Asus heard you like screens, so it put a curved ‘3D effect’ OLED screen on your CPU water cooler

ROG Ryuo IV Series ASUS InfoHub Control Guide – YouTube

Watch On

We’ve seen CPU coolers with screens before. We’ve seen CPU coolers with OLED screens before. We’ve seen CPU coolers with curved OLED screens before. We’ve even seen CPU coolers with curved, motorised OLED screens before. But have we seen a CPU cooler with a curved, movable 3D-effect OLED screen before? No, sir, we have not. Until today.

Give it up for the ROG Ryuo IV 360 ARGB water cooler, the ultimate checkbox exercise in CPU cooling, announced today at Gamescom. Its finely triangulated USP is a movable curved 6.67-inch AMOLED display that supports “3D-effect videos or customized system information”.

Asus says, “a powerful pump delivers robust cooling performance, higher flow, and lower impedance, while the pre-mounted, daisy-chained ARGB fans provide high airflow and static pressure. Its fans have a low-noise design and feature front and side lighting.”

Related articles

The cooler supports LGA 1851, 1700, AMD AM5, and AM4 CPU sockets, and features 400mm tubing for better chassis compatibility. There’s also software with support for hardware monitoring and screen content management. Oh, and there’s a white version, too, that’s otherwise identical.

Getting back to that “3D effect” thing, our understanding is that is doesn’t mean some kind of lenticular 3D, as per the Acer Predator SpatialLabs View 27 we recently reviewed. Instead, we’re talking 3D effect as in those videos that use borders and lines to frame movement, plus extreme perspective and a bit of blur. Like this demo video.

Asus doesn’t provide a specific resolution for the display, only describing it at “2K”. But that probably means 1,920 by 1,080, or something very close to that. By default, it can either display one of a number of preloaded 3D effect visuals or a user-configurable suite of hard info, such as CPU temps, fan speeds, voltages, clockspeeds and all that good stuff.

You can also splitscreen the display, so that part of it is showing hardware info, the other trick visuals. And as you can see above, the “3Dness” does actually kinda work.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

As for the “movable” bit, the OLED screen is on a slider. So now you know. For the record, the radiator measures 394 by 140 by 32 mm and sports three front-and-side lit 120 mm fans. That setup delivers a rated airflow of 71.44 CFM at a noise level of 39.6 dB(A). The cooler module has a six year warranty, while the screen is covered for two years.

Finally and on the sordid matter of money, this was never gonna be cheap. US pricing hasn’t emerged, but it’s available in the UK for £322, which implies something in the region of $350. Ouch. But then if you want screens on everything, it’s going to cost you.

The Battlefield X Mass Effect Crossover Gives Me The Ick

by admin June 18, 2025

Image: Electronic Arts

Electronic Arts and its stable of studios are no strangers to crossovers, especially ones that see its own properties making the leap to other EA games. Apex Legends has Plants vs. Zombies cosmetics, Dragon Age has a set of Dead Space armor, and The Sims got more crossovers than I can rattle off in a sentence of reasonable length. Today, Battlefield 2042 is releasing a new set of cosmetics based on BioWare’s Mass Effect series, and while under normal circumstances I wouldn’t bat an eye at this cross-promotion, given that EA just gutted the RPG developer with a massive restructuring, I find it gross to see the company trying to profit on people’s love of the sci-fi franchise before the dust has even settled.

The Week In Games: What’s Coming Out Beyond Madden NFL 24

From June 17 to July 1, Battlefield 2042 is offering Mass Effect-themed bundles that include armor and weapon sets based on the iconic N7 armor from the sci-fi RPGs. Here’s the rundown from the patch notes:

  • Galactic Bundle – 1750 BFC: Centuries from now and in the farthest reaches of space, a good soldier still makes all the difference. Take command and carve your legacy into the stars.
  • Scoped & Dropped Bundle – 2000 BFC: Whether you’re tearing across the battlefield or shooting bottles with an old friend, you need the best gear in the galaxy to do the job right.
  • Citadel Bundle – 3000 BFC: For those who take the fight to the farthest reaches of space, a special package containing all cosmetics for the Mass Effect crossover event.

It’s entirely possible this crossover was in the works long before January, when EA laid off a ton of the foundational talent at BioWare in an effort to be more “agile” and “focused.” It’s also very likely these Mass Effect cosmetics were in the pipeline long before Bloomberg posted its recent story on the development of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which outlined the ways EA jerked the studio around for a decade until the game finally launched in 2024. But my god, the optics of profiting off the iconography of a beloved series of a studio you just eviscerated are pretty terrible. What could have been a pretty innocent crossover now looks like a cynical cash grab, dangling the remains of a studio you’ve spent years stripping for parts in front of players.

Those who are still at BioWare are working on a fifth Mass Effect. As for Dragon Age, at the very least The Veilguard exists as the studio’s “final word” on its fantasy world before it was hit by layoffs earlier this year.

Star Trek Beyond writer Doug Jung announced as showrunner for Amazon’s Mass Effect series

by admin June 9, 2025

Star Trek Beyond writer Doug Jung has been appointed showrunner of Amazon Prime’s Mass Effect adaptation.

As reported by Deadline, Jung will also serve as executive producer on the project. Jung is currently executive producer and showrunner of Apple TV+’s Chief of War. He also has credits on series including Mindhunter, Banshee, and Big Love.

Jung will join writer Dan Casey, who is also an executive producer on the project. Electronic Arts’ Michael Gamble, Cedar Tree Productions’ Karim Zreik, and Arad Productions’ Ari Arad and Emmy Tu will also produce.

Amazon’s Mass Effect adaptation was greenlit last November, when Casey’s involvement was also announced.

The streaming platform has found major success with its adaptation of the Fallout franchise, with its second season premiering later this year. It has also been renewed for a third season.

Star Trek Beyond co-writer joins Mass Effect TV series as a showrunner

by admin June 9, 2025

Things are picking up on the Mass Effect TV series. Over the weekend, it was announced that Doug Jung – known for his work on the upcoming Chief of War and as a co-writer for Star Trek Beyond – has joined Amazon’s Mass Effect TV series as a showrunner.

As reported by Deadline, Jung will executive produce the upcoming show with writer Dan Casey. They will be working alongside Michael Gamble from EA, Karim Zreik of Cedar Tree Productions via its overall deal at Amazon, as well as Ari Arad (Uncharted, Borderlands) and Emmy Yu of Arad Productions.

Casey has been writing the Mass Effect TV show for “almost a year”, the publication noted. Amazon officially announced a Mass Effect TV show was in development in November last year, when Casey’s involvement was initially confirmed.

While we don’t know any casting details at the present time, fem Shep actress Jennifer Hale previously told Eurogamer she would love to be part of the Mass Effect series, and believes the original cast should be involved as well. Meanwhile, once upon a time Henry Cavill said he would “love” to be a part of a Mass Effect TV adaptation, however following his time in The Witcher the actor has now been snapped up for Amazon’s Warhammer shenanigans.

As for the world of video games themselves, Mass Effect 5 has been announced, but lacks a release date and appears to still be several years away.

In October, project director Michael Gamble said Mass Effect 5 will not seek to tweak the sci-fi franchise’s established visual style. This is something developer BioWare did with its recent release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

‘The Expanse’ Does a ‘Mass Effect’ With New Game ‘Osiris Reborn’

by admin June 9, 2025

Prime Video’s The Expanse ended a few years ago, but the sci-fi franchise hasn’t completely gone away. During Saturday’s Future Games Show, viewers were treated to the reveal of Osiris Reborn, a new video game.

Developed by Owlcat Games and set during the show’s first two and a half seasons (and featuring some returning cast members reprising their TV roles), Osiris puts players in the boots of a Pinkwater mercenary enjoying shore leave on Eros Station. After things go to hell, the merc gets caught up takes a ship and puts a team together to uncover a system-wide conspiracy. Your merc, or the Captain, has three backgrounds to choose from (Earther, Martian, or Belter), different abilities depending on their class, and is playable in a third-person perspective while issuing squad commands to two teammates in combat. Sound familiar?

Yeah, Osiris Reborn sounds pretty Mass Effect, something design producer Yuliya Chernenko admitted in an IGN interview. Much of the Owlcat team first played BioWare’s RPG franchise when they were young, and it “left a lasting impression. We’re building on that legacy and expanding what players on what players anticipate from this experience.”

Despite the comparisons, creative director Alexander Mishulin went on to stress this would be would be an Owlcat title through and through, with “more choices and…more focused on a modern approach where you can make your own playstyle, make your own experience through the game.” He considers The Expense a “perfect universe” to bring the studio’s ideas for a sci-fi action-RPG to life, calling its world “grounded in realism and complexity, perfect for telling a story how we like — mature and character-driven, where your choices truly matter.”

If this sounds cool to you, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is “coming soon” to PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S.

The Long-Awaited ‘Mass Effect’ Show Has a Showrunner Now

by admin June 8, 2025

Prime Video’s upcoming Mass Effect show is progressing slowly, but surely. On Friday, Deadline revealed the live-action series gained Doug Jung as its showrunner.

Jung, who most may remember as the co-writer for 2016’s Star Trek Beyond, recently ended a showrunner/executive producer stint for Apple TV+’s Chief of War. He’ll be working alongside writer Dan Casey, and both will EP for the series alongside franchise producer Mike Gamble. As Deadline notes, this is a “major step forward” in the show’s development, which was first teased all the way back in 2021, then had its existence reaffirmed back in 2024.

To date, Prime Video’s kept mum on what exactly Casey’s pitch was for the Mass Effect show. Among fans, the general thinking is that it’ll just adapt the initial trilogy of Commander Shepard gathering allies to fight the Reapers. (This also seemed to be the plan when a movie seemed likely back in 2007 after the first game came out.) But shows like Castlevania and Prime Video’s own Fallout have taken a different approach that tells an original story inside the worlds of those series. (Fallout in particular carries itself like a Fallout 5 we’re getting to watch but not play.) Others, like Tomb Raider and Dragon Age, continued (or hoped to) the stories of the games they’re based on.

There’s certainly different routes for the Mass Effect series to take, and we’ll be interested to learn Jung and Casey’s approach in due time.

Why is crypto market down today? Trump-Musk fallout effect

by admin June 6, 2025

The crypto market slid sharply on Friday, June 6, shedding 5% over the past 24 hours as rising political tensions between President Donald Trump and Elon Musk sent investor confidence tumbling.

The total crypto market capitalization now stands at $3.29 trillion, down from around $4.1 trillion on June 5. According to data from Alternative, the Crypto Fear & Greed Index dropped 12 points, from 57 to 45, marking a move into “fear” territory. This decline in sentiment follows a public clash between Trump and Musk that has also weighed heavily on traditional markets.

Bitcoin (BTC) is down 3.1% and trading at $101,843 at press time. Ethereum (ETH) leads the top 10 altcoin losses with a 7.5% slide, while Solana (SOL), XRP (XRP), and BNB (BNB) each slid about 5%. Nearly $986 million in cryptocurrency positions were liquidated in the last day, according to Coinglass data, a 358% increase.

The crypto market relative strength index dropped to 32.7, indicating oversold conditions, and open interest dropped 2.71% to $140 billion.

The market reaction followed a series of political escalations. The fallout started when Musk resigned from the Department of Government Efficiency and publicly criticized the President’s recent spending bill, dubbed the Big Beautiful Bill.

In response, Trump revoked Jared Isaacman’s NASA nomination, a close associate of Musk, and threatened to completely cut off government contracts for businesses run by Musk.

The feud intensified on June 5 after Musk accused Trump of being connected to the Jeffrey Epstein files and supported calls for his impeachment. Trump, in turn, declared that Musk had “gone crazy.” As tensions rose, Tesla shares plunged more than 14%, and Musk announced SpaceX would begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft.

Dogecoin (DOGE) suffered the sharpest decline among major tokens, plummeting nearly 20% in the past 24 hours. While DOGE lacks intrinsic utility, its price has long been sensitive to Musk’s actions and statements. The token had rallied following Trump’s election win, amid hopes of crypto-friendly policies. However, investors seem to be pulling back as that optimism wanes.

Alongside digital assets, cryptocurrency-related stocks also suffered. Mining companies MARA, Riot Platforms, and Core Scientific all saw losses of about 5%, while Coinbase fell 4.6% and Strategy fell 2.4%.

Meanwhile, political uncertainty continues to attract the interest of the crypto community. Traders currently assign a 10% probability that Trump will be impeached before the end of 2025 on the decentralized prediction platform Polymarket. So far, almost half a million dollars has been wagered on that outcome.

Market volatility may persist in the coming days as macro risks increase and sentiment toward cryptocurrencies declines.

Asus ROG Falchion Ace HFX Review: Hall Effect With New Tricks

by admin June 5, 2025

Every gaming keyboard manufacturer seems to be jumping on the Hall effect bandwagon, and why wouldn’t they? The keyboard technology has been proven in both esports arenas and home office setups worldwide and offers countless advantages over standard mechanical keyboards, with no real performance compromises.

Hall effect keyboards have also arrived as countless other technologies enter the keyboard space: Everything from gasket-mounting to touchpads is now in mainstream keyboards. That also means I regularly see new products, mechanical and Hall effect, with features I’ve never even considered before. Case in point, the Asus ROG Falchion Ace HFX, a small keyboard with a large name and a lot of unusual features.

This $200 wired-only keyboard has Hall effect switches, an 8,000-Hz polling rate, multidevice connectivity with two USB-C ports, and a programmable touchpad on the back edge. Not to mention countless on-keyboard controls and a flipable lever to enable or disable the rapid trigger feature found on most Hall effect keyboards. While it does have some strange design decisions, it has a lot of really clever ones too.

Unique Switches

The Falchion has one of the deepest typing sounds compared to other Hall effect keyboards. This is likely a combination of the keyboard’s unique HFX magnetic switches, one of the few I’ve tested that aren’t made by Gateron, and the sound dampening inside. It consists of multiple layers of foam, Poron, and silicone, and a sheet of small rubber domes.

The switches feel incredibly smooth, even when pressed slowly, with a consistent feel throughout the entire keypress. They use a polycarbonate top housing, a POM stem, and a POM bottom housing, contributing to the deeper typing sound and ensuring smoothness across the entire keystroke. Unlike most Hall effect switches, the HFX doesn’t have a hole in the center, instead, it moves the magnet to the front, where the metal contact leaf would typically be on a mechanical switch. This makes the Falchion incompatible with standard Hall effect switches, but likely improves the sound profile as well: Open-bottom switches tend to have a more hollow typing sound, which can be heard on competitors.

The springs are weighted to 55 grams of total force, which is 5 grams lighter than the Gateron Nebula dual-rail switches used by Keychron, and 10 grams lighter than the standard Cherry MX Red. There aren’t any other switches available for this keyboard, but because Hall effect switches are contactless, the existing switches can be removed without any desoldering or extensive disassembly.

I didn’t find myself wanting to change the switches, though—they have a poppy and deep sound that’s incredibly crisp, and they feel responsive and smooth, especially with rapid trigger enabled. My largest issue with the typing experience was the keycaps. They have a rough texture that, while grippy, felt noticeably coarse and unpleasant when typing. It comes down to preference, but I found them less enjoyable than smooth or lightly textured keycaps.

Elden Ring Nightreign: Every Status Effect, Explained

by admin May 30, 2025

Image: FromSoftware

Elden Ring Nighreign is a challenging game that’ll keep you and your friends on your toes during every tense run across its dangerous map. But in addition to punishing enemies and deadly traps, you’ll also need to be aware of status effects, which can do quite a lot to disrupt your progress. Below, we’ll give you a rundown of each status effect and how you can heal it, so that you can prepare for what lies ahead.

The Most Sought After Elden Ring Sword Has A Storied History

All status effects in Elden Ring: Nightreign and how to cure them

There are seven status effects you’ll need to keep an eye out for in Elden Ring Nightreign. But luckily, there are ways to reduce your buildup of the effects or cure them if you’re already affected.

  • Poison: When affected by Poison, your character takes constant moderate damage. Use Neutralizing Boluses to alleviate the buildup of this status effect.
  • Scarlet Rot: When affected by Scarlet Rot, your character takes constant heavy damage. Use Preserving Boluses to alleviate the buildup of this status effect.
  • Blood Loss: When affected by Blood Loss (frequently called Bleed), your character receives a chunk of damage proportional to your total HP. Use Stanching Boluses to alleviate the buildup of this status effect.
  • Frostbite: When affected by Frostbite, your character takes increased damage for a period. Use Thawfrost Boluses to alleviate the buildup of this status effect.
  • Sleep: When affected by Sleep, your character does exactly as you’d expect and falls asleep, rendering you defenseless for a bit. Use Stimulating Boluses to alleviate the buildup of this status effect.
  • Madness: When affected by Madness, your character takes significant damage to both HP and FP. Use Clarifying Boluses to alleviate the buildup of this status effect.
  • Death Blight: When affected by Death Blight, your character will immediately die. Shit. Use Rejuvenating Boluses to alleviate the buildup of this status effect.

Try not to get caught without the necessary items needed to keep yourself healthy out there. But hey, even if you die, you can always jump right back in for another run, so it’s not that big of a deal.

If you think you can stomach all these status effects, check out Elden Ring Nightreign now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PCs.
