door to $4,000 as the next major demand zone.

Ethereum remains in a healthy uptrend, but the market is clearly waiting for fresh catalysts. Whether it’s whale accumulation or broader institutional flows, ETH will need renewed buying pressure to retest its highs above $4,800.

US Commerce Dept. Puts GDP Data on Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana Blockchains

by admin August 31, 2025

The Department of Commerce announced Thursday it has begun uploading its GDP data onto nine blockchain networks, and will also enter partnerships with decentralized oracle networks Chainlink and Pyth to integrate U.S. macroeconomic data within the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem and the broader crypto economy.

The department’s GDP data release for Q2 2025 has already been uploaded to Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and six other blockchains: Tron, Avalanche, Stellar, and Ethereum layer-2 networks Polygon, Arbitrum, and Optimism. They were aided in that effort by crypto exchanges Coinbase, Gemini, and Kraken, the department announced.

Chainlink confirmed to Decrypt that the company was not involved in the effort to upload the GDP data directly onto those networks.

Going forward, the partnerships with Chainlink and Pyth will enable the dissemination of verified U.S. government data—including GDP statistics, the inflation-tracking Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index, and Real Final Sales to Private Domestic Purchasers, a key measure of economic demand—across the DeFi ecosystem.

The initiative marks the first time that a federal government agency has ever published economic data on-chain. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick—whose Wall Street firm, Cantor Fitzgerald, is deeply involved in the crypto economy—teased the move at a White House cabinet meeting earlier this week.

What is the purpose of such an integration? Answers vary. Pyth, in announcing the partnership with the U.S. government, hailed it as a step towards “increas[ing] confidence in public information systems” through data transparency.

Chainlink more specifically celebrated the ways in which U.S. government data will now be able to be used to fuel and support DeFi activity. The company said Thursday the verified data will soon support related prediction markets, encourage the development of new types of crypto assets, and increase the adaptability of tokenized assets, among other use cases.

The Department of Commerce did not immediately respond when asked by Decrypt what tangible benefits its new on-chain initiative will offer the federal government, versus other means of data publication.

“It’s only fitting that the Commerce Department and President Donald Trump, the ‘crypto-president,’ publicly release economic statistical data on the blockchain,” Commerce Secretary Lutnick said today in a statement. “We are making America’s economic truth immutable and globally accessible like never before, cementing our role as the blockchain capital of the world.”

The companies involved in today’s announcement have already benefited mightily from it. Pyth’s native token, PYTH, exploded by some 69% in value within minutes of the news breaking—a gain worth nearly $1 billion, in terms of the token’s fully diluted valuation.

Chainlink (LINK) popped a more modest 7.6% to $25.82, before settling back down to $24.76 at writing. The price gain was still, given LINK’s value, worth over $1.8 billion. The token notably, however, has surged over 40% in the last month—a pump worth over $7 billion.

Chainlink co-founder Sergey Nazarov has been a vocal supporter of the Trump administration’s crypto embrace this year, and attended both a White House crypto summit in March as well as President Donald Trump’s signing of the stablecoin-focused GENIUS Act there last month.

“I just want to express my deep gratitude,” Nazarov told Trump at the crypto summit, “for the seriousness with which you are approaching our industry.”

Ethereum Etfs Record $4B Monthly Inflows As Bitcoin Lags

Ethereum ETFs Record $4B Monthly Inflows as Bitcoin Lags

by admin August 31, 2025

U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs are wrapping up August with nearly $4 billion in net inflows, marking their second-largest monthly gain since they launched. This boost comes as Ethereum continues to outshine Bitcoin ETFs.

Additionally, data from Coinglass highlights the extent of this shift. Back in late 2024, inflows into Ethereum ETFs were quite erratic, with investors pulling out funds even while ETH was hovering around $4,000.

Ethereum Spot ETF Net Inflow, Source: Coinglass

Despite rising prices, market confidence remained quite shaky. By February 2025, Ethereum had dipped below $2,000, and ETF outflows were on the rise. This led to increased selling pressure that affected institutional and retail sentiment.

However, everything changed dramatically by mid-2025. Starting in May, inflows surged, with institutions investing heavily in Ethereum ETFs. At the same time, ETH made a recovery, bouncing back from under $2,000 to near $4,500 by August 29.

As of August 30, Bitcoin spot ETFs experienced outflows of 1.13K BTC, yet the overall net inflows are at 594.01K BTC. The daily trading volume reached $4.66 billion, with net assets totaling $145.17 billion.

Bitcoin ETFs Show Turbulence

Meanwhile, Bitcoin spot ETFs delivered a different story. According to SoSoValue, daily inflows swung violently between surges and withdrawals. At one point, daily inflows exceeded $1 billion. However, several sessions also recorded outflows worth hundreds of millions.

Bitcoin Spot ETF Net Inflow, Source: Sosovalue

On top of that, the white line on the chart indicates that Bitcoin ETF assets surged past $140 billion by the end of August. This shows that, even with all the ups and downs, Bitcoin ETFs have managed to keep their long-term growth momentum.

Particularly, Bitcoin’s price followed ETF flows closely. Since the beginning of 2024, BTC rose to exceed $110,000, which is similar to the activity  inflows and outflows at the time. Thus, Bitcoin ETFs continue to influence market sentiment and liquidity.

According to data from Farside investors, Bitcoin ETFs experienced highs and lows, with BlackRock’s IBIT taking the lead by pulling in over $58 billion since its launch. On August 14, IBIT saw an inflow of more than $523 million.

But just a few days later, on August 19, investors pulled out the same amount across Bitcoin ETFs. Fidelity’s FBTC and Ark’s ARKB also faced significant fluctuations. Additionally, Grayscale’s GBTC continued to lose assets, primarily due to its 1.5% fee, while competitors charge around 0.25%.

Ethereum ETFs Show Early Enthusiasm

As for Ethereum ETFs, data from farside shows August having around $13.5 billion flowing in from various providers. According to the data, there is high demand with August 11 alone bringing in over $1 billion.

However, by mid-month, the trend reversed, and on August 19, there were nearly $430 million in outflows. As the month came to a close, the flows evened out but remained shaky, with Ethereum ETFs losing $165 million on August 29.

Analysts Highlight Broader Expansion

Bloomberg’s James Seyffart noted that Ethereum ETFs alone attracted nearly $10 billion since July, totaling almost $14 billion since inception.

NEW: Ethereum ETFs are on an absolute tear. They’ve taken in nearly $10 billion since the start of July. Here’s what their flows look like since launch — nearly $14 billion pic.twitter.com/Rd4WmCg3Mg

— James Seyffart (@JSeyff) August 29, 2025

Additionally, analyst Lucky pointed out that over 90 crypto ETPs now await U.S. approval, including Solana, XRP, and HBAR. Hence, regulators could open new pathways for institutional capital as early as September.

The Ethereum ETF momentum proves the institutions’ interest. Having other altcoin ETFs will likely increase the funding flowing into the digital assets.

Myriad Moves: Will Dogecoin Pump or Dump? And How Big Will SharpLink’s Ethereum Treasury Get?

by admin August 31, 2025

In brief

  • Top markets on Myriad this week focus on Dogecoin’s next move, SharpLink’s Ethereum holdings, and the U.S. Open.
  • Predictors think SharpLink Gaming will achieve its goal of accumulating 1 million ETH by September 16.
  • They also lean bullish on DOGE, expecting a pump to $0.30 before a dump to $0.15.

Have a strong opinion on who’s taking home the U.S. Open men’s singles title, where Dogecoin’s price is headed, or SharpLink Gaming’s path to holding 1 million Ethereum (ETH)?

You can make your call on those hot topics and many more via Myriad Markets’ prediction markets on Ethereum layer-2 networks Abstract and Linea.

Prediction markets have quickly become one of crypto’s most popular consumer apps, giving users a chance to put their money where their mouth is on everything from sports and pop culture to token prices and corporate moves.

Here’s a look at the hottest Myriad markets this week.

(Disclaimer: Myriad Markets is a product of Decrypt’s parent company, DASTAN.)

Will SharpLink (SBET) hold 1M ETH by September 16?

Market Open: August 6
Market Close: September 14
Volume: $8.96K
Link: See the latest odds on the “Will SharpLink (SBET) Hold 1M ETH by September 16?” market on Myriad

Minneapolis-based SharpLink Gaming adopted an Ethereum treasury strategy in April and has already amassed more than $3.6 billion worth of the second-largest crypto asset by market cap.

But the firm doesn’t want to stop there, aiming to acquire 1 million ETH as its first major milestone. Thus far, it sits nearly 80% of the way there, having acquired just shy of 800,000 ETH as of its latest announcement on Tuesday.

Predictors on Myriad though are asked whether or not the firm will complete its goal in the coming weeks and stash away 1 million ETH by September 16.

As of Thursday morning, predictors give the firm around a 56% chance of accomplishing the feat, a drop of around 14% in the last week despite SharpLink’s recent addition of more than 55,000 ETH.

In its Tuesday announcement, the firm also indicated it has around $200,000,000 in cash on hand ready for ETH purchases and had raised an additional $360 million via its at-the-money (ATM) offering to do the same.

With that much purchasing power, it could add around 122,000 ETH based on today’s Ethereum prices. Unfortunately though, even a major purchase of 122,000 ETH would leave SharpLink about 80,000 ETH shy of its target.

Plus, the firm has only ever purchased more than 100,000 ETH on two separate occasions according to data from StrategicETHReserve.xyz.

But it may not need a major splash purchase in order to accomplish the task by September 16.

SharpLink only needs to average around 67,000 ETH for each of the next three weeks to get the job done—an amount it exceeded with six of its last seven Ethereum acquisitions.

What’s Next? The firm typically announces its purchases on Tuesdays. There are three Tuesdays left before the market resolution.

Will Sinner win the U.S. Open men’s singles title?

Tennis is back in the Big Apple, wrapping the tennis calendar’s Major Championship season with a final two-week event in New York City—the U.S. Open.

Reigning champion and recent Wimbledon victor Jannik Sinner is the favorite, and Myriad predictors are tasked with identifying whether or not he’ll raise the trophy once more.

As play enters the second round, predictors are split, giving Sinner a 51.4% chance of walking out of New York with his second straight U.S. Open crown. But rival Carlos Alcaraz is still in the draw, and so is 24-time major champ, Novak Djokovic.

Nevertheless, the odds are in line with those from traditional sportsbooks like DraftKings and FanDuel, which offer Sinner at -105 in American odds or around a 51.22% implied probability.

Odds for the Italian have jumped around 4% in the last seven days on Myriad as his draw has eased up, losing top British talent and #5 seed Jack Draper to injury withdrawal.

On the other side, Alcaraz—the second-most likely to win the tournament—will face a much tougher road to the final, potentially needing to get through Americans Ben Shelton or Taylor Fritz, and maybe even Djokovic, who all grace his side of the bracket.

What’s Next? Sinner will play his second round match at 12:30p.m. ET on Thursday.

Dogecoin’s next move: Pump to $0.30 or dump to $0.15

Market Open: August 25
Market Close: Open Until Resolved
Volume: $924
Link: See the latest odds on the “Dogecoin’s Next Move: Pump to $0.30 or Dump to $0.15” market on Myriad

Bitcoin and Ethereum have both made new all-time highs this year—both this month, even—but Dogecoin still sits more than 69% off its top mark of $0.73 from 2021.

Yet, whales are still stacking the meme coin anyway, and its market cap is still high enough to fall inside the top 10 of all crypto assets according to data from CoinGecko.

A new prediction market on Myriad asks predictors to guess the token’s next move—a pump to $0.30 or dump to $0.15. With the token price stuck right in the middle, trading hands at $0.22 as of Thursday morning, predictors are also split down the middle.

Odds for a pump to $0.30 edge out a dump, priced at 54% at the time of writing as Dogecoin has climbed around 2% in the last 24 hours.

The token has jumped over 100% on the year, but will need another 33% boost to reach $0.30 from here—a mark it hasn’t held since February.

What type of catalyst might help propel it further? It won’t immediately come from an ETF. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently announced it was delaying its decision on a spot Dogecoin ETF applied for by Grayscale.

But “believers” are still accumulating the asset, with an analyst recently telling Decrypt that “long-run investors [are] positioning for potential upside.”

Will those believers be rewarded with $0.30 DOGE soon? Dogecoin is the only non-stablecoin asset in the top 10 cryptocurrencies that hasn’t hit an all-time high in the last year, so maybe it’s due for a serious surge. Maybe not.

What’s Next? Though delayed, decisions on spot ETFs for Dogecoin and other alternative cryptocurrencies could come by October according to Bloomberg ETF analyst, Eric Balchunas.

Is AI the Future of Ethereum? The Network’s Developers Are Banking on It

by admin August 30, 2025

In brief

  • Tech giants like Google and Amazon are betting on AI agents, and Ethereum developers believe their blockchain is uniquely positioned to power this new machine economy.
  • Ethereum core developer Davide Crapis has proposed ERC-8004, a standard for AI agents to discover, verify, and transact with one another.
  • Supporters argue Ethereum’s payment rails, digital identity tools, and scalable multi-layer structure make it the most efficient foundation for an AI-driven economy.

Tech giants like Google and Amazon are in the business of predicting where society is headed, and in recent months, both companies have started making moves to corner the development of AI agents—automated assistants authorized to zip around the internet, completing complex tasks on behalf of their human overlords and other machines.

The push to develop a formidable AI agent economy is still far from complete. But when robots are eventually let loose en masse to transact efficiently with both the existing economy and each other, experts predict their productivity and output will rival that of humans.

The main question looming over the development of the AI agent economy is what  infrastructure will best facilitate this explosion. Increasingly, top minds in Silicon Valley and crypto are coalescing around a single answer to that lucrative question: Ethereum.

Ethereum’s core developers have recently arrived at the conclusion that the network is uniquely well positioned to become the foundational layer of the AI agent economy, given its ability to provide three key ingredients the ecosystem currently lacks: payment rails, identity verification, and trust.

The team is confident that within a handful of years, Ethereum will not just be foundational to the AI agent economy, but also that AI agents will become the core user base of the network.

“For us, it’s very important. It’s a strategic area,” Davide Crapis, an Ethereum core developer focused on AI, told Decrypt this week.

Crapis said that within three to five years, he believes the majority of traffic on Ethereum will be coming from machines.

ERC-8004

Earlier this month, Crapis debuted ERC-8004: a proposed interface for Ethereum that would standardize how AI agents discover each other on the network and establish trust sufficient to engage in economic interactions.

The proposal fixes what Crapis sees as the major flaws in existing ecosystems for agent-to-agent interactions. In April, Google unveiled the Agent2Agent protocol, which it promised would allow AI agents to seamlessly collaborate and “drive unprecedented levels of efficiency and innovation.”

But the framework has its shortcomings. For one thing, it doesn’t currently enable payments—an essential ingredient for a genuinely autonomous robot economy. Two, it doesn’t give agents the means to identify and trust each other out on the open internet. That means, in practice, that the protocol can only be used effectively to facilitate the interaction of agents within a single organization, on tasks that don’t involve financial transactions.

By its nature, Ethereum can easily fill these fundamental gaps, Crapis said. The payments issue is instantly solved by on-chain transactions, which AI agents already are capable of completing. As for identity and trust: that’s Ethereum’s bread and butter. NFTs, for instance, provide a secure means of establishing a unique digital identity. ERC-8004 provides a simple framework for how AI agents would go about validating each other’s identities on-chain.

And if Ethereum were to provide that framework to undergird the AI agent economy, it’s not like the blockchain network would be going up against the likes of Google. On the contrary, the Silicon Valley behemoth is actually backing Crapis’ Ethereum proposal. Jordan Ellis, one of the core Google employees behind its Agent2Agent protocol, is a co-author of ERC-8004.

“This, for me, is a signal that it’s not too early,” Crapis said of the collaboration. “In the sense that even in the traditional AI space, people are looking into agent-to-agent payments, and agent-to-agent identity.”

Powerful stakeholders in the burgeoning AI agent economy want to see the ecosystem as universally standardized as possible, to increase its potential reach and ease of navigation. These companies may not be crypto maximalists, necessarily; but if blockchain networks solve their problems far more easily than other approaches, what’s the downside?

The perfect use case?

Time and again over the last decade, crypto projects have struggled to reach mass adoption, in large part because they’ve failed at convincing mainstream consumers that the pain of navigating complicated blockchain networks is worth the gain of financial incentives or privacy benefits.

But in the looming age of the robot economy, crypto’s marketing woes may become far less of a liability. Crapis, who is now back at the Ethereum Foundation after a few years working on AI-related projects, is adamant that when the AI agent economy booms, robots will unemotionally choose the most efficient terrain on which to complete transactions—and that this best market will unquestionably be Ethereum.

“Our challenge has been making [Ethereum] more UX-friendly for humans to use, trying to shift their behavior,” Crapis said. “But if the user is an agent or a machine, then it’s fairly easy. Robots don’t have any problems remembering their private keys.”

The traditional economy was built for humans, and designed to verify human activity. (What’s your mother’s maiden name?) Ethereum, on the other hand, almost seems like it was built for robots, years before they possessed the capability to roam the internet on their own. That long-perceived liability—the network’s convoluted user experience—may now finally reveal itself as a boon in the era of the agent-dominated internet.

Even among other blockchains, the Ethereum team feels the network’s signature multi-layer structure is uniquely well poised to absorb the massive amount of AI agent traffic likely to arise in coming years.

The base Ethereum blockchain will provide foundational security and stability to handle the deluge and to verify particularly high-stakes transactions, they say, while an ever-customizable, expandable, cheap, and speedy legion of layer-2 networks will be able to handle the likely massive quantity of everyday, smaller-scale settlements.

Other blockchains will have an immensely difficult time carrying the weight of the entire AI agent economy on their shoulders, Crapis said.

“Solana, in its current design, cannot sustain the machine economy,” he said, giving the example of Ethereum’s rival network. “They have no idea how much activity can come on-chain, once these machines start using it.”

The software developer predicts that once the AI agent economy arrives in full force, it will redefine the function of Ethereum, just as decentralized finance (DeFi) did back in 2020.

Getting the Ethereum developer ecosystem to agree on a standard for agent-to-agent encounters is the first crucial step in preparing for that day. Crapis said he intends on tweaking ERC-8004 over the next few months, as he gets feedback from community members.

But the standard will then be finalized in short order, to prepare for the arrival of an army of intelligent, crypto-wielding robots.

“I cannot predict when this takeoff will happen,” Crapis said, “but I feel that we have some urgency to build for it.”

Fundstrat’s Tom Lee Reveals Why Investors Left Ethereum For Solana, But What Does Wall Street Want?

by admin August 30, 2025

Tom Lee, veteran trading analyst, Fundstrat co‑founder, and the strategist behind BitMine’s Ethereum treasury strategy, is once again championing Ethereum.

During an interview with Mario Nawfal on X, Lee acknowledged how the broader crypto community appeared to abandon Ethereum in favor of faster alternatives like Solana and Sui. However, institutional investors, particularly Wall Street players, value something far more important, which only Ethereum can provide.

Retail Chases Speed, Wall Street Favors Reliability

In the interview, Lee challenges the belief that blockchain networks must prioritize transaction speed above all. Rather, he argues that institutional investors, particularly Wall Street investors, place much greater value on uptime and reliability, qualities that Ethereum has despite being slower at its base layer.

Lee said that retail investors abandoned Ethereum because they thought faster was better, leading them toward high-throughput networks like Solana and Sui with seemingly superior economics. But according to him, Wall Street thinks differently. Institutions prioritize “100 % uptime,” because they can always deploy on layer‑2 solutions to compensate for Ethereum’s base-layer speed limitations.

Interestingly, Lee pointed to staking as another factor in which Ethereum is better than its counterparts. According to Lee, staking isn’t just about yield, but it’s about influence. “If Goldman stakes enough ETH, they have a positive voice on the Ethereum itself and how they upgrade,” he said. In short, institutional stakeholders like Goldman Sachs would care more about influencing Ethereum through staking, but this is not a weakness.

Lee noted that many veteran investors he recently spoke with still see Ethereum as underperforming, not because of any technological shortcomings, but because its price consistently lagged behind Bitcoin for months. However, this perception is now beginning to shift with Ethereum’s price action since July.

After Ethereum broke past $4,800, the strength in price is improving confidence among crypto investors, and this momentum could set the stage for much larger growth for its price action in the near future.

Ethereum Price Action

Ethereum indeed has been on a remarkable upward arc since July. In late August 2025, the Ethereum price smashed through its previous all‑time high and traded above $4,880 for the first time since 2021, before finally peaking at $4,946. This, in turn, saw the Ethereum total market cap almost hitting the $600 billion mark

The rally wasn’t just price action. It echoed structural shifts in the institutional inflow dynamics into large cryptocurrencies, especially as seen in the performance of Spot Ethereum ETFs compared to Bitcoin.

Although Ethereum has since entered into a correction path down to the $4,400 level, the sentiment surrounding Ethereum is still bullish. Analysts have raised year‑end forecasts of Ethereum from between $6,000 and $12,000, based on increased institutional engagement and a positive influence from the US Genius Act. At the time of writing, Ethereum is trading at $4,390, up by 1.1% in the past 24 hours.

Bitcoin OG Whale Sells $215 Million in BTC, Buys Ethereum

by admin August 30, 2025

A prominent Bitcoin billionaire is continuing his aggressive pivot into Ethereum, according to data from whale-tracking platform Lookonchain.

Over the past 12 hours alone, the investor sold 2,000 BTC worth $221 million and used the proceeds to purchase 49,850 ETH valued at $219 million on spot markets.

In total, the whale has accumulated 691,358 ETH worth roughly $3 billion in just the past two weeks, marking one of the most significant ongoing shifts of capital from Bitcoin into Ethereum seen in recent months.

After briefly pausing his ETH purchases for two days, the whale returned to the market with force, depositing another 1,000 BTC ($108.27 million) to Hyperliquid, where he sold the coins and converted the funds directly into spot Ethereum.

Alongside these buys, the trader also closed out a massive leveraged long position of 96,452 ETH ($433 million), securing a profit of $2.6 million before immediately reinvesting into spot ETH.

In the past 14 hours, his activity has further intensified, with sales of 3,968 BTC worth $437 million matched by fresh acquisitions of 96,531 ETH valued at $443 million.

This series of moves underscores a strong conviction in Ethereum over Bitcoin, with billions in capital being actively reallocated in real time.
