Hollow Knight: Silksong’s first patch will make the early game easier

Team Cherry has revealed details of Hollow Knight: Silksong’s first patch, which will make the early game a little easier.


That will be welcome news to those playing the game, as it’s proven to be extremely challenging. And not just for its trick bench.


In particular, a couple of early bosses will have “slight difficulty reduction”, on top of other enemies receiving damage reduction, and some increases in rosary rewards.

The patch is available now for Steam players via the public-beta branch on Steam or GOG, and will be available for all players across all platforms “mid next week”.


The full patch notes, as shared on Steam, are below:

  • Fixed situation where players could remain cloakless after Slab escape sequence.
  • Fixed wish Infestation Operation often not being completable during the late game.
  • Fixed wish Beast in the Bells not being completable when Bell Beast is summoned at the Bilewater Bellway during the late game.

The market dominance of Ethereum should not be forgotten as the market-wide recovery affects SHIB and XRP, which are rallying forward and might see a bullish rally continuation starting from Sept. 10. Despite our previous gloomy market review, the overall state of the industry is becoming healthier.

At a time when many altcoins are still having difficulties, Ethereum (ETH) has once again reminded the market of its dominance and resilience. The fact that ETH, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, has recovered well from recent declines and is currently trading at about $4,372 shows that it still has the strength to influence overall market trends.

Following its ascent above the crucial $4,000 support zone, ETH steadied itself within a narrow range without ever displaying signs of weakness. By acting as a dependable floor and deterring bears, the 50-day EMA at $4,168 has offered a solid technical foundation for a recovery. Now that ETH is maintaining a strong hold above this level, traders are paying closer attention to a potential trend reversal that might push the token back toward the $4,600-$4,800 resistance zone.

Ethereum’s ability to hold its ground while Bitcoin consolidates is what makes this most recent move noteworthy. With ETH potentially leading the next bullish wave instead of just following BTC, this decoupling suggests a change in the market’s structure. This view is supported by the RSI, which is currently at 52, indicating that Ethereum has recovered from overbought conditions while still having a lot of room to rise.

Volume has stabilized, indicating steady participation without speculative blow-offs, despite not being as explosive as it was during the rally in July. This stability is crucial because Ethereum has the technical basis to stage another leg higher if inflows of new capital resume.

Ethereum’s recent performance is a reminder of its dominance on the cryptocurrency market. It is evident that the asset is far from depleted when it maintains above $4,000 and defends its moving averages. ETH may be the first significant altcoin to signal a significant market-wide reversal if the current momentum continues, reaffirming its position as the leader in price action and innovation in the digital asset space.

XRP takes its shot

XRP is pushing above $3.00 after recovering from the $2.77 support zone, indicating that it is once again showing signs of strength. This move appears promising at first glance, particularly given that the asset has tested and remained above important short-term moving averages.

However, given the state of the market, investors should exercise caution because what appears to be the beginning of a breakout could still be a dead cat bounce. From July highs around $3.80, the chart shows a distinct descending resistance line, which XRP is currently reapproaching. A stronger bullish case would be confirmed by breaking through, but history demonstrates that such levels frequently serve as a trap for eager buyers.

A quick retracement and another rejection could result from failing to maintain momentum at this point. The 50-day EMA at $3.07 is a potential immediate resistance level that heightens the caution. It is probable that sellers will reenter the market if XRP does not close significantly above it. A break below the 200-day EMA at $2.53 would turn the structure bearish once more, with the 100-day EMA at $2.78 serving as crucial support.

Momentum indicators lend credence to this cautious perspective. The RSI is at 55, slowly rising but not yet displaying a strong sense of bullishness. The current rally may not have the depth required for a long-lasting trend reversal, as evidenced by the muted volume, in contrast to the explosive rallies earlier this summer.

Even though XRP’s rise above $3.00 is positive, it is still much too soon to rejoice. Before announcing a win, traders should prepare for the possibility of rejection and revocation. The current move runs the risk of being little more than a brief bounce unless XRP can break its descending trendline with significant volume.

Shiba Inu speeds up

Following its breakout from a consolidation pattern, Shiba Inu’s rally is evidently picking up speed. After soaring past the $0.00001287-$0.00001297 resistance cluster created by the short-term moving averages, the token is now trading close to $0.00001307. Bulls now feel more confident, and the technical setup of SHIB has received more attention as a result of this breakout. SHIB appears well-positioned for future gains at its current levels. 

The next significant test is the 200-day EMA at $0.00001386; a strong breakout above it might push the rally further toward the $0.00001500-$0.00001600 region, which was last observed in mid-August. Momentum indicators lend credence to this optimistic outlook: the RSI has increased to 55, indicating increasing buying interest without yet displaying overbought conditions. Additionally, the volume has increased, confirming that this rally has real momentum.

The longer-term structure has not changed much despite the short-term outlook appearing solid. SHIB is still trading well below the $0.00002000 levels, which marked the end of the summer rally, and the asset is still threatened by the larger downtrend that started following the 2021 highs. Though encouraging, the current breakout does not yet signify a significant change in Shiba Inu’s macro outlook.

The 200 EMA, which frequently serves as a major barrier, is another area where investors should be wary of possible volatility. If Shiba Inu does not make a strong push, there may be a retracement back toward the support level of $0.00001280. There is a strong technical setup for short-term traders to keep an eye on, and Shiba Inu’s bullish rally is accelerating at the current levels.

The current state of the market expresses some hope for bulls as multiple assets are showing signs of accumulation and might provide us with grounds for recovery sooner than anticipated. Risks of a bearish reversal are still there, though.

Jump Space devs outline a bevy of early access roadmap updates and an easy-on-your-wallet price point

Jump Space! It’s a game with a name that’ll have you thinking, “wait, that’s not what it was called, was it?” And you’d be right about that, as due to some trademark problems, the game was rebranded from Jump Ship to its new name Jump Space back in August. Later that same month, developer Keepsake Games announced the game would be launching into early access September 19th. And now, as in today September 9th now, Keepsake Games have shared an early access roadmap for the game, as well as how much it’ll cost you.


Right, let’s get the pricing out of the way. It’ll be a pretty reasonable $19.99 / £16.75 / €19.50, making it the latest anticipated September release to be priced in a way that’ll have you wondering why they’re not charging more. On to the roadmap!


At launch, the sci-fi shooter will include nine mission types. These include one where you’ll try not to kick the bucket while fending off a bunch of robots, where you have to hunt for loot, and another where you’ll be raiding some baddies’ bases. There’ll be more than 50 sectors to play in four galaxy regions, and you’ll have two ships to choose from with 26 ship components to make them a bit more custom.


That’s all a part of Chapter 1, The Resistance Coalition. Chapter 2: Atira Strikes back will bring a lot more to the game like multiple endless modes, sector modifiers, melee weapons, more story and sectors, new enemies, mission types, a photo mode, offline support and a lot more. These will be coming through multiple updates through to Q1, 2026, but a couple of features from this chapter, text chat and lobby browser, will be available at launch.


Then after that, Chapter 3: Secrets of the Telmari will add in a first-person pilot view, a scanner revamp, even more new enemies and mission types, a new ship, ground boss, and again, even more. These will start to be added from Q1 2026 onwards until Chapter 4: Heart of Corruption, which doesn’t have a release window or any revealed features just yet. That’s a lot of bloody stuff!


As of now, Keepsake doesn’t know when early access will end and the 1.0 release will release, so you’ll just have to join them for the ride in the meantime.

Video game difficulty is a real balancing act. You want to be challenged and earn each new level, but when it’s too hard there’s more frustration than fun. Apparently, a number of players have found the new Hollow Knight: Silksong game a bit too hard, struggling to defeat some of the bosses.

Now, Team Cherry, the indie studio behind the Hollow Knight series, is making things a bit easier. Team Cherry has announced Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s first patch, which includes a “slight difficulty reduction in early game bosses.” This update includes the bosses Moorwing and Sister Splinter.

Otherwise, the patch mostly includes bug fixes, such as gamers remaining cloakless or getting stuck floating. It also brings an increase in rosary rewards from relics and psalm cylinders, as well as for courier deliveries. These retroactive updates should come by mid next week, but eager players can join the public-beta to get the fix. Team Cherry notes that its already working on more fixes in a second patch.

The long awaited sequel to Hollow Knight finally launched on September 4, with eager fans crashing Steam, the Nintendo eshop and the Xbox Store. It’s available now for $20.

It’s been a few days now since the launch of Hollow Knight: Silksong and a few issues are starting to bubble up. One of the most significant complaints has been about the game’s level of difficulty.

The original Hollow Knight is/has always been a challenging game, so it’s not exactly a surprise that its DLC-turned-sequel is giving many players trouble. This time, however, it does appear that developer Team Cherry may have overtuned things in the new game.

Silksong is certainly not an easy game overall, but the early parts have been particularly frustrating for some players. It doesn’t help that the Metroidvania doesn’t offer much in the way of accessibility options, which resulted in the creation of a number of mods that tweak various aspects of the game’s level of difficulty.

While Team Cherry hasn’t quite commented on the discourse surrounding Silksong’s challenging combat, the developer has announced that it’s going to be making some balance changes.

In a post on Steam, the team revealed the patch notes for update 1.0.28470, which is currently planned for release by the middle of next week on all platforms. The patch is primarily intended to fix bugs, but it’s also going to introduce “slight” balance changes to the early game.

As revealed in the patch notes, you can expect early game bosses Moorwing and Sister Splinter to be a little easier. The damage Sandcarvers do has been reduced, too. You’ll also notice some tweaks to the economy, with a small reduction to the prices of mid-game Bellway and Bell Bench, a small boost to rosary rewards from relics and psalm cylinders, as well as another boost to rosary rewards for courier deliveries.

The notes for Hollow Knight: Silksong’s first proper post-release patch have arrived. Team Cherry have been busy fixing bugs and making some “slight balance adjustments in the early game”, which you can now give a go early via beta branches on Steam and GOG.

That’ll mean you’re testing the changes ahead of the update’s planned full deployment next week, with Team Cherry aiming for a mid-week arrival “barring any unforeseen issues”. Now you know that, let’s get into the changes, which the studio have outlined in a post on the Steamy platform.

First of all, the bit that might prove controversial among hardened Skongers. As part of those early game balance tweaks, Team Cherry have opted to roll out a “slight difficulty reduction” for the boss fights against Moorwing and Sister Splinter. How you feel about that will likely depend on whether you’ve spent the past few days yelling at folks for seeking out mods or guides to help make their path through the metroidvania a bit less stressful.

Outside of that, the balancing’s also seen Sandcarvers have their damage reduced, plus increases in the rosary rewards dished out by relics, psalm cylinders, and courier deliveries. The prices of bellways and bell benches you run into around the game’s midway point have also dropped a bit. Oh, and there’s been a “slight increase in pea pod collider scale”.

That’s it for the balancing, with the rest being bug fixes for problems like “getting stuck floating after down-bouncing on certain projectiles”, “courier deliveries sometimes being inaccessible in Act 3”, and that “situation where players could remain cloakless after Slab escape sequence” I mentioned in the strap. No prolonged Hornet nudeness for the horn-dogs. Well, coatlessness really, but either way she might have gotten a bit cold, so an important fix.

I’ll list the rest of the fixes below, so you can scan through to see if anything you’ve run into crops up:

First Silksong update patch notes will finally reduce early difficulty

Team Cherry has revealed the patch notes for the first Hollow Knight: Silksong update, which looks to make the early game slightly easier, although it doesn’t completely remove the difficulty.

After finally launching on September 4, Silksong has already become one of 2025’s biggest games. Less than a week later, its player count has reached over five million, and it even crashed many platforms as players all try to download it at once.

It hasn’t all been good news, though, as some fans have complained about the punishing difficulty, with some even using mods to make it easier.

Now, the 1.0.28470 update has been revealed, and while it’s set to address some of the issues, don’t expect the game to be a breeze once it goes live.

Do we know when the 1.0.28470 update goes live?

There is no concrete date just yet, but the devs have confirmed it will be mid-next week if everything goes as planned. This means it will likely be rolled around sometime around September 17, although it could be slightly earlier or later.

Although the patch is primarily focused on squashing bugs (no pun intended), it also addresses some of the more brutal early bosses.

Both Moorwing and Sister Splinter will receive a “slight difficulty reduction” going forward. It isn’t entirely clear how the devs will go about this, but it could mean that they will no longer deal two masks of damage per hit, or it could be as simple as making their attacks easier to dodge.

Given that it’s only listed as a “slight” tweak, it’s more likely to be the latter or something similar.

Silksong Fans Furiously Debate If It’s Too Hard As Some Early Players Quit

Fans have been waiting almost a decade to go hands-on with Hollow Knight: Silksong and the hype was off the charts. Now that people are finally playing, those expectations have been brought back down to earth. Silksong is a good game. Maybe even a great one. But it is also a hard one. Harder than the first game? That depends on who you ask. While players rave about their favorite new characters, secrets, and boss fights, other are bouncing off the game, feeling unwelcomed by the new Metroidvania Soulslike.

One of the biggest differences between Silksong and the original Hollow Knight is that enemies hit harder earlier in the game. Instead of taking one mask of damage off Hornet, even some rank-and-file minions can knock two off with each hit. Add to that the fact that Hornet can’t heal until a full wheel of silk has been earned and you have a recipe for an uncompromising early game. Maps and UI elements must also be purchased as upgrades, leaving newcomers who tend to easily get lost in 2D mazes scrambling more than usual to figure out where to go and what to do.

“My wife is a massive Hollow Knight fan and has been waiting for Silksong to come out for years,” reads one of the biggest threads on the Silksong subreddit from this weekend. “She is not the most skilled of players but she was able to complete Hollow Knight and enjoy her time. Silksong, instead, is breaking her apart. She has spent three days fighting Moorwing without beating it and she’s dropping the game for good. I hope she’ll pick it back up sometime but it’s sad to see all the anticipation die out like this.”

Moorwing has been brutalizing many players in the Greymoor section of the game. The flying moth has lots of attacks that are tricky to dodge, and it requires a shocking number of hits to finally bring down. There are ways to accidentally skip the fight altogether or cheese him into submission, but if you’re just grinding Silksong out without searching for guides or trying to exploit tricks, it’s a pain in the ass, one of those fights for true Soulslike sickos and not necessarily for the people who come to Hollow Knight for the worldbuilding, exploration, and wonderful characters.

Is Silksong really harder than Hollow Knight?

There’s a good comment on the Silksong Steam discussion page that breaks down some of what might be going on with the initial reaction to the sequel. “People are complaining because this game doesn’t give them nail upgrades and an early charm system with charms that trivialize a lot of boss mechanics for 3/4th of the entire game, and instead attempts to get its players to recognize tells, queues, patterns, positioning, and programmed it’s enemies to specifically punish overly aggressive or greedy play,” it reads.

Instead of treating Hollow Knight like a tutorial for Silksong, this argument claims some players are treating the new game like a continuation of the old one instead of recognizing the clear yet subtle differences, including a diagonal downward attack that complicates combat and platforming, especially for people used to the first game’s more straightforward up/down pogo-ing on top of enemies. Though there are Crests players can find in Silksong even early on to help make the game easier, it seems clear Team Cherry also made a point of not greasing the wheels with combat as much as it did with Hollow Knight.

Enemies deal more damage, take longer to kill, and some of the longer run-backs after you die to a boss can be lowkey soul crushing. Here’s a 30-second clip of a player going back to the Act 1 boss after dying, a trek which includes more than one non-trivial platforming section. Whether players ultimately enjoy it or not, the double damage many enemies do compared to Hollow Knight is already the biggest meme coming out of Silksong‘s launch. “The reason it took so long to come out: Team cherry was trying to beat the game before they released it,” one fan joked.

Silksong is too hard vs. Silksong is bad

The post-launch conversation around the Hollow Knight sequel has generally followed this arc, forking along to parallel tracks over the weekend. First: “Yay, it’s out!” Second: “Check out cool thing X.” Third: “Boss fight Y was incredible” or “Help, I can’t stop dying.” And finally: “This game is too hard and it’s the best” or “This game is too hard and it sucks.” We’re at the point where an initial backlash to how much more punishing Silksong is has been followed by a backlash to the backlash. Much of it essentially boils down to: okay, maybe Silksong is much harder but that doesn’t make it worse than Hollow Knight.

My guess is that there are two things going on here. The first is that Silksong is reaching a much wider audience at launch than Hollow Knight ever did, and I would guess many of those players are coming to it from non-Souls-inspired backgrounds. They are here for the neat story, excellent art, and top-notch Metroidvania exploration, not necessarily the “git gud” grind that comes with hitting what seems like an insurmountable challenge you that you persevere through, knowing eventually, whether hours later or days later, you will overcome it.

Team Cherry

The second is that so much is riding on Silksong, following years of hype and secrecy, that everyone is extra touchy about the possibility it could be worse than Hollow Knight. We’ve all been there. You go to see a movie you were really excited for. It washes over you in haze. There were parts you loved. You talk about them outside the theater with friends. Than days go by, weeks, years even, and you eventually admit it wasn’t as good as you hoped. Disappointment sucks! Do I think most people are actually disappointed with Silksong? Not at all. But I think any naysaying this early on in the “honeymoon period” of a new indie darling’s release can feel like an attack.

TL;DR: the internet is currently designed to make negativity go viral, which elicits defensive hyperbole in response.

What’s clear is that there’s a not-insignificant number of people already feeling burnt out on Silksong or bouncing off of it entirely because of its less forgiving design. “I beat Hollow Knight twice through (Radiance), I love the game and its world and its vibes and everything you mentioned, and I’m currently falling out of love with a sequel I desperately WANT to enjoy, due to a difficulty curve that feels completely out of sync with Hollow Knight’s,” wrote one player on the subreddit. “I’m handling the difficulty fine, but it’s just exhausting,” wrote another. “I think Silksong is beautiful and a masterpiece, but the two mask damage is tiring. Most people WILL have a skill issue, even if they’re managing, so rather than the game be fully enjoyable like Hollow Knight, it will create exhaustion which is not fun.”

Silksong doesn’t have difficulty options or any other way to mitigate its challenge outside of in-game remedies like finding certain upgrades and Crests as early as possible. We’ll see if that ultimately holds it back from the same level of fawning adoration that its predecessor achieved, or if Team Cherry decides to address the skill gap in a post-launch update. Purists will be able to say they were there on day-one with their double-damage victories intact to prove it, but at least that way everyone else can discover the rest of the special game Team Cherry spent seven years making.

Hollow Knight: Silksong’s early mods sand off its more annoying edges, including double damage and distant spawns

Shhhhh. If we’re quiet, we might be able to avoid discourse with this one. If you’ve spent your weekend playing Hollow Knight: Silksong and found that the likes of enemies inflicting double damage and spawns being miles away put a dampner on the fun, mods can help.

I know, I know, these are videogames and we must take their difficulty with the utmost seriousness. How else are any of us supposed to learn important life lessons, like ‘press button dodge at this point’, unless we go through hours of frustration trying to beat one boss (or look such info up)? As such, I stress that these mods, like all mods, are entirely optional. No need to shout at people for using them. Save your voice for singing love ballads to Hornet during breaks in the action.

Right, now I’ve addressed the very powerful elephant in the room, let’s take a gander at Skong’s Nexus Mods page, which has filled out nicely now the metroidvania’s got a weekend under its belt. Silksong’s most endorsed mod thus far is one by Baiker that stops enemies and “normal bosses” from dishing out double damage, while leaving hazards free to keep on punishing you. Don’t look at the comments on it, if you’ve not got your internet argument observation popcorn handy.

Also up there in both the download and endorsement rankings is a mod from XiaoHaiNB, which adds health bars and damage numbers to baddies. Probably my favourites so far are the death counters. You’ve got a choice of two from modders Rexxah and NordboDev, and they’ll just sit there on your HUD, reminding you how many times your abilities have proven to be a bit too hollow shite.

Going back to the easening up, there’s ‘Stakes of Marika – Rebirth Anywhere’ from modder Kassent. As you might expect, this one takes a bit of inspiration from FromSoft’s Ancient Hoop by ensuring that “when you die in a scene, you will respawn at the scene entrance instead of at a bench miles away”. It also lets you set custom respawn points, which is cool.

For those annoyed by Silksong’s insistence on not being able to check where you are on the map at a glance, there’s ‘Always Have Compass Effect’ by Synthlight, which does what it says on the tin. The same modder’s stepped in with a mod that makes delivery items less fragile than a shipment of unpacked wine glasses precariously balanced to form a 20 foot tall tower and positioned next to some partially lit fireworks.

The final mod that’s caught my eye so far is this one for lore enthusiasts, which ensures you only have to kill a single enemy to be able to read their species’ journal entry.

Make sure to check the requirements of each of these if you fancy giving them a go, as most require the likes of BepInEx and MelonLoader to get up and running.

Early Windows 11 25H2 benchmarks confirm the update provides no performance improvements over 24H2

Windows 11 25H2 is not out yet, but that hasn’t stopped media outlets from benchmarking the upcoming Windows 11 version. Phoronix tested Windows 11 25H2 against Canonical’s upcoming Ubuntu 25.10, Ubuntu 24.0.3 LTS, and Windows 11 24H2 in a head-to-head benchmarking battle to see if 25H2 delivers any new performance improvements. Sadly, though, Phoronix’s testing revealed that 25H2 was unable to outperform 24H2, even technically losing to its predecessor in many tests.

The four operating systems were tested using a Ryzen 9 9950X paired with 32GB of DDR5 memory. Phoronix benchmarked a variety of applications (41 benchmarks in total), including LuxCoreRender, Embree, Intel Open Image Denoise, OSPRay, and IndigoBench.

If you are familiar with previous Phoronix Windows vs Linux testing, it should come as no surprise that Ubuntu came out on top. Across Phoronix’s 41 benchmark geomean, both versions of Ubuntu managed to outperform Windows 11 25H2 by around 15% respectively. Looking at the Windows operating systems exclusively, 25H2 provided precisely 0% more performance compared to 24H2 across Phoronix’s entire benchmarking suite, on average.

Phoronix’s individual numbers for each benchmark further elaborate on 25H2’s underwhelming performance behavior. Many of the individual benchmarks show 25H2 and 24H2 competing for third and fourth place, with 24H2 trading blows with 25H2. For example, in LuxCoreRender, Windows 11 24H2 was 2% more performant than 25H2. But in ASTC Encoder 5.0, 25H2 was almost 2% faster than 24H2.

Windows 11 25H2’s underwhelming benchmarking performance is not surprising to see. Microsoft’s upcoming version of Windows 11 is based on the same servicing branch as 24H2, meaning that both versions are largely identical under the hood. In fact, Windows 11 24H2 already has many of 25H2’s features incorporated in a disabled state. 25H2 merely turns these disabled features on and guarantees their availability, while 24H2 users will have to wait for these features to be turned on incrementally over time. This is a far cry from 24H2, which was a major overhaul over 23H2, including major parts of the OS being rewritten in Rust.

As a result, 25H2 is also one of the smallest “major” updates Microsoft has created for Windows 11 thus far. 25H2 includes just a handful of new features, while also removing some existing features, such as PowerShell 2.0 and the Windows Management Instrumentation command-line. 25H2 will also be delivered as an enablement package, requiring just one restart to update from 24H2 to 25H2 (just like a standard cumulative update).
