Spot XRP ETF Coming Soon? Asset Managers Submit Amended S-1 Filings

by admin August 23, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

According to the latest report, a group of asset management firms submitted S-1 amendments for a spot XRP ETF (exchange-traded fund) in the United States. These movements reflect the ramped-up interest of these institutions to get the approval of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to offer this crypto-linked investment product.

What Changed In The Proposed Spot XRP ETFs?

On Friday, August 22, a slew of asset managers, including Grayscale, Bitwise, Canary, CoinShares, Franklin Templeton, 21Shares, and WisdomTree, filed amended S-1 statements for their proposed spot XRP ETFs. According to experts, this round of filings might be in response to the US SEC’s feedback on their original applications.

Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart said on X:

Bunch of XRP ETF filings being updated by issuers today. Almost certainly due to feedback from [the] SEC. Good sign, but also mostly expected.

Similarly, the ETF Store President, Nate Geraci, shared a similar sentiment, saying that it is very significant to see the various asset managers roll out their amended S-1 filings at once and on the same day. “Very good sign IMO [in my opinion],” Geraci wrote on X.

For a security or ETF to be listed on an exchange, it needs an S-1 filing, which provides a brief prospectus of the proposed security. Meanwhile, the S-1 form is amended as material information changes regarding the structure of the exchange-traded fund.

Hence, it is no surprise to see some changes in the structure of proposed spot XRP ETFs. For instance, the amended S-1 filing appears to switch the exchange-traded products from simply cash creations and redemptions to allow for XRP or cash creations and cash or in-kind redemptions.

It is worth mentioning that BlackRock, the world’s largest asset management firm and manager of the largest spot Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded fund, has still not made a move to join the race for the spot XRP ETFs. As reported by Bitcoinist, the trillion-dollar asset manager revealed earlier in August that it has no intentions to launch an XRP fund.

XRP Price At A Glance

Following a torrid start to the week, the XRP token fell beneath the $3 mark to as low as $2.8 on Friday. However, the altcoin jumped back above $3 on the back of the news of the complete dismissal of Ripple’s lawsuit and Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s speech. As of this writing, the XRP token is valued at around $3.01, reflecting an over 5% price jump in the past 24 hours.

VanEck Files First JitoSOL Liquid Staking ETF in U.S.

by admin August 23, 2025

VanEck has filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to launch the first exchange-traded fund (ETF) built around JitoSOL, a token on the Solana blockchain.

The application, submitted today through a Form S-1 filing, is meant to give investors a new way to buy into Solana’s liquid staking market without holding the tokens directly.

Proud to announce the S-1 filing of the @vaneck_us JitoSOL ETF!

The first spot Solana ETF backed 100% by LST staking!

This filing represents a culmination of 8 months of collaborative work with SEC staff to establish clear regulatory frameworks for Liquid Staking Tokens.

🧵⬇️

— Jito (@jito_sol) August 22, 2025

According to the filling, JitoSOL is a type of token that represents staked SOL, the native token of Solana. When someone stakes SOL, they lock it in the network to help keep it running, and in return, they earn rewards.

Normally, staked tokens cannot be used until they are unlocked, but JitoSOL changes that. With JitoSOL, people can earn rewards and still use or trade their tokens at the same time. This is called liquid staking, and it gives users more freedom compared to traditional staking.

According to VanEck’s filing, the new fund will follow the price of JitoSOL, which means the ETF’s value will rise or fall depending on how JitoSOL performs. This would let investors buy shares of the ETF in their regular brokerage accounts instead of managing crypto wallets or exchanges.

In a blogpost, Jito Foundation said the fund is ““the first spot Solana ETF 100% backed by a liquid staking token (LST): the Jito Network’s JitoSOL….Ultimately, packaging exposure to JitoSOL in a regulated wrapper is a meaningful step toward bridging the gap between emergent blockchain infrastructure and institutional allocators,”

Meanwhile, ito Labs has also been in talks with the SEC for months to explain how staking and restaking could work in ETFs. CEO Lucas Bruder and Chief Legal Officer Rebecca Rettig have met with the SEC’s Crypto Task Force.

The SEC itself has recently clarified its views on staking. Earlier this year, the regulator said proof-of-stake systems do not count as securities. Later, it also said some liquid staking activities are not securities either. With this new guidance, the Jito Foundation said, the “compliance runway for LST-based ETFs/ETPs is clear and actionable.”

This filing also comes just after REX-Osprey launched a Solana staking ETF that used JitoSOL for rewards. The SEC is now reviewing many crypto ETF applications, with a friendlier approach under the Trump administration. If approved, the VanEck JitoSOL ETF would be the first U.S. fund fully tied to a liquid staking token.

VanEck Files to Launch ETF With Jito’s Liquid-Staked Solana Tokens

by admin August 23, 2025

In brief

  • VanEck filed on Friday a proposal for an exchange-traded fund tracking the price of JitoSOL.
  • The U.S. SEC earlier this month determined that liquid-staking tokens are not securities, clearing a path to putting them in ETF wrappers.
  • The filing comes as investor demand for staked crypto ETFs increases.

VanEck submitted an application to the U.S. Securities Exchange Commission for a JitoSOL exchange-traded fund, as investor interest in staked crypto ETFs continues to expand.

The ETF will track the price of JitoSOL, a kind of Solana liquid-staking token, or a tokenized asset that serves as a stand-in for an asset that has already been staked on a network.

Staking refers to the process of locking up cryptocurrencies on a blockchain to secure the network in exchange for rewards, usually in the form of tokens.

Today, @vaneck_us filed an S-1 for a @jito_sol ETF.

Why is this important?

A JitoSOL ETF offers the highest possible yield for investors, as 100% of the fund earns staking rewards with the lowest fees. The ETF can be created and redeemed in-kind, so redemptions can be…

— Thomas Uhm (@ThomasUhm) August 22, 2025

“With staff guidance now on record, the compliance runway for LST-based ETFs/ETPs is clear and actionable, and has resulted in the first ETF [composed] of LSTs,” the Jito Foundation said Friday in a blog post.

The JitoSOL fund marks the first proposed spot Solana ETF to receive 100% backing from a liquid-staking token, according to the Jito Foundation’s statement.

The filing comes as regulators have loosened their restrictions on the cryptocurrency, particularly when it comes to the classification of staking-based activities. In May and August, the SEC ruled that both protocol and liquid staking do not qualify as securities transactions—a determination that enables their inclusion in ETFs.

“That clarity opens a compliant path for ETF sponsors to use LSTs,” a Jito Foundation representative said in the post.

The Securities Commission also voted in July to green-light in-kind creations and redemptions for crypto ETFs.

This latest application from VanEck also comes just a few weeks after issuer REX-Osprey integrated staking rewards into its Solana ETF via a partnership with JitoSOL.

Solana was trading at $199 as of writing time, up nearly 10% in the past 24 hours, according to data provider CoinGecko.

VanEck Files to Launch Staked Solana (SOL) ETF Backed by Liquid Staking Token JitoSOL

by admin August 22, 2025

Asset manager VanEck has filed to launch a staked solana SOL$199.71 exchange-traded fund (ETF), signaling continued interest in bringing blockchain-native yield-bearing assets to traditional investment rails.

The application, submitted Friday as an S-1 registration with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), is the first of two filings required to list the fund. If approved, the ETF would hold JitoSOL, a liquid staking token native to the Solana blockchain. JitoSOL reflects ownership of SOL tokens that have been staked and also accrues the staking rewards earned by those tokens.

Unlike traditional ETFs, this product would not just track the price of SOL but also the income generated by staking — effectively baking Solana’s yield into a publicly traded product.

The SEC has been in ongoing discussions with ETF providers, including VanEck, about whether staking components can be integrated into existing and proposed crypto investment funds.

Regulatory bottlenecks

Speaking at an industry panel in Jackson Hole earlier this week, SEC Chair Paul Atkins said the Commission is looking to clear regulatory bottlenecks that slow innovation.

“There’s a lot of spring cleaning that needs to be done at the SEC,” he said. “We cannot have things so abstruse that lawyers can’t give opinions to clients.”

Atkins said the agency’s future rules should be flexible and designed to evolve. He added that the SEC wants to continue its legacy of adapting to new technologies, hinting at a more open stance toward crypto asset products like liquid staking ETFs.

VanEck joins a number of asset managers looking to launch a staked solana fund, including Fidelity, Grayscale and Franklin Templeton.

ETF Issuer Says XRP Is A Tactical Play For Institutional Investors, Here’s Why

by admin August 21, 2025

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

Institutional confidence in the cryptocurrency market is gaining new momentum, particularly with XRP, which is increasingly becoming a focal point for investors. A recent release by ETF issuer WisdomTree, now circulating across the social media platform X and amplified by crypto commentator SMQKE, is projecting XRP as a “tactical onshore play” for institutional portfolios.

The endorsement shows the growing sentiment that XRP is no longer just a speculative asset, with many fervent bullish proponents predicting a $1,000 price point in the near future.

XRP As A Tactical Onshore Play

According to ETF issuer WisdomTree, the unique advantage XRP now offers is its fully onshore accessibility through CME-listed futures. This eliminates the reliance on offshore venues that often expose investors to shallow liquidity and weaker regulatory oversight. In essence, the full onshore access of XRP makes it a viable gateway to consistent basis yield harvesting, especially valuable in fast-moving and volatile conditions in the crypto market.

Basically, recent crypto market dynamics have made it possible that institutional traders can directly access basis trading opportunities in XRP without leaving regulated markets, a development that makes the asset particularly attractive for large-scale portfolio managers.

However, many XRP proponents would argue that the cryptocurrency is yet to reach its full potential when it comes to being the tactical play for institutional investors. The most important thing right now is the launch of Spot XRP ETFs in the US market. A Spot XRP ETF would mirror the trajectory that Bitcoin followed in early 2024, when Spot ETF approvals by the SEC unleashed billions in inflows into the cryptocurrency.

Interestingly, the SEC has set a final deadline for deciding on several XRP-linked spot ETF applications by mid-October. For instance, the regulator must decide by October 18, 2025, whether to approve Grayscale’s request to convert its XRP Trust into a spot ETF. According to Eric Balchunas, a senior ETF analyst for Bloomberg, the odds of an XRP ETF hitting the US market soon are at 95%.

Bitcoin, Ether, And Solana As Institutional Benchmarks

The release by WisdomTree also looks at how different digital assets occupy particular roles among institutional investors. Bitcoin, through CME-listed futures, is the institutional “gold standard,” with the deepest liquidity and the most reliable structure for basis trading. According to the ETF issuer, Bitcoin CME futures are always trading at an annualized premium to spot, which makes them the cleanest in terms of scalability for yield harvesting.

On the other hand, Ether is the smart beta to Bitcoin’s benchmark, while Solana was described by WisdomTree as the high-octane yield enhancer. Solana, like XRP, is still in its early stage compared to Bitcoin and Ether among institutional investors, but with the potential for higher returns due to staking rewards boosting its basis trades. However, despite these other crypto heavyweights, WisdomTree proclaimed XRP as the best tactical onshore play.

Ether (ETH) Resurgence Gains Steam Driven by Spot ETF Demand and On-Chain Growth: Citi

by admin August 20, 2025

After enduring a drawdown of more than 55% earlier this year and lagging peers amid tariff-driven risk-off sentiment, ether (ETH) has staged a powerful comeback, Wall Street bank Citi (C) said in a research report on Tuesday.

The second-largest cryptocurrency is now up nearly 30% year-to-date, testing bitcoin’s (BTC) dominance in a way not seen since late last year. This time, however, ether is taking market share rather than ceding it, the report said.

Spot ether exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have seen a surge of demand. Cumulative net inflows now top $13 billion, up from just $2.6 billion in April, analysts Alex Saunders and Nathaniel Rupert wrote.

As ETF balances grow, flows are playing a more direct role in price dynamics, the analysts said.

Ether treasury firms have also joined the bid, with large purchases beginning in May. Their collective holdings now hover near $10 billion at current market values, while the equity valuations of these companies have expanded alongside ether’s rally, the report noted.

Blockchain data shows large wallets accumulating ether while smaller investors trim exposure. Ether balances on centralized exchanges continue to decline, signaling a shift of supply back on-chain. This dynamic could be amplifying the latest leg higher, creating a squeeze-like effect, the report added.

While the rally has been sharp, the bank’s analysts caution it isn’t purely technical. On-chain activity has picked up, reinforcing the move with stronger fundamentals. Combined with a macro backdrop that resembles a “goldilocks” environment, neither too hot nor too cold, ether’s resurgence could have legs, particularly with supportive regulatory signals and bullish narratives in play.

401(k) Crypto Retirement plans ‘bigger’ than Bitcoin ETF approval: analyst

401(k) Crypto Retirement plans ‘bigger’ than Bitcoin ETF approval: analyst

by admin August 19, 2025

The inclusion of cryptocurrency in US retirement plans could mark a milestone for Bitcoin adoption and unlock billions of dollars in new capital, potentially pushing the asset above $200,000 by the end of 2025, according to André Dragosch, the head of European research at crypto asset manager Bitwise.

President Donald Trump paved the way for cryptocurrency inclusion in US 401(k) retirement plans after signing an executive order on Aug. 7, granting Americans access to digital assets through their retirement plans.

The inclusion of crypto in 401(k) plans may be even more significant for the Bitcoin (BTC) price than the approval of the US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in January 2024, Dragosch said.

This “bullish” development may be even “bigger than the US Bitcoin ETF approval itself,” signaling another $122 billion worth of new capital, assuming a modest 1% portfolio allocation, Dragosch told Cointelegraph during the Chain Reaction daily X spaces show on Monday, throwing in a price prediction for good measure:

“The official prediction remains $200,000 by the end of the year.”

“If you look at 401(K) and defined-contribution retirement plans in the US, they are huge,” said Dragosch, adding that 1% is a “relatively conservative” allocation estimate for the $12.2 trillion industry.

Including digital assets in retirement plans will enable 401(k) portfolio managers to invest in Bitcoin ETFs, which may push Bitcoin’s price to new all-time highs, flashing another optimistic signal for Bitwise’s $200,000 Bitcoin price target for the end of 2025.

Fed policy, retirement plans seen as dual drivers

Based on Bitwise’s survey for financial advisers, most portfolio managers are more likely to recommend a 2.5% or 3% Bitcoin allocation for retirement plans, suggesting more significant inflows than the initial 1% allocation.

The first Bitcoin inflows from retirement plan managers may come as soon as this fall, coinciding with the first expected interest rate cut by the US Federal Reserve, which may drive Bitcoin to new highs, said Dragosch, adding:

“If you see further Fed rate cuts, there’s definitely a case for $200,000 by the end of the year.”

Markets are pricing in an 83% chance that the Fed will keep interest rates steady during the next Federal Open Market Committee meeting on Sept. 17, according to the latest estimates of the CME Group’s FedWatch tool.

Related: Analysts see Bitcoin buyer exhaustion as retail shifts to altcoins

Beyond improving monetary policy expectations, Bitcoin adoption may also be accelerated by the financial incentive of 401(k) plan providers to offer Bitcoin ETF exposure.

BlackRock, Fidelity and Vanguard are among the largest retirement plan providers in the US. While Vanguard has yet to “greenlight” crypto ETFs, “BlackRock and Fidelity have a huge economic incentive to include these Bitcoin ETFs in their standard plans,” said Dragosch.

BlackRock is the issuer of the largest Bitcoin ETF, the iShares Bitcoin Trust, with over $84 billion in assets under management, accounting for 57.5% of the total market share, while Fidelity’s ETF is the second-largest, holding  $22.4 billion, accounting for 15.3% of the total market share, Dune data shows.

Last Friday, US Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Paul Atkins confirmed that the regulatory agency is working with the Trump administration to enable retail investors’ retirement plan access to private equity, including crypto assets, but urged the necessity of “proper guardrails” around alternative investments.

Bitcoin steady at $115K as whales buy despite ETF outflows

by admin August 19, 2025

Bitcoin is holding near the $115,000 mark after a week of choppy price action, with exchange-traded fund outflows weighing on sentiment even as whale wallets quietly expand their holdings.

Summary

  • Bitcoin trades near $115,00, down 3% this week and 2.5% this month, sitting 7% below its all-time high.
  • ETF activity reversed with $121M in daily outflows.
  • Whales accumulated 20,000 BTC, adding to over 225,000 BTC since March, a trend often linked with price recovery.

Bitcoin (BTC) has slipped around 6% from its Aug. 14 all-time high, remaining 3% down in the past week. After a strong summer rally that propelled Bitcoin from the $97,000 range in late May to new highs in August, this pullback indicates a cooling market.

The market is still split over whether this is a healthy retracement within a larger uptrend or the beginning of a more significant correction.

ETF outflows weigh on sentiment, Ethereum dominates inflows

Data from SoSoValue shows U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs saw $121 million in net outflows on Aug. 18, pushing monthly outflows to nearly $140 million. This contrasts sharply with Ethereum (ETH), which has attracted a record $2.83 billion in inflows in the past month.

CoinShares’ Aug. 18 report confirms this divergence, with year-to-date Ethereum inflows now reaching $11 billion, compared to $5.3 billion for Bitcoin. According to the report, investor preferences have shifted in favor of ETH exposure, particularly as expectations surrounding staking approval for Ethereum ETFs grow.

Whales accumulate as BTC price dips

Santiment’s latest on-chain data shows that wallets with 10–10,000 BTC have added over 20,000 BTC since last week’s pullback, bringing their total accumulation to over 225,000 BTC since March. Because of the historical strong correlation between this group’s movements and the direction of future prices, there has been speculation that smart money may be preparing for another leg higher.

🐳🦈 Bitcoin's key whales & sharks are continuing to accumulate after the mild dip from last week's all-time high. With prices -6.22% since August 13th, wallets with 10-10K $BTC have accumulated 20,061 more coins.

When we zoom out, this same group of key stakeholders has added… pic.twitter.com/v6YNvyRk50

— Santiment (@santimentfeed) August 18, 2025

Market analyst Rekt Capital, on an Aug. 18 X post, noted that Bitcoin is at a point in the cycle where shallow retraces historically set the stage for strong upside. In both 2017 and 2021, quick pullbacks of 25–29% acted as technical resets before fresh rallies. A similar pattern now, provided $114,000 holds as support, could mark the foundation for a new price discovery phase.

Bitcoin technical analysis

Bitcoin is below the midline of its Bollinger Bands on the 4-hour chart, indicating that there is still downward pressure. The bands are starting to tighten, which is often a sign of larger movements. Nearing oversold territory at 38, the relative strength suggests that selling pressure may be waning.

Bitcoin 4-hour chart. Credit: crypto.news

The short-term EMAs (10–30) are leaning bearish, but the 50-, 100-, and 200-day moving averages still show signs of support for the overall trend. Oscillators also exhibit divergence. The momentum and MACD show sell signals, but the Bull-Bear Power points to a potential move back toward buyers.

If whales continue to accumulate and the $114,000 support holds, Bitcoin might rise back toward the $118,000–$120,000 range. A retest of the most recent all-time high of $124,000 might be feasible if volume confirms. The 100-day and 200-day moving averages, or about $110,000 and $103,000, are the next significant supports. Failure to defend $114,000 could lead to a more severe correction.

SEC Extends Review of Nine Crypto ETF Filings Into October

by admin August 19, 2025

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has pushed back decisions on a fresh round of cryptocurrency exchange-traded fund (ETF) proposals, leaving Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and XRP funds waiting until October for a verdict.

In notices filed on August 18, the regulator extended its review period for multiple applications, including the Truth Social Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF, spot Solana ETFs from 21Shares and Bitwise, and the 21Shares Core XRP Trust.

The new decision dates now fall on October 8 for the Truth Social ETF, October 16 for the Solana filings, and October 19 for the XRP trust.

The Truth Social Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF, first submitted on June 24, is structured as a commodity-based trust that directly holds Bitcoin and Ether. Shares of the fund would be backed by the underlying assets.

Despite its branding under Donald Trump’s Truth Social platform, the product is designed to function in the same way as other spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs already approved in the United States.

The Cboe BZX exchange is also seeking approval for the first spot Solana ETFs in the country, filed separately by 21Shares and Bitwise. These funds would give institutional and retail investors regulated access to Solana’s price movements.

In addition, 21Shares has applied for a Core XRP Trust, a product designed to hold XRP and mirror its market value. The application, initially filed in February, was approaching its 180-day deadline before the SEC extended its review by another 60 days.

Beyond these products, the SEC also pushed back rulings on other crypto-linked filings, including CoinShares’ proposed spot Litecoin ETF and Grayscale’s application for a spot Dogecoin ETF. The regulator has delayed a total of nine applications, with most of the new deadlines set for October.

Bloomberg ETF analysts Eric Balchunas and James Seyffart said the delays appear to reflect the SEC’s broader strategy of developing a framework for digital asset ETFs rather than continuing with the current case-by-case approval system.

Seyffart suggested that the commission is working on creating clear listing standards that would define which digital assets can be wrapped into ETFs and under what criteria.

The approach could provide greater consistency for the growing number of crypto ETF applications, but in the meantime, issuers and investors will have to wait longer for clarity.

SEC Punts on Trump Media Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF Decision, Plus XRP and Dogecoin Funds

by admin August 19, 2025

In brief

  • The SEC will decide on the Truth Social Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF on October 8, likely after a rules change request from two exchanges that could shorten approval processes.
  • The agency delayed decisions on XRP funds from Grayscale, Bitwise, CoinShares, Canary Capital, and 21Shares.
  • It also pushed back deadlines on separate Dogecoin and Litecoin ETFs, and a proposal to add staking to an existing spot Ethereum ETF.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has delayed its decisions on an exchange-traded fund proposed by Donald Trump’s media and technology company to track the performance of Bitcoin and Ethereum and seven other ETFs based on single digital assets.

In a filing Monday, the regulator said that it moved its deadline back 45 days for weighing in on the Truth Social Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF to October 8.

It announced identical delays for applications filed for spot XRP funds by Grayscale, CoinShares, Canary Capital, Bitwise and 21Shares, a spot Dogecoin ETF from Grayscale, and a spot Litecoin product from CoinShares, although the dates for potential approvals of those funds vary.

It also held up resolving a request to add staking to the the 21Shares Core Ethereum ETF, which tracks the price of the second-largest cryptocurrency by market value.

The delays comes four days after the agency delayed decisions on Solana ETFs from Bitwise, 21Shares, and VanEck, and a Dogecoin fund from 21Shares.

The SEC is weighing a wave of proposals tracking cryptocurrencies. Those submissions have resulted from the dramatic success of 11 spot Bitcoin and nine Ethereum ETFs, a more favorable political environment for cryptocurrencies ushered in by the Trump administration, and growing interest by traditional finance giants who were formerly resistant to the asset.

The filings also follow roughly three weeks after two major U.S. exchanges asked the SEC to approve amendments that could significantly shorten the approval process for future crypto exchange-traded funds, automatically listing certain products without requiring case-by-case filings.

In separate filings, Cboe BZX and NYSE Arca requested changes to their listing standards that would allow certain crypto ETFs to be listed without enduring the SEC’s rigorous evaluation under Rule 19b-4, a process that requires exchanges to submit proposed rule changes. Under current guidelines, such reviews of proposed changes to funds could take 240 days.

Bloomberg Senior ETF Analyst Eric Balchunas told Decrypt that the SEC’s filings Monday were “nothing significant,” and were likely timed to follow a probable SEC green light of Cboe and NYSE’s amendments next month following the conclusion of a comments period.

“Even though it feels like ‘Isn’t this SEC supposed to approve all this stuff?’, the listing standards are out for comment,” Balchunas said. “So just in the nick of time, these listing standards should be approved. And then we’re anticipating a batch of approvals based on the listing standard starting in October.”

“So this delay feels discouraging, but it’s just a little more patience,” he added. “It’ll all happen soon.”
